Techno Vinyl New Releases - News
Bleep. Easily one of the most influential sounds to grow out of the burgeoning electronics scene of the late 80s. Nowadays, easily one of the most overlooked genres. But not around Njimgen. Shipwrec are turning some deserved attention to those pioneering plinks and plonks for a 12" homage to the trailblazers of the sound, LFO. Quadratschultz provides the material, the German artist serving a warehouse brewed, acid spiked, tribute to Mark Bell and Gez Varley. Posthuman ruffle the edges that bit more with a bleary eyed 303 monster before countryman FAH gives basslines a steroid injection for a thick and meaty mix. Varley closes with a tribute to his former group. His LFO remix might be a solo endeavour but it has all the raw unrefined dancefloor energy that characterised the music of a certain pair of young lads from Leeds cerca 1990. Bleep bliss.

For the second part of Osiris' 50th release celebrations, we get another new track, 'Regret Was Never So Sure', from head honcho Simon Shreeve in his Mønic guise: a piece that nods to his past but looks firmly to the future of bass-driven music.
The track then gets some very special treatment on the B side from Regis, who blends its core textures with his own unmistakable percussion, before Mønic returns to close things out with 'Forbidden Memories': an ambient piece with high-hats that seem to dance delicately on ice, and claps layered with reverb in true Mønic style.

brokntoys opens its monochrome series with a debut EP from Gamma Intel.
Across 4 tracks, the Dutch producer presents a workout in jagged body music. Power Plant Tales sets the scene with suspenseful driving rhythms and Theorem X rolls on through sweat-dripping grooves. On the B-side, Post Factum navigates through weird contortions while Self-Denial takes no prisoners as the fierce and menacing finale.

Prolific and understated musician Shane English delivers a follow up 12 inch for L.I.E.S. after his powerful "General Dimensions" lp from 2016. Once again the Austin based artist taps into the outer edges of the electronic world falling in a grey area somewhere between Muslimgauze, creeped tribal electronics or the tense beat experiments on Seico Corp Recordings. This is downed tree split open wire music, live to the touch.. free form open ended recorded music from one of the most interesting and best kept secrets in American electronics these days. Unending tension with every turn, this is not a record to miss.

Double LP of new material from New Jersey musician, Unearth Noise. The album compiles selected compositions made over the last three years.
As a kid Roger Berkowitz was inspired by the celestial sounds of Ravi Shankar's strings, an album that was introduced to him by his father who was an engineer for RCA. In his youth he played in various punk bands and dabbled in experimental music after being exposed to the likes of John Cage, Harry Partch, Brian Eno and Mahavishnu.
Around 25 years ago while experimenting in his basement with tapes loops, his 1/4" reel to reel and a 4-track, the name Unearth Noise was born albeit shortly lived as over the next decade his focused turned to songwriting and playing the guitar and drums in various ensembles. He wrote and recorded songs that mixed rock and folk influences in an experimental manner. These were made available online under various monikers Sugar Skulls, Ancient Aliens and Shadowface.
A few years ago Roger began exploring the forms of the instrumental pieces he had created, mixing these with elements of eastern music and rock aesthetics, which had influenced and inspired so much of his sonic journey.
"I remembered my tape loops and the unearth noise episode. Recalling this, I changed my project name to Unearth Noise and set about trying to create something which I considered totally unheard in music. I delved back into the world of pure sound attempting to create a sonic experience that could challenge or subvert reality. I am a firm believer in the idea that what we take for reality on a day to day basis is a facade. Having experimented a bit with hallucinogens, I could see clearly that there is far more here than meets the eye. Listening to people like Alan Watts, it is gratifying to know that I am not alone in this belief. So, what I'm attempting to do with music, hopefully not in a forced or pretentious way, is open the mind to an alternate or deeper reality beyond this world. To this end, my compositional techniques and forms are nontraditional and often nonlinear. I use instruments of my own design and construction, and blend them with source tapes, electronics, and sometimes conventional instruments'.

The first Clouded Vision Recordings release of 2017 comes from label owner Matt Walsh teaming up with Stratowerx AKA Sam Russo. The EP is completed with a remix from one of Matt's long-term studio partners, Scott Fraser, who makes a long awaited debut on the label.
The three tracks were recorded over the course of 2016, with the two producers sending parts back and forth via email and the result sees a clear middle ground of minimalistic analogue electro and techno. Scott's Surface Pressure Remix turns the first track 'No Function' into a dark Drexciyan electro brooder, rounding off the EP very nicely indeed.

Illum Sphere's 2016 album Glass' was a focussed statement from the DJ and producer - a poised reflection on detachment and an assertion of his many talents. Now Glass has been reworked across two fresh 12' releases via Ninja Tune. For the second 12', album cut 'Red Glass' is partnered with Hieroglyphic Being's remix of the same track - following the release of his much sought after and critically acclaimed album for Technicolour Records, he provides a tranced out dispersion of the original. It shares it's slab of wax with Beau Wanzer's remake of 'Fuel The Fire' - the original becoming a stuttering, looping rhythm of brooding intensity. Limited to 500 copies and includes 'Wounded' Fotomachine Remix (digital download).

Æ is the third part of Bjarki triptych of LPs to be released this year. Æ is a particularly Icelandic form, pronounced I' in English, Bjarki thinks it just looks good. Here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago.
Bjarki is from Iceland. Born and raised. Despite the fact that Bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn't seem to belong to any particular genre. Something this triptych of LPs demonstrates very well. His music is at times cinematic and there's a story behind each track. Bjarki's music always has something to do with him personally, but he'd rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. Either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

Forgotten Idols lie smashed and scattered across the floor. Dissonant undercurrents coerce a riptide of shattered beats as Duran Duran Duran speeds into sight and docks directly into your neurological pathways.
Tracks swarm into your mind effortlessly dismantling the techno mainframe. Refracted acid takes 'Sexus' to a place where famished ghosts leer at each other across a mist-infused steam room. Repeated listenings reveal new fissures, fresh layers emerge as we scrape away at the glacial enormity of this techno scree-face. Redemption is in sight as we take a final pasting on 'Marathon Man', a track so banging as to provoke a wry smile on the face of any seasoned raver. At its climax it screeches under the weight of its intensity, flinging its subjects into a feral transcendence.

The Exaltics are back with new transmissions from their universe in form of the second part of "Das Heise Experiment". The first part from 2013 on Abstract Acid will see his follow up end of 2017 on 2xLP inclusive a Comic book about the story of the Heise Experiment. This amazing looking shape picture disc, developed with the dutch artist Godspill aka Mehdi Rouchiche, is "The Prequel" release and sees The Exaltics in assault mode. Side A brings a stomper in typical exaltics style with deep strings and a pumping bassline like an alien invasion which is on course to earth. Side B begins with a cryptic alien speech signal transmitted direct from the universe whilst the second track is a collaboration track with non other than Dopplereffekt's Rudolf Klorzeiger. Both artists together create a timeless electro voyage with sharp snares and fast running basslines and combine their both styles perfectly together. Every record comes with a download code for the release itself and 3 exclusive bonus tracks. This release is strictly limited to 500 copies. The outer contour of the picture is also the contour of the record and makes this release to something really special and to a high collectable item.

2015 saw Datassette in generous form, the original 'Offal' brought 100 tracks of alleged offcuts. While a rare few actually live up to this self-deprecation, it couldn't be a more misleading title. Now, 'Selected Offal' has been boiled down to a gravy-like substance for a vinyl release by the nice folks at Shipwrec. After discussions with the artist, and suggestions from fans, seventeen prime cuts have been selected for the vinyl edition of Offal, alongside a few brand new previously unheard nuggets and alternative versions. Expect a buffet of delights. Smooth electronica, abrasive funk, out-there acid experimentation, chip tune chicanery and everything in between from this chameleon of machine music.

Greetings fellow lovers of abstract truth.
How's living in a dystopian now working out for you
Here's hoping a new birdscare release can help take the edge off...
It's by Zu Dobson. And who's Zu Dobson
I honestly wish I could tell you.
She approached me at an A.L.F.O.S. gathering of the faithful and gave me a CD of her work with nothing on it but a PO address written on it. After corresponding by letter for a while we agreed that "Apple Knife" and "Wisdom Of Rumi" would be the first release (of hopefullly many). I only met Ms. Dobson fleetingly and she has no on-line presence so her identity is vague even to me. So next time you're on the dancefloor that young woman dancing next to you could well be ZU DOBSON.
Fondant regards... Andrew Weatherall

* New from Stonedwave (founded by Chip Tronic), who has lately been active for both the kugkmusique and the oyabun labels comes a collection of powerful dark wonky techno tracks who have been created for freaking out on the dancefloor while still creating pictures in the listeners mind . The tunes have been selected and tested by Dj Wotta Mess. The latter has been doing the Warm Up for Dont radio show which is a regular internet event before Jerome Hill´s London based events.
* Dj Wotta Mess selected his favourite tunes by Chip Tronic to test them on a dubplate (like in the UK Jungle scene in the 90's ). The results can be found are on this 12 inch which has a 95% green, 5% black color, thus being dark but shimmering in the sunlight like an evil artefact. Thus it reflects the mai topic of the record: the fight between hell and heaven, or between the artist and the machines. The tracks were recorded in several studio live sessions.
* The artist was deeply influenced by some urban fantasy novels dealing with this topic but also by classic novels like Dante´s Inferno or ancient stories.
* The record starts with 'Tanz im Bannkreis' a kind of pagan dance in a witch circle, consisting of a repetitive rhythm , jumping back and forth on a crunchy bassline which is accompanied by rocket like whistles which finally hypnotize the listener / dancer and culminate in an ancient hymn for modern dancefloors.
'Dante' has a powerful swing, hell´s bass and again: glitch, funk, tech & roll.
'Michael Wins' tells an ancient story about a fight between the archangel Michael and the duke of greece and is one of the longtest tracks on this ep, with longer breaks, again lot of shuffles, glitches and syncopated breaks and the reece basslines
'Alphalegion' might be the most straightforward tune on the ep with a friendlier undertone, telling the story of an Astartes Legion in the Warhammer40 k universe.

Ahead of their 5th anniversary CPU announce 50th release with rebuilds of 2 rare bleep techno tracks from 1990 - in a one-off purple sleeve!
Originally released on white label, 'Move' was written by Dean Marriott aka D.Ramirez and Lloyd Douglass and recorded in Sheffield in 1990. Only a small run were pressed which is reflected today by their high price on discogs.
These rare white labels by Detromental became legendary in the Sheffield techno scene as CPU label boss Chris Smith recalls: "they sounded like they should have been on Warp", comparing them to the likes of Forgemasters, LFO and Nightmares on Wax.
Last year Chris noticed the track 'Rewind' had been posted on a techno group on Facebook and Sheffield DJ Richard Hardcastle tagged Dean in the comments, knowing he was the original artist.
Chris contacted Dean to ask if the master tapes still existed, unfortunately they were lost so Chris asked for permission to rebuild the tracks. Dean was sceptical at first as techno cover versions rarely work, but Chris's keen eye for detail saw faithful reproductions using many of the synthesizers used to make the originals.
This project is a labour of love for Chris as these tracks were among his favourites from the era. Huge respect to Dean & Lloyd for writing them and graciously allowing this project to happen some 27 years after they were originally made.
As with all tracks in the 'Yorkshire Bleep & Bass' genre, watch yer bass bins - I'm tellin' ya!
Mixed & mastered at Computer Club Sheffield.

Jerome Hill (Super Rhythm Trax / Don't) dons his Techno hat once again for an outing on fresh new label 'Swords' and opens up with 'The Creeper', a brooding ear worm of a banger that skulks around unhinged as FM synthesis drills a hole in your eardrums with solid and moreish bass keeping things very heavy indeed. On the flip we have 'Drum War' which is just that; Sharp snare rolls puncture a heaving carcass of crunchy kicks and bass with tension riding high. Also included is a bonus Drumapella for DJs to utilise when extra snares are needed!! Lastly, the original mix of 'Plastic Jam' gets a deserved release after a more stripped back drum heavy mix appeared on the excellent Power Vacuum label last year. The original mix sees a happy melding of broken beat Techno with old skool 1992 Hardcore.Early DJ support from:
Tiga, Richy Ahmed, Bodyjack, TEED, Mano Le Tough, Ford Foster, Pangaea, G-23, Addison Groove, Dan Curtin, dOP, hrdvsion, Franklin de Costa/Mudkid, Ben Sims, Paco Osuna, Len Faki, Serge, Iron Blu, Dense & Pika, Perc, Dj Haus.
