Al Dobson Jr - Sounds From The Village Vol 1

REPRESS ALERT! Having previously impressed with the inaugural release on Bradley Zero's Rhythm Section Intl, South London beatmaker Al Dobson Jr brings his particular brand of tropical-influenced goodness to Kutmah's impressive IZWID label. Given Dobson's association with Mo Kolours, it's perhaps unsurprising that Sounds From The Village covers similar territory, with equator-warm melodies jostling for attention with African and Caribbean-inspired rhythms, deft MPC beats, cut-up samples (we detected Marvin Gaye and Surface, for starters) and rich, immersive basslines. For the most part, the results are impressive, making this a particularly potent debut album. It comes highly
recommended.

Classic Man - Melow / Love

Yet another slept on Wayne Gardiner production from 1992, hand picked from the Nervous Records vaults and fresh for 2015.

2 mixes of "Mellow" take up side A; the "From The Deep" mix is a classy, pacey deep groove, pure heads down NYC business oozing musicality, keys and melodies while the "Ambient Mix" follows with a tougher edged feeling, a taut bass-line and some haunting pads and piano. Both mixes are very different, yet equally engaging and both feature flawless production from Mr.Gardiner.

On side B we have 2 mixes of "Love", a subtle vibes led cut punctuated with classic vocal samples peppered throughout telling us we "Got to have it" and that love will "make you stay out all night long", a super deep track indeed with both mixes lending a different feel for the heads and dancers alike!

This is the first time "Mellow / Love" has been repressed since it's original 1992 release and this 2015 re-master and re-issue has been done in conjunction with and in full cooperation with Nervous Records, New York City. Essential.

Various - Easy Street Records Anthology (compiled By Bill Brewster)

12

Sources is a brand new series which will examine the output of a number of extremely influential independent U.S. labels throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

In an age where corporate anonymity reigns supreme and music is being treated like aural wallpaper, the Sources series will go back to a time when record labels really meant something via their A&R policies, their ground-breaking releases, their everyday modus-operandi and their general philosophies. What made these operations unique How did they manage to compete with the major companies How did they protect their artist rosters What sort of people ran these operations and how did they manage to survive in the cut-throat music business

Bill Brewster, co-founder of the influential DJ History website and forum and author of the acclaimed 'Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life' will be compiling and writing the sleeve notes for the series. The first six releases will concentrate on 6 New York independent labels which have each been massively influential in the evolvement of Dance Music over the last 30+ years - Easy Street, Sleeping Bag, Fresh, Sam, Streetwise and P&P.

Each package will be full of lovingly re-mastered original 12' mixes as selected by Bill. You can be sure that a variety of 'secret weapons' will emerge from each of these packages!

The first Sources package comes from one of the most consistent underground dance labels in history - East Street Records from New York. Easy Street hit the ground running in the early 1980s with the uptempo break dancing gem, Hot Streak's 'Body Work'. However, the real story of Easy Street was their consistent ability to gauge the mood of the dance-floor with numerous HUGE underground classics which read like a who's who of dance music history over the last 3 decades - Paul Simpson, Todd Terry and Blaze are just a handful of the names which have graced the Easy Street label over the years. The underground hits poured out relentlessly - 'Main Thing', 'Share The Night', 'Ma Foom Bey', 'You Don't Know', 'Treat Her Sweeter', 'Saturdays' and 'Deeper' to name a handful, all of which are included on here. An essential package for anyone who wants to re-experience the culture of the New York dancefloors throughout the last three decades via one of the hippest labels in dance music history. Easy Street Records we salute you in style!

Dj Haus - Burnin' Up

Dj Haus

Burnin' Up

2x12inchRINSELP034 2X12"
Rinse
25.11.2015

Following on from his Make It Hot six-tracker, Rinse are pleased to announce the release of Burnin' Up, the debut full-length album by DJ Haus. One of the UK's most exciting DJs and boss of acclaimed labels Unknown To The Unknown and Hot Haus.

Over the last few years Haus has honed his own unique, anarchic strain of bass-heavy house music, both solo and in duos Trumpet & Badman (with DJ Q) and Hot City. The result has been a salvo of raucous, dancefloor-focused records joining the dots between classic Chicago acid and ghetto house, hints of UK garage's compulsive bump 'n' swing, old-skool hardcore and the brusque splatter of the Bunker Records sound — a vivid hybrid sound that channels sheer energy in the club.Burnin' Up picks up and expands on that track record to date. Gathering twelve brand new club tracks, including collaborations with Innershades and Chambray, it showcases Haus as a dancefloor alchemist par excellence. Refracting the rawest styles of house-rooted music from the last two decades through the gleefully recombinant, mutagenic tendencies of UK dance music, its tracks are all united by Haus' characteristic diamond-hard percussion and distinctively deft ear for a vocal sample flip.Indeed, there's barely space for breath as the album burns through bleep 'n' bass opener 'Won't Let U Get Away', 'Houz Muzik'  featuring Chambray, firey 303 lines 'Acid Stringz', saucer-eyed rave 'EEE Werkin and the dizzying percolations of ghetto house (the title track, 'Make Me Feel') Innershades collaboration 'Track 10' evolves from a stripped-back, staccato drum machine workout into a hypnotic Motor City groove, while album centrepiece 'No More Loving', whose disorienting whirl of 8-bit bleeps tears upwards through a brusquely funky bassline. Burnin' Up is a sweat-soaked end to end, body-jacking debut album.

Fred Buddah / Ofuren - Mystical Arts Ep

Roots Go Deep are a label devoted to releasing music by South African artists. Since 2012 they've released seven EPs by names like D.Nel, Makhen Gigga and label owners Ofuren and Fred Buddah. Now that they've established themselves in the digital realm of music, Roots Go Deep arrive on the physical medium with a split EP of deep and dubby sounds from Ofuren and Fred Buddah. The two provide two collaborative tracks in "Floral Synergy" - a woozy house jam in line with MCDE's Raw Cuts - and "Do Deejays Dream Of Dancing Sheep", a sublime mix of subaqueous chords, chilled out drums and touch of acid. Buddah just about goes ambient on his solo track "Ragan" while Ofuren keeps it heads down and uber-dub on "Ripples Through Reflection". Roots Go Deep indeed.

Ka One/st Sene - Inside Silent Ep

Following a string of hot releases from Leif, Jonno & Tommo, Rai Scott and Jordan, London-based label Ornate Music is reaching across the channel to Parisian producers and Flyance Records founders Ka One & St-Sene - who deliver four tracks of pitch-perfect, soul-searching 4/4 that align perfectly with the sonic philosophy of the label.

The EP comes to life with the energised insistence of "Necessary Illusions", which capitalises on a sprightly rhythm section balanced out by sweeping pads that help the track straddle the warm-up / peak-time divide with grace.
"404 Page Not Found" takes a more heads-down route into moody bass tones, snapping percussive hits and mysterious melodic swirls lingering in the far distance, making a haunting foil to the inviting tones of the opening track.

On the flip, "Fuck The Hype" channels the spirit of dub techno into a subtly funky confection, letting the aqueous chords bounce in their feedback echoes, neatly sidestepping the soporific qualities normally associated with the style.
"Facing You" meanwhile makes for the ideal EP closer with its submerged beats and elegant swathes of harmony, conjuring up a captivating melancholia in each lingering piano note and chiming bell.

With each track telling its own unique story, Ka One and St-Sene have crafted a rich and engrossing release that shows how much diversity there is to be enjoyed in the contemporary house and techno scene.
