An attack on nostalgia and childlike innocence, the Manchester based four piece kidnapped and toyed with everyone's favourite mullet sporting early 90s TV idol in their video for 'Ennui', eventually setting him adrift upon a burning raft of fire. Putting his over-stuffed studio to the test Lee pulls out all the stops on an album that includes a surf guitar-driven cover of Missy Elliot's "Get Ur Freak On" (already selected by taste-maker producer/DJ Tom Middleton for one his compilations), a full-on psychedelic sitar flavored take on Britney's "Toxic", and stripped-down super funky versions of the Kelis hit "Trick Me" and Timberlake's "Rock Your Body." Following on the success of Voices and Choices (from which "Kiss The Sky" was picked as an iTunes "Song Of The Day") and his previous albums (three tunes from which were recently used in each of the three trailers for the Oceans 13 movie) is the second album from Lee this year, but not his last. A Ping Pong Orchestra take on a Christmas album will follow in November. Lee's sound, which started as a take on old-school library albums and has grown into a sound of his own, it's made possible by his inability to stop making music in an insanely overpopulated studio. A 1940's early proto-synth called a Clavioline, a 100 year old Marxophone zither, a 1950's Virginal Harpsichord, a 1950's Xylophone, a rare 1967 Vox guitar that has Fuzz, Tremelo and wah-wah built in, a 1930's Double Bass and an early 1900's keyboard called a Dulcetone all reside within the walls of Lee's facilities. As a multi-instrumentalist and singer Shawn Lee has played and recorded with a diverse range of artists including Psapp, Coldcut, Leeann Rhimes, Martina Mcbride, UNKLE, Tony Joe White, Chateau Flight, The Dust Brothers, St. Etienne, Jeff Buckley, Bomb The Bass, The Spice Girls, and Natasha Atlas - not to mention solo records for Talkin' Loud, Wall of Soundimprint We Love You and BBE. He is also known to breaks n'beats collectors as the man behind "The Ape Breaks" and "Planet of the Breaks" series which were sampled by everyone from Guru to The Gorillaz. Music by Lee has been used in commercials for BMW andJaguar, in multiple TV shows, and in addition to theOceans 13 movie, he has had music in The Break Up andSave Angel Hope. He was also asked to score the entire soundtrack to the highly controversial Rock Star video game Bully for which he was nominated Best Original Video Game Score by Spike TV.

Hailing from North Somerset, UK post/prog-rock veterans BLUENECK have been at forefront of the European underground experimental scene since forming in 2000. They've released four critically-acclaimed albums, toured extensively across Europe with acts such as Cult of Luna and Mono, have soundtracked a number of independent films and had their work featured on NBC, HBO and SyFy channels, and are now mainstays of the European festival circuit (including a triumphant midnight set at Glastonbury 2014). However their most ambitious achievement - 3 years in the making - is new album KING NINE. Singer-songwriter Duncan Attwood's astonishingly affecting melancholy vocals have always been the chilly heart of Blueneck's music (2006's SCARS OF THE MIDWEST, 2009's THE FALLEN HOST, 2011's REPETITIONS), so fans were surprised when the band released the hushed, vocal-free soundtrack album EPILOGUE in 2012. However, work had begun by Attwood and fellow bandmembers Richard Sadler and Ben Paget on KING NINE in early 2011, in advance of the writing and recording of EPILOGUE. Continuing their ongoing relationship with Bristol UK producer/collaborator Mat Sampson, KING NINE has been a quiet labour of love - a deliberate, determined commitment to push Attwood's songcraft and singing to the fore. With no less than a mansion, a state beach, and a three-mile stretch of road bearing his fabled family's name, Ned Doheny easy-glided into the 1970s on a crest of wealth and privilege. Signposting Ned's sojourn through the LA recording industry were Jackson Browne, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Chaka Khan, Graham Nash, "Mama" Cass Elliot, Bonnie Raitt, and David Geffen--each a household name both inside and far from southern California. And while no bust of Ned Doheny appears alongside those of his Laurel Canyon brethren in the pantheon of classic rock, it's not for lack of songwriting abilities or recording chops.

Over the last three decades, Doheny's albums have slid in and out of print on LP and CD, budget jobs without any involvement from the self-described "avatar for casual vulgarity." Separate Oceans examines Ned Doheny's first ten years adrift in song, pulling together choice album cuts and 11 previously unissued demos. An 8000 word essay is illustrated by images from the archives of noted rock photographers Henry Diltz, Moshe Brahka, Clive Arrowsmith, and Gary Heery, creating the first ever overview of this unheralded marina rocker.

The release is a single disc 12' in standard matt finish slip sleeve with a printed inner bag and a download card. Recorded at Abbey Road with a 120 piece orchestra, it's a lush, sweeping piece, cinematic in scope and McCartney's melodic flair is evident throughout.

As with all matters related to Ariel Pink and R. Stevie Moore the exact details are vague -- but the origins of this compilation can be traced to Ariel Pink's "My Molly" e.p. from 2006. Included with the e.p. was a postcard insert that featured a hand drawn road-map to what Ariel considered to be RSM's best songs from each era. This illustrated his deep appreciation for, and understanding of, R. Stevie's vast catalog. Nearly all of the selections on this release come from that list and all were recorded between 1973 and 1984.

The final sequence for "Ariel Pink's Picks, Volume One" was sent by Ariel to R. Stevie around 2006 -- but the release didn't materialize until 2011 when Nick Noto (Big Muff Radio) discovered it while assisting with the digital reincarnation of the RSM Cassette Club. Later in 2011, Laughable Recordings released a limited run of 100 cassettes that quickly sold out and have been highly sought-after by fans ever since.

It is worth noting that the majority of these songs do not appear on R. Stevie Moore's many other compilations; and this is the first time that eleven of the seventeen tracks have ever appeared on vinyl. This essential collection was carefully remastered for vinyl release by Carl Saff in early 2014.

Johnny Thunders was the legendary hard-living rock'n'roll guitarist who inspired punk, glam-metal and the music scene in general. The film documents his life through the New York Dolls; the Heartbreakers in punk scenes of New York and London; various other incarnations, and to his tragic death in 1991.

This soundtrack album has 30 tracks including favourites 'You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory' and 'Born To Lose' and rare and exclusive tracks. It also includes four songs about Johnny by artists who were closely associated with him, such as guitarist Stevie Klasson with the title-track.

"American Caesar" was originally released in 1993, a couple of years after the all star "comeback" album "Brick By Brick", the double album found Iggy returning to the studio for the follow up with his muscular, tight touring band and they made what is arguably his best solo record since "New Values" in the 1970s. The dark, loud and subtly atmospheric record was recorded in New Orleans with Producer Malcolm Burn. "American Caesar" finds Iggy exploring the dark heart of America in songs that range from all out hard rock such as "Wild America" and "Sickness" to calmer numbers like "Jealousy" and "Mixin' The Colors". Iggy also puts his stamp on the rock classic "Louie Louie" and makes it his own with some lyrical updating. He ends the record with the funny and brutal spoken word "Caesar" in which Iggy plays a U.S. version of the ancient leaders of the Roman Empire. This is most definitely an Iggy Pop record and a hidden gem in his catalog. Includes a previously unavailable insert with an image of Iggy on one side and the lyrics on the other.

A giant two day meeting of three outstanding musicians!
German legend Peter Brötzmann is one of the outstanding saxophone players in the current international free jazz scene, continuing to go on tour and release with various musicians.

Frenzi Records presents Hip Flask, a comprehensive Best Of collection by maverick American artist Tav Falco and his wreckabilly' combo Panther Burns, including 2 songs from their brand new studio album Command Performance as well as 17 classic back catalogue tracks.
Raised in rural Arkansas, Tav Falco formed the first incarnation of Panther Burns in Memphis in 1979, offering an artful mix of punk, garage, rockabilly and art damage' influences, and sharing stages with the likes of The Cramps and The Gun Club. Legendary friend and mentor Alex Chilton (ex-Box Tops and Big Star) orchestrated their acclaimed debut long player Behind the Magnolia Curtain for Rough Trade Records, before going on to produce the next three Panther Burns albums, using vintage Memphis studios such as Ardent, Sam Phillips Recording and Easley McCain.
Tav Falco & Panther Burns have been cited as an influence by everyone from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion to The Fall, Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized. Renegade Tav Falco explores a highly personal vision of rock n' roll,' enthused Edwin Pouncey in The Wire in November 2014. Possessed by a wide range of influences that range from country and blues, novelty numbers and punk rock, to La Monte Young styled drone. But Falco has earned the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with the musicians and artists he so fervently admires.'

A permanent move to Europe in the late 1980s saw Tav based first in Paris, and subsequently Vienna, and an expansion of Panther's Burns raw garage sound to embrace Stax, lounge and even Argentinean tango influences (Falco is an accomplished dancer, as well as a photographer and filmmaker). His new set Command Performance was realized in Rome in 2014, and tops an extraordinarily rich back catalogue covering four decades and a dozen studio albums.
All 12 are represented on this new cherry-picked collection. Hip Flask is a genre-hopping portmanteau of tunes and anthems that have propelled, compelled, and haunted the minds, bodies, and feet of generations of celebrants,' explains Tav. There's an undercurrent which runs through each of these divergent songs - an undercurrent that wells up from darker waters and lifts the beholder in that wistful, joyous, sensual, and at times terrifying tonal embrace we call music.'

Neil Young took a different approach with this record, first recording the songs on his own in a solo-setting, then creating compelling versions of the songs in a new light with an orchestra and big band, resulting in a deeply-personal emotional listening experience throughout the new record.

The first track released from the album is 'Who's Gonna Stand Up' which was originally performed at Crazy Horse shows in the UK this summer and more recently, as part of Young's solo acoustic set at Farm Aid. As a multi-instrumentalist and singer Shawn Lee has played and recorded with a diverse range of artists including Psapp, Coldcut, Leeann Rhimes, Martina Mcbride, UNKLE, Tony Joe White, Chateau Flight, The Dust Brothers, St. Etienne, Jeff Buckley, Bomb The Bass, The Spice Girls, and Natasha Atlas - not to mention solo records for Talkin' Loud, Wall of Soundimprint We Love You and BBE. He is also known to breaks n'beats collectors as the man behind "The Ape Breaks" and "Planet of the Breaks" series which were sampled by everyone from Guru to The Gorillaz. Music by Lee has been used in commercials for BMW andJaguar, in multiple TV shows, and in addition to theOceans 13 movie, he has had music in The Break Up andSave Angel Hope. He was also asked to score the entire soundtrack to the highly controversial Rock Star video game Bully for which he was nominated Best Original Video Game Score by Spike TV

Chandos follow on from Greys and Speedy Ortiz on Carpark with a more guitar based heavy sound, this time bringing to mind the likes of At The Drive In and Japandroids

Rats In Your Bed's short but sweet song structures mix Chandos' pop sensibility with dread and urgency, creating a tense energy that gives the group a sound they feel they can call their own. The Boston-based group honed its craft in the local house show scene bands like Speedy Ortiz, Grass is Green, and Guerilla Toss also call home.While this is not the trio's first release, it is the first of this fashion. The band's first two self-recorded EPs were self-released on tape. 'While the DIY approach was a great and fulfilling process, we felt the sound we developed needed a boost in quality,' says drummer Julian Moore, who also plays with Sneeze. The band intends to reach a wider audience with a higher fidelity, but not too high. 'It's definitely a pretty dirty sounding record,' according to bassist Sean Tracy. 'It's dirty, but more so that it sounds aggressive and tight, it's not totally blown out by any means. Between the guitar and bass, there's enough distortion to go around for everyone.'For Chandos' first studio sessions, they teamed up with engineer Ryan Stack of Format Audio (Now, Now; The World Is...) where they recorded the instruments over a two day span. Vocals were finished in Chandos' practice space/makeshift studio. The result is a record of dissonant, fast-paced, anxiety-filled pop songs containing endless drum fills, distorted strings, and vocals that teeter on the edge of frustration and desperation.

Formed in the spring of 2011, roommates Sean Tracy, Julian Moore, and Dan Coulson began playing music together in a small Allston, Mass. bedroom. Over the course of several months, the trio turned their half-witted beer-fueled jam sessions into fully fleshed-out songs. With their similar upbringings in the Massachusetts and New Hampshire local music scenes, the three's fast paced and up-tempo writing style came naturally. The trio established themselves in the local Boston music scene as a weekend usual while releasing two EPs as Chandeliers, Big Shot Weekend, and Monday. Newly christened as Chandos, the band has just finished recording its debut LP, which will be released by Carpark winter 2015.

Known and desired by collectors for decades, it is today considered as one of the key albums to understand the psychedelic genre. This concept album makes use of a visit to a theme park as a metaphor for a Psychedelic Journey. Interestengly, The Aggregation where one of the few rock bands playing in Disneyland (!!!) at the time. The music is psychedelic, dreamy, sophisticated and controlled, there's flute and saxophone as well as the use of psychedelic effects, and the double-sided lyrics cleverly draw the line between their clear psychedelic intentions and the young audience of Disneyland. Reissued for the first time with its original foldout cover and remastered sound.

Second album by the band that managed to put Milwaukee in the musical map of the world. This is another story of a band who could have been at the top... and sadly weren't. Despite recording their debut album with Capitol and opening for Cream on their North-American Tour, the record flopped and the band had to turn to the small label Age of Aquarius. The recordings that were made for their second Capitol album were spread between this and their third and final album. Any fan of psychedelic music will welcome this -- their music can be compared to bands the likes of Iron Butterfly or Cream, and at times to Freeborne. Really impressive musicianship by all band members, with Pat McCarthy on the B-3 Hammond deserving special consideration, and a psychedelic vibe all around. Fuzz guitar all over, great vocal harmonies, accurate horn arrangements and an occasional but wise use of a flute. Never reissued on vinyl, don't miss this one!

First time ever vinyl reissue of the hard to find sole album by US duo Drnwyn. Wonderful record that has some very cool psychedelic moments (especially the track "The madman and the angel"), and a good number of fabulous folk rock midtempos. There's drums, bass and lots of acoustic guitars in here, but also electric leads, keys, mandolin and multi-part vocals with some female chorus as well. But most important, very well-crafted songs from start to finish. This was a private release back in 1978, and a very recommended album for those into folk-psych and folk-rock.

Follow up to their seminal 1968 debut, this brings you another example of what the Eden's Children are known for, and why they are openly (even back then) acclaimed as the best Boston band. Led by Richard 'Sham' Schamach's fine guitar playing and backed by the tight rhythm section of bassist Larry Kiley and drummer Jimmy Sturman, the children unload in this album another 12 Songs of Fuzzy Psychedelic Sounds. Debut album by this band from Santa Barbara, California. A five man band which included three brothers -- one of them being Ernie Joseph, lead guitar and vocals, who would later form and lead the psychedelic band 'Big Brother'. Highly consistent throughout, the album delivers 16 well constructed songs in a psychedelic soul vein, with catchy tunes and heavy drums; horn arrangements cater for the soul touch. While their follow-up album drifts away from their psychedelic roots, the band managed to record in this debut album one of the best records in the UNI catalogue. Led by poet, novelist and songwriter David Meltzer, the Serpent Power released this classic psychedelic folk-rock album in 1967. A true representation of the San Francisco area sound in the Psychedelic era, the album features great male / female vocal harmonies, interesting but unusual lyrics and excellent guitar work. It's also one of the first psych rock albums to have succesfully introduced the influence of Middle Eastern music, as shown in the 13-minute classic Endless Tunnel, some sort of raga-rock. After the departure of Van Morrison, the legendary Them reformed in the US where they released a couple of albums for Tower as well as a bunch of singles. In 1970, with only bassist Jerry Cole left from the original formation, they recorded this rare album for the money-laundering label Happy Tiger. Alledgedly counting on contributions by guitarist Ry Cooder and well-known composer / producer Jack Nitzsche (worked with Rolling Stones, Phil Spector, Neil Young and many others), this album is, in our opinion, the best of Them's american output. With a much rawer sound than their psych pop Tower efforts, you'll find here snotty garage-punk, waves of fuzz, strong vocals and pounding drum breaks (just listen to the opening track!), with a style ranging from garage punk to trippy psychedelia, a spoonful of eastern music and a brief hint of country (Take a little time). With the departure of Peter Green Fleetwood Mac moved towards a more melodic pop sound on Kiln House, Christine McVie was present at the recording sessions and contributed backing vocals and cover art, but did not become a full member of the band until shortly after the album's completion

Future Games was the band's first album with American guitarist Bob Welch and also saw the official introduction of Christine McVie as a full band member, moving even further towards a folk-pop sound.

The band's sixth studio album Bare Trees featured Danny Kirwan as the dominant figure, writing five songs to Christine McVie and Bob Welch's two a piece, but ultimately it would become his last with the band after he was fired following the album's supporting tour.

Released in September 1969 Then Play On was the band's third studio album and their first release with Reprise Records. It was the first to feature Danny Kirwan and would become their last with Peter Green.

Many of Gordon's old friends and collaborators, such as the late Arthur Russell, have been extensively documented in recent years through books and reissues, but Gordon remains a bit of an enigma. His music received a high-profile push thanks to James Murphy who prominently featured Gordon and the Love of Life Orchestra in his Fabriclive.36 mix, assembled with LCD Soundsystem drummer Pat Mahoney in 2010.
Later that same year, a revelatory reissue of Gordon's music from the '70s and '80s was released on DFA Records, which included two little-heard tracks recorded with Russell. He has also recorded respective collaborations with Factory Floor, Archangel, and Tim Burgess, and served as music producer on Robert Ashley's opera Vidas Perfectas. Now with SYMPHONY 5, the New York-based artist offers an updated version of the sound he's been refining over thirty-seven years with LOVE OF LIFE ORCHESTRA (orLOLO). Recorded in front of a live audience by Grammy-winning producer Jeff Jones 'The Jedi Master' on June 5, 2013, in the acoustically marvellous hall at Roulette in Brooklyn,SYMPHONY 5 captures the best of both worlds: the communication and energy of an ensemble performance, and the punch and careful attention to detail of a studio recording. The performance is tight, but loose: there's plenty of room for the unexpected asGordon the composer allows Gordon the conductor to make decisions on the fly. Throughout the work's five movements (one of which, "Juvenalia" is a homage to "Project Chick" by Li'l Wayne & Mannie Fresh's hip-hop supergroup, Cash Money Millionaires), Gordon's instrumental writing keeps moving, leading the listener through careening textures of counterpoint and groove, to say nothing of pleasure and pain; beneath all its exuberance and dry humour, flows a dark undercurrent. PETER GORDON performed his first symphony, Symphony in Four Movements, at New York's new-music centre, The Kitchen in February 1976, with a band that included Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Arthur Russell and Rhys Chatham. Combining disco, electronic, pop and jazz elements with experimental music since the early 1970's, he formalized his ensemble as LOVE OF LIFE ORCHESTRA in April 1977, initially with 12 musicians, and then performing at clubs and lofts as a rock-combo during the height of New York's downtown experimental rock scene. LOLO made several influential recordings, from their first recording, 1978's Extended Niceties EP, right up to to 2010's Another Heartbreak/That Hat on DFA which featured Arthur Russell and David Johansen of The New York Dolls.LOLO has always shifted in size and instrumentation, ranging from a duo to a dozen or more, but the core of its personnel has remained notably stable, with several musicians onSYMPHONY 5 having played with Gordon for over thirty years: trombonist Peter Zummo, guitarist Randy Gun, guitarist Ned Sublette and mallet percussionist Bill Ruyle have all worked with Gordon since the 1970's. With a stellar cast including Cuban jazz luminaries pianist Elio Villafranca and bassist Yunior Terry, the renowned Latin-jazz drummerRobby Ameen, New York veteran Paul Shapiro on saxes, Katie Porter on clarinets, and second-generation LOLO member Max Gordon on trumpet. PETER GORDON conducted the performance while playing combo organ and synth. SYMPHONY 5 is the first release in an extensive series devoted to PETER GORDON,on independent London label, FOOM. The series will concentrate on new recordings, unearthed material from his personal archive, as well as a few select reissues from his discography.

Featuring many legendary 45s, it is presented with remastered sound and a deluxe full colour insert including detailed notes and rarely-seen pictures, making it an essential addition to any psych connoisseur's record collection.

'In a field full of weeds the earliest garage psych/punk compilations still possess a charm that endears them to collectors. Back in the early 1980s a number of now extremely rare compilations were briefly available via mail order. They almost immediately disappeared onto the shelves of a small but hardcore group of US '60s rock fans. 'Everywhere Chainsaw Sound' was one such compilation that originated in France and was produced in a microscopic numbered edition of only 100 copies. Housed in a plain white card sleeve with handmade artwork it remains, even to this day, almost unknown by the majority of '60s US garage psych collectors. Inspired by Elektra's 'Nuggets' LP 'grey area' compilations such as 'Pebbles', 'Boulders' and 'Acid Dreams' created a demand for underground compilations that grew into the US garage rock reissue market that has since produced many thousands of records. An unceasing demand for music from probably the most exciting period of rock and roll has turned into a minor industry. Thankfully 'Everywhere Chainsaw Sound' is once again available as a limited edition high quality vinyl re-issue with improved sleeve notes and sound. You may have some of these recordings on other compilations but somehow the mystery excitement and sense of discovery that fuelled the first era of the garage rock revival is captured on this iconic compilation.'

Two demos of extreme importance for every collector of 70's Heavy Rock, back on vinyl (released in 2011 on Acid Nightmare Records but long gone). Earth are none others than the previous incarnation of Black Sabbath in 1969!

The Flying Hat Band is the band Glenn Tipton had before joining Judas Priest in 1974. The Earth demo sessions are comprised of 3 heavy bluesy numbers and one cover of "Blue Suede Shoes" already when they chaged their name to Black Sabbath as a bonus number. The F.H.B. have a similar sound to Sabbath but also makes remember other bands of the time like Horse, Fuzzy Duck or even Hard Stuff. Four songs were recorded with good quality sound as a demo in 1973 featuring the heavy blues guitar wailing of this later-to-be Metal master.

Elder is a heavy psych band from Boston, USA. Founded by long-time friends Nicholas DiSalvo, Jack Donovan and Matt Couto, the group spent years plodding in Sabbathian territory, releasing their self-titled debut in 2008. In the years that followed, Elder took a surprising turn away from their more traditional stoner rock roots, incorporating uplifting melodies and progressive song structures into their lengthy epics. The release of 2011's Dead Roots Stirring sent ripples through the underground and established the band as one of the genre's most interesting and experimental. Between lengthy hiatuses where DiSalvo resided in Germany, Elder continued writing, taking in inspiration from travels and experiences in non-musical territory. 2012 saw the release of Spires Burn/Release EP, the next chapter in the group's progressing mindstate. In the following years Elder toured the U.S. and Europe several times, culminating in the release of their live album Live at Roadburn 2013 from the Dutch festival's 18th edition.

Lore is the third full-length album by Elder and a watershed moment in the band's history. Joining the interplay of heaviness and melody which has become the hallmark Elder sound are a host of new meanderings through uncharted kosmische territory; krautrock, prog as well as classic heavy rock and doom can all be heard unfolding throughout the record's five songs. By giving equal credence to riffs and atmosphere, Lore bypasses genre constraints, the group's penchant for progressive songwriting and melody shining more brightly than ever.
