Heavy release from newcomer therarelowry on the Soft Rocks 'Kinfolk'imprint. 'Nightshift' is a meandering acid tinged trance-dancer with a nord-esque bassline under pinning it.'The Morning After' goes on a heavier route but the mournful strings keep it on the light side of the dark with great intensity. On the flip side Soft Rocks take the 'Nightshift' into their specially designed 'acid fuzz' room to deliver a pounding percussion filled remix....all trax are receiving support from the Alfos duo of Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston.

After last year's second part, the third contribution of the - Vinyl Only Edits' series is curating a wonderful showcase of the diverse artists on BPitch Control. Besides Joy Wellboy, Furfriend, Snuff Crew and Cesare vs. Disorder & Dave Vega put hands on their own tracks again.
After his Tension Dub Version, Kiki roughens the single - Before The Sunrise' by Joy Wellboy with a dubby bassline, oldschool-driven percussion and a housy attitude, without neglecting the poppy face of the original. For their Vinyl Techno Remix of - Mindless', Cesare vs Disorder & Dave Vega remain faithful with their menacing mood, even though the kick drum not turning out as a beast, but as a poignant device to gently set the dancefloor in motion. Especially the morbid strikes in the background give an idea of ominous evil. For the Extended Version of - Walk With It', the duo Furfriend not only stretch the analogue charm, but swing their bat with a deep bass and a more dominant kick drum - a rough and inimitable style. "Tearing Me Away" by Snuff Crew is a wonderful treasure that targeted the dancefloor with the shining vocals of Kim Ann Foxman, but represents the perfect soundtrack for the sunrise as well. Their Vinyl Rework adds a bit more speed, while the chords not only retain their warmth. The acid pirouettes integrate properly to Foxman's timbre and the jagged percussion, before a veritable 303 inferno rises in front of our eyes and ears. Four tracks, four danceable gems.

The third and (for now) final chapter of the big book of the Woolfy vs Projections (aka Simon James and Dan Hastie) saga has begun. "Stations" completes the trilogy, which started with the two previous albums: "The Astral Projections Of Starlight" from 2008 and "The Return Of Love" in 2012. The concept of the albums by the California-based band are all loosely based on the adventures of the lost astronaut Captain Starlight, who is the hero in a Zazu track, a notorious Balearic rock classic which also set the bench mark for the sound of Woolfy vs Projections: a deep Balearic twilight vibe combined with a classic west coast sound, dubbed disco, beard rock and a heavy funk bounce. Tracks like "Absynth" (described by Resident Advisor as 'Air covering Steely Dan'), "Neeve" or "Set Me Loose" can all be considered as modern classics of genre.
"Stations" is perfecting the technique to filter a psychedelic folk album through modern day disco aesthetic. Whether it's spaced out house jams like "Combination" and "Tangiers", or the idyllic vibes of "Walkaway" or "The Bright Light Of The Truth", a hazy mood stretches over 10 tracks, plus a careful reconstruction of "Who" a Balearic classic from Odyssey that brings the listener into a state of bliss. "Stations" is not only the last resort of Captain Starlight but also a graceful end to this space epos.

Fatima Yamaha's first release ' A girl Between Two Worlds' (2004), including the masterpiece 'What's a Girl to Do' has been lingering since it first came out. The story of 'What's Girl to Do' is nearly as brilliant as the song itself. It took almost a decade until the world acknowledged the tracks brilliance. After being sampled by Hudson Mohawke on his 2015 album 'Lantern' and much demand, it is finally been reissued on Magnetron Music alongside Dekmantel . Only now in 2015 her debut album 'Imaginary Lines' is awaiting release.
Fatima Yamaha is not only the creator of this music, she is also the subject of it. Each song
explores the concept, the live, the joys and struggles of a girl born between worlds. Born between ages. Too many words might upset this delicate self-exploratory cycle.
Fatima Yamaha. Not a Creature of Culture Creation. A Girl Between two Worlds, a Citizen of the
Universe. What's a girl to Do when Love Invades and Imaginary Lines become real borders Midnight Crossing like a Sooty Shearwater to a place sweet as Plum Jelly. Eating Sushi and Baklava. At the Foot of Mount Ararat, skinny dipping in Sazak Bay. Departures on the bullet train in the pale moonlight, rising to the occasion again and again.

Silence In Metropolis aims to act as a hub for new artists breaking through; artists who mine a forward thinking vein of deep house, techno and the many shades in between. For their 4th release they turn to UK talent Michael McLardy for two original tracks and two remixes, one from P Lopez and one from Evren Ulusoy.
So far Mclardy has appeared on labels like Alive, Save You and Deso with a cultured house sound, and first track here 'Summer Crunch' follows in that good stead. It's a slow and low slung groove detailed with deft little jazz chords, bird sounds and plenty of loose limbed percussion. The effortless melodies suggest McLardy has classical piano training under his belt and the vibe overall is one of pure late summer, early evening bliss. The remix comes from Turkish Beatport Chart topper and Moodmusic associate Evren Ulusoy. He redesigns the track for more energetic moments on the dancefloor. His kicks are a bit more upright and propulsive and the pads are that bit more rigid, bringing with them a nice bit of organic and musical funk.
McLardy's other original 'Motorcycles' again shows the man's ability to craft low-slung and louche grooves with plenty of human roughness and genuine warmth. This one features a dumpy kick drum underneath and a melange of percussive clicks and ticks up top. It's sensuous and slow burning house music that you can really feel in your bones. Dogmatik and Tirk producer P. Lopez from Paraguay goes in on the remix this time. Having had support from the likes of Groove Armada and Maya Jane Coles in the past it's no surprise his version is a deep and groovy interpretation with clever use of filters to build tension and a fine driving bassline propping the whole thing up.
Staying true to their mission, with this EP SIM have introduced us to some fine new talents and easily lovable new house sounds.

The one year celebratory release of MOC sees label heads Andreas Pionty and fumée grise bringing forth a new concept that sheds light on the imprint's musical direction. The release consists of an attentive selection of four tracks out last year, that were given the remix treatment.
Gathaspar's celestial 'The Lover Of Ursa Major' is the first to get reworked. Andreas Pionty keeps the main focus on the vocals and adds extra bass and zippy synths, turning it into a high paced, relentless piece of techno goodness. The mysterious mood on the dubby 'Boyz Weekend' is turned down to a minimum, making headway for a more rapacious, dancefloor oriented take.
fumée grise brings back the eerie factor, starting with his 'Haunted Forest Remix' of one of MOC's first ever releases - Steven Cock's 'Fusion'. Stripped down of its more playful bell accents, the remix goes into a dark and deep territory, as the name suggests. Lastly, Gathaspar's sub-bassy 'Gathsoland' gets taken down a notch, downplaying the original kick but still centering around the addictive vocal sample.

Following the great response of their first release, London-based label OTHERTONES have pushed the boundaries once more with another exciting set of productions. This time the task falls to Antony Difrancesco and his Latency EP to continue the label's rise in acclaim and respect.
An artist that has steadily built up his reputation as one of the most promising talents on the underground circuit, Antony is here free to showcase the true range of his expertise. 'Jam' is a prime example of the depth of his influences, infusing the traditional house blueprint with an intangible air of ambience. On Side B, 'Dimplex' offers further proof of this and, in keeping with the ethics of the label, is complete with a remix from the ever-elegant and highly respected Vera.
Another showcase of the sound that has become synonymous with the label, Latency is an EP that is rooted in the underground whilst still creating a sound firmly embedded in the future.

After its initial string of records, Spring Theory is back with its third release of the year: The record is Let Me Love & Steal, the latest EP from Avalon Emerson. In the past few months, Emerson has moved from San Francisco to Berlin and has taken in her new environment's vibrant club culture, and it shows. But this four-tracker is a far cry from the dark industrial clichés that typify foreign expectations of the German capital. Instead, her cuts here carry an undertone of playful sampling that balance out the sheer power and energetic intensity of her rhythmic drive — aka it's a full EP's worth of hard-hitting house music with even more of her idiosyncratic flair.
The A1 is the EP's namesake, "Let Me Love & Steal," and it's her heaviest cut to date, picking up with a similar sample-driven heft as her past two releases. Though it's tempting, don't try to spot the sample, instead just ease in and immerse yourself in the euphorically freaky collision of its razor-sharp hi-hats, laser beams, booming kick drums, and mind-warpingly ambiguous vocals. Slip the needle over to A2 and you'll find "Let Me Love & Steal (Triple Scorpio Mix)," a stripped down retooling of the original that rounds the vocal sample into a wash of contorting sonic colors that lets the percussion come forward and take center stage. Incorporating a little more techno propulsion, it transforms itself halfway through into a hard shot of energy, with swung snares and chunky stabs that crash through the mix. Both versions are energetic bombs designed for dancefloors in the throes of a sweaty and full-throttle towel-on-the-shoulders workout.
Flip the record over and you get "Honest Gangster," a crunchy and jacking follow-up to "Quoi!" that features a surreal spoken word vocal delivery from Spring Theory label head Guillaume though he didn't know it until after the track was made (as it turns out, voicemails can be great sample sources). His presence brings the track a degree of absurdity, but it's Avalon's thrashing bassline and spaced-out synthesizer arpeggios that drives the point home. Here too it's all about intensity, albeit with a softer and dreamier vibe that's good for cooling off a little when you still want to keep the energy high. Finally, switch to the B2 for "Honest Gangster (Arpapella)," which rips out the rhythm and samples and lets the arp float freely through a healthy amount of spaced-out and trippy delay. If you're looking for a break (or something to start or end your set with) it's exactly what you're looking for. Add it all up, and you have an extremely versatile dancefloor focused EP that's ready for prime time, no matter what time that is.
"Title track here is great. Really nice work." - Philip Sherburne
"Great stufff" - Loco Dice
"Honest gangster is totally killer" - Andrew Ryce (Resident Advisor)
"Excellent, big. charting in september" - Pablo Roman-Alcala (Bar 25)
"A1 is wicked. heavy." - Lee Jones (Aus Music/ Watergate)

Thomas Mullarney III and Jacob Gossett are unstoppable. The New York artists, collectively known as Beacon, have been on a productive hot streak since 2012, and their efforts continue to pay. "When we weren't writing," Mullarney starts, "we hit the road and didn't really look back. We toured the US five times since The Ways We Separate came out, building this project the old-fashioned way." And Beacon's natural, time-tested process has brought us Escapements, their sophomore album for Ghostly. "We went into this feeling liberated," continues the singer/producer, and Gossett seems to echo his thought: "This record is in part our attempt to formulate what Beacon is going to look and sound like going forward." Escapements is about time, to put it simply, and all of the baggage it brings. The title is taken from clock mechanics, escapements are timekeeping regulators designed to transfer energy at a constant pace. "I was attracted to this concept because of the entropy it implies," Mullarney explains. "Friction and changes in amplitude over time mean every escapement, no matter how well crafted, will lose its accuracy and eectively slow down time via its own decay." This theme is delicately explored through Beacon's music and lyrics, engaging ideas of pain and loss with a surreal palette. Whereas the duo's debut was more streamlined and defined, Escapements thrives on an amorphous, free-flowing nature.
More than just a central concept, time manifests itself in these 11 songs quite literally, too. Take opener "IM U", a slow-swelling cut of electronic pop that has knocked around in Beacon's arsenal since the beginning. As Gossett puts it, "In its final form, 'IM U' is a track that has the history of the project embedded into it, an old idea filtered through years of growing interests and experience as songwriters." His idea is reflected by the remarkable cover photo, a single shot taken by Caleb Charland in darkness for eight hours. "The arc of the star trails show the rotation of the earth," Gossett points out. "I can't imagine a better representation of time, process, and discovery. It's how we wanted Escapements to sound."
After the initial demos were written, Escapements was refined and recorded over the course of nine months at Beacon's Brooklyn home studio and Gary's Electric, where it was mixed by Al Carlson. Tycho drummer Rory O'Connor was brought in to perform, unleashing new energy onto the Beacon sound and helping expand it to unheard places. Which is another notable theme on the album. "I hope this record proves our restlessness and shows that we really aren't content to have only one approach to creating music," says Mullarney. "Every part of our process is linked to discovery." And that meant trying out studio tricks and recording techniques on the fly, getting lost in the process until they came out the other side. Like on "Cure", Escapements' frenetic, breakbeat-inspired penultimate track. Mullarney explains: "There's a moment where I was simply playing chords on the studio Wurlitzer and singing while the mic recorded the room. The idea was to escape the produced electronic music, just for a moment, and capture the energy in the room."
Suffice it to say that Escapements tackles the difficulties of a sophomore album by ignoring their existence altogether—this is a record truly free of constraint and expectations. But because it's still a Beacon album, the duo's identity continues to shine through. Mullarney's voice sounds full and confident, even as it floats weightlessly over limber dancefloor constructions in songs like "Backbone" and "Better or Worse". It's a precise balance, and yet feels wholly organic. "When you don't give yourself a specific place to land you never really miss," Gossett adds. "We just tried to trust ourselves and not put limitations on what this record was supposed to be. In that sense, it's exactly the record we were meant to make."

Enlisting an all-star cast from Todd Terje to Nile Rodgers, Bryan Ferry returned in 2014 with Avonmore, his eleventh post-Roxy Music album. As we've come to expect from Ferry, there were impeccable covers to absorb but refreshingly, the lush collection was dominated by dark and romantic originals.
Now the cover master is having his own material reworked for a new EP on The Vinyl Factory. Having remixed 'Don't Stop The Dance' last time round, Idjut Boys breath new life into 'Avonmore' with both a pulsating, reverb-drenched journey and a super heavy dub take.
Also an experienced Ferry remixer, Prins Thomas cues up a slow-releasing, italo burner of epic proportions that will leave any dance floor gobsmacked.
And to round things off, Johnson Somerset - Avonmore producer and Ferry collaborator for 20+ years - steps up to deliver his own personal 11 minute interpretation of the material.
Mastered on the EMI 1400 and pressed to 180g heavyweight vinyl, Avonmore Remixed features both a bespoke screen printed thick card outer sleeve and a bespoke inner sleeve.

Another slice of essential Knuckles / Principle magic, here the duo's love of Italo and Euro pop records seems to collide with Chicago's darkened dance-floors and raw drum machines. Perfectly sleazy and insanely danceable, Jamie Principles voice was made for Frankie Knuckles pristine productions and their unique styles compliment each other endlessly,
Both tracks featured on this 12" take us into the subterranean night life of Frankie and Jamie's world, a world of yearning, heart-break, love and acceptance. A huge pairing of tracks on their initial release and still to this day some 25+ years later, "It's A Cold World / Bad Boy" was a total game changer, almost verging on pop but too "outsider" to gain the mainstream attention it so deserved, the record stands today as a true classic. Truly ahead of it's time.
Re-released for 2015, re-mastered and re-pressed with all the original Trax label artwork present in conjunction with the official rights holders / owners.
