When four young musicians from Munich founded the thrash
band Sodom in the early eighties, nobody could have guessed
that they would deliver a milestone for European progressive
metal with their debut album „Life Cycle“ in 1988. Changes
could already be heard on „Steps“ (1990) and on „A Sense
Of Change“ in 1991 they managed to get fans of prog and art
rock on board for the first time. With the much more melodic
singer Jogi Kaiser, who is still active in musicals today, and a
reduced metal component, this balancing act was achieved
in an impressive way. It was the first Sieges Even album
that was no longer released as an LP by the label at the time
(Steamhammer/SPV), but only on CD. „A Sense Of Change“
was very successful in certain circles, but the band parted
ways with guitarist Markus Steffen. The following two albums
deviated from the previous style, but the reunion took place
in 2005, producing „The Art Of Navigating By The Stars“ and
„Paramount“. The chapter was closed in 2007 with the live
album „Playgrounds“. Markus Steffen and singer Arno Menses
founded Subsignal, who are still successfully active today.
„A Sense Of Change“ is finally being re-released in 2024,
with the argument „for the first time on vinyl“ standing out in
particular. The material was first remastered, then mastered
separately for CD and LP. The booklet and LP insert contain
images from the original release as well as liner notes by
guitarist Markus Steffen. The album was produced by Charlie
Bauerfeind in 1991.

Als vier junge Musiker aus München Anfang der Achtziger
die Thrash-Band Sodom gründeten konnte niemand ahnen,
dass sie 1988 mit ihrem Debütalbum „Life Cycle“ bereits

Metal ablieferten. Schon auf „Steps“ (1990) konnte man
Veränderungen hören und auf „A Sense Of Change“ schaffte
man es 1991 erstmals, auch Fans des Prog- und Artrock
ins Boot zu holen. Mit dem wesentlich melodischeren
Sänger Jogi Kaiser, der heute noch in Musicals aktiv ist,
und einem reduzierten Metal-Anteil gelang dieser Spagat
auf beeindruckende Weise. Es war das erste Sieges Even
Album, welches vom damaligen Label (Steamhammer/SPV)
nicht mehr als LP, sondern nur noch auf CD veröffentlicht
wurde. „A Sense Of Change“ war in bestimmten Kreisen sehr
erfolgreich, dennoch trennte man sich von Gitarrist Markus
Steffen. Die folgenden zwei Alben wichen vom bisherigen
Stil ab, doch 2005 erfolgte die Reunion, die „The Art Of
Navigating By The Stars“ und „Paramount“ hervorbrachte.
Mit der Livescheibe „Playgrounds“ wurde das Kapitel 2007

Wiederveröffentlichung, wobei das Argument „erstmals auch
auf Vinyl“ besonders hervorsticht. Das Material wurde erst
remastert, dann für CD und LP separat gemastert. Das Booklet
und der LP-Einleger enthält neben Abbildungen vom OriginalRelease auch Liner Notes von Gitarrist Markus Steffen. Das
Album wurde 1991 von Charlie Bauerfeind produziert.

Few bands are as primed to capture their ecstatic live energy in masterful sonic detail like Terry Gross. The trio"s ability to plug in, play and have each experiment thoroughly documented opens up unparalleled avenues for further exploration and honing. The four mammoth slabs that make up Huge Improvement are driving, unrelenting excursions into the unknown. Whether burning white-hot or smoldering in plumes of smoke, the pieces stretch as much inwardly as they do cosmically, embracing every surprising turn. Terry Gross"s Huge Improvement morphs the trio"s search for communal connection and reprieve into a transcendent respite, a burst of focused energy to be enveloped in while facing the senselessness around us with a smile.

2024 marks 10 years since the release of Perfume Genius" critically acclaimed album Too Bright (Matador). The third studio album by Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) marked a significant departure from his earlier work with its bold, avant-garde sound and introspective lyrics. The LP featured the standout single "Queen"- Hadreas" confrontational dissection of "gay panic" which Pitchfork said "sounds like triumph amid the pathetic relevancy of its subject matter in 2014." The song was jolt in the cultural discourse and has since become a fan-favorite. Hadreas grew up in Seattle, WA and started his music career in 2008. He put himself on the map with the release of debut album Learning in 2010 via long-time label home Matador Records, earning him widespread praise from music critics and fans around the world.The momentum only intensified with his subsequent albums, 2012"s Put Your Back N 2 It, and 2014"s Too Bright, which exhibited a massive leap forward in both production and confidence.

Mit Seeing schlägt Tord Gustavsen ein neues, komplexes Kapitel in seiner Reihe gefeierter Trioaufnahmen

They turned up on the London squatting gig scene fully formed and ready to go, fusing punk, ska and reggae with a strong and simple political, socio-anarchist message. The band were instantly popular in London and sat very much next to Radical Dance Faction, Back to the Planet and Culture Shock. Their one and only release was the album "Don't call me Vanilla" which was originally released in 1991 by Rugger Bugger Discs. The album was recorded and produced at The Refuge studio in Reading by Jim Warren. Built around a solid dub-punk backdrop with some atmospheric flute squalls and FX's weaving in and out of the mix while lyrically remaining true to their anarcho roots. Over the years the album's legacy has grown and yet has never been reissued. Finally 32 years after its release the band, Sean from Rugger Bugger and Not Lost reissue this gem in an exact replica. No coloured vinyl - just black vinyl with the same Lyric Insert. This reissue has been remastered from the original tapes.

“The Firebird” is a ballet and orchestral concert work by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. It was written for the 1910 Paris season of

Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes company based on the Russian fairy tales of the Firebird and the blessing and curse it possesses

for its owner. The Firebird’s mortal and supernatural elements are distinguished with a system of leitmotifs placed in the harmony dubbed

“leit-harmony”. Stravinsky intentionally used many specialist techniques in the orchestra, including ponticello, col legno, flautando, glissando,

and flutter-tonguing. Set in the evil immortal Koschei’s castle, the ballet follows Prince Ivan, who battles Koschei with the help of the magical Firebird.

Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru is a true original - her compositions and unique playing style live somewhere between Erik Satie, Debussy, liturgical music of the Coptic Ethiopian Church, and Ethiopian traditional music. It is some of the most moving piano music you will ever hear! These original compositions, performed by Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru herself on solo piano, were originally self-released in Germany in small editions as fundraisers for orphanages, support organizations for widows of war victims, and other philanthropic causes. We are humbled and proud to present this album in collaboration with the EMAHOY TSEGE MARIAM MUSIC PUBLISHER and Foundation, and to assist in continuing her life-long mission of using music as a vessel to care for those who have been abandoned by society, or harmed by strife. Mystic, member of the legendary rap collective Digital Underground, is releasing her 3rd album Dreaming In Cursive: The Girl Who Loved Sparklers on Vinyl. She is most known for her classic Cuts For Luck and Scars for Freedom which was released on vinyl last year. This new album find a return to her roots working with long time collaborator Walt Liquor to create the sonic landscape she's most known for. Mermaid Chunky. It's all in a name, sometimes. The danceable, costumed, curiosity rich duo of artists Freya Tate and Moina Moin are as imaginative as they profess. Or, to get more to the point, as we all need them to be. Freya and Moina are two visual artists and musicians from Stroud and South London, places where they importantly found communities (Stroud's SVA and the capital's Total Refreshment Centre) of like minded people just as willing to chase down an idea to its possibly illogical conclusion. And it is in the collective and the idea of participation that Mermaid Chunky really clicks. This is a party, a collective dance, made all the better with more: people, ideas, layers, kick drums, recorders, saxophones, frogs. To wit, the album's first track and first single, "Céilí," named after a traditional Scottish or Irish social gathering and dance, which builds from a simple recorder line into a swelling, warm burst of major chord dance music. Goosebumps or check your pulse. Further down the rabbit hole, "Chaperone" is almost boardwalk electro, like Fischerspooner on a ferris wheel; "Frogsporn" and "Nature Girl" are mucky, trippy dirges filled with stalactites of synth and squelch; "Tiny Gymnast" is a kaleidoscopic waltz into the night. Hold onto your seats, ladies and gentlemen. You might be wondering how we, DFA Records, all the way over in cynical Brooklyn, entered the picture. There was a day a few years ago, sun shining in full Springtime splendor, when James heard something while waiting for a coffee down the street from the office. It sounded simple yet deceptively complex: a dance track, but one where the one - that anchoring first beat in a measure - could be heard a thousand different ways. Frustrated and interested, he Shazamd the song, playing at the shop from an episode of Zakia's Questing show on NTS, and brought it back to the office, where we all listened to it about fifty times. (The song was "Friends," from Mermaid Chunky's VEST EP, released in 2020. It led to an invitation to open for LCD at Brixton Academy in 2022. Mermaid Chunky has also played live alongside The Comet Is Coming, Alabastair Deplume, Snapped Ankles, and many others.) Thus began our search for Mermaid Chunky. A quest it has been and a quest it will always be.

Beloved Spanish indie rockers Hinds are back with their utterly triumphant fourth album, VIVA HINDS. Written by the band’s co-founders, co-vocalists, co-guitarists and co-songwriters Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote, it features their first-ever fully Spanish language songs, as well as first collaborations with the likes of Beck and Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten. Recorded in rural France, the album was produced by Pete Robertson (Beabadoobee), engineered by the GRAMMY-nominated Tom Roach, and mixed by GRAMMY-winning engineer Caesar Edmunds (The Killers, Wet Leg).

Shortly after the band made their debut ten years ago, they hit what felt like an insurmountable obstacle – they had to change their name from Deers to Hinds for legal reasons. But, as their fans began to greet them at shows by cheering “¡VIVA HINDS!”, the band soon realized that what initially felt like an ending was actually just the beginning. Fast forward to 2023, and VIVA HINDS was written by Cosials and Perrote after a series of endings. They hit a creative rut after releasing their 2020 album The Prettiest Curse, and their bassist and drummer devastatingly decided to leave the band. They also split with their management team, lost touring revenue due to lockdowns, and were without a label for the first time. But when Perrote and Cosials got together to write again it became clear that their connection, one so special that they call themselves “millionaires in friendship,” would be all they needed to get them through. VIVA HINDS – the most accomplished, sonically adventurous, honest and celebratory record of Hinds’ career – is only the beginning.

Jomni and Jori is an electronic music duo that has been deeply involved in the Japanese club scene, consistently producing sounds with an emotional and spacey vibe while bringing out the gem in electronic music to create unique club experiences. The record lovers who met in Kyoto have now dispersed to Cologne, Kyoto, and Tokyo, and have started a new label influenced by old records yet dedicated to exploring fresh sounds together with Miki.


"Slips" is a captivating blend of swinging beats and retro sound, featuring lush pads, melancholic chords and the randomly pitched synths. "Naizo" includes the catchy lead synth that serves as a guiding light, encouraging acceptance and self-discovery with its unforgettable melody and infectious mid-tempo groove. "Neuk" transports listeners to a world of liberation, where shimmering pads evoke the luminous breeze beyond deep-sea caverns. Underpinned by an expansive sub-bass that conjures visions of vast landscapes, it embodies an unwavering devotion to the art of dance. As we get into the groove of the summer time; it comes with great pleasure to introduce the next release instalment that comes as a collaborative pressure of collectivity & quality musicianship to produce the EP that we had decided to title as the 'Forward On Riddim' which best describes the vast amount of works that has been going on with this link up between Ashanti Selah & Hark's riddim factory (many work in yet to be released in the pipeline!)

Featuring on the Forward On Riddim we have the vocal works of Zed Regal with a version called 'Magical Connection' which describes the deep sense of understanding and empathy between what would be seen as a search for the search of that divine soulmate.

Then leading into the next version on the riddim 'Overstand' with a message of upliftment for the good of Humanity to rise up and stand as one for the right cause in the spirit of Equal Rights & Justice for all Mankind - that is what we must overstand!

Last but not least we have the real deal artist Mad Sam with a track that he had voiced with no rehearsal fresh from the vibes of JA called 'Unbreakable' preaching words of wisdom to the youths of today to keep it firm and always show love & respect to receive it!

Hope you feel the vibe and message in the music as we bring you these heartikal sounds with an immense line up of top-class international musicians in what turned out to be the first collaborative project between Ashanti Selah and Zac Harkavy!

Riding a wave of critical praise and positive feedback for his most recent Emperor Machine album, the fabulous Island Boogie, Andrew Meecham returns with a typically wild and dancefloor-focused set of dubs, ‘versions’ and remixes.

According to Meecham, Island Boogie is his most personal set to date – a full-length excursion that not only delivers perfectly formed expressions of his dub-tinged, off-kilter synth-boogie sound, but also tracks that draw deeply on his earliest influences and long-held musical expressions.

It’s fitting, then, that this remix EP begins with his own sparse, stripped-back ‘version’ rework of ‘S-S-S-Single Bed’, a fine cover of the mid-80s Fox single featuring the vocals of Michelle Bee. Meecham’s dub-wise revision is a skeletal and driving affair, with snippets of echoing guitar, colourful synths and Bee’s distinctive vocalisations rising above a weighty dub disco bassline and rock-solid percussion.

It's followed by two revisions of album favourite ‘Wanna Pop With You’ from A Love From Outer Space main man Sean Johnston under his now familiar Hardway Brothers alias. Combining his own love of raw, analogue-sounding electronics and trippy dancefloor psychedelia with select elements of Meecham’s original – percussion, synth sounds, crisp guitar licks and elements of Severine Mouletin’s lead vocals, Johnston’s main ‘remix’ is a weighty, mid-tempo treat. Arguably even better is his accompanying dub, which is more groove-and-effects focused and makes more of Beecham’s superb original bassline. It’s heavy, spaced-out and undeniably intoxicating.

To round off the package, long-time friend of the label (and sometime contributor) Rose Robinson dons her Tigerbalm pseudonym and gets to work on ‘La Cassette’. Brilliantly cutting up Severine Mouletin’s vocals, she delivers a driving slab of spaced-out, synth-heavy dub disco that adds more weight and energy to Meecham’s original. It’s a fittingly on-point way to close out a superb selection of club-ready revisions.

Recital presents an artists’ record from the two giants Richard Hamilton and Dieter Roth. Hamilton (1922-2011) is revered as the father of British Pop Art as both theorist and practitioner, in addition to famously designing the artwork for The Beatles’ White Album. Dieter Roth (1930-1998) was a Swiss German artist who blithely ignored all artistic boundaries and aesthetic dictums. His oeuvre includes hundreds of artist books, almost half a thousand prints, sculptures, multiples and records, all balanced between magnetic playfulness and self-deprecating paranoia. Roth also ran his own record/book press Dieter Roth's Verlag and was a major force in the reckless improvisational music group Selten Gehörte Musik (1973-1979).

The two artists most significant collaborations happened between 1976 and 1978, beginning with a series of 74 paintings in which they reworked each other’s art. The paintings were made for an exhibition for dogs (as suggested by the late Marcel Broodthaers, to whom the works were dedicated) in Cadaqués, Spain. Hamilton and Roth then produced the catalogue Collaborations of Ch. Rotham with reproductions of all the paintings alongside four brilliant new collaborative texts. The narrative of the texts sprung from the “fairy story” (Hamilton) quality that emerged from these dog paintings – a hallucinatory tapestry of sausages, gestating giants, Sancho Panza, Don Quixote, and a donkey. Together they gallop, humorous and beautifully absurd, across the wild field of an imaginary seaside backdrop with endless garbled iterations of ever-mutating names riddled with mad typos.

For these recordings the individual texts were read by Roth and Hamilton, actor friend Duncan Smith, and a huge cast of British artists for the final play Die Grosse Bockwurst, performed at the Whitechapel Gallery in London in 1977. The recordings were first released on cassette on the Audio Arts label in 1978, and have now been remastered from the original ¼″ tapes for this double vinyl edition.

Also included are two booklets: one is a new essay written for this edition by artist and co-producer Malcolm Green (Red Sphinx, Atlas Press), alongside full reproductions of the Roth / Hamilton collaborative Ch.
