Time to welcome Black Loops back once again for his third release on Freerange. Riccardo continues to impress with a consistent and evolving output on labels such as Shall Not Fade, Atteral, Gallery and Madhouse, his warm, bouncing beats and basslines working their magic in a broad cross-section of DJ’s sets the last decade or so.

Here on These Changes he teams up with young London producer and vocalist Cody Currie, known for his releases on Classic, Razor n Tape and Toy Tonics. These Changes is an uptempo, shuffling house track with a deep, rolling mood which doffs the cap to classic NYC sounds but with a distinct contemporary spin.

The People treads a similar path with a repeating vocal hook and snipped and chopped jazz fusion sample adding the ear candy whilst punchy beats and echoing synths keep the floor bouncing. Think Charles Webster meets Joshua Iz on Guidance in the late 90’s and you’ll get the idea.

Closing out this sublime release we have Driver which puts all the focus on a simple, compelling bassline pushing the groove along and creating a deep, emotive late night mood to move to.

Having seen the first two releases on his self-run Unison Wax label win plaudits from critics and contemporaries alike, Berlin's Diego Krause starts 2015 with a fresh EP of deep and textured house music.
A1 opens the EP in style, its deep sunken bassline and clamouring percussion underpinning intoxicatingly woozy chords and a soulful vocal sample. Demonstrating Diego's ability to pen strong groove-led house tracks, it exemplifies the headsdown vibes that we've come to expect from him.
The breaks-orientated A2 offers up a new dimension to Krause's production skills. Here, sharp drum breaks punch out a funk-tipped rhythm accompanied by a sweetened melody.
If A2 reveals Krause's hip-hop roots, then B1 evokes the producer's schooling in New York and New Jersey deep house. A chopped up vocal samples loops over terse drums, a warm sub-bass and a Fender Rhodes sounding chord hook. The emergence of a nebulous piano refrain completes the package, making for a track that is both soulful and playful.
B2 closes the EP in style. Tumbling hi-hats and reverb-licked bass patterns are joined by a wistful melody that finds Krause exploring the emotive juxtaposition between up-tempo and down-tempo sounds. The result is a subterranean house jam that will fan the white-hot embers of a 6am dance- floor.
With 2014 having seen the Berliner tipped as a big name in the making, Unison Wax 03 offers up four tracks set to add to that momentum propelling Diego Krause further onwards and upwards.

Pa’volar is a new label from Barcelona which aims to act as a collaborative platform for creative minds and positive souls.

The label kicks off its catalog presenting the debut release of label’s head Seb under his alias Neoser.

Open Senses EP is a versatile record with four original tracks full of eclectic sounds blended with house, breaks and downtempo beats, which makes it suitable for party and chill situations.

Must Be On Wax returns with his fourth reference with house sounds for all tastes. This time with Lemin, Pau Roca, John Heaven, Bwi-Bwi and the French duo Veronique Samsung.

Ghetto Supastar is a song by American rapper Pras, but is also the name of this new 12" from 207737 on the Detroit Techno Records label. It embodies a new sound coming from the celebrated Motor City that draws on everything which went before and adds new perspective, emotion and sound designs. 'Stella' is a lithe and soulful cut with minimal drums and a cosmic atmosphere, while 'Tribal Dance' brings brighter chords and more playful patterns over raw-ass drums. There is plenty of Omar-S's rough hewn drum work in 'Apply Pressure' and elsewhere '8 Mile Boogie' brings a Mediterranean Balearic vibe to the D in superb fashion. An intriguing EP for sure.

After a string of seminal club 12”s over the course of two decades, and in the midst of two successful solo careers, MMM finally release their first album. Erik Wiegand is the critically- acclaimed, PAN-affiliated Errorsmith and creator of Native Instrument’s Razor synth; Michael Fiedler is Berghain resident DJ Fiedel, as well as label head, producer, and co-founder of the legendary Wax Treatment party. While, as Messe der Meister von Morgen, the Berlin-based duo are known and beloved as a rave act providing the utmost energy, On the Edge shows their more tender side with the depth and emotional complexity befitting the sustained passion for and experience in music the project shares.

Although the market rewards regular and frequent releases, MMM have always chosen quality over quantity, taking time to achieve this and releasing when they have something they’re proud of. Self-releasing from day one – and partnering with Hard Wax for distribution – their independence has meant total artistic freedom. And even with their previous zero promo approach, their two ‘hits’ speak for themselves: 1997’s “Donna” and 2010’s “Nous Sommes MMM” (“Donna” was revealed to be the biggest-selling record in the history of Glasgow’s crucial Rubadub record store). But even though they’re known for rave-infused classics, they refuse to be pigeonholed.

In fact, the power of On the Edge is drawn from a near-meditative tension, rather than the boisterous party vibes of before – hence the title. Decades of engagement with dance music culture are filtered, refined, and synthesized, crafting a pure and individual sound. While you can clearly hear elements of genres such as techno, dub, UK bass, and gqom, it fits into none of those. If simplicity was a club weapon before, now it’s finely calibrated and downright subtle. Most tracks are spacious in their reduction – “On the Edge” and “So Nigh” contain only four elements each. Yet a lot, maybe more than before, is communicated. The accessibility of the arrangements invites everybody, but those in the know will appreciate the sophistication and inventiveness.

While not a ‘pandemic’ record per se, the timing fits. A world that’s exponentially more complex requires more sensitivity, and On The Edge reflects this. Loaded with thoughtful poignancy – they would even call it sadness – but somehow uplifting and empowering in its emotion, On the Edge is a new dimension not just for MMM but also for dance music itself.

For the 18th release on her stand out label, Anthea invites budding Italian producer, Odracir, to the fold. Balancing his time between extensive studio sessions, and heading up his label Clut Communication; which in its short life is already turning heads, it’s no surprise he has solidified himself amongst the Partisan family.

Made in Sicily, and created for the dancefloor the “Atmos” EP fully embraces the Partisan high definition charm; boasting three bulky cuts, structured around emphatic drums, transcending melodies, and squelchy acid lines.

Odracir's cosmic and functional effect makes for an irresistible EP.

Hot on the heels of 2021's stellar release of The French Connection's "Speechless" LP, Balance head honcho and legendary producer and DJ Chez Damier teams up again with Camille and Adeen Records for another trip around the the world with Lima, Peru's Surco's Groove, "The Lima Project." This beautiful release titled "What Is Love?" delivers hard hitting versions of the track in the original, dub, instrumental, and an acapella with stellar remixes from Snad and German producer Damien Rausch. Be it France or Peru, Balance and Adeen knows how to take you on a musical journey. We can't wait to see where they go next!

For the best part of 10 years, For Those That Knoe has maintained its position as a platform for obscure and under-represented artists of recent past, (re)introducing their music to the world in the form of a stories told in chapters and specially crafted albums.

Taking a slightly different tack, For Those That Knoe is looking to the present rather than back in time with a first LP outing for Slovenian producer Vid Vai.

Vid Papez has had a succession of quality EPs under his belt, originally classically trained on violin, lute and guitar, his sound has developed into a lush mix of catchy breakbeat rhythms, precise intelligent percussion and other-worldly melodies and sound scapes.

In constructing Laminar Flow, Vid has taken inspiration from fluid dynamics and coupled it with early influences in the form of UK bleep, IDM and breakbeat sounds. The result is a timeless piece of liquid-smooth sonic art that is strongly relevant in 2022 whilst also giving a gentle nod to the pioneers of the deeper end of the rave scene.

No Fuss is back adding another quality lineup for their 8th vinyl sampler. A1 sees Swirl People's "We Are". The original was was released over 20 years ago on the classic West Coast label Seasons Recordings. Saison offer a driving bumpy deep house interpretation that is bound lift you up out of your trousers and hit the dance floor with both hands in the air. A2 is no other than man of the moment Felipe Gordon. FG provides a soundscape to your chilled summer by the ocean with a stripped back jazzy version of Saison's "Man of Soul" which we have included on B1. To round things off we bring in one of our favourite new comers Clive From Accounts on remix duties for Saison's "Want You". If you like your music all analog, synthy, emotive, and full of audits this is one for you and your accountant's cart. You may even be able to write it off on your taxes.

After a sold out 20 Anniversary 3XLP, Turntables on the Hudson returns with a diverse 3 X vinyl set that carries the Inside the Dance series (previously on WONDERWHEEL Recordings) to all new releases made between the international friends & family between 2020 - 2022. It was a call to action for inspiration, creation, motivation & moving your body in response to the depressing times of initial lockdown & continued music gathering closures during the pandemic. What we did instead was invested in music, art, collaborations, videos, remixes hoping to keep the spirits alive & inspiration high for each other. It’s now Spring of 2022 & we’re happy we did it all. Here’s the fruits of those seeds planted. Songs from artists across the sound spectrum from Morocco, Italy, USA, Spain, Argentina, Peru, UK, Montenegro, France, Belgium, Turkey, Dominican Republic, Niger & more. LOCUS welcome You&Me boss Josh Baker this April as he delivers his ‘Slippers All Summer’ EP.

A fast-rising DJ, producer, and label owner quickly becoming a favourite of many across the UK and beyond, Manchester’s Josh Baker continues developing and evolving as one of the scene’s most promising new names. Having welcomed artists such as Apollonia, Traumer, Gene On Earth, and FUSE boss Enzo Siragusa to his own events, alongside the launch of the highly acclaimed Hide & Seek Festival, late April sees the emerging talent add to releases via Constant Sound sub-label ‘Aesthetic’, Sukhumvit and his own You&Me imprint with a debut outing on LOCUS as he delivers his four-track ‘Slippers All Summer’ EP.

A resonant cut fuelled by sweeping synths and rolling, organic percussion, title track ‘Slippers All Summer’ opens proceedings in fine fashion as Baker fuses rich melodies with skittering leads, whilst the driving ‘Fascinating’ combines sci-fi electronics with deep chords and warped vocal interjections. On the B-Side, slinking drums, icy hats, and rubbery stabs merge to form the slick ‘Jaffa’, before closing things out via the paired back, dubby aesthetics of the hazy ‘More Than Micro’.

Kerri 'Kaos' Chandler dropping some neat early 90's House pressure on the mighty Strictly Rhythm under his KCYC pseudonym. That's right, more and more gems mined deep outta the SR archives! 'I'm Not Dreaming / Side By Side' both serve up that typical, cherished KC vibe, all chunky swinging drums and deep basslines, and not forgetting those chords, with Chevelle's vox taking us into the garage stratosphere. The b-side is a more introspective affair, but nonetheless pure dancefloor fire. You cannot put a foot wrong with Kerri during this period, this one ticks all the boxes and has been given some tasty 2019 remastering treatment and repressed onto a high quality, weighty 12" for all you record lovers out there, this one will keep them moving in the mix. Perfect NYC/NJ House sounds here, untouched and represented in it's original 1993 form with original Strictly label artwork, snoozing not permitted!

DJ-Kicks starts off its 25th year with a selector who’s been doing just that for even longer than we’ve been going. A true giant of the underground dance world, we proudly present the original ‘Jazz Potato’ himself: Mr. Scruff!

The next remix installment from Psychemagik’s LP, “I Feel How This Night Should Look”, comes from longtime mates and sonic colleagues, Warehouse Preservation Society, and esteemed dancefloor cornerstone, Bushwacka.

W.P.S., the mutant duo from Los Angeles, have cropped up remixes and originals with reckless abandon these past years, and here, transform the Psychemagik source material into a breakbeat-infused act of nuclear fission, striking out the gate with heavy rhythms that meltdown into a steady hypnotic groove, all accompanied by dubbed vocal stabs and poignant arpeggios.

Bushwacka's remix of Valley Of Paradise has echoes of some of his earlier signature works. Centered breaks and floating pads guide through his cosmic rendition, whilst still retaining a strong melodic anchor from the original track, and glued together with a thick bouncing bassline - a trip for sure!

Forever pushing musical boundaries whilst producing a distinctive and evolving sound, SHADED brings his Southern California roots to Hot Creations this May with Mad Stacks. No stranger to the label following his High. Alive. And Dirty. EP, Demuir is onboard to deliver a solid remix.

Mentored and inspired by Ali ‘Dubfire’ Shirazinia, SHADED first appeared as part of the duo SHDWPLAY, who released a string of successful releases on SCI+TEC. He ventured down the solo path with releases on Tiga’s Turbo imprint, including the label’s best-selling release and Mixmag’s ‘Tune of the Month’. He’s also a key associate with Oliver Huntemann’s Senso: appearing on the 5th birthday release. SHADED is now working to finalise a new two-hour live Audio Visual show tailored to his style and vision.

Canadian native Demuir adds another dimension to the original, adding a synth loop to create a funky, new melody. With releases already on labels like I'm A House Gangster and MadTech, Demuir’s incredible career ascent shows no signs of slowing down for 2020 and beyond, with releases and remixes on Pets, Sola, Circus, Do Not Sleep and Hot Creations.

Nu Groove was one of the pioneering house music labels to come out of New York. Originally active between 1988 and 1992, its mark on the scene was to be felt for years to come. The cult label has been lovingly cared for by Defected since 2017, when the label group acquired the catalogue and re-packaged it for a digital world. Now Nu Groove will release new productions for the first time in almost three decades, debuting with a special 12” package from NYC pioneer Jovonn and Swiss maestro Deetron. With Jovonn coming in on the A-Side with a pair of flawlessly executed cuts, from the headsy funk of ‘Random’ with its playful synths and jazz-infused horns, to the shift in energy for something wavier and almost otherworldly in ‘Get Over It’ (Soulfrican Soul Bass Dub Mix), his production mastery is that of a true house legend. On the flip, Deetron opens with the piano-laden, sparkling groove of ‘Dr. Melonball’ before closing out the EP with ‘V-NRG’, a blissed-out club cut with melodic keys and a powerful bassline that captures the energy of a steamy dancefloor. Transporting its listeners to the roots of New York City house, this EP signals exciting things to come from a revived Nu Groove records.

Absolutely killer Mood II Swing from 1996...

As the sweary, confrontational title suggests, this four-tracker from Detroit hero Omar-S is like a musical expansion pack for his much-discussed recent album, F*ck Resident Advisor. The no-nonsense Detroiter starts in fine fashion with 'Gonna Love You', a jaunty, piano-sporting peak-time loop jam crafted from old school vocal samples and snippets from a killer disco record, before reaching for cosmic synth sounds, lilting melodies and a melancholic mood on the starry deep house jam 'Bread Over Bed'. He subtly doffs a cap to Dance Mania style ghetto-house on the quirky, club-ready cheekiness of 'Shut Up', before smothering a classic house groove with heady hand percussion and snaking synth lines on dense and energetic closing cut 'Sloppy Joe'.

Spin Fidelity returns home to Magnonic Signals with an outstanding solo EP, Gravitational Lensing…

‘Harbour Lights’ (+) opens the EP and instantly grabs you with its elastic bass and soaring synths. Jam packed with the Spin Fidelity signature sound, driving electro and Martian melodies.

Next up is ‘Change Is Gonna Come’ (++) A laid back 4/4 groove that builds and develops into a full on acidic symphony which is sure to please the 303 lovers.

On the flip ‘Fall’ (-) is a descent into emotional robotic funk. Hypnotic and beautiful in equal measures, definitely a track to get lost in!

Last but not least we have the epic ‘Midnight Creep’ (- -) The stuff of dreams or nightmares? Dark and light? The Midnight Creep is lurking. Haunting electro.

YUNG DUMB is pleased to welcome the return of Westcoast Goddess for the label's first release of 2022. 'Elfin Glamour' is a delicate balance of feel-good melancholia, as the Berlin-based synth wiz comes forward with innovative sample flips over intricate melodies. The EP includes 'Deep Trance City' and 'Girl Who Dreamed Tomorrow', two unearthed DAT recordings from 2002, bringing new life to 20 year old songs.

As the third outlook on the soon to be released second Keinemusik album, this is "Confusion feat. Ali Love". Slightly grainy beat, tender piano-harmonies and on top: Love's croon - the sentiment of this tune is destined to score many of the last sunsets, this season has to offer. "Confusion" will be out August 27, followed up by the album in October.

Once in a blue moon a singer comes along that stops you in your tracks, Lady Blackbird is one such talent. Dubbed by Gilles Peterson “the Grace Jones of jazz”, her album Black Acid Soul dropped in September 2021 to glowing reviews across the board from the likes of The Guardian and New York Times.

One of the standout tracks ‘Lost and Looking’ - a cover of Sam Cooke’s sparsely arranged original, where Lady Blackbird builds the track with her haunting vocal and sparkling piano notes performed by Deron Johnson, gets the rework treatment from none other than Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy.

Released via Ross Allen, and long-time collaborator Andy Thompson’s Foundation Music, the Classic Album Sunday’s originator, co-founder of the Lucky Cloud System parties and David Mancuso protégé, turns in her ‘Cosmodelica Remix’ muscling up the track for the dancefloor, with a demon bassline, funk fuelled bass guitar, and cosmic acid lines. There’s also a dub for those who prefer a more stripped down but equally pumping affair.

Quantasoma is inspired by The Drowned World by J.G. Ballard. Set in a future where the ice caps have melted and the rising oceans have submerged so much of the inhabited world. A new nature has formed here, and cities have become primeval swamps. Humans are now in rapid decline as giant lizards, dragon flies and insects thrive.

The music on this record looks to describe this new world, and unlike the book where the story is told from a human perspective, the point of view here is shifted to the eyes of nature. What for humans is a dystopian future, for the natural world it is an insignificant change. Emotionless and detached, these processes carry on regardless of what is happening, like photosynthesis in the quantasomes.

This release comes in a full-colour artwork by Berlin-based artist Olya Bazilevich with the vinyl on a limited run of 150 copies. e digital release is fitted with a bonus track.

Production heroes Moodymann and Kenny Dope revisit one of electronic music’s foundation records, Rude Movements by SunPalace, with brand new remixes issued on BBE Music’s vinyl-only offshoot imprint ALIM.

Presented on strictly limited 7” vinyl, Moodymann and Kenny Dope pay tribute to a New York Loft classic first made famous by David Mancuso, which strongly influenced both artists early in their careers, as well as helping to shape the early House Music movement in the hands of Larry Levan, Nicky Siano, Frankie Knuckles and Danny Krivit among many others.

Two of the modern electronic scene’s most consistent innovators and elevators, Moodymann and Kenny Dope were selected by SunPalace producer Mike Collins himself to rework the track. Sadly, Mike passed away in late 2018 before either version was completed, but as a fan of both artists, we’re sure Mike would have been excited by both of these loving and reverent revisions to his iconic work.

Recorded in 1981s at Mike’s home studio in London, ‘Rude Movements’ was originally released as the B-Side to a track called ‘Winning’. A true Brit-funk oddity, the track’s improvised nature and lack of vocal hooks initially consigned it to obscurity, until its pristine sonics and irrepressible groove caught the ear of David Mancuso and he presented it at his already influential Loft Party.

Moodymann’s remix retains the ‘jammed’ feel of Rude Movements, introducing stellar flute, sax and piano solos over the groove, while remaining utterly faithful to the original vibe.

Kenny Dope’s ‘Dancefloor Powder’ version adds a vintage Afro-Latin drum break into the mix, while showcasing the original’s epic synth solo.

Hell Yeah's next vinyl EP is a first solo release since 2012 from The Vendetta Suite aka Belfast's Gary Irwin.
