André Wittmann's debut album under the moniker Spur was made with both the body and the mind in order to indulge in an odd but somehow familiar 'dance of cultures' as the young Lübeck-based Bavarian calls it himself. 'I find it disturbing to see how all those fields of music are still strictly separated until this day. I'd rather see them all combined", he explains the idea behind 'Nowhereland' which compiles a selection of the best cuts out of 20 to 30 compositions Spur perfected them during a month-long stay in Ghent in early 2014. On 'Nowhereland", semingly odd time signatures form the backbone of what are essentially club-orientated tracks. Spur, who started playing drums as child, took to other instruments like guitar, marimba, violin and piano and whose influences range from Hip Hop to Stravinsky and Flamenco or Gamelan, approaches songwriting both theoretically and intuitively. 'I aim at putting the mind and the body in motion", he sums up the idea behind the uniquely odd but somehow familiar 'Nowhereland".

The latest offering from San Francisco's ICEE HOT label finds the young imprint officially welcoming another artist to its gradually expanding roster. That said, Contakt isn't exactly a stranger. The Michigan-reared, New York-based producer is one of the founders and resident DJs at Brooklyn's TURRBOTAX® party, which has long been a sort of sister party to ICEE HOT.

Contakt has previously released music for respected outposts like Local Action, Grizzly, and Dutty Artz, but "Nobody Else" and "Tessera 04" find him taking an important step forward as an artist, delivering tunes that are richer and more really realized than anything from his past.

Particularly on "Nobody Else," Contakt's flair for big-room melody remains intact, but he takes notes from classic KMS, filling out the song's cresting synths with a full-bodied bassline, a hooky vocal sample and a sturdy rhythmic underpinning. "Tessera 04" goes deeper, channeling Maurizio while delving headlong into a dense cloud of synths and maintaining a steady sense of forward momentum.

On the flipside, ICEE HOT resident Ghosts on Tape continues his recent hot streak, infusing "Nobody Else" with punchy drumwork and a potent rave sensibility. Detroit legend Robert Hood then rounds out the release, transforming "Tessera 04" into a pulsing and purring slice of heady analog techno.

Nice rounded EP. Rob Hood delivers a M-Plant style remix that will keep the dancefloor going. Ghosts on Tape's remix is a nice builder, throw-your-hands-up-in-the-air remix. The original version of "Tessera 04" is my favorite - very hypnotic and landscaping.

Thomas T & Anish - YHA NETH - Original
The rhythm of YHA NETH is as menacing and as dangerous as drummers drumming with
sticks of live dynamite with a very short fuse. Fortunately this track is also blessed with a
mature undulating throb and a groovy baseline worth the name, which attempts, as heroes
usually insist on doing, to save the day. Fat melodies and grave voices counter pulsate be-
tween each beat, creating friction & sparks which could, at any minute, ignite the fuses and
blow all to Hell and Kingdom come. Tension is masterfully controlled at it's tightest. Sirens,
wailing warning all to get to the nearest bomb-shelter to take cover — but the dancers,
mesmerized, are incapable of moving away from the dangers of the dance-floor to safety.


Thomas T & Anish - YHA NETH - Kane Roth — REMIX
Kane Roth has been producing since 2006 and is, without doubt, currently one of the most
fructiferous artists in France. This somewhat masculine remix of YHA NETH is powerful, per-
cussive and assertive. The massive relentlessness in the baseline is not only uncompromising
but unapologetic to beat and reveals handsome traits such as ambition, pride, honor, com-
petitiveness and a sense of adventure — perfect pheromones to drive anyone into a dance
floor frenzy. So valiant is the track that, in fact, if one doesn't pay close attention to the
dainty, tell-tale signs, one will be willfully tricked into imagining that this creative artist actu-
ally has a beard , hairy chest and and a baritone voice. Binary gender trickery I warn! With-
out the intricate soundscapes embroidered into the silky melody, one would never have
doubted that Kane Roth is a she! As curvy, and sexy a she as can be, her 'ballsy," no-
nonsense attitude exudes confidence... what more could a frenzied dance floor want

Thomas T & Anish - HOMME - Original
HOMME is like a fiercely growling fauve, as free and wild as only big cats can get. Ready to
hiss, spit and scratch. Thomas T & Anish first unleash this nasty beast and then duly set out
to artfully tame the savage, unruly reverberation. Never using a whip to beat rhythm into the
animal, they adopt a more subtle, elegant manner of hypnotizing it with a sexy, sensually
mesmerizing voice. Slowly but surely they entice the reverb to lessen into a mere echo which
finally ebbs gracefully away into the faintest of vibrations.The growls, as regular as a metro-
nome, give way to a deep and sonorous purring. A groovy, almost sloppy baseline underlines
organic warmth and well being. The once-tiger-now-kitty-cat greets you at the door and de-
mands a pat and scratch.

Thomas T & Anish - HOMME - Luca Torre - REMIX
Samuel Severino aka Luca Torre, the prodigal son, has mastered a minimally elegant yet
subtle twist to Thomas T & Anish's HOMME, rendering it sonorously slow and lazy at first.
The surprise is in the sudden change of cadence, a note of urgency is painstakingly crafted
into each element, expertly transforming the atmosphere, as if pressure was being applied
(to the pure delight of the enchanted dance floor). As the track evolves, the hypnotic voices
which seemed lighter and airier also take on a more insistent tonality. Dark piano notes
which appear to be scattered nonchalantly here and there, succeed wonderfully in holding
the melody together ever so loosely actually weave the track into one.

This is a massive and amazing house bomb by Sandro Beninati & Marcel Vidal feat. Iori Wakasa with nice vocals.
A lot of big names have done remixes for this bomb, e.g. Jacuzzi Boys (Cecille, Off Recordings), Loko (Great Stuff Recordings) and Miyagi (Rennbahn Records, Der Turnbeutel).

finally repressed! So, here he is again with 'Mists' a track previously unreleased but unmistakably Schatrax. Submerged beats, a skippy groove and a simple effective riff are the essence of the track while 'Keep On Loving' injects a glorious uplifting feel with a bouncing b-line and classic piano riff. Flipsides 'The Almighty' keeps things deep whilst 'Aliena's Groove' is one of Schatrax's signature tracks with it's haunting melancholic riff keeping the emotions high.

As alyways featuring one track by every Keinemusik producer, you'll find cuts by Rampa, David Mayer, &ME and Adam Port. And there are some special guests as well. Adam Port teamed up with the english House legends Stereo MC's to lay down the closing track - Place'.

on the release, as it has been with all the previous Workparty joint ventures of the Keinemusik collective, you'll find four cuts.
Contributors are again: Rampa, David Mayer, &ME and Adam Port. Using the anniversary as an opportunity, the tracks have been spread over two vinyls for the first time and - as another premiere - wrapped into a gatefold cover, amazingly decorated by the artwork of Monja Gentschow.
Leading us into the ring is Rampa's 'Mod' on A. A crossing of analogue and digital methods, recommending this piece as the
unmistakable floor offensive within the batch. Realizing how percussive slaps and the central synth-motif are escalating in call and response, it seems obvious that 'Mod' is not to be taken as the shortcut for 'moderate' in this case.
David Mayer's 'Smoke' on B is going for a dry and percussive approach itself, although executed in his typical signature sound -
intent on the details and all about the subtlety. 'Smoke' is a genuine grower. Crackling and rolling in seductive coolness and puffing one or another ganja-cloudlet into the air.
Yet more percussive spleens to be found on C, when &ME is unrolling his 'Birdland'. Compared to the two predecessors, he is
opening up to a pronounced songwriting architecture and almost tenderly implemented analogue elements like bass runs and piano chords, that are dramatizing this piece until it is consolidating to an impelling floor-affair.
For the grand finale, Adam Port is getting the legendary Stereo MCs on his side. Just for Rob Birch's vocals, 'Place' has to be seen as the most anthemic moment of this EP. But Port's sensitive instrumentation, all the deep sentiments within the beat and the effective sparing of the bigger gestures, are doing their bits to help shaping this one to be a foreseeable classic for the emotional peeks on a dancefloor.

Collecting Orders For A Repress! ..Phillips is the magnificent debut album by Phillip Lauer on Running Back. Frankfurtís melody man has amassed a body of work that includes the adventures of Arto Mwambe, top singles (Delta NRG) on his extinct Brontosaurus label for Permanent Vacation or Live At Robert Johnson as well as remixes for the likes of Maxmillion Dunbar or with the Tuff City Kids project.

The young Berlin label RoundQubeMusik gets on its fifth release, last one for 2014.
To sing it is the Italian, German based, Francesco Passantino, who now adds the "Molecular EP" to his rich discography.
The common thread of the three songs contained in it is definitely the rhythm, on which glide sounds and tangles of micro melodies. The title track also is reinterpreted in the remix of Rush Arp & Maurice Giovannini, continuing on the same path marked minimalist hypnotism, a defined time MicroHouse.

Originally from California and now residing in Montreal, Stefny Winter arrives on Third Ear with a fully-formed sound. This music is dark and trippy with plenty of weight. Since leaving Richie Hawtin'sM_nus family, Magda has set about forging her own distinctive path in electronic music. Unshackled from minimal techno expectations (not that she could ever be defined so narrowly), she has found freedom in this new chapter of her career. Whether its curating myriad unusual sounds on her reborn Items & Things label alongside fellow M_nusemigres Marc Houle and Troy Pierce, developing her own premium tequila brand or burying herself in her new studio setup, all of her output is imbued with a sense of adventure and exploration.

Her effort for Balance indulges both the cerebral, boundary-pushing side of her musical make-up, and the more dancefloor focused one - which is, of course, not without its kooks, quirks and moments of oddity. 'The most important thing is the narrative - what you're trying to say and how' she says of the process of putting her selections together. 'That's why I love the idea of a two mix compilation because it allows for lots of experimentation and space. The challenge is piecing together tracks that may be opposites into something that makes sense. That's the most fun.'

CD1 - pitches electronic composition as conceptual art. It's a journey through the outer reaches of electronica, experimental soundscapes like Dinos Chapman's 'Alltid' side by side with more 'conventional' slivers of tripped-out melody like NYMA &Carreno is LB's stuttering 'Solaria'. We're led from these more abstract pieces through the electro jazz of Gregory Fleckner Quintet into wigged-out 4/4 selections midway through the disc, ushering us towards a warped dancefloor where percolating concoctions like Hauntologists' 'Shakes' are considered the norm.

Magda keeps us guessing throughout, moving through Matthew Herbert's found sound ode 'Crisps' (as Wishmountain), the wistful melodies of CV30X and into twanging techno. The dubbed out spookiness of Shackleton's 'Cast The Die' and the shimmering guitar snippets of Andrew Pekler's 'Pitch Class Spy Glass' bring this beguiling mix brimming with non-genres to an eerie close. 'I definitely don't expect everyone to like it and I'm fine with that' she says of her explorations in the more leftfield spheres. 'I just want to open my eyes wider and keep searching for more.'

CD2 - with the bruising textures of Minor Science's 'The Beckoner' and squealing analog freakiness from The Mole &Hreno bringing the intensity from the off. From hereon it's far from a linear journey; with a wide range of styles showcased and twists and turns aplenty. But if there's a recurring theme across the second disc, it's the enduring sound of acid. Murat Tepeli's 'P.S.A. (Play Stop Acid)' sets the ball rolling, Rework's rampant 'In A Dance' and XDB's 'Inywa' both taking the baton and passing it onwards to rear its head on multiple occasions.
A smattering of exclusives includes Mathew Jonson & Jesse 'Heartthrob' Siminski's jacking rework of Seth Troxler's 'Evangelon' and the severely wonky undulations of Magda's own 'Trailerfork' thereafter. Etcher's 'They Are Us' channels acid trax simplicity, before techno luminaries Planetary Assault Systems and DVS1 lead us through paranoid and gently euphoric terrains by turns. Magda tests out new wiggling cut 'Scrumps' before heading towards the home stretch with some electro-infused gear courtesy of Tom Trago, Transllusion and Obergman. 'When I recall my favorite parties of 2014 I picture intimate venues with super tight sound and a good vibe' she says of the inspiration for this mix. 'For me when you get into a huge warehouse situation with sound bouncing off the walls and a sea of cameras in my face it's just not the same and never will be.'

This compilation displays the sound of a true crate digger; a dedicated DJ who searches far and wide for inspiration and fascination. It truly embodies every element of her eclectic sound, and is sure to unearth many an unknown gem for even the most avid of electronic aficionados. And it's that journey of discovery, which is ultimately what every good selector should take their listener on.

All-day/night cultural entertainment center and Athenian place-to-be, six d.o.g.s, has launched its' brand new label, six d.o.g.s records in the end of 2014. It's second release under the Gilda series, which focuses on contemporary, club-oriented electronic music, is Glacial's 'Entropy EP'.

Glacial are the joint project of renowned Greek techno/house producer Giorgos Lemos -simply known as Lemos - and saxophonist/experimental artist Ilan Manouach. Their debut was a self-titled LP on the Hotel Costes series, released to critical acclaim in the beginning of 2012. Ricardo Villalobos called it 'the album of his dreams' while the media described its' abstract, minimal, dubby, jazzy electronic music as 'hardcore lounge', 'elevator techno'. Today, almost three years later, they make their glorious return with a two-track EP on a 12'' vinyl (also available on digital format), taking a more dancefloor-friendly direction, but retaining their Maurizio-style and Balcan-Jazz tastes.

On side A we are greeted by an epic fifteen-minute-long dub techno monster. Don't let that sweet jazzy intro misguide you, as the track builds and builds to reach monstrous heights of energy, full of sub-basses and screaming horns, ideal for both peak-time or after-hours action. Side B is deeper, moody and minimal with a great groovy loop. Jazzy elements all over set the tone and when the break comes ilan's saxophone shines through like a blister in the sun.

Roots Running Back veteran Mark E returns with a tribute to the UK's Black Country and an ode to the Industrial Revolution. The images and histories of coal mines, steel mills and iron foundries north and west of Birmingham and south and east of Wolverhampton lay the foundation of the three track EP (including a work break siren). Being a product of his environment, Mark E delivers lots of sooty particle house music with a glimpse of sunshine. Bostin!

ain't no stopping us now. Even if you might feel that the release pressure is on, we just cannot help to put out these gems (at least, we think that's what they are). What you hold in your hands (or on your laptop) is neo-house of the finest order.
