This new EP from J. Phlip fits that description nicely. Deep and dirty with filthy ghetto sample drops. In the 1840s a certain neighborhood in San Francisco was nicknamed, "The Barbary Coast." It was described as "the haunt of the low and the vile of every kindas Dance-halls and concert-saloons, where blear-eyed men and faded women drink vile liquor, smoke offensive tobacco, engage in vulgar conduct, sing obscene songs and say and do everything to heap upon themselves more degradation, are numerous." Lots of people think they know about SF basslines but only a few actually can pull it off. Jessica is one of those people. She is one of my favorite DJs on earth and her new EP shows why she fits in so well with at dirtybird. Big basslines, quirky ideas, and a general sense of mischief make this EP stick out from all the matchy matchy tracks out there.

Golpe de Estado is the new project from Berlin situationist/dilettante Capablanca and Swedish producer Tobias Pålsson. Having previously worked together on a couple of obscure releases for German label Gomma, the pair make their Items & Things debut with 'Secreto', a four-track EP featuring two originals and two remixes, recorded live and dubbed to analog tape.

With its driving disco-not-disco groove and dynamic arpeggiator line, A-side 'Secreto' builds and caresses the listener over the course of its epic nine minutes: part Paradise Garage, part Broken Hearts Club, its dubbed out disco rhythms, perverse synth lines, and jugged vocal snippets build a debauched sonic landscape that is as forward thinking as it is nostalgic. On the other side of the disco spectrum, 'Night Swimmers' is a Carpenter-esque piece that is as at home in the after-hour as it would be accompanying Argento imagery, it's measured build, luscious synth lines, and slow motion bass line rounding off the EPs final moments.

Remix duties come from two Items & Things regulars, label head Magda and Various Items 3 contributor Carreno is LB. Stripping down Secreto's groove, Carreno is LB's remix widens the sonic landscape, adding a healthy dose of dissonant weirdness in for good measure. Hints of jittery electro sit alongside haunting music box melodies, a master class in sparse dancefloor weirdness. Twisting the original's synth line, Magda's Vulture Mix increases the pace, maintains the eccentricity and provides a touch that is uniquely her own: deep, driving, epic and outlandish.

"Rooted Series starts with this first release along big artists from the underground scene...
This project will be V/A releases trying to show the underground minds from talented artists across the globe...
All this stuff will be released on vinyl only format...

Together they created the powerful and bass heavy original 'Intro Theme". Hotflush Artist South London Ordnance delivers a darker approach of the track, while MUSK takes the track into the peaktime. WALLS return with their third and final studio album 'Urals'

'Urals' is the closing part of a three album cycle that began with their self titled debut in 2010, and continued in 2011 with 'Coracle'

This album is an accumalation of four years of studio exploration, inverting their signature sound into a new, more intense dimension, seeing the duo once again exploring futuristic vistas with their corruscating synth lines, spiralling guitar figures and howling distortion/noise.

Informed by the creation/curation of their burgeoning Ecstatic Recordings imprint that has seen them release music by kindred spirits such as Pye Corner Audio, Axel Wilner (The Field) and L/F/D/M (amongst others) as well as their own individual explorations (Natalizia's caustic minimal synth work outs as NOT WAVING, and Willis's lurid, ritualistic techno as PRIMITIVE WORLD) 'Urals' pushes the envelope a long way from the template they set out with on tracks such as 'Burnt Sienna' or 'Hang Four'

From the stumbling off-kilter groove of the title track, to the probing kosmische pulses of 'Altai' to the intense, ear-shredding acid of 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love, to the sublime synthscape paen 'Radiance', its clear that Willis and Natalizia are taking leave of the WALLS project at the top of their game.

After a very techno first release, Unanim returns with another approach of the genre. It is Herodot who delivers two very different tracks for his Duo Ep.

Silent Record rules the first side of this vinyl and it's a monster. The rolling bassline and the powerful percussion are backed by tripping background noises. You cand also hear french experimentalist duo Radiomentalle and David Toop's distorted voice. This one is definitely not silent and 100% destined for the dancefloor.

On a more subtle note side B features Tul which is not as loud' and a bit tool-ish. Lurking sounds populate the background and the shakers provide a percussive feeling throughout the track. Techno hasn't left the building !

Revered Danish producer and live performer KÖLSCH follows his 2013 hit album "1977" (KOMPAKT 276 CD 107) with the new full-length "1983", again chaining up heroic techno tracks for a grandiose sonic journey to the vibrant heart of today's dance floor. PRIORITY RELEASE

Coupling contemporary production pizzaz with nostalgia-tinged soundscapes and sweeping melodies, this opus acts as both a skilfully composed portfolio of personal memories and a sublime collection of crowd-charming cuts - a modern classic in the making, coming from a master of his craft.

1983 features collaborations with Gregor Schwellenbach, Waa Industry and WhoMadeWho's Tomas Høffding.

Hot on the heels of SPEICHER 84 (KOMPAKT EXTRA 84), featuring club crackers DERDIEDAS and TWO BIRDS, the latest full-length offering from KÖLSCH is very much a travel album: "When I was a kid in 1983, we used to drive through Europe every summer on the way to the south of France", he explains. "A lot of my early music memories stem from these long travels, as we would listen to all my father's favorite records on the cassette deck. After getting a walkman, I would make up my own soundtrack for travelling, with early electro and hip hop creeping into my life. My father of course did not like it, and it never grace the official cassette deck of the car, obviously"

These trips became a primary source of inspiration to a hungry young mind forced to sit on the backseat of a car for several days: "they were also journeys through the seasons. In Denmark, it would be spring time, so I could nearly see us driving through spring into the summer. The scenery would change, and so would the mood in the car." Informed by the symbolic quality of these slightly gauzy childhood memories, KÖLSCH's unique melange of emotional and functional elements works exceptionally well for the full-length format - a seamless transition of musing introspection and explosve expression, where catharsis never seems far away in dance-ready techno vignettes like MOONFACE, UNTERWEGS or PACER.

From beatless opener and title track 1983 to the filigreed piano banger DIE ANDEREN or the bleep-infused synth-fest E45, each cut operates as its own little time capsule, storing bits and pieces of recollection and then magically transforming them into epic, beat-driven soundscapes. Confronted with other producers' input (and other memories), these traits find themselves extended in the most interesting ways - TALBOT, THE ROAD and CASSIOPEIA (also featured on KOMPAKT EXTRA 79) make excellent use of GREGOR SCHWELLENBACH's emotive orchestral flourishes, while BLOODLINE's lyrics come to life thanks to the distinct timbre of TOMAS HØFFDING of WHOMADEWHO fame. A new powerful take on an earlier collaboration, PAPAGENO 30 YEARS LATER not only rejoins WAA INDUSTRY on vocal duty, but also ends the album on a wonderfully elegiac, yet hopeful note - basically turning water into wine, as we've come to expect from KÖLSCH.

Back in 2012, Benjamin Brunn played a heartbreaking ambient liveset at the almighty Golden Pudel Club, Hamburg. His Set was recorded and released as a CD on Pudel Produkte. As it was the perfect soundtrack for the lazy days at Smallville Recordstore, we all felt the urge to release this on Vinyl- and during a blurry Smallville night at Pudel, we decided to do it. Benjamin cut out two parts of 20 minutes each and here it is as a limited Recordstore Day 2015 Item. There are 2 Front Covers on this Fullcover Sleeve- one from Stefan Marx and one from Alex 'C.I.A' Solman, the king of Pudel-related Artworks and MFOC.

Gasometric Run is Roger's new alias for LLN as well as his own label OGUN records only (except from remix enquiry).

After a first year of spellbinding releases, Sol Asylum returns in 2015 with a fresh various artist's compilation featuring three finely crafted tracks from the Sol Asylum crew to kick-start the labels second year. Bringing together a family of artists who have been there since the very beginning.

Starting off with the OdD boys Danny and Damian, we go all the way back to the first release with a brand new remix of Broken Spell. Whisking us away to a parallel universe of this odyssey, this remix is masterly conjured into a percussive exploration of the planet of odd.

Following the OdD ones, Julie Marghilano unleashes another side of Sol Asylum with Dragon Drops. She unveils her known atmospheric soundscapes but with a heavily detailed rhythmic twist, made by experimenting with her field recordings to create a more stripped down sound that shows her range and versatility.

Last but certainly not least, Miss Jools Calima brings the EP to a triumphant closure like a mystical fog. The elements of the track melt into drowning synths with crackling percussion and the elegantly designed grooves that levitate us steadily through the hypnotic melodies. The percussive strength of each track, while still being diverse links this collaboration of like-minded family members together as a cohesive potion.
