Ghanaian group Honny & The Bee's Band recorded 'Psychedelic Woman' for a release on Essiebons in 1973. Little is known about the group.

'Psychedelic Woman' is, as you would expect from the name, a psychedelic mid tempo groover. Punctuated with a hypnotic guitar line, percussion and a catchy sung chorus.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley & The Steneboofs - Simigwado
Breaks and grooves, underpin this upbeat call-and-response JB-esque afro-funk gem, from Ghanaian legend Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and his group The Steneboofs.

Originally released on a Capeside 45 in 1973. Ambolley released the highly sought afer 'Simigwa' LP on Essiebons in the same year.

The Bright Lights of America (2008) is the sixth studio album released by Anti-Flag. This album was different from the previous one For Blood And Empire [MOVLP1479];
it was the first to feature a string section and child choirs. The band was often criticized for this effort because it is an extreme departure from their normal musical style.
The first song released from the album was 'Good 'N' Ready', featured on Fat Wreck Chords Hanuk-Comp From the Dreidel to the Grave compilation.
In April 2008 Anti-Flag teamed up with Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and a host of roller derby girls for a video for 'The Bright Lights of America'. 'The video demonstrates the audacity and the craziness of the seemingly endless war... We're trying to get that across in a funny and interesting way.'

Our leading lady of the series, Claudia, is back once again, this time with a double A-side.
'Macumba' is taken from one of her several self-titled LP's, the one in question released in 1970 on Premier, Brazil. Sought after in its original form.

THE MOONS AT YOUR DOOR consists of 2 long tracks, 'The Moons At Your Door' and 'There Is A GraveYard That Dwells In Man' and reveals, yet again, an unexpected sidereal shift in C93's vision and voice.The vinyl edition of this album is packaged in a black gatefold sleeve, with the artwork on the outer and inner gatefold by David Tibet. The inside of the album is also printed in black. The record is pressed on opaque white vinyl. The artwork on the back of the LP sleeve differs to the artwork on the back of the CD sleeve. The CD edition of this album is packaged in a black gatefold digipak, again with artwork on all panels by David Tibet, and again with the inside of the digipak also printed in black. The artwork on the back of the CD sleeve differs to the artwork on the back of the LP This album presages the publication, in the first half of January 2016, of David Tibet's anthology, also titled The Moons At Your Door, of whom this album is the sister. The 472-page anthology, published in hardback and paperback, collects some of the supernatural stories, fairy tales and hallucinatory prose, as well as Akkadian and Coptic texts translated by him, that have most influenced his work in Current 93 and elsewhere. The book is published by Strange Attractor.

Love Tattoo is the debut solo album by Irish vocalist Imelda May, formerly of the roots outfit Blue Harlem. May has captured the attention of the United Kingdom with
its release, and for good reason. It's a striking gumbo of tough Boogie-Woogie, streetwise razor-edged Rockabilly, intimate sultry vocal Jazz, and sassy Jump Blues.
May wrote all but two of the set's 12 tracks and produced the set; she also plays the bodhran, an Irish percussion instrument from antiquity. She's surrounded herself
with an ace band that includes her husband, guitarist Darrell Higham, trumpeter Dave Priseman (who also plays flügelhorn and percussion), pianist and organist Danny McCormack, bassist Al Gare, and drummer Dean Beresford.
The tunes aren't overly arranged, the production is
minimal, and the instruments - as well as her voice - sound unembellished. Imelda May is capturing the attention of Europe for a reason; she is a rare and very exciting talent who understands the history of American roots music and knows how to use that understanding in a contemporary context without pandering.

Fear (1974) was the first of three albums for Island Records, all of which were released in a period of just over a year. During this time John Cale was also producing records for other artists, working on albums such as
Horses by Patti Smith, one of the most influential of all proto Punk records.
In addition to his lead vocals on Fear, Cale also played keyboards, guitars, viola, violin and bass, and was joined by Richard Thompson, Roxy Music's Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera, and other artists signed to Island.
'Gun' features an unusual two-man guitar solo from Manzanera and Eno, with the latter using a synthesizer to process the former's guitar playing in real-time.

Natural is the latest collaboration between musical travellers and kindred spirits Nicola Conte and Stefania Dipierro, the culmination of a relationship rooted in a shared belief in the spiritually healing powers of music. The Italian duo is set to take 2016 by storm with a sensual, sumptuous and highly accomplished record, firmly anchored in the traditions of Brazilian bossa nova, samba and jazz.

Stefania and Nicola first came together as members of the seminal 90s musical collective Fez, with Nicola leading the group. This period, one full of inspiration and discovery, laid the seeds for Natural. Though Stefania lent her enviable vocal talents to many bands over the years and Nicola went on to an illustrious production career, outside of a handful of tracks from Nicola's album Jet Sounds, it was not until now that the stars aligned again, allowing these two mercurial talents to merge their musical sensibilities once again to access the deep spirituality that is at the core of their approach to sound. Stefania's ongoing musical journey has ensured that her connection to, and understanding of jazz runs deep, as she resoundingly demonstrates throughout Natural. With Nicola once again in the production seat, the album serves as the defining showcase for her inimitable vocal talents.

Nicola first achieved international acclaim for his signature style of samba-influenced acid-jazz, which also drew inspiration from 60s and 70s Italian film soundtracks. Alongside his production work Nicola has laid out his musical vision through his guitar playing and songwriting, with numerous studio albums including 2004's Other Directions, released on Schema, a French Subsidiary of Blue Note Records. His compilation series Viagem, all 5 volumes of which have been released on Far Out, provide an insight into the sounds of the past that have inspired his music of today, a peerless collection of lost bossa and samba jazz from the swinging Brazilian 60s.

On this new collaborative release for Far Out, Conte's forward thinking production cleverly compliments and contrasts with the warmth of Dipierro's laid back inflection and gloriously rich timbres. Natural is aptly named, considering the ease with which Stefania and Nicola have re-assumed the roles of muse to one another, a musical relationship providing the deepest access to the poetry within their sound. The album's title track and first single is a perfect introduction to their world, a masterful blend of global influences in which a propulsive Afro-rhythm bolstered by a searing funk guitar, whilst soothing Rhodes chords provide a distinctly Brazilian warmth and Stefania's vocals offer up an enriching melody to soothe the heart and engage the mind. Alongside original compositions from Nicola and others, Natural also tantalisingly promises some inspired re-interpretations of classic Brazilian and jazz pieces: Trio Tenura's exemplary bossa groove A Gira and Steve Kuhn's beautiful The Meaning of Love are among the tracks respectfully imbued with an updated resonance. The scintillating blend of jazz and bossa alongside a contemporary sensibility makes for a debut collaboration. A timeless example of the special places Brazilian music can go with a beautiful voice and a smooth groove, marking out Dipierro as a natural talent of the highest order.

A. Wganda Kenya - Shaloade

Uptempo afro-latin business of the highest order.

You might recognise Wganda Kenya from our Latin 45's series; they are intact a Latin band produced by the legendary Fruko. This is a cover version of Fela Kuti's 'Shakara Oloje' originally released on Discos Fuentes in 1976, hence their inclusion here in Africa 45's.


AA. Peter King - Ajo

We have released two albums by Peter King on Mr Bongo, 'Miliki Sound' and 'Shango'.

'Ajo' is a Mr Bongo favourite. Reminiscent of Begining Of The End's 'Funky Nassau', it's sweet, vocal driven afro-funk with killer uplifting horn sections, changes and drum breaks.

Originally appeared on King's 'Omo Lewa' LP from 1976, originals of which are nigh on impossible to find for a reasonable price now.

International Feel, the much-respected Balearic imprint introduces the first release in a new series of mini-albums from Len Leise. Consisting of six to eight tracks, the concept allows each artist to show more of who they are musically without the constraints of the traditional album format. It will followed by a beautiful release from Canada's CFCF , an ambient album from Jan Schulte and the return of Gatto Fritto .
Len Leise is Australian, that we know for a fact. Does he exist Maybe in the mind of his creator. He has released three beautiful EP's to date and there is a very natural musical theme to his music, one that is built around emotion, times and spaces. His first long-form work 'Lingua Franca' shows the varied palette of music he was listening to, from ambient jazz through to afro disco. The likes of Yasuaki Shimizu, Jake Solo and Ike White. Rare names for a rare sound.
'Lingua Franca' is all about travel and progression. Both from one place to the next and an emotional migration. An imaginary journey based on real experiences - though as with his name - what is real and what is not doesn't matter. Morocco appears in the deep ride of 'Forlorn Fields' , Spain in 'Leaving Llucmajor' and Russia in 'Route To Reutov '. Ever on the move, trade language is necessary - a 'Lingua Franca' . India finds its way here via the chimes of ' Madala Maksim ', Brazil in the afro disco sound of ' O Camino ' and Africa in the slow thoughtful pace of ' El Modelo '.
Sometimes a visual brings the music to life, sometimes a thought or feeling. It's music to keep and get lost in, a spiritual ride across the world's paths and percussions. These sounds are true to Len Leise and 'Lingua Franca' has been designed to delve inside his mind. A spread of wings, changes of pace and a chance to indulge in those wispy, smoke-filled thoughts.
Artwork comes courtesy of The Material Collective , responsible for International Feel's recent switch back to full cover art. Each mini-Úalbum will have a similar look and evolve into a diverse series of interlinked journeys through the sonic spectrum of artist's imagination.

Following previous releases on labels such as Ghost Box and Deep Distance; Listening Center return with the mighty 'Aural Assignments'. A collection of stripped down, stark electronic pieces recorded in April 2013 and originally intended as sketches for the album 'Cycles / Other Phenomena'. A limited set of analogue synths and drum machines were used exclusively, and each track was recorded in a single take, directly to 2 track cassette tape or microcassette.


The music here was realized out of a desire to erase some boundaries between the processes of recording and performing electronic music, avoiding extensive production techniques, and placing the emphasis instead on a more simultaneous, inclusive, and improvisatory approach.


They can be viewed as unfinished pieces, damaged themes for grey afternoons, or spontaneous electronic deliberations, but each has a feeling of unique momentum, each an etching in time.

AA. Doris Monteiro - E Isso Ai
The instantly recognisable, original version of the classic and much covered 'E Isso Ai'. Beautiful laid back samba/MPB, drenched in horns and percussion.
Taken from her 1971 Odeon LP.
This is the second time the hugely prolific Doris Monteiro has featured in our Brazil 45's series; previously with 'Se Vocé Quiser Mas Sem Bronquear' on number 9.

Japanese composer and prodcer Susumu Yokota's much-loved third album for The Leaf Label, licensed from his own Skintone label and originally released in September 2000
Sakura ('cherry blossoms') was one of the label's first significant successes, achieving tens of thousands of sales worldwide almost entirely by word of mouth
Leaf released six Yokota albums in all, between 1999 and 2002
The album takes on a new significance in light of Yokota's passing in March 2015. There have been heartfelt tributes to his work from all corners of the music world
Initially released on vinyl in an edition of only 1000 copies, the LP has been out of print for many years and is much in demand

ToiToiToi* is the operating name of one Sebastian Counts, also based in Berlin - although this identity is uncertain too. All that we really know is that this is the musical side-project of a well- respected conceptual artist who is happy to be subsumed into the anonymity of Ghost Box's imaginary world.

Two witty, electronic diversions featuring squashy plasticine synthesizers, spectral voices of blurred origin, and haphazard percussion (likely to appeal to fans of Roj).

Lovely additions to the Other Voices series from an artist who's sure to be appearing on Ghost Box again soon.

* "Toi toi toi" as German speakers and opera fans will know, is a traditional wish of good luck, equivalent to "break a leg". Pronounced "toy- toy-toy".

die ganz große Karriere vorzubereiten. (Hatten die überhaupt noch Zeit für die Schule) Dass es mit der
Karriere klappen wird, ja muss, steht außer Frage. Ihr gleichnamiges Debüt bietet nicht nur alles, was ein
gutes Rockalbum seit je her auszeichnet - wütende Riffs, Groove, verzerrte Gitarren, Refrains zum Mitsingen,
überraschende Hooks, Ohrwurmmelodien, treibende Beats usw. -, sondern auch das gewisse, letztlich nicht
erklärbare Etwas. Nennen wir es der Einfachheit halber das richtige Gespür für den magischen Sound. In
diesem Zusammenhang an die White Stripes zu denken, ist nicht allein aufgrund derselben Instrumentierung
angebracht. Anders ausgedrückt: "Yoko And The Oh No's" zieht den Hörer in einen Sog, aus dem es kein

Camouflage zählen international zu den erfolgreichsten Vertretern der elektronischen Popmusik und haben

Secondhand Daylight is the second studio album by English post-Punk band Magazine, released in 1979. One single, 'Rhythm of Cruelty', was released from the album.

The new Magazine lineup was stable until mid-1980 and consisted of Howard Devoto (vocals), John McGeoch (guitar and saxophone), Barry Adamson (bass), Dave Formula (keyboards) and newly recruited drummer John Doyle. The first release with Doyle had been the 'Give Me Everything' single from November 1978.

The album was produced and engineered by Colin Thurston. The album was Thurston's first production job; significantly, he had worked as an engineer for David Bowie's Heroes and Iggy Pop's The Idiot and would later produce The Party's Over by Talk Talk.

Life is the third studio album of Sly and the Family Stone, released in 1968. Unlike its predecessor Dance To The Music [MOVLP1402], Life was not a commercial success, although it has received mostly positive reviews from music critics over the years.

Many of its songs, including 'M'Lady', 'Fun', 'Love City', as well as the title track, became popular staples in the Family Stone's live show. A middle ground between the fiery A Whole New Thing and the more commercial Dance To The Music, Life features very little use of studio effects, and is instead more driven by frontman Sly Stone's compositions.

Much of Life has been heavily sampled for Hip Hop and Electronica recordings, particularly Gregg Errico's drum solo on 'Love City'. The opening riff on 'Into My Own Thing' was sampled for Fatboy Slim's 2001 hit 'Weapon of Choice'.
