Mit „Wax“ schlagen die schwedischen Rocker Åskväder ein neues Kapitel auf: Erstmals ist Saga Flygare Täll als Sängerin und Gitarristin dabei. Das dritte Album verbindet bluesige Riffs, skandinavische Rock-Energie und große Hooks und richtet sich an Fans von The Hellacopters, Thundermother und Turbonegro. "As sharp as I sing, it still soothes you, doesn't it? Like a lick of ice cream?" sings Thao Nguyen on her Kill Rock Stars debut, We Brave Bee Stings and All. Whether it's intentional or not, the line describes her sound perfectly. Nguyen's rich, breathy voice -- and the way she croons, yelps, and drawls with it -- recalls Cat Power, Fiona Apple, and Sinéad O'Connor. However, these comparisons suggest that Thao is a searing, intense artist when nothing could be further from the truth: her country-tinged indie folk-pop is playfully observant, mischievous with just a hint of vulnerability. By playing against type and putting a voice that seems tailor-made for brooding into songs that are sunny and sweet, Nguyen carves out her own intriguing territory among indie folk songstresses.

On We Brave Bee Stings and All's first two songs. "Beat (Health, Life and Fire)" builds brass, ukulele, and piano to an urgent but joyous peak, while "Bag of Hammers" is as rambling as it is catchy. The interplay between Nguyen and her band, the Get Down Stay Down, is more intuitive than ever, and the album's fuller sound (courtesy of producer Tucker Martine) complements her more fully formed songs.

In fact, most of the album is so cheery that it's a good thing Nguyen's voice isn't delicate, or her music might be sickly sweet instead of fresh and engaging. Fortunately, "Feet Asleep"'s Dixieland moxie and "Geography"'s jazzy flourishes help keep the album from sounding too predictable. Even if this isn't Thao's first album, We Brave Bee Stings and All is a fine introduction to her music.

The debut album I SPLIT MY ORGAN IN TWOS by Munich indie project plainhead is a freak folk inspired rockrecord fusing key aspects of 00s experimental indie with 90s indie rock.
The organic soundscapes remind of yetto-be-refined the Microphones from the album It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water (2000). Acoustic Guitars fuse with the sound of fuzz and distortion. Clarinets and pianos can be found somewhere buried beneath the noise,
while the vocals remain dry and tired in the front. The 18-track double LP features easy-listenable songs such as the single Ghost / Smoke, short playful instrumentals named after animals and long ever-evolving operas such as River and Sunsick. Cascade was originally released oct 1993 the first single from the now highly regarded LIFEFORMS album. Cascade went on to chart in the UK top 40 at No.27 and has continued to be regarded as an early piece of classic Electronica. Twenty-seven years later FSOL rebuild and create ten new compositions inspired by the original. The familiar electronic swamp of FSOL and engineer Yage can be heard as the tracks journey through fragmented melodies of the original composition.

maya ongaku has always been searching for what exists just beyond the edge of perception. Since forming in the seaside towns surrounding Enoshima, the trio has followed a path guided less by intention than intuition, allowing songs, ideas, and experiences to emerge through a process they describe as 自然発生 (shizen hassei), spontaneous occurrence. Nothing Space Music is the deepest expression of that philosophy to date.

Written in the aftermath of several years of international touring, the album emerged from a growing desire to reconnect with silence. As stages became larger and the world around them moved faster, the band found themselves drawn toward the quieter spaces beneath it all. Bobbie Dazzle, the catsuit-sporting queen of UK Glam Rock, releases her second album, 'Star Power', via Rise Above Records.
