Ben Boe - Leagues To Light Years

A long time coming, Ben boe drops his very first solo EP on the label he conceived over 8 years ago. Narrtives of deep space travel and journeys into the abyss permeate the release from start to finish. Ganymede graces the A-Side with its interstellar funk and sci-fi chords cutting through a heavy atmosphere like that of the namesake moon itself. A sampled, spooky tale of watery destinations round off the a-side and lead into the depths of DEEeeP-r on the flip. Fuzzy saturated textures, whispering chords and heavy bass soften the descent whilst a chopped and maipulated vocal drones "Go Deeper, Stay Longer". Drawing influence from his home county, the early Sheffield stylings, machine-precision breakbeats and soft harmonies of Atomic Fuzz round off the EP.

BLASÉ BOYS CLUB
25.06.2015

Boundary pushing EP from Kiwi, regular side kick & friend of Duke Dumont, on Duke's re-launched label Blasé Boys Club...
London based Dj, producer and wonderkid Kiwi steps forth as Duke Dumont's Blase Boys Club imprint announces their next club ready EP. Striking out with Animals, the latest BBC cut heralds a new dawn for the imprint that prides itself on unearthing fresh and unique talent. After spending time developing his gut busting live show, Duke Dumont adorns the A&R hat once again as he readies this new EP. Kiwi (AKA Alex Warren) is no stranger to creating sure fire dance-floor tremors; in fact, he's shaping up to be one of the most exciting young producers out there after tracks on Sneaky, Needwant, Kitsune and Deep Shit, with a string of remixes and tracks set for release in the coming months, plus a much anticipated back to back set with Mr Andrew Weatherall, the Animals EP stands as the perfect bridge into Kiwi's forthcoming summer season. With each track named after obscure species of wildlife, it's reflective of Kiwi's own penchant for touching the outer reaches of the floor, pushing the boundaries with unique and honed sonic interpretations.
Starting life with wild intent, opening track 'ShortTail' takes on a pulsing, laser galvanised bassline, growling and pushing behind whirling atmospheric sweeps and layers of sub bass before dropping into a strong blend of techno drive and house swing, flanked by cowbell chimes and percussive nuances; make no mistake, this jacking track was aimed squarely at the soldiers on the floor. Next, Kiwi teams up with vocalist Takura for the light, dreamy and airy slow-mo house romp that is 'Fossa'. Takura's light, harmonic but strained vocals add an emotional quality to the ticking groove and slow-swing of the track, much like the cat like mammal that the track shares it's name with.
On the flip, 'Atlanticus', going for a slow-mo, electro-boogie fusion, bringing together down tempo groove and slow and low bass, showcasing the London bred producers penchant for all shades of house music with an ethereal, musically charged composition. After this brief respite, it's back to business on 'Pelican', with a balearic feel accentuated by perky and fluctuating basslines, the tempo firing back up through a mesh of oscillating rhythms, compressed snare hits and an unstoppable groove.

Christopher Rau - Lost In Brooklyn

Lost In Brooklyn

Thema
23.09.2014

Thema's latest 12' welcomes back an esteemed and prolific deep house artist, Christopher Rau, with another fellow member of the Thema extended family, Detroit's Norm Talley, on remix duties. Choosing to go only by his surname, Rau crafts a sexy, undulating track entitled 'Lost In Brooklyn' that marks his second release on the label from the same Big Apple borough. Thema is known for its quality take on dance music, marked by decades of experience and careful listening, this release is of the same elevated calibre that we've come
to expect from the internationally renowned label. It's layered, complex, and completely essential!

A syncopated pattern of stabbed chords remains the benchmark of the track, anchoring a groove that initially builds using off-kilter, intentionally grating background noise. As resonators get turned up and tensions mount, the moment when the funky, hi-hat led percussion finally arrives around the 2:20 mark is met with the kind of exuberant release that dancefloor-heaven is rooted in.

'Lost In Brooklyn' continues to ebb and flow throughout its remainder, with peaks and troughs that power through until the end and renders it more than a bit of DJ weapon.

Besides Rau, Norm Talley is also back on Thema and with a kind of focused fury that only he can sustain. He infuses Rau's upbeat production with his Motor City hypnotic soul and reworks it for a deeper, later hour. The motif that makes up the A-side is eschewed in favor of subdued pads, skittering cosmic washes drenched in delay, and driving drums that straddle the line between house and techno. The contrast between each side of this vinyl plays off the other nicely, but they both retain the sophisticated charisma that ties everything on Thema together.

Jack J - Thirstin' B/w Atmosphre

1x each customer !
Future Times is very pleased to introduce this killer 12" to the globe, a serious disc by JACK J.
His 12" for Mood Hut last year flipped many wigs and this 12" is further proof that the dude is full-fledged. "Thirstin'" takes the day-in-the-life quintessence of "Something (On My Mind)" even farther, using his voice to beautify the sparkling, spaced track.
The B-Side "Atmosphère" is just as mighty, as Jack channels a velvet Patrick Adams vibe in this gorgeous instrumental, the pianos in particular take the song to a galactic place. Both tracks feel like you could live inside them, each as good for walking around This Life chillin' as they are for the party.
Essential Summer Music.

Dj Sprinkles & Mark Fell - Fresh Insights Ep 2

DJ Sprinkles serves alternate, killer mixes of his massive 'Fresh Insights' session with Mark Fell (and Tony Benn). The future-classic B-side, 'Fresh' is given a slinkier rub-down by the Tokyo-based artist, propping *that* rousing speech by Socialist firebrand Tony Benn on a subtly reshuffled groove that surely marks up as one of the biggest deep house curveballs since, oh, at least their 'Complete Spiral' EP starring Arthur Scargill in 2012. Flipside, 'Insights' is also given the alternate DJ Sprinkles mix treatment, shying away from the sharper hi-hats of the original mix with Mark Fell in favour of supple congas and louche bass linked with a web of gossamer keys and beckoning diva coos. Worry not if you missed the sold-out 1st volume: this one's a total killer.

collecting orders for a repress! 'Garage Shelter' is an undeniable classic by living New York house legend and recent Objectivity roster addition Jovonn, it was featured on the 1994 double EP set called 'Stump It EP' on Nite Stuff and is highly in demand ever since. It has been picked up during the years by high-profile DJs like Theo Parrish, Ricardo Villalobos or Efdemin and became kind of a very effective secret weapon for them. Mojuba is very happy to make this rare killer release available again for you, completely restored and remastered and packed with an addition remix by recent Ostgut Ton / Unterton artists Tuff City Kids. Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer are taking Garage Shelter to a whole new direction, maybe satisfying even the techno heads of you, who are more into the sound of WAX, EQD or Shed these days rather than old school underground garage house! A worthy follow up release after the Tyree - Nuthin Wrong 12 in the Mojuba Underground Series! - one of the most sought-after Jovonn releases finally reissued - played by the likes of Theo Parrish & Ricardo Villalobos - all four original tracks plus a cross-genre remix by the aspiring Tuff City Kids - remastered by Redshape

Various - Dobule Century : Part Two

Warehouse Find!

It's with great pride (and a certain sense of defiance!) that Tom and I present you with the 200th Freerange release. Despite the best efforts of three bankrupt distributors, an arsonist (who set the Sony warehouse ablaze back in 2012) and a volatile market, we retained the fire in our bellies, a stiff upper lip, and most importantly an unrelenting passion for electronic music, we soldiered on and here we are at Freerange 200!
To mark the occasion we wanted to put together a compilation of exclusive new tracks from both long-standing Freerange regulars as well as some fresh artists to the label whose music we've been loving. Being committed to vinyl we figured the best way would be to do a two part release with four-tracks on each part.
Kicking things off we have my first original Jimpster track since Porchlight And Rocking Chairs. Head Spin is a relentlessly chugging house track which puts equal parts Disco, early House, Afro and Techno through the blender and out comes
a peaktime floor pleaser with a spring in its step and a lovely driving energy. I'm really proud of this one and hope you love it too! Next up we have Matt Masters teaming up with Pippo Ceretti on Xenophilia. We're like a couple of proud parents seeing how Matt has come on with his productions and this brilliant slice of freaky, stripped back electronic house shows he's heading for big things. Flip over for a very special track from Andy Hart, one of the Melbourne-based producers helping to re-invent and reinvigorate the current house scene alongside the likes of Harvey Sutherland, Fantastic Man and Andras Fox. Not only has Andy managed to establish one of the most hotly tipped new labels (Voyage Recordings) in the space of just two release, but he's also been rocking it with his productions on labels such as Heist and Sleazy Beats Black Ops and we're very happy to welcome him to Freerange with this sun-drenched slice of gorgeousness called MYLNY. Closing the first part we have long-standing Freerange regular Shur-i-kan stepping up with his track Raindance and if your tastes edge towards the jazzier,
fusion end of House then you'll be all over this one. Classic Shur-i-kan and sounding lush as ever!
Turning to Part B we open with a brilliant track with almost as good a title; Hamburglar from Luv Jam. This guy has been responsible for killer cuts on esteemed labels such as We Play House, Tsuba and Phonica White so we wanted in on
the action and thankfully he indulged us. We absolutely love the raw simplicity of this track which bumps along just perfectly with not much more than a kick, clap and single note bass line to keep you grooving. Apart from the repeating piano stab hooking you in and sending people nuts when everything drops out in
the break that is. Esa & Mervin Granger come next with the sublime deepness of Goema Heat. Esa's proudly wearing his Cape Town roots on his sleeves on this one and as the title
suggests, has come up with the perfect track to warm up any party worth it's salts. We're talking heavy on the percussion and tantalizing synth FX and a lovely tension which builds subtly before taking things up a gear after the breakdown when the bouncing bassline comes to the fore. It's fare to say a Freerange release such as this wouldn't be complete without a Manuel Tur contribution, so while we've been busy putting together his
forthcoming Remix Retrospective LP we're happy to say Manuel found the time to put together this gem entitled Laguenesie.
And last but not least we have Kito Jempere with his track This Is Why We Do This featuring Detroit luminary Jerry The Cat. St. Petersburg native Kito drops serious heat on this raw and dubby club jam which we feel is probably as close to an 'archetypal' Freerange track as it's possible to get so sums up this special
release perfectly. We thrive on your feedback so show your love people!
Cheers
