30.04.2015

Reissue of German cassette release as vinyl after nearly 40 years. The songs are from the various singles and the debut LP. The title song 'Yuh Yuh' is from Selda's 1977 'Dostum Dostum'/'Yuh Yuh' single. Most of the songs are performed with the Anatolian Rock super group Dadaslar who are known for their works with Ersen. The group consists of Fehiman Ugurdemir (guitars and synthesizer, former Cem Karaca & Kardaslar guitarist), Ozkan Ugur ((bass, former Baris Manço guitarist) and Mehmet Gözüpek (former drummer of Bunalim) and creates a powerful groove with their psychedelic arrangements.

Tribo Massahi - Estrelando Embaixador

EU PRESSING!! Originally released in 1972 in very limited numbers. A trip of an album rich in percussive energy and African chant - made in Brazil! The sounds of continents colliding in a young, funky & soul fuelled 70s ....this is one is on full burn from start to finish ! This the only album by Massáhi Tribe and it became notorious for it's unique sound and the almost complete lack of information about its creators. Check!
the Label say:

' This is a sound made in Brazil. All the members are Brazilians.
But the goal is to show the young african music, with all his distinctions that features the origin of the black continent's music.
In this record we launch several curious things. Starting from a rhythmic draw, based on the camel steps that match the division 4/4, on the same line of YÁ YÁ YÁ and SOUL MUSIC, which was given the name of OGA, this, because in Lagos, Nigeria's capital, is an intimate treatment among friends. There, a man feels good when compared to a OGA (camel).
Purposely and proudly we launch this new and different LP, not only dedicated to all record collectors in the world but also to all party lovers, nights in club, and even for who's loving, because on both sides, there aren't intervals. It's a contagious and crazy rhythm."

This is how, in 1971, Embaixador and Maestro João Negrão described the record on his back cover. These words did not aged a bit.

We are very happy and proud to announce, 44 years later, the first 100% official reissue of this genuine work that became legendary and considered as the "Holy Grail" of Brazilian music among collectors around the world.'

The Bombay Royale - Wild Stallion Mountain

Get ready for white light on white wax, baby. Spinning your way at 45 rpm, The Bombay Royale's latest piece of retro-Bollywood-freakadelic-disco is not powered so much by the forces of nature, as it is by forces beyond nature. You may say "Eurovision on acid in Mumbai," but we say "Wild Stallion Mountain." On the flip side is Khubsoorat Bewafa, a dark, pulsing, late night tale of treacherous hearts. Kalyanji and Anandji meets Blondie at the Heartbreak Hotel. A side and B side, light and dark, are balanced to create a harmonious whole.

On the subject of Wild Stallion Mountain, Bengali Mystic Sri Shanti Bhattacharya says the following: When a heart yearns for something it cannot name, there are many ways to God, many vehicles by which the seeker may travel: a light beam, a cosmic chariot, a whispered mantra in a quiet mind, a DRTC bus. In an elevated state of consciousness you find yourself in a wilderness of towering peaks, emerald forests, flowing streams and sparkling mirror balls, where the wind caresses your hair. Free from the wheel of suffering, you are lost and you are found. Gazing into the pool, the euphoria rising in your chest, the heart of the wild stallion beats strong within you. The touch of polyester excites you. You know that there is more, that you can go deeper. Be ready to answer the knock of adventure. Be ready to ride. Climb that mountain. There is no way down.

Tom is conducting the orchestra with the participation of Radames Gnattali (piano), Vinicius de Moraes (words, poetry), Elizeth Cardoso (voice) and Os Cariocas (voices).

Angelo Noce Santoro - For You

First ever LP/CD reissue of this private Dutch album from 1979: a latin-funk-psych-prog trip featuring groovy jazzy flute, superb acoustic / electric guitars, funky rhythm section, exotic percussion and some cool Oriental / Thai / Brazilian vibes.

Angelo Noce Santoro is a guitar player with over forty-five years of musical career. A founding member of legendary psych-prog band Cosmic Dealer, Angelo has recorded and released albums under his own name and he's also behind projects like Palmeira (the first Dutch band playing Brazilian music), Santoro Brothers and Oriental Guitars among many others. His unique guitar playing, which incorporates surf, psychedelic, jazz and Oriental influences, has received praising from connoisseurs of obscure instrumental sounds such as Jello Biafra, who got in touch with Angelo after discovering one of his solo albums in a second-hand shop in the 80s.

For You' was Angelo's first solo effort, released as a private pressing in 1979 on ANS, his own label. Angelo played bass, acoustic & electric guitars, flute and percussion. He was joined by ace flute player Steven Bishop, drummer Herman Muller and Lodewijk Hulsman on acoustic guitar. Most of the tracks were written by Angelo prior to 1979, with some of them dating back to the early 70s when he was with Cosmic Dealer.

Kamuran Akkor - Kamuran Akkor

Turkey's recent musical history is littered with bottled blondes who put on a lot of eyeliner, made a few singles & then disappeared. And since the mid-1970s, those twin queens Ajda Pekkan and Sezen Aksu have maintained a semi-rivalry while bulldozing their way over pop charts & sales counters. Piles of Turkish psych & folk reissues have hit the west over the past few years, and yet how many have given the luscious ladies of Anatolia their due So go beyond Selda, and get your gal power on. It's time to steam up your windows with this foxy arabesque singer who's a real-life Stevie Nicks next-door.

Waka waka funk rhythm guitar, sweet little organs, pumping bass, winging & buzzy synths, electric baglama, syrupy disco strings, and Akkor's little swallowed yodels... It's all here on Istanbul Plak singles released from 1971-75.

Whether she's covering European hits that have Turkish lyrics retrofitted, or ghost voicing a musical scene in a high-profile movie, Akkor often sings like outbursts of tears or frenzy are just beyond her words. And seeing how she always played second fiddle to her classier, more famous sister Gönül, maybe Kâmuran just felt like a little drama was in order, mmm

You might have caught a couple of scant cuts on compilations like "Turkish Freakout Vol. 2" or "Istanbul 70", but there's way more to discover, and now you can.

Little Free Rock - Nirvanating Nervesounds

Psychedelic hard-rock featuring the explosive fuzz-wah guitar of Peter Illingworth (ex-David John & The Mood).

Little Free Rock were an underground British power-trio which evolved from heavy-mod-psych band Purple Haze. In 1969, the band released their only album for the Transatlantic label. A rather disappointing effort for the band and their fans, as the ultra-clean production did not show the real, powerful sound of the power-trio.

Nirvanating Nervesounds' collects previously unreleased sessions for an aborted Little Free Rock second album from 1971, produced by Robert Stigwood, plus tracks from their early incarnation as Purple Haze, taken from an ultra-rare demo acetate from 1969.

The '71 tracks were recorded when the band had just incorporated an African percussionist to their line-up, Lord' Eric Carboo. Also, ex-Killing Floor bass player John Taylor had replaced original member Frank Newbold. This new line-up shines on tracks like the terrific psych-funk sounding Money On Your Mind', full of drum breaks and frenzied wah-wah guitar.

The '69 recordings are taken from the only known copy of a demo acetate recorded in 1969, when the band had just changed their name from Purple Haze to Little Free Rock. Featuring some songs which were later re-recorded and included on the Little Free Rock Transatlantic album but appearing here in a superior, raw-sounding form. This is a killer find for anyone into late 60s British mod-psych. A fuzzed-out power trio which will surprise anyone into obscure psych/freakbeat acts like Adam's Recital, Five Day Rain, The Attack...

For many people, the recordings included here are the best thing Little Free Rock ever did and show how their first album should've really sounded.

Most of these tracks were previously released on CD under the Time is of no consequence' name but they appear here in a newly remastered, superior sounding form, most noticeable on the acetate tracks (no surface noise here this time!).

Palmeira - Palmeira

Palmeira

PHARAWAY SOUNDS
22.06.2015

Can you imagine a Dutch band playing top-notch 60s-70s sounding Brazilian music

Originally released as a private pressing in 1983, Palmeira's only album will please any lover of bossa, jazzy and latin-fusion sounds.

Beautiful femme vocals, superb musicianship featuring the awesome lead electric guitar of Jeanette van der Pligt, self-penned songs and choice covers of Caetano Veloso, João Gilberto and Rita Lee among others.

Palmeira was a Brazilian styled band formed by Angelo Noce Santoro (ex-Cosmic Dealer) along with some Dutch, North American and Brazilian musicians. The group existed from 1979 till 1985, playing lots of gigs at jazz and night clubs in Holland. In 1983 they released their only album in a private edition of 500 copies on Angelo's ANS label. A cult item for fans of Bossa-Jazz, it was first reissued as a limited edition in Japan, now long out of print. Here's a new reissue featuring no less than six bonus tracks on our CD edition. These bonus (one more over the previous Japanese CD release) come from Angelo's tape archive and all of them were recorded the same year as the album, including some great covers of giants like Edu Lobo and Jorge Ben among others.

Tal National's dazzling follow-up album, 'Zoy Zoy' is a distillation of their traditional roots and tireless drive into pure joy and celebration. The songs are intense yet sophisticated, combining original numbers with new arrangements of West African folk songs. The band speaks French, but use the American expression "very rock and roll" quite seriously, implying their awareness that the loud guitars and bewildering rhythmic complexity separate them from their West African peers. Using as a backbone the sound that Tal National breathe - sheer electricity and stunning virtuosity weaving a web of melody and rhythm, the flesh of the album is a response to Tal National's growing stature at home in Niger and their exposure to audiences in other parts of the world.

Anthony Meynell & Squire - Hits From 3000 Years Ago

Originally released in 1981 it was the debut release of Hi Lo Records—a label born to issue the recordings by Squire. At first launched as an Anthony Meynell solo album, it compiles 14 numbers, including some Squire classic anthems, written by Anthony between 1979 and 1981. These songs had become stage favourites of the Squire repertoire, and on the versions included here they can be heard in their rawest naked demo form.
Though the songs never enjoyed the full studio production they perhaps deserved at the time, it remains pop, dancy and crystal cool in its sparseness! It keeps its 60's influences and the 'understated' production is akin to early Who and Kinks albums. Maybe by avoiding the 80's studio gimmickry that makes the era sound so dated, the songs retain a timeless quality. In the end, the original sleeve notes sum it all up wonderfully..." - Anthony Meynell

If you like The Who, The Kinks, The Byrds, Big Star, The Jam, Secret Affair or The Chords, you'll love Squire!

The LP was later reissued as Anthony Meynell and Squire, with a new pop-art sleeve which is the one we have decided to use for this new reissue. It comes with remastered sound and features a colour insert with photos and detailed liner notes written by Anthony Meynell himself. Limited to 500 copies only.

Popol Vuh - Nosferatu

Popol Vuh

Nosferatu

12inchLPS161
WAH WAH RECORDS
01.08.2015

The story of the Nosferatu soundtrack editions through the years appears a little caotic. Several editions, with several sleeves and completely different tracklists have appeared in different countries. What we tried to offer here is the definitive edition of Popol Vuh's works for this fantastic Werner Herzog 1979 tribute to the old Murnau classic. When asked for a new soundtrack for Herzog's project, Florian Fricke and Daniel Fichelscher came out with a magnificent album that once again, as it had happened with Hosianna Mantra, opened new paths to follow. The album, although having been recorded with the movie in mind, was not titled Nosferatu. Instead it was released as Brüder des Schattens - Söhne des Lichts, which can be translated as "Brother Of Darkness - Son Of Light". It first came out in 1978 featuring amazing new age / ambient escapades based on repetitive passages and instrumentation of incredible beauty, recorded with the help of Al Gromer (Amon Düül) on sitar, Bob Eliscu (Between) on oboe, Ted de Jong on tamboura plus a complete church choir ensemble from Munich. Brüder des Schattens..., also issued in other editions as Nosferatu, makes disc one on this gorgeous double LP set.

Disc two of the Wah Wah edition features the LP that was originally released as the Nosferatu Original Sound Track album, also known as On The Way To A Little Way. A 1978 release, although it contained material recorded prior to that date. Right in the middle of the film production, Herzog felt he needed more music and asked Fricke for obscure, scary material. He searched the Popol Vuh archives and compiled the great collection that Nosferatu / On The Way... is. It came out a varied selectionç where older Moog tracks mix with more reflexive material that already gives clues of what's to come in Brüder des Schattens... Nevertheless, despite all the variety -or maybe thanks to it,- Nosferatu / On The Way To... turned out to be a fantastic, classic Popol Vuh album. We have added one bonus track previously unreleased in vinyl format.

Squire - Get Smart!

Squire

Get Smart!

12inchWMPR002
WAH WAH RECORDS
01.06.2015

Released in 1983, Get Smart! was made when Squire returned to the live circuit after a sabbatic period. The album showed a more ellaborated production, and influences broadened after hours of listening to the LPs The Beach Boys "Today", The Beatles "Revolver" or The Byrds "Younger Than Yesterday". Sophisticated structures and vocal arrangements were brought in, and Meynell also added a high dose of Rickenbacker 12-string sounds. A horn section and a slightly psychedelic feel are present here and there, but the guys managed to keep the sound as fresh and fun as they are expected to.
To some extent, Get Smart was planned as the album where we gave ourselves permission to indulge our fantasy of being proper recording artistes. The album was conceived as a whole and planned out meticulously from demo stage to final master. The project had started with Kevin and Jon, recording simple demos of all the songs with handclaps and guitar at my house, later going to a rehearsal studio to arrange the horn parts, provided by Stuart Prosser of Rye & the Quarter Boys, who I'd met also selling his records into shops in Carnaby Street, like me!" - Anthony Meynell

If you like The Who, The Kinks, The Byrds, Big Star, The Jam, Secret Affair or The Chords, you'll love Squire!

It comes with remastered sound and features a colour insert with photos and liner notes written by Anthony Meynell himself. Limited to 500 copies only.

Squire - Something New, Something Borrowed - The Fan Club Album

The Fan Club Album was issued on November 1982. Housed in a plain white sleeve with just rubber stamps printing on front, it featured different studio / demo versions of Squire songs, coupled with a live recorded B-side that captured the sound and excitement of an 'on stage' performance. It was thought this way to offer the fans who lived far—and had no chances to see the band onstage—a close idea of what was a sweaty, smokey, rough live gig. Squire had a registered fan club membership of over 1500 members by those days, and this LP was originally only available through the fan club.
The Fan Club album was a chance to share with fans songs that would have remained overlooked were if not for them, and for that I'm eternally grateful!" - Anthony Meynell

Squire - The Singles Album

As Anthony Meynell says on the notes to this album's reissue, "Squire started life as a singles band, and the opportunity of releasing an album did not arise until we had released 4 singles (Get Ready To Go, Walking Do The Kings Road, The Face of Youth Today and My Mind Goes Round In Circles). Such was the backlog of unrecorded songs, there did not seem any point in repeating the singles on the albums, as every separate release was an opportunity to record a new song!", so the band's policy was not to include the same takes used as singles in their albums, and here they are in the way they were meant to be heard when dee-jayed at the club allnighters, just as they appeared on their singles.

"By 1983 and release of the Get Smart album, we had released a further two singles (No Time Tomorrow and Girl On A Train), making six in total, but most had been deleted and were un-available. Even the recent ones had sold out of stock, and re-pressing an old single was viewed as a missed opportunity of releasing a new single! So this was the driving force behind releasing the Singles Album. A compilation of all the Squire singles would make a phenomenal album, and as the 'B' sides were usually as strong as the 'A' sides, there was already enough material for a whole album."- Anthony Meynell

Guess What - Al Khawarizmi

Cosmo-Psychedelico-Mystery duo Guess What return with their 3rd album! After Yuri Gagarin and the imaginary Giallo films, it's now about Al-Khawarizmi, an astronomer from the 8th Century who invented Algebra and studied the Solar system.
The London/France-based duet explored Middle-Eastern harmonies and rhythms, staying true to their love for 60's and 70's grooves, yet introducing a new, more modern touch with a parcimonious use of drum sequences, samples and various synthesizers.
From the heavy belly-dancy beats of the title track "Al-Khawarizmi" to the fragile sounds of the trumpet-melodica lead in "Sun and Moon", Guess What are drawing the musical portrait of a man who lived a distant and fascinating era. Not only did they take inspiration from strict Arabic Folk and Pop, but also from Persian, Indo-Pakistani, North-African heritages, which somehow all link to the history and culture that result from Al-Khawarizmi's time.
As well as being broadly played by DJ's across Europe (Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium), Guess What have an active live career, they have performed in almost every European country their explosive set wearing masks and turbans...

Yannis Kyriakides & Andy Moor - A Life Is A Billion Heartbeats

A life is A Billion Heartbeats', continues Yannis Kyriakides & Andy Moor's exploration and mining of the rich and mysterious terrain of Greek Rebetika music from early 20th century. Their first release of this project (simply entitled 'Rebetika') was for the most part taken from a live recording at the CCA, Glasgow in 2006. For that, Yannis had created processed versions of Andy's favourite Rebetika tunes which served as a matrix or palette onto which both musicians then improvised using electric guitar, live sampling and electronics. In this new set of songs they have revisited similar elements but with a new approach in the combination and juxtaposition of rebetika elements with their own distinct sonic explorations. Since they have been performing this set for several years now, the songs and improvisations on this LP have grown and expanded in repertoire and range of expression, giving more space for rhythmic and hypnotic elements to come to the fore. The music travels from more composed and arranged renditions of the old tunes, to completely improvised pieces that try to capture a sense of the gesture and tonalities of the source music, albeit with a contemporary edge. The material derives again from the golden period of Rebetika music, the late 20's and early 30's, including voices such as Rita Abatzi, Markos Vamvakaris, Giorgos Batis and the great guitarist and singer Kostas Bezos. The title of the LP 'A life is a Billion Heartbeats' alludes to the transient sense of life found in their songs, and of the many of the musicians in the underground of Greek life in those turbulent times. This release marks the beginning of special one off collaborations between Discrepant (UK) and Unsounds(NL) to produce vinyl editions of the Unsounds catalogue. From the coastal cities of Accra and Cape Coast, basked in a tropical sound heavily influenced by highlife, to the semi-Saharan cities of Tamalé and Bolgatanga (part of a self-proclaimed 'Islamic Funk Belt') via the central city of Kumasi, Analog Africa has criss-crossed Ghana in search of rare tracks for the Afrobeat Airways series for this second installment in the series. Check!
Following the success of the first instalment in 2009, Analog Africa is presents the second volume - a selection of 13 ultra-rare tracks composed by some of the musical giants who had created a movement that rocked the West African nation throughout the '70s: legendary singer K. Frimpong; Nana Ampedu (leader of the mighty African Brothers Band); Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and his superb guest appearance with The Complex Sounds; afrobeat star Ebo Taylor, backing his son in an unreleased track called 'Children Don't Cry'; the enigmatic Rob and his unique blend of twisted afrofunk; innovative drummer De Frank; and Uppers International, with their raw Islamic funk style. More obscure artists such as Los Issufu and his Moslems, Waza Afrika 76 and Tony Sarfo and his Funky Afrosibi make northern hemisphere debuts, adding to a rich list of Ghanaian artists whose music could be transferred seamlessly to any dancefloor in the world

Onom Agemo & The Disco Jumpers - Cranes And Carpets

Berlin-based quintet Onom Agemo & the Disco Jumpers follow up their 7" single - 2 Feet / Kibili - with an album of poly-rhythmic afro grooves, sax and psyched-out synths. The group has developed a unique groove and style of playing, constructing a collection of eight songs, that throws together tight and funky influences from
Morocco and Ethiopia with crunchy analogue synths, spacey organs and effects, and fluid sax and flute lines for a sound that's all their own. The LP is a collection of compositions by traveling sax man JohannesSchleiermacher, inspired by his journeys through the world. The band even travelled to Morocco for playing and recording with a quartet of percussionists/ singers in the Issawa tradition, a Sufi Trance Brotherhood in central Morocco. Onom Agemo and the Disco Jumpers have been playing together for years, and it shows. Taking Schleiermacher's compositions, the group ehearse the songs andplay them live to finalize the arrangement before recording the tracks to different 4-track tape machines, mostly at drummer Bernd Oezsevim's rehearsal space. Take the track - Cool Runnings' for example: locked in the groove, the intertwined saxand synth melody moves up and down the Anichihoye scale. Not to be confusedwith the comedy of the same title, the track is named after a bar in Berlin Friedrichshain, where friends of the band put on their night Tropical Timewarp. This interlocking of groove and melody is a signature element, and also inspired the title of the album. Cranes and Carpets alludes to changing patterns, and howthe parts of a wider whole can work together in synchronicity. Combine an almost telepathic group intuition with the fact that Schleiermacher also engineered and produced the record, and the pieces start to add up to why the Disco Jumpers sound like they do.It's an authentic mix of North African rhythms and modes, live jazz musicianship and analogue synths that's reminiscent of electronic African pioneers like William Onyeabor and Manu Dibango as much as modern ensembles like The Heliocentrics. While the album sounds like it could have been discovered on a dusty old tape down a Marrakesh marketplace, it has a modern twist in the neat craftsmanship and tight arrangements that ensures a blend of styles that couldn't be anyone else.

Mundo Meu is Flavia Coelho's new recording that sees her going back to her roots plunging into an
urban jungle with coloured natve slang. Unfolding her inner world like an immense, multcoloured
urban map, her fow resonates to an urban Baile Funk; Repente becomes Afrobeat; Forró and Samba
fnd a new life fuelled with Hip-Hop; African roots join Kanak chants; Bolero joins Ragga while East
European music becomes tropical via Jamaica. On the stand-out opener, 'Por Cima', we hear of a wom-
an who sacrifces all for her man in a Brazilian Bolero inspired by the traditonal songs that her father
listened to.
Elswhere Flavia sings of both the beauty and the dangers of Brazil; she pays tribute the street artsts
and workers of the favelas and of the solidarity between expats. With a stellar cast of guests that
include German superstar Patrice, cult rapper Speech (Arrested Development), accordionist Fixi of Java
and the legendary drummer Tony Allen, Flavia builds new aural textures on the memory and culture of

Mbongwana Star - From Kinshasa

LP[20,97 €]

Mbongwana Star is a newly formed band from Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratc Republic of
Congo. Made up of a sprawling network of shanty-towns and night shelters, day-to-day life in the city
is far from easy, but the band don't want sympathy. Tired of pre-conceptons around African music,
Mbongwana Star ('Mbongwana' means 'change') are creatng their own identty, fusing traditonal
Congolese rhythms with post punk and electronics inspired by life in the townships around them,
'making magic out garbage' says producer and band member Doctor L (who produced Tony Allen's
'Black Voices' album).
The result is revolutonary. This isn't an African band per se. It's a trans-global barrier-bustng sound
machine.

Buena Vista Social Cluc - Lost & Found

Buena Vista Social Club release 'Lost and Found,' a new rarities compilation packed with previously unheard live and in-studio material.

Coming almost two decades after the release of the original Grammy-winning, self-titled LP, the new album is a collection of previously unreleased tracks—some of which were recorded during the original album's sessions in Havana and others from the years that followed. Lost and Found is available to pre-order in iTunes and the Nonesuch Store (and outside of North America in the World Circuit Store) with an instant download of the album track "Macusa."

The studio tracks on Lost and Found were recorded at the 1996 Egrem studio sessions in Havana and during a period of rich and prolific creativity stretching into the early 2000s following the recording of the original album. Lost and Found also features live recordings from the world tours of Buena Vista's legendary veterans.

"Over the years we were often asked what unreleased material was left in the vaults," says World Circuit's Nick Gold. "We knew of some gems, favorites amongst the musicians, but we were always too busy working on the next project to go back and see what else we had. When we eventually found the time, we were astonished at how much wonderful music there was."

The original Buena Vista Social Club album became a surprise international best seller and the most successful album in the history of Cuban music. It was recorded for World Circuit Records by Ry Cooder over seven days in Havana in 1996, bringing together many of the great names of the golden age of Cuban music in the 1950s, several of whom were coaxed out of retirement for the sessions.

Plaza Francia - Live Re-experience (1lp+cd)

12'' vinyl in standard sleeve + CD included
In the previous episode: one Queen of Hearts (Catherine Ringer) and two Aces of Spades (Müller + Makaroff) played a game of tango with shades of rock : Plaza Francia. It's beena triumph of leather bound with red velvet. These two worlds have gotten to know each other pretty well. It would have been easy to quickly put out a live album of the tour, and tempting to remix the studio album too. But to mix these two events into one, that's unheard of: it's an audacious venture to rework (and recompose) in a studio the songs recorded live. That's how seven pieces recorded in public on a multitrack were surgically dissected while retaining the live energy and handed over to expert remixers. Chico Sonido and Centavrvs. Sonido comes from digital cumbia and revamped two tracks from the original repertoire with aerial dub, while the Centavrvs collective, who practice a more poppy brand of electro but were bred with regional music (locale) and psychedelic Peruvian music from the 60's, offered the Señora Ringer a comfortable roots and amber setting. The German duo Wolfsburg Pupkulies & Rebecca were also called to service and gave the song 'La Mision' a Berlin shade, sombre and dancefloor till the break of dawn. There are also two remixes signed by Roy Dubb, mystery remixer who is in fact no other than... Christoph Müller, one of the three from Plazia Francia, who has been remixing tracks for years, either in his pre-Gotan Project phase

Daym Arocena - The Havana Cultura Sessions Ep
  • 1: Drama
  • 2: El Ruso
  • 3: Sin Empezar
  • 4: Cry Me A River

Brownswood and Havana Cultura are delighted to announce this new EP from Cuban singer, composer, arranger, choir director, and band leader Daymé Arocena. At just 22 years old, Daymé is already a skillful, charismatic presence in Cuban music.

Recorded in just a few days in London and Havana, The Havana Cultura Sessions EP is a great introduction to Daymé's broad ranging musical talent. Drama showcases her trademark mix of jazz and Latin styles. El Ruso is what Dayme calls 'a funny song.' Its story covers her mother's enforced study of Russian during the heyday of Cuba's relationship with the Soviets. 'Life never says it; does truth tell a lie' she sings. On Sin Empezar Daymé glows with the range and use of tones in a superb song. Mellow and slow, its moving and stunning inclusion of the trumpet playing slowly with elongated notes. The sharp and crisp drumming and the piano's impressively subtle phrasesall work in harmony with the chorus and Dayme's unusually delicate voice in response to some lyrics. A deep ruumba re-imagining of the American torch song Cry Me a River completes the package.
