STL machine groove strikes back “blundar” imprint: 180g 12” EP, dub and house rooted cuts, and the expected locked surprise.

This compilation sees the coming together of independent music makers from across the globe to meet in one place and gather as a single entity. That simmering hub of warmth and affection is known as Motor Jazz - a place for artists to congregate and share their devotion for songs that are infused with rhythms created by anodic wires, buttons and other digital paraphernalia. That's electronic music to you and me, and in this case electronic music with swing, a sense of freedom and improvisation that some might call 'Jazz'.

The album opens with the ominous drone of the Mega Corp., sounding like one of the parties responsible for 2020's almost post-apocalyptic feel. It's perhaps an unlikely opener for a what's a positive and optimistic collection courtesy of young musicians from across the globe, but we all need to be reminded of who's in charge sometimes, and Dutch producer Jon Sewi does just that!

The mood soon lightens though, with the soulful strings and enticing keys of Gladdics by the mysterious Black Soyls, before well established German musical artisan Renegades of Jazz brings the family in for It's Tea Time with ticking clocks, warm tea pots and slices of cake, whilst being serenaded by a very vintage sounding horn section.

Serafin Plum almost steer us into drum & bass territory with their off-the-wall percussive nugget Jagged, whilst keeping a calming hand on the shoulder (as all good parents should) with soothing keys, before it's playtime once again.

There's nothing conventional about the Motor Jazz family though, and after tea time and play time, it's time to rave! In Greek mythology, The Maenads were female followers of Dionysus; their name literally translating as "the raving ones". Often they were portrayed as being inspired by the god into a state of ecstasy through a combination of dancing and intoxication, during which time they would dress in fawn skins and carry a thyrsus - a long stick wrapped in ivy or vine leaves and tipped with a pine cone. With a sound ranging between Jazz, Techno, Rave and Breaks their track, Opera, delivers a psyche and Jazz influenced piece with colliding styles, busy drums and rich melodies.

Heading over to Dublin, Ireland, and multi-talented producer, musician and DJ, Donal Sharpson (aka Double Screen) makes his presence known with grandiose brass preempting a four-to-the-floor wood block frenzy in the shape of Sheikah, complete with enthusiastic whoops and a persuasive bassline. Meanwhile, somewhere below the Irish Sea, aquatic artiste Stubby Dials delivers the bass worrying Put It On Ice the only way he knows how - living in a submarine, he emerges from time to time to leave his master tapes on the beach with a note saying "Release this!" before submerging, never been seen again.

Back in the Netherlands, Bram van der Hoeven, otherwise known as Lucinate, is an electronic Jazz producer par excellence. His effortless balance of organic musical roots like Fusion, Bossa Nova and Soul, into the world of modern beat orientated sounds is something to behold, and with The Cards he offsets life-affirming keys with rolling drums reminiscent of some of the seminal liquid Drum & Bass he grew up with.

As the global Motor Jazz family expands, we head to Canada, where the wonderfully monikered Woodpecking Mantis brings a little acid to the party with his squelchy, stuttering and brilliantly entitled Waving At A Melting Square Tooth Of A Specific Rabbit……. We're guessing they like acid a lot in Canada.

We're going down under to Newcastle, Australia next, where things take a more serene turn. Wrenasmir, known to his parents as Craig Smith, used to be a baroque pipe organist before he discovered samplers and synthesizers. Now he makes imaginary soundtracks at his studio for the twilight beachside city that lives in his head - full of vinyl and pixels and bittersweet memories. The gorgeous Lucempight is exactly that.

Keeping things low key and tranquil, Poets And Rockets, the latest offering from Jay Solomon is a horn driven slice of futuristic dub that makes way for The Motion Orchestra's majestic Midnight Sun, complete with Alexander Bednasch on double-bass, Mark Matthes on violins, Andy Sells on drums and David Hanke on electronics and production. Though influenced heavily by neo-classical and jazz sensibilities they occupy a musical space that sits in neither sphere, with a compositional style that deftly fuses the orchestral and electronic worlds. The full Motion Orchestra album, All One, will be released later this year on Bathurst.

Sixteen year old, self taught producer and multi-instrumentalist Teis Ortved is something of a prodigy. The Copenhagen based wunderkind has so far self-released two EPs, and if What, his offering here, is anything to go by, he's going to be making big waves across the eclectic music spectrum for years to come.

If Teis is the new kid on the block then what better way to round off this compilation that with its patriarchal figure. Funki Porcini has over a quarter of a century of recordings in his back catalogue, and has spent fifteen of those years dedicated to the independent UK behemoth that is Ninja Tune records. The Last Recording From Earth is exclusive to this album and is in many ways the perfect closing song. Perhaps more concept art than traditional piece of music, the idea behind it is that an alien archeologist has found this recording tens of thousands of years after humans have disappeared into the sand…. You never know, it might just happen, and hopefully Them To Us will take on a whole new meaning.

In every aspect of her career, Mieko has refused to be restrained or placed in a box artistically, and new record 'I Bloom' sees a continuation of that ethos!

With a career that has seen her as an acclaimed Japanese
electronic artist and producer, a trailblazing female drum’n’bass
DJ (signed to Haruomi Hosono’s personal label), a collaborator with the likes of MC RIZ (Riz Ahmed) and Mick Karn (JAPAN), and having her own residency at the Southbank, it’s safe to say that Mieko Shimizu is sui generis.

Amalgamating haunting melodies with challenging modular-synth-laden landscapes, the record has equal moments of sparsely instrumented beauty and musical entropy, as layers and rhythms clash and collide in polyphony.

Gafacci is well known for notable artist collaborations, eclectic edits and his Asokpor productions. On this new four track EP, he steps out of familiar soundscapes, driven by his steady desire to ex-plore a more melodic side of his own production style. This led him to experimenting with the ,Lo-Fi' and infuse it with afrobeats as well as diverse tropical sounds.
Over the past three years, the Accra based producer, DJ and songwriter Gafacci had been circulating around the term ,Low Fidelity' and he dedicates this album to all those across the globe who can relate and support the music.
The Title ,TASH BNM', meaning ,Tash bought new music' is inspired by the notifications of a music connoisseur's weekly purchases on bandcamp.

Noteworthy are also the featured artists, from multi instrumentalist Nii Quaye to Chefbanku, singer Amaarae, Ghana Music's OG Kyekyeku and rappers Tinuke & Lazee, each guest complements to this timeless piece of music in their own unique way.

Decca Records announces the release of the soundtrack to the Amazon Original Series ‘Modern Love’, featuring tracks from Regina Spektor, electronic music duo Goldfrapp, Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes and Ivor Novello-nominated singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot.

The series features an ensemble cast including Tina Fey, Anne Hathaway, Catherine Keener, Cristin Milioti, Dev Patel, Andrew Scott & John Slattery.

The return of the EXTERESTRIAL TIME TRAVELERS Aux88, has returned with an all new double LP, Counterparts. Unforgettable bass lines and vocals that make everyone run to the dance floor and ascend to the DJ booth for confirmation of, "who is this?" Side A - starts with the track "INTEL."

The string work and Kraftwerkian tone is evident with this gem. Aux88 takes it even further with a message to the electro haters, "You Don't Want None of This! Side B - "Moon Walker" simply put...that Bass Line...wow! As only Aux88 and a few others can do it ... Detroit styled Parliament Funkadelic funky. Side C - gives homage to the Detroit jitters with the track "Pothole Paradise."

It's fast funky and not for messing around. As Mike Banks said in the Aux88 documentary interview, "when DJ's drop Aux88 shit, it's time to dance and shake that ass!" Pothole Paradise is exactly that type of track....Detroit Proud. The culmination of all original 4 members returning for a new flight from the Aux quadrant to invade the world. The Double LP gives you electro/techno funk from Detroit Legends Blak Tony, K-1, Posatronix & Tom Tom.

Santiago Niño is an accomplished eclectic & conceptual electronic musician originally from Bogota Columbia, but based in Buenos Aires, with a deep discography of releases across a range of genres. The Techgnosis EP follows his debut Hermetics track 'Collider' as which impressed on it's release on R&S founder's RV Trax imprint in early 2018. Created in a low point following the sale of his professional studio, with the humble means of a laptop, mixer and set of basic monitors the realisation of this music reaffirmed Santiago's self belief that his talent extended beyond his need for gear.

This EP follows in the same footsteps as 'Collider'; mesmeric, pulsing techno with a rich musicality. Equally important to Santiago is his love of the visual arts: "This project has a really important connection with the audiovisual work, which i want to keep up, because i love cinema, i love the audiovisual arts, the abstract, experimental and poetic side of it, and thats why i always want to give that cinematic feel to my music.
Hand picked by Renaat Vandepapeliere to step up from the RV Trax series to a full R&S EP this is just the start for the Hermetics project.

Italo-disco inspired house music, IN MY DREAMS is the latest single from New York/Moscow duo IPF aka INTERNETPOWERLIFTINGFEDERATION. A warm, galloping bass line fuses with razor-sharp synth stabs, creamy pads and late-80’s house drums. A dual-vocal exchange explores self-delusion, obsession and a single-sided relationship between girl and the boy who lives in her head. Melancholic yet pop-y, IN MY DREAMS wouldn’t be out of place in club run by Erasure, Depeche Mode or Human League at their most soulful and dancefloor-ready. In the spirit of classic 80’s dance music traditions, the original mix gets three additional reworks: a classic Electro version, a “big room” friendly HI-NRG version and stripped down version. This is the first release from New York city based label Daddy Issues, limited pressing 150 copies only.

There are still so many treasures to be discovered out there, but once you find a gem like this you can definitely put the research on hold for a little while and give it a deep listen. Recorded at Fono Roma in 1971, Eroina is a series of haunting improvisations - each one inspired by the effects of a different drug - made of whirling electronic glitches, skronky horns, pounded piano, funky drums and weird tape experiments delivering the best drone/spaced/drugged out free jazz performed by the legendary ensemble of Ennio Morricone, Mario Bertoncini, Egisto Macchi, Battisti D'Amario, Franco Evangelisti and Walter Bianchi. A timeless masterpiece.

Tempo Dischi's second release is one of electronic music’s seminal albums; 1798 Italian space disco album: Automat by Automat.

A year after the release of Oxygène by Jean Michel Jarre, a milestone for electronic music, “Automat" was released in Italy, a timeless record that has influenced the years to come. Released in 1978 by EMI Italia, the album has been produced by two veteran italian songwriters and composers, Romano Musumarra and Claudio Gizzi after meeting Mario Maggi, one of the major innovators in the manufacturing of electronic instruments in Italy. Maggi invented the first programmable monophonic synthesizer ever made: the MCS70. Its sounds have been the basis for the production of the whole Automat album. That synth was used only for this record and remained a prototype, leaving a halo of mystery behind this record.

The album moves in the furrows of an atypical space disco, with abstract classical arias alternating with more sustained rhythms, which combine electronic experiments, progressive psychedelic journeys with cinematic themes. The A Side, composed by Gizzi is an electronic disco-tinged suite divided into three parts (The Rise, The Advance, The Genius). Ater a brief spatial intro, the insistent arpeggio expands into a soundtrack theme with a sumptuous melody, which slowly fades away to make room for a progressive psychedelic journey. The B Side, composed by Musumarra, is made by three tracks, including ‘Droid‘, one of the most representative songs of the electronic music of the early eighties. A magic sequence between the bassline, the electro drums, and the spatial disco theme with a futuristic and cinematic mood. This is a record that has influenced the music of our days and after 40 years may still sound contemporary.

Zero Hero / Lies / Jelousy / Meritocracy

“The combined forces of Frederik Valentin & Loke Rahbek first found a way into the world in 2017 with the album 'Buy Corals Online'. Together they now present 'Elephant', an eight-track album that composes an inquisitive space with it's parts.

The economy of movement across Rahbek and Valentin's new collaborative album makes for a gentle transmission of its abstract intimacies. This presence, which we caught glimpses of on their previous work 'Buy Corals Online', is shaped by the delicate interplay between acoustic instrumentation and synthetically rendered sounds. Hauntingly melodic at times, the album feels like a suite of uncanny lullabies that grant access to realities that can only be found in dreams.

Rahbek and Valentin are always leading us somewhere and showing us something—one piece of the scene at a time, coming and going with different parts of a puzzle that eventually settles into a complete form. And through all this we perceive an inviting restlessness on their behalf, encouraging us to stray further and further into the private space of 'Elephant'. Valentin is perhaps best known for his work in the exquisite atypical pop group Kyo, though his widereaching music and videography practices covertly underpin his flagship projects.

Most recently, Valentin has been working with Yung Lean as both producer on his 'Nectar' album as Jonatan Leandoer127 as well as on their commission for Sweden's Cullberg Ballet. As Croatian Amor, Rahbek has made similar forays into unworldly pop and his work with Christian Stadsgaard as Damien Dubrovnik has been as critical as their cofounding of Posh Isolation.

Modest interventions from processed field-recordings and semi-erupting synths invite you to zoom in enough to hear the human hand. An attention to listening, to how sounds cradle the small movements and gestures that naturally accompany the playing of guitar, piano, and viola, is acutely developed by Rahbek and Valentin.

It's in this way that 'Elephant' persuades us that even small stories unfurl into the most intricate and tremendous of sagas"

Fall is the result of Mono.Noise label head Daniele Di Martino and Second State artist Rocko Garoni. They have created a Techno anthem with straight drums, lots of acid and a striking melody which is made for intense nights. Second track is a hypnotic vocal mix of the original together with singer LoraUte - make sure not to get lost while listening. First remix is coming from Martin Eyerer and he is proofing once again that he understands how Techno works - absolute rave track. Matthias Schuell is known for his uncompromising Melodic Techno but this time he is giving us a different side of him. He produced a percussive Electronica remix with a constant progression and perfect arranged dramaturgy.

Since its conception three years ago, the Hamburg based label hafendisko has been patiently building its reputation with a diverse and varied artist roster. Alongside releases from emerging talent such as Deo & Z-Man and Brynjolfor, it forms parent label hfn music's outlet for club oriented music whether with full releases or remixes for artists such as Kasper Bjørke and Faded Ranger and just recently welcomed renowned remixers such as Michael Mayer, Charles Webster and Luke Solomon, to name a few. Now with the release of Nummer Eins, Hafendisko is taking the next step in its evolution, serving up the best of past and present releases together with a string of exclusive cuts that signal an undeniably bright future. It's machine music with real heart and soul as, time and again, the tracks locate that elusive sweet spot that unifies mind and body. The opening act replicates this highly collectable four track vinyl EP that precedes the digital release: Snacks' ‚Easy' provides an aptly titled intro, with sweet melodies, warm synth swells and looping vocal hooks evolving over a low slung, funk inflected groove. 'Purdie', the duo's debut last September instantly became a huge underground hit, while they are currently working on their debut album. Unkwon is Anders Dixon from Copenhagen and people will stop asking if it's a typo soon. Just off his stunning remix for Trentemøller's Deceive he takes it underground with the stuttering beats and melancholy phase of ‚Everything', building a cavernous yet claustrophobic soundscape that's designed to make your eyeballs sweat, before Ewan Pearson's NRG instrumental of Kasper Bjørke's ‚Apart' goes into dance floor overdrive, upping the ante again. Both the Michael Mayer and the Ewan Pearson mixes of Bjørke's final single off his newest album stirred a buzz.

Freestyle techno nonstandard DJ Sotofett produced this cosmic ambient excursion together with two Finnish producers Kalifornia Keke and Stiletti Ana.

Named lovingly after the venerable boozer from Only Fools and Horses, Interpret 'The Nag's Head' is the sonic moniker of Brighton artist Stephen Maskell. Combining on the fly recordings, kitchen sink instrumentation and addictively constructed beats, Maskell's music is as one customer puts it - at times moving, at time hilarious and sometimes just great dance music. Following a trilogy of tapes, 'ENTROPY NOODLE' is Maskell's first LP proper, and signals a maturation of sound - bending, twisting and manipulating synthesis to explore every microtonal corridor of the sonic spectrum.

As is the norm with Holding Hands I very rarely releases anything by someone I’m not already close to and Harry is no different. We run our party Sock It To Me along with Dr. Banana and Alec Falconer and are in the process of setting up a label together as well.

Harry starting sending over bits and pieces about a year ago that he thought might Dit well on the label and I was completely in love with basically everything that he threw my way. In the end this EP has come out very well rounded in my opinion with a good mix of heavy, sneaky and melodic goodness strewn throughout. Sarky is a total snakey breaky weapon, M1 is a sunset cruiser for the summer months, Howzat is a classic Holding Hands dance Dloor destroyer and Nudge is a back pack full of sleaze to get you groovin’ at the end of the night.

OK enough of my blather. Go and listen to the damn things yourself and decide if you like them, rather than trying to work it out from reading a bloody press release you weirdos.

All four tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.

Nach knapp 5 Jahren Funkstille meldet sich Squarepusher mit dem Teaser "Vortrack" aus seinem kommenden Album "Be Up A Hello" (Januar 2020) zurück, aufgenommen mit der gleichen, analogen Technik, mit der er in den frühen 1990ern seinen unverwechselbaren Breakbeat-Sound entwickelt hatte. "Vortrack" zeigt Squarepusher von seiner darkeren und härteren Seite, den Fractures Remix dann zu einer D&B-Granate perfektioniert.

Over the past few years, Palms Trax has cemented his place on the Dekmantel roster and become one of the family. His upbeat attitude and knack for selection have made Jay Donaldson one of the scene's most in-demand and warmly regarded selectors. Combining rare, globally-sourced finds with exuberant house anthems, his annual sets at Dekmantel Festival have showed a nearly unmatched capacity for filling floors and creating grooves. Now, the UK producer puts his talents to work on To Paradise, tapping classic Italo, wave and Balearic house for an EP that has summertime written all over it.

Title track "To Paradise" kicks things off with an infectious, melodic chorus that spirals into a pulsing rhythm. It's full of those 'hand-in-the-air' type moments, and topped with blissful vibes. "Love In Space" follows with a throbbing bassline melded with rich atmospheres. It's more Adriatic than Balearic, careening with an anthemic affection and destined for festival season. "Heron" veers away from the Italo vibes and standard structures that hold regular dance tracks together. A departure into more experimental electronics, the dynamics are controlled through rhythms and the synthesised melodies create forlorn narratives across machine-driven sequences. It's a dynamic finish to this considered and perfectly timed trio of offerings.

Iconic DJ and producer Paul Woolford has teamed up with singer/songwriter Karen Harding to deliver ‘You Already Know’.

Blessed with a soaring vocal, ‘You Already Know’ flaunts Paul’s vintage sounding chord patterns to create a retro-sounding summer floor filler. The synth-led production follows his recent club-ready D-Mix of the single, which marked the 400th release on esteemed dance label Positiva Records who recently celebrated their 25th anniversary.

Combining Paul’s four-to-the-floor signature style with Harding’s rich and emotive vocal delivery, ‘You Already Know’ looks set to secure a spot as one of this summer’s hottest dance records.

It's safe to say that Detroit, a city steeped in economic, cultural and musical history, will soon weave its way into your soul should you spend any sustained time there. This rings all too true for Monty Luke. He has immersed himself in Detroit's scene since moving to the Motor City in 2008. His new eight track LP, released via Dogmatik, showcases the style of a new generation of Detroit producers carrying the beacon for a deep, Detroit sound that blends analogue weight and punchy drum programming together with masterful synth work and raw emotion.
Even at first glance the polarised artwork, an aerial map of Detroit, shows the more introspective nature of this Motor City ingrained release, with Luke purposefully steering away from writing club ready material. Introductory track 'City Lights' gives a first taste of this, combining swelling synths, dreamlike arps and crisp percussive hits. There's a real weight to the bass synth that compliments Abi B's soulful vocals all too well. 'Anton's Room' & 'Crime Wave' follow suit -the former with itslayered gritty bass, expansive stabs, glitchy bleeps and undulating arps and the latter creating a sonic swell between your ears manifested by a surging, panned arp, alongside sirens and punchy, gunshot like snares. Inspirations from Moodymann to Theo Parrish are clear to be seen in tracks like 'Move', taking a range of jazzy loops and samples and chopping them into a low slung, bouncing MPC laden jam.Progressing into the 2nd half of the album there's a transition from deep, Detroit house into harder hitting, electro territory. 'Willie Maze' with its killer drum programming, reverberating Rhodes and dynamic bass and 'Roja', combining emotive late-night chords and melancholic synth melodies, really honeinon that pensive, thought-provoking aesthetic. One of the highlights, 'Wasteland', is the best example of this transition -interlacing a commanding electro drum pattern with squelching, synth melodies and Serene Arena's introspective lyrics.
Then taking it full circle, closing track 'Block Is Hot (Black Hole Mix)' -co-produced by King Britt in Philadelphia (alongside City Lights, Crime Wave & Willie Maze), returns to the 4/4 path with a thumping party track, carrying through that raw nature emanating from the dark melodies and Monty's adlibbed vocals.
'Hard Work/ Not Hype' is a record flying the flag for those underground artists working tirelessly behind closed doors to produce material that's based on feeling, emotion and skill, rather than riding off the back of an inflated, socially constructed image. In 1988 formed a band called "Unidad de Transmision” recording the first Album of E.B.M (Electronic Body Music) in Argentina (1992).
After leaving the group, Carlos decides to focus his solo career and continues working with about 40 records and carrying out remixes for several bands.
Along his career he played as "opening Act" for international artists: "THE PRODIGY" (1998), "FRONT 242" (2000), "NITZER EBB" (2006) also, as headliner, in several clubs and festivals such as: PACHA, CROBAR (Bs As), CREAMFIELDS (Bs As), SKOL BEATS (Brazil), JJ-DISCO (Beijing China).

in live performances with hardware instruments

The prodigious 20-year old South East Londoner Tom Misch releases Beat Tape 2 through his own label Beyond The Groove. The project is a soulful extension of the themes explored on Beat Tape 1, this time featuring a host of collaborations including Carmody, the beautifully delicate soulful singer who just happens to be one of his friends older sister; fast-rising wordsmith, Loyle Carner and Melbourne native Jordan Rakei, who since striking a friendship up with Tom online, has taken the plunge and moved from Oz to East Dulwich himself.

Beat Tape 2 follows a string of well-received releases since its predecessor Beat Tape 1, including his Out To Sea E.P with Carmody, a white label release on hip-hop label Soulection, collaborations with the likes of Bearcubs and reworks of Mos Def and Busta Rhymes.

On Beat Tape 2, Tom has evolved his sound from its origins in Boom Bap hip-hop stylings of producers like J Dilla to encompass his diverse range of influences. Tom's music finds the sweet spot between electronica, hip-hop and acoustic, predominantly linked by a single quality: soul.

"It's about the feeling you get from the music that makes it soulful, and for me that comes down to the chords. If it's a nice, soulful chord progression that's what makes it soulful and gives you that warm feeling. A lot of Gospel music, J Dilla, Erykah Badu and Jazz - I find that very soulful. That's what I listen to, so I guess that comes out in my music."

Tom's success thus far can be partly attributed to the dedicated fan-base he has built single-handedly, evidenced by his +75k following on SoundCloud and the frequency with which he reaches the Hype Machine top five. His most recent, Hype Machine topping singles Sunshine found him an eclectic array of supporters - from one of YouTube's biggest dance music channels, Majestic Casual, to the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1.

Tom finds himself at the centre of a cluster of new London artists who share his sensitive, soulful, deeply melodic and emotive approach to music. With plans afoot to put a full live band together and the first tentative footsteps being taken towards recording a debut album proper, expect to be hearing loads more of Tom from now on.

A six-track release, ‘Fun Is Fun’ opens with the infectious, synth-driven title track, with a dub version and ‘Mamacita version’ also making it onto the record. Next up, ‘Dancefloor Anarchy’ is a similarly slick cut, while ‘Kill Your Friends’ is 140bpm and harnesses a killer bassline and unnerving scream sample to devastating effect.

“The title track ‘Fun Is Fun’ is a heavy bassline track, meant as a provocative poem, or as a joke you tell your friends who DJ,” Kessler explains. “When I did this track I was smiling because it’s my message not to take yourself too serious in this business. I think that's a big problem all over this scene.”

Following energetic releases on underground labels such Coméme, Get Physical and Numbers, the Cologne-born DJ, producer and poet’s distinctive sound has helped him grow into one of Germany’s most celebrated electronic artists. He has previously collaborated with the likes of DJs Pareja and Christian S while his music regularly receives club plays from Dixon and other A-league selectors.

TRICK was initially launched as a platform to exhibit Topping’s versatility as a producer, as well as a platform to showcase the wealth of emerging talent which he has been pushing in his DJ sets. Kessler, who played the TRICK launch party at Gateshead’s 4,500 capacity Mainyard venue, will also return to the tour with a set at the series’ upcoming Warehouse Project in Manchester on 8th November.

“I first heard ‘Fun Is Fun’ when Jackmaster was playing it in 2016 and it's become one of the most ID'd tracks online since!” Topping adds. “This was also the first time I’d heard of Bryan Kessler. Since then I've been hammering so much of his music and I'm absolutely buzzing to sign ‘Fun Is Fun’ a few years later as I think it could be an underground anthem. The other three tracks also show how much of a unique talent Bryan is!”

Telephones is back! This time with true norwegian underground vibe-archaeology, rescued from a humid attic on the rural island of Sotra, outside Bergen, Norway. Long presumed lost, the material featured on the first release on his own label, was originally conceived and programmed by a juvenile Mr Telephones on ancient PC-software at turn of the 90s/Y2K - at a time when the local Bergen-scene was percolating with main dogs Torske and Erot, a time when norwegian DJs were still allowed to play Peacefrog-records on national FM radio, and house, techno and disco was all-in-one. 20 years la ter, the tracks have been salvaged, exported and meticulously overdubbed, re-recorded and edited to current high standards of Telephonic Communication. One for the true heads!

Joy Orbison & Overmono team up a massive new 12" for XL.

"Two of theUK’s most respected and exciting prospects in electronic music, Overmono and Joy Orbison have joined forces to release a12” single that’s already been making the rounds on the DJ circuit to rapturous reception. But one of the decade’s final club bangers comes from an unlikely place-the rural London borough of Bromley. Overmono’s studio, based in a former magazine printers, already had a rich history in UK dance music before brothers Tom and Ed Russell arrived, having been in use by various prominent artists and DJs since the 90s. Leaving the city daily to commute to the studio in the suburb of Bromley-the opposite direction to the usual daily grind-helped back up the duo’s creative ethos and push them to make music further outside of the known and well-trodden paths. In late 1997, unsigned Melbourne producer Castel won a competition at a local club. The prize was certainly sought-after: a CD single release on leading local label DanceNet. That EP, “Estrel”, subsequently appeared in stores in 1998, but within two years Castel had packed away his Atari-ST, sold off his hardware and quit music for good.

Thanks to Echovolt Records, Castel’s story now has a happier ending. 22 years after it was recorded, the unfeasibly gorgeous “Estrel” is finally appearing on vinyl alongside original bonus cut “Me & You” and a trio of similarly impressive unreleased productions from the period.

“Estrel” is positivity personified – a melodious, morning-fresh blast of deep electro bliss rich in bustling drums, tuneful IDM style lead lines and darting, psychedelic electronics. It’s joined on side A by “Me & You”, a pitched-down chunk of hazy ‘90s electronica that wouldn’t have sounded out of place on one of Warp Records’ legendary Artificial Intelligence compilations.

On side B, Castel opens up his archive of unreleased recordings for the very first time. The rush-inducing, bass-heavy swirl of “Safer Somewhere” – one of the last tracks he ever recorded and reminiscent of some B12 recordings from the period – is followed by the intergalactic ambient brilliance of “Latch” and the lilting, sun-bright bliss of breakbeat-driven shuffler “16/11/1998”, whose combination of weighty bottom-end and layered electronics neatly sums up the unheralded qualities of Castel’s previously forgotten work.

Accou is a French sound composer currently residing in Brussels, Belgium. Stereo is his first release on Sweden-based imprint Possible Motive. Stereo is a collection of three different drone-based compositions, each of them exploring different rudimentary spheres, patterns and matters with the intention of transfer the listener into a state of meditation. Stereo is a collection of sounds shaped with the use of random oscillators and saturated sound modulations, a lethargic panning of sounds that conjures dark and unfamiliar soundscapes.

Photonz is the alias of Marco Rodrigues a DJ, producer and driving force of Lisbon's underground scene. For little over a decade now, he's been crafting his own deeply personal style of Portuguese house and techno. As a DJ, Photonz grew a reputation for deep crates and intensely euphoric sets and in 2017, together with Violet (co-founder at his Radio Quantica) and Lisbon's own Rabbit Hole collective, he started the now infamous Mina parties - a monthly, sex-positive, queer and intersectional-feminist techno party aimed at using the dissociative potential of intense raving to create a temporary space of suspension away from patriarchal expectations. 'Nuit' is Photonz?s debut album and a simultaneous reference the Egyptian Goddess of the Stars or Night. Marco was really swept away by the concept of ?freedom of form under the night sky?, the accepting embrace of Nuit. Ancestral, but also socially advanced and utopian; a deification of the night time. These ideas manifest themselves as eleven songs spread across two LPs that wax and wane like the moon. Photonz channels early techno, Drexciyan rhythms, balearic & atmospheric house; layering sounds, creating moments. All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in a royal blue and neon yellow jacket with duality/birth symbolism and trance-hieroglyphs designed by Eloise Leigh. We welcome production partnership Kassian to the fold for the 20th release on Phonica White. Consisting of Joe Danvers (who has released records on Wotnot music and Boogie Cafe recently) and Warren Cummings (aka Warren XcInce), Kassian spawned from their mutual respect and a wide crossover in each others' musical tastes, using their influences of Jazz, Soul, Broken Beat and Hip Hop to produce House with a more personal and innovative touch.

It's a fruitful collaboration, with Joe's background in the Bristol club scene and Warren's experience at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM resulting in a nuanced yet functional take on the classic House sound, particularly evident on their new 'Faux Polynesia EP' on Phonica White.

'Their debut release in October for the well-respected Heist Recordings from Amsterdam was well received and amassed impressive support from admired selectors. They kick off their Phonica release with title track 'Faux Polynesia', a warm, rolling atmospheric House cut that has been getting many DJ plays. On the flip is the uptempo bumper 'System' with it's spoken word hook and cheeky organ riff before rounding off the EP with 'This One's For You', a truly special end of night anthem in the making! Solid Tapes label and Ritmos Comunes nights boss Fabio Vinuesa delivers his first EP in Hooded Records. “Resonant Body” is the third studio album by Octo Octa (Maya Bouldry-Morrison). multi-instrumental affairs, performed non-stop at an increasingly prestigious list of clubs and festivals, serving

as prime examples of the MLU boys' core obsession: the interaction of human rhythm and electronic pulse.

That self-titled debut, to be released May 31 on Studio Barnhus, has been in progress since the very formation

of the MLU project in 2014. It contains some of their earliest work and of course their very latest – all perfected

at the Neve desk of legendary Gothenburg studio Svenska Grammofonstudion, in cahoots with mix engineer

Christoffer Berg (Depeche Mode, Robyn, Fever Ray).

The result is a sonically fascinating, endlessly generous and straight up FUN record that takes the listener on a

joyride through bittersweet stoner disco, frenzied scando-kraut jams and some of the sweetest dance pop to

come out of Sweden this side of Super Trouper.

The record is preceded by a limited 10'' release of album track Climb Me Up, complete with an exclusive club

Legendary Italian house/deep house DJ and producer Don Carlos based in Varese, North Italy. Active since the late 70s. His productions have mixing house rhythms with afro-american jazz sounds, verging sometime towards disco, sometime towards deep house or electronic soul. There's a similarly warm and hazy feel to second cut "Analog Express", where a nagging bassline and chillin' beats come wrapped in sunrise-ready electronics, toasty chords and more cut-up old school jazzy house. Throw in some refreshingly positive synthesizer flourishes of the kind once found in Italo-house records and you've got another tried-and-tested winner. Elegant, well produced classic deep house with sensual jazzy and smooth synth elements that sound really good on any equipment. All of the tracks on this EP are quality for anyone into deep house and quality club music in general.

Three years after Wisteria, Fellini Felin announces the release of a new EP, Temporary Fiction. Composed of 4 electro-pop tracks written and recorded in home studio, the artist here makes the choice to ensure alone the writing of texts and their interpretation.

Bakk Heia Records has evolved as an extension of Manchester based club night Bakk.Heia (Back Here).
The label mirrors the party's ethos: blurring the lines between ambient drones, performance, abstraction, hedonism, and dance music.

Johnny Phethean aka Schuttle, born in Newcastle and now based in Manchester, heads up Bakk Heia's debut offering with a 4-track EP, following a 6-track cassette released through London/Paris label Panatype, which ranked highly in Boomkat's ambient charts and received a sterling review from Resident Advisor.

The A side starts with the fractured and angular expanse of 'Grade 1', which gives way to the meditative percussion of 'Speke'.
Over on the B, 'Utensil' delivers a club focused acidic tonker, with 'Grade 2' providing the gentle reprise.

Schuttle's music is as much built for the dance floor as it is shaped for the introspective listener - raw and tender in equal measure.

Hot on the heels of the Jaxx Madicine remix of Kyoto Jazz Sextet on Local Talk, Tommy 'Tubojazz' Garofalo - goes on a solo adventure once again.

His previous EP "Unbreakable" had equal parts of soul, jazz and funk blended together with a house twist.
The follow-up "Night Colors EP" shows both that and a deeper electronic side.
Opening track 'Two' is a clever number with its changes & sonic wizardry throughout.
Turbojazz makes the perfect blend between house and techno dipped into one big pot of deep Detroit vibes.

Next up is 'The Joint', a track that wears the distinct Turbojazz trademark throughout with its playful keys and sequenced drum programming at full tilt.

Derived from the influential Japanese cassette tape brand of the same name, the TDK graffiti crew name of the 1980s and 90s, often serving as acronym for The Dusty Knights, or the mockingly British 'Tea Drinkers Krew', serves as album title here.

Having painted walls alongside REQ in the Brighton UK-based crew during the 90s and early 2000s, Rob Euroh was also active as a hip-hop DJ, human beatbox and electro producer throughout those years. Inventor of the 'Euro Scratch' - a turntablist technique akin to the more standardized 'Flare' scratch, but which enables much quicker cutting of the track via the manipulation of one up-fader in unison with the usual cross-fader - he released the 'Euroh Scratch EP' as a 12" in 2002 on the now defunct Blue Juice label, on which just a couple of years previously he and REQ had released an electro 7" together, and which also released work by such notable trip-hop artists of the time as Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky Tha Subliminal Kid.

Our second archival release for the TDK crew, the tracks assembled here form a snapshot of the sometimes playful, sometimes fuller-force phases of their UK electro and ghetto-tech experimentation, chiefly from REQ's late-90s period and Rob's early 2000s recordings. 16 of the 23 tracks are previously unreleased, with the remaining 7 being reissued from deleted vinyl editions.

Opening with the lino-cut throwdown of 'Snake in the Grass', the album immediately evokes the first wave era of b-boy beat juggling and breakdancing, with REQ hammering out a rust-flecked krush groove from a deftly chopped Steve Argüelles beat, and with whom he worked in the French Ambitronix improv collective in the early 2000s, playing turntables and loop pedal, with Benoît Delbecq accompanying them on piano. A series of lens-flared polaroids follow this phrenetic opener, hailing from REQ's cleaner, much less tape-saturated and more playful, Streetsounds Electro sessions.

These bleed hazily into a cluster of Rob's higher-octane dancefloor workouts, which up the intensity three-fold, culminating in a salvo of scorching ghetto-tech mutations, and which are re-issued here from his deleted 'Magma Man Chronicles' EP, a 12" first released in 2004 on Templedog Records. Also re-issued here are the 2 tracks from the Rob Euroh and Req1 Blue Juice 7" - bumping collaborative jams that pulse and crackle with idiosyncratic energy - plus a pair of tracks from Rob's 2002 'Euroh Scratch' EP. 'Pimp Twist', recorded under Rob's Miscreants alias is also included here, joining such previously unreleased collaborative fire as 'TDK Strut' and 'Ghettoblaster Apocalypse' - all of which sustain the merging of Rob's damp brick ghetto-tech and scratch dynamic with REQ's brittle sci-fi funk and renowned disregard for contemporary style codes.

One of REQ's earliest unreleased experiments with tape-recorded breaks from '93, 'Instant Karma', references 'IKA', another Brighton-based graffiti crew he painted in briefly with SHE1 and JADE2: chunks of rugged audio debris, raw like crumbling brick painted with fades of pink and violet, tumble heavily from the muddy ferric tape, contrasting vibrantly with the metallic beads of steely electro that dominate the rest of the collection like fresh paint on old walls - a contrast which lends this TDK crew release a full circle, off-kilter coherence. Soothing with its dubby melancholia, the final act features the serene 'Night Tagging', an inky cartoon vignette - shadowy scribblers getting up under moonlight, spliff embers glowing... chisel-tip markers scrub and squeak, rattle cans muffled on the way to some fugitive piecing.

Buffered Multiple is the techno A/V project of Vienna electro poster boys Microthol. Buffered Multiple return to Pomelo after their debut on our 20 yrs compilation and subsequent EPs on other imprints. “Buffer 05” starts off with “Prime Time” in super-saturated dub techno mode, its sublimely textured chords ambling hypnotically over a tense and pounding beat. “Shitty Track” changes gears into jack mode, with a bleepy morphing swing hook that drives up the intensity over a percussive beat and takes all the right cues from Chicago’s second wave productions. “Junolized” delves deep into the abyss again, its expansive echoes weaving intricate layers of dub over a foundation of bottomless bass.

Over the years Kid Loco has become a reference in the French electronic music landscape. Firstly, known for being an activist in the French underground music scene, he cofounded Bondage Records in 1982. With Bondage Records, he introduced several bands to the French alternative music scene like Bérurier Noir, Ludwig Von 88 or Washington Dead Cats. Alongside his activity of label manager, he composed and released under the name of Kid Bravo, an experimental music at the crossroads of rock and electronic. Astonished by the beginnings of the instrumental hip-hop of DJ Shadows, Jean-Yves Prieur aka Kid Loco experimented new ways of composing music with the sample technic in his own studio near Orly. This new musical adventure led to the birth of a mini album Blues Project released in 1996 on Yellow Productions.

Exploring further his own psychedelic universe, he released his first album A Grand Love Story in 1997 under the name of Kid Loco. Acclaimed both by the French and international music review, “A Grand Love Story” established itself as an iconic album of the trip-hop and electronic music scene. During the two years following its release, Kid Loco continued to invent his own musical universe nurtured by multiples influences. In 1999, he released Jesus Life For Children Under 12 Inches, an album featuring thirty remixes he composed for French and international artists (Pulp, Talvin Singh etc.) as well as his mixed compilation for the famous DJ KICKS collection released on the German electronic music label, !K7.

After a first European tour, Kid Loco returned to his studio, nicknamed “The Lafayette Velvet Basement” and composed his second album Kill Your Darlings released in 2001. Compared to his previous compositions, Kill Your Darlings features more tracks without sampled vocals. Eager to explore new musical horizons, Kid Loco produced in 2004 the original soundtrack of the American movie The Graffiti Artist directed by James Bolton (Narrative Feature Sound Award – Austin Film Festival 2003). Cruising to new musical galaxies, Kid Loco continued to compose and released the album Party Animals & Disco Biscuits in 2009 followed in 2011 by the album Confessions Of A Belladonna Eater. In addition of his albums, Kid Loco continued to experiment with the production of compilations celebrating the trip-hop music with “Trip-Hop Classics” released in 2010 followed by a second opus released in 2013 on Wagram Music.

2019 marks the return of Kid Loco with his track Here Comes The Munchies selected in the original soundtrack of the show Vernon Subutex (Canal +), the vinyl reedition of his cult album A Grand Love Story and for the first time the digital release of the album Confessions Of A Belladonna Eater with exclusive remixes.

London based label and party Butter Side Up follow-up a sold out debut release from Christian Jay with another helping of atmospheric house music, this time from Leeds based rising star Midge Thompson. The long time BSU associate serves up three tracks that are complemented with a rare remix from the legendary Titonton Duvante.

Opener 'Destination 2242' is a slick and spaced out broken beat groover. Sci-fi motifs wither next to a sprinkling of garage percussion and rubbery drum programming is brilliantly loose and body popping. 'Delta' gets even deeper, with skeletal drums knocking out an infectious late-night rhythm while dreamy pads flesh things out. Spacecrafts drift in the background to add some cinematic stylings and make it perfect for the more close-knit dance floors.

On the flip, 'Beeston Lights' picks up the pace with perfectly rolling kicks pulling you in as keys twinkle up top like a distant metropolis at night. It's smooth and breezy house music to carry you away on a blissful vibe. Remixing is Titonton Duvante, a long time influence on the Butter Side Up crew and a cult figure in heady house circles thanks to definitive work on his own Residual Recordings, Mosaic and many others. His chunky take on techno is hard to beat, as proven here with a remix that re-works the drums into busy, restless things that work the feet while the Americans's typically ethereal pads bring real depth.

Rau fires up the deep space super telescope and takes us into the most functional part of a black hole with his side, while Pearla's debut tracks skew the tech with some electro funk flavoring suitable for easing the mind and schooching the body onto the dancefloor.

Berlin via Gold Coast label Nerang Recordings makes an exciting return with a strong debut from Russian producer Low Tape. Spanning blistering Detroit-tinged electro through italo-indebted melodies, ‘Reality Zone' makes for a versatile 6 tracker that does damage on both sweaty dancefloors and early night build-ups.

Low Tape has already built a strong catalog of thoughfully moody electro and house on labels such as X-Kalay and Further Electronix but he raises the bar on his Nerang debut. Straight out of the gate, opener “Funky Detune" weaves metallic and acid sequences that bend at the seams while an electro backbone drives the heat. The EP is full of those kind of highlights and special bangers like “Dangerous Groove” and “East Dancer” show the clear force that is Low Tape's ability to summon smooth and slippery soundscapes that exude serious grit and personality.

DJ Rocca started to produce in the late 90s, working on some drum&bass and breakbeat singles as Maffia Soundsystem from the same name club in Italy, where he was the main resident DJ. collaborated with Howie B, Pressure Drop, Zed Bias, Dimitri From Paris, Daniele Baldelli and Jazzanova producing singles, remixes and albums on some of the best european labels as Sonar Kollektiv, Compost, Classic, Rekids, Skint, Hell Yeah, Rebirth, Internasjonal, Futureboogie Recordings, !K7, Deep Freeze, Tirk,

The collaboration with such a great name of the jazz scene, moves on with the realisation of an octet and the production of a new album entitled “Intervals I”, recorded live at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome last March 2017. Mushrooms Project is Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano, producers and serial collectors of vinyl with a common passion for dj’ing and for any type of music whatsoever. The project came into being in 2003 when Giorgio, a punk band drummer and vinyl collector with a strong preference for anything from psychedelic rock to Afro, meets Marco a deejay since 1994 who mixes every possible kind of dance music; from afro to house, passing through techno and progressive. 2013 saw their debut album ‘Undergrass’ released on Leng Records, which was a continuous evolution of their sound elaborated in close contact with other musicians.
In 2015, Ivan King, a talented guitarist who had collaborated many times with the Mushrooms Project, became an integral part of their productions. They have now dj’ed across the world and are known for their hallucinating and all encompassing music that is made using live instrumentation such as guitar, bass, synth and percussion to create a “dirty” but unique insight to the very long, deep, mesmerizing and unusual minds of the Mushrooms.
We are proud to showcase a pure Italian collaboration effort. The uprising talents of the new generation of progressive producers meet with the Masters of the Cosmic House genre for an epic production.

A percussive and tribal house DJ, artist & innovator, Melé's brand of euphoric high-octane dance music is inspired by his love of Brazilian beats and transatlantic hip hop, with the Liverpudlian tackling 'Let's Groove' with impeccable flair, lacing the original with his unique and energetic sound.

For our latest sequel, a fresh team of highly skilled workers has been employed. Each contributor has developed convoluted techniques, utilising their apparatus to its full potential. Rube Goldberg Series proudly reveals the fruits of their labour.

Saturday opens with the ebullient birdsong that, every morning for a few months of the year, joyfully wakes Samoyed from sleep in his hut in the rural North of Scotland. For the rest of the year, the wild land returns to its state of brooding, overcast quietude, and samoyed spends his mornings sitting staring into the middle distance over a bowl of porridge. Recorded slowly and intermittently over the course of four years, Saturday is a document of sixteen of these passing seasons, a constant state of change and contrast - in the landscape and the man - reflected in its eleven tracks.

Samoyed's preoccupation with the natural world, balance and zen is counterpointed by the faded gloss of the cheap and failing 1980s equipment used to make the album. Saturday has a surface of synthetic lustre, gated snares and digital reverb, but underneath the gloss lies great warmth, threaded with 4-track tape hiss, splashes of plaintive strings and a heartbreaker of an upright piano. The result brings to mind Talk Talk, Severed Heads, Yasuaki Shimizu, Disintegration-era Cure and those bittersweet John Hughes film soundtracks.

Saturday marks the latest chapter in Flask's hectic release schedule, the last being Samoyed's Always from this point in 2008, a low-key classic of drone released on hand-screenprinted CD-R. In the years since, aside from gaining a design PhD and having a couple of wee melties, samoyed has released an EP of songs on Astro:Dynamics and prescient, loping schmaltz-house records for Lukid's GLUM and Jacques Greene's Vase labels.

Flask has been resurrected for the same reasons that it was founded - to release a Samoyed album so out-of-nowhere that no other label seemed appropriate for it (or really wanted it). In line with Flask's emphasis on beautiful, hand-crafted packaging, the Saturday LP features a 2-colour black and metallic gold woodblock print cut by the man himself.

The 'industry' of dance music can be as soul-crushing as any other. Those thrills and spills of late, loud nights come with a best-before expiry date, after which even the most seasoned selector-producer-scenemaker begins to wrinkle their nose. To have experienced it all over 15+ years and seek to see it unfold again through fresh eyes, what sort of lunatic would willingly put themselves through that V would. So it's a new character, but who was the mysterious V in a past life Make your own conclusions. A little digging will lead you toward the origin story, but sometimes the pleasure comes from the unknowing. Opt to enjoy the Silence. Silence, however, is not the focal point for V. In fact, this new form is a way to discard baggage and revitalise the process of music making. Tremors had become to show up in recent years on record labels in Glasgow and London, flickers of subterranean volcanic activity. Yet what proved to be rising was no big bang, nor even a phoenix from the ashes - but closer perhaps to a Nautilus. A relic by some standards but a pretty point of curiosity to others, slowly bobbing to the surface. Something ever-present and familiar to thousands, yet with mysteries left to be revealed. Stockholm-based audiophile bar Hosoi launches label with a rare release from Sweden’s HNNY.

Debuting on Studio Barnhus in 2011, HNNY aka Johan Cederberg quickly became one of house music’s most talked about artists with a signature sample driven style, making appearances on labels like Let’s Play House, Local Talk, Omena and his own label Puss (co-founded alongside Kornél Kovács). However, 2016 saw HNNY beginning a hiatus from touring as well as releasing music. Now Cederberg helps launch Hosoi Recordings.

Based in Stockholm, Hosoi is a listening bar with a focus on sound quality boasting custom-built KRS speakers, a hand built Condesa mixer and high-end Technics turntables. Many influential artists have passed through Hosoi —including Dip In The Pool, John Talabot, Young Marco, Kate NV and Wolf Muller & Niklas Wandt —both to share their music and to be part of such a vibrant space. It is the only venue where HNNY has continued mixing music regularly as a sole resident, curating the ‘Music For Listening’ series - a Sunday hangout for Stockholm’s discerning music lovers.

Releasing music created with its room in mind, Hosoi will put out live recordings and compilations from the bar’s favourites and it only made sense that close friend HNNY kick starts proceedings. ‘By’ nostalgically suspends the listener in time with looped female vocals, gentle guitar melodies and patterned hip hop beats.

Meanwhile on the flip, ‘Hosoi’ is coloured with twinkling keys which delightfully run over the top of lush chords sitting atop a bed of jazz percussion. Vinyl crackling throughout evokes the sound of spinning wax heard at the stylish venue.
