As a winemaker hailing from the Palatinate, Florian Hollerith understands a thing or two about vintage. It's something that also comes through when you sample his music - rich, full bodied with just the right level of acidity. 2018 was already a good year with Ohrenzirkus featuring on both Sven Väth's Sound of the 19th Season mix CD as well as this year's Dots and Pearls vol. 5 compilation. Florian certainly announced his arrival on the scene in style, so it's only fair that he gets the chance to demonstrate his full range of skills on his very own Cocoon Recordings release. 2019 however, has a darker, more complex flavour...

Florian certainly knows a hookline when he finds one. On the EP's title track Perlas, he's working from the inside out with complex layers creating a vortex of sound. This dense sonic mesh is playful yet dangerous, with ethereal voices and jagged chants adding to the disorientation of the opening exchanges until the congas and skipping bassline give us something to hold onto. The dance floor melts under our feet as a raw, tripped out groove takes hold before the bass suddenly morphs into a brassy acid line that spreads its wings and soars. It's music for the headstrong, a celebration of the timeless tribal ceremonies that have come to define us.

Love Summer adds a contemporary twist to the melodic joys that drenched the early nineties in pure ecstasy. The soulful vocals soothe the mind as horn stabs punctuate the sensual groove, generating power and passion in equal measures. It's a straightforward approach, revolving around a familiar yet eminently seductive riff that just keeps on rolling, propelled forward by the force of its own momentum. There's no need to fuss when you hit on a winning formula like this.

More retro futurism abounds on Electro Indianer as arpeggiated bleeps usher in another vast, sprawling soundscape designed to induce a collective trance on the dance floor. Whistling, circular effects wash back and forth increasing the tension notch by notch as we're led deeper into the wormhole. Finally, the track deconstructs slightly, creating enough space for classic Casio-style bleeps and percussion to embellish a beautiful blissed out ending that trails off into the sun rise, as ancient Native American pipes pick out a haunting melody in the distance.

kirilik is back with another load of modular emissions, this time pressed into an EP bursting with ideas, sounding as fresh and playful as ever. Whether it‘s the full-on assault of relentless opener Quad, seemingly designed soley to make you go bonkers, or a more nuanced arrangement like Reversible that balances high-paced percussion with booming bass of the subbiest kind in order to create an usual yet irresistible dubbed-out groove. The flip generously gives a chance to catch some breath, floating gracefully shrouded in ethereal choirs atop the cosmic nebulae. Kirilik then goes out with a bang, the vivid colours of Distant Call zooming by in an instant. It‘s an elated headrush of the most gratifying kind, rounding out an EP showing once again Strahil Velchev‘s unique potential as a producer.

Layton Giordani crafts his most accomplished work to date with ‘NewGeneration’, his second album on Drumcode.

Since 2017’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘Where It Begins’, the New Yorker has entrenched himself as one of the label’s most vital artists and leader of techno’s new school brigade. At just 27, he’s collaborated with Adam Beyer and Green Velvet on multiple occasions, linked with the legendary Danny Tenaglia for the now-classic ‘Live Again’ and played everywhere from Awakenings, Melt! Festival and Warehouse Project. He’s also lived the Transatlantic life more than most, splitting his time between the Big Apple and Amsterdam, absorbing influences from across the electronic spectrum.

It’s these experiences that inform ‘New Generation’, a masterclass of techno futurism and glistening example of Giordani’s ever-developing talents as a producer. Opening with the shimmering soundscapes of ‘Shinjuku’, a beatless two-and-a-half-minute mood setter, the album swings between timeless multi-faceted dancefloor weapons, and more lilting, ambient techno cuts rips for the golden hour.

Already a favourite of the Drumcode faithful, the album’s title track hits with a swarm of synapsesearing synths that saw it go down a treat at Awakenings Festival, Tomorrowland and Gashouder in the second half of 2019. ‘System Majority’ balances atmosphere and propulsive rhythms on a knife’s edge and featured in Beyer’s DCR 515 radio show. Giordani reunites with the legendary Green Velvet for ‘Life Lesson’, a pulsating roller, which notably features the young New Yorker’s hypnotic vocals on loop. Teaming with friend and fellow East Coaster Avision, ‘Power’ is punchy techno at its finest, driven by energetic stabs and a stirring vocal from Chicago journeyman Cevin Fisher. After playing b2b a string of times, Layton links with good friend Bart Skils for a maiden collaborative track. Driven by a strong melodic lead, ‘Midnight Magic’ typified the moment when the duo played it at Drumcode’s Awakenings event during ADE last year. ‘Feel A Vibe’ is an album highlight centered around plump bass, reverb-heavy sonics, distorted bleeps and a spoken word vocal, which begs for a peak-time rinse.

Elsewhere Giordani demonstrates his breadth with cuts such as ‘Nirvana X’, a lush breakbeat-laden cut; the laser-kissed ‘Translation Lost’, where his musicality is in full view and the progressive-tinged ‘Memory Fragment’, which reinforces the expansive Drumcode sound palette. The beautiful ‘Human Error’ closes out the work, as muffled horns, delicate keys and sparse bed of percussion unify for a momentous finale.

“Twee” is Tsepo’s debut mini-album. The beautiful 6-tracker strikes a balance between breaks, percussive house, and glitchy ambient. Tsepo has been around as a DJ for over 8 years. He played Trouw, Heidegluhen, Lowlands, Shelter, DGTL, Wildeburg, and more. On “Twee”, he combines emotive melodies with expertly produced beats. The diversity of the music is perhaps best expressed in how easily the glitchy ambient works "Dough" and "Max" go together with the resonating techno track "La Vaca Vega" and the uplifting title track "Twee". "Extebarri" (where a hard snare is the basis of a driving melody) and the downtempo "Tribeca" round off the release effortlessly. Tsepo knows what he's doing and his years of experience in the DJ booth echo on this wonderful, well-crafted debut.

Tobias. is up first with a beautiful track that balances on the border of rationality and emotion. His abstract sonic narrative discloses through tightly organized rhythms and noisy percussion. Neel follows up with a cinematic composition that submerges us into otherworldly oddities that guides us slowly through his composition. WaWuWe's formally known as Sebastian Mullaert relieves the tension. The Swedish composer made a 13-minute long stirring and relaxing B-side track, blessing us with soothing energy for the mind, body and soul.

Ferrum is a large-scale exploration of inharmonic timbres, oscillating between brutal grinding textures and intricate percussive singularities, created by digitally transforming recordings of various metallic objects.

Susanne Kirchmayr's new album takes a close personal look at the spectral richness of iron and other metals, in various shapes and sizes, recorded, processed and arranged to a carefully curated selection of musical miniatures. Some of the results are an obvious nod to her Electric Indigo DJ alias, music that could be played on the dance floor of an alien cargo ship, both highly familiar and foreign at the same time. Others offer almost steady-state like meditative qualities, vibrations from deep within, on a sub atomic level, full of light and motion on the tiniest possible scale. The limitation in material opens up a seemingly unlimited world of colours and rhythms, oscillating, resonating and highly immersive.

microcastle’s third offering of 2020 welcomes Ivory back to the label for a new EP. Based in Milan, Italian artist Daniel Tagliaferri aka Ivory brings a surreal beauty to his innovative brand of electronic composition. As a perpetual favourite of Adriatique, Ame, Dixon, Lehar, Tale Of Us, Toto Chiavetta and Trikk, Ivory made his microcastle debut in July of last year with ‘No Scale Can Resize You’. Rising to #1 in Beatport Indie Dance and Melodic House & Techno, the release received praise from both his contemporaries and fans alike. Carrying momentum forward, 2020 has yielded significant creative successes for Daniel. The release of ‘Dreamers’ via Innervisions and ‘Hold Your Breath’ via Multinotes have proven to be two of the year’s most well received tracks. Now fresh off a remix for L.K.F Project via AZZUR, Ivory makes a welcome return to microcastle with ‘Light Through Water’.

As a much-requested track from Ivory’s sets, it is the arcane wonder ‘Time Lapse’ which gets the EP underway. Rhythmically buoyant, it’s rippling low end, kaleidoscopic synths and fiery percussion set the release on a course for aural enlightenment. Although best known for his warmer, musical prowess; it is the wintry quality of ‘Quartz’ which follows, placing Ivory in the unique spot of also being able to craft starker, more rhythmic compositions. A highlight in the sets of Trikk, it’s peculiar blend of titanium kicks, icy refrains and hypnagogic synthscapes set the stage for the robust muscularity of ‘Steam Machine’. A recent favourite of Toto Chiavetta, this austere, machine-funk delight appears to be set for dance floor destruction.

Moving forward yet stripping things back are the hypno grooves of ‘Minderals’. Another creation championed by Trikk; it’s slow burning drawl, percussive splashes and pyrotechnic synth design are perfect for the more astute connoisseur. The twisted echoes which lurk in ‘Minderals’ are decayed further still on the following number ‘Eufrat’, a track where Ivory’s elastic grooves and metallic sonics are set against a backdrop of pixie-like effects.

Trending towards the grandiose is the title selection ‘Light Through Water’. Pitched somewhere comfortably between dreamy reverie and symphonic bliss, it’s a piece equally at home above a festival skyline or sitting in the emotional sweet spot of an end of the night scenario. Captivating and poignant in equal measure, it’s widescreen nature tastefully melts down into the fluid tranquility of ‘Arpstairs’. Ivory flexes his borderless versatility here, as notes ring out into timeless suspension, while a gentle flurry of arpeggiated tones sweep their way across a bed of broken rhythms.

Ivory’s multifaceted ‘Light Through Water’ is a set of bold, synthesizer symphonies; a seven-act story showcasing a special talent whose unique sonic aesthetic continues to flourish.

Verbos Electronics, Xaoc Devices, Noise Engineering, Metasonix, Folktek and Trogotronic might not be familiar names to many but modular enthusiasts will surely pounce. Moto Music, home for experimental and alternative dance music, turns its head towards the tiny island of Malta for a new project titled Parallaks; a project formed by duo Owen Jay (Gauss/Metrolux) & Ed Blank and themed around the concept of Nuclear Power Plants. While both artists have been involved in modular synthesis since the late 90's, they recently teamed up with the scope of performing a few live gigs at their locals events and the live recording from 'Klang@Liquid Club' caught the attention of Moto Music which lead to a debut EP of pure, raw & crunchy deep techno with Detroit & Chicago influences.

50 is a nice number of releases to be celebrated in style, that's why we have cooked up a very special menu for this milestone. As the spirit of the Pole Group team we have combined everyone's character on this record. All tracks have been made in common, each of the label foundational members have worked on their own sound parts that in a second process have been assigned randomly to others to work on them, in a creation loop that somehow represented the true essence of the label. You'll never now who is making what, it's just Oscar Mulero, Exium and Reeko in essence and mixed up.

The next release on Life And Death sees label founder DJ Tennis sign up a brand new act. In return, he gets three tracks of explosive club music that collide myriad techno, bass and house styles in bumping new ways. Opener ‘Techno Face’ is a high impact track but one with plenty of character. Freaky, filtered vocals, big and bouncy kick drums and taught bass stabs are always on the move. A distant siren comes into ear shot and the murky atmosphere grows ever more absorbing and menacing throughout. The arresting ‘Retrofit’ is a loose and wonky groove that references a wide range of styles without ever sounding like any one in particular. The percussion is brilliantly off grid, blasts of bass are filthy dirty and the busy lead line brings pure rave energy. Closing things out is the turbocharged, mechanical bass of ‘Motomag.’ Named after the retro BMX wheel, it’s fittingly quick, urgent and dystopian in the way it races along through a ruined urban landscape on a cloud of hits, whirring machine sounds and crashing drums. This is an artist who clearly knows how to blow up a dance floor.

The Eskapist with his second statement of personality, handing in a seasonal Ep ranging from a seriously immersive Opener to the shuffling full-force rhythms of 'Islet Observer', gently flowing tides on 'Brittle' and finally some soulful electrifying alien techno, as 'Voluptuous Brittle' takes us home. This is where the Eskapist dwells, here we find freedom.

Cocoon Recordings is back with a bang after the winter break, cranking up the pressure once again. What's more, we're seriously pleased that we've managed to land Johannes Volk for the new season. Johannes has been making us smile with his productions for more than 12 years and considering his 2006 debut appeared on Jeff Mills' 'Axis' label, it's easy to guess which direction his Cocoon release is going. There are no dreamy minimal sounds or deep house trips this time round, instead you'll find headstrong techno pumping out of the speakers. 'Tears & Walls' drives forward relentlessly with its meaty kick and metallic open hi-hats setting the pace. Energetic and demanding throughout, Johannes Volk certainly takes no prisoners! 'A Little Story About Time And Space' follows in its footsteps although the mood here is notably more Detroit, taking us back to productions on cult labels like Red Planet, Metroplex or the Axis Records sound. Volk layers the track with more prominent harmonies and hypnotic arpeggios, giving it a subtle yet highly effective trance touch. The warm analog strings in the middle section underline this emotional impact and make 'A Little Story About Time And Space' a guaranteed sunrise song for the upcoming spring and summer season; heartwarming and dance floor friendly in equal measures!

Long-time Phonica favourite Lo Shea follows on from his excellent contribution to the recent 'Ten Years Of Phonica' compilation with the four track 'Adverse Camber EP' on Phonica White. The 'Adverse Camber EP' sees Lo Shea taking his already unique take on Techno and House in new directions while remaining firmly focused on the dancefloor. The 12' starts ominously with the dark Techno monster 'Lights, Plants, Action', all deep growling bass and drums, the only brief glimpse of light cutting through halfway before dropping back into the murk. The relentlessly heavy 'The Wind' follows up and is a pounding yet melodic mini-master-piece, perfect material for the darkest of clubs. Flip over and the shuffling percussion and sub-bass of 'MuVin' kicks things off with an infectious abstract UK Garage/Techno hybrid sound. Finally, the stripped-back 'Snake Inn' is pure bleak British Techno, masterfully produced as only Lo Shea can! Lo Shea aka Liam O'Shea has had a particularly productive few years, completing his ten release 'Seaghdha' imprint in impressive style with the 'A Deich' 12' & 'Distance' CD package. That is on top of his 'Steel City' 12' on 100 Years as well as remixes for Mixed In Sheffield and Tamed Musiq. His track 'Home' was one of the highlights of Phonica's 2014 compilation 'Ten Years Of Phonica'.

This marks the debut release from the creative imprint NEVERSLEEP whose previous work includes the art direction and A&R of Moire´'s debut LP 'Shelter' - out now on Werkdiscs/Ninja Tune - plus various visual work from Disguise.

On the A side - a massive floor remix from Moire´, melding rhythms and percussion with a driving bass and lead. On the flipside, Disguise makes an appearance first with a collaborative 'PARTY GIRLS' edit alongside Moire´ and then with his own take of 'MOUTH SHUT'. This release marks the sound debut of Disguise, whose visual and video work on 'Shelter' helped shape the strong aesthetic root of the album. This can be seen again in the video mixtape on NEVERSLEEP's website - neversleep.co - presented to complement the release online.

It’s been a year since I released originals and since then I also gave my studio a big make-over. I have gone back to being more analog/hardware based in my production methods again and I guess in some ways you can hear that in this release. For “Damage Control” i chose 3 tracks I felt had different vibes to them. Psychosis carries a familiar Noir Music sound and if you know my
“Eruption” track I think you can hear similarities in the production and overall vibe. Damage Control is a more groovy track build around modular synths and a filthy bass that hits right in the gut.
Autophagy is a fast-paced monster with percussive intensity and FM synthesis filtering in and out through the entire journey.
The tracks have off-course been roadtested and believe me even the smaller details changed a lot over time to fit my personal taste 100% After a long process I am finally happy with the tracks and ready to present “Damage Control”.

Rico Puestel is a phenomenon and currently one of the best artists around when it comes to solid, discerning techno. That's techno that takes no detours, doesn't hide behind vocal samples or need unnecessary, pseudo-intelligent tinkering to get the listeners' attention.

Puestel's two current Cocoon contributions "Equity" and "Immunised" are strongly reminiscent of "Caravel", which he also released on Cocoon Recordings almost exactly a year ago. The mini breaks and prolonged dramatic pauses are all pieces in the puzzle of Puestel's arrangement and together with the hypnotic beats and constantly radiating synths and effects, they make up his own interpretation of techno sound. It buzzes, it shines and with the right PA it's exactly the type of vibe that help us forget the daily grind of dance music madness! That ubiquitous "Let The Bass Kick" sample hasn't felt so at home for a long time!

Banoffee Pies Records begin their newest venture with a nod to the past. Introducing the latest Re-issue series focusing on old and lost gems. All five tracks originally produced in 1991-1994. Paradise 3001 aka Dr Nunu kicks things off with "Low Sun Archives". A deep dive into a small section of his outstanding back catalog which flaunts many layers of adventurous and floor ready music across Trance, Techno, Ambient, Dub and DownTempo.

The release starts with "Several Huge Yellow Snaplike Somethings" - A forgotten beach trance titan with instant teleportation to another time, neatly followed by the mesmerising sunset plod of "Low Sun In Dub" riding slow at 94 bpm. Keeping steady, the B side opens with the heavy drums and spaced pads of "Inner Rhythm (Bio Sensitive Mix)". The second injection of speed comes from the tribal percussion and heavy swirling sounds of "Beautification Bang Bang Bang (Daktari Mix)". The continued rise of Alan Fitzpatrick is the biggest story in UK techno right now. Having enjoyed a rapid ascent since his emergence as the new kid on the techno block in the latter half of 2009, Fitzpatrick now enjoys a status as a highly respected and in-demand producer. By releasing his debut album for Adam Beyer's globally renowned Drumcode label, Alan became the first act to record an album on Drumcode since 2005. The well-received 'Shadows In The Dark' long-player marked the culmination of a run of productions that saw Fitzpatrick publically name-checked as a one of the most exciting producers in techno by Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Carl Cox, John Digweed and Len Faki and being awarded a BBC Radio 1 Essential New Tune for his anthemic Reflections single on Bedrock. 2011 will see Alan evolve an already impressive production CV via collaborations with Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch and Joseph Capriati as well as remixes of Mark Broom, Funk D'Void and Alex Bau.

It has been Alan's partnership with Adam Beyer's Drumcode label that has produced his most significant work to date; releasing three chart topping EP's (Static, Face Of Rejection, Insurgent Series) on the label in addition to his 'Shadows In The Dark' LP and being one of a select handful of producers invited to remix Beyer's classic Remainings III. Elsewhere, Fitzpatrick's studio services have been recruited by the likes of John Digweed & Nick Muir, Slam, Joey Beltram, John Digweed, Dustin Zahn & Joel Mull and Pascal Mollin. Indeed, such has been Fitzpatrick's dominance of the techno scene in the last eighteen months that his productions have regularly filled the top positions of Beatport's techno Top 100 chart at the same time.

This 5th release consists of three tracks made by the twin duo Manic Brothers, one edited by Petter B. They have during their relativity short career proven themselves as worthy keepers of the Swedish techno heritage with big releases on Drumcode a.o. What they bring to Bond on this release is their signature big room sound but with a much more simplified approach than previously heard. On the a-side there are two great tool tracks with lots of space for creative interpretation for a DJ. On the flip there are a long and epic track with a massive vocal breakdown. Groove based but yet with a big and strong hook.

The label Bond is the brainchild of Swedish techno DJ and producer Petter B. The concept of the label is 'music by DJs for DJs'. The label focuses on releasing tracks that enable the DJ, rather than the producer, to be creative. It is based on that special bond which is created every time a DJ combines tracks, loops and sounds live into something new and unique.

The ep starts with an emotional track from Aleqs Notal , a tribute to Mike Huckaby . It is a deep house filled with percussions, deep pads, and some subtle acid stabs. On the same Side Meftah , a newcomer from Detroit provides here a deep jazzy funky and broken jam with Fender Rhodes, MPC beats and analogue synths that is absolutely dope. On the B side Taelue , one of the Chicago fine producers is delivering a killer piece of moody Chicago house aimed to the dancefloor, a killer jam with pads and round funky bass line that will make people dance as soon as we can get back clubbing. Finally, Afrikan Sciences is rounding up the ep with an amazing deep funk bass piece of music that only him knows how to make.

With The Sound of Graz, the springfestival graz made it possible for local talents to fulfill the dream of their own vinyl record. Styrian artists could submit their club tracks in a competition. An expert jury consisting of the Elevate Festival, FAZEmag, Radio FM4, Radio Soundportal and GROOVE magazine, chaired by initiator Thomas Mussbacher, decided who would be featured on the album. Of a total of around 80 entries, twelve made it onto the album. In October the records were released in a limited edition of 1.000 copies. The proceeds go to the Styrian Children's Cancer Aid.

New DeepLabs Records release by label founder Luke Hess. Three functional and diverse Detroit Techno tracks with stripped down analog sounds reminiscent of the mid-90’s warehouse scene. Breakers combines a noisy Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and Roland RE-201 Space Echo Tape Delay groove, TR-909 drum work, and a TB- 303 acid line to take listeners on a lush adventure in sound. This track is meant for the storyteller DJ. Jonah 2:5 – “The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me.“ Know that God is always near, even when life is overwhelming and things seem impossible. God will never leave you or forsake you. Depths was written using a Roland SH-101, Dave Smith Prophet 6, Vermona Retroverb, Roland RE-201 Space Echo Tape Delay, with TR- 909 & Acid Labs Miami drum work. This track is diverse, it adds life to the dance floor, and takes the listener on a journey through the depths of unexplored Detroit territories. Jonah 2:3 – “For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and flood surrounded me.“ We can run from God, but He is always there. He is waiting to set us free and give us true life and peace. Submission is a bass heavy, melodic, & sci-fi electro cut, laced with analog arpeggios, field recordings of fireworks snapping across the sky, and Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 leads for a completely immersive aural experience. This track is intended to break up the monotony on the dance floor and force the listener to submit to the sound system. Jonah 3:10 – “When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, God relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.“ God’s intention is to have a deep relationship with us; He is waiting for us to turn to Him and allow Him to lead us.

On the back of their critically acclaimed 'Oblivion' EP, from which 'Sensation' was named one of the techno tracks of 2016 by Mixmag, Monika Kruse rejoins her brothers-from-another-mother Pig&Dan for another electrifying two-track EP.

Both tracks - 'Get Me On' and 'So Good' featured in her celebrated debut Essential Mix that aired on April 1 and have highlighted the iconic techno artist's sets over the past month, everywhere from Time Warp to her wildly popular b2b with Andrea Oliva at Boiler Room Madrid in March.

Produced during an inspired couple of days in Mallorca with Pig&Dan in January, both records are explosive techno weapons built for the peaktime and propelled by a stunning warehouse stomp. 'Get Me On' is a driving affair from the outset, powered by a compelling mainroom groove that's gradually immersed in exhilarating cyclone swirls of melody. 'So Good' is as delectable as its name, characterized by a roaring buildup that's drawn out dramatically for much of its 8-minute running time, working in tandem with several carefully deployed breakdowns. Both records are destined to leave a devastating impact at festivals over the summer.

I am happy to welcome these two new great producers Matt Sassari and Patrick Berg on board at Terminal M! Get some funky bassy acid techno groovers (Monika Kruse).

An immediate follow up to their debut LP Center Parcs, the new EP pays fictional homage to a now deceased famous TV star, who instead on working on the screen, took up a new direction in making music. Once more replete with esoteric experimentalism, analogue jams, drums machines, synths, and a healthy dose of acid basslines, the production duo advance upon their aesthetic with a new extended EP of nostalgic, melancholic electro.

With Palmbomen II a.k.a. Kai Hugo, based out and working in Los Angeles, collaborations with Dutch-based partner Betonkust happen less frequently than they should - especially when you acknowledge that they do not use, or record to computers. When they do happen though, their distinctive sonic palette of saturated distortion, and warm melodic wavey house shines through. This time recorded in a bungle somewhere in the Dutch countryside, the two producers have created a concept record about Bart, a local hero and his imagined life in a parallel universe. In this reality, instead of making it in TV, Bart is a successful music producer, the track titles detailing his journey through this new and imagined life. 'Bart Is Alone Again' kicks off the record with its wistful melodies, and harmonic leads, before 'Underground Dance Floor' kicks in with its predominate bassline, and squelching deep-rooted, undercurrents of hardcore. Along Bart's odyssey there are moments for 'Bart's Jam', an early days Warp Records / Detroit belter; 'Rejected Demo Tape' a downbeat moment of anguish; ending with 'A Series of Bad Decisions,' in which the EP plays out to somber, yet harmonious conclusion.

Black Brook Limited BBLV010 comes along with analog underground techno from Lisbon's
man of the hour Cardao. The Portuguese produces techno in his distinctive unique style. It has
a lot of bass in it and slightly funking signals guide you the way into deep hypnotic tunnels. In
parts of the track Nemesis you feel the dominance of the raw sewing hihats driving you even
further. By the way each track keeps the groove which is so often missed these days. Thumbs up!

The wide-spread admiration for Uijui’s production chops has been imminent for several years now, only stalled by the instant gratification of endless night outs, snooker and one or two shattered computer hard disks. He’s been crafting discreet and thoughtful, yet effective midnight sun house and heartfelt techno over the years concluding in a 3-track EP for Cold Blow.

Nothing But Nice Records, based between London and Berlin, is a label founded by long-standing friends, James Andrew and Charley. The label comes as an extension of their friendship, channelling their favourite sounds of years late, drawings inspiration from breaks, electro, garage, and tech house to release music with a fresh and playful edge.

The label’s first venture comes in the form of James Andrew’s ‘Thinking Backwards EP’, a four-track genre-spanning release. Rolling basslines, crisp highs, floaty synths, and acid leads define the records sound, creating four spacey dancefloor ready tracks.

First release on the freshly launched label Anomalies comes from one of its co-founders Ramon Babot aka La Màquina Corrupta. Lead track “Dilluns Blau” – which stands for Blue Monday in Catalan – is a techno track not specifically built for the dancefloor but that can also work on it. A rather moody pad appearing at mid-length of the track reminds us that our serotonin will not last forever and that Monday might come soon. Second track “Gent de Poble”, which means “Village People”, features a relentless bassline that can be as intense as some of those people who live in a small town. On the B side, “Concepte Innecessari” provides the perfect soundtrack for self-introspection in the form of a not so conventional groove. The last track on this EP is “Consells de Mare”, a beautiful electronic lullaby that your mother would sing for you if she were a synthesizer.

Griffé is back with a new uncompromising release. For this second EP, the Corsican born P.O presents his very first (almost) solo record. Eminent member of the duo Solär Sound System with Jimmy Batt (who comes to lend him a hand on the powerful A2 track "Reveille toi").

For this release, P.O offers 5 tracks oscillating between several styles, flirting with EBM, break, techno and many others. There are tracks designed for the dancefloor as well as the UFO "I Don't Feel Anything" which comes as a breath between the other tracks. The whole is linked by a dark and powerful atmosphere, common between each track and which will give the title of the EP, aptly named "Dark Phase Cylcle EP".

A regular participant and core member of the CV family since
the very beginning, it was only a matter of time before Simon
Mann would unveil his first solitary vinyl release. Previously,
his appearances on CV’s introductory VA – CVR VI, the
stunning eight-track digital release titled the ‘Shadow Ranger
E.P.’, and performances representing the label both live and
DJing, have allowed Controlled Violence to decipher Simon’s
modus operandi, his artistic milieu, and his sound. Beneath
The Canopy is, however, Simon’s most synoptic work to date,
dancing between labyrinthine environs (natural or
otherworldly), heart-felt progressions, and playful percussion.
From start to finish, the organic elements of Simon Mann’s
artworks present themselves with a sense of wonderment.
The mind begins to lose itself between the defined sounds of
electronic devices, and those derived from reality. Beneath The
Canopy doesn't seek to confuse, but rather define, and
subsequently present the concepts of unity. It summarises the
duality between analogue and digital that occurs in our world,
proving that Simon Mann is both an elite musician, and a being
who is truly sync with the world around him.

It's the idea of capturing a moment on vinyl that created the first release of "henk". After countless hours of twitching the knobs on their machines the DJ's and producers Stikdorn and MK Braun created a string of tracks that will now see the light of day on their collaborative label.

Young artist Charlotte de Witte continues to bolster a credible catalogue of tough, no-nonsense Techno with the introduction of her second solo EP for Tiga's extolled Turbo label. With a recent nod from Alan Fitzpatrick who included her Weltschmerz (Melodic Theme) in his recent Fabric mix she is an artist with a penchant for dark and moody atmospherics. Now - after her inclusion in the recent 12-track VA on Suara - the previously gold-selling Ghentian producer follows up her collaboration with Oscar & The Wolf and her first solo EP on London's Bad Life with Sehnsucht: a bold four-track record packed with burly kick drums, steely synth tones and hypnotic vocal sampling primed for discerning big-room crowds. Also included in the package is a ruthless remix from Suara boss Coyu. The title track is an apocalyptic march propelled by a purposeful kick and an unapologetic clap that keeps the pressure up throughout before 'My Feeling' lays a circling, hypnotic vocal over scuttling claps and luminous, flashing hi hats. Coyu then steps in with his take on 'My Feeling', pushing it into overdrive and marrying brash, white-noise snare drums with shuddering hats and vocal snippets. 'Enough' then sets sharp drums knocking against cold and capacious textures before a disquieting and arresting vocal suffuses the track to stunning effect. 'Den Ganzen Abend' then brings the record to a sinister close as a pellucid German vocal sample is set creeping over an ineffably weighty low-end sitting it comfortably on the floor of Berghain and capping off another coup for a consistently reliable label and an artist firmly on her ascent.

Ben Klock's Klockworks invites the legendary London-based artist The Advent to join the ever-growing roster to deliver the 22nd instalment on the label, to be due out this September. The Advent started producing in his trademark raw, energetic style in 1994 and since then has become a rebel and an icon in the scene. Cisco Ferreira puts forward three stand-out tracks for Klockworks, one brand new one and two from The Advent's rave archives.

On the A-side, 'High Horse' is a fresh track from The Advent that has been prominent in his live sets, features a saucy vocal that can also be recognised as a favourite in Ben Klock's DJ sets in the past few months, now finally making an appearance on wax for the label.

The flip-side features two previously unreleased tracks from the 90's when the approach was more raw and groovy, something that can be seen having a revival in current times. 'Un Named' is more stripped down and pulsating while 'Sound Pove' features a jacking Chicago house groove with a techno tempo, both fitting perfectly into the Klockworks catalog.

Wurzel's second chapter showcases four mesmerizing tracks from four different well-grounded artists. Hypnotic beats, tasty grooves and cosmic melodies merge onto a unique dynamic canvas. Mighty weapon to have in the bag.

Autumns And Verset Zero Persevere In The Identity Of This Project With A Reference That Mixes Different Registers Until Achieving An Indissoluble Standardization. Both The Irish Producer And The French Artist Have In Their Works Synchronic Qualities With The Current Argument That Soil Records Exposes On A Particularly Elitist Electronic.

The label Bond is the brainchild of Swedish techno DJ and producer Petter B. The concept of the label is 'music by DJs for DJs'. The label focuses on releasing tracks that enable the DJ, rather than the producer, to be creative. It is based on that special bond which is created every time a DJ combines tracks, loops and sounds live into something new and unique.
This third release is a special collab release. The first track Petter B has joined forces with two producers from his hometown Gothenburg. John H and M.E.E.O have been part of the Swedish underground scene since they learned how to spell 303 and are both addicted to hardware gear. With their skillful crafting of the melodic parts and Petters feel for drums and arrangement this track was born. It is a melodic monster with a simple yet
effective arrangement.On the flip side there are two tracks made by Stockholm based producer Kimono. A familiar name to those fond of that Stockholm sound. He has done releases on famous labels such as H-Productions, ISL and BEK Audio. These two tracks are best described as tooly and effective weapons to be used and abused by any DJ wanting to spice up the mix. The two tracks made it in to Petter Bs crate immediately as demos. From that point they went through the same refinement process as his own tracks usually experience. Tweaking the sound and doing some fine tuning after testing it in his sets, something that has become known as 'that bond treatment'.

You And The Universe

The first release from Heartless on Steve Bicknell's 6dimensions. Acid tinged techno lives throughout the EP. Hazy modular sequences, sizzling precision crushed atop of a constant kick drum creating an organic aesthetic.

Impulse Model exudes human emotion, the EP's emotional depth lies beneath its techno construct within coarse and bruised production which gives the release a confidently imperfect aura. The production process for Heartless is a 'way of absorbing things that have happened and completely escaping from them', ultimately Heartless has composed an EP that condones escapism whilst the listener stays firmly rooted in their emotional state.

Internal Crosstalk see's Heartless finding inspiration in his own anxieties and fears. Heartless manages to mature his already distinctive sound through experimentations in unconventional tunings and microtonality, creating something truly original and otherworldly. Conceived in the isolation of the Welsh countryside, Internal Crosstalk doesn't find influence in anything other than the battle between Heartless' positive and negative meditations of the human form.

The EP beings with ruminations of existentialism in 'Who We Are What We Are'. Mutated tribal bassline and short bursts of tense percussive clatterings live throughout the track in what Heartless calls 'a classic crescendo piece'. A true understanding of pace remains a focal skill for Heartless, building dizzying synths with just the right amount dynamic shifts producing a perfect balance of anxiety and relief.

'Into the Shadows' is Heartless at his darkest and most experimental. Overdriven rave chords squirm around a kick pattern that remains the same over the course of the track. Heartless presents a truly cinematic depiction of isolation through intensely thought over sound design.

'Internal Voice' is inspired by Heartless' 'doubts regarding production choices' . It focuses on the internal voices that question your decision making during creative processes. Heartless uses feedback chains and filters to mimic the tiring relentlessness of self-doubt, the questions and never-ending tweaks that come with production of art. The song effortlessly strips away all the intensity built up throughout the track during the last minute, it simulates the hope that is gained through smatterings of self-confidence.

'Urgency of Self' is the breakdown of the battle between the meditations of positive and negative thought explored through the EP. A reflection of the fear of change, 'Urgency of Self' is static in its structure and unlike its predecessors, stays the same, almost succumbing to its own negative thought. Taken as whole, Internal Crosstalk ultimately finds triumph in its ability to overcome the anxieties that influenced it. Claustrophobic, sinister and hauntingly introspective, Heartless has produced an EP for anyone who has ever found doubt in their own abilities whilst pushing the boundaries set in his previous release Impulse Model.

Hertz Collision takes over the third release on Kwartz's label Order&Devotion. The Italian duo, whom have released on labels such as Frozen Border, deliver a moderated charming trip leaded by melodies. On the B side the label honcho and Polegroup affiliated, Kwartz, assumes the remix duties. Adding some electric sounds and increasing the intensity delivered by the original. Undoubtedly this two tracker shapes even more the already reputable sound signature of the imprint, with a prospect to the future.

Jing returns to Steve Bicknell's 6dimensions with an esoteric five-track release titled 'Diffraction', the second in her mystery project trilogy. Adopting a concept based on a philosophy of the human mind, Steve Bicknell's 6dimensions is an outlet for creatives and a visionary starting point for an artist's work, which Jing unfolded in her critically acclaimed debut mini album 'Adularescence' earlier this year. The Berlin-based Taiwanese electronic live performer, DJ and storywriter now returns to the platform - also home to Metro Skim and Heartless - to compose soundscapes telling her short stories in audio form: the result is an alluringly arcane piece of musical art entitled 'Diffraction'. Whilst the inaugural release is based around moonstones, the effect of light and the optical phenomenon of 'Adularescence', 'Diffraction' tells the story from the perspective of the moon and how it views the world we live in. Jing interprets this, composing the feelings into sound. The twisted opener, 'brighter the light, darker the shade' features an otherworldly synth-sound that warps in and out of control. Next, 'ß a d' has a tense, cinematic feel; dragged out white noise and bewitching, mysterious bells become the main focus of this murky creeper, before 'videodrome' follows with warm, stringy elements mixed with chilling vocals and a sharp top line. On the flip, 'Malentonion' builds in tension with evolving bass shrills and winding experimental sounds - layered with offbeat kicks and head-shaking 909 claps. Finally, 'Constant Human Game' is a sturdy 4x4 techno track complete with ominous, undulating melodies whilst synthetic drums and laser-like bleeps generate a compelling energy. The front cover is written in a system only used in Taiwan, whilst the reverse holds hidden messages.

“Tides” is Joachim Spieth’s second longplayer which will be released on his own Affin imprint. The album is divided into 8 tracks, built by seemingly endless, sensitively interwoven surfaces and creates curves of tension between immersive, melancholic and euphoric moments. Layers of atmospheric sounds create a dense and engaging mood, flowing into a swirl of emotions.

Martin Deason “Race For The Vaccine” on Third Wave Audio or TWA. This is as some of you who are familiar with Detroit techno might be wondering. It is a collaboration of Detroit third wave artists Gary Martin and Sean Deason. A 2020 start up project for a new label. Perfectly defining the feel of the summer of 2020, “Race For The Vaccine” has the edgy anxious rhythms and epic chords describing a life or death situation. It comes with 2 versions, one with real drums for the more outside of the box DJ and one for the more straight forward DJ.

With technology becoming ever more synonymous with the mind and body it is no surprise that when asked about the future of Techno, Metro Skim simply replies 'Techno is the future'.

'Awareness' and 'From 3D into 5th' open the EP with confident minimalism. With relentless modular sequences and gradual progression of 909 beats, these compositions showcase alien sounds held together by familiar technologies. 'Lost In It' finds the EP at its most unforgiving. Crisp hi-hats and rides rapidly drive the track forward over the transcendental modular synthesis that have quickly become inseparable from Metro Skim's approach to production. The more commonplace traits of Techno are slowly peeled away on the EP's second side. 'Unconsciousness', 'Inner Resistance' and 'Into Imbalance' reveal the full force of Metro Skim's adventitious sound pallet that expands upon the soundscapes that are presented in the beginning of the EP. Modular sequences become dissonant and the recognizable 909 is taken away. Metro Skim's influence of feeling 'lost in the madness of daily life' is apparent in the ending of this EP as what has become accustomed in the realms of electronic music is stripped away.

Identifying Possibilities finds its inspiration in the symbiotic nature of human feeling and space, presenting confusion, familiarity, awareness balance and imbalance within a techno construct. Metro Skim describes music as a 'spiritual travel' and Identifying Possibilities succeeds in this statement.

For the fourth release on 6dimensions, Steve Bicknell has delved into the catalogue of the Lost Recordings series on his previous imprint; Cosmic.Steve Bicknell's Awakening The Past feature three tracks from Why And For Whom, the first of Bicknell's Lost Recordings releases. Originally released in 1996, Why And For Whom Has been named one of the best UK Techno records of all time with Bicknell being billed as a 'criminally underrated producer'.With the re-release of these tracks in 2017, it is clear to see that the tracks have stood the test of time. All four-tracks on Awakening The Past were previously untitled but have been renamed with a focus on the human condition. With the 6dimensions label being founded on the principles of the 'human mind's natural make-up' it seems a natural decision to rename the tracks to suite the label ethos. Although one quarter of Awakening The Past was released 20 years ago, Bicknell's focus on mood shows coherence between his work then and now. The era of production can be distinguished in the EP, however, this is only eminent through a difference in recording technique. More importantly, the mood of older and newer productions are indistinguishable from each other and display Bicknell's unrelenting dedication to his own focus on concept of aesthetic. Physical Life' opens the EP with a rawness that is carried through the EP. With tape hiss underpinning the track, Bicknell's signature bass grumbles hold together hi-hats which progressively filter in and out over the course of the track. Bicknell's use of filters carries through onto the second track of EP, 'Natural Vibrations' boasts an erratic and high-pitched 303 sequence that shows a bit of experimentalism before the EP steps back into Bicknell's more familiar techno odysseys. 'Fearing The Minds Fears' paints a tense atmosphere, lashings of motoric modular synth are added with little fuss as the track title confirms its significance. Finally, 'Conscious Awakening' drives the EP to a close with dizzying pace: it's here that Bicknell's ability to control the emotion of the listener is really evident.

infancy. His career spanning over 25 years, has seen Steve grow as a Dj and producer
to one of the UK's most established, accomplished and respected techno artists and
credited by many as a true pioneer.
After stepping away from producing and traveling as a Dj, in 2005, Steve resurfaced in

Steve Bicknell returns to his 6dimensions label, adopting his The Evader guise once again with a re- issue release titled 'Awakening The Past 2'. Returning as The Evader for the second instalment of 'Awakening The Past', this will be Steve's fourth appearance on 6dimensions and features four tracks from 1994's 'No Hats Required' EP, which dropped on influential UK label, Cosmic Records - the tracks were originally made by Steve to be played together as a segment in various combinations. This release follows outings from 6dimensions artists Jing, Metro Skim and Heartless - continuing the label's theme of illustrating the 'human mind's natural make-up'. 'No Hats Required - Track 1' displays a locked 4x4 groove, filled with tidy modulations bouncing gracefully off the kicks before 'Track 6' offers a fast-pitched looping beat with floating percussive jitters. 'Track 2' then features twisted stab sequences over a minimal drum loop before a rolling 808 beat joins oscillating bass flutters in 'Track 3'. On the flip, Bicknell presents two new tracks recorded in 2017. 'Power Of Balance' provides cross firing synth shrills layered and tough techno convolutions to generate a rising intensity, until 'Shifting Illusion' concludes the package with minimalist dubbed-out flavours whilst flush melodies harmonise with continuous pulsations.

Fierce banging tracks on the a-side of this Multivalence Volume 1, and two winning acidic techno tunes with a bit of an early Detroit, Belgium rave vibe on the flip side. Strong release on Kevin McHugh (Ambivalent/LA-4A) new series of various artist ep's on his Valence imprint.

Dyspal is a newcomer Duo from Toulouse, they are travelling between modern elegant and powerfull techno and a combination of electronica, electro and breakbeats. Their first EP gives a panel of their different landscapes and the power they have to burn a dance floor with the track wrong treatment. P.E.A.R.L. gives us a new interpretation of broken lullaby in a pure powerfull techno vision who should burn any floor. Ekoplekz returns with his fourth album for Planet Mu, in the shape of 10-tracker "Bioprodukt". The unique lo-fi, woozy sound of Bristol's Nick Edwards stays intact while he veers towards the nineties for inspiration: the bleep and bass sound of the north of England is one touchpoint and the acid gurgles of the 303 are another. While the murky lo-fi production levels and evocative melodies remain, they are now bolstered by a more muscular rhythmic chassis. Snappier kicks and snares mingle with dense layers of percussion and deep undulating sub-basslines adding a funkier edge, as typified by opening track "Elevation" where playful beats interlock with breezy keyboard flourishes to create something uncharacteristically upbeat. Similarly, the gentle, fluid motion of "Slipstream" and "Calypzoid" represent some of the most appealingly chilled grooves in the Ekoplekz canon to date. But the darker-edged material remains. "Expedition" has a pensive, percussion-heavy feel whilst "Acrid Acid" is a dirt-encrusted slow-mo techno meltdown. "Transcience" displays the Ekoplekz trademark dub-fx in full flight over a driving lo-end, before "Descent" leads down to the final section, where the beats fade out, replaced by rippling layers of spectral ferric ambience on the epic "Low-X Over", before finishing with the radiant looped stasis of "Denier Daze". The albums shifting, mperfect patterns and muted colours are visually mirrored in the beautifully realised sleeve by the Print Project.

Jonny L ‘The Remixes ‘96-‘97 - a compilation of remixes from Carl Craig, Grooverider and Photek. These remixes of drum & bass legend Jonny L are little known gems that were originally released in 1996 and 1997 when each of the artists were arguably at the height of their powers. It is the first ever reissue of these tracks. Remastered and sounding amazing!

Hypnotecho’O is Pho Bho’s second release made and arranged by Matteo Coffetti, label’s co-founder along with Federico Spini. The record’s distinctive feature is its original fusion between ethnic samples beaten by violent kicks and sharp snares from the rawest techno. What it generates it’s a unique rhythm-flow ideal for the dancefloor. The collaboration with Filippo Zenna is the result of the two artist’s anxieties and fears over a past that is no longer here and a tomorrow that strives to come.

Moteka is back with 'Rise Of The Machines’ announcing his debut album on Skryptöm 'As We Fought Iron Giants', scheduled for July 1st. This EP is a short collection of evolutive futuristic techno tracks, with powerful rhythms and a modern sound. The Swedish duo SHXCXCHCXSH were invited as remixers, and delivered a stellar emotional and epic journey.

Cologne based producers and DJ's Stikdorn and MK Braun team up for the second installment of their Henk label. They created 4 Tracks full of analogue hardware vibes ready for the dancefloor.
