Tresor Records is delighted to welcome Rod Modell to its catalogue, with the release of his new album Captagon.
Rod Modell needs no introduction, his various projects render him a master of techno. In repetition and barely noticeable change, Modell resculptures perceptions. His sound-design echoes cinematic ethereality, where ferric artefacts slam against percussion, rusty delays filter observation - the resulting web is a complex, radiating ambience that etches a natural ebb and flow.
Transformative sounds alight from the outset, “Triangulation” recalls flickering harmonies and grains, a tectonic swipe. Fast-paced dub techno emerges in “Reiki”, the disorienting clangs suggesting a step away from his recent ambient excursions. “Ito” crunches the pulse further with insistent noise, into soaring epiphanies of darkened transmissions.
Modell singularly uproots standard sonic hierarchies of techno production, crisp static as forceful as his beats, a provocation of rhythm and noise. Unceasing in its fast tempo, “Jade” is trademark Tresor business - the seismic sub-sonics underpin a momentous drive, with reverberated vocal inflections disfiguring warped, dancing materials. “Scrawler” is upfront and direct, a slamming groove and swaying chords di using ethereality. Enter vast chambers of smeared minimalism.
Where Modell’s recent releases had indicated a priority for ambient sounds, this new album extends Modell’s essential vision within techno. Closing track “Air-Port” shows Modell at his most crucial best - an ethereal colossus of sub-bass weight and morphing geometry.

The evolution of Andreas Tilliander's moniker TM404 has reached its third stage. The first TM404 album was a heavily self-restricted concept album, live recorded with classic Roland machines. The subsequent album had a more playful vibe, shaped by Tilliander's extensive live touring. This third TM404 album on Kontra-Musik simply tells the story of what he's been up to since. The third part of a musical diary, initiated in 2013. The TM404 venture might have started out as a dreamy acid dub project, more suited for the chill-out than the main floor. But by popular demand Tillander found himself touring big clubs around the globe and the TM404 sound adapted organically. As a result, the album features tracks like Vactro and Rymdeko: fast paced acidic techno tracks in the same vein as classic Plus 8 releases, but with more space echo. Much more. But never fear, fans of the classic warm and bubbling TM404 sound. You'll certainly get yours as well. A substantial portion of this album was recorded in a studio flat in Berlin as part of an artist residency. For obvious reasons, Tilliander could only bring a small portion of his studio gear to this German sanctuary. As a consequence, this album has a more stripped down vibe than its predecessors, which creates more space for Tilliander's glowing melodies. The last track on the album, a loving homage to Kontra-Musik's label boss, is a sublime example. And for the Instagram generation, here's the short version: The album is called Syra. That translates to Acid. You're welcome.

Max Kion opens the A-side with 'Revival', a warm, rolling track that builds momentum through subtle progression and soulful energy. On the B-side, the MYOB Rework of Groove P's 'Are They Real' injects a fresh, driving twist into the original, layering hypnotic rhythms with a crisp, modern edge. Closing the release, 'He's Mine' leans into deeper textures and late-night moods, rounding out the record with confidence and style. PAPv006 stands as a versatile addition for selectors seeking depth, movement, and understated power.

ARMOR, a new alias by Pascal Pinkert (Ambassade / Dollkraut). A few years ago he visited Turkey and Lebanon to collaborate with artists such as trip-hop legend Zeid Hamdan and Egyptian singer Maii. While many of these recordings found their way into Dollkraut releases, revisiting the material sparked the need for a new outlet. With ARMOR, Pinkert dives deeper into the space between folk traditions and electronic experimentation. Hypnotic drones merge with Middle Eastern percussion, while subtle rhythmic structures fuse with immersive soundscapes.

FatCat was recorded in a single session-live, with all four musicians together in the same place. What you hear on the record isn't a polished production, but a one-of-a-kind recording of four people playing at the same time in the same room.
This is not a nostalgic gesture. It's a stance. As music is increasingly understood as the output of a prompt, the question of what actually makes music becomes urgent again. Not flawless, efficient production, but the imperfect moment and its context. Not the result, but the process in which four people listen to each other, react to each other, misjudge, and find one another. This fallibility - the hesitation before an entrance, the slight pull in the timing, the glance between musicians that signals a turn - is not a weakness but the substance itself. It cannot be synthesized, because it isn't a data point but a lived relationship: between the instruments, between the people, between their shared history and what emerges new in this one take. The album is thus also a statement on the question of where, in the age of generative music, authorship and art can still be located: not in the result alone, but in the shared risk taken in creating it.
"The question was always: how do I bring my work as a producer and beatmaker onto the stage? How can something that usually happens alone behind closed studio doors become a live experience?" With the album FatCat, Sepalot pursues this question to its logical conclusion: what began as a live performance now becomes the recording itself - the studio becomes a stage for a day, and the stage becomes the definitive version of the album.
The love for electronic music remains, the raw pressure of hip hop is still palpable - and yet everything on FatCat sounds like a fresh start, captured in the very breath in which it was played.
On stage as in the studio, the four characters fit together like a puzzle. Sepalot's signature as producer and mastermind is unmistakable. On drums, Fabian Füss, longtime partner behind the kit and the voice that makes Sepalot's radio hit "Rainbows" so unforgettable. On bass, Robin Jermer. On trumpet, Matthias Lindermayr, multiple award-winning jazz virtuoso with his own albums on Enja Records. And then there's Sepalot himself, who turns it all into more than just the sum of its parts.
The eclectic beats, the pulsing bass, Sepalot's passion for atmospheric sound design - all of it remains, now joined by an element of jazz and captured in its most immediate, unpolished form. The album shows what four people in one room are capable of: a sound born of shared experience, and precisely for that reason, unique.

Consummate selector DJ Sundae returns to Efficient Space with Nothing Ever Was, an immaculate compendium of phantom independent melancholia spanning '60s/'70s village green folk, outsider shoegaze and new millennium domestic pop. Each recording an emotional exorcism, Sundae breathes oxygen into music that was barely there in its own time, made in quiet places and crawl spaces, shared only with a precious few via private presses, hobby labels and now-decaying CD-Rs.
Free of any prescribed epoch, continent, scene or rarity, Noughties homemade indie pop opens both sides with the 4-track wonders of The Motifs and Betelmire, unlinked contemporaries finding their place alongside Andrew Jay's Crazy Horse rust, the regional-garage adolescence of Pauline Scribner and the anaesthetised Mancunian guitar-poetry of the late Quigley.
The remaining coordinates zigzag between the UK and US. Folk wayfarers John Strang & Valentine Lewis Lloyd, Virgin Insanity, Kusudo & Worth and Penny Wager's spartan Garden of Eden acoustica find their mirror in Empress and Slumber's close-quarters indie pangs. Chicago power pop fixture Phil Angotti is caught at his most tender, while Teri Rini takes the final bow with her universe-stopping hotel lounge torch song.
A deeper, more personal exploration of Sky Girl's sentimental songwriting, Sundae found himself amassing a cache of tracks too undeniable to remain confined to his anonymous mixtapes for TTT, P.A.M. and Good Morning Tapes, or bi-monthly hour on NTS Radio. Again his emotional sorcery draws together an unlikely cast, their unwritten narrative assembled from fragmented memories of past lives left behind by future horse trainers, ketamine therapists and Fab Four cover band careerists.
With not a second squandered across 1LP, it took a village to bring this new companion into being, with David Bergot's forensic audio restoration, dreamlike imagery from Matthieu Crozier, Ivan Liechti's elegant design and a perceptive foreword by kindred spirit Jessica Pratt.

Elypsia Records presents A Future Tribe, the new album from Italian electronic music producers CEM3340 & 2030. Rooted in the formative language of electro and early techno, A Future Tribe channels the past through a lens very much focused on the future. Across the album, analogue warmth, machine-driven funk, synthetic textures and futuristic atmospheres come together in a sound that channels the pioneering spirit of early Detroit while remaining unmistakably connected to the present. For CEM3340 and 2030, machines are not simply tools, they are central to the creative process. Both producers have spent years immersed in the culture of electronic hardware. They've been carefully building and refining their own approach to production through an extensive collection of synthesisers, drum machines, sequencers and studio equipment. Based in Bari, southern Italy, their work reflects a deep fascination with the physicality of electronic music: oscillators, circuitry, voltage, rhythm and the unpredictable character of machines programmed and played with a human touch. That philosophy is deeply embedded in A Future Tribe. Rather than treating the early years of techno as a museum piece, CEM3340 & 2030 approach its foundational ideas as a living language - one that can be stripped back, re-translated and taken somewhere new. The influence of Detroit's first generation of electronic innovators is unmistakable. There are echoes of the futuristic electro and techno pioneered by artists including Juan Atkins and his contemporaries, where funk, science fiction, machines and the possibilities of tomorrow became part of a new musical vocabulary. It is an approach that has already earned the duo recognition within that lineage. Their previous Machines Awake EP, released through Atkins' Metroplex Records, was described as paying homage to the classic foundations of the genre while pushing them into new territory. Juan himself gave the release his sonic approval. But A Future Tribe is not an exercise in retro-futurism for its own sake. The album comes from two producers who understand the history, have the hardware to explore it and, crucially, are interested in what happens when those influences are given space to evolve. The result is electronic music that is full of funk, groove and a kind of nostalgia that is pure and intentional without being a pastiche. Together, they make music that is rooted in one simple truth: machines can't come to life without human creativity.

Francesco Messina is perhaps best known for his split album with fellow composer Raul Lovisoni, Prati Bagnati del Monte Analogo, originally released on the seminal Italian label Cramps in 1979. Along with contemporaries Franco Battiato, Juri Camisasca and Giusto Pio, Messina helped reshape the world of modern composition with an organic rawness and haunting beauty.
In November 2023, Messina performed Prati Bagnati live for the first time in Milan, Italy – along with pianist Michele Fedrigotti, who appeared on the original LP. The concert was a tremendous success and led the composer to further reflect upon the music he made over 40 years ago. From his home piano – a hundred-year-old Schimmel with magnificent resonance – new pieces began to emerge out of these meditative sessions.
As Messina says in the liner notes, "The idea of making a new album wasn't the driving force at all; what mattered was trying to reconnect with the 'freedom' I had experienced back then while creating that music. I started over without haste or deadlines, simply trying to find a deeper, inner connection."
W.25TH / Superior Viaduct is honored to present Le api dell'invisibile. From the hazy drone of "For Florian" and the title track to the gentle swells of "Letter for an Absent Friend," the album is a lush amalgam of new age and ambient minimalism that is vividly reminiscent of Messina's earlier work.
The title draws inspiration from a famous reflection by Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke: "We are the bees of the invisible. We ceaselessly gather the honey of the visible, to store it in the great golden hive of the Invisible." It is a phrase that has long shaped the way Messina looks at his music – transforming lived experience into sound, making audible what normally eludes the eye.

With his first longplay EUROSTAR, the Danish disco-dj-turned-rock-crooner Boogie Rookie seeks to bridge the troubled waters between UK new-wavey rock and sleazy euro-disco. It's a ten track italo-rock outburst uniting extreme hedonism, climate crisis and the European railnet.
The album is produced partly in Copenhagen with Danish disco royalty Vinnie Who and balearic-proghouse wunderkind William Winding, and partly on the hills of Napoli with the Neapolitan Italo-don Whodamanny. In the middle of the album there are steamy vocal features from the Parisian disco queen Corine and the Danish model-chanteuse Klara Kristin.
The album is already remixed by the likes of Prins Thomas, Italo Deviance and Danger Boys and has gained traction amongst DJ's all over who fear neither kitsch or raw rock'n'roll power.
When he's not busy making punky HI-NRG tunes, Boogie Rookie is one of the busiest European cosmic disco dj's. On weekend nights, you're very likely to find him with a glass of red wine behind the booth of his countless Copenhagen residencies, his residency at Paris' hyped disco La Fète or at happening disco dances elsewhere in Europe.

In the history of hip-hop, certain collisions alter the orbit of the culture entirely. When Busta Rhymes first stepped into the otherworldly, swing-heavy universe of J Dilla, it was an alignment of two unstoppable titans—the most chaotic, kinetic vocalist in rap history meeting the quiet deity of raw soul and sub-bass perfection. Their original pairing set a gold standard for what happens when top-tier lyrical warfare meets sacred production. Now, the vault opens to unveil DILLAGENCE II: a resurrection of that mythic frequency, bridging the raw grit of the streets with a legendary, earth-shattering grandeur.
Authorized directly from the Yancey estate, DILLAGENCE II pairs Busta’s razor-sharp, rapid-fire flows with Dilla’s nastiest, most sought-after unreleased beats. Built upon rare MPC canvases unearthed from Dilla’s legendary vault, the album captures both masters in a state of absolute, unchained ascension. Every track hits like a heavyweight knockout—blending off-grid snares, filthy basslines, and soaring soul chops with Busta’s apocalyptic precision. He treats every lost Detroit tape like a battleground, unleashing a larger-than-life energy that turns unreleased boom-bap into a stadium-sized manifesto.
Forget the cheap nostalgia cash-ins and posthumous butcher jobs. DILLAGENCE II hits with the weight of two master craftsmen operating at the absolute peak of their powers. By locking Detroit’s deepest low-end grooves directly into New York’s loudest, most relentless vocal engine, this record doesn't just honor Dilla's legacy—it kicks the door off its hinges and demands you listen.

Infusing his cinematic, psychedelic musical vision into cutting-edge, bass-heavy electronics, Kutiman presents a euphoric club journey through UK garage, D&B, post-dubstep, and futuristic dance music.
With syncopated drums, deep basslines, and R&B-soaked vocals from standout artists like Jenny Penkin, Misha Sutherland and Odelya Illouz, the project bridges the gap between the indie electronica of Four Tet, Caribou, and Jamie xx and classic alternative club sounds.
Club music is emotional at its heart, and this release captures its essence perfectly; the peak-time euphoria, the moments of introspection & the times spent lost in the music.

Released at a pivotal moment in Opeth’s ascent, Deliverance offers a snapshot of a band refusing to stand still.
Emerging in the wake of the breakthrough success of Blackwater Park, and produced in tandem with Steven Wilson, their sixth studio album boasts unapologetic heaviness, immersive songcraft, and intoxicating atmospheres. Whilst many contemporaries relied on tried and tested formulations to recreate and restructure, Opeth demonstrated true determination in ambition and sonic exploration.
Now, even after two decades Deliverance continues to hold reverence as a true jewel in the crown of modern progressive metal. This new reissue offers a fresh opportunity to revisit a record whose power, innovation and enduring legacy remain as impactful today as when it first arrived.

Aura Safari are taking it back to the source with new album Spaced Out Disco on Hell Yeah. The eight-track record is inspired by the iconic sound, feel and studio techniques of the original 1970s disco and was played entirely live with real instruments.
Aura Safari are Andrea Moretti, Lorenzo Lavoratori, Daniele Melloni and Nicholas Iammatteo, and they have been releasing EPs, LPs and remixes on this label since 2020. They have long been entrenched in the local scene of Perugia and are live specialists with a unique chemistry that allows them to translate funk, jazz, soul, disco and house into their own timeless and universal musical language.
Integral to the album is the live performance aspect. All the band members hooked up in the studio and played together, often laying down tunes in one take and then adding some post-production for a modern edge. Disco, dub, jazz-funk and instrumental grooves define the sounds while the creative use of classic delay, echo, spacey FX and dubbed out arrangements lead the record the same Jamaican character that inspired original dub-disco pioneers like Arthur Russell, the Compass Point Studio and labels like Prelude and West End.
'Starlove' opens with low-slung grooves and squelchy bass that twist you inside out before 'Spaced Out' shimmers with astral melodies and synths that rise like a rocket disappearing into the night sky. Funky claps and flashes of Dexter Wansel-inspired soul complete the picture, while 'Santa Barbara' eases the pace with a brain-bending dub workout full of weighty low-end and warm, sun-kissed chords. 'Cosmic Affair' lives up to its name, gliding through the galaxy on uplifting guitars and slinky drums, all wrapped in irresistible retro-futurist magic and lit by the moon.
'Disco Mirage' turns inward with simmering bass, dusty open hi-hats and hazy synth trails drifting through effervescent jazz keys that rise like champagne bubbles. 'Magik Space Dust' stretches towards the stars with soaring leads and knotted bass locked into an effortless groove.
Spaced Out Disco does exactly what it promises and plots a richly imagined journey that never stops looking towards the stars while keeping its feet firmly on the dancefloor.

7–Early Years–79 was The Fall's first comp ever. Originally released on Step-Forward in 1981, the LP compiles the group's first four singles recorded for the label between 1977 and 1979 – Bingo-Master's Break-Out, It's The New Thing, Rowche Rumble and Fiery Jack – none of which appeared on any of the band's studio albums. (Also included is "Dice Man" from 1979's Dragnet.) Taken together, these 7-inches are The Fall as they initially emerged from the primordial soup of '77 Manchester, pushing out from founder Mark E. Smith's poetry-collective origins into the early punk scene.
Right from the first track, "Repetition," Smith and crew's working-class art punk is in full effect. His obtuse lyrical brilliance and inimitable vocal delivery ride atop the band's ringing atonal guitar, looping basslines and propulsive drumming – complemented by wheezy combo organ tones. The tracks from each 7-inch are presented here in reverse chronological order. The Fall's fierce contrarianism defines the early UK punk sound and, at the same time, sounds nothing like any of their contemporaries.
The revolving cast of band members includes Martin Bramah, Una Baines and Karl Burns as well as Marc Riley, Craig Scanlon and Stephen Hanley who would remain in The Fall's classic '80s lineups. Many of their best-known songs are featured here – from "Psycho Mafia" and "Rowche Rumble" to the Mayo Thompson-produced "Fiery Jack."
Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that 77–Early Years–79 has been reissued on vinyl. Includes liner notes by Stephen Malkmus.

Two Cold, a name synonymous with the number two and of course, ice cold beats. Even though the London based brothers haven’t actually released any music yet, their coming has been foretold by a growing chill that has permeated the dance music stratosphere.
Legs beginning to quiver and shake? That’s Two Cold.
Hips involuntarily gyrating in an attempt to stay warm? Two Cold.
Jaw chattering like maracas? It’s those frosty boys, you’d better believe it.
If you like your dance music to take you on a psychedelic journey through time and space, the DESERT LEATHER EP is for you.Winding passages that explore breaks, bleeps, bass and beyond. Genre defying influences snatched from every dimension of the dance diaspora.
Inescapable body-rocking beats that echo through your very bones so hard that even your ancestors have a boogie.
The DESERT LEATHER EP will expand your mind to the very edge of the horizon, where earth and sky meet and where all laws of nature are meaningless.
Two lads
Wicked beats
Original styles
Clever boys
Original styles… wait I said that already
Lots of bass
Delightful melodies
Two - as in there are two of them
Cold - as in their beats are ice cold

Kisah Pasar Baru: The Modern Sound of 1950s Indonesia
When Indonesia gained its independence from the Dutch colonial government in 1945, politicians and soldiers weren’t the only ones playing a major role in building the sense of national identity.
Also working on the nationalist front were merchants and traders of phonograph records, who prior to the country’s independence served as local agents for foreign labels like Odeon and Beka. In Batavia, one of these traders were Tio Tek Hong, distributor of the international label Odeon and the other figure was Soejoso Soekarso, who also served in the Indonesian Military as an Air Force Marshall.
Irama Records, the music label he founded in 1951, was first attempt to “nationalize” the means of production of “indigenous music” from both foreign labels and intermediaries like Tio.
Soejoso stood at the intersection of music, business, and nationalism. He was the vanguard in the process of popularizing of a new breed of “national” music, especially the type he showcased in the compilation Kisah Pasar Baru: The Modern Sound of 1950s Indonesia, released in 1958.
Yet, the idea of an indigenous music championed by Soejoso was in fact the amalgamation of a myriad of cosmopolitan strands. As an air force officer, Soejoso spent some of his time playing in the Hawaiian band Lieve Souvenier in Semarang before relocating to Jakarta and started jamming with the band Elshinta Hawaiian Senior.
In addition to Hawaiian music, Soejoso was a versatile musician who also had the chops for jazz, a musical genre wildly popular in the 1940s and early 1950s Indonesia. And it was jazz that he first recorded for his Irama Records label.
One night in 1951, he squeezed pianist Nick Mamahit, bassist Max van Dalm, drummer Dirk van der Capellen, and guitarist Dick Abel into a 2×3-meter studio on Jl. H. Agus Salim, Central Jakarta, to record the first local jazz album of the post-independence era.
Kisah Pasar Baru is a compilation of hybrid music that Soejoso and his coterie of musicians championed in the early 1950s, a mix of Hawaiian, Keroncong and Jazz and it became a hit soon after being release.
One of the best compositions on this album, “Pajung Fantasi,” composed by the legendary composer Ismail Marzuki, is essentially built from Bing Slamet’s baritone—Indonesia’s equivalent of Bing Crosby--and the distinctive Hawaiian-styled steel guitar. The most famous song on the album, “Sabda Alam,” also written by Ismail Marzuki, follows the same pattern, its steel-guitar works now backing Theresa Zen’s hauntingly ethereal vocals.
Kisah Pasar Baru was never designed to be a long-playing record, and its presence on the market was to capitalize on a new trend in the recording industry. The album is a greatest-hits compilation, with songs in this album previously circulating individually on 78-rpm discs—a format that was gradually abandoned following the invention of the 7-inch single and the 12-inch long-play vinyl.
This is the first time this monumental record is being reissued for the international market outside of Indonesia.

Hey! - TERRY COLE (Inhaber / Betreiber Colemine Records)

Contrast EP splits into two sides, and the split is the point. Ittara takes the first side with Anticorps and Silent Waves, Jonas Xenon takes the second with 2010 and Wriezener Studies. What connects them is depth: mega deep techno and house, pushed into dubbish territory, built for dancing rather than for show. The low end sits heavy and the space around it stays open, so the tracks have room to move and echo. On a floor it works slowly, pulling people into a long, dubby groove that keeps them moving. Detroit techno, deep house and dub techno all sit in the frame. Two artists, two approaches, one pull towards the deep end.

A first dispatch from Fernland. Three states of inner terrain: drift, then suspension, then trace. Nothing here announces itself. A pressure gathers before shape does; a distance opens that is not measured in space. What remains after each track is less a sound than a residue, the contour of a state that held still while you passed through it.

Terramar is the confluence of Causa Sui and SoCal guitar genius Isaiah Mitchell. Recorded during a week-long immersion in the El Paraiso studio in Odense, Denmark, the group manifests deep currents of psychedelia and kosmische, riding them into a heavy, uncharted swell of sonic exploration.
On the group's self-titled debut album, Isaiah Mitchell – best known for expansive, high-powered guitar solos in Earthless – brings previously unrecognized sides of his musical personality to the surface. And what better assemblage for this endeavor than the El Paraiso Records crew – known for their genre-defying deep dives that explore krautrock, spiritual jazz and even electronic minimalism? The result is exactly what one could have hoped for in a trans-atlantic session like this: a collaboration where each party reveals new angles in the other's musicianship. A joint venture that manages to bring something new to light by paying homage to traditions of the past: Californian psychedelia, German kosmische and Scandinavian commune rock.
The group flies high on tracks such as ”Swell” and the scorching ”Melted Mountain”, but pushes into deeper experimental territory on ”Ritual De Fantasmas”, ”Caterpillar” and ”Borrego”, weaving synthesizers and studio manipulation into the fabric of their sound. Terramar is a true psychedelic delight.

The Blue Aeroplanes have been delivering their distinctive brand of rackety sprechgesang for four decades now, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. Their new studio album, ‘Tales From The Silver Lounge’ is based on overheard conversations between the clientele of The Silver Lounge, a rather louche café/bar in an unnamed city on an unknown planet much like ours, and in an unknown time, though the decor tends to the late 50’s, early 60’s.
The identities of the members of the Silver Lounge are, of course, confidential.
This is the 14th Blue Aeroplanes studio album and the third with the current line-up, which is:
Gerard Langley: vocals
Bec Jevons: guitar, vocal and backing vocals
Mike Youé: guitar, vocal and backing vocals
Rita Lynch: guitar, vocal and backing vocals
Chris Sharp: bass and backing vocals
John Langley: drums and percussion
Ed Taylor: many different instruments and backing vocals
Wojtek Dmochowski: dance
Alexander Dmochowski guests on saxophone and clarinet, Will Diamond on violin and Steve Bush adds backing vocals.
After two best-of compilation albums were released by Chrysalis Records in 2025 (‘Magical Realism’: The Best Of The Blue Aeroplanes’ and ‘Outsider Art’: The Other Best Of The Blue Aeroplanes’), the band are now back firmly in a sort of present with a new album that features all the guitar-band flavours that anyone could need, with poems that cover name-doppelgangers, falconry terms, Don Marquis, postcards, Greek mythology, abandoned Teslas, the First World War and the surreal nature of music-hall jokes.

Liz Harris has worked with film closely since she began making and performing music live - both her own work, and that of various filmmakers - including a near decade long collaboration with Paul Clipson, and multiple live collaborations with Dicky Bahto and Takashi Makino.
On Music For Two Films About Water she presents two recent scores for short films by the artists Tanja Engelberts and Takashi Makino. Each film, as the album title suggests, is an exploration of water, though beyond that, each work and soundtrack varies - blending literal, improvisatory and impressionistic translations of the theme. Her accompaniment layers mercurial threads of mellotron, tape loops, Wurlitzer and field recordings.
Untitled (from We Exhale)
This piece was originally composed for the film We Exhale. In the film, artist Tanja Engelberts takes the perspective of the river itself, tracing how centuries of damming, channelling, and industrial pollution have reduced the Rhône from a living landscape to a hydraulic object—its breath slowly distorting as chemical processes break down what remains. Her work asks what a poisoned river sounds like when it exhales, confronting us with damage that operates beyond human timescales, already embedded in the river’s body. In her artistic practice, Engelberts investigates how landscapes that are no longer visible can be documented. Rather than excavating the past, she collects and rearranges what she finds on the surface—as a creative exposition of the present. Engelberts’ work places attention on the ‘here’ and ‘now’, allowing traces of the past to be recognized while possible futures can be imagined.
Untitled (from Constellation)
This soundtrack scores the film iteration of a project by Takashi Makino titled Constellation, a collection of works exploring how new meanings emerge through the arrangement of existing images, memories, and fragments. In the film, images, appearing and disappearing within mercurial water textures, are clearly present before the viewer, yet maintain their abstractness and imaginative nature until the very end—projected onto the screen and delivered to the viewer as material for forming new images. Fantasy and reality merge in oceanic, lucid dream. Inspired by the way ancient people connected scattered stars to create narratives, his work invites viewers to discover their own relationships between images and construct new meanings from what already exists. In his artistic practice, Makino captures video of ready-made objects including natural phenomena, humans, and cities, with various formats. In the editing process, he layers and configures them into the fields of mesmerizing, shimmering textures that distinguish his imaginative films.

Built on sprawling echoes, immersive reverbs, and subtle vocal textures, the duo weaves an ethereal sonic journey that resonates just as powerfully in the intimacy of your living room as it does on a packed dancefloor. Auto-Mirage is the result of an artistic exploration built around the idea of escape.
Many different settings could be associated with this album, without ever having to choose just one. It can feel like a carefree van trip with no particular destination, the start of a relaxed summer evening with friends or even a sleepless night filled with introspection.
Its alternative identity flows between indie and surf pop, with touches of jazz and soul influences. The arrangements are meticulously crafted, adding depth to the compositions as well as authenticity to the voice.
Auto-Mirage brings together recognized talents such as Olefonken (Hubbabubbaklubb) for the mixing part, Brian “Big Bass” Gardner for the mastering, the captivating voice of Swiss singer Sreya and the striking flights of UK harpist Rachel Kitchlew. This album blends visions and influences to create a project that can accompany anyone, in any situation, as long as it brings that sense of escape.

pdqb has been spending an increasing amount of time on the Blue Planet lately. From his perspective, this was never going to end well.
With an intelligence operating several evolutionary levels beyond anything currently available to humanity, pdqb identified the problem almost instantly. Humanity's operating system had developed a number of serious inefficiencies, and the planet was clearly heading in the wrong direction. Even artificial intelligence would not be of much help here: created by humans and trained on human knowledge, it remains, in pdqb's estimation, a rather primitive form of intelligence compared to the cognitive systems he carries within himself.
So pdqb has decided to intervene - personally, and in human form. His identity will remain undisclosed. His intervention, however, will be unmistakable: a brief intelligence boost, followed by approximately 10.000 years of world peace.
It will be fine.
Contact Imminent contains three transmissions from pdqb himself, carrying his characteristic Electro-Cognition signature sound - three pieces of evidence that the future is still worth saving.
For the B-side, pdqb selected two Earthlings whose music he already appreciated, but whose name was particularly appropriate for the occasion: Extrawelt.
Because after the intervention, this planet will no longer be what it was. It will not be the old world, nor simply a new one.
It will be an Extrawelt.
A slightly improved version of reality, with another 10.000 years to get things right.

The five members of Semakbelukar grew up in the late 1990s believing Malay music was cheap. They picked up guitars and amps and turned the volume up.
Lead singer David Hersya had played in a hardcore-punk band and worked as a sound engineer in Palembang, a busy port city on Sumatra’s east coast that once hosted the Sriwijaya maritime kingdom.
Around 2010, David and a rotating cast of bandmates grew bored with hardcore punk.
They swapped guitars and drums for mandolin and accordion. David began writing lyrics inspired by pantun (traditional Malay poetry) and set them to minimalist mandolin strums, then layered more mandolin and Malay drums as the recordings progressed. He drew vague melodies from his father’s record collection—1960s Malay music giants like O.M. Kelana Ria, Zaenal Combo, and O.M. Sinar Kemala.
David’s work as a muezzin at his mosque trained his vocal cords, which helped his studio performance. That skills helps him tremendously in the studio and as you can hear in the compilation, his range and pathos are the biggest draw.
Only about twenty people in their hometown bought CDs of their first three releases. Semakbelukar had already broken up when a Jakarta label asked them to record a proper LP in 2013.
What they recorded in two weeks in a makeshift Palembang studio in early 2013 changed their lives: a heady mix of bygone Malay styles and modern sensibility only they could make.
This collection combines eight tracks released in 2013 with earlier recordings from 2009–2011, including previously unreleased material.
Semakbelukar disbanded permanently after their last gig in Java that December.

*Limited edition (500) reissue of The Orchids second album – originally released on Sarah Records in 1991- remastered with the 7” and E.P tracks from the time. Translucent pink*
“The Orchids have a lightness of touch, an autumnal and mellow fruitfulness, a clear-eyed pop nous. Imagine some nexus that takes in Felt, Orange Juice, The Beach Boys and The Go-Betweens”
-Stuart Maconie
“The Orchids can come on like esoteric angels high on Felt and Massive Attack”
– John Mulvey, NME
The early summer bloom of 1992 felt like it had been pollinated by a lot of sunshine-loving records from the year before, optimistic headrushes that embraced hedonistic bliss or at least a sweeter ride. There was still an element of bedroom wistfulness to singles like Higher Than The Sun, Nothing Can Stop Us and even Paris Angels’ Perfume but there was no denying the appeal that techno, rave and Bleep held, especially when it was microdosed. Bands were more willing to experiment with technology and producers, if not necessarily going for all whistles-blazing club bangers.
The Orchids, hailing from the suburbs of Glasgow were unlikely to ever emerge from their hood as contenders for a deal on Soma Records (which had begun in 1991 in that city) but they evidently wanted to stretch their boundaries beyond their introverted debut. Unholy Soul is somewhat breezier than Lyceum. It’s still laced with a Scottish melancholy but there’s more breathing space within the production. They’d hinted as much on their 12” ‘Penetration’ EP from 1991 and lovelorn songs such as Waiting For The Storm and Peaches are now spiked by absent-minded cherubs with an ear for the 3.a.m comedown.
As lead singer James Hackett says today: “Unholy Soul was the first time we had spent more than a couple of days in the studio, doing so after work. It was a thrilling period of creativity and we had most of the songs written but not enough. We didn’t worry about that too much though because with Ian Carmichael there was a new opportunity for studio generation. Also this was the first time we had heard Pauline (Hynds) singing with One Dove so we asked her to sing on some of the songs. We were obviously influenced by a lot of the music of the time but you can still hear it’s The Orchids at heart”.
The next year of course One Dove (with Carmichael programming) released their debut album - produced by Andrew Weatherall - on the Boy’s Own label. It felt like there was a lot of ideas being spun back and forth between artists and producers in the early 90s. If some of the records also sound very much of that time that’s no bad thing either. There was a lot of loved-up nostalgia for the 60s then so it’s no surprise that many of the records have a youthful exuberance coupled to a technological innocence, that’s the charm.

Sometimes the most interesting stories in 80s dance music are hidden on the B-sides.
This one begins in Munich with two men: Manfred Alois Segieth, better known as Fancy („Slice Me Nice” and „Flames Of Love”), in the production credits he frequently appeared as Tess; Alfons Weindorf, musician, composer and producer, member of Zara-Thustra and part of the Munich studio environment surrounding the Weindorf family and Weryton Studios. For his electronic dance productions he used the names Elvin and Elvine. In the second half of the 1980s, Tess and Weindorf became part of an extremely productive Munich circle that also involved names such as Linda Jo Rizzo, Grant Miller, Sabrina Lorenz or Charlie Glass. Together in various combinations, they created original productions, songs and remixes that today form an unmistakable chapter of German Euro Disco. ZYX Records regularly called on this production world for new mixes and additional material and this is where our story becomes particularly interesting.
In 1986 ZYX decided to release „Tribal Stomp (Cherokee Nation)” by Psychic Interface in Germany. Psychic Interface was actually an American project by Jim Callon. But turn the German 12-inch over and things suddenly become much more German. The B-side, „Dancin’ In The Night”, was credited to Psychic Interface as well, yet the music itself came from an entirely different world. Written and produced by Elvine and Tess it was essentially a Munich production. The synths, the bassline, the melodies, the arrangement and that unmistakable mid-80s German Euro Disco character all point directly towards the creative partnership that would become associated with The Hurricanes.Around the same period another piece of the puzzle appeared. ZYX decided to bring back Den Harrow’s 1983 debut single „To Meet Me”, taking advantage of the enormous popularity Den Harrow had achieved by 1986. The new German release featured the „Hurricane Hit Mix”. And on the other side was something completely different – „Tropical Nights”. An instrumental written and produced by Elvine and Tess and this time officially credited to The Hurricanes. There was a logical reason for that. Putting an original composition on the reverse of a licensed or remixed single meant that the creators were not only remixers or producers. Their own composition was now part of the record as well, generating its own publishing and mechanical rights. It was a clever piece of 1980s record business. Two years later, in 1988, The Hurricanes would return with the much better known „Only One Night”, one of the finest examples of the Elvine & Tess Euro Disco sound.
Now Vintage Pleasure Boutique goes back to that earlier chapter. We bring together „Tropical Nights” and „Dancin’ In The Night”, two productions born from the same Munich team, and give each of them a new DJ-friendly interpretation. The originals retain everything that makes them special: crisp electronic drums, driving sequencers, huge synth melodies and that wonderfully unmistakable German take on Italo Disco. The new remixes take the same DNA onto today’s dancefloor. Longer builds, stronger transitions, more room for mixing and a subtle touch of contemporary italowave production, without losing the melodies, atmosphere or character of the originals.
Two hidden pieces of Munich Euro Disco history, taken out of the B-side shadows and finally given the dancefloor space they deserve. Two originals. Two new remixes. One fascinating piece of The Hurricanes story.
