Elder is a heavy psych band from Boston, USA. Founded by long-time friends Nicholas DiSalvo, Jack Donovan and Matt Couto, the group spent years plodding in Sabbathian territory, releasing their self-titled debut in 2008. In the years that followed, Elder took a surprising turn away from their more traditional stoner rock roots, incorporating uplifting melodies and progressive song structures into their lengthy epics. The release of 2011's Dead Roots Stirring sent ripples through the underground and established the band as one of the genre's most interesting and experimental. Between lengthy hiatuses where DiSalvo resided in Germany, Elder continued writing, taking in inspiration from travels and experiences in non-musical territory. 2012 saw the release of Spires Burn/Release EP, the next chapter in the group's progressing mindstate. In the following years Elder toured the U.S. and Europe several times, culminating in the release of their live album Live at Roadburn 2013 from the Dutch festival's 18th edition.

Lore is the third full-length album by Elder and a watershed moment in the band's history. Joining the interplay of heaviness and melody which has become the hallmark Elder sound are a host of new meanderings through uncharted kosmische territory; krautrock, prog as well as classic heavy rock and doom can all be heard unfolding throughout the record's five songs. By giving equal credence to riffs and atmosphere, Lore bypasses genre constraints, the group's penchant for progressive songwriting and melody shining more brightly than ever.

In 2012, the funky aunts of no wave psych rock Erase
Errata reunited for a weekend in the Midwest to hang with
old friends, play shows and record, all thanks to the Mission
Creek Music Festival Artist-in-Residence program. Jenny
Hoyston, Ellie Erickson and Bianca Sparta, who live in
three different cities, arranged to meet in the sleepy, hawkeyed
town of Iowa City, where they took up residence at
producer / engineer Luke Tweedy's Flat Black Studios. After
a day of improvising, the band selected seven pieces to
flesh out for posterity.
Lost Weekend is the result, the fourth full-length release
for these spaced-out road veterans who've produced
weirdo music since 1999 for an international fanbase. Selfreleased
on the band's own label Under The Sun.

Little introduction should be required here. Let it suffice to say
that Bee Thousand is arguably the best, or at least among the top
Guided By Voices albums in a copious discography. Accordingly,
the album has stacked up accolades over the years, including
being voted #1 on Amazon.com's '100 Greatest Indie Rock
Albums of All Time.' It's a staple such lists, and has also placed
highly on those curated by Spin, Pitchfork, Mojo and Rolling
Stone.
This new LP pressing, the first since the late '90s, honors the
album's 20th anniversary. It features new (and definitely improved)
mastering from John Golden, a substantial gatefold
jacket with a previously unpublished Robert Pollard collage,
and high-quality virgin vinyl from RTI. We've also included a
free download card.

As a companion piece to the vinyl reissue of Bee Thousand,
Scat Records presents a new edition of this finest compilation
of Guided By Voices outtakes. Originally included
with the multi-disc set Box, this issue marks the album's
first release as a standalone piece. The first side features
highlights from two otherwise unreleased albums from
the band's early days (Learning to Hunt and Back to Saturn
X), while the second side mops up the best cuts left off of
Bee Thousand. All tracks are exclusive to this release.
Packaged in a high-quality, heavy-duty tip-on jacket and
pressed on virgin RTI vinyl, this LP is a must for even the

The Living Eyes are Billy Gardner (who, not only runs the esteemed Geelong record label Antifade, but also plays in Ausmuteants and Wet Blankets amongst others...) on vocals and guitar, Mitch Campleman on guitar / vocals, bassist Dayle Herbert and drummer Nicholas Hill. Their second full-length, 'Living Large,' was recorded in a day-and-a-half by (Straight Arrows' front man) Owen Penglis in his (new) Sydney hideout, Goliath Professional Recording Studio. The tapes were then driven back down the Hume highway and finished off in a couple of West Geelong bedrooms before being sent off to Australia's mixing master, Mikey Young.

Cult rare Heavy Pomp/Prog Rock from the U.S. These American Asia only recorded two albums, one in 1978 and this one which is a true masterpiece in 1980. This album predates for a few years along with Legend's From the Fjords the Epic Prog Metal genre followed later by bands like Warlord and Dark Quarterer. Influenced by monsters like Uriah Heep, Styx, Rush and Black Sabbath, Asia cemented their name on all the want lists of the Prog/Pomp collectors as well as the traditional Metal ones. Acid Nightmare released a few years ago Alpha Centauri and Legend so you know what to expect.

Limited 7' from Cowbells second album 'Skeleton Soul' Exclusive b-side, a cover of Ray Charles' 'Unchain My Heart' Jack Sandham and Wednesday Lyle have been playing together as Cowbell since late 2009 when they got together for a late night jam session and things took off from there. Three 7' singles followed over the next 18 months and they signed to Damaged Goods in 2012.. Imagine a band with the guitar twang of The Cramps over jungle-tribal drums, covering The Zombies and you're somewhere close.

A TOTALLY mod-freakbeat-free-jazz-psychedelic-garage-rock MASTERPIECE from a demented FRENCH DANDY

One of the "holy grails" of Indianapolis private-pressdom (surpassed only by Zerfas and Anonymous) available again in its original format! Ray "McKay" Pierle and his musically-adept brothers and friends partied, jammed and partied some more on Indy's south side throughout the mid-70's, forming a band (Loos) which managed to garner zero media attention at the time. However, Ray's trusty Teac four-track was always close at hand and countless hours of home recordings were induced onto magnetic tape, as well as a few songs laid down at a local studio. After a brief hiatus, the core members reconvened as McKay, and created their sole document, the 300-press "Into You" album (1978); the LP was given to friends and family and consigned in nearby record shoppes. A mere 15 years had to pass before the collecting world discovered the highly-personal songwriting, tight playing, and not-so-well-hidden West-Coast stylistic touches. A vinyl reissue was locally produced back then but it's long gone, so here's a new all analogue, master tape edition for a new generation to savor.

The band's first two, self-produced albums - released in unison with the birth of the commercial Zambian recording industry - are exuberant experiments in garage rock, and are as influenced by the Rolling Stones as they are James Brown. In The Past, their second album, is the perfect follow-up for anyone exposde to the WITCH band through their landmark Introduction.

Rare and highly sought after in its original format, Os Brazoes self-titled album was originally released on RGE Discos in 1969. It is a psychedelic masterpiece that fuses samba, r'n'b and rock 'n' roll influences using fuzz guitars, synths, percussion, lush vocals and effects.

Os Brazoes formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960's. They backed Gal Costa during her Tropicalia period, yet apparently never recorded in the studio with her. Miguel de Deus, the bands front man, recorded the highly sought after 'Black Soul Brothers' LP in 1977, which became an important record in the 'Black Rio' movement. Mr Bongo released the title track from that LP, on the 'Brazilian Beats: Brooklyn' compilation in 2006 and recently as part of their Brazil 45's re-issue series.

Tom Zé is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, innovator and composer who was hugely influential in the Tropicália movement of 1960s Brazil. Zé is often thought of as Brazil's answer to Zappa or Captain Beefheart; a true innovator and a true artist.

Mr Bongo re-issued Zé's debut record 'Grande Liquidicao' originally released in 1968. This, his second solo album, is self-titled, and was released by RGE Discos in 1970.

After the peak of the Tropicália period, Zé went into relative obscurity. It was only in the 1990s, when musician and Luaca Bop label founder David Byrne discovered an album recorded by Zé many years earlier, that he returned to performing and releasing new material.

Continuing in a similar musical vein to Grande Liquidicao, 'Tom Ze' is a wonderful combination of guitars, layered of percussion and tough rock 'n' roll, underpinned by Ze's instantly reconisable vocal.

Ze is in fact one of Brazil's most sampled artists. 'Jimmy, renda-se' has one of the most recognisable intros you will hear so it was no great surprise that Ameriie sampled it for her smash 'Take Control'.

All in all, another essential record from a true legend of Brazilian music.

Mannequin Records is elated to present a 12'' EP with two unreleased 1986 tracks of the mexican New Wave band Casino Shanghai, with a killer analog modular remix by In Aeternam Vale on the B Side.
Asking to Laurent Prot to rework Casino Shanghai was more than logic. Permeated by a strong mitteleuropean dark pop atmosphere, here emphasized by the french lyrics ('La Tumba De Edgar Allan Poe" is using a poem by the french writer Stephane Mallarmé), Casino Shanghai were the pulse of Mexico City underground scene of the 80's. Former members of the post punk band Size and the more experimental Decibel, Carlos Robledo and Walter Schmidt met the leader singer of Denseundergrowth Ulalume to record their first album "Film" for the Comrock/ WEA label that was released in December of 1985. The history of Casino Shanghai is double locked with the great cultural change in Mexico and the connected music scene.

One of the most seminal Japanese punk bands ever, Stalin formed in 1980 and blew away all previous attempts at Japanese punk thanks to their frontman Michiro Endo's crazy on-stage perfomances and their unique style. Even though by the release of their first LP "Trash" in 1981 Stalin moved towards a more 'hardcore/punk' direction, which resulted in what's known to be their best work - the classic 'Stop Jap' LP from 1982, Stalin's early singles are one of the best examples of what would be 15 years later defined as 'killed by death' punk rock. Originally released in 1987, the 'Stalinism' LP collected their first flexi 7", the 'Stalinism' EP, the 'Fish Inn' flexi single, along with 'Chicken Farm' their contribution to the legendary international hardcore compilation 'Welcome to 1984', to whom Stalin owe a good portion of their cult status. A great reissue for all Japanese punk fans out there.

Das neue Werk wurde in Chicago von Billy Corgan und dem seit 2007 in der Band spielenden Gitarristen Jeff Schroeder aufgenommen. Warum veröffentlichen die Smashing Pumpkins zwei Alben innerhalb eines Jahres
- Ursprünglich arbeitete ich an einem Doppelalbum. Doch als ich darüber nachdachte, wie ein solches in der heutigen oberflächlichen Kultur konsumiert werden würde, beschloss ich, es in zwei Teilen herauszubringen.'

'Monuments To An Elegy' klingt wie eine Hommage an die vielen unterschiedlichen musikalischen Phasen der Smashing Pumpkins. Harte Gitarrenriffs sind ebenso zu hören wie Keyboard- und Synth-Parts. Was wolltet Ihr damit erreichen
- Ich beginne die Arbeiten an einem Album selten mit dem Gedanken - wie es sein sollte', denn die Songs verschmelzen irgendwann ineinander. Sie werden dadurch beeinflusst, was genau in diesem Moment passiert und was nicht. Wenn ich also irgendetwas damit erreichen wollte, dann alles, an was ich musikalisch interessiert bin, zu vereinen.'

Was hat Euch dazu inspiriert, Mötley Crüe-Drummer Tommy Lee zu fragen, auf - Monuments To An Elegy' Schlagzeug zu spielen Wie hat er das Album beeinflusst
- Die Demos klangen bereits auf eine ganz bestimmte Art und Weise besonders und so schlug einer von uns vor, jemanden zu finden, der die Songs so spielen würde wie Tommy Lee. Jeff Schroeder sagte daraufhin: - Warum fragen wir ihn nicht selbst' Tommy gibt ihnen mit der Kraft und Anmut, für die er berühmt ist, eine Resonanz, die sowohl unmittelbar als auch unverwechselbar ist.'

Gitarrist Jeff Schroeder ist seit 2007 Teil der Smashing Pumpkins. Welchen Beitrag hat er zu - Monuments To An Elegy' geleistet
- Jeff brauchte einige Jahre, um seinen Platz in einem Sound zu finden, der bereits geformt worden ist, ehe er ein Teil der Band wurde. Er begann daraufhin, melodischer zu spielen, er ist sozusagen eine zusätzliche Stimme. Dieses Triumvirat zwischen ihm, Tommy und mir ist auf der Platte deutlich zu hören. Außerdem war Jeff eine Art natürlicher Produzent während der Aufnahmen. Er trieb mich in einer Art und Weise dazu an, mein Bestes zu geben, die die meisten nicht verstehen: mit viel Geduld und Zuspruch.'

Wie hat sich Produzent Howard Willing auf dem Album eingebracht Der Sound klingt würdevoll und zugleich intim, was schon immer ein Markenzeichen der Smashing Pumpkins war.
- Im Gegensatz zu mir lebt Howard in der Realität.', erklärt Corgan. - Er war für uns eine Art musikalischer Verkehrspolizist und zeigte uns deutlich die Stellen auf, an denen wir uns weiterentwickeln mussten. Dafür bin ich ihm sehr dankbar, denn wir sind keine Band, die in der Vergangenheit leben oder in Sentimentalitäten schwelgen will.'

Wie würdest Du die Songs auf - Monuments To An Elegy' thematisch beschreiben Da ist z. B. die verletzliche Direktheit auf - Run2me', die zerbrochene Romanze auf - Being Beige' und die sich ständig wiederholende Zeile - I will bang this drum until my dying day' auf - Drum + Fife' zu hören. Wie passt das zusammen
'Das kann ich ehrlich gesagt nicht beantworten. Wir wollten aus den über 80 Songideen nur die besten auswählen und Howard gefielen die mit einer starken Persönlichkeit besser, als die mit einem guten Riff.'

Wie unterscheidet sich das zweite Album - Day For Night' von - Monuments To An Elegy'
- Wir haben bereits mit den Arbeiten daran begonnen und momentan scheint es das komplette Gegenteil von - Monuments Of An Elegy' zu sein. In dieser frühen Phase klingt es weniger glänzend, dafür persönlicher, daher ist es noch schwer zu beschreiben.'

Cream were a 1960s British rock supergroup power trio consisting of bassist/singer Jack Bruce, drummer Ginger Baker, and guitarist/singer Eric Clapton. Their sound was characterised by a hybrid of blues rock, hard rock and psychedelic rock, combining psychedelia-themed lyrics, Eric Clapton's blues guitar playing, Jack Bruce's operatic voice and prominent bass playing and Ginger Baker's jazz-influenced drumming.

Cream's music included songs based on traditional blues such as "Crossroads" and "Spoonful", and modern blues such as "Born Under a Bad Sign", as well as more eccentric songs such as "Strange Brew", "Tales of Brave Ulysses" and "Toad", their third album (included in this set), Wheels of Fire, was the world's first platinum-selling double album.
