Woodsmen & Lady Log takes a new step into the future with this dynamic and impressive 12' EP from Anders Wasserfall. In less than a year since first starting out, Guy Gerber's Rumors label has become one of the go-to outlets for considered, classy and cultured house music. After tastemaking and standard-raising releases from Guy & Dixon, Lake People and Chaim - as well as memorable parties everywhere from BPM to WMC - now the imprint offers up a fantastically strong and seductive four-track sampler entitled Chinese Whispers.

Opening up are production geniuses Konrad Black of Wagon Repair and Martin Buttirch of Desolat. Their 'Siamese Connection' is a kinetic, rubbery afterhours track filled with weird sounds, great sonic design and captivating rhythms. UK newcomer Rhymos then offers the dubby roller that is 'Grey Table', Israel's accomplished Chaim then gets seriously spiritual and serene on his 'Too Dark For You' and Italian pair Hunter/Game make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up with their truly moving, majestically melodic 'Squares'.

This terrific label taster shows the world what Rumors is all about - artistic, emotional house music that mesmerises dancefloors and makes a big impact on souls and as well as soles.

Chasing Kurt, das sind Pascal Blanché, Wojtek Kutschke und Lukas Poloczek: zwei langjährige Deep-House-Fans und ein einzelgängerischer Funk'n'Soul-Typ, den sie unterwegs aufgabelten. Alles begann in einer schicksalhaften Nacht in Gießen, wo die Jungs zu Hause sind. Wie die meisten zufälligen Rendezvous unserer Zeit geschah es in einer Bar: DJ legt bis tief in die Nacht auf und Barkeeper mixt, was das Zeug hält. Als für beide das Ende ihrer Schicht naht, wagt Barkeeper ein paar Gesangseinlagen. Das fällt DJ auf. Er lädt Barkeeper zu einer Jam-Session ein, im bescheidenen Studio eines Dritten. Barkeeper ist hocherfreut. House ist eigentlich nicht so sein Ding, aber er tritt seit Jahren auf und jammt, und so sagt er sofort zu. Das Ergebnis ist "Daydream", eine sanfte und doch satte, glutvolle kleine Ballade - die dabei so gut ist, dass für ihre Veröffentlichung ein brandneues Label gegründet wird. Es folgten verschiedene weitere Releases, die den Fokus auf Chasing Kurt lenkten. So ist der Track "Money" von Maya Jane Coles für ihre DJ-Kicks-Mix-Compilation ausgewählt worden. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit hat das Trio mit Riesenschritten sein ganz eigenes Dance-Podest erklommen. "From the Inside", das Debütalbum von Chasing Kurt, begeistert mit schleppenden Beats und verschleierten Dancefloor-Rhythmen, wunderbar gepaart mit verführerischen Legenden von verlorenen Lieben und gewonnenen Schlachten. Eine runde, sorglos Dance-Platte und ein alles umhüllendes Hörerlebnis.

While their sporadic appearance remains a frustration, it's hard to find fault with Boe Recordings' Halal Prepared series of EPs. This third installment of the series, which lands 12 months after it's' predecessor, contains another quarter of high quality deep house jams. The real highlights - to our ears, at least - are the two tracks that doff a cap to classic Detroit techno, whilst keeping their feet firmly rooted in deep house. Both "Star Struck" by Chicago Deep and Havantepe's "Plane Waves" capture the retro-futurist spirit and stargazing electronics associated with the Motor City perfectly. Elsewhere, keep an eye out for Taelue's "Desolate Dreams", which offers a bittersweet trip into ultra-deep house territory.

Iron Curtis delivers his 2nd full 4 track EP for Hudd Traxx following up the huge 'Stansfield EP' in 2010. The opening track 'Care' demonstrates IC's diversity as a Producer as he lays down a killer bassline with melodic keys which will find it's way into many big hitters bags. 'Sing Along With Your Friends' has deep laid keys and an MCDE esk feel to it accompanied by some heavy snares for good measure. Flip for the B Side and find 'Shouting & Screaming', a dark driving track that even Spencer Kinsey would be proud of. Iron Curtis rounds off the EP with a solid groovy little number entitled 'Lasga's Return'

Culprit's most prolific contributor M A N I K adds a fifth release of original material to the label's canon.

Since his Culpritdebut back in 2010, MA N I Khas become one of LA imprint's signature artists and the one whose growth as a producer closely mirrored the label's own rise. A New York native, MA N I Khas become even closer to Culpritin 2014 - physically, by moving to its home base of Los Angeles.

'Nightfall'is an analogue house workout with an inventive bassline, crisp percussion and ethereal vocals that combine for one of the most distinct songs in Culprit's catalogue in some time. The remix comes courtesy of another of UK's young rising production stars, ThermalBear,best known for his releases on Sasha's Last Night on Earth label. His smooth yet bass­heavy rework is primed for maximum dancefloor action. 'Jerry Park'is a warm lighter take on the analogue sonic template.

Abstract Cuts is the first EP of a series produced by the French Dj & Producer Tomska. For this new project, Tomska explores raw and abstract sounds. Dirty kicks and phat basslines with dark synths on the A side, and a deep experimental track with a nice drum kick on the flip side. Since his debut on Vibes And Pepper Records, Tomska has been gaining steady growing attention by Underground House Music lovers and DJ's.

G2014 is over and Downbeat records, is back with a new release.Jose Rico and Urtzi , come back again with another 4 tracks vinyl. "Memories from another life" and "no back memory" are two deep house pearls with minimal sequences and emotional synths made by Urtzi. At the same time, Jose Rico is the responsible for the mechanical and powerful "Aint", and the percussive and ethereal "small island" , probably one of his best tracks so far. And, as they did with that "space is the place" ep, they have made here a consistent release, setting their personal view of the dance music.

Long-established house and techno twosome Dan Berkson & James What are proud to announce the arrival of their debut album, Keep Up Appearances, on their own recently minted Modelmaker label. To be released in December on beautiful double gatefold vinyl and CD, with reworked woodcut artwork by Conrad Felixmuller, it has been a long time in the making but the wait has more than been worth it.
Before now, Berskon & What have become synonymous with raw, machine made house and techno with no frills but plenty of heft on labels like Poker Flat and Crosstown Rebels. Their music engages dancers in the head, heart and heel in equal measure and this considered new album proves that once again.
Keep Up Appearances was written over the course of 18 months and has been whittled down from over 20 tracks, all made using mostly analogue gear with the usual Roland and Moog boy's toys, whilst the trusty Fender Rhodes, Space Echoes and Moogerfooger pedals are featured on many of the tracks. "At first we had a much more eclectic approach to making the album," says the pair. "But as time went on we found it worked better if we presented only the more electronic tracks together. It's not a straight up home listening album, but it still has a beginning, an end, and a couple of slower tracks that hint at our wider tastes away from the dancefloor."
Opening up with the deep space atmospherics of 'Quiet Life' the album immediately transports you to another world. The title track is then a melodically lush and uplifting affair with curious synth patterns ebbing and flowing beneath crisp percussion. Tracks like 'We Search For Answers' combine organic, wooden textures with more synthetic and trippy synth sounds that are as far away from your standard sample packs as can be imagined.
Across the course of the album there are dark, moody and emotive pieces like 'Worship' (previously released in extended form on the MDL02 single) featuring Qzen who reads a poem by Patience Agbabi in tantalising fashion as well as heavyweight, dubbed out techno groovers like 'Shadow Theory.' 'Make It True' (of which Seth Troxler will be releasing an extended edit on his Play it Say it label, complete with high profile remixes) is another great collab featuring the vocals of JoJo de Freq, and the track itself is a harmonious, radiant house jam that is humid and human in equal measure. The otherworldly, snaking 'Feel Free' again showcases Berkson & What's ability to coax alluring emotions out of their machines and closer 'Logan Five' wraps things up in suitably spangled, textural fashion.
Despite the fact much of this album will work on a dancefloor in the hands of the right DJ, there's an invention and musicality to it that renders the whole thing hugely listenable away from the club. A testament to Berkson & What's analogue invention and fluid ideas, Keep Up Appearances really is a master electronic oeuvre.

For their sixth release, Inner Shift Music are proud to present their second various artists compilation. It features four different tracks from different producers each bringing their own unique yet interconnected deep sound to the EP.

You may have heard of Jacksonville already, from his superb track (Tokyo) for Atmospheric Existence, as well as releases on his own imprint Doppler records. Following him is the very talented Jose Lau of Deepselect Records from California, bringing with him his signature, warm, intelligent sound, who not surprisingly had a recent release on Pulp. Next is the mysterious duo Gauss, who you probably know about from their imprint of the same name. Their rather excellent track brings a more techy edge to the EP. To finalise the deal, we get a stunning, lush, melodic track from Marco Nega, who had a recent release on Bumako.

Irish maestro John Daly is someone who came on the label's radar a few years ago through a mutual stoner friend in Barcelona We've watched from afar as his career has blossomed and snapped the chance to get him on board after catching his truly stupendously good live show earlier in the Summer. Layered, progressive, modern electronic music with ethereal harmonics and a nod to analogue forefathers is a universal in John Daly's musical cannon. And with Shine he's formulated a song that could encapsulate a moment in time at a Love Fever party. That 5am throb. Peaks and lows of a breather in the night,the sweating crowd, the stabbing baseline and fluctuating strings played loud and proud.
In short, and unstoppable EP from a producer on the very top of his game. A Detroit influenced yet clearly very contemporary EP with strong support already on this one.
With the B-Side, Desake floats into the EP, with a lead vocal stab layering into a dream-like baseline and rolling drum pattern continuing where Shine left off. And Journey's End may well be the secret weapon on this EP, playing out like a bard's lament. Minor chords & solemn pad work evoking the brutality and futility of lost love (and how many techno tracks can you say that of!).

ay West & Manuel Sahagun feat. Cody ChesnuTT drop 'Sense Of You' on Klangkultur Schallplatten with Okain and Dirk Hermann & Andreas Mueller remixes in tow.

The Cologne-based label founded by Dirk Hermann and Andreas Mueller drops its sixth release this July. Jay West & Manuel Sahagun reunite for their third release following 'Fool Me' on Off Recordings and 'Got Me' on Electronique Digital back in 2013.

Between them West & Sahagun have stacked up an impressive back-catalogue of work on labels including Neurotraxx, Drop Music, Moodmusic and Salted Music. 'Sense Of You' is a smooth and melodic affair, lined with silky pads, soft strings, shuffling percussion and an ethereal vox from Cody ChesnuTT.

With 15 years in the game and releases on Amam, Tsuba, VIVa Music and BPitch Control, French native Okain delivers a punchy re-imagining. It's an eccentric house cut built around stripped back rhythms, rolling bass lines and an elemental vocal.

Schallplatten head honchos Dirk and Andreas step up next for remix duty and cut things back, introducing a fresh piano arrangement alongside emphasised strings the duo draw out those understated crowning moments to deliver a smooth slow-lung jam.

'The Right Thing To Do' is the final offering on the EP and certainly doesn't disappoint with a meaty groove mapped over kinetic drum patterns, dancing bass and an airy spoken word vocal.
