With the 3-track EP Mantra JOIX opens a new dimension in his electronic music. For the first time he uses his own voice on a larger scale, giving it a machine-like sound that transforms and heightens the meaning of his German words.
The lead track "Mantra" refers to the techno movement in Germany in the 90s, which JOIX lived and breathed as a teenager. Those mystical experiences †staying awake all night in rooms full of light and sound †came close to the trance states attained by chanting Mantras. This is the main idea and the emotional inspiration behind this pulsating A-side track.
A touch of nostalgia also comes through "Wächter der Nacht". This tune channels the mysterious night, the search for ecstasy and self-dissolution in music clubs protected by the "guards of night".
Finally, "Klimax" is a dance-floor-banger that distinguishes itself by whipping up immense energy, and its space-filling melody and enormous hall cascades.

Nathan Micay introduces a new label into the Schvitz family: Eternal Schvitz, a home for re- issues of those most rare slabs of wax. The inaugural release offers a sampler of coveted tunes from the fabled Baby Blue Records run by Chris Simmonds between1990-1993. Almost impossible to find, these tunes have become a thing of discogs legend, offering up a snapshot into the label's short but memorable run. Lovingly re-stored straight from the DAT tapes of yore. To fight the evil no-ID-DJ forces currently at work, every release will be providing 60% of the cut to the artists and ensuring their credits are front and centre. The remaining 40% of profits will go to aequa, a Berlin-based collective with a focus on empowerment of women, trans and non- binary folks through gatherings for interpersonal exchange. Over a decade after the first LiveJam collaboration surfaced - on a strictly vinyl-only basis - an entire cosmos of interconnected artists, labels and releases have spawned off its mystery - a perpetual praising of the shadows that is less and less present within the underground. At its core, it instilled an ethos and a clear aesthetic both for the label’s regulars, and for the wider house and techno spectrum as a measure of quality. The initial collective, led and curated by founders EMG and John Swing, gave rise, together with the Analogue Cops, to the tirelessly anonymous APPOINTMENT project - an improvisational, techno-minded session - and the SPS moniker that includes talented producer Battista, with both sets of crews making a return after a long break from the label. Ten years later and the cooperative expands, finding mutual respect and admiration among two heavyweights of the UK house and techno ecosystem - house maestro, Mr G, for the former, and British techno luminary, Ben Sims, for the latter. Even so, this remains consciously limited to vinyl, and while they now have official support from two of dance music’s legends, it’s been earned through a dogged pursuit of Livejam’s founding principles. Simply, a physical production ethos from conception through to performance.

They started jamming together at Ballacid Studio in ?jpest around 2009 and did some live gigs, when then they finally released their first thing on tape on Farbwechsel in 2014. They are back now so, after 6 years, with some new fresh material (for the first time on vinyl !), two tracks of pure analog fun, mixing frequencies that are satisfying both for dancefloor and listening pleasure...straight acid for mind, body and soul. To make everything more crispy and fat, we called also on board two other giants such as rephlex alumni EOD and Clone/SHUT knight Ryan James Ford, that brought amazing own interpretations of the ogs. what more to say? it would not be up to us to tell it but... this is a BUY ON SIGHT : )

After the first classy, deep and aetherial 12" back in May 2019, B2 Recordings is back with it's second release, and here we see the labelowner Bengoa move things forward with a three-track EP of all original material following a five-year hiatus. Title-cut 'Forest Law' takes the lead with robust, organic percussion at its core while wandering subs, airy, circling synth lines and vocal chants ebb and flow throughout the groove to create a rolling, hypnotic groove. 'A Little More' opens the flip-side next, embracing a dub leaning feel with choppy stab echoes, crunchy drums and bumpy bass hits before 'Corponation' rounds out the release, laying focus on expansive voice murmurs, airy atmospherics and an acid tinged bass hook alongside loosely shuffling, jazz tinged drums.

This is the first time it has been repressed in over a decade, and its been done using the original masters -- coming from 2 wizards of Midwest Mastering. The A side was mastered by Mark Richardson at Metropolis (who later founded Prairie Cat Mastering) and the B side is complete with lock grooves cut by Ron Murphy. Manufactured in Detroit!

BTAIM resumes its line of raw techno templates with a pair of stripped-back but funked-up floor killers. Promising Berlin-upstart Tecture draws inspiration both from his hometown as well as Detroit, delivering two highly effective yet emotive club weapons. Their bold basement vibe may seem grim on the surface, but they glimmer with hope underneath. It is this very interplay between murk and melancholy that embodies the record with dynamic textures and a narrative. In similar fashion Trevino pairs imposing low end rumble and bright arps, reworking the title track into his own DnB-reminiscent signature style. With the addition of BTAIM006 to their catalogue, both artist and label have placed themselves on this year's watch lists for sure.

Desroi cuts his unrivaled skill to combine power and pace into four new tracks again. "Vermillion Border" draws from a dazed palette of concise and forceful sounds and thus raises the bar on his lasting run of EPs.
Tightly oscillating and resoundingly austere, the EP has its moments of stormy brutality that punctuates the mesmeric synth cycles to inspiriting elation. "Bright Blood" and "Gauze Covers Flaw" appear tethered at the base by cavernous low end and heady drum machine programming which drives the work.
Closing track "Empty Eye" might present Desroi's most funky work to date, rounding the EP off with a single warping synth motif shifting through sonic spheres.

A year since his tremendous debut release, Swiss artist ElektroBopacek's second LP entitled Space Adventures surfaces for Madrid based retroverts Mystic & Quantum, where he throws down some epic arpeggios that Bobby Orlando and Alden Tyrell alike woulds stand up and notice. Definitely one for fans of classic Dutch electro on the likes of Viewlexx and Kommando 6 or early Creme Organization. Highlights for us weren't limited to the explosive opener "Space Pilots" which sounds like Giorgio Moroder on speed, the infectiously feelgood Italo disco vibes of "Beyond New Frontiers" and the explosive closing track "Asteroid Pursuit".

Following the watershed madness of his ‘Yield’ tape for V I S, Meandyou. co-founder Herron unbuckles in rude and fractious form for Peder Mannerfelt Produktion, alongside the bossman’s
own remix.
Where Herron’s music was mostly 4-squared and greyscale until recently, it’s now rambunctiously off-kilter and swirled with iridescent electronics that appeal much more to our heads at least.
‘Billy’s Walk Home’ epitomises this new energy in a swarm of swanging electro and fizzing automated FX, while ‘Throwing Mud’ sounds like classic T++ swilled with gravel, and ‘Losing Spirit’
parries with chewy acid electro recalling Gescom, and ‘United Walls’ sidesteps into stranger eldritch folk melody and crunching vintage AFXisms. Bravo, lad. Peder Mannerfelt is also on hand
to resculpt ‘United Walls’ with a bolshier techno pressure.

Exploring the hidden crevices between the hardcore continuum, muscular house and vintage techno, Hugo Massien delivers four tracks that crackle with energy and intensity on the 'Ghost Note EP' - released December 5 on Dusky's 17 Steps.
Having previously contributed EPs to the legendary XL Records and DJ Haus' E-Beamz, Hugo's unique sound has won him fans as diverse as Roman Flügel, Shed, Bicep, Annie Mac, Batu, Maya Jane Coles and, of course, Dusky themselves, who previously signed his 'Restart The Sun' to last year's Floor To Floor compilation.
A sign of Hugo's instinctive knack for genre mutation, 'Ghost Note' signals a clinical groove hybrid of rolling jungle breaks and cyborg acid fire. Contrasting the breakbeat vibes with a stripped back techno surge, 'Speak To Silence' pulses with industrial soundscapes and clipped acid oscillations. Elsewhere the broken beat cinematics of 'Broke The Cycle' provide a more meditative excursion that blends rave motifs with classic ambient references, whilst the Transmit-nodding 'Messier 77' closes the EP out with vintage Detroit vibes.

First run on marbled vinyl!
During a career spanning decades, under a spread of monikers, Lee Norris has weaved musical gold. Shipwrec know this. Once again the dutch imprint delves into the Metamatics' archives to come up with audio treasures. Instamatic, released in 2014, is the source material for the "Instamatic EP" with four tracks being revisited from the album. As with all of Norris' work, a depth of expression can be enjoyed from the outset. Mixing elements of electro, electronica and IDM, "Neon Future Blue" is a warm textured and simply addictive opener. Subtlety and form are tinkered and toyed with in the ruffled edges and stark lines of "Cosmic Emotion" before the grandeur and isolation that is "Metamatix." Fragility and the ephemeral combine in the closer. "Haethear" casts whimsical notes to the wind, gentle currents shift as basslines bubble against crushed beats. Simply sublime from a true master.

4-track collaboration project between UK producers Ossie & Greymatter. Dancefloor house, techno and disco with distinctive raw, lo-fi sonics. Between them they have released on labels including Hyperdub, 2020 Vision, WOLF Music, Brownswood, Black Butter, Exploited and many more.
Greymatter is also a key figure at the legendary Mr Bongo record label. This release follows on from Greymatter's third full-length album 'No Blood Without', released in April this year to critical acclaim. 'Video Freaks' was originally penned for the album project, held back for this project. Ossie continues the momentum off the back of two EPs this year - "Space Odyssey" on his label SuperCali and "Milk" via Exploited Records.

Rising phoenix-like from a cultural choke hold of nanny state finger-wagging and colonial privilege comes phile. The dynamic live duo from Sydney debut on their own imprint with a five-tracker balancing confrontational, f'ck y'all attitude with surprising textural nuance and an attention to detail generally lost at these high temperatures. This marks the first release from Deep Seeded Records.Don't be fooled by the distortion and hard angles of 'Found In Blood' or 'Govern This' - the fine print betrays a knowledge of Dozzy-school headfuckery and concrete mise-en-scene. Meanwhile, Karina Utomo's blood boiling vox on 'Abhor' and the unlikely appearance of bass guitar and string quintet on 'Marauder' reveal that Hannah and Gareth (thankfully) have pedigree beyond the often stifled confines of good ol' dance music. Most would place this in the ""dark"" category but it's really just a source of strength.

Vatican Shadow’s impossible to find early tapes finally arrive on vinyl, kicking off a completist
series of new D&M remasters with a first volume featuring: ‘Byzantine Private CIA’, ‘Mural of
Saddam’, and ‘Yemeni Commandos’
Arriving under a shroud of anonymity in 2010 with the four tracks of ‘Byzantine Private CIA’,
Vatican Shadow has since become one of the most vital projects manned by Dominick Fernow
(Prurient, Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement). Daring to grasp the nettle of US geopolitics at a time
when nobody else would (and that hasn’t really changed), Vatican Shadow hijacked imagery and
text from a plethora of news articles, books and government publications, and used them to adorn
and title his all-instrumental compositions, recontextualising U.S. foreign policy in a way that
recalls how original industrial, noise and post-punk mutants used their art and music to express
feelings towards the cold war and western socio-economics during the late ‘70s and thru the ‘80s
- with a particular, explicit thread of inspiration coming from Bryn Jones’ prolific Muslimgauze
catalogue.
The first LP ontains all four cuts from Vatican Shadow’s first release, ‘Byzantine Private CIA’, taking
in the cold thuds and clamouring background noise of ‘Deny Military Involvement’ alongside
highlights in the militant trample of ‘Cairo Sword Unsheathed’ and the sludgy industrial dirge of
‘Gunman With Silencer’. The second LP follows with three tracks off ‘Mural of Saddam’, including
the brittle, Muslimgauze-like stepper ‘Schwarzkopf Arc of Triumph’, and the furtive trip hop of
‘U.S. M1A1 Abrams Exhaust Rises Between The Hands Of Victory’, before concluding with some
the project’s most sublime work in the opiated lushness of ’Shadow War In Yemen’ and ‘Asymetric
Warfare Studies Group Double Game’ from the ‘Yemeni Commandos’ tape.
Sounding more compelling than ever, thanks to the remastering at D&M, and with original tapes
now impossible to find for love nor money, these vinyl pressings of early VS gear are practically
worth their weight in gold.

Coloured Vinyl
From Mille Plateaux to Leaf, Staubgold and Raster-Noton, ~scape, or on his own label Ripatti, the Finnish artist Sasu Ripatti aka Vladislav Delay has been exploring various iterations of the dub culture vs. electronica, since 1997. His sonic crafts and unique signature sound has been sought after by an eclectic range of bands and artists, ranging from Massive Attack, Hauschka, Black Dice, Autopoieses, Animal Collective or AGF.
Somewhere between the old-school electronica culture, the soundscaping, the experimental paths of Lee Perry and Adrian Sherwood, ghostly clubbing anthems, minimalism, pop, jazz, without being, influenced, Vladislav Delay is building a drifting and coherent sound enigma.
Vladislav Delay met Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare (the most prolific Jamaican rhythm section and production duo) thanks to a series of jam sessions. Trumpet player Nils-Petter Molvaer had been asked by the Jamaicans to join them and he invited Delay alongside guitar player Eivind Aarset to tag along, which eventually turned into the Nordub project.
The result of these jam sessions turned into an album, mixed and mostly produced by Vladislav Delay, released on the label Okeh. It was also followed by an extensive series of live dates. This one-shot reunion was the beginning of another story: a trio composed by Delay, Dunbar and Shakespeare.
In January 2019, Vladislav Delay went to Kingston and spent some days at The Anchor studios, to record drums and bass with S&R, some voice takes and a series of atmospheric field recordings. This became a tribute to the 'dub spirit', but in a very personal way, far beyond any influence or "the obvious". 500-PUSH-UP is two worlds collapsing, merging, also showing some intriguing approach of the Jamaican groove, used as a filigree, like the echo or the ghost of reggae, converging and conversing with a post-industrial and experimental approach. One could say, &ME is following quite big footsteps when naming the A1 on his new
keinemusik-release 'Purple Rain'. On the other hand: Prince's shoe size might measure a
decent 4,5. That's not even big enough to collect the plaster that will crumble from the ceiling
after igniting this very floor epiphany. With this tune, &ME is following the path of reduction
and straightness, he already opened with his preceding releases. We'll find explicitness in its
lyrics, claps as gratifying as in an enduring spanking session and a carpet of white noise that
could be modeled after the addressed rain shower or maybe even after a smearing broom,
that's clearing the traces of sweat and the juice of arousal 'Purple Rain' most definitely will
leave on the dancefloor.
With 'Glaced' on the flipside, &ME is taking three minutes to build it up spectacularly, just to
change plans abruptly and throw it into another, quite unexpected direction. The then

For over a decade, this Neapolitan DJ and producer has been renowned for her hard-hitting techno tracks on labels like Redrum and Intec. She now debuts on Radio Slave’s Rekids, following the likes of Laurent Garnier, Spencer Parker, Hybrasil, P.Leone, and SRVD.
‘I’d Rather B’ starts with shaking percussions into soul styled vocals, fading out to deeper and darker tones, before ‘Pump It’ progresses into a smooth acidic background completed with a subtle groove undertone. Warp Records and Cocoon artist Mark Broom returns to Rekids with two remixes of ‘I’d Rather B’.
The first leads with a stomping bass and rupturing sirens, generating an atmospheric aesthetic from start to finish, whilst the second focuses more on the groove – introducing piercing claps, rattling hats and small bursts of vocals cries as the track continues to build.

TOWER OF ACID is the latest release by Toronto electronic music scene veteran Heiki(Hey-Key), the man behind the infamous Toronto EBM project,Digital Poodle.The vinyl edition features five tracks of relentless, industrial-strength, jacking acid house.A radical departure in soundfrom Heiki’s previous albums, which mainly focused more on downtempo, ambient dub techno sounds, Tower Of Acid, as the title implies, is a pure acid house record. The album relies on analogue 303-style synth sounds and acid house/new beat/industrial influenced rhythms. Most of the recordings were made in a single live off the floor pass. Later edits and over dubs of shortwave radio bursts, phased analogue synthesizer pads and vocoded voices were added to the electronic wall of sound. Themes include abuses of power, fraud, failed populist charlatans and fake news, running rampant in this increasingly dystopian times.

Improvisation is the core of Bugge Wesseltoft's and Henrik Schwarz's collaboration. Technology and the joy of playing often meet and beautiful creations are formed somewhere between machine and human, balancing like a mobile delicately around a centre. For "In Spite Of Everything" the duo plays on two opposite grand pianos. One is driven by Wesseltoft's emotional piano playing and the second is a so-called player piano, in which the keys are driven by motors and which Schwarz controls in real time with a computer program written especially for this piece. The program is highly reactive and sensitive, creating a sparkling piano duet of pulsating energy and wild dynamics.

Hypress makes a fresh start. New look, new artists, new team,
a new release as a double LP. Lots of rosé wine in a studio
refrigerator and a running gag should do the trick. No crazy
idea. The label's largest work to date serves as a work show
and at the same time sharpening its own portfolio. Various LP

The off kilter dub waltz of '16-16' stutters into view with a heavy and heady rolling dread, whilst inaudible vocal snippets and flatlining synth lines echo and enforce a melee of repetition and danger. 'Fitness Talk' perhaps best showcases Assel's interest in Dubwise production techniques, and his ability to soak up a palette of sound and turn it into something truly his own. Soft familiar bass pads provide the backbone here for all out sample mayhem, a space where recognisable dub effects and sonars vibe alongside absolutely unsettling outer samples of jarring vocals and inaudible upset, purposefully mixed to jolt ears into unfamiliar territories.
Being the Nephew of DJ Marcelle, this experimental approach and inspiring concept of pushing samples to the absolute limits of their origin to create a new unexplored path is clearly something that has been fed down from Marcelle to Robin throughout his youth. Assel strives to convey the same elements of anticipation, surprise, and suspense in the listener as he himself experiences during the production process, and it is this successful translation where the power of Assel's music lies. As also is the case with other contemporary acts that push the boundaries of electronic music such as N.M.O & N1L, there is this almost tangible and terrifying physicality to Assel's sound, yet it retains an undeniably subtle workout groove. Perhaps this groove is enabled by the obvious dub and techno influence throughout the EP, both through Assel's utilisation and realisation of the importance of the space in-between and his striking use of samples which seemingly dart out of nowhere, intentionally beaming from the mix to transform ears to that next zone
'Barbecue Stains' and 'Pantoffels' up the pace with layer upon layer of technoid strictness. Grooves come and go throughout, never settling in one spot for too long, but rather opting to explore the dramatic effects of each differing loop cycle and heavily treated vocal sample, again reinforcing this impression of Assel as a producer who never takes the easy path, or follows any kind of musical rule, but rather always looks forward for new angles to approach composition.

Italian talent Cioz and German duo Super Flu join forces for the first time to deliver the impressive Jodi Bush, due to be released on Crosstown Rebels this September.
The release begins with the progressive sounds of Jodi Bush. Rattling hats converge on staggered synth stabs, whilst guitar plucks provide an emotional aspect to the record. Body Juice fills the B-side in a similarly emotive fashion, with gentle bell chimes and warm, poignant keys.
Inspired by the sounds of Stimming, David August and Stephan Bodzin, Cioz is an artist whose sound does not fall far from the tree of those mentioned already. Melodic and winding in a manner akin to his contemporaries, the Italian is beginning to make real headway in the scene with releases on the likes of Monaberry and now Crosstown Rebela. German duo Super Flu are prolific producers in their own right,
with their tracks finding the perfect home on the likes of Moon Harbour and Mule

CTRLS takes a hard line of attack on the groove, lashing dissonant layers of analog machine funk over brute force percussion. KEY Vinyl is Freddy K's most recent contribution to the techno community - an imprint founded in 2009 that stands for tradition as well as progress. This year's relaunch of the vinyl-only platform signals Armeni's return to the fore of techno advocacy, releasing the bruising brand of techno that fuels Freddy K's colossal DJ sets.

De Sluwe Vos (Dutch for 'The Sly Fox', a name derived from Aesop's fable of the Fox and the Crow) is the newest addition to the Dutch house and techno scene. His productions are supported by artists such as DJ Sneak, Joy Orbison, Boddika andBicep. Moreover, De Sluwe Vos has a packed tour schedule and travels many miles for all his national and international gigs.
With strong hooks and dirty kicks as his specialities, De Sluwe Vos has released multiple tracks on labels like 4Lux and Slapfunk. Lately, this cheerful producer from Dutch city of Deventer has even been gaining a foothold in the pop scene. His gig at Noorderslag did not go unnoticed: national music platform 3voor12 named him the best act of the festival.
De Sluwe Vos mixes various styles to create his own 'signature sound' with which he manages to constantly keep himself at the center of attention. His 'OG Anthem' is possibly one of the most notable tracks of the moment, this underground hit found its way to the surface and received airplay on both Dutch radio station 3FM and BBC Radio1.
With his discography, De Sluwe Vos is constructing a steady career. But he's not one to stay hidden away in the studio: he's at his best when dominating dance floors in clubs and at festivals. His ultimate goal is to bring the crowd to a higher state of mind, where worries simply disappear and the music takes over. Time and time again, De Sluwe Vosprovides proof for the big bang theory with his performances. Whether it's at Awakenings Festival in the Netherlands or at Together Festival in Cardiff: during his shows he is pure energy. His duet between his Roland TR- 909 drum computer and turntables is always a bold endeavor, just like his stage diving.
The fact that he is a fixture of the club scene is proven by his monthly international gigs, his own night The Core and his notorious live act. With the audiovisual show 'Kontra live', De Sluwe Vos is well underway to becoming 'one of the greats'. And that's no fable!

The album »Pillars of Salt« creates a space of freedom and activity in which Ozan Tekin shows his various skills as a keyboard player and producer, but also turns his innermost to the outside: Nothing sweet or narcissistic here. Three of the seven tracks were produced for the independent Turkish film »Tuzdan Kaide«, which had its premiere at Berlinale 2018. The surreal epos is transformed into a seductive hypnosis, not least thanks to Tekin’s music. Danish producer Asmus Odsat debuts on Iceland's FALK DISKS with four leftfield dancefloor cuts entitled 'Ecstatic Half Truth' this September.
Before moving to Iceland, Asmus Odsat was a key figure within Copenhagen's electronic music scene for nearly a decade. A former resident at Culture Box, Odsat was also co-founder of Ritual Malmö as well as the BULK club night, which has hosted artists like Surgeon, Dasha Rush, Lucy and Sleeparchive. Odsat now joins FALK DISKS, the club focused sub-label of FALK Records (Fuck Art Lets Kill) with his 'Ecstatic Half Truth' EP, receiving early support from names like Courtesy who included it in her guest mix on B.Traits' BBC Radio 1 show.
'Deal With It' sets the tone of the package with frenzied synths, warped atmospherics and a crunchy kicks before title track 'Ecstatic Half Truth' delivers a cacophony of percussion alongside twisted melodies and off-kilter breaks.
Up next, fast paced arpeggios meander alongside metallic top lines and a filtered 303 that unfolds throughout, making way for 'Soften The Clocks' which rounds off the package utilising disjointed rhythms, intense acid sequences and thundering low-end throbs.

French label Bright Sounds welcomes prolific Dutch artist Boris Bunnik for a new EP under his most celebrated alias, Conforce. The regular Delsin artist saves this project for his more dance floor driven work and that is the case across all four of the atmospheric tracks here.
'Virtue Signalling' is slick techno that mixes up sci-fi sounds with cavernous dub pads. It's cerebral and cinematic as well as being driven by the rubbery drums. 'Black Mesa' is darker, with a meaning synth line coming in spurts over punchy, broken drums. It's grand in architecture but still has plenty of rich sonic details. On the flipside, 'Compulsion' is more watery, with little life forms suspended in a backlit ocean above slippery drums, then 'Alka' is another underwater affair, with beams of light penetrating from above as a dubbed out groove undulates way down deep. Once again then here, Conforce marries form with function in exquisite ways.

French artist Franck Kartell returns with Alaska, his fourth full length release on UK imprint Bass Agenda Recordings. Critically acclaimed for his masterful blend of low bpm heavy beats and signature deep atmospheres Kartell moves from the fascination with the work of film maker Chris Marker's that powered his last two albums to the drama of Alaska. Time Passages boss Binh is a big fan of Innershades. LET Recordings boss JP Enfant returns to his own label for a third solo EP. The Dutchman, who is a resident at De School in Amsterdam, mixes up techno, breakbeat, ambient, dub and house into his own long and all consuming tracks, and on his latest EP he does that once more. Spacious and elastic grooves aimed at the body and the floor. Once again, this versatile and robust offering from JP Enfant is another standout release on the young label.

As with the first SchleiBen series, Emotional Response follows the success of the second set of split releases with a stand-alone album by one of the highlights, in Neil Tolliday.
Recorded over a 17-year period, the ambient, drone and noise pieces collected here offer a glimpse in to the depth of a supremely talented, thoughtful and at times, troubled musical mind.
As his love for house music and the success of his Nail moniker grew and waned during the ascent 90s boom, there followed his somewhat surprising success as one half of Balearic-pop combo Bent, propelling Tolliday in to a world of indie-charts and endless touring. The eventual unhappiness of this 'music career' and increasing need for personal escapism led him start experiment new musical forms of expression.
A thinker and oft-over drinker, success was viewed with a deep suspicion and introspection, drug use and later, depression. As his other music projects slowly imploded, this new, personal music was for many years, made purely for Tolliday's own absorption and comedowns.
Taken from an initial 4 track recording in Nottingham in 2000, more pieces were subsequently recorded around the globe on numerous devices - old portable cassette recorders, hand held digital stereos and even mobile phones. These heavily manipulated samples were slowed down, reversed, smudged and stretched before analog and modular patching, Mellotron, editing, programming and post production were added to the melting pot.
With hundreds of tracks collated, in the last few years Tolliday began putting them out via Bandcamp using different aliases, on made up record labels, with no press or mention to anyone. This would happen every 6-9 months - a new label was created with logo, band/artist names and a few albums worth of music, leaving it there for a few weeks before then deleting the lot.
Here then is a snapshot of those recordings, chosen to represent the depth of music, while trying not to think too much about in to the emotions that were used in making them. With special hand painted artwork by Sam Purcell, commissioned from the artist's own photographs taken from a adjournment at Homerton hospital, the hope is to do justice to such wonderful music and present Neil Tolliday, finally an artist, shorn of pseudonyms, in a broader light.

Solid Uncoated returns with its second release, again compiling four productions from the inner circle of its network. D'Evoé opens the feld with »Failures«, a gloomy and cavernous hardware track resembling the bassline and pad recipe from S/U 001 in a more offensive manner. Next up is Arian Alexander, one half of the Monogenic duo, with »Pakchoi«: A lesson in sub-heavy, effective purism, pushing sparse chord stabs over a swinging 909 rhythm. Opening up the fipside there is Bool again, another acquaintance from the frst 12", delivering his trademark peak-time sounddesign within a massive, morphing chord sculpture.
The circle is completed by Sub Accent from France, another newcomer to the S/U family, represented here with an amtmospheric track of industrial-leaning, widescreen ambient techno. Limited to 300 hand stamped copies.

We are not alone. Through the centuries we have created theories, heard stories, made films, and of course, music that is deeply inspired by the idea of the unknown, and the cosmos. We went far and deep into this cosmic void to gather 4 visionairs to help us present a new series on the label. "Visitations - Chapter 1", touches down through sonic dimensions with Damon Wild, Ben Sims, Steve Bicknell and Tadeo. These artists are amongst the few key figures who established the foundations of Techno music and continue to do so decades later.... Their influences are also undeniable to the aesthetics and sound of "Chronicle" and so we are more then honored to present each one of them on our new series. Their contribution to this compilation is of extraordinary measure, connected both in vision and purpose they provide us with extraterrestrial sounds that challenges the listener both intellectually and emotionally with each track standing strongly on its own while functioning in a cohesive way bringing the vision of Chronicle Records into focus.
After three years and ten EPs, Amsterdam's Will & Ink label offers up its first full length from label favorite Yaleesa Hall and is called Woodall. It explores texture, space and sound design in fascinating ways. Since 2014 Yaleesa Hall has released four EPs on the label and has become known for breakbeat laced stripped-down techno. This debut album finds the producer indulging a less dance floor focussed version of his sound, and one that is better suited to the full length format. Explaining that his tracks most often start as "sound structures and experiments" that then get reworked for the club, here they stay closer to their original forms. Woodall is sound sculpture that is electronic and synthetic but also made of real world sounds that are all truly absorbing. Comes in gatefold sleeve.

The product of an old friendship between Akatana and Ombossa, this is an album that has been written after the two artists lost touch for nearly 20 years.
We met at 3 years old and were the closest friends until early teenage, we then lost touch completely until recently when I moved out of Montreal to Berlin, where Akatana lives. We
now are flatmates and friends again after this long hiatus. It happens that we both followed a path to producing electronic music, even tho playing music was not a thing at all for us at
that time. Each of our separate lives somehow brought to this common ground. This happy hazard inspires us.'
The album is written at 84bpm because we were both born in 1984 and the tracks are named after the lexis of the heart. Myocarde is the muscle of the heart, in french.

Belgium's 'Raving George' dispenses of her alias on her debut ep for Turbo Recordings as Charlotte de Witte.
The 23 year-old Studio Brussel resident DJ has quickly made a name for herself following EPs on Bad Life and a massively successful collaboration with Oscar & The Wolf (which actually sold 15k copies in Belgium alone). Shedding her alias here, Charlotte shows she's ready for prime-time with this expertly crafted EP of big-room techno.
Lead track 'Weltschmerz' sounds like an instant Berghain classic; dark, massive, trippy, and with an emotional character all too rare within the genre. The kicks are banging, the verbed out percussion is fierce, and it all moves around a haunting melodic breakdown that artfully dances on the right side of 'progressive.' It's a killer track that perfectly sets the tone for the whole record.
'Damage Control' is a straightforward flex-a-thon, a housier rhythm that struts along confidently. The technical term is 'floor-filler.' 'Lonesome' brings the emotion back, with it's super-tense, unresolved melodies, this is perfect for all your mega-club yearning & gurning needs. 'Relatives of None' is the nastiest of the bunch, and probably the most at home on Turbo, built around a screechy synth hook. Finally, 'Weltschmerz (Melodic Theme)' provides an epic ambient outro, crystallizing the emotional tones of the EP and establishing a sense of artistic vision that ascends well beyond the pedestrian.

Dublin's R.Kitt, fresh off the back of an incredible live throw down at AVA festival in Belfast sent us through some divine music we absolutely had to have. "Ripples from the Edge" shares five sentimental yet forward thinking originals from the rising producer as well as a remix from label founder Eluize.
The title track comes at us with cascading arps, ariose droplets and pure, smokey pads that burst through a jungle of thumping percussion. "I Wish You Hadn't Said" gets going with gritty breaks and glassy synths that would be at home on a fog laden warehouse floor, mood lightening melodic jabs slice through before things turn back to a tumultuous minor. "Strange Perspective" is casual and light hearted, funk charged electro.
On the flip "Stitch Up" feels ancestral, heavy bass, earthy leads and a dark and enigmatic vocal hit heavy. Damhsa, the Irish word for dance, inspires the next jam, "Machine Damhsa", a fast paced 4/4 beckoning to do so. The track's breath catching breakdown gives a moment of transcendence between it's boundless energy and pulsating drive.
Eluize couldn't resist the lush melodies from Ripples and dives in to turn out a cosmic, 80s touched b boy ready version.

Brendan Gregoriy (aka Chymera) returns to A Strangely Isolated Place with his second album under his synthesizer-based ambient moniker Merrin Karras, titled Northwest Passage. Brendan's 2016 debut 'Apex' was needle-point precise in its execution; quantized MIDI notes and sequencers bought unmistakable energy and flair. With 'Northwest Passage' Brendan aimed to create something a little slower-paced and blurred in nature. To achieve this added dimension, the instrumentation is primarily Wavetable and FM synthesis, as well as his small arsenal of analog synths. The result is a glacial feel, reminiscent of the mystery and adventure of the Arctic. The Northwest Passage is the sea route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic, which is normally only accessible in the summer months. Unfortunately, this passage is opening longer each year due to climate change. With a slightly heavier mood across its eight tracks, the epic, expansive and confident textures and colors of Merrin Karras are however, still instantly recognizable. The star-gazing drones of tracks like 'Passage' and 'He Became Something Else', sit alongside more energetic, pulsing pieces like 'Meridian' and 'Monument'. 'Crevasse' stirs up the drama of a classic synthesizer soundtrack and album closer 'Dominions' brings the turbulent waters to an icy froth. Northwest Passage is a unique take on music that can engulf and enthrall.

Italian production duo natural/electronic.system. is back on their homebase Tikita Recordings. With four immersive deep techno cuts they continue the journey they've started when debuting on the label back in 2016. Now they could be seen as one of the key figures on the Moroccan based imprint with 'Mediterranea' being their third full EP on the label.
'Scirocco' starts in a deep mood, on low pace and mesmerizing percussion improvisations. 'Grecale' is the most swinging cut of all four with its tribal drum flow rambling on a playful up-tempo groove. Flipping to the b-side 'Libeccio' comes in at a lower bpm but still an unavoidable catchy and danceable motive where 'Maestrale' ends this playful EP with a lush and dreamy electro jam in deep blue space atmospheres.

Mysterious Berlin label MASK return in 2020 with a vinyl only release consisting of a pair of raw cuts entitled ‘Marilyn’.
MASK preserve their esoteric philosophy of delivering well-crafted, modulated house and techno cuts produced on hardware equipment and ‘Marilyn’ certainly follows suit. MASK releases are the result of anonymous artists live jamming together in unison with the first five releases picking up support from the
likes of Laurent Garnier, Marcel Dettmann, Elena Colombi, Machine Woman and many more.
The A side is 13-minute voyage featuring fluttering, resonant drums, lo-fi synth stabs and growling oscillations that take the focus in the later stages while on the B side sweeping pads, spacey undertones and squelchy, acid soaked sci-fi elements keep the sonical experience obscure yet fascinating throughout.
The “Under Frustration” project takes stock of the contemporary Arab electronic scene, and highlights its astonishing diversity, by deconstructing Western clichés that are still fantasizing about a culturally homogenous Arab world.

Up next on Lawrence English‘s Room40 label is Argentina-born, France-based composer Beatriz Ferreyra with her Echos + album. Ferreyra has played a hushed but critical role in the development of musique concrète since its early days, working with the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) directed by Pierre Schaeffer, with whom she collaborated during the writing of his Solfège de l’Objet Sonore. Echos+, one of only a few collections of her work available on vinyl, collects three of Ferreyra’s most affecting pieces, each of which explores questions of mortality and the afterlife.

This new release by Colin Potter, "The Abominable Slowman", is the logical follow-on from his previous 2015 LP Rank Sonata'. Like that album, there are elements that were recorded many years ago, but this work also contains new music. Again, the emphasis is on rhythm, although the rhythmic components range from conventional drum sounds to strange electronic and/or mutated outbursts, often accompanied by squalling guitars. As to what this sounds like, keywords would be soundtrack, experimental, ambient, electronic psychedelia, contemporary, drone.... There's constant experimentation throughout the album, a search for never-before heard sounds to create obscure atmospheres and a pleasantly disturbing feeling of disquietude.
The LP is housed in a beautiful grey cardboard sleeve, hand-printed by letterpress, and die cut to reveal the printed inner sleeve, which features a number of pictures of The Abominable Slowman during the recording of the album at IC Studio's current London location.
Colin Potter has been a central figure in the UK's DIY and post - industrial underground since the late '70s. His ICR label, founded in 1981, blurred the lines between post - punk experimentation, crude pop, Krautrock - inspired drone work and contemporary electronica, with releases by everyone from DIY legends The Instant Automatons through Chris & Cosey of Throbbing Gristle , experimental composer Trevor Wishart, drone soundists Andrew Chalk and Darren Tate and Bryn Jones's Muslimgauze. He has also been a key collaborator with both Current 93 and Nurse With Wound, working in the studio with both groups since the late '90s as well as serving as a member of Nurse With Wound's current live line - up. From the late '90s to the late '00s Potter's IC Studio, based in a Victorian Water Tower outside Preston, was a lightning rod for musicians working beneath the radar and a focal point for the nascent UK drone scene. Recent years have seen an upsurge in interest in Potter's solo works.'

The first release of 2017 from Edume and Nicolas Lutz's "multi-disciplinary art platform" (that's a record label, kids) My Own Own Jupiter comes from Spanish analogue freak Do Or Die. It's an expansive, intergalactic debut album featuring nine scorching, tried-and-tested dancefloor treats. Highlights come thick and fast, from the racing deep space bleeps and razor-sharp acid lines of body-jacker "Mr Insane" and psychedelic-minded electro-acid shuffler "Brahmsstrat", to the deep and galactic techno/electro hum of "Osst" and rush-inducing deep house bliss of "Posthuman (Part 1)". Also worth a listen is "Norse", in which Do or Die fuses bleep-era Biosphere with the mechanical funk of vintage Chicago jack.

Empty Vision provides the next pillar to the structure of Lanthan.audio and is the latest project of the italian-rooted Damiano Di Cagno. In addition he was able to convince Distant Echoes (Dystopian) and the well-known Chris Stanford to paraphrase his Visions.
Vision I gives an insight into a deep, abandoned space, reminds on a far away valley. Leaving it is accompanied by thundering spheres impressively.
Distant Echoes grasps this tension and turns it into a delightful and powerful interpretation which gives an affirmative spirit. Vision II goes ahead with a strong foundation pursued by congenial bizarre but memorable sounds that send you through the apparent infinity. Flattened with wide open spheres results here in a very solid dancefloor weapon.
Chris Stanford follows in similar manner, the foundations are well recognizable but he manages it to present the track in a different shape with putting his own stamp on it.
The last track - Vision III - slides us formally into our deepest core, before it opens in full beauty and rescues us from all vicious visions. It remembers us to the most important thing we are capable of giving, love, light and compassion.

Absolute' is a full-on contemporary electronic concept album', entirely written, composed and played by Gino. Eight tracks, where Gino explores the multiple dimensions of the concept of the absolute, experimenting on guitars, synthesizers, electric sitar and percussions, on a 30 minutes journey into darker territories. With every sound originally crafted by Gino in his studio, and a compilation of videos created as a visual companion for each track, Absolute' sheds a light upon the music he always wanted to release, revealing his erudite background as a musician/composer.

Improvisation is the core of Bugge Wesseltoft's and Henrik Schwarz's collaboration. Technology and the joy of playing often meet and beautiful creations are formed somewhere between machine and human, balancing like a mobile delicately around a centre. For "In Spite Of Everything" the duo plays on two opposite grand pianos. One is driven by Wesseltoft's emotional piano playing and the second is a so-called player piano, in which the keys are driven by motors and which Schwarz controls in real time with a computer program written especially for this piece. The program is highly reactive and sensitive, creating a sparkling piano duet of pulsating energy and wild dynamics.

Following on from Bodyjack's landmark "Nataraja EP" this summer which marked the 10th DEXT release, we welcome back our good friend Lo Shea to the label to continue the next phase in our journey. He comes to us fresh off his recent outings on Rekids and Dusky's 17 Steps, His first DEXT EP 'Durga' is one of the standouts from our early catalog.
We first heard "Activation" when he dropped an early version at our Fabric takeover earlier this year, and it grabbed us immediately. What essentially starts off as a super sharp rhythm track ends up very differently. This is a DEXT track through and through without a doubt!
Liam delves into his drum and bass roots for 'Pressure', marrying rolling broken beats and dark rave synth work but cleverly keeps the tempo right down and really adds to the sense of foreboding.

“The North Bend is about the Pacific Northwest region of the USA, where I lived at the time the album was made. Still, today I consider that region my spiritual home, even though I am now living on the East Coast I had met Lawrence English in Poland back in 2009 and he kindly invited me to make a record for the label. I was a fan of his releases so this was really an obvious thing for me to say “yes” to
and a chance to create something special. I had released a few EP’s & and LP under my name, all influenced by the so-called “modern classical” ambient style pioneered by the late great Jóhann Jóhannsson and minimalist composers like Harold Budd and Arvo Pärt. The North Bend is the first work that dealt with “place” and explored a locality, the first in a series of recordings all released
with Room40. Since this album came out, I’ve left the Pacific Northwest for another location, New York state, which couldn’t be a starker contrast from the life in the PacNW. I had to start from scratch here in NY, as everything I owned until age 36 was stolen the night before I left to drive to NY. It was both a curse and a blessing. Not having the baggage & pitfalls of old ideas was wonderful, but also losing all the recorded & written works I had was harrowing at the time. Remastering The North Bend seemed like a natural thing for me. Not so much as revisionist history, but rather thinking how to make a record sound in a certain way without being able to revisit any of the mixes. In other words, the creative choices I made at the time (2010) are 100% preserved, there wasn’t any opportunity to revisit those, but rather make the record sound as good as I can framed through hindsight and a decade of separation from the period it was created. “

Fans of Electro's big hitter DJs such as Helena Hauff, Dave Clarke, UMEK, Maceo Plex, and UMWELT won't have escaped the sonic assaults of Dutch artist RXmode and his fellow Transhumanism collective members; w1b0, Slaves of Sinus, TFHats.
RXmode's last EP 'Cerberus' was very much the EP he'd been building up to since his debut on Bass Agenda Recordings back in 2015; dark, sinister, heavy, and distinctive.
One of the tracks from that EP, 'Degraded', gets the remix treatment from the other Transhumanism members on this, the third vinyl release the collective have put out.
The original track kicks things off in style before the three very individual remixes take things to new territories. TFHats takes the track, remoulds it and adds his own lyrics and vocals to great effect. W1b0 brings what will certainly be looked back on as one of the heaviest tracks of 2018; his 'Violation in G Minor' mix is a brutal sonic assault with a bassline that will surely wake the dead. Last and by no means least Slaves of Sinus brings an abstract acid tinged version; laced with his own brand of sinister vibes and darkness.
IIt's time for an overdue reunion as a long time friend makes a return to the Upon.You family with a new vinyl exclusive single these days. And of course we're talking about the Belgium-born Sammy Goossens, better known as Sierra Sam to all lovers of quality TechHouse beyond, who is about to release his Remember Me' 12 on our vinyl only offshoot UYX Series in fall 2k15. The original version of Remember Me' causes us to gravitate straight towards the center of the club, sporting percussion layers as hot as a tropical night out and well-morphed sample wizzardry with a classic, dry windy city touch. Later on we're carried away by positive, uplifting stab sequencing and an energy overload that sends punters to ecstatic heavens for a reason. The next variation on Remember Me' is the 'Pascal Hetzel & Sierra Sam`s System 100 Mix' - a way darker affair on the technoid side of things. Psyched out, Acid-induced synth lines meet a threatening, slightly distorted drum foundation, frizzling high-hats on overdrive and devil'ish, psychotic vocal processing from hell. 100% underground bunker music for those who know. Finally we see Upon.You-founder Marco Resmann on remix duties for Remember Me", catering a fascinating, highly energetic, yet dry and tool'ish cut on the original track for maximum dancefloor frenzy. Watch out for siren synths on fleek!

Master of ambient spaces and far out places, long-time Finnish producer Sasu Ripatti (aka Vladislav Delay) blesses us once again with another release, this from his 'Visa' period of unreleased tracks.
The first track out of the gate is a recognizable Vladislav Delay piece, but instead of gently flowing rivers of sound, instead we have a series of stiff, machine-like rhythms applied to his classic infinitely deep pads and ambient environmental sounds.
It just continues to pile in more elements until becoming almost indistinguishable from his natural, organic flow.
From there we move into somewhat more familiar territory but still unusually stripped down and mechanical for a Vladislav Delay joint.
It’s fascinating to see such an intricate songwriting process laid bare in such a way, often exposing each individual, nearly bottomless sound in isolation.
Deeper into the album, things veer into decidedly more abrasive and synthetic territory, at times becoming an almost unrecognizable artist for a moment, only to be eventually subsumed under layers of shifting ambience that could only be Sasu.
This austere minimalism makes these tracks some of the most hypnotic since the early 90s excursions, but at the same time seems to have left its organic, analog roots and melded with the harsh gridlocked modern sequencer. ~Clint Anderson

Tyyni is the third album by Finnish-born sound artist and musician Cucina Povera aka Maria Rossi. The second album recorded using a more studio-based scenario – as opposed to last year’s Zoom, a collection of in-situ, spontaneous recordings – Tyyni feels like a slowly unfurling mediation on the clash between nature and mechanical living, a rumination on the complexities of modern life that begin to unveil more about the inner landscape of the artist as it progresses. A Finnish word referring to still, serene weather, the title belies a new note of turmoil in Cucina Povera’s soundworld. Tyyni represents a more detailed focus on the sculpting of sounds that curl around Rossi’s hymnal vocal performances. It’s a more adventurous work than Rossi’s previous output that goes further into noise elements and vocal abstraction while maintaining the balance and ecclesiastical ecstasy of her debut Hilja.
While tension at the core of Cucina Povera is always prevalent, previously it was organic sounds that were used to counterpoint Rossi’s singing but on Tyyni these are often replaced with aggressive synths and distortion, profane clashes with the seemingly sacred hymns. Whether close mic’d and intoning in a loop or in full flight, Maria Rossi’s voice remains in the foreground, set here against a more synthetic backdrop. This development builds new worlds for Cucina Povera, a digital environment which brings in a sense of the alien for Rossi’s vocal to duel. The effect is often dazzling. On Salvia Salvatrix, an ode to the medicinal plant used to ward off evil spirits, Rossi’s invocation is encircled by a distorted synth sound tearing at the fabric of the composition. It’s an inspired juxtaposition, leaving the listener to appreciate both sounds as separate and as a duet. Anarkian kuvajainen embraces a sense of chaos, an accidental transmitting mobile phone’s pulse is swept up gently with looped synth swells as Rossi’s prayer-like vocal rhythmically teases the composition into loops that embrace and then drift apart. Teerenpeli flirts with a minimal beat rendered by sampler and processed, layered field recordings of capercaillies, while Side A ends with one of Rossi’s most beautiful, simple tracks yet recorded. Varjokuvatanssi is an a cappela recording built on top of a wordless glossolalia, a shadowy interplay which foregrounds the solo vocal.
Pölytön nurkka is the most melodic song yet recorded by Cucina Povera. While it still maintains an off-the-cuff performance style, the synthesized chimes and 4/4 beat are smothered by a distorted synthesizer which almost replicates the bravado of an electric guitar feedbacking into the night. Rossi’s subject matter talks of trying to start anew, getting rid of extraneous material, perhaps still feeling powerless to affect positive change. On Haaksirikkoutunut, the protagonist vocal is lost, a vessel rudderless on the ocean, buffeted by waves metaphorical or real, digital, atonal chords gurgling and splashing against the bow, a storm forever brewing on the horizon. Saniaiset recalls Coil in its eldritch, nocturnal tone and digital-bell like synth, Rossi’s half-spoken/half-sung voice attaining a creepy tone before flipping into flight. Album closer Jolkottelureitti uses an escalating, sequenced synth that splinters into both abrasive tones and harmonising chords creating a kosmische effect, reminding the listener of Kluster or synth-era Popol Vuh, all the while elevated by Rossi’s searching vocalising.
For an artist with such a singularly unique musical language, Cucina Povera is continually teasing new strands and emotive tones from an evolving palette. Most importantly, Tyyni appears to be pulling back the veil to uncover an artist finding a synergy between her own emotional inner world and practice. As such, on her third album, Maria Rossi has found a third way between abstraction and extraneous emotion, personal experience turned inside out to reveal more about the listener.
Dez Williams returns to Mechatronica with Forlorn Figures in Godforsaken Places, dropping a stormy dose of diverse electro and machine funk for the Berlin based label.
Speedy, relentless electro cuts 'Xen' and 'Carkrash Vikdim' make up the A side, driven by haunting samples, rumbling basslines and eyes-down energy. Hypnotic roller, 'On the Verge', opens the flip with dazzling keys and forceful drum programming, before 'Tromb' rounds off the EP in murky fashion through a robotic, hazed electro chant.

Under his Klankman moniker, Maarten Epskamp brings his own twisted take on techno with a lavish amount of acid. Displaying a free-form DIY approach of rhythmic electronic music with an intuitive compositional approach. The result might sometimes be experimental and certainly be intriguing, but the dancefloor is never far away.
Part of the current crop of artists spearheading the UK acid revival, Posthuman's output has evolved over the years, encompassing many genres & styles from their early electronica releases, to their later acid & slow-mo techno.
Their debut release in 2000 was a series of hand made CDs simply called "Posthuman" (though better known by the colour of the card inserts - grey, black, blue and brown). The duo then went on to host a number of parties in an abandoned underground train station in London between 2001 and 2004, and founded their own label Seed Records (2) with which they released 3 albums and several other releases of their own and other artists material. They also were the first act on Manchester based imprint Skam's SMAK sublabel.
Doherty left Seed Records to help relaunch UK techno imprint B12 Records in 2006, and started a new label Balkan Vinyl in 2010.
In 2007, Doherty founded London-based acid house retrospective clubnight "I Love Acid", where Posthuman are monthly resident DJs. In 2014 the clubnight launched a vinyl-only label of the same name. He also performs as AGT Rave Cru and as one half of Altern 8 live shows since 2015.
