NOTHING HAS CHANGED collects together for the first time the definitive collection of David Bowie's music from 1964 to 2014. Fifty years on from his first recordings, Bowie continues to be at the vanguard of contemporary culture as a musician, artist, icon and a nonpareil to generations of writers, artists and fashionistas. He remains to be a unique presence in contemporary culture. Named after a lyric from the 'Heathen' album opener 'Sunday', it compiles tracks from every period of Bowie's career from his earliest incarnations with 'Liza Jane' and 'Can't Help Thinking About Me' right up to James Murphy's 'Hello Steve Reich Mix' of 'Love Is Lost' from last year. The album features Bowie's first new music since he stunned the world with the critically lauded 'THE NEXT DAY'. Alongside the brand new track are the previously unreleased 'Let Me Sleep Beside You' from the 'TOY' sessions, the download only 'Your Turn To Drive' making its debut on CD, and the stunning 2001 re-recording of the 1971 outtake 'Shadow Man'.

Swedish hypnorok experimentalists, The Skull Defekts, make a perfect addition to the Diagonal roster with the psycho-glam swagger of 'Street Metal', their follow-up to 'Dances In Dreams Of The Known Unknown' for Thrill Jockey. Comprising five tracks, including two extended dancefloor hypnotisers, 'Street Metal' captures the mercurial unit of Joachim Nordwall (vocals, guitar, oscillator), Jean-Louis Huhta (percussion, electronics), Daniel Higgs (ghost catcher), Daniel Fagerström (vocals, guitar, synthesiser) and Henrik Rylander (drums, feedback) in a taut flux of psychedelic rock and avant-techno with raids on arcane pop and percussive, tribal minimalism.Their instrumental 'Mission' opens the account with a gritted psych rock stance, all muscular guitar fire and churning, locked drums that would make Goat blush, before 'Mamal Combination' buckles down to a bestial, thumping glam stare-down, replete with icily poised vocals.However, SD really come into their own with 'Holy Drums' and its dreadnaught dub, galvanising current trends for 'authentic' psych swag with a crisper, more disciplined approach to rhythm, yoking scything, cyclical riffs to metallic drums for some twenty minutes of grindingly sexy, hipwise momentum in two parts.'Saturday Mourning' seals the session with a driving, droning dirge, consolidating Bolan-esque sleaze vocals with persistent drums and piercing synths right out of a Goblin soundtrack.It's all a damn fine reminder of Diagonal's wayward, unimpeachable tastes and finds ideal context amongst the likes of Powell, $hit & $hine, Blood Music and Bronze Teeth

Happy Meals is the Glasgow-based duo of Suzanne Rodden and Lewis Cook, life-partners since high school finding expression in cosmic form.
Originally from the Scottish borders, Rodden and Cook (also of The Cosmic Dead) begat Happy Meals in a flurry of experimentation at Glasgow's creative hub The Green Door Store. Initially the result of a free music production course, Apéro sees the pair embark on a blissful voyage into a love-fuelled, outward-looking hedonism. Both artists operate machines and sing but it's the dominating Franco-Scottish lingua-franca of Suzanne Rodden that imbues a sense of seductive fun to the album.

Their first recorded statement, Apéro is an instant rush of Kosmiche-disco, utterly addictive and inviting. The epic Crystal Salutation welcomes the listener in with analogue synths delayed into the horizon before Electronic Disco ushers in distorted drum machines and Rodden's disco-at-sunset vocal. Album stand-out Altered Images is a pop-masterpiece, mixing French / Italo disco, acid basslines and a sense of Scottish optimism. Am 05.September wird das neue Album "Step Back" des legendären Bluesgitarristen Johnny Winter veröffentlicht (Megaforce/Membran). Der texanische Musiker war am 16. Juli überraschend verstorben. Das bereits zuvor angekündigte Album stellt somit sein letztes Studiowerk dar. Dabei wird Johnny nicht nur von einer beeindruckenden Zahl an Gastmusikern unterstützt, sondern findet auch zu einem eindringlichen Blues-Stil zurück - dem Sound, der den Musiker einst zu einem der wichtigsten Vertreter des Genres werden ließ. Die Stationen seiner Karriere sind in die Musikgeschichte eingegangen. Von Grammy-prämierten Alben, die er für Muddy Waters produziert hat, über seinen Auftritt beim Woodstock Festival hin zum gemeinsamen Auftritt im Madison Square Garden mit Janis Joplin und Auftritt mit Jimi Hendrix - Winter war stets umgeben von den größten Künstlern. Und dies führt er mit "Step Back" fort. Produziert wurde das Album von Paul Nelson, als Gastkünstler treten Eric Clapton, Ben Harper, Billy Gibbons, Dr. John, Brian Setzer, Joe Perry, Leslie West und andere in Erscheinung. Among the manifold musical innovations occured in recent years, one of the trends both in Europe and in USA is to set up ensemble devoted to improvisation. These bands show similarities in their rich expressions, but could nonetheless be pigeonholed in two great families: one directly coming from the Jazz tradition and one of a more intellectual kind, connected with contemporary Classical music. These trends had been deeply analysed by «The Feed-Back» whose bold approach to music, more linked with current tendencies, placed them at the forefront of the Beat scene.

The name of the ensemble, «The Feed-Back», is noteworthy: a word coming from the cutting edge science of cybernetics communicates to the public the idea of a contemporary reality, almost physical in its essence. A feed-back is a device that enables an effect to counteract on its causes, achieving this way a given goal, as our body does when it regulates automatically our actions according to their ends.

This mechanism underlies the improvisation - a special circuit whose action adjusts and fine-tunes the energy of each single musician in relation to the others. The mechanism of feed-back transcends the inner dynamics of improvisation and aims to extend its action to the listeners, enabling another feed-back circuit, now between the band and the public.

This purpose is sought hrough unusual and disrupting stimulations such as the loss of traditional melodic lines, the introduction of noise in the musical discourse and a deconstructive approach which reduces vocals to the essence leaving only a few basic rhythmic elements as a blueprint that still characterises this music as Beat. Within this avantgarde context the band feels at ease thanks to its innovating spirit and is projected in a fertile future.

For now they invite us to listen to evocative titles like 'The Feed-Back', 'Kumâlo' and 'Quasars' - aptly chosen for a public ready to discover them, a public capable to understand how this band overcame current musical structures like Psychedelic music or Underground's timorous attempts with a sound closer to our times that we could name «Upperground». - FRANCO EVANGELISTI

' Somewhere in between psych-rock, avant-garde jazz and funky jams. The sound is definitely experimental and ostentatiously "underground". The music, anyway, is thrilling. The drum patterns, in particular, are extraordinary: regular, tight, groovy, and incredibly close to the "motorik" beat of Can and Neu!. "The Group" was not a band of young beatniks. As a matter of fact, it's just a pseudonym for Gruppo D'Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, a side project of well known soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone along with other experimental musicians. Best known as half of post-classical / electronica duo Piano Interrupted, London based French producer Franz Kirmann goes back to his electronic roots with 'Meridians', his second album, due out on Denovali Records next July. Strongly influenced by movies (he used to be a film editor and filmmakers Wong Kar Wai, Michelangelo Antonioni, Sergio Leone or David Lynch are happily cited alongside his musical influences), Franz Kirmann has a weakness for walls of sounds and fragile melodies, which to him are the sonic equivalent of slow-motion sequences, travelling shots or landscapes in cinemascope. While his first album - Random Access Memories (released in June 2011) - was a sort of compilation of music he'd written since 2005, 'Meridians' is a more consistent proposition where tracks were put together using the same technique of assembling tiny audio snippets and samples with a strong emotional content (from a pop vocal to an orchestral extract) and transforming them beyond recognition, to then assemble them and create something new and unique. Music was then composed from the resulting sampling manipulation, adding layers of vintage synthesizers, drum machines and granular soundscapes and resulting in a sound that could be best described as a meeting point between an 80's synthesizer soundtrack and a post-modern electronic record. The album title ""Meridians"" comes from the Chinese medicine's belief in the Meridian network, a path through which the life-energy flows. The album has a strong sense of an internal journey, the music being both an invitation to introversion and reverie but also suggesting an epic voyage. The meridians could be regarded as vessels carrying emotions, souvenirs, thoughts, travelling through the body and mind, provoking a voyage through one's own life without the need for movement. Nods to the 7th art are not only found in the sound and feel of the album but also in its titles. Each of them suggest a story or moment while remaining vague enough to let the listener fills the blanks. CD: digipak. Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem have teamed up to release 'Catholic', the lost opus of disco pioneer Patrick Cowley and Indoor Life vocalist Jorge Socarras. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the canon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of Hi-NRG dance music, 'The San Francisco Sound.' Born in Buffalo, NY on October 19, 1950, Patrick moved to San Francisco at the age of 21. He studied at the City College of San Francisco and met Jorge Socarras in 1973 through mutual friends. The duo's first collaboration was a ten-minute trance-inducing epic that Cowley composed for a performance piece by Socarras in 1975. Patrick, who played drums, guitar and keyboards, provided the perfect match for Jorge's vocal talents. Between 1975 and 1977 they recorded an album's worth of material before Socarras moved to London and Cowley started playing synthesizers for Sylvester. Upon Jorge's return to San Francisco in 1979, the duo would re-record some of the 'Catholic' songs with Patrick's newly acquired equipment. Meanwhile, Socarras met the musicians with whom he would form Indoor Life, and in 1980 Patrick co-produced their first album. The 'Catholic' album was offered to San Francisco's Megatone Records who passed on it. Fast forward to 2007 when Honey Soundsystem was contacted by John Hedges, former co-owner of Megatone Records. Hedges' was moving to Palm Springs and invited the crew over to his basement to collect over 2,000 records from his collection. Among the archives were three moldy boxes of quarter inch reel to reel tapes featuring unreleased music by Cowley, including the 'Catholic' material. The reel was passed on to Stefan Goldmann of Macro Recordings in Berlin who was able to track down Jorge Socarras and clear the rights. 'Catholic' was finally released on CD in 2009. 'Catholic' is a genre-bending concept album that ranges from minimalistic proto-techno to synth-driven post-punk, pre-dating the dance punk acts LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture by almost 30 years. It shows a much broader range than any Cowley or Socarras material available and gives a totally new perspective to one of the most inspiring eras in music history. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, the Velvet Underground, and Roxy Music, 'Catholic' prefigures acts like Talking Heads, Units, The Human League or Chris & Cosey. Patrick forges a unique electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, modified guitars, and self-constructed equipment while Jorge's vocals go from hypnotic to camp, singing about gay love juju and tackling classics by Donovan and Stoller & Leiber. Featuring over 80 minutes of music never before released on vinyl, this compilation contains two bonus tracks not featured on the CD release. The tapes were meticulously restored by mastering guru Rashad Becker at D+M in Berlin, then remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy dual pocket gatefold featuring the intended album cover from the original 'Catholic' photo shoot in 1979, and the original hand-lettering by Arch Connelly aka A. Style intended for the first 45rpm single. Inside the gatefold sleeve contains lyrics and an essay from Jorge Socarras. For the 32nd anniversary of Patrick's death, Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem present a glimpse into the minds of these two geniuses. These recordings shine a new light on the experimental side of a disco legend who was taken too soon. All proceeds from 'Catholic' will be donated to the San Francisco AIDS Housing Alliance.

Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert is a live album by English musician Eric Clapton recorded at London's Rainbow Theatre on Jan. 13, 1973 and originally released in September of that year.

The concert was organized by Pete Townshend of the Who and it marked a comeback by Clapton after two years two years of inactivity, broken only by his performance at the Concert for Bangladesh in August 1971. Along with Townshend, the musicians supporting Clapton include Steve Winwood, Ronnie Wood and Jim Capaldi. In the year following the two shows at the Rainbow, Clapton recorded 461 Ocean Boulevard (1974).

This Rainbow concert is the first live performance where Clapton used his famous Stratocaster guitar "Blackie." The Rainbow concert is a historic recording, the music is rich and rockin'. The addition of Pete Townshend, Ronnie Wood and Stevie Winwood brings out the best in Clapton. The album includes "Badge," "After Midnight" and Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" with Stevie Winwood taking lead vocals on Blind Faith's "Presence of the Lord" and "Pearly Queen."

(What's The Story) Morning Glory, the follow-up to debut album Definitely Maybe, is Oasis's biggest-selling album with 22 million copies sold worldwide. It was recorded between May and June 1995 in Rockfield Studios, Monmouthshire, with Owen Morris and Noel Gallagher producing. Released on October 2nd 1995 it spent 10 weeks at No.1, is the 5th biggest-selling album in UK chart history and became the band's breakthrough album in the US where it sold 4 million copies. The new edition has been remastered from the original tapes by Ian Cooper at London's Metropolis Studios, supervised by the album's producer Owen Morris. A small army of contributors including original members of the inner circle who were involved in studio and live recordings came together to hunt down unheard demos and live material. The team also unearthed a wealth of never-seen-before photos and vintage memorabilia which will be included in the new artwork.

Johnny Thunders was the legendary hard-living rock'n'roll guitarist who inspired punk, glam-metal and the music scene in general. The film documents his life through the New York Dolls; the Heartbreakers in punk scenes of New York and London; various other incarnations, to his tragic death in 1991. This soundtrack album has 30 tracks including favourites 'You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory' and 'Born To Lose' and rare and exclusive tracks.

A deluxe edition of the soundtrack composed and directed by Ennio Morricone for the 1971 movie L'Istruttoria E' Chiusa: Dimentichi (The Case Is Closed, Forget It) directed by Damiano Damiani and starring Franco Nero, Georges Wilson, John Steiner.

This is one of the best 'experimental' scores composed by the Maestro, with an avantgarde style that reminds his works with Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza.

Stack Waddy were a raucous four-piece from Manchester, and this self-titled LP is their debut, originally released in 1971 on John Peel's Dandelion label. On stage they were loud, aggressive, fairly pissed and remarkably unsubtle, as befitted musicians who were often forced to supplement their meager gig money by working days on construction sites. Their frustrations and energies were poured into music which was impossible to ignore. As the late John Peel once said 'Stack Waddy were absolutely incorrigible, everything a rock' n 'roll band should be'. A ripping piece of early '70s British guitar rock back in print on vinyl.

Wenn Dave Grohl etwas anpackt, kann man immer davon ausgehen, dass etwas Magisches dabei herauskommt. Sonic Highways , das neue Album seiner Foo Fighters, ist eine Liebeserklärung an die amerikanische Musikgeschichte eine vertonte Reise quer durch die USA. Jeder einzelne der acht neuen Songs wurde in einer anderen Stadt von Butch Vig produziert. Grohl und seine Bandkollegen Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett und Pat Smear wollten so das Energielevel hoch halten und jedem Stück den persönlichen Stempel des jeweiligen Aufnahmeortes aufdrücken. Dabei wurde die Band stets von einem Kamerateam begleitet, das die Studiosessions für die Nachwelt in einer acht Folgen umfassenden HBO-Serie festhielt, die auf den gleichen Namen wie das neue Album hört. Die Platte und die Dokumentation, die am 17. Oktober ihre US-Premiere im TV feiert, gehen eine einmalige Synergie ein, die es Dave Grohl erlaubte, das Schreiben seiner Songtexte immer genau ans Ende eines Tages zu legen, um sämtliche Erfahrungen in die Lyrics einfließen lassen zu können. Persönlicher und intimer als Sonic Highways war wahrscheinlich noch kein anderes Album der Foo Fighters.

Blame it on the Ramones. After Deerhoof finished recording demos for La Isla Bonita this past February, they began rehearsing for an upcoming tour. Halfway through a run-through of a long-time Deerhoof live favorite, their cover of the Ramones classic "Pinhead," someone offhandedly asked, "Why don't we ever write a song like this" So Greg quickly dashed off a song on a scrap of paper, showed it to the band, and they recorded the breakneck stomper "Exit Only" in one take. "And we suddenly realized," Greg says, "this is the whole thing, this is what the whole record is about!

The single Take My Hand features the theme to Toast of London, Matt Berry' hit comedy which is returning to TV Channel 4 on November 3rd for its second series. The single has been out of stock for some time and is now back, in limited quantities.

Toast of London sees Steven Toast, an eccentric middle-aged actor with a chequered past who spends more time dealing with his problems off stage than performing on it.

Zu has always been a mercurial and ever changing entity, not afraid of cross-genre explorations and breaking down barriers between musical styles. Despite playing traditional instruments, major influences on Zu music have always been sonic explorers like Coil, Throbbing Gristle or early Neubauten.
The Left Hand Path is the side of Zu that has always been hidden and underlying in all their previous music.Its like digging out a box from the earth. TLHP is everything the band had wished to highlight in previous works: , ambient and droney landscapes, and acoustic explorations in obscurity.
The album starts programmatically with the sound of a shovel digging the earth. Its a soundtrack for a descent in the underworld. Its moon musick.
All the members played electronics and Massimo focused mostly on guitars .
The recordings were then sent to Eugene S Robison of Oxbow fame.
Zu knew he was the right person to add vocals to it, and to transform the music again, in a sort of contemporary post- everything voodoo blu

A.A. Nemtheanga meint zu 'Where Greater Men Have Fallen': 'Irgendwann Ende 2013 setzten wir uns zusammen, um Album Nummer acht in Angriff zu nehmen. Wir zogen in einen neuen Proberaum um, wo dann erste Ideen Gestalt annahmen. Wir hielten es für angebracht, ein neues Studio und einen neuen Tontechniker zu versuchen, also wählten wir das Grouse Lodge mitten in Irland, ehe wir Gomez einspannten (Cathedral, Angelwitch, Grave Miasma), um mit uns an der Scheibe zu arbeiten.' Die Band wollte natürlich ihre typischen Markenzeichen bewahren, aber einen eher live klingenden, breiteren und schwereren Sound haben. 2014 nun stehen wir kurz vor der Veröffentlichung von PRIMORDIALs achtem Album, zu dem Nemtheanga abschließend bemerkt: 'Wir fühlen uns gestärkt, zumal wir unseren Hunger nie verloren haben, und sind dazu bereit, ein neues Kapitel unserer Geschichte aufzuschlagen!

Few bands would cause Rough Trade to toss their rulebook out the window, but upon hearing the arresting sound of two handmade EPs by London trio The Drink, the independent record store did just that - stocking an unsigned band's release for the first time in recent history.Newly signed to Melodic, The Drink are now set to intoxicate further with the arrival of Company; their gloriously inventive debut album.Collecting together those now-unavailable EPs, Company has an inimitable, wayward sound drawn from the chaos of real life. 'People and places shape the sound - I get ideas from watching people do their thing and also looking at billboards thinking that everything is fucked," says singer and guitarist Dearbhla Minogue. Without clear narratives, the lyrics have a stream-of-consciousness quality, loaded with uncanny imagery. "I try to invoke feelings of familiarity and imagery in songs because that is what I love about hearing good lyrics. For them to invoke something that you recognise and makes you feel a certain way but you're not quite sure why." The title Company explores the album's themes of what it means to be human, and being alone. "The idea of company is really interesting, why is it so important" asks Dearbhla. "The way people operate in company - and in companies - is so interesting. Groups are formed by individuals but after that they take on a life of their own."The Drink came together when Dearbhla moved to London from her hometown of Dublin and overheard drummer Daniel Fordham and bassist David Stewart practising with their former band in the warehouse she shares with other musicians. 'I used to listen to Dan and Dave in Fighting Kites and when they disbanded I took them for my own,' says Dearbhla. 'They have a way of making an odd song flow really well. It was great to realise that together we had a band sound without having to contrive it.'In the way bands such as Deerhoof are revered for their unusual sonic approach, The Drink celebrate beauty in oddness through their use of bold syncopated rhythms, strange time signatures and complex structures, via a love of artists from Joanna Newsom to The Breeders and Captain Beefheart. While many lose their sense of melodic direction labouring to create an intriguing experimental sound, on Company it never wanes through the band's boundless energy, reverberating basslines and unforgettably spontaneous fusion of American and English indie rock with Irish folk leanings. 'We don't set out to write odd songs at all.
