Hooveriii - A Round of Applause Time after time, we all talk about … well, time — often in aphorisms and cliches. X is “a waste of time,” while Y is “time well spent.” We are all apt to lose track of time but, perhaps in equal measure, we have plenty of time on our hands. We think we have all the time in the world -- until we remember that time flies, after which our time runs out and we’re dead (for a long time). Since 2020, internal clocks have had to be readjusted with the pace of life ebbing and flowing. For Los Angeles psych-rock sextet Hooveriii (pronounced "Hoover Three") that adjustment seeped its way into their songwriting and ultimately their forthcoming album, A Round of Applause. The record cherrypicks from an array of genres — pop, girl-group ditties, synth-ish keyboards and funk —but the end result is a cohesive long-player with songs that revolve around the Spanish Inquisition (“Stone Man”); or follow “the legendary Peruvians who run long distances in the Andes Mountains (“The Runner”). “I let my imagination run wild,” Hoover said. Elsewhere on A Round of Applause, the Hooveriii frontman finally recorded a song, “The Pearl,” that he wrote in 2017. “It sounds like a Harry Nilsson jingle like to me, a fantasy song,” he continued. “It's more like a nursery rhyme than a song with an important message. You know, it's just like keeping things fun. … Nilsson didn’t take everything so fucking seriously. We want to avoid that self-seriousness. We're a bunch of goofy musicians.”

Amusing and sweet snippets are interwoven throughout the songs and sometimes during them - "Out of Habit" harbors a little cinematic glimpse into Ani's first days in New York City. This dynamic collection also offers The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra playing on "Both Hands" and "Amazing Grace" at a hockey arena as well as a phenomenal version of "Shy," that was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance – Female (or whatever). Living In Clip is also considered one of Rolling Stone Magazine's essential albums of the 90's. Since the release of Superstition back in 2018, FUNERAL CHIC has been through something of a metamorphosis, a rebirth if you will. With renewed purpose and a line up that has been solidified along the way, the four piece are preparing to release their third full length album, Roman Candle, this summer. Holding no desire to make the same album twice, they have eschewed the punk-led powerviolence that informed their previous work and have embraced the great tradition of American rock and roll - but given it a very distinctive FUNERAL CHIC twist. The swagger of proto-punk forefathers The Stooges and The New York Dolls imbues the darkest, grittiest corners of their reinvigorated sound, and can also be found on their cover of Roky Erickson’s Two Headed Dog. The caustic energy of early thrash and black metal scenes is also present, flickering with unmistakable incandescence throughout. Having previously led with their outspoken politics, this time the lyrics are refracted through a more personal - but no less fervoured - lens. With members of the band taking a path of sobriety in recent years, the knot of rage that was previously doused with alcohol has been channeled into the lyrics on Roman Candle instead. Ten tales of sweat and pungent aggression dripping into a powder keg of a global identity crisis weave throughout the album’s length. Recorded at Legit Biz, in Greensboro, NC with engineer, Kris Hilbert, FUNERAL CHIC guitarist, Robert Stroud, oversaw production, before the album was mixed by Matt Russell and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Throughout the process of creating Roman Candle, FUNERAL CHIC has - without ceremony - sloughed away old skin to reveal something new beneath. The volatile and unpredictable experience of living in modern day America is distilled via the mercurial sound of aggressive punk, sleazy Americana, and raw heavy metal. Roman Candle marks the beginning of the next blistering chapter for FUNERAL CHIC.

The masters of the brazilian old school death metal KRISIUN are back. After their last album "Scourge of the Enthroned", which was released in 2018, the three Sao Paulo brothers deliver another board-hard and incredibly strong new studio album. On "Mortem Solis" Krisiun convince with precise riffs and hard-hitting sound with the active support of Mark Lewis (production and mix). “Mortem Solis” will be available as Ltd. CD Digipak, 180 gram LP and on all digital platforms.

We like what Trouble have done with this album, “Plastic Green Head”. The music sounds fairly dissimilar to the completely doom-laden, crushing riffs present on the earlier material, but what Trouble do here sounds every bit authentic. Not to mislead you, this definitely still sounds like Trouble, but they seem to have adopted a more laidback, stoner metal approach; sacrificing sinister atmospheres for more upbeat ones. The first few tracks are completely awesome offerings of vintage Trouble. The playful, thrashy riff of the title track, which opens the album, is a great introduction to the music at hand and Eric Wagner’s distinctive vocals sound powerful overtop. “Plastic Green Head,” “The Eye,” “Flowers,” these are all what you would expect from Trouble, huge churning riffs, 80 bpm drumbeats, Eric Wagners nasal yet powerful voice. They are simple, they are catchy, and they are just plain good. “The Porpoise Song” is a cover of a song by The Monkees, and strangely enough it’s very good. Big wall of guitar noise, and Eric singing in a less nasal and more melodic voice. “Opium Eater” sounds like it could easily be an Alice in Chains song. On this album there is silly plenty of Sabbath worship, but also more of an upbeat, hard rock feel. We would even say that a little grunge has crept into their sound (to be fair, it’s probably the other way around, Trouble influence crept into grunge.) If you’re looking for a nice dose of stoner metal, you’ll find just that right here. There’s plenty of memorable riffs which provide good replay value, and although you won’t find as much doom as you might expect from Trouble, it’s still there if you look for it.

In 1972, Jethro Tull released the instant classic, Thick As A Brick. 50 years on and the album is still revered as one of rock’s and progressive rock’s most definitive and pioneering albums. To celebrate the 50th anniversary, Thick As A Brick has been reproduced in its original format, the legendary 12-page newspaper. The vinyl is a half-speed master of Steven Wilson’s 2012 remix.

Thick As A Brick came about following the release of Jethro Tull’s immensely successful previous album “Aqualung”. Upon its release, Aqualung was regarded a concept album in the music press, and in response the band set about to respond to the rock critics with the ultimate concept album, culminating in Thick As A Brick.

Unlike any other records on the market, the album is set inside a broadsheet newspaper, “The St. Cleve Chronicle & Linwell Advertiser”. The newspaper includes many news articles packed full of continuing jokes, a crossword, connect-the-dots and much more. It was originally written by Ian Anderson, Jeffrey Hammond and John Evan, with the newspaper taking longer to put together compared to the music. As reported in the paper, the lyrics were credited at the time to the fictitious child character, Gerald Bostock, whose parents supposedly lied about his age. Amongst the many articles is a frank review of the album itself. Thick As A Brick was the first album to feature drummer Barrie Barlow, who featured alongside Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, John Evan and Jeffrey Hammond.

A must for any record collection, the album is a half-speed master of Steven Wilson’s 2012 remix, providing the ultimate audio experience of the progressive rock classic.

For Judah & the Lion, the last two years should’ve been the best of their lives as the Nashville band toured behind a powerful single and a genre-upending album, sharing stages with heroes and playing to oceans of fans. Phillip Smart was one of the great engineers to learn his trade as understudy to the legendary dub master himself Osbourne'King Tubby'Ruddock.
Alongside other luminaires such as Prince Jammy and Scientist,Phillip Smart would step in at the controls when demand for King Tubby studio dubs grew to such an extent that each single release was expected to carry a version/dub flipside.
Phillip Smart moved to the United States in the late 70's and in 1981 opened his successful studio HC&F,Long Island,New York.It produced some sizeable Jamaican Dancehall hits for his two record labels TanYah and Eclipse.
Tracks like Dirtsman's 'Hot This Year' and 'Rikers Island' and most notably artist Shaggy used the studio to work up his massive hits 'Oh Carolina','Big Up' and 'Angel'.
But it's in the heady days of the early 1970's and up to 1976 that we concentrate on for this release.When Version was King and Prince Phillip Smart was at the controls mixing up some fine dubs with Jamaica's finest musicians The Aggrovators.
Working some of producer Bunny'Striker'Lee's rhythms in fine style....hope ypu enjoy the set......

On a base level, the term ‘blood harmony’ is simple—it describes the specific sound two siblings make when they sing together. Given that Dave Hause has been writing and recording songs with his younger brother Tim for a while now, it made sense to use that phrase as the title for his fifth solo record. But this being a Dave Hause album also means there’s much more to it than that. Beneath the surface of Blood Harmony, in fact, are multiple layers of meaning relating to Hause’s role as a musician, a brother, a husband, a son and—having become a father to twins a few months before the release of 2019’s Kick—a dad. This 2001 album from the Brazilian death metal war machine Krisiun has never previously been available on vinyl, apart from a limited picture disc release back in the day.

Wilderness pianist Hunter Noack has been a regular guest pianist with Pink Martini, and has been featured on PBS and CBS This Morning. Now, his debut album is the definitive souvenir of Noack’s award-winning, ground-breaking wilderness concert series, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild. The album features Noack performing select favorites from the classical piano canon as well as collaborations with Native American flutist James Edmund Greeley, psychedelic electronics by Dave Friedlander, a spacious concerto with the Salem Orchestra, and an arrangement of Franz Schubert’s most beautiful song with Pink Martini’s China Forbes and Thomas Lauderdale. “Rob wanted the world of The Northman to feel harsh and uncomfortable, and for everything to feel like it was caked in mud and dry blood, so it was crucial for the score to mirror that.” Composers Robin Carolan (Tri-Angle Records) and Sebastian Gainsborough (Vessel) were given a task of epic proportions when director Rob Eggers (The VVitch, The Lighthouse) asked them to create the score for his ambitious and highly anticipated new film The Northman, releasing on April 22nd. They needed to make a score that both honored the immense research that had gone into the authenticity of this Viking era period piece and complimented the cinematic maximalism of the film for a modern audience. The artists stretched themselves to the depths of their creativity and the resulting album is a gorgeous sonic tableaux that places the listener right in the center of the film.

While arranging the score the composers consulted musician and ethnographer Poul Høxbro for inspiration and insight into the history of Viking music. Having backgrounds in left field electronic music, Robin and Sebastian felt liberated by the constraint of using a small selection of musical tools for this piece. “Electronic music has almost limitless potential when it comes to making sounds and that’s obviously an incredible thing, but you can also go down the wormhole and get lost in it sometimes. There’s no risk of that happening when you only have a few primary instruments to draw upon.” Robin remarked.

They utilized traditional instruments such as the tagelharpa, langspil, kravik lyre, and säckpip to build the cinematic world of The Northman but they also took creative freedoms in adding instruments likes drums, which some academics believe wouldn’t have played a big part in Viking musical culture, simply due to the lack of archaeological evidence of actual drums. “One of the pieces we wrote was intended to emulate the sound of a bullroarer; an ancient instrument used in sacred rituals or in battle to intimidate enemies. It makes a really disorienting roaring vibrato sound and low frequencies capable of traveling insane distances.” Robin says when asked about one of the more unique aspects of the score. Everyone involved put so much effort into both their research and their creativity and this richness is evident in every track. The album as a whole is a cinematic masterpiece of sound and ambiance, both gorgeous and disturbing, like the film it so beautifully accompanies.

Fear Factory is an American Industrial Metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1990. Throughout their career they have released nine full-length albums with a tenth studio album coming in 2021. Soul Of A New Machine is the band’s debut album for Roadrunner Records, released on August 25, 1992.

AllMusic's Jason Birchmeier gave the album three stars out of five, remarking that "Fear Factory were quite ahead of their time in 1992". The critic also noted the diversity of the genres featured in the recording, saying that "Soul of a New Machine was so ground-breaking because it fused together some of the best aspects of numerous metal subgenres", which "[resulted] in a unique sound". Rock Hard rated the album highly, saying that the sound of the album was strange, indescribable yet required listening. Rock Hard also complimented the blending of various sub-genres, with particular note to Burton Bell for managing such an eclectic set of vocals.

It’s been an exhilarating 40-year ride for Voivod, the Jonquière, Quebec quartet that has, over the years, defied the odds, faced tragedy head on and also seen the band rise above many of the contemporaries to a point where the band’s intricate progressively fuelled heavy metal sound also brings with it honours and awards. The 2018 Voivod album, ‘The Wake’, won the band a Juno Award for Heavy Metal Album of The Year, while the previous year Away had picked up the Visionary Award at that year’s Progressive Music Awards in London.

The music contained in this set proves that Voivod were very much pioneers of the sound, as their own music became more refined and experimental. You can hear the development of the band’s sound over the three albums contained here (Rrröööaarrr, Killing Technology & Dimension Hatröss). Repressed , please note price increase! Would Like To Pose A Question is one of the first previously-unreleased funk and soul albums issued by Now-Again, and it still sounds amazing today. Well, it would have to: it's the brainchild of bandleader/drummer/singer/songwriter Lester Abrams (the L.A. in L.A. Carnival). Abrams helped create hit singles like "Minute by Minute" and “What A Fool Believes” for the Doobie Brothers and played with artists such as B.B. King, Stevie Wonder, Peabo Bryson, Manfred Mann, Quincy Jones and many more. Before all that - in early 70s while still in Omaha - he brought a multi-racial band into the Pacific Avenue studio to cut an album's worth of material. Only one single - "Color" b/w "Blink Man" - was ever issued, and this album sat on master tapes in Abrams' closet. That is until Now-Again’s Eothen Alapatt intervened in the early 2000s and Would You Like To Pose A Question was at last given a proper full length release.

Cognitive Prophecy - a new project from the mind of Skatman, lands with ‘Pelennor Fields’ - a sonically diverse, deep and dreamy 3-track EP from UK-Based producer Jozef K.

A new platform focussed on true artistic expression and empowerment - Cognitive Prophecy aims to push boundaries, ignore trends, and thinking outside of the box; drawing inspiration from the past, but always looking to the future - encouraging artists to draw inspiration not only from the niche in which they sit, to create timeless electronic music going forward.

The title track ‘Pelennor Fields’, eases the listener in to the release, with intriguing, broad soundscapes, lush, ethereal pads, and gritty, lo-fi drums that collectively take the listener through a 8-minute sonic day-dream. A beautiful, melancholic and catchy lead melody keeps the track driving along throughout - playing wonderfully off the soaring background synths and ambiences, and leaving the listener craving more.

‘Aria’ continues the dream-like aesthetic, teasing the listener in with shimmering chord stabs, and a signature deep, organic drum groove - which is glued perfectly together with the constant motion of the bassline. The introduction of a strong breakbeat adds a unique twist, providing an intriguing contrast to the lush synth work - making this a truly memorable piece of dance-floor euphoria.

‘Every Face Becomes A Skull’ is certainly the tougher of the three tracks, and perfectly juxtaposes the ethereal qualities of the previous two tracks. A punchy, classic 909-drum groove - coupled with a hypnotic and groovy bassline and trippy melodics take the listener into a journey through the darker side of Jozef K’s sound, to round out Cognitive Prophecy’s first EP with a bang.

For Fan Of: Journey, Rainbow, Kansas, Fates Warning, Armored Saint, Van Halen, Scorpions, Arch/Matheos, Warlord, Jethro Tull When Mark Zonder, famed former Fates Warning and Warlord drummer, started working on material in early 2020 he had a very clear vision for the band he wanted to put together. “I wanted to have a very accessible band that would appeal to the masses and would lead to the ability to tour larger venues. I knew from myself and the others that I would recruit, it would have some sophisticated music parts but the big hook was the main priority.” The result was A-Z, reuniting him with Fates Warning vocalist Ray Alder, Warlord/Steve Vai/Ring of Fire bassist Philip Bynoe, guitarist Joop Wolters and keyboardist Vivien Lalu, the combination of these players stirring up a very specific kind of magic that could not be replicated. The goal was always the same: shorter songs and getting right to the chorus, no twelve-minute songs, and everyone found it easy working to this remit. With everything else coming together nicely, finding the right singer was the hardest aspect of the whole process.

The recipe for success? Six killer musicians, five dapper suits, irresistible songs, one vintage organ and nonstop touring.

Toshi Ichiyanagi, Michael Ranta and Takehisa Kosugi originally got together in the summer of 1975 for an open-air concert in Sapporo. The concert felt like a great success but was unfortunately not recorded. As the desire arose to record together, they managed to arrange a studio session in the NHK Studio in Tokyo, with presence of sound engineers. What was supposed to be a soundcheck for this session became the session itself: a haunting 50-minute séance of intense avantgarde improvisation using a large instrumentation and live processing (tape echo, ring modulation, phasing). A trident travelogue of the momentum masterfully controlled by the ensemble spirit, transcending the boundaries of psychedelic underground.

Official reissue of this underground classic from 1975, originally released in a tiny edition on the small Japanese Iskra label. As the original master tapes of these recordings seem to be lost, the master had to be taken from an unplayed original LP copy. It was carefully restored and mastered by Jos Smolders with amazing result.

Based in São Paulo, the Clube Tormenta collective has operated as part label, part promoter for the city’s rich musical tapestry for years. Released on Nyege Nyege Tapes is their soundtrack to a short horror film titled ‘O

that sounds unlike anything Ramleh have done, mixing guitar noise, mournful keyboards and anguished vocals.

An iconic Killing Joke mainstay since its initial release in 1979, Turn To Red is available once more as a limited edition 12" pressed on Black Vinyl. Includes a re-mastered version of the original track, a 6 minute 31 second version (In Dub), an 8 minute version (In Dub Extended), re mixed and produced by Youth, plus a re-mastered version of Almost Red.

Hot on the heels of reissuing Les Demerle's debut album in 2021, Groove-Diggers keeps up pace with this reissue of Transcendental Watusi!, the first album he released under his Les Demerle Transfusion moniker in 1979. Across these six tracks, the drummer delivers his trademark Jazz-funk sound, spanning the aural terrain of horn-infused ballad "Once Upon a Time" to the darting bass and percussion-driven sounds of penultimate track "Daggerpoint".

Three slices of unashamedly old skool (two) stepping action from the Above Sound label and 2Step2 (squared) aka DJ Ruby and Jo Public, that'll transport you back to the Sunday scene and UKG's earliest days. On this EP's lead track 'Give Me Some Of That' the duo perfectly catch that intersection between rave elements - the wispy, eerie synths and pitch shifted vocals - and the sophisticated shuffle of American garage. 'Drop The Bass (2022 Remaster)' leans slightly more towards the hardcore flavour, its choppier beats more evocative of the inspired syncopations of breakstep,, while 'What's Gonna Happen' is the trippiest and most optimistic sounding of the three while still packing plenty of rhythmic punch.

Lunatic Harness, µ-Ziq's rare and sought-after fourth album, was originally released in July 1997 on Virgin's Hut Recordings label. It is generally considered to be Mike Paradinas's best work of the nineties. An Apple Music review describes Lunatic Harness as "the prettiest album to come out of the mid-'90s "drill'n'bass movement", noting that Paradinas eschewed the abrasiveness of similar works by Squarepusher and Aphex Twin in favour of "atmospheres of ethereal color and shimmering melody", bringing the album "closer to pop music than anything Paradinas had previously attempted". Planet Mu has compiled a special 256th anniversary edition 4xLP boxset bringing together the My Little Beautiful EP, the Lunatic Harness album and May 1998's Brace Yourself EP (released by USA's Astralwerks label) with the addition of four rare tracks. Discs one and two of the vinyl are the original Lunatic Harness album, disc three compiles the My Little Beautiful b-sides with three unreleased cuts from the period and a remix of Mr.Angry from 1997's Mealtime compilation, while disc four is the 8-track Brace Yourself EP which hasn't been re-issued since 1998. Alien Men is a 9 track compilation of abstract Dub & Synth experiments by a range of new artists coming out of Glasgow's Southside.

The idea for the compilation came about during a time of lengthy periods of isolation, where loneliness, insecurity and a willlingness to connect with other like-minded souls was challenging or near impossible. The artwork was subsequently created and the music followed, allowing each producer to tell their own story throughout this period.

The music featured, although hard to pin down to one notion, is Bass/Grime-esq, mutant Dancehall in parts with awkward, Ambient synth moments across this essential Club/Not Club record.

This quintessential collector's vinyl edition includes Etta James' sensational
debut LP, At Last!, first released by the Chess Records subsidiary label Argo in
1960.
The original ten tracks from the album are akin to a greatest hits collection, with
signature gems like "At Last", "All I Could Do Was Cry", "Anything to Say You're
Mine", "I Just Want to Make Love to You", and "Sunday Kind of Love", among
others. In addition to this original masterpiece, 4 bonus tracks from the same
period are also included.

Delroy Wilson was one of Jamaica's most soulful vocalists, and over a 40-year career the singer unleashed a flood of hits and a multitude of masterpieces. Born in the Kingston neighborhood of Trenchtown, Wilson's phenomenal talent would be his ticket out of the ghetto, and his discovery by producer Coxsone Dodd in 1962 would change the path of Jamaican music.

Damian Lazarus: DJ, producer, Crosstown Rebels label-head and internationally recognised talent. His contributions to electronic music speak for themselves, from championing the likes of Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler in their early days, to running and operating multiple festivals in the form of Day Zero and Get Lost. From global headline tours to achieving several UK Top Ten singles, Gorgon City have become one the UK’s most successful electronic producers in recent years. Crossing over into mainstream popularity whilst remaining true to their underground roots, the boys have sold out venues the world over, with London club highlights including Printworks, Tobacco Dock and O2 Academy Brixton to name a few. US-native Leia Contois is an actress, model and vocalist. Her contributions on Start Over marks her maiden appearance on Crosstown Rebels, setting the tone for a highlight year ahead.

When he's not dishing out breaks-y garage and slick retro-future electro, Burnski still finds time to exercise his decades deep prowess in the art of tech house. On this new drop for Constant Sound he's clearly having a lot of fun sculpting a hefty, big room sound with Ibiza in its sights. 'Trigger' hinges around an epic breakdown-build up which goes off like a rocket when it drops, swinging with glee and leaning in on playful synth licks. 'Go' is an absolute monster too, which nods to Burnski's recent UKG explorations with some rough bass and a killer 4x4 groove. If you want to do some damage in the dance in the classiest of ways, look no further.

Top roots outing from the mellow canary on this dreadlocks man 1979 classic, backed by the Roots Radics in full effect on the big showdown Scientist dub. Both tracks produced by Henry "Junjo" Lawes and recorded at Channel One studio. Ghetto Supastar is a song by American rapper Pras, but is also the name of this new 12" from 207737 on the Detroit Techno Records label. It embodies a new sound coming from the celebrated Motor City that draws on everything which went before and adds new perspective, emotion and sound designs. 'Stella' is a lithe and soulful cut with minimal drums and a cosmic atmosphere, while 'Tribal Dance' brings brighter chords and more playful patterns over raw-ass drums. There is plenty of Omar-S's rough hewn drum work in 'Apply Pressure' and elsewhere '8 Mile Boogie' brings a Mediterranean Balearic vibe to the D in superb fashion. An intriguing EP for sure.

After the intriguing collaborative efforts on their debut EP “Tender Trance” and the follow-up EP “Sueño”, DJ Gigola and Kev Koko are back with a 3-track record. Continuing their hybrid production style, this time, they are joined by rapper Perra Inmunda. Perra’s fast paced flow and staccato rhymes blend seamlessly with Kev Koko’s signature groove. Together with DJ Gigola's airy, ethereal chorus vocals, the result is a playful exploration of modern music that picks up right where the previous EPs left off: blurring lines between techno, pop, and now also, rap. Lyrically, the EP examines three different aspects of love. Sweaty dances on the floor, kisses lost on the way home and the solitude of being left unanswered; it seems only fitting they chose the title “No Es Amor”. The EP will be released on "Live From Earth Klub" on 8 April 2022 in both digital and physical formats.
