St Theodore presents his brand-new EP – Last Dance, which is the second part of “Mortal Strike” EP was released on Land Of Dance Records (Italy). There is a slow, true immersion in cold and even sometimes frightening work. Minimalistic basslines, cold synthesizers, simplicity and accuracy of compositions cause
aesthetic delight. The classical TB-303 sound takes to memories of raves in the buildings of former factories, where you always feel very far from reality. The title track «Last Dance» catches hopeless motives and plunges into a darkness. "Decetiful Idol" sounds like a first-class banger. «Riddles Of September» envelops. Electro version of the track «In The Darkness Again», which original version released on Land Of Dance Records (Italy), sounds as danceable and hot.

The Acid Series celebrates over 10 years of No Way Back, with music that directly references that experience. This is the third volume in the series, to be followed by BMG & Derek Plaslaiko, and there will be four more after this pair, with records by Tin Man & Ectomorph, Dona, Romans, and Pervocet (Patrick Russell & Jasen Loveland) yet to come. They all arrive in a unique sleeve especially created for this series, inspired by the decorations of NWB. Jordan Zawideh's music perfectly reflects his personal migration from Detroit to Chicago. It somehow combines the raw elegance of a Larry Heard demo (listen to the demos of ''A Path'' or ''Acid Dreams'' and cry) with Detroit Techno and an unconscious take on the sonic exploration of Drexciya, showcased in songs like ''Magellanic Cloud'' and ''Trails of Sophia''. In Jordan's sound, the raw power of the cassette era of Chicago House combines with a Detroit Acid Dream. His debut record was on K Starke Records in 2014, and while he was working at the store, the concept for ''No One (Jacks The Box)'' came together. Kevin Starke proposed a concept for a collaboration, using an old Chicago radio ad, so Jordan borrowed a 303 & 707 from Kevin and some gear from Beau Wanzer, but Kevin never made the session. Ultimately we had master editor Gay Marvine edit this instant lost classic. Jordan has also released on the Nation box set, and is part of the No Way Back family. Jordan lives like a monk, in total dedication to learning his machines and advancing his craft. He is also an accomplished DJ. BMG on his edit of ''Magellanic Cloud'' - this is my fantasy version of this jam, its so lost in it, like a cool mature Chicago take on Gerald's jam for the Silicon Ghetto series on Accelerate, or Mika Vainio's ''Spirality''.

The electro revival that had ushered in the new millennium was in full swing and this was to prove a seminal tune, being voted track of the year by Groove magazine. As if to prove a point the bass line still grabs you the moment it drops, while the laser-guided melodies feel as relevant today as they ever did. Now with this limited hand stamped whitelabel Dutch master Benny Rodriguez aka ROD steps up under his new Younger Rebinds alias with even more intensity than demonstrated on last year’s ‘Sound of Benny EP’ on Running Back. Picking apart the original with almost forensic attention to detail, he gives new life to each individual strand in the form of two exhilarating mixes that seem destined to leave their mark on dance floors around the globe for the foreseeable future. Remix one strips things down to the raw, dirty basics giving the phasing bass riff some real breathing space as the hook line slowly unfurls amid a flurry of filtered ADSR madness to create absolute havoc. A series of peaks and troughs ensue, as Rodriguez effortlessly toys with the crowd, frying the synapses and gorging on serotonin, as the mix motors relentlessly to its conclusion. Remix two replaces the precision of the first with a more freestyle approach that’s in one hell of a rush to get going. The bass line rips through the mix, hihats scurry toward the cavernous, arpeggiated breakdown and we’re drenched in reverb as the synths dovetail dangerously, paying homage to the hioctane energy of the original.

Following releases from Trevor Jackson and Jack Latham (Jam City), this new 12" on Utter features a rare alternate 'Dry' version of legendary Post-Industrial/Ambient group O Yuki Conjugate's 'Insect-Talk' from their 1995 album 'Equator' alongside contemporary versions by Tolouse Low Trax (Salon Des Amateurs), Howes (Cong Burn / NTS Radio) and OYC themselves. The record includes an insert illustrated by Andrew Hulme (OYC) and each outer sleeve is hand-stamped with insects in various formations.

Enzo Siragusa adds fuel to FUSE's milestone 10-year anniversary with the release of a metamorphic album that draws influence from the London institution's cultivated sound, as well as the capitals '90s rave heritage that so heavily influenced their decade-long dominance.

On A Decade of Rave, Enzo presents a cross section of his sound - one that has refined this fusion of jungle roots with house, creating eight straight-talking dance floor cuts that capture the essence of FUSE raves over the years, and two ambient tracks that lean on lengthy quests behind the decks. The music spans across two years of studio sessions and exhibits Enzo and the FUSE label's biggest work to date.

Starting with 'Beautiful Emi', then shifting through 'Stromboli', 'Mixed Emotions' and 'Paradigm Shift' all geared in their own way towards the many faces of house music.

Iceland's Dynkur debuts on FALKdisks with four thunderous cuts entitled 'Tschu¨ssi' EP.

Dynkur is the creative alias of Thordur Arnarson who's been working with sound for over twenty years through DJing, engineering and instrument creation. Dynkur represents the rough side of Thordur's sound with exploration and improvisation being an intricate part of his process. Arnarson experiments by morphing beats and textures together which can be heard not only in his recordings but also in his live shows with an appearance at Sonar in his hometown of Reykjavi´k coming up later in 2019. Dynkur's 'Tshu¨ssi' EP sees him join FALKdisks, the sub-label of FALK (Fuck Art Let's Kill) following the likes Asmus Odsat and Jo´nbjo¨rn, as well as AAIIEENN and Lord Pusswhip on the main label.

'Trk01' begins with resonating kicks, acid synth zaps and undulating, angelic pads before 'Errrare' maintains the gritty sound design delivering sharp modulations, pacey drums and eccentric, wavering tones. Raw elements layered with pitched down, distorted percussion and shrilling oscillations make way for 'Arecibo' until 'Ocean of Sound' finishes things off with haunting synth keys, esoteric vocal samples and machine-like pulsations thudding in and out of focus.

Techno, Midwest Trap, Grime and Breaks synthesised This may sound like a rather experimental combination. Nevertheless the outcome of Leibniz' latest innovation is a very DJ friendly 4-Tracker called - Quake'. The artist is co-founder of the hundert label, half of the projects DJ OK and DJ Bwin and responsible for releases on Shtum, Ratlife, Ortloff and Fourth Wave. 'Orbb almost dodged Jay's rocket'. Mastered by Beni Brachtel aka Bartellow. Artwork by Paul Bernhard and Arthur Poitevin.

Following the release of their short film 'The Awakening' and its accompanying single, Lost Souls Of Saturn share the first remix in 9 years by revered musician James Holden. Over thirteen minutes of crisp, stratospheric elegance, Holden’s rework is both slightly mad and simultaneously blissful – like a trance-state reached through frenzied, spiritual ritual.

“I believe in serendipity: if the universe presents you with something that seems right, you should go with it”, says Holden. “When this record hit my desk was one of those moments. Recently I'd been thinking a lot about rave utopias, the pan-global fantasy painted by the early days of Future Sound Of London etc, and listening to LSOS's Jodorowskian ceremonials I felt like they'd caught the same winds. And so, although I thought I'd finished doing remixes for this lifetime, here it is; some kind of dream of a memory of a rave, the spookiness of the original slightly eclipsed by my warm feelings about Seth's good energy!”

The original version of ‘The Awakening’ begins as a serene ambient spacecast, before an ancient alien rite of tribal frenzy starts to emerge through the phosphorescent stardust – sonically somewhere between Demdike Stare and classic Orb, by way of Don Cherry.
Primarily LSOS are Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa, plus further opaque participants congregating to combine music, imagery and storytelling into an inextricably linked whole, all wrapped-up in a philosophy of their own making.
Attempting something creatively that’s above-and-beyond, LSOS explore new ways to open doors of perception and challenge the reality vs. simulation paradigm, whilst capturing the spirit of Philip K. Dick, Sun Ra and the KLF within their music, live experiences and films.
These spiritual, psychoactive aural vibrations resonate for a long distance, all the way back to something deeper and more enchanting than the prosaicism of modern life:
“We have been sent synchronistic signs from a metaphysical plane. We are the glitch-seekers, exposing the Holes In The Holoverse. We are Lost Souls Of Saturn.”

Six years have passed since the events of Welcome to Mikrosector-50 and Mr. 8040's subsequent meltdown that saw him almost destroy himself across the width of the entire galaxy.

Although everything is better now that Mr. 8040 has overcome his taste for space dust and vecta grog from Quadrant PVLN - It has not been so simple and he has been quietly returning to full capacity over the course of the last year.

Once again in our time, Mr. 8040 finds himself secluded in his electropod - cut off from the rest of the planet.

Floating somewhere above Madagascar, Mr. 8040's experiments in galactic funk have taken many forms in his attempt to rediscover the groove that made him love this planet so much in the first place.

Daniel Avery broadens the exquisite sonic universe established on last year's critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Song For Alpha, presenting the collected B-sides & Remixes. Showcasing cuts from the album's writing and recording process, as well, Avery also invites a number of his contemporaries and some of the most vital underground producers in the world to rework his original material, with transformative results.

Luke Slater takes care of the album's high-tempo centrepiece, 'Diminuendo', the obvious choice to take an already pummeling rave highlight in a direction that arguably hits even harder without sacrificing anything cerebral; Slater's dense, swarming synths wrap around the original with catharsis.

German duo Obscure Shape & SHDW twist 'Projector' into an irresistible, warehouse-tooled rave weapon, transforming the understated source material into a groove-focused anthem that recalls the no-nonsense spirit of nineties rave.

Avery's studio neighbour and partner in PSSU, Richard Fearless offers up the most brooding cut with his take on 'Days From Now', delivering a texturally rich and boldly minimal deconstruction that oscillates between industrial gristle and weightless suspense, ultimately shining light on a creeping, patient melody.

"Matthew" is nailed together with driftwood from around the world. The waters of Italy, the pubs of London, birds of Japan, a phone call in Los Angeles.

Sullivan moved from California to London in 2016. Living in London was a pivotal time for Matt, as I see it. This record digests that time. Each sound on Matthew means something very specific to the artist. Locales and memories focus to mind as passages rise and sink. Us listeners cannot know what transpires across the speakers, however. Our own narrative is quietly built. I like records that don't concern the audience, ones that make you invest yourself; this is one of those records.

Fans of Sullivan's music know that he never gives an inch more or an inch less than he needs to. Bold and looming with few extraneous elements. Ekhein, Matt's former cassette label, and his new label, as of yet without name, also carry this motif.

Two side-long pieces, expertly woven, constitute this album. I admire Matt's ability to play with proximity and depth of field: fading sirens, ripping waters, and digitized breath. Like an hallucinating Bill Fontana, the two works are sensory travels folding into themselves. Matt is once again living in Los Angeles, and thus the nostalgic mist that forms within Matthew is all the more meaningful.

We discovered the church in Kyjatice three years ago during our irregular wanderings across southern Slovakia. We were completely enchanted by this well hidden medieval building standing over the village, surrounded by sunny fields and dense forests. We asked ourselves how we could bring life again to the church, how we could fill it with sound which would not interrupt the contemplative character of that specific environment.

The result should have been the sound intervention which would awaken and reveal every corner inside of the church. Just for a moment, we wanted to caress all the monumental fresco paintings, creaking wooden benches, pipes of howling organ, hand painted ceiling and carved saints by sound which could release them from the long guarded and abandoned silence.

In the two compositions for vibraphone she wrote for mappa editions, Sarah Hennies analyses the psychoacustic dimensions of space. Sisters is a sonic exploration which opens the space between the rough walls of the church, an infinite pulse penetrating into every crinkle, hole and fold. In the sense of her quote "When you pulse one note on a vibraphone for 20 minutes, why do you need to do anything else?", we witness the fullness of one single tone, disappearing resonances and gentle changes, which reveal various performative, spatial, psychic and listening situations.

Sisters was a challenge for Lenka Novosedlíková, who is slovak composer, performer and organizer. Novosedlíková is well known distinctive figure of the youngest composers generation in Slovakia. She moves across contemporary composition and interpretation (percussion instruments), improv or electronic music projects. She is member of Cluster Ensemble which is renowned Slovak ensemble with many international achievements.

The church in Kyjatice is a sacred place of mappa editions. It blesses all our activities. It's a place of inevitable distance from our everyday life. Here we find distance from our everyday lives.

In 2017, Bartellow deviated from ESP Institute's celebrated Tambien, the Bavarian trio (alongside Public Possession's Marvin and Valentino) whose two prior releases had stormed castles across the land, and graced us with his debut 2xLP Panokorama. He set a high bar for discerning listeners, painting grand gestures from a rened palette and bending unconventional audio sources into a rich textural melange. Now, two years later, a motley crew of producers reimagines two of Bartellow's captivating album cuts. Side A leads with a blistering bastardization of Sala Sensi by Florian Kupfer, a down-and-dirty mechanic from the neighboring L.I.E.S. camp who's built a base of thick relentless drum patterns that batters beneath disorienting machines and a haphazardly stabbing piano. Following this, Stockholm depth-charger Skudge strips away the lth, reducing Clypp to a few tidy elements and focuses on their warm hypnotic nature. Side B holds a distorted mirror to its former, leading again with Sala Sensi but Chateau Flight's Gilb'r twists the music into an exquisite corpse, a loose amalgamation of late-night sessions from his Amsterdam studio interwoven as one. Rounding out this bizarre exercises is another remix of Clypp by longtime collaborator from Osaka, Ground—this reciprocates for Bartellow's remix of 2018's Logos—and the musical approach here is somewhat of a Ground calling card; playful, psychedelic, organic and dripping wet. Upon rst listen, this collection may feel disparate as utensils in a kitchen sink, but with time spent pinging between all four corners, we discover a sense of freedom in amongst their disengagement, an unapologetic 'fuck you.'

The latest release on Dublin label First Cut sees Esoteric Orchestra drop three tracks of the deepest of deep house and techno. Inspired by a trip to Italy.

Female vocal styles from Kenya, rewound as state of the art dance music: Four enthusiastic remix versions from four european electronic producers who magnificiently revisit ON MANDE, the latest album by kenyan vocalists OGOYA NENGO AND THE DODO WOMEN'S GROUP.

OGOYA NENGO AND THE DODO WOMEN'S GROUP are deeply rooted in the folk music culture of the Luo communities in Siaya County, western Kenya. Since 2013 producers Sven Kacirek (Hamburg) and Stefan Schneider (Düsseldorf) have regularly recorded with OGOYA NENGO at her village near Lake Victoria. Right after the release of their debut album RANG'ALA (Honest Jon's) the group has frequently been invited to extended touring in Europe and had quickly drawn a lot of attention from very diverse audiences.

In this respect ON MANDE VERSIONS is the first liaison between the traditional approach of Dodo music and contemporary electronic dance music.

LENA WILLIKENS (Comeme) saw Ogoyas breathtaking performance at Köln Stadtgarten in 2016. For the ORUTU RUN version, she took individual sound samples from different songs of the album. Orutu (a traditional kenyan one stringed instrument), a blow whistle and some vocal harmonies combine hypnotic strumming with propulsive rhythm machine patterns, only occasionally accentuated by shouts from a whistle.

MIX ZWEI by TOLOUSE LOW TRAX (Salon des Amateurs) is an intensely sparse signature mix by one of most original and prolific producers of today's electronic music. Captivatingly growing drum beats reflect the lovely sung vocal line "Where I see you I am here!" and relocates it to a momentum of after midnight funk.

As the shamelessly odd title already suggests, SORBE PEKINGESE by DON'T DJ (Borceuse Heroique) is an unrelenting excursion on digitally pitched vocal samples. Glistering frequencies all over the mix and MAXmsp treatments which expertly morph female vocals into a stunning alien imagery.

BUNDE DUB by Berlin based producer ORSON (Version) takes some complex Ohangla drum patterns to tight and powerful effect.

Unknown artist starts this fourth instalment with a murky ambient track on A1 before delving into trippy xylophonic techno on A2 and finally going full out mental on A3.

B1 starts with a more restrained cut - but that's just a ruse, you are in the eye of the storm - because B2 with its frantic pace picks it up for a fitting brutal final of a well rounded, versatile techno record.

Berlin techno collective STAUB is about to celebrate six years of existence. STAUB runs monthly daytime events at Berlin's ://about blank club. Line-up stays secret, and main focus is on the music. During these years, STAUB travelled to Detroit, Bogota, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Milan and more.

Fourth release of STAUB will be out on Irakli's new label Intergalactic Research Institute for Sound, and will be available at the event STAUB 6 Years Anniversary on February 22-23.

Since Josh Butler secured the crown for 8bit's biggest selling release in 2018 Nick Curly & Gorge couldn't wait any longer for the follow up to his 'Rabbit Hole'. So here we go with 3 new house bombs to celebrate the start of a great year 2019.

The sound of sheet metal, ripping slowly, suspended in low gravity. Screaming in slow motion, claustrophobic and encapsulated. This is the result of Nino Pedone's reworking of Mumdance & Logos' dancefloor deep heaters 'Chaos Engine' and 'Cold', taken from the 2015 LP 'Proto', also released on Tectonic.

No beats, pure drama. Each of Shapednoise's versions pull the original tracks deep into a chasm of crushing reverbs and grinding atmospherics, stretching the originals to their limit - and well beyond. Prepare yourself for a journey that will take you deeper into the darkside.

Deaf Center's second album Owl Splinters from 2011 gets a lavish re-packaging as a gatefold 2LP. It includes the Svarte Greiner re-interpretation album Twin as well as new cover-art with photos by cinematographer Joshua Zucker-Pluda.

Owl Splinters was originally released 6 years after DC's debut Pale Ravine. In contrast to their previous work, it was recorded in a studio setting (Nils Frahm's Durton studio, to be exact), and the lo-fidelity, haphazard techniques of their early recordings where all but gone. With the benefit of high-end engineering and analogue equipment, Erik K Skodvin and Otto A Totland's murky compositions were transformed from sketches into glorious widescreen spectacles. 8 years later the album sounds as moving, beautiful and obscure as it did back then.

Twin is a 40 minute interpretation of Owl Splinters by Erik K Skodvin under his Svarte Greiner alias. The record takes the long-form, ghostly sections of it's parent album and expands them into crushing drone epics. The two parts are cut into four sections, pieced together by used and unused material from the recording session. It first appeared in form of an accompaniement CD that came with the initial 100 LPs of Owl Splinters. This is the first time Twin appears on vinyl.

techno and 303 extrusions, plus sidewinding psychedelic dance music, recorded and edited
between 2010-2019 for his pals and admirers at iDEAL
Synonymous with Gothenburg’s iDEAL for the past decade, Dungeon Acid has become the most
vital of drummer and producer Jean-Louis Huhta’s many projects, following a musical arc since
the ‘80s which has seen him variously play with crust punk group Anti Cimex (and tour the UK
alongside Napalm Death in a van with no seats), become a member of cult Swedish rave band
Lucky People Centre, play ritual rock tribalism with The Skull Defekts, and duel with electro-
acoustic heavyweights such as Zbigniew Karkowski and CM Von Hausswolff.
Yet for all his stylistic versatility, Huhta’s heart has consistently been found in tough, driving and
psychedelic strains of house and techno indebted to Detroit since the ‘90s, and that inspiration
comes out in unexpected ways across his first Dungeon Acid album proper. Working within this
square but malleable meter, Huhta’s playfully deep character burns through in his persistently
detailed tweaks and hypnotically layered productions, where he’s unafraid to push into the red or
lower the tempo and croon like a shaman conducting ancient rites.
In 9 parts he effectively joins the dots between the psychy, punkish dance trax of Börft Records
and the Motor City mechanics of Underground Resistance, generating a singular, machine-
borne but organic flow with big highlights between jelly-limbed acid opening, through to steely
warehouse hammers, a slow and skudgy hymn to nose drip dynamics, and two belting barrels of
warped Biker Bar funk that would surely make the grade in the 313 any time between the early ‘90s
and now.
Dungeon Acid is brilliant testament to the art of marrying mutually exclusive bedfellows as much
as it is a masterclass in dare-to-be-different house and techno, all done with hard-won skills,
natural personality and warmth, with history and future at the front of the mind.

A meditation on loss, narrated by Roger Robisnon and produced by Kevin Martin (The Bug), ’Solitude’ sees KMS gut out their sound following the bittersweet shoegaze-dub blooms of their ‘Edition1’ 2015 collaboration with Fennesz, resulting in a starkly noirish elegy to extinguished romance and love in the endtimes

Combining the grown-up, confessional vulnerability of Robinson’s lyrics and dreader-than-dread delivery with the most stripped back arrangements in Kevin Martin’s entire catalogue, the duo drill deep into emotional sufferation with simultaneously suffocating yet somehow beautiful results. Over the course of 12 songs, they glacially limn a coming-to-terms with a loss that has been enforced or unexpected, and ultimately arrive at the starkest conclusions with cinematic effect.

’Solitude’ pushes King Midas Sound’s pessimism to heart-rinsing degrees. Staging Robinson in a series of vantablack scenes veiled by smoky, minimal synth-lighting, the poet processes irrational and incessant feelings of rejection and loneliness. From the aching desolation of ‘You Disappear’ to the unflinching realisations of ‘X’, the ache imparted by Robinson’s lyrics is only amplified by his quiet stoicism, while Kevin Martin finds power in a sense of deferred gratification and his embrace of negative space.

The effect is nothing less than transfixing in the physicality of Robinson’s descriptions and the detached nature of Martin’s sferic electronics on ‘In The Night’, while pangs of lush optimism lend an exquisite contrast to the desiccated riddim and gloom of ‘Alone’, and the sylvan keys in their sensuous reverie, ’Her Body’.

‘Solitude’ is a more than worthy follow-up to King Midas Sound’s two albums for Hyperdub and their collaboration with Fennesz for Ninja Tune. It’s bound to reset what you know about KMS, and become a go-to album for anyone going thru conscious uncoupling, domestic strife, or meditating on love in the age of info overload.

smog’s music has been on a steady path towards monumentalism since emerging out of the recesses of Berlin in 2015.

Originally from Paris, growing up cutting his chops in the capital’s hip hop undergrowth, the young producer makes music that is as challenging as it is evocative. On “sequel’70” – his debut album – bass, techno, electroacoustic music and jungle are rung through his singular take on the hardcore continuum. The production is powerful, dynamic and geared to bulldoze the dance. It’s clear why the likes of Resident Advisor have tipped smog as an “important artist to watch” and why his tracks have been appearing in sets from artists of the calibre and creative range of Objekt, Donato Dozzy, Samuel Kerridge or Go Hiyama.

With his debut album, smog lays bare a world of start and stop mechanics. Tracks twist and turn through stuttering panoramas of crashing beats, majestic peaks and post-rave intensity. On its most moving moments the gorgeously burnt out cinematic pads of “Mécanique Oblique” are a particular highlight – “sequel’70” feels like coming up in the middle of an industrial wasteland. It’s almost as if the end of the world wasn’t such a terrible prospect after all.
Jungle architectures are pulled apart and reconstructed on “Gelid”, “Dazzle” and the phenomenal “Abschluss SCAN”. Souvenirs of gabber echo through heavy handed kicks and speaker defying noise blasts. IDM inflexions creep their way in opportunistically, but even at its most abstract – album midpoint “Straightforward” sounds like a geiger counter being set off – it all sounds more like the possibilities offered by the future of rave rather than an attempt at paying homage to the genre’s heritage.

There’s a special energy and irreverence to smog’s music and there’s deep reflection in how he connects the dots of the subfamilies of rave. His attention to sound design would almost be worth the trip alone, but the album remains superb even at its most disorderly.

As the pop charts continue to speed up with euro-trance inflected R&B dross clogging up the upper echelons of what is considered popular these days, Apollo Records returns to soothe the senses. As the world around us frantically loses its head, there's a sea-change going on in underground music - a shift towards slowing the tempo down. The recent R&S label's resurrection has firmly planted it back as one of the most forward thinking electronic labels, but with A&R and operations now based in London, Renaat Vandepapeliere, original founder of the legendary label, is at the controls of Apollo from his base in Ghent to release the music he loves.

Over the years Apollo has heard the likes of Aphex Twin (Selected Ambient Works Vol 1), Robert Leiner, DJ Krush, Cabaret Voltaire & Biosphere pass through its ears. With R&S mainly releasing audio aimed primarily at the floor - especially in its first more techno led incarnation in the 90's - the Apollo output was something so distinct, that it had to be enveloped in its own home. Skewed more towards the more minimal forms of this electronic art-form, on Apollo releases if the beat encroaches it's more likely to be of the low slung variety.

Step forward Manchester's Joe Synkro to champion the soundscapes of the newly resurrected canvas. Effortlessly transcending electronic genres with his brand of deep, bass driven music, Synkro is primarily known for his dub-step and two-step production on Exit, Blackout Music, & Med School. With a wide range of thoughtful and, at times, beautifully delicate sounds he's picked up plaudits from corners as diverse as Instra:mental, Giles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs and Chris Coco. The past few years have seen his sound mature and him master various tempos with his original output. With this four-track EP we listen as Synkro examines the deeper side of his psyche and takes us into landscapes as yet uncharted.

Reflective and contemplative, the warm swathes of synths and contorted vocals on opener 'Broken Promise' lay the mandate for the journey ahead. A muffled kick drum sits low in the mix, keys drift through the ambience and you can just see that first chink of sunlight on the horizon if you look very closely.

'Why Don't You' is a slow jam of sorts. Stuttered Manchester sulphuric soul with guitar licks to boot, you're transported to the depths of a low-ceilinged New York basement. The track's vocal hook is a call and response that wouldn't sound out of place on a SBTRKT production or in one of Wolf & Lamb's slo-mo get downs. 'Memories of Love' continues where 'Why Don't You' left off. A reply.

I might be mistaken but 'Knowledge' to these ears echoes the sounds recorded from Jupiter on Nasa's voyage to this far flung planet. One of the most naturally foreboding sounds I've heard and which many a producer tries to emulate. A low-slung, almost tribal rhythm creeps into the mix, giving way to what sounds like dialogue from the actual space voyage

It's difficult to dissect each track too much as the whole release was obviously constructed to be listened to in its entirety in those late, late nights and early mornings when perceptions are warped and senses distorted. This EP cements Synkros increasing prevalence amongst his luminaries and the incredible envelope pushing going on at the moment in the electronic music world.

Second reissue of Teersom's two part 12" series. Hard, gritty, consistent but also genuinely free flowing. With it's non-hit focal point it's always cemented in basic & core elements of techno as known from basement environments. Sides are stylistically only separated by the hard hitting cymbal introduced midway on Side-B, elsewise they complement each other as versions.

Swedish electro-dubstar Andreas Tilliander does a mean pair of acid dubs for Dub On Arrival, a new wing of Joachim Nordwall’s iDEAL Recordings institution

A longtime affiliate of the label, both under his own name and also as Mokira, Andreas Tilliander is a prime candidate to kick off their 7” dub series, bringing decades of echo chamber experience to a brilliant pair of sloshing acid dubs.

In signature style on the A-side’s ‘Expect Resistance’, Tilliander smudges the contours of a 303 and chirruping melodica until they resemble a curdled, lysergic reflection of Jamaican dub proper, highlighting its inherent links to house and techno.

On the B-side ‘Respect Existence’ he goes slower, more spacious and plasmic, like one of Rhythm & Sound’s drowsiest, a la ‘Roll Off’, but merged with early Plastikman-esque acid for a tactfully trippy, psychedelic effect Tilliander can safely call his own.

A2: Mr. Max takes us down the Cavelerra highway; Starting with a solid and sparse veneer, turns into a wicked acid-filled warehouse jack. Throw in a strobe and some smoke and away we go.
B1: Old school maestro goes into stormy moody mode. Applying the simple counterpunch with a long and winding synth line, Edgar sneaks in a menacing acid line – teleporting you into the deepest corners of dystopian space. Definitely some shamanic tendencies going on here.

Figuring out who'd do the remixes wasn't an easy task. YPY is back with his third full-length album, his second on EM Records, following his 2016 debut Zurhyrethm, and 2020 on Where To Now? YPY is the solo alias of Osaka-based Koshiro Hino, who has honed his rhythmic instincts as leader of the acclaimed Japanese band goat and the sound installation/theatre project GEIST and Virginal Variations. His preoccupation with propulsion is on full display here, across five tracks of varying density and intensity, all thoroughly beat-oriented, with skeins of synthesized and sampled sound stretching to the horizon, rising from a bedrock of minimal drum machine pulses, all lovingly embraced in a cassette-borne sonic fug. The cover image and title hearken back to Hino’s past, with the image obscurely referencing his yesteryear green mohawk, and the title derived from Talking Heads, but this effervescent album, though recorded using cassette technology, is not a sad tale of nostalgia, rather a look at a present/pleasant reality. Ibiza Records label was established back in 1989 and was one of the main contributors to the UK underground music scene. The Swimmers are full-bore record enthusiasts you see, but whereas you might associate this with squirrelly, exclusive and crabby sorts, they are inclusive, human and warm. It’s a wide-eyed ebullient romp and the joy of discovery is one to share. And to see them DJ IS a joy - they’re having at least
as much fun as anyone else in the room, locked together tight, riding the same wave.

So even when shit gets somewhat darker, the tempos higher and sounds gnarlier (Analogous Doom) the world is never grey. When we’re stone cold balearic in the Adriatic (Plunky) the vibe is up, young and fun. Banging them B’more house beats? Well, you’re probably going to be recognising a welcoming RnB sample (KW Griff).

The Hague Based Producer Cultuurschok Releases His First Ep On False Flag Records. 'op Sterven Na Dood' Holds Four Tracks Of Unpolished Melodic Techno And Energetic Electro.

Since Danielle Mana's 2017 debut EP for Hyperdub, 'Creature', which was a taut, evocative suite of beatless, almost neo-classical electronics, we now find his music has caught an alien virus and started hallucinating. On 'Seven Steps Behind', the borders between reality and the weird have collapsed on each other, and with each listen through its zigzagging course, you're rewarded by its strange twists and turns. 'Seven Steps Behind' is an electronic album that doesn't always sound electronic; a great deal of the record has been created to sound like prepared pianos, harpsichords, cellos and flutes. At other times, sampled acoustic instruments and specially recorded sessions have been processed through software and careful editing. It's this sophisticated layering of contrasting versions of the same sources that help give this record its uncanny balance. The album also plays with your sense of time in its mostly drum-free hall of mirrors, pulling from minimalism, chamber music, dark jazz, and synthesiser experiments. Mana's singing voice also makes it's debut here, albeit adorned by abrasive FXs. His lyrics are encrypted in noise, in fitting with the music's chimeric character, casting images for the listener to decipher. His heavily manipulated voice enters on second track 'Myopia For The Future', sounding something like a singing motorbike pitched over bouncing ostinatos, or on 'No Body's inhuman, word-less range, where it's impossible to tell where the human finishes and the machine starts. Or in the case of 'Leverage For Survival' it's animal and machine. Here, as with the album's eponymous final track, a sensory assault subsides to reveal a heart-wrenching melancholy that anchors the record. Listening to 'Seven Steps Behind' is like stepping into a dream, with all the curious emotions and buried meaning that involves. Yet for all its restless, shifting energy it manages to hold both dissonance and melody in sweet proportion.

FireScope welcomes the amazingly talented Russ Gabriel aka Mr Ferox with his debut Firescope EP - The Controller.

The opener and title track 'Controller' twists and turns its bass line to speak to us in tongues. With no kick drum, this one is interlaced with strings and percussion and the melody of a future classic. 'Drimmits' takes over the reins and is a surprising contrast with its pounding kick drum and accompanying bass groove, lush strings and an upbeat happy vibe.

Turning to the B Side 'The Way To Go' leads the way. When label boss Steven Rutter heard Russ jamming with this on a FaceBook Live stream he just had to sign it. Reminiscent of some early Detroit techno, this one uses glorious pads to evolve into and epic track. Leading out we have 'Nova Deep' with a nice retro feel and prominent bass line once again. This joyful uplifting track could have you dancing around or just chilling out with your headphones on.

Vin Sol is a third-generation San Franciscan of Salvadorean descent who has released on Unknown to the Unknown, Clone, Delft, Honey Soundsystem, and Ultramajic. His DJ sets expertly span the genres of house, electro, techno, italo, disco, soul, funk, and whatever other finds he digs up. He's also a musical partner of Matrixxman, AKA Charlie Duff, with whom he started the Soo Wavey label. His current focus is on the wild monthly party and label Club Lonely, which he runs with Primo Pitino and Jeremy Castillo. 'Planet Trash' consists of 10 tracks spread across 2 slabs of vinyl and a bonus flexi disc. Vin started working on the album in the winter of 2017 while taking a break from making club tracks. Simultaneously he also wanted to disconnect from the grip of the internet and 24 hour news cycle. Spending more time outside, he became entranced by the Bay Area fog. Sutro Tower wholly enveloped in mist is a view that inspired the ambient tracks on the album. You will also hear hints of the Latin freestyle and classic acid that informed Vin's youth. By spring of 2018 Vin headed to Berlin to finish the album and work on a collaboration with Matrixxman, an homage to SF musical institution Bottom of the Hill that kicks off side C. Vin's musical approach is honest, using the tools of the trade to both innovate upon and pay respect to classic forms. All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each copy is housed in a jacket using photos by Vin Sol, and designed by Kevin McCaughey of Boot Boyz Biz. YokoO has been involved with 22 Digit since its inception and the label are proud to be welcoming him back for his third release. (incl. DL card) Mathew Jonson and Agents Of Time take their on-stage collaboration into the studio for a new EP on Obscura, 'Repeating Pattern, Numbers and Letters'.

It's easy to fall for a nostalgic approach to dance music, to cuddle oneself in the warm analogue sounds of late 1980's dance productions - especially with the heavy ongoing reissue trend going on. However, we have to stay focus: look out for contemporary sounds and means of production. Parisian producer Nathan Melja makes his debut on Antinote with an idiosyncratic three-tracker and our guess is that it sounds contemporary.

On the A-side: one tune: Deadrums. Both the name and the music speak for themselves. It's hard, it's efficient and at the same time, there's quite a lot going on, tiny bumps on the straightforward road to techno ecstasy. Nevertheless, Deadrums is a precise piece of machinery, an atmospheric banger, yes, but with deadly jaws made out of tempered steel to tear a dancefloor apart, piece-by-piece. On the B-side, Angels stands out as a perfect example of a song that has many dancefloor qualities but, like some of DJ Sprinkles' seminal recordings, turns out to be more of a late-night tale of urban wanderings on wet pavements (think Taxi Driver and its soundtrack by Bernard Hermann). Contemplative, melancholic and - let's say it - sad, its nagging melody can bring a little tear to the eyes of the most sensitive ones. Rounding up the 12' is Candy, a tune under the influence of bad boys like DJ Overdose, or Ghettotech legend DJ Assault - so that you can dry your tears.

It's Nathan Melja's first release on Antinote, but he's definitely not a newcomer. He's been around since Antinote exists, and we're glad to finally collaborate with him.

Marcos Baiano's B.SOUL imprint was launched in 2013 and across its back catalogue has
welcomed an array of classic and contemporary talents onto its roster from House legend Jovonn
through to Music For Freaks co-founder Justin Harris and Parisian producer Terence :Terry. Here
we see the label push on with its second vinyl release set to be released via its Ltd offshoot and
offered up as a various artist four track package.
Bosconi Soundsystem artist Rufus takes the lead on the release with 'Realize Dis' with classic
house tropes, employing a bumpy swinging rhythm as the foundation whilst murky pad swells and
spoken word vocals ebb and flow throughout the composition. Label-head Marcos Baiano follows
with 'Nullll', stripping things back to shuffled hats and wandering rave stabs before the latter stages
introduce a warm ethereal pad.
Opening up the flip side is Retro Activity aka Ivan Iacobucci's 'Rocket' edging things into Techno
territory with weighty drums, mind bending synth flutters and an ever-unfolding, billowing
atmosphere. DRMC's 'Do Not Disturb' then closes the package on a minimal tip with modulating
percussion, minute organic drum shots and airy pad lines laid out over its seven and a half
minutes.

IVVVO mounts an ambitious debut album for Rabit's Halcyon Veil with 'doG', a 2LP of
synth-driven panoramas painted in neon, riddled with rave tropes and rendered in
hyperrealist, cinematic sound design
The follow-up to 'Good, Bad, Baby, Horny' 2017 sees him unpackage and build upon
that EP in all directions at once in a viscerally corporeal and sorely emotional salvo
intended to be taken as his definitive opus to date. Across its 15 songs the London-based,
Portuguese producer spells out a narrative as vividly hypermodern as a Nicolas Winding
Refn flick but set in the fashionista underbelly of London, with crucial assistance on two
of the album's highlights coming from soundtrack composer and 'Hollywood Medieval'
producer Maxwell Sterling.
Like a magpie with fancy taste, IVVVO picks the shiniest and most affective elements of
contemporary dance/rock/pop and electronica - from deconstructed trance synths to
blockbuster sound design and choral arrangements - and then weaves them into searing,
reactive expressions of modernity. The results are skizzy, veering from anxious to
ecstatic and often in the space of one song.
Kicking off with convulsive samples of Korn's Jonathan Davis wedged into the nerve-
jangling opener 'This is Dog', the LP bleeds with emotion at each step, from the heart-
bursting Lorenzo Senni-esque style of 'Life' to the clenched and knotted grunge reflux of
'Forever Your Mouth' to the visceral, Arca-like incision of 'Blade', while two pieces with
Maxwell Sterling, the Coil-like arabesque 'Untitled' and the vertiginous flight of 'Last Days',
seal the deal with decadent flourishes.

Travelling from star to star, from galaxy to galaxy, visiting any planet, moon, or asteroid with the ability to explore the alien landscapes. Legowelts Star Simulator alters the perception of space time and give you the ability to observe a nearby exoplanet or a faraway celestial phenomenon.

His sound is a trademark. No other techno artist manages to combine influences from various genres such as hip hop, dubstep, or ragga in such an inspiring way as the Edinburgh-based 'hardware master' Mr. Neil Landstrumm. And here he comes with 2 new stunning tracks on Snork #85.
Again, 'Take It Up' and 'The Place' are a striking interaction of a multitude of different acoustic elements, full of intoxicating new sound patterns assembled by Neil's very distinctive signature style - dynamic, rough and thrilling. It's clearly nothing less than four forceful techno anthems infused by influences from dubstep and grime, which make you rock steady all night long.

* Samuel 'S S S S' Savenberg is one of the earliest members of the Haunter crew, presenting his project through 2014's Administration Of Fear, bombing the horizon with a barrage of darkened, industrialized techno. Since 2015's Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes though, Haunter has become the home for his most experimental releases. Absence ventures even further into those same lands: traversed by telluric bass phenomena, over-scaled waves of sound and kinetically charged breakbeats (ripe with processed 808 drums) or crumble into digitzed bits. Fellow Swiss producer Gil provides with a remix, combining a slowed-down dembow beat with the doomy electronics of the original.

Classic, idiosyncratic Workshop style House: uplifting groovers blended w/ chilled drifters.

Daniel Avery broadens the exquisite sonic universe established on last year's critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Song For Alpha, presenting the collected B-sides & Remixes. Showcasing cuts from the album's writing and recording process, as well, Avery also invites a number of his contemporaries and some of the most vital underground producers in the world to rework his original material, with transformative results.

The frosty melancholy of Citizen // Nowhere is reworked by London producer Manni Dee into something altogether monstrous. Introducing itself with a kick drum powerful enough to level a warehouse, and only getting more urgent from there forward, Dee's remix blends a knowing rave glint in the eye with a nonetheless uncompromising stance.

The Copenhagen-via-Moscow producer Anastasia Kristensen immediately justifies her status as a rapidly rising talent on the scene, locking into a delicate yet no less powerful groove for her sparkling remix of Glitter. Seamlessly heightening the almost meditative qualities of Avery's original, she weaves a blissful rhythmic trip, taking in razor-sharp percussions and spectral dub techno.

A longstanding fixture on the Midwest US rave scene, Patrick Russell applies his typical grit to 'Song For Alpha's firmly dancefloor focused centrepiece, Diminuendo. In subtly shifting the focus to the track's passages of overwhelming feedback, he sculpts a black hole of snarling electro and piston-like breaks, sure to prove an inviting wormhole to those willing to surrender further, deeper and darker.

Mr. Oizo plugs in his Korg MS 20 once again to deliver new treats. From 'Viandes Légumes Véhicules' which sounds like Dopplereffekt scored a movie from Jacques Tati, to 'Dolce Vita' on which Italian crooner Phra cries his pain out after being dumped, the French U.F.O. builds a bridge between Flying Lotus and DJ Snake.

With 4 tracks, 4 rooms, 4 atmospheres and an introduction from Beastie Boys' Mike D on the track 'Nuque', 'Rythme Plat' (literally 'Flat Beat' in French) is the proper celebration fans have been excepting for the 20th anniversary of Mr. Oizo's world-famous track 'Flat Beat', demonstrating once again the timelessness of his unique music touch.

Pigmalião is moving forward in his musical direction and sound, this release really shows where he is and is going. The tracks Aurora and Baskéda are ever moving sounds of energy sure to a dark basement but keeping the originality Pigmalião always has making his tracks stand out in the constant traffic of electronic music being released. Zingili is another great example of his always great sample selection taking you on a Fifth Element style mechanical beats journey to a distant planet's civilisation and the final track Bahiafro takes the album down in energy to a slower tempo but hauntingly beautiful, like that long slow journey back to Earth with the memories of the amazing adventure you have just been on.

R&S welcome Parisian Sacha Khalife AKA Shcaa with his new double headed single 'An Ungrateful Death / Pacific Gold', following up on his stellar EP on NYC's Blank Slate back in 2015, two killer releases through Archipel and a more recent LP on Sharingtones.

Abstract, deep and dripping with atmosphere, 'An Ungrateful Death' takes the listener on an epic trippy journey - sensuous rhythms and choppy guitars giddly colide while mumbled vocals offer a dreamy counterpoint before the whole piece transitions into an uneasily blissed out ambient coda. On the flip 'Pacific Gold' continues the abstraction, freeform guitar licks skitter and bounce around a loose limbed micro-house groove.

A producer, composer and guitarist based in Paris, Khalife's restless musicality manages to uniquely meld electronics with blues, house and jazz without seeming forced. "My music found its first legitimacy within the structure of house music, the grooves as rails to let free peculiar shades," he explains "I try to not allow my music to fall into mindless experimentations, hopefully the graphic rhythms justify their abstraction."

With 'An Ungrateful Death / Pacific Gold' sure to delight and confound dancefloors across the continent, it's going to be interesting to see where Shcaa takes his music next.

The legendary Moscow club Propaganda celebrates its 20th Anniversary in April 2017 and launches a brand new record label. The label will cover different styles of intelligent electronic music, focusing on techno in the first year. At the beginning there will be released music by great artists who had performances at Propaganda club in past. More artists will be involved and more excellent music will be released over time.

Lagaffe Tales introduces new BROT series with four electro-tinged cuts from Iceland's Felix Leifur entitled 'BROT01'.

Reflecting the harsh nature of Iceland's unforgiving, barren landscape, Lagaffe Tales push alternative styles of modern dance music with their new BROT catalogue. Lagaffe's main series includes releases from Icelandic talent like Intr0beatz, Ilo and label boss Jonbjorn, with Lagaffe Tales maintaining its reputation for supporting local artists by inviting Felix Leifur to the imprint. Felix has built a solid reputation for himself following releases on Frits Wentink's Bobby Donny label and Dirt Crew Recordings with 'BROT01' being the first in a trilogy of releases coming in 2019.

'Brot 1' kicks things off with resounding electro drums, thick low end and glitchy oscillations before 'Brot 2' delivers gloomy synth notes and clattering 909 claps floating around modulating obscurities. Raw percussion balanced with stabbing bass and airy pads take the focus in 'Brot 3' until 'Brot 4 rounds things off with delicate pulsations bouncing delightfully off the polished kicks and wavering melodies keeping you locked in throughout.

Fresh from her last release which featured an essential remix from Ricardo Villolobos,
Russian artist Julia Govor is back with three more great tracks on the ever excellent
Rhythm Cult.

Julia has come a long way since playing in a military band and is now a foremost house
and techno name who has released on labels like Cocoon, Hypertone and Second
State. She can also be found rocking crowds at the likes of Awakenings, Time Warp,
ADE & Sonar often alongside Richie Hawtin, with the core of her sound built around
an emotional truth, depth and devotion to seductive rhythms.

Opening the EP is the immediately absorbing 'United', a deep electronic house tune
with a warm bed of crisp, driving beats overlaid with acid twitches and dry claps. It
really locks you in and some female musings add a pensive air.

Next is the equally excellent 'Morse Code,', an airy and cerebral, super deep roller that
is quick and slick and filled with eerie atmospheres. Razor sharp hi-hats cut up the
groove, ponderous and hollow bass synths add depth and the whole thing is made for
heady backrooms at 4am.

Last of all is the seductive 'Parallelepiped', a quick and clipped deep techno cut that
will get you on your toes. Distant synth patters and perfectly programmed, frictionless
drums all add up to a steamy and seductive sound.

This is a high class EP of heady house and techno that will find favour with
connoisseurs all over.

2019 marks the return of Austrian electro duo Microthol with the project's first EP since 2011. Don't be fooled by its unassuming title: 'Transmissions' is the culmination of years of sonic research. From techno-esque opener 'Hostile Invasion' to 'Transmission 0608's soundtrack of a burning space ship spiralling out of control - 'Transmissions' is much the sonic equivalent of a wormhole linking the aural orbits of Ultradyne and Autechre.

Lebanon Hanover's bassist William Maybelline is back with his solo project. After the debut album Sable from 2015, Qual strikes back with a three-track 12' maxi-single. Each one of these new songs explore a different dimension of Maybelline's approach to Body/Wave electronics.

The title-track Cupio Dissolvi is what we may already call classic Qual: gloomy and throbbing, synth-driven and labyrinthine. A Bloody Blob explores new martial slants, with war-like timpani and a marching robot gait. Rape Me in the Parthenon is a 8 minute long dancefloor mayhem anthem scanned by some pounding techno drumbeat and EBM snare and pads. The most alert of you already checked this in some Ancient Methods DJset. By far the most extreme track Qual recorded so far.

'Buried in flowers with hands of gold / Buried together we'll never mold' shall be thy epitaph here, as well as your message engraved on virgin vinyl.

Returning victorious to M-Plant after the Floorplan album and EP takeover, Robert Hood, whose work under his own name has continued to garner equal support with the 'Paradygm Shift' series for Dekmantel, brings the heat with this triple-tracker. The original minimal techno master wastes no time with 'Clocks'. There's a sense of urgency as the track builds, looping into its crescendo with waves of staccato hi-hats. Tick tock, tick tock. Over on the flip side there's a familiarity in the opening chords of 'Low Life' that will resonate with fans of Hood's work. Instantly recognisable, it's stamped with his ability to bring funk and groove to the colder stomp of techno.Final opus, 'Go' brings a spiralling samba tempo to the dancefloor. The punchy drumbeat is interwoven with sweeping cymbals for a highly effective infectiousness, like a call to arms, or better still, the Brazilian call to carnival.

Hospital Productions's darkside noise-techno instincts lead them to Salford Electronics' murky
roil, backed here with immense remixes from Ancient Methods and Vatican Shadow
Plucked from right under our nose, Salford Electronics appears to be a handle for David Padbury,
whose credits for industrial units such as Death Pact International and The Grey Wolves stretch
back to the '80s. Under the SE mantle however, Padbury pursues a stealthy, menacing blend of
dark ambient, rolling techno and even Burial-esque 2-step that cannily resonates with styles you'll
hear any given weekend at Salford venue, The White Hotel - aka the best (and coldest) venue in the
world right now.
The Salford Electronics sound is every bit as grim as its moniker implies. Opener 'Shadowfall'
conjures imagery of light dying over Salford's jagged squarewave horizon of high-rises and
Satanic mills, before that atmosphere bleeds into the stark negative space and clenched techno
tumult of 'Deconstruction', streaked with shortwave radio chatter and unheimliuch proclamation
from the murk, only to end with a dry echo of Burial's melancholic 2-step in 'Breakdown'. We're as
surprised as you are!
Flipside, the effect is compounded by killer Ancient Methods and Vatican Shadow remixes. First
spotted in his RA.645 mix, AM's take on 'Deconstruction' is intensely dead on but pendulous, driven
with hungrier bass and whelmed with waves of biting point noise, while Vatican Shadow comes
into his own with a tract of zombied, blank-
