Strut are proud to announce the brand new studio album by one of Ghana's all-time great vocalists, The
Golden Voice Of Africa', Pat Thomas, in conjunction with the Kwashibu Area Band led by multi-instrumentalist
Kwame Yeboah (Cat Stevens, Patrice) and saxophonist Ben Abarbanel-Wolff (Ebo Taylor, Poets of Rhythm).
Hailing from Kumasi, Thomas had lived with highlife legend King Onyina from a young age before working
with Ebo Taylor in two of Ghana's great 1960s highlife big bands, Broadway Dance Band and Stargazers. They
would collaborate regularly, Pat contributing vocals to Ebo's solo albums and Ebo arranging horns for Pat's
songs. Both would become a mainstay of the '70s and '80s Ghanaian highlife, afrobeat and afro-pop scenes,
hitting big with the Ghana Cocoa Board-sponsored Sweet Beans band. Fela Kuti's bandleader, drummer Tony
Allen, would record a session with Sweet Beans in Kumasi in 1975 (as yet unreleased). Highlife was our
music,' Pat remembers. People like Ebo and I modernised it, made it more relevant to our day. We took the
Kwa music of Kumasi and other local styles and added Western elements.' With his distinctive flowing vocal
style, sung in Fanti and Ashanti Twi dialect, Pat became established as one of Ghana's biggest musical draws.

If you are not a top end disco collector with deep pockets you won't know this record, it's as rare as its gets. The last clean copy went for $6373. My 'Gangster boy' odyssey started for me around 12 years ago, soul collector and D.J David Ripolles played an acetate at Prestayn soul weekender and it blew me away, I asked dave what it was, he said the acetate was credited to Wanda McDaniels.

Myself and Malcom Catto (Drummer in excellent band the Heliocentrics ) started tracking the record and eventually got it touch with Co-Producer Ronald Crawley. We had the opportunity to do the record but the sticking point was nobody had a clean copy of the record to make a recording from and there were no tapes. Roll on 10 years and I secured a mint copy and got perfectly clean recording so here we are.

The record was not performed by Wanda McDaniel's & Ultimate choice as it has been credited up till now. The sand was 'The Reality Band And Show' from Newcastle Pennsylvania. The backing band was Ultimate Choice and the backing singer was Wanda McDaniel's (Producer Ronald Crawley sister). The lead singer was called Gladys, what happened to her we don't know but what a voice.

It was recorded in 1977 at Asterix Studios in Wilkinsburg Pennsylvania, 300 copies were pressed up to test the market response which surprisingly was lacklustre. So as these things go it was forgotten about and everyone moved on to the next thing.

The Label owner of 'Appleray' and its parent 'Pittsburgh Music Industry's' Ray Mitchell is no longer with us and we did not manage to find any more members of the band or uncredited chief engineer Ralph Camino. Ray recorded a couple of other decent 45s on Appleray but nothing quite touches this Disco Soul Perfection.

What a record, top of the stack, a perfect 10. Just Buy it.

Boozoo Bajou get better and better. It's now more than 17 years since the duo of Peter Heider and Florian Seyberth first put out a record, and 16 since their project began - and they have just made what is without question the record of their career, and more than worthy addition to Apollo's illustrious catalogue to boot. '4' is, very simply, an astounding piece of work: packed with craft, sophistication, intrigue, mystery, seduction and most of all an absolute dedication to the pursuit of out-and-out beauty, it easily transcends basic categories and expectations and stands alone as a shining example of what 21st century music can and should sound like. It takes your breath away.

This is the second track on Brazil 45's taken from Joao Donato's much sought after and requested Quem É Quem LP. Quirky percussion, bubbling keys, horns and a hypnotic vocal.Donato is a hugely prolific force in Brazilian music and worked with the likes of including Tom Jobim, Astrud Gilberto, Cal Tjader, Dom Um Romao and Gilberto Gil amongst others.Cala Boca Menino was released on a 7' in 1973 in Brazil, but is very difficult to find at a reasonable price and in good condition these days.

Mark Barrott has been quietly making waves under numerous aliases and releases on International Feel since inception, but has, since last year's beautiful ' Sketches from an Island ' album, starting working under his own name, creating a fine body of work.

'Bush Society' sees Mark with a new sound that he wears well. Who knows how long he'll stay here, but it's a Sketches lean on a different path. A melting pot of all that is making his world go round at the moment. A field recording from his time living in South America breathes ' Bush Society ' into life, before the Goji drums and Brazilian percussion are joined by a four four groove and those Carl Craig esque strings.

The flipside, ' Saviours Or Savages ' shows Barrott in deep Ibiza mode again, leaning towards the Sketches sound that was so adored last year by Balearic heads, music aficionados & new age crystal dwellers alike, but this time with a different twist. If you want to find the true melting pot of Balearic Beat currently, then this may well be one of the finest examples you are likely to hear. Pure mood music that made the island a worldwide force for thinkers and music makers alike.

Our hero, Jo Tongo (born Joseph Ekambi Tongo Mpondo) was born and raised in Douala Cameroon. In 1964 he headed off to Paris to begin Pharmaceutical studies. Somewhere along the way the music in his soul eventually won out and he embarked on a life of music. In 1968 his first single "Dig It Babe" released under his Jojo L'Explosif alias. A few more singles followed, as did regular appearances, contributions and productions with (fellow Camerounian) Manu Dibango, Tala AM, Manfred Ebanda and others throughout the 70s.

In 1977 Jo's the stars in Jo's timeline all aligned when he produced and recorded his debut self titled "Jo Tongo" for the Fiesta label. Recorded in both French and his native Duala language, it is a perfect example of 70s funk meeting afrobeat with African folk styles and flavors. Produced with legendary Parisian funk / disco / afro soundman Slim Pezin the album oozes style, quality, fine musicianship and is full of instantly memorable songs.

The album opens up with stunningly catchy Jangolo. It's a prefect introduction to Jo's awesomely funky bass guitar. Slim adds layers of percussive "jangly" guitar and the track is underpinned by African drums, funky stabs and 70s nascent synthesiser string machines. Tracks such as a "Kiele" and "Boso Bongo" highlight Jos Cameroonian roots. While dancefloor stompers such as "Piani" and "A'Muna" sounds more relavent and current today than possibly they did in 1977. The album also includes plenty of swagger with the boogie-style afro swingers "Ewande" and "Muasa Loko".

The Jangolo track was a highlight of the recent Africa Seven debut release "African Airways Volume 1: (Funk Connection 1972-1979). To Follow that up Africa Seven are proud to repress the debut Jo Tongo album in its full glory.

Jo now spends his time between Paris and New York. He is a social media and Internet wizard (buzz him up!) and is currently working on new material.

Ata Kak's legendary tape Obaa Sima introduced one of the greatest left-field dance floor jammers of all time, "Daa Nyinaa." Now available on 12" single for the first time, the song Ata Kak recorded in his Toronto apartment in 1993 lives on. The artist was cloaked in mystery until very recently; he created a joyously idiosyncratic balancing act of highlife, R&B, rap and house music that resonated with listeners many miles and several years away. The single is backed with the tape's final song, a minimalist electronic instrumental dripping with lo-fi rhythmic soul called "Bome Nnwom." The journey that lead to this 12" - which also took many miles and many years - shows the extent to which music can inspire and excite, regardless of background or experience. After years of searching, Awesome Tapes From Africa tracked down the artist's family in Canada. His recording was the first to be posted on the ATFA blog back in 2006, and has been an underground obsession for many diehard internet music fans ever since. The singer/producer - whose real name is Yaw Atta-Owusu - became happily aware of the distance his music has traveled since it was quietly released in 1994. Obaa Sima was released worldwide this March after a years-long wait and a brilliant restoration and remastering, by Jessica Thompson at the Magic Shop NYC, of one of the few remaining playable cassette copies in known existence. With this special release, we hone in on the genius elements that make Ata Kak's nearly-forgotten music so remarkable.

For decades, Crystal Syphon were, at most, a footnote in the music history books: a name on posters from the psychedelic ballroom days, and a fond memory to those who'd seen the Merced, California band perform on the west coast circuit in the late 1960s. That changed with the release of Family Evil in 2012. Their debut album - evidence that the mine of hidden gems from the original psych era had not yet been picked clean - caught the ears of fans worldwide, garnering raves and equal-footing comparisons to Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Airplane, and the Byrds, the group reunited and began playing out again, with their vintage sound intact. Now, Roaratorio is proud to present Elephant Ball, a second helping of unearthed material from the band's archives. Starting with three tracks from their earliest recording sessions under the Crystal Syphon name, in 1967 - the swaggering garage-rock miniature Dawn Sermon' and the folk-rock of For All Of My Life' and Tell Her For Me' - it then moves on to a Fillmore West gig from November 1969, featuring the final incarnation of the group during their original run. With the same complex harmonies, nuanced songwriting and top-drawer musicianship that won Family Evil its accolades, the half-dozen tunes range from the crunchy riffs of the title track and It's Winter' to the lightly jazzy Don't Fall Brother' and the Latin-tinged moves of There Is Light There.

Berlin based duo, The KVB, recently spent a week at the Invada Bristol studios recoring their next album - which will be  released towards the end of the year. In the meantime we have pressed their recent limited edition instrumental album 'Mirror Being' onto LP and CD. Mirror Being was previously only available as a cassette, exclusively from the bands website. The Invada issue LP is pressed onto Frosted Clear Vinyl (800 units) and comes with download card.

Junior Reid sings 'Puppa Jammys Nice' in a Rock 'N' Roll style on this dry and bouncy computerized rhythm while Little John showcases his rhythmical performance on a previously unreleased rhythm, which sounds similar to Jammy's classic 'Love Punanny Bad' rhythm.

Little John praises King Jammys Super Power with his melancholic vocals and serious lyrics. Anthony Malvo and Collin Roach, who both recorded at King Jammys Recording Studio regularly, combine their lyrical talents on the world famous song 'We Are The World

Nitty Gritty updates his major hit song 'Run Round The World' to 'Play Around The World'. This dubplate simply praises King Jammys Super Power and he warns the sound boys by singing "Jammys is the sound where play around the world, don't test Jammy sound"!

Another crucial dubplate by Nitty Gritty on his hit tune 'Trial And Crosses'. Side-A features Pad Anthony's 'Try A Time' and the original dubplate version of 'Trial And Crosses' by Nitty Gritty on the other side. Only some foundation sound systems own and play Nitty Gritty's dubplates as he was shot to death in 1991.

Dub Store Records presents Kiddus I - Rockers: Graduation In Zion 1978-1980

Recordings by the legendary Roots singer Kiddus I, who appeared in the "Rockers" film, are released for the first time. "Rockers: Graduation in Zion" is the first release in a series of three albums that will bring to the public the majority of his existing recordings.

Kiddus I is the mysterious figure singing at the start of the film Rockers. A graduate of Ras Michael's Sons Of Negus, a key member of The Wailers milieu, and a Black Ark artist, his recordings - centred on the Roots Reggae period - are marked by the openness of their musical horizons, and a striking originality and integrity. (Also during this era he was a key voice raised in the Jamaican music industry against political oppression.)

Yet Kiddus I's disdain for careerism has held him back from the spotlight - as so many people in Jamaican music will tell you. Now, this revelatory, comprehensive retrospective will surely confirm his place amongst the all-time greats of Reggae music.

This compilation consists of every single recorded at Lee Perry's Black Ark between 1978 and 1980 and unreleased sound sources recorded at Tuff Gong. The best sessions of the most accomplished international Reggae musicians are unveiled for the first time in twenty years.

The next part of Mr Raoul K's album 'Still Living In Slavery'. It is delivered in a picture sleeve that will hold all three records and will also look very good on your record shelf. Musicwise, the first side features all three chapters of 'Dounougnan Magni' stretched over almost eighteen minutes. Pure afrofunk bliss with beautiful keyboards played by Kuniyuki Takahashi. The track also features the vocal talents of Hamed Sosso who accompanies the listener throughout his journey. An emotional trip, starting in hot desert plain and ending on cloudy hilltops. The line 'En ye bori la dounougnou ko, saya la en ko' means: 'We are chasing the good life but death is chasing us'. There is nothing we can do in life that prevents us from being outrun in the end. The flipside opens with the Mr Raoul K & Laolu Version of 'Sene Kela'. A summery groover with a prominent Balafon melody, a driving bassline and beautiful vocals by Sona Diabate. Reminds the listener of sundrenched landscapes or terraces without being too relaxed to dance to it. The record closes with two parts of 'Enchained Tribe' - a track inspired by war dances of the Massai tribe. It shows a rolling groove with dominating percussion led by the sound of the 'Water Kalebasse' - a dried pumpkin filled with water. As soon as the flutes kick in, it's all about letting yourself loose and get lost in the groove. Enjoy.

Bunny produced a string of hits during the dance hall explosion of the eighties where, backed by The Roots Radics, he continued to show the new generation how it should be done. The greatest of his dance hall style records was the self explanatory 'Rule Dance Hall' from 1987 originally released on the album of the same name and subsequently issued as a seven inch single. "East, west north and south I rule the land. I play original style while others play version...,"

Bunny followed 'Search For Love' with 'Bide Up' another emotional tour de force and with a message so different that it takes a while to fully assimilate. He would later recut the song for his classic solo debut album 'Black Heart Man' but this is the original cut in all its glory. The B-side features one of the two Big Youth versions to the song and the Youth is at his peak here as he reinforces Bunny's message with his plea for greater understanding: "Be unto one another like a man to a brother...,"

The first release on Bunny Wailer's Solomonic label was the reflective and ambitious 'Search For Love' credited to 'Heat, Air & Water'. Bunny sings this yearning song beautifully, the mournful horns play a variant on the traditional 'Waltzing Matilda' melody and an early incarnation of the I Threes provide the harmonious backing vocals.

This is a Jimi Tenor's Afro project. "Black January" has never before been released digitally having previously been only available as a B-side on a 7inch single.

Musician and composer Jimi Tenor has never settled for the traditional role of a pop artist. He is known as a productive musician whose work lies beyond current trends, and also as a performer who combines the finest elements of afro-american music, spontaneous silliness and shameless glamour in an original way.

Besides being a professional musician for almost 20 years, Jimi Tenor (born Lassi Lehto, 1965, Lahti, Finland) has also practised photography, directed short films and designed clothes and musical instruments.

Sao Paulo born Toni Tornado was considered the Brazilian James Brown by many.

His career began as 'Tony Checker', lip syncing to rock 'n' roll hits and touring extensively outside of Brazil. Whilst in New York he met Tim Maia and became involved in the 'Black Rio' movement. Toni also worked with Ed Lincoln and Antonio Adolfo amongst many others. He had a successful acting career and starred in many soap opera's.

'O Journaleiro' is a tearing funk track with tough drums and big vocals. Taken from his hard to find and expensive to acquire debut LP, 'BR-3', released by Odeon Brazil in 1971.

This track has never been released on 7".

Som Tres was a jazz ensemble formed by legendary Brazilian musician César Camargo Mariano, who also formed Sambalanço Trio.

Cesar's collaborations with many of Brazil's most important singers, notably Wilson Simonal and Elis Regina, have brought him worldwide acclaim; the historic 1973 album Elis and Tom, made with Antonio Carlos Jobim, features Cesar as arranger, pianist and musical director.

Som Tres recorded eight albums between 1966 and 1971. 'Homenagem a Mongo' is taken from the sought after 'Som 3' LP from 1969 on Odeon Brazil. It has never been released on a 7".

'Life Line', a gentle, haunting love song showcasing Bunny's sublime vocals over a subtle, restrained rhythm encapsulates in just over two minutes more than many artists manage to express over an entire double album. Big Youth's plea for tolerance and understanding, one of his two essential cuts of Bunny's 'Bide Up', was originally released as a double sided single and is one of the hardest to find records on the Solomonic label. His cover of Average White Band's 'Pick Up The Pieces' recorded with his 'conjunto' ensemble, takes the track into funky samba territory, laden with percussion and horns.Originally released on the 'O Som Quente E O Das Neves LP in 1976. Previously unreleased on 7".

A Mr Bongo all-time Brazilian Funk favourite. Tearing drums, vocals and piano packed into just over 2 minutes. Killer. Som Tres were a trio formed by prolific pianist, arranger and producer Cesar Camargo Mariano.Originally appeared on the 'Um É Pouco, Dois É Bom, Este Som Três É Demais' LP on Odeon Brazil in 1971. Previously unreleased on 7".

Bombay Disco 2 is the second volume of our Bombay Disco series. It is the story of disco in Hindi films from 1980 to 1992 and features selections excavated from the dusty bazaars of India by DJ Brother Cleve.
Disco songs appeared in every type of film, from family dramas and historical epics to curry westerns and horror movies. Bombay Disco showcases the unique musical hybrid that is Bollywood filmi music.

This 12" features two tracks, "Jab Chaye" by Asha Bhosle and "Dance Music" by Bappi Lahiri masterfully re-edited by Brother Cleve. Both tracks give you a great preview of what is to come from Bombay Disco 2 in a limited pressing of 500 copies.

This is a another great compilation of Anatolian Rock legend Baris Manço from Türküola. Featuring some of his early English recordings, including 'Run A Way' and 'Flower Of Love', big hits like 'Sari Çizmeli Mehmet Aga' and 'Aynali Kemer', and also a few remarkable instrumental gems from his '70s concept albums, the music presented here is exactly as colourful as Manço's breezy blouson on the cover!

The Brooklyn Gypsies are a group of NYC based musicians/ producers whose creative influences draw from the constant shifting of an ever changing urban sociopolitical landscape while retaining their unique cultural backgrounds through what has come to be recognized as "Gypsy" music.

Sin Fronteras is the groups debut album which translates to "Without Borders". This theme can be heard in the seamless fusion of genres taking the listener on a sci-fi desert journey through the Middle East and North African Sahara with The Spy From Cairo's Oud stylings navigating the caravan. Lyrics in Spanish, English and even Russian are featured from the group's two vocalists Carmen Estevez, who showcases her flamenco freestyle textures on "Supercore", & Tina Kristina's , whose reggae blues & Russian folk inspired melodies in "Desert Moon" create a unique BK Gypsy sound. Rhythmic trances are induced via drummer Brandon Lewis & Estevez's Arabic percussion breakbeats as heard on "Marfa", while producer Takuya Nakamura's seductive trumpet lines & deep bass synth pads along with co producer Troy "Mobius" Simms summon Gypsy Dub sax riffs & solos reminiscent of street musicians on Istanbul's Istikal thoroughfare and dancehalls in Kingston Jamaica. The roots reach as far east as Japan on "BK Gypsy Dancehall" Feat. Bajah of Dry Eye Crew, fusing a Japanese Koto melody with the Sierra Leonean MC's signature reggae dancehall cadence. "Sin Fronteras" is a tribute to the nomadic Gypsy spirit worldwide.

Originating from Spain, Japan, Russia, Italy & U.S.A. BK Gypsies truly represents Brooklyn's diverse ethnic heritage and style. The gypsies came to be in 2012 within Williamsburg Brooklyn's Studio BPM music scene. Members include: Carmen Estevez, Takuya Nakamura, Tina Kristina, Brandon Lewis, Troy "Mobius" Simms & Zeb "The Spy From Cairo". After a number of collaborative projects between the artist were explored the opportunity to form a band that incorporated elements from each project arose. The groups sound is an infusion of Mediterranean, North African, Arabic Themes with Electronic, Dancehall and Dub Reggae. The term "Gypsy" was incorporated into the band name representing the nomadic spirit & way of life within this musical journey.

At the dawning of the '60s many Turkish workers emigrated to Germany, where they -more or less unintentionally- started a sort of music scene focusing on the latest musical developments back home, in Turkey. Türküola was one of the prominent companies to appeal to this feeling of "gurbet", issueing records by Baris Manço, Cem Karaca, Asik Mahzuni Serif and many more Turkish artists for decades. This LP collects highlights from Türküola's late '60s releases of the legendary Cem Karaca and his energetic beatband APASLAR. Great stuff from Karaca's early career!

This album demonstrates the early period of Ilhan Irem who later on in the 1980's became a progressive rock and new wave singer with mystical new age themes. The songs on this album consist of his works recorded between 1973 and 1978 in which he was accompanied by studio orchestras such as the legendary soul orchestra Istanbul Gelisim. The significant Mellotrone sound of Istanbul Gelisim perfectly matches with the Donovan years of this Turkish meditative rock singer and as a seal of the flower power years. The songs are from the Diskotür and Yavuz singles of Ilhan Irem which were licensed by Türküola for the European market during the 1970s.

The pioneers of Anatolian Pop display their best years under the leadership of legendary keyboardist Murat Ses. The fab 4 of Mogollar won the 'Academie Charles Cross Grand Prize' for their debut LP 'Danses Et Rythmes De La Turquie D'Hier A Aujourd'hui'. This prize was also achieved by Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and Jacques Brel before. The cover of this Türküola edition of 'Danses Et Rythmes...' has the same cover and the title ('Anadolu Pop') of the Turkish edition on Yavuz Plak. Originally released in 1972.
