In 2019, after having spent the entire year living in a recording studio somewhere in the Cotswolds, slowly adapting to the new pace of life, Norwegian-Algerian producer Karima F took a break from walking aimlessly between the rolling hills to make an EP. Recorded in December 2019, «Fief Fef» is a succulent sandwich of Karima F’s library of musical tastes: bass, braindance, cheesy chords, UK funky, breaks, pig-squealing modular bursts, discarded ideas, idleness and sub bass-frequencies.

«Sheer Rage» was recently played by Avalon Emerson on her BBC Radio 1 residency, while «Crab Ride» was included in Ben UFO’s guest mix for Sherelle's instalment of the same BBC Radio 1 show.

«Fief Fef», the fifth release on Schloss, is mixed and mastered by Matt Karmil. The cover is a section of the painting «ICE GIRLS» (2020) by Schloss-co-founder Ida Ekblad, and design is by Richard Øiestad.

Another X-Kalay OG returns to the label this summer and we couldn’t be happier :) It’s not a huge overstatement to say that Lucas’ first record on X-Kalay, “Ataraxia”, was somewhat of a milestone in the development of both artist and label, and it has been a huge pleasure to see him go from strength to strength since its release just over two years ago. These days it’s fair to say that Lucas is one of the most exciting young artists in the game - with a finely crafted knack for electro, and the 303 in particular, pretty much second to none. We’re super proud to welcome him back with his next effort -“Lifeforms”.

The emotive opener is “Amongst us in Harmony” - steadily building through deep pads and bouncing arps, the now trademark Lou Karsh acid bassline ever present. Coming in over 8 minutes, it’s a truly galactic track. “Internally Vexed”is a more stripped back affair. The breaksy groove is underpinned by the snappiest of snares and shrouded in celestial pads, the masterful use of the 303 demonstrating one of the sharpest and slickest basslines you’re likely to hear this year >:0

On the flip, “Alien With a Subwoofer (Skyline Mix)” is pacey club material built around deep wobs, a seriously wiggly 303, and carefully constructed pads building subtle tension. The sound of aliens redlining straight through your hood. Rounding things off, title track “Lifeforms” is beautifully crafted deep electronica; full of emotion and lush pads, otherworldly atmospherics and yearning synths.

This is a special record, and some of Lucas’ best work without a doubt. Don’t sleep!

Blood flowers are wounded memories that refuse to let go

Blood Flowers is a heavy duty 4 tracker for the freaks. electro, dungeon techno, slinky acid and tribal excursion – properly damaged party starters for lowlight dreams and nightmares. Over the last 10 years, Mule Driver has been making special 808 day releases. This latest set is his most convincing effort to date, jumping from idea to idea but retaining a solid guideline of sci-fi weirdness and collapsing body movements.

on Unnamed War, maddening backward sounds are backed by a jumpy bass line and a heavy electro beat. Blood Flowers brings the hot middle eastern desert wind over tribal war rhythms, covering the poor drummers with burning sand. Those lost souls keep wandering aimlessly over a rumbling bassline in the Tunnels of track 3. Naqoura, the closing track, brings a hazardous grinding feedback, pounding bass drum and sword-like cymbals, topped with Fata-Morgana-synth-sounds that flicker a glimpse of hope.

Two decades. Twenty years. Twenty compilations. Over 400 tracks. Over two days of total playing time and countless coloured dots. If someone would have told us in 1999, when we put together TOTAL 1 that this would turn into one of the longest standing compilation series in techno world we would have laughed out loud. But here we are – in the year 2020 which will probably go down in history as the most difficult period ever for club culture. But we won’t stop doing what we’re doing. Music is our oxygen. We’ll dance together soon again.

The TOTAL series has always been like KOMPAKT’s yearbook and to say it with the late Frank Sinatra: It was a very good year. Our family of artists delivered a strong heterogeneous mix of uplifting sounds, from the lush reveries of ROBAG WRUHME and SOELA to the stark primetime bangers of MARC ROMBOY or ANNA & KITTIN and everything in between. Notable new entries to our crew are the Londoner KIWI with his wonderfully careless “Hello Echo” that picks up the camp disco vibes Justus Köhncke made a staple in our repertoire. His quirky pop approach sits comfortably between fellow dutchmen WEVAL’s abstract beats and AGENTS OF TIME’s opulent Italo Disco. YOTAM AVNI blends Detroit techno with new age jazz that reminisces the sound of ECM artists like Jan Garbarek or John Surman. The man with the hat, KÖLSCH also picks up jazzier notes in his very own big room style. Youngblood JONATHAN KASPAR appears twice, fortifying his status as one of the hottest beat smiths of our hometown Cologne. TOTAL wouldn’t be TOTAL without our permanent staff present in full force. 'Burn Slow' is a 10-track album from Chris Liebing with
vocal contributions from a diverse range of artists: Miles
Cooper Seaton (Akron / Family), Mute labelmate Polly
Scattergood (onDeadWaves), Cold Cave, Aleen and, of
course, Gary Numan.
'Burn Slow' is a minimalist electronic epic and the start of
a new chapter for one of techno's leading authorities. It
might not be what you expect for a DJ synonymous with
fast, hard and heavy techno but, according to Chris
Liebing, he's always been something of a slow starter:
'I've wanted to do something like 'Burn Slow' all my life,'
he says.
While retaining the framework of the techno beats that
Chris Liebing has dedicated his life to for the past 25
years, here he also seeks out new harmonic territories,
taking aim at the heart rather than the feet, in order to
tackle some deep themes. The key concept of presence -
the idea that everything is happening in this moment and
that everything in the past is mere memory - form the
thematic backbone of the record. It's something Liebing
got in touch with via philosopher Alan Watts, not to
mention decades of getting entire dancefloors lost in the
present: 'If people would stay in the now, everything in
the world would just have a bit more harmony,' explains
Liebing.
Liebing has teamed up with Ralf Hildenbeutel (a key part
of the long since defunct Eye Q family) for 'Burn Slow' and
it was at his new musical 'enabler' Hildenbeutel's Frankfurt
studio that Liebing began drifting into new territor.

Vol 9 in the Tone DropOut extravaganza comes at ya with the return of The He-Men, Aka Sween ( tdo head honcho ) and Dan Beck.

They kick off side A, with A Train , and that exactly what it is , starting with sample of a tube announcer before the train rolls off and kicks off this journey, haunting synths and fx come in and out with a acid line bubbling along, and rolling snares breaking it up, a great comeback from The He-Men.

Dawl makes up side A with an electro classic, driving beat and bubbling basslines that build and roll with claps and snaps and laser fx, all accompanied by some industrial fx a real dance floor toon as always from the main man DAWL, get any party going.

To complete side A we have another Tones Breaks to add to the collection a little 3 min of pure bliss amen break from Dawl and Sween.

Side B we welcome back our good friend Ascot/WW. for his hatrick appearance and yet another quality classy tune, we also welcome back our good friend Corporeal Face aka Joe Roberts, this is one busy man at the moment who has really found his feet as a great producer. this track is very original love it.

Many peoples from Miami, Brussels and Montreal cities recently spotted some mysterious creatures that appear in their street. They look like apes but when you look at it they also seems to be as human as we are. They are coming from Planet Hanuma and came on earth to spread their message through analog drum machines and synths.

James Ruskin continues Blueprint's 25th Anniversary with a new EP collaboration alongside Truncate, which follows Ruskin's solo outing, 'Shortcut'. Truncate and Ruskin's EP features three sketches, but don't be fooled by the EP's title - these are fully rounded slices of techno finery delivered by two mainstays of the scene and an essential release for your BP collection.

If you want a snapshot of where techno stands in any given year, and a preview of where it’s headed, look no further than Drumcode’s A-Sides compilation. Since 2012 it has marked the label debuts of countless vital Drumcode artists and affiliates, from Layton Giordani, Wehbba and Boxia, to Amelie Lens and ANNA, no less.

Every year, new names are unearthed, tried and true techno contributors serve up their best, and icons of the industry land their debut on Adam Beyer’s storied label.

The 2020 edition hits with 13 tracks, eight coming from label debutants.

There’s Eats Everything searing rave bomb ‘Organico’ and Dubfire’s ice-cool electro offering ‘Deadbug’, both artists landing their maiden contributions to DC after long affiliations with Beyer.

With three EPs in less than two years on Truesoul, Oscar L steps up to DC, showing the breadth of his sound palette with a soaring, synth-laden gem ‘Dark Fate’.

A growing label favourite, Juliet Fox follows up ‘Was Beautiful’, her superb track on last year’s A-Sides, with ‘Our Fantasy’, reinforcing her skill for crafting anthemic techno compositions.

Victor Ruiz & Thomas Schumacher link and the result is ‘Intuit’, a sleek futuristic roller that hits you square between the eyes.

Other highlights come from longtime Drumcode cohorts Reset Robot and Harvey McKay, who both dish up premium works, reinforcing their classy productions nous.

BUILDINGS was born out of a creative merger between Detroit’s 313 Acid Queen (Rebecca Goldberg) and Italian maestro Sickboy (Stefano Piseddu), their 4th and 2nd releases on Detroit Underground respectively. The duo have thoughtfully arranged a half dozen tracks inspired figuratively and literally by the landscape of Detroit. Working 7,000km and multiple time zones apart, having never met in person, their individual expressions intertwine in soundscapes reminiscent of techno’s origin and exist in a way only capable in our present time. Devoted as ever to the roots of Detroit techno, Goldberg and Piseddu have built a magnificent album around the Detroit Map Series theme conceptualized by DU label founder Kero and designed by Neubau Berlin.

Opener GUARDIAN pays homage to Detroit’s Art Deco landmark skyscraper exploring rigid textures and a mosaic of tones reflective of the building’s diverse composition.

STRUCTURE escalates through synth leads and drum breaks ascending into a powerful high-rise track.

MCS carves through an array of percussion and crooning acid as you might imagine the sounds of Detroit’s former train depot, at one time used by thousands of passengers per day traveling to and from Detroit.

FOUNDATION’s original mix and rework get down to the literal with vocal samples calling out the project’s muse. Sickboy’s dynamic hits and 313 Acid Queen’s bubbling acid lines are truly reflective of both producers’ individuality within the collaboration.

RENAISSANCE represents a continued era of rebirth and is more literally named for the group of connected skyscrapers whose central tower stands as Detroit’s tallest building.

This cassette collects some of these stills, or better said freeze frames. Freeze frames that become almost landscapes that one can enter or not, listen closely to or use as mere background ambience. Wilson went in and untied the knot, yet while investigating the situation, posing more questions. This is as open-ended a release can get, so captiously simple.I met Andrew Wilson, (aka Berko, Art Wilson, Andras), a few months ago in Tokyo where we were both to perform on a sort of Balearic Ambient variety show in the heart of Shibuya. At some point Andrew was telling me about his interest in Youtube videos of truck accidents, animals attacking people and bloopers. With creating one-shot samples of these sort of “popular fringe finds” he started creating long-form drones of harmonic beauty, without being overtly and subjectively emotional. Wilson presented some of these pieces on said night in Tokyo, in a dandyesque manner all dressed in white, sitting behind a small restaurant table. "Table for one, please … "

The Spanish Duo 'Crime as Service” arrives on Modularz presenting a solid LP focusedon Tough tribal fused techno tools. The LP is consistent with 10 tracks in total as the first 4 to come out on a 4 vinyl sampler the same time as the full digital release. This is one of those releases that once you get it you play it all the time as you will be eager to mix these tracks with anything as most of the release is focused on hypnotic driving drum programing and highly affective hard grooves. From the left coast of Norway, Bergen, Eirik Moberg has been making music for years without releasing any of it.

His production value is organic and it sure shows in Rusk; his first release, and Balsawood’s first wax. All things analog, recorded on tape, Eirik Moberg quirkily feeds his affinity for a large range of electronic music whilst maintaining his love for the human ingredient in odd oldies.

Eirik Moberg has a lot of special projects lying around, we feel that the cluster of tracks selected for Rusk will provide a worthy introduction to Moberg’s capacity for producing solid original electronic music. He also plays an acoustic guitar on 09.
We are humbled to have our friend Nachbraker on board with a remix. He fell in love with the release and has done a bangin’ interpretation of Groin Kicks.

Etienne makes his debut EP for Melliflow after the breakout success of his "Currently Idle' album earlier this year.

Gil.Barte returns to Neubau with another demonstration of his complex sound, delivering the title track ‚L.i.G‘ as an uncompromising slow-burning tool for the club, while on the B-side ‚AGH‘ gets your nerves twisted. Additionally Lamusa II reinterpreted ‚L.i.G‘ in a more moderate but not less effective way

For over 20 years Gosub has brought us his brand of classic electro cuts, so it was really interesting to see his techno mind in action on “Cosmic Cannibals”. Though out this release Gosub drapes soul across the Detroit fueled 808/909 foundation though out this vinyl release.

Starting with “The Depth Charge” a dark dimensional warping bass and a synth that cuts through the darkness sounding like if Charlie Parker designed a synth a definite for repeat. Full 909 in effect on “The Way Home II” with heavy toms an high Ph acid lines provoke the listener to pay further attention to the details in this track.

On the B-Side “The Ratio” which features New York’s Preston Fulwood on vocals and keys brings in the funk infused to Gosub’s more familiar electro beats we find really rewarding. This track is brings the funk and jazz while Preston’s vocals make you want to sing and find your own soul. The ending’s dark vocoder reminds the listener that “This is just your virtual reality”. Preston & Gosub makes you want more of this future sound. Lastly, “Omni Presence” grounds us again with low swung 303 baselines grinding against a straight 4 on the floor beat while supporting synths carry on with their own conversation. Be warned.

French producer Hemka delivers her debut album on Darko Esser’s BALANS Records imprint this March entitled ‘Hunger Waves’

Residing in Paris via Marseille, Hemka has been impressing in the wider techno scene following stellar releases on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint, TWR72’s Float Records and Tripeo aka Darko Esser’s BALANS label. Hemka’s intricate yet vibrant productions with an emotional, hypnotic edge have garnered support from names such as Rebekah, Anthony Parasole, Truncate and Dasha Rush in addition to seeing her join the likes of Len Faki, Surgeon and James Ruskin in and around the Parisian and European club circuit. ‘Hunger Waves’ sees Hemka drop her debut album on BALANS following releases from Mike Parker, ROD, 3KZ, label boss Darko Esser and many more.

‘Discovery’ kicks off the album with space-fueled modulations, sweeping synths and uplifting elements before ‘Golden Coins’ deploys shimmering rhythms, eerie yet enticing tones elegantly harmonising with undulant, low frequencies. ‘Emergency’ together with ‘Mushroom Kingdom’ and ‘Retrieved’ see the album gain momentum with three energetic techno rollers which balance tripped-out oscillations, unsettling atmospherics and reverberating weight bouncing off the throbbing kicks.

‘The Lost Levels’ keeps the energy flowing through growling synthesis, spiraling strings and headspinning grooves until ‘Innocence’ lays focus on syncopated 909 rhythms, tension-building melodies and bright, whirling bleeps throughout. ‘Hunger Waves’ moves into emotive territories gracefully fusing euphoric euphony, warm and progressive chords and wistful ambience until ‘Unusual Situation’ rounds off the impressive package with gentle keys, bubbly drums orbiting around beautifully subtle themes.

The new SYNTAX Electronix Sub-Label is called SYNTAX Down and it is born with this EP manufactured by “InHum’AwZ”, a French couple who are making their way into the international electronic circuit.
Her musical proposal is open and varied, but one of her axes is in the lower areas, very complete compositions with psychedelic messages and a great work of stereos, her set up is completely analog and her desire to remain in this electronic circuit is intense and sincere.

Leipzig’s Interviews returns to Bitterfeld for his second EP of power electro, techno and EBM plus another new wave anthem on the B2.

Where Is Your Toughness Now (No Forgiveness) finds the listener surrounded by a sense of dread and imminent doom, a collection of shrilling glimpses and brooding ambiances, distant broken memories made sound and sudden disturbances. At the end of the track added piano notes will increase the creepiness, preparing us for what will come next. More More More More (Courting Insanity) dwells in deep power electronics territory, and we will find ourselves in a bleak sea of chaos and madness. Obsessive rhythmic patterns and majestic effects impose a robust march, evoking a mechanical world inside our vicious mind. Just when you think this is it an eerie melody complete the scenario. Breasts In Sight (Demand A Choice) surprises with delicate ambient synth sounds and crystalline atmospheres in a droning course, reaching after a while a stomping movement with martial innuendos and distorted kick drums. The listener finds himself in a complex mix of emotions underlined by melancholic notes and ominous soundscapes, perhaps showing us personal facts from the author’s life.

Lifestyle (After The Rise Comes The Fall) is a rhythmic noise affair with cinematic elements and abrasive atmospheres with suspended parts and heavily manipulated vocals. A nightmarish voyage into anarchic assaults and controlled darkness reaching orchestral greatness. Monogamy Rules (Not Belonging To Anyone) uses suspense as a device showcasing broken sounds and shrilling lines, conjuring an alarming sonic world for us. The tension grows as the highly cinematic crescendo reaches an industrial climax with sci-fi qualities. Inner thoughts and ideas become a compulsive soundtrack to the demise of our preconceptions and in-built credos, leaving us with a sense of uneasiness. The last track Masculine Norms (The Many Faces Of Manhood) drives the message home by the means of eerie soundscapes and cut-up sounds, giving us a crawling movement with sparse rhythms and soothing hidden melodies. Distant laments evoke a deeply disturbing portrait of struggle and mixed emotions.

Generative music seems to imply a systems approach to music, or a system that once created can utilise randomness in a creative way. The benevolence of nature’s creativity belies this musical term, and can flip the word ‘generative’ to mean to involve constantly flowing creativity with purpose. In Europe there was a time in the Pagan Renaissance when architecture would mirror nature’s generative quality. Sculptures and columns were to imply animation or movement.

That’s where Milan W.’s album comes through in 2020. His music involves the night shadows of Europe’s architecture and its growth. In Bloom personifies itself by showing Antwerp’s influential ‘Night Play’: a term that can relate to many European cities such as Bologna, Vienna, and so on and so on. The leftovers of Renaissance and gothic architecture are everywhere in Europe still; layers of ruins that can generate the impression of simultaneous time periods. Tracks like Spa and Helium Queen reveal and revel in the power of shadow movement that is generated by the night. In Milan W.’s past works, the poignant and simple creative play of dark wave and synth beat music was his vehicle for expression, but now on In Bloom he departs to a touching sidereal impressionism allied with Coil’s instrumental pieces on Horse Rotorvator — an album whose cover portrays the potential powers of the pavilion just as Milan W. is portraying the generative soul and alienation of Europe’s ‘Night Play’. Because of In Bloom we can come to believe that there is a secretive energy in alienation, a playfulness that is alight at Night.

Another Motive launches its record label with an EP from Finnish producer Roope Karhunen aka Mirage Man. Mirage Man has crafted a unique sound exploring a hypnotic and seductive aesthetic within House and Techno. The A-side opens up with 'Hiss & Hers' , a soothing-narcotic take on Techno with overtones of dub and ambience. Followed by a hard-hitting 'Harmoni', layering crisp drum machines and ethereal synths within a magnetic groove that evolves from raw to rich. The B-side embarks with 'Healing', composed of shuffling rhythms and subtle streams of warm synth pads that grow into an esoteric climax fitting several styles within one. Closing the EP is 'Harmoni' remix by BNJMN taking the essence of the original and folding it into a kaleidoscope of fractured rhythms and surreal sounds that collide to finish the EP off with a bang.

A collection of rare and unreleased recordings from the archives of electronic music pioneer Mort Garson, composer of Mother Earth's Plantasia. The compilation plays like an ultimate Mort Garson playlist, and includes alternate takes of Plantasia tracks, music for never-aired radio advertisements, themes for science fiction films, erotic oddities, and much more from the prolific composer's '60s and '70s synthesizer oeuvre. This LP contains a 40-minute recording of Oceanic's concert, performed on his custom-made string instrument connected to a modular synth. The concert was performed for 200 people laying on pillows, surrounding Oceanic and Warping Halos, a light installation by Children of the Light.

Oceanic debuted this live show in spring 2017 during Minimal Music Festival in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, and while minimal music might be an accurate description of the sound, it also touches themes of trance and folk music. There are no different tracks, it's one continuous and largely improvised performance, sometimes abstract, sometimes wonderfully melodic. To fit on a LP, the recording is cut in two parts, the composition gently fades around the halfway mark.

After releasing music on Nous'klaer and Versatile and a DJ residency at De School since its beginning, this LP covers the first steps of Oceanic as a solo live musician. This release also marks the first steps of De Nieuw, De School's new record label that will aim to capture the sounds of the different rooms of the venue from next year on.

Almost three years after opening its doors, De School will launch their new label De Nieuw at the end of this year. For their first release, De Nieuw presents the first ever recording to surface from between the walls of the venue. On this LP is one of the first live concerts by Oceanic, recorded at the auditorium of De School on October 21st 2017. This was in the middle of a 64-hour event that lasted from Friday evening until Monday lunch.

Having previously brought together world-renowned Theremin soloist Carolina Eyck and electronic producer Eversines for a specially commissioned collaborative mini album, yeyeh founder Pieter Jansen has now conjured up another unlikely but inspired joint album, this time featuring award-winning free-jazz vocalist Greetje Bijma and leftfield house, techno and ambient producer Oceanic.

The project has its roots in a chance meeting between Jansen and Bijma, a legendary figure on the Dutch jazz scene who in 1990 became the first woman to win the country’s top jazz accolade, the VPRO/Boy Edgar award. Apart from having previously worked with the likes of Anna Homler (aka Breadwoman), Jasper van ’t Hof, Han Bennink, Louis Andriessen and Willem Breuker and her own solo projects, she’s in a league of her own.

Jansen is a big fan of Bijma’s 1996 heavily electronic collaboration with Jasper van’t Hof and Pierre Favre, Freezing Screens, and was with the friend who first introduced him to it when he bumped into Bijma.
Excited to meet someone who had made one of his favourite records, Jansen took the opportunity to ask Bijma if she would be interested in working with young electronic music producers. To Jansen’s delight, Bijma quickly agreed.

Weeks later, Bijma stepped into the studio with Oceanic, a rising star of the Dutch electronic underground whose releases as Oceanic for Nous’klaer Audio and BAKK Plafond revolve around mechanical rhythms, opaque ambient textures, minimalist melodic movements and effervescent electronics. The pair quickly connected on an emotional and musical level, with Bijma taking her cues from Oceanic’s electronic sounds and rhythms, and Oceanic drawing inspiration from Bijma’s dexterous, mind- bending and otherworldly vocalizations.

After two hugely productive days, the cross-generational duo had completed a couple of mesmerizing songs – breathlessly haunting album opener “Swallow a Party” and chilly ambient closer “A Window Drifting” – and recorded several hours or improvisations that Oceanic later edited, layered-up and re-modelled.

The results are little less than spellbinding. The range and versatility of Bijma’s vocalizations is breathtaking, while Oceanic’s music – which cleverly incorporates the free-jazz singer’s vocal notes, tones and proclamations – swings between becalmed beauty and breathless intensity.

Some of the set’s most striking moments are those where Oceanic re-contextualizes Bijma’s varied vocal sounds with the dancefloor in mind. On the pulsating “Technicolour Memories”, up-tempo “Step Snakes” and hypnotic “Never Done”, Bijma’s scat outbursts not only ride Oceanic’s rhythms, but also form part of the densely layered percussion tracks beneath.

Like the release’s more downtempo and ethereal moments, these hybrid organic- synthetic compositions defy easy categorization, offering a unique brand of alien electronic/acoustic musical fusion that lingers long in the memory.

With the second vinyl release of its new record label venture, Gegen showcases two staples of the Berlin club scene.

On the A-side, Berghain regular DJ, acclaimed producer and multi-label founder Oliver Deutschmann brings his signature sound of hyp-notic “8-AM-on-a-Sunday” big room techno. “Wach” (awake in Ger-man) has the kind of sound that builds on layers upon layers of skill-fully designed drums.

On the B-side with “Roadkill”, Gegen’s own residents La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard come up with a moody track carrying a weird combination of gritty and dirty synths with spacious sound design that make you wonder if you didn’t get thrown off the side of the Milky Way by a boisterous clunky spacecraft on its last leg.

On remix duty, Gegen is playing with its Italian roots in its choice of two newcomers: Mar/us and WarinD.
Making his producer debut with this remix, Mar/us, another Gegen res-ident, is coming-in strong with a harmonic tear-jerker full of pads ooz-ing with 90’s influences and whose melancholy is balanced out by a martial groove.
As for WarinD, he completely flipped the original on its head and swapped the moodiness for a kick-heavy hard-hitter adorned with ethe-real dissonant synths and brand new vocals.

Jondo's Little Princess EP sees Cologne's finest producer/DJ debut Dekmantel with a 4-track set of expansive atmospheres and reconstructed club tunes, alongside double bassist Maxwell Sterling and Australian producer DJ Plead.
Each track draws elements from the bass music trajectory, but effortlessly reassembles them in song-like arrangements that work just as fine in any headphone or home listening scenario.

The A-side has Jondo and Sterling team up for two dynamic pieces called "Dunkelziffer I" and "Dunkelziffer II". Whereas A1 serves drumless, RPG-like atmospheres reminiscent of Sterling's long-time collaborator James Ferraro, A2 is a full-on club joint packed with icy synths and complex rhythms that slowly eases into comforting ambient. On the B-side's "Whowhuwho", Jondo creates a powerful piece of instrumental-grime-turned-quasi-jungle with DJ Plead. For his remix, Russian techno prodigy Moa Pillar warps the already minimalist lead synth into an even more sparse yet effective dancefloor weapon.

If you know Dervaig is actually a small village in Scotland you begin to understand why the openingtrack of Sigward’s Balmung Beam EP sounds a bit eerie and dark. Long, long ago the Vikings came ashore at Dervaig (the word means ‘small inlet’ in Norwegian) but in the winter of 2019 Dutch producer Sigward uses it as a passage way to lead us into his new record. Balmung Beam is Sjoerd Sigward’s second EP for SoHaSo, the follow up for the well received Black Mambo-single from 2014. In the meantime Sjoerd moved from Holland to Germany, where he now resides in Berlin. This step has provided him with a cinemascope view on dance music, as his new EP clearly illustrates. Italo-esk flavors on the title track, meditative pulses on the beautiful Woodland Wells Inc and spacious Andy Stott-like tension on Jettison. “Media Burn” is the debut EP by TOTEM – 4 succinct slabs of industrial electronics and rhythmic noise forged in the spirit of hardcore punk. The project is loosely based on themes of media consumption, symbolism, illusions, and control. The artist embraces an austere process born of limited means: samples mangled beyond recognition and rearranged according to some obscure logic.

The results are self-described as “industrial skronk” – sculptures made entirely from audio debris that had another life, now twisted and repurposed by an unseen hand into something new and unfamiliar.

Silo EP is a strong piece of work from Berg Jaar for Planet Rhythm. Jaar is known for producing powerful & outgoing techno with an exotic touch to it. This 4-track pack covers a lot of ground and should be an excellent choice for lovers of Techno with a more artful approach.

Delta Funktionen touches homebase with a heavy double pack on Deeptrax Records: the label that originates from the recordstore he worked at before his international DJ career kicked off. On this double pack he presents a collection of tracks that were made between 2010 and 2020. These tracks never seemed to fit the more conceptual records DF put out, but they have been regular outfits in his DJ sets and always pleased dancefloors around the globe. A true honor for both the label and artist to finally team up and release some of the most playful house and techno cuts Delta Funktionen has produced over the years!

An off-kilter ambientoid trip, B-side opener ‘Clouds’ draws closer to The KLF’s chromatic blends, whereas ‘We Are The Future’ expands the scope to further utopian apexes with its soothing assortment of nu-agey panpipes and slo, Sino-flavoured chug. Rounding off that mini-odyssey, breaksy pastoral closer ‘What Is The Human Machine’ takes us on a trip-hop-informed, acid-friendly ride in the wild.

With a fundamental emphasis on the encouragement of genre hybridization, Evar Records, the Los Angeles-based imprint co-founded by Trickfinger (John Frusciante) and Aura T-09 (Marcia Pinna), continues its momentum with an expansive 9-track collection from Netherlands-based luminary, Limewax.

After making a strong first impression with its 2020 debut offerings, Evar Records has recruited Limewax to carry forward its mission of blurring boundaries and challenging conventions in electronic music. The Ukranian hard drum and bass hero happily obliged, referring to signing with Evar as a breaking point which allowed him, finally, to take full stock of his background in classical and electronic music simultaneously. Although Maxim Anokhin is widely known for his hard-edged breakbeats, releasing on labels such as Tech Itch Recordings, Position Chrome, Freak Recordings, and PRSPCT, the full scope of his artistry shines through on Untitled.

The opening cut, "Porcelaineworm," is a futuristic electro cut recalling IDM classics like AFX's "XMD5A." Of course, the virtuosic drum programming and hectic D&B sound which Limewax has built his reputation upon is here in spades on tracks like "Stay Lackey. Cuts like "Ushio" and "Whay1" are fascinating studies in contrasts—the former balances bludgeoning techno of the Ansome and Perc variety with a resolve that recalls Fennesz's pastoral glitch abstractions. "Whay1," meanwhile, is sub-rattling drum and bass nuanced by cinematic string themes. "Getupa" is an experimental beat track that truly bangs, its layers of texture and field recordings placing Limewax in the company of bleeding-edge acts like SVBKVLT's breakout star Hyph11E. The very next track, "19NB," is a subtle update to the original minimal technical template established by Detroit icons Robert Hood & Jeff Mills.

While most of the album hurtles forward at hard techno and D&B tempos, "Maleisae" is a sensual 70 BPM track mixing ghostly R&B and acid. That spectacular cut heralds Untitled's intricate denouement. The brief "Wernmqbram" effortlessly reconciles a baroque minor-key piano theme with the renegade snares of classic jungle. "Hasan" is a true "closing credits" master stroke, half-time acid giving way to gorgeous IDM-meets-Blade Runner synth leads.

Far from a genre-jumping hodgepodge, Untitled is a remarkably coherent full-length by a virtuosic artist free to explore the entirety of their creative influences. The Tilburg-based artist cites the poets Marina Tsvetaeva and David Whyte as influential on Untitled and also listened to works by 1771-1862 works by organ builders when crafting the album. The end result reveals Limewax as a masterful, diverse artist, capable of any style he pursues. It's a clear indicator of the boundless promise of Evar's core principle—a staunch refusal to put artists in boxes.

How does a musical production in the world of entertainment evolve and materialize? What happens behind the scenes of designing a musical idea?

It's amazing how music plays a vital role in the lives of people who believe in it. In a historical moment like this and with the music scene losing its identity, Supercinema records welcomes ITNA an artist collective to its world, consisting of Ezio aka SWRD, Edoardo and Luca. The three started in 2016 and after three years of working on this project, they returned aiming to implement a collective of ideas coming from three different generations with different sounds while trying to adapt to the contexts of a world that has radically changed. The idea was to create a musical journey by combining multiple genres in order to unite diversity and create a balance that brings the people of music under a single social flag.

The goal of the project lays the foundations of a path that encompasses all those contents, interactions, and expectations of emerging artists who relate to the external world, tormented and deconstructed, which through musical, cinematographic, and exhibition productions, to then move on to tormented artistic scenographic dynamics of the fashion world. The artistic collaborations will be aimed at the production of sound samples, beats, audio packages, and unreleased songs that will be part of the ITNA collective.

The band aims to implement a collective of ideas, embrace the general culture, interactions and above all to be able to experience ephemeral emotions in our days.

Since 2016, Milkman has been a pioneer in India’s ever-evolving electronic music scene. From building the foundations of India’s warehouse-rave culture, to consistently curating international and local artists at the forefront of the electronic musical underground, Milkman has quickly become a formidable force. Both editions of its festival, ‘Terminal 1’ were highly well-received, and this year, Milkman brings its first ever release as a label to the world.

Azu Hoyvoy’s music feels like it has a toehold in the world of left-field dance-floors, while also being comfortable in any post-apocalyptic sensorium you can dream up. This peculiar trait should not come as a surprise. The chaos, darkness, and simultaneous beauty of the city from which he hails all make for a hard cocktail of deep-uplifting-frightening-introspective fervor, spilling appropriately into this record.

The twenty-three-year-old Mumbai-native’s previous music is largely dominated by RnB and Soul, and in some ways feels like the proverbial Jekyll to Future Literature’s Mr. Hyde. To the extent that Azu’s previous incarnation still resides in his darker counterpart, it shows in Future Literature’s multi-faceted grooves and syncopations that are relatively unique in this spectrum of electronic music. This collection of tunes finds a very suitable corner in the eclectic and forward-thinking home of Milkman, and the result is an enjoyably mind-expanding, if sometimes disconcerting record.

Bambe, the new label run by Parisian artist Bambounou, presents its second instalment ‘Final Conference’ featuring 3 collaborations between the label head and Bristol producer Bruce, known for his deconstructed club cuts on Hessle Audio, Timedance and Hemlock Records. This is Bruce and Bambounou’s first time working together, expect detailed hypnotic rhythms with a postmodern edge.

Bambe is a passion project of Bambounou and follows the release of the well received ‘Cascade’ EP. The imprint is a space created for talent from diverse backgrounds coming together to use art and technology to create expansive musical experiences.

After 9 years from its first release, Marco Shuttle's hard to find eternal anthemic classic "The Vox Attitude" gets re-issued for the second time in a deluxe remix pack including both tracks of the original record (from 2011) and remixes by Atom TM, Pessimist and Marco Shuttle himself. Unlike the first remix pack that came out in 2013, and that was a single 12" with remixes by Pangaea and Joy Anderson, this second remix project will also feature the track, Spaziale, B side of the original first release. The Vox attitude which is the track that pretty much launched Marco Shuttle's international career is an anthemic metallic big room dubby techno tune, with strong sensual almost garagey vocal samples and diffuse percussions. Atom TM's rework of the track maintains quite intact many elements of the original at the beginnng, but gets progressively sprinkled with his trademark FM sounds and vocoder processed vocals very much reminiscent of his HD album on Raster Noton to end up with an epic synth line which unfolds towards the closing of the track. Marco Shuttle's "to the bone" remix is a very stripped down 4/4 grovy reinterpretation built around a what sounds like a very playful and wld Roland TR 909 live jam on top of which the single hit vocal samples of the original are layered in a way that they almost create a bassline that extends through the whole length of the track Spaziale stirs into a more dark heady territory with a haunting far reverberated bassline enriched by eerie trumpet sounding syhth parts in full effect Marco Shuttle style. Pessimist's remix is a downtempo broken track built around a heavy bass reworked version of the bassline of the original, resulting into a track in that full neo Trip Hop Bass Bristolian style the UK producer has so wonderfully executed on his releases on Blackest ever Black and his own label Pessimist Productions.

"Neon Lies" started as a synth-wave bedroom one-man project in late 2015 by Goran Lautar while he was still singing and playing guitar in Modern Delusion and The Celetoids, prominent bands from Zagreb D.I.Y. punk and post-punk scene. Soon after that initial period, the project already became a full-time one-man-band adventure.

Since then, Neon Lies toured and played shows endlessly, releasing two albums (“Neon Lies” and “II”) and now presenting his third full-length album “Loveless Adventures”. The 9-track album is a result of one-year making and relentless touring and it’s a perfect blend of minimalistic lo-fi darkwave sound of Neon Lies’ early stages when Goran was revisiting his teenage crush for early minimal synth-punk and proto-industrial, and the second album, when he was more into exploring experimentation with repetition, noise, electro and up to date sounds and ideas from European underground dance floors.

This album, recorded and mixed, as always, directly on tape by the man himself, finally brings all of this together in one deeply moving and authentic intimate disclosure of personal loss and gain, euphoria, happiness, and sadness. But no matter how much this journey was loveless, it was profoundly loveful. Dedicated to all the loners and their dealers.

The collaboration between Gino Pavan and Guido Frezzato began in 1995, with the creation of the soundtrack of Giancarlo Marinelli's movie "Scano Boa - Dannazione".

Gino Pavan recorded and produced, in his own "Noi Studio", the music of Frezzato, then given to an ensemble of 15 musicians, among them a strings quintet, and the folk ensemble Marmaja, along with the ethnic suggestions of the percussions by African Brothers. In the following two years, their collaboration would lead to the production of two albums for African Brothers: "N'der Tangana" and "Voodoo".

Followed by the soundtrack of "Alla ricerca dell’uno” (Searching for the One) with the musicians of the Compagnia dei Popoli, and the music for the dance-theatre performance of Belgian dancer Thierry Parmentier. Also worth mentioning, the album by Luca Xodo & Frezzato "Didjeridu", later to be used as a soundtrack for the movie "Case" (Homes) by Rodolfo Bisatti (Ipotesi Cinema). After twenty years spent piling up autonomous musical experiences, Pavan offered Frezzato to try their hands at a musical project that sees them, for the first time, composing music together.

The result is the "NOT LINEAR" project, a musical dialogue between electronics (Pavan) and acoustic instruments (Frezzato), using an "online" form of composition.

Recorded in separate locations, between December 2017 and February 2018 and subsequently mixed at "New Frontiers” studio by Ugo Bolzoni, "NOT LINEAR" collects, within these first 6 tracks, the fruit of this artistic collaboration.

"NOT LINEAR" is enriched by the collaboration of Pavan and Frezzato with two internationally-acknowledged, exceptional artists such as Giulio Aldinucci and Eraldo Bernocchi, each one interpreting a track of their choice out of all those initially selected out of the studio sessions, in a furrow of continuity of the "non-linear" concept that inspires this work. NOT LINEAR design has been curated by renowned visual artist Petulia Mattioli.

The second release on Club Qu Records is a pure sheller of an EP from two longtime friends with a mutual love for UK future sounds. Anthea, ancient greek for ,,blossom" is referring to Thrived as a concept of mutual growth. Cconsisting of four tracks threaded together by rolling percussive sounds and breaks. The two present a clear tendency towards modern UK Club sound, yet carrying a bit of past reminiscent Berlin Techno aesthetics. The artwork is created by the ClubQu community.

distributed by Shite Music. Abu honchos AXJ2000 and Paolo
Cicilioni make their vinyl debuts on this VA packed with hardhitting electro rhythms and raw emotion. Minos (Dubai),
Dufraine (Newcastle) and Reverie (Tbilisi) also make their vinyl
debuts alongside label mainstay Arp Laud.

Second volume of the ambient anthology edited by No Way Records: Haunting Memories Vol. II is composed of tracks made by ten artists, some of whom already present in the label's stable. From the metaphysical liturgy of Amarcord to the industrial of Traversable Message, from the sci-fi excursions of TVS, Dj Datch, Lius & Light Spheres and Mark Strain to the analogue sequences of Atypikal and Matteo Di Cosmo, from the syncopated rhythms of WTTM to the IDM of Mokship, Haunting Memories is a collection that offers a heterogeneous overview of the world of the most cerebral and meditative electronic music.

"Décalé. and Bongo Joe Records present an all new compilation placing the spotlight on the Swiss experimental and electronic scene of the ‘80s and the early ‘90s. The compilation Intenta assembles under-appreciated gems, sought-after titles and newly mixed versions. It places leftfield synth-pop next to otherworldly jazz, and joins the dots between lyrical post-punk excursions and proto-house experimentation.

The compilation covers a period of transition: When songs mutated into sounds. When synthesizers and samplers became the règle du jeu in DIY music-making. When a politicized youth movement slowly gave way to the hedonistic embrace of techno culture in Switzerland. Intenta mines the outer fringes of a scene yet to be. Many of these experimenters were pretty much on their own. Often the only way you would get in touch was at the local synth dealer.

A spirit of bold improvisation inhabited studios between Geneva and St. Gallen: these artists were articulating pop sensibilities (Air Project, Sky Bird, D-Sire, Peter Philippe Weiss), entering computer worlds (Claudine Chirac, Olivier Rogg, Carlos Perón), exploring exotic shores (Andreas Hofer, Bells of Kyoto, Fizzè), building future discothèques (Aborted at Line 6, Carol Rich, UnknownmiX) or finding glacial bliss (Dressed Up Animals, Elephant Château, I Suonatori).

The compilation was put together by Matthias Orsett and Maxi Fischer. Intenta unfolds as a sonic story that is laid-back yet energetic, sultry yet daring. The two crate diggers set out to meet with many of the artists arrayed here. Memories were shared, wine bottles opened. There were moments of sadness: Karl Lienert Löwenherz (Dressed Up Animals) and Claudius Scholer (Sky Bird) passed away during the making of this project. What remains of this journey into the backrooms of Swiss popular culture, is Intenta. If you listen closely, it will reveal a nation on the move. Beyond the Matterhorn, there is sweetness and light."
