Pop & Rock Vinyl New Releases - News

The Cannonball Adderley's famous Jazz classic beautifully covered into Afro Caribbean Jazz masterpiece. This precious piece digs into depth of the Jamaican music to show unique side of the history. Due to their regular appearances in hotels at Montego Bay, it is reasonable to understand that the band had a range of repertoire other than Ska. The MC's hype heard right after the riff interprets the excitement of the session and creates a great atmosphere. Matching the original release, backed with a prime Jamaican Soul by talented Busty Brown who later recorded with Lee Perry.

The Celestials trademarked imminent sound can be heard in this elegiac killer Ska instrumental!! The bang on titled 'Golden Horns' representing the music itself. If they were ever based in Kingston, they may have had more opportunities for recordings which might have changed the history of Ska music. Such a great band indeed. Although it's still quite a tune, it may sound a little monotonous on the flip side, showing Thelwell's personal affection for Carlos Malcolm's band.

Record Kicks proudly presents 2 scorchers from The Bluebeaters on a super limited edition 45 vinyl. On the A side the new single taken from their latest LP "Everybody Knows", a storming early ska cover up version of Bruce Springsteen's Hungry Heart. The Bluebeaters took the Boss's classic hit back to Studio One in 1965 and delivers you another irresistible hit! On the B side expect the unexpected, Kraftwerk's The Model has never sounded so cool thanks to the BB's Jamaican Ska treatment.

Active since 1994 with 4 studio albums for V2 and Universal Music and 2 gold records under the belt, The Bluebeaters during the last 20 years of their career have headlined festivals like Rototom Sun Splash and International Ska Fest in London. Amongst their fans, there are folks like David Rodigan, Gaz Mayall and the legendary late lamented Lloyd Knibb (The Skatalites).

An essential spin for Jamaican collectors and djs.

Historical funky, soul, .... tunes in original , extended and re-mastered edition. Let's go to Disco '70 !!!!

Corporation, Quantic, D'Angelo, EasyStar Allstars, Rudimental, Bilal, SBTRKT.

gemacht hat, die EP "Your Good Fortune".
ihn ostwärts nach New York und New Jersey.
In seiner reinsten Form macht Son Little amerikanische
Musik.

Dazu erklingen Folk-Minimalismen ("Hayonedop"), schräg hängende Funkyness ("Fünf Tote in Blablabla")

Queimada"-edited in the USA as "Burn!" -is a film directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, released in 1969 and almost entirely filmed in Colombia; the two main actors are the world famous Marlon Brando (soon to be the main character in "The Godfather") and the unknown Evaristo Márquez, a true indigenous strongly wanted by Pontecorvo on the set, to make his fiction even more realistic.

The realization of the soundtrack was commissioned to the untiring Morricone, here assisted by conductor Bruno Nicolai and Alessandro Alessandroni choristers, the latter featured in particular in the epic opening track "Abolição" and "Hosanna". Orchestrations are still present, but the distinguishing feature of this work is a virtually exclusive and obsessive use of acoustic tribal percussions, and a Hammond organ that sometimes adds an almost police/detective movies feeling.

This work is almost full of dramatic tones, for a film that still casts a strong message against colonialism, but more generally against wars, oppression and exploitation.

This is an exclusive reissue, for an album that waited 45 years to be repressed on vinyl! Colored vinyl edition (orange & clear transparent mixed) with many bonus tracks, enclosed in a cover gatefold with a completely renewed artwork and a 30x30cm poster with film flyers and lobby cards reproductions.

From the new liner note by Paul Myers: 'For me,'
says Susanna Hoffs, 'making these recordings just
felt like two music nerds getting together and having a
really good time playing and recording songs that we
worship.' Hoffs, a founding member of The Bangles,
is fondly recalling the period between 2006 and 2013
when she and co-conspirator Matthew Sweet
released three full volumes of their Under The Covers
series, on which the two teamed up to pay homage to
many of the singles (and album deep cuts) from the
60s, 70s, and 80s which informed and shaped their
own musical destinies.
- The Beatles, Dylan, Fairport Convention, Neil
Young, The Beach Boys, The Who, Grateful Dead,
Fleetwood Mac, Carly Simon, The Ramones, The
Clash, The Pretenders, The Smiths and Prince are
amongst the 57 acts covered. 'They're kind of a love
letter,' says Hoffs, 'from us as fans. They're like the
equivalent of an old school mixtape that you would
give someone you're crazy about. There's something
incredibly romantic about it.'
- With guest appearances from Lindsey Buckingham,
Steve Howe, Van Dyke Parks and Dhani Harrison,
this 60 song package contains all three albums and
fifteen previously-hard to-get bonus tracks cut to 6 x
180-gram heavyweight vinyl LPs for the very first time
on the format also including printed inner bags and a
deluxe rigid slipcase.

Great loud-pressed vinyl EP featuring a superlative selection of Brazilian boogie monsters from the early 80s. Opens with Brenda's amazing modern funk club killer 'Natureza Viva', originally released on an impossible-to-find 7' and produced by Don Beto (of 'Nossa Imaginação' LP fame). Next is another great boogie cut 'Alegria No Ar' by Rosana plucked from her highly sought-after self-titled album released in 1983. Recorded with some of the best exponents of the early 80s Brazilian boogie scene including Jorjão from Banda Black Rio, Azymuth's Mamão plus legendary duo Lincoln Olivetti and Robson Jorge, this is pure bass-heavy dancefloor dynamite. Flip over for the wonderful 'Copacabana Sadia' by Junior Mendes, a track also touched by the hand of the prolific Olivetti who was in charge of arrangement here producing an elegant slice of upbeat smooth jazz-funk. Title track of Mendes' mega-rare 1982 LP, this cut simply oozes class. Last but not least is 'Vem Fazer Glu-Glu' which takes the Earth, Wind and Fire classic 'Let's Groove' and ramps up the Latino disco feel taking it to a whole new dimension. Great collection - don't miss!

Great Nyabinghi sounds from Japan, a limited 7" edition unavailable outside of the country until now. Distributed by Dub Store Records.

Available on CD and LP - comes with Japanese obi strip.

Crucial recordings of the early 60's multifaceted Jamaican Music. Funny and sharp, with the catchiest tunes: this is foundation music to move your feet! Calypsos Down Jamaica Way is the significant piece to discover howJamaican music was created by the fusion of the Jamaican indigenous Mento and popular Calypso.

The album starts off with the moody instrumental tune 'Good Bye to Rome' which is perfectly harmonized by the excellent performances of Sugar Belly's bamboo sax and Charlie Organaire's harmonica and banjo. The flute freely plays to a pure Mento beat on the next number 'Go Fife Go'. The love song 'Yours' follows and Count Owen sings smoothly on 'Lawd Some Men Could A Smart' to close the A-side.

On the flip, Owen delivers the finest vocal with his specialty, Cha-Cha and Mento fusion, in 'Careless Hands'. Other songs include 'Weed', the 'Melody D'Amour' song adding a bit of European seasoning, and 'Kingston Town' describes Kingston's moody atmosphere. The Calypso style roots chanting 'Out The Fire', and a pure traditional Mento vocal on 'The Last Watch' close the album. The songs are rich in variety, and the techniques of instrument playing are fluent. All songs are presented in high quality sound with Federal's highly equipped Hi-Fi technology.

With the full respect to the memory of Sir Coxsone, this is the Ultimate Collector's Single Series for all Studio One fans, recorded especially from the original master tapes owned by the 13 Brentford Road including some previously unreleased rare material.

---

The astonishing take of previously unpublished Rocksteady - reveals new facts about Studio One's Ska and Rocksteady! A few years after the Skatalites recorded the famous "Freedom Sounds", the band has reconstructed as the Soul Brothers and this is the astonishing, previously unpublished take of them playing the Rocksteady version. By the look of the master-tape, it has never even planned to be released as a single and kept especially for the LP release, which might have meant to be the Soul Brothers version of the Skatalites' iconic "Ska Authentic" album. This seriously rare recording is a must-check for everyone from the beginners of the Jamaican music to the Ska masters. Though as might be expected, we may never be able to measure the depth of the foundation studio.

The Wailers have recorded a number of tunes for Studio One, however this release still gets talked a lot as its specialty. Recorded just before they left Studio One, this double A-sided single includes two of the best tunes lead by Bunny Wailer himself. It's even possible to hear in this excellent music that the time has come to ripen for the band to see the vision of starting up their own Wail 'N' Soul 'M' label. Both sides are identical to its original release.

This VP Records / Greensleeves X Dub Store Records exclusive 7" release is a double A-sider by Clint Eastwood & General Saint. The A-side features one of the most popular 80's Dancehall classics and one of their biggest hit, Stop That Train, and AA-side features their another hit Monkey Man!

Dennis Manuel Brown belongs to that élite band of reggae artists who have succeeded in achieving true international stardom. Often hailed today as 'Bob Marley's favorite singer' Dennis Brown had managed not only to achieve elusive chart success with 'Money In My pocket' but has also regularly performed in the United Kingdom and Europe.

This album captures the artist at their peak of his performing ability during his considerable run of chart successes in 1979. He performed with the outstanding 'We The People' band made up of the cream of the Jamaican session world including Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, and Lloyd Parkes. The tour was fraught with problems not least of which was the enormous financial burden on promoter and record company alike caused by the overheads involved in moving more than a dozen people throughout Europe and is probably best illustrated by the fact that every one of the musicians missed their flight from Kingston!

In the midst of this chaos the tranquility of Montreux and its superb annual festival was a welcome relief and became a special moment as these recording clearly show. Dennis played two shows that night sharing the bill with Peter Tosh and it was only too clear that Dennis Brown had arrived in the minds of the European audiences. The second show continued way into the night and ended with both artists and their musicians on stage together.

This album has captured the essence of those concerts and as such is a classic not only for reggae fans but for all contemporary music audiences.

"Dub Is All I Got".
Wer will, kann

"Acoustic Spaces" is the title of Gabriele Bellini's latest album. Almost completely acoustic - classic guitar is its main instrument - and devoid of lyrics, this record includes anyway one track achieved together with the artists of JMP (jam movie project), Claire Biant Nesti (soprano) and Michel Agostini (drums and percussions). 10 new songs, totally written, composed, recorded and mixed in the time frame of one single month inside the magic climate of "la Fucina Studio", with the support of Giacomo "Jac" Salani's skillful and unique directing competences. Compared to all the previous outputs, it has been an unusual working way: the outcome of a real "carpe diem", the complete seizure of a great inspirational moment, which place's charm acted as a first role, making real this bizarre, odd and inventive musical context.
