Recorded in Memphis, 1960-62 by Home of the Blues Record Company – sixteen tracks of vintage rocking Memphis blues that went unissued at the label’s demise and were lost in a warehouse, ultimately rediscovered and released by Acoustic Archives.

All now remastered to perfection by Oz Fritz and a team of A&R experts working with the original masters, including ones made by Sam Phillips Recording Studios in Memphis.

Featuring the superb arrangements of trumpeter Willie Mitchell, accompanying some of the best singers of the day, with guitar by Sammy Lawhorn, bass by Lewi Steinberg and drums by AI Jackson Jr. Recorded in glorious mono by Scotty Moore at Sam Phillips Recording Service.

Each artist bio had been thoroughly researched under the guidance of Acoustic Archives producer Marc Ryan with the assistance of Dr. Dave Evans, head musicologist at Memphis State U. The story provided in the 12-page booklet includes how these cuts eventually surfaced from the early 1960s and features the photos and commentary on the recording artists, with how the original owners of the Home of The Blues Record Shop, once at 107 Beale Street, worked at the recordings.

DISCO’ was released in November 2020 and entered the charts at Number 1 in the UK, making it Kylie’s eighth UK Number 1 album. It is a record-breaking release for the pop icon, making Kylie the first female solo artist to claim Number 1 albums in five consecutive decades (‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, ‘10s, and ‘20s). ‘DISCO’ received widespread critical acclaim, deemed ‘an irresistible tonic to real life. Thank God for Kylie Minogue’ by Metro in a 5* review, ‘the ultimate rescue remedy’ by The Observer (4*) and ‘an exquisitely produced, effervescent tribute to 70s and 80s disco music and dance as escapism’ by The i (4*).

For ‘DISCO’, Kylie worked with long-time collaborator Biff Standard plus Sky Adams (with whom she worked with on Golden), Teemu Brunila (David Guetta, Jason Derulo) and Maegan Cottone (Iggy Azalea, Demi Lovato), alongside others. The album was largely recorded in lockdown with each team member recording and working from a separate location, leading to Kylie having a vocal engineering credit on all but two of the sixteen tracks on the record.

Formed in 1990 by bass and drum producer Davide Carbone, bass guitarist and vocalist Josh Abrahams, and acid house DJ Steve Robbins, Future Sound of Melbourne crafted a sonic legacy that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.

The EP kicks off with "Alien," a high-octane journey through techno's upbeat 90s soundscapes, setting the stage for an exhilarating sonic adventure. Held (Guru Guru), Clemens Winterhalter, Alex Grünwald und immer wieder Großproduktionen mit Musikern wie Pete York (Spencer Davis Group) und Wolfgang Schmid (Passport).
Eine Ära des musikalischen Experimentierens setzte sich unter eigener Produktion fort. Nach "Flying Torso" folgt "Balance Of Power", das mehr in die esoterischen Gefilde geht - feinste Meditationsmusik mit Ambient-Elementen. 024 jährt sich Harmonias legendäres Debütalbum "Musik von Harmonia" zum 50. Mal. Aus diesem Anlass erscheint eine limitierte Jubiläumsausgabe mit dem Originalalbum sowie einer zweiten Vinyl mit bisher unveröffentlichten Überarbeitungen von Matthew Herbert, James Holden, David Pajo, Kaleema, Vittoria Maccabruni, Dextro, Marta Salogni, u.a. Schwarzes 180g Doppelvinyl im Gatefold.

Das 1973 von Neu!- und Cluster-Mitgliedern gegründete Trio markierte eine Wende im Krautrock: Weg von der Fusionitis, weg vom überambitionierten Gegniedel, weg von der Ironie, die allzu oft nur lausige Fähigkeiten kaschierte. Harmonia spielte seine impressionistischen Skizzen mit minimalistischem Gestus. Kein Text trübte den Sound, alles war repetitiv, friedlich atmosphärisch und irgendwie LoFi. Brian Eno hörte sich so tief rein in diese kitschlosen Versponnenheiten, dass er den Ambient erfinden konnte. Heute, nach 31 Jahren, klingt das etwas unfertig, vor allem die Ein- und Ausstiege, doch der naive Charme der Musik blieb erhalten. Das Album bildet den Auftakt einer Reihe von remasterten Neuauflagen legendärer Brain-Platten. Darunter auch "II" von Cluster. Hat Eno natürlich auch intensiv gehört.

Inspiriert von Flying Lotus und Jake One, aber auch von weiteren Acts aus den Bereichen Hip-Hop, R&B und Electronic (Kaytranada, Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Timbaland, J Dilla, The Neptunes, Madlib), veröffentlicht Sango sein zweites Album: "North Vol.2" knüpft an das gleichnamige 2013er Debüt des Seattler Produzenten an und kommt mit zahlreichen hochkarätigen Features, darunter von Masego, IAMNOBODI, Xavier Omär, Smino, Channel Tres, GoldLink, Jayla Darden, Rochelle Jordan und Ojerime.

Pøltergeist haben bei Bad Omen Records (Watch Hazel, Satan's Satyrs) unterschrieben, und die Kanadier veröffentlichen ihr Debütalbum. Pøltergeist wird als eine Mischung aus Post-Punk, traditionellem Metal und Shoegaze aus den frostigen Ebenen beschrieben und spielt treibenden Coldwave, der einen Weg von den Katakomben in den Kosmos zeichnet. Die vielleicht prägenste Destillation des Pøltergeist-Stils kommt mit der Vorab-Single 'Children Of The Dark', einem eingängigen, stürmischen Rocksong, der auch thematisch auf einer doppelten Ebene funktioniert. Gestärkt durch den lyrischen Einfluss spiritueller Vorläufer wie Moorcock, Lovecraft, Poe und David Lynch von Twin Peaks wurde der Sound von Pøltergeist geboren; ein düsteres, aber magisches Reich, in dem dämmrige Intensität in einem psychischen Kampf mit metallischer Stärke verbunden wird. Guy Moskovich, ein Pianist, dessen harmonisches Gespür und technisches Können ihm viel Anerkennung als aufsteigender Stern im Jazz eingebracht haben, ist die perfekte Ergänzung zu Cohens Basslinien. Yuval Drabkin am Saxophon verleiht dem umfangreichen Ensemble eine weitere Ebene. Sein gefühlvolles Spiel und seine nuancierten Interpretationen verleihen dem Projekt eine überzeugende Stimme und steigern die Gesamttiefe des Albums, das als schwarze Vinyl sowie CD-Digipak erscheint.

Lonnie Smith (1942 – 2021), was an American jazz organist. He was part of several vocal ensembles in the 1950s, includ- ing the Teen Kings which included Grover Washington Jr. Art Kubera, the owner of a local music store, gave Smith his first organ, a Hammond B3. Smith’s affinity for R&B mixed with his own personal style as he became active in the local music scene. In 1965 he met guitarist George Benson. The two con- nected on a personal level and formed the George Benson Quartet, featuring Lonnie Smith, in 1966. After two albums under Benson’s leadership, Smith recorded his first solo al- bum ‘Finger Lickin’ Good (Soul Organ)’ with George Benson and Melvin Sparks on guitar, Ronnie Cuber on baritone sax, and Marion Booker on drums. This combination remained stable for the next five years. After recording several albums with Benson, Smith became a solo recording artist and sub- sequently recorded over 30 albums under his own name.
Numerous prominent jazz artists joined Smith on his albums
and in his live performances, including Lee Morgan, David “Fathead” Newman, King Curtis, Blue Mitchell, and Joe Lova- no. The album ‘Finger Lickin’ Good (Soul Organ)’ showcases Lonnie Smith’s virtuosity and his innovative approach on the organ, with tracks that feature intricate solos and groovy rhythms so typical of the soul jazz and jazz funk genres. Lon- nie Smith was named 9 times “the best organist of the year” by the Jazz Journalists Association.

LP1: Originally recorded by Steve Albini and released in 1989, tweez has been remastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Studio from the original analog master tapes. LP2: tweethan mix. Per Ethan Buckler (Slint bassist on tweez), "Finally - after thirty-five long years - the other guys in Slint decided to be nice to me and let me have my Tweez remix. I complained incessantly back in the day about how the Albini production style ruined our first recording." In 2023, Ethan took the original multi-track recordings to a local studio in Louisville. Upon handing the engineer a copy of a pre-tweez Slint practice tape, he said "Make it sound like this." LP2 of this "tweez (35th anniversary edition)" is the result. Mastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Studio.

Geplant war es von Omega damals logischer Weise nicht, die eigene Karriere in Genre-Phasen einzuteilen. So etwas machen später Musikjournalisten und Fans - und unter ihnen besonders die Statistiker. Nach deren Lesart gilt die zweite Hälfte der Siebziger als Space-Rock-Ära der ungarischen Band. Abgebildet wird sie durch die Trilogie "Time Robber" (1976), "Skyrover" (1978) und schließlich "Gammapolis" (1979). Zwar waren sphärische Klänge bereits davor und auch danach noch im Schaffen des Budapester Quintetts zu vernehmen, derart konzeptionell fokussiert zeigten sich Omega jedoch tatsächlich nur auf diesem Triple. Nimmt man die Erfolgs-LP "Time Robber" weiterhin als Qualitätsmaßstab, hielt auch "Gammapolis" mühelos mit. Die Kompositionen der Gruppe um Sänger Jànos Kòbor waren melancholischer geworden, die bittersüßen Melodien schmeichelten. Das galt besonders für den siebenminütigen Opener "Dawn In The City" ("Hajnal a város felett"), dem Titelsong "Gammapolis" und "Silver Rain" ("Ezüst esö"). Zwischen der westeuropäischen, englischsprachigen Version und dem ungarischen "Original" gibt es neben dem Gesang und der Sprache in der Titelreihenfolge und bei der Songlänge einige kleine Unterschiede. Minimal ließen Omega die instrumentalen Passagen einiger Stücke auf der Muttersprachenvariante länger fließen. Für die westeuropäischen Omega-Platten-Käufer jedoch hatten diese feinen Unterschiede keine Relevanz, kannten sie meist die ungarischen Songs gar nicht. Ebenso wenig dürften sie registriert haben, dass GAMMAPOLIS in Omegas Heimat mit fast einer dreiviertel Million Einheiten die am besten verkaufte LP der Band-Karriere wurde. Das deutsche Cover-Artwork wich jedoch von der ungarischen Version erheblich ab: Zeigte die Bacillus/Bellaphon-Variante die Silhouetten der Musiker vor einem von Flak-Scheinwerfern durchschnittenen Nachthimmel, war auf dem Pepita-Album offenbar die zwar futuristische, allerdings auch karge Welt auf einem fremden Planeten zu sehen.

The Leeds jazz scene is the gift that keeps on giving. From the dub-leaning ambience of Submotion Orchestra through to the afro-jazz fusion of Nubiyan Twist and TC & The Groove Family, a multi-generational lineage has emerged. Adding yet another page to the eclectic story of jazz from the city, emerging punk-jazz upstarts Plantfood announce the imminent arrival of their debut album ‘Carnivores’ on Friday 4th October via Bridge The Gap.

Consisting of JJ Petrie (percussion), Ruben Maric (keyboards), Joe van der Meulen (tenor saxophone), Woolley (baritone saxophone), Finn Hamilton (drums) and Woody Hayden (bass), Plantfood began in the throes of lockdown, during which all the members lived together. The group spent day after day sharing their eclectic music tastes, ranging from the electronic punk of The Prodigy and art-rock of Black Country New Road, through to the jazz dance of Steam Down and The Comet Is Coming. Taking these influences, they crafted their own sound, but without live shows, their only audience was the plants in their rehearsal room:

“We called the band Plantfood because we were writing and rehearsing in one of our bedrooms which was full of house plants. The plants kind of became our only audience, so it was like the music was food for the plants.”

The band’s debut album ‘Carnivores’, plays on this theme, referring to the plants as carnivores for consuming the bands music, whilst also reflecting the apocalyptic palette of sounds and chaos found within the record. However, mirroring the dynamism of a Plantfood live show, the album is anything but one-dimensional. The group expertly balance moments of serenity and vulnerability with cataclysmic urgency, all brought together under the guidance of producer David Haynes (TC & The Groove Family, Nubiyan Twist). The group share:

“The album’s moments of vulnerability and hope are intended as the depiction of a return-to- earth theme (circle of life, growth and decay), reflecting that the cycle of nature is not simply destructive.”

The project’s lead single ‘Y.U.S.’ drew praise from tastemakers including Jamz Supernova on BBC Radio 6, with the track featuring the talents of UK-Palestinian MC Yung Yusuf, a serial collaborator who also appears on album closer ‘Monstera’. Both tracks channel Plantfood’s explosive live energy into a blend of afro-latin rhythms and broken grooves, with the distinctive blend of tenor and baritone saxophone weaving in and out of grime-leaning, poetic exchanges with Yusuf.

Elsewhere, the second single from the project ‘Birdgang Pt. II’ is a fresh take on the band’s contemporary jazz sound, blending jazz, Balkan folk and Moroccan rhythms with a punk edge. The album’s title track resets the balance, soothing the soul through a swirling approach to spiritual jazz that wouldn’t be amiss amongst the Gondwana Records catalogue.

Unlike most of Grant Green's many trio albums, Green Street, which was his second LP as a leader following Grant's First Stand, didn't make use of the organ or the piano, consisting instead of guitar-bass-drums format. For this release tenor saxophonist Shepp was joined by pianist Dave Burrell, bassist Herman Wright, drummer Stephen McCraven and vocals by Annette Lowman. It's a diverse album with the title track featuring Lowman's warm vocals and Shepp's tenor in the background., the band's jazzy swings version of Duke Ellington's ""Squeeze Me"" and 8 other pieces.

This expanded edition of Lover Man includes two tracks ""Margy Pargy"" and ""Tribute To Bessie Smith"" which were previously only available on cd. "

"Le retour à la raison" is an ablum by Teho Teardo"s originally released in 2015. An album that brings together the music written for three Man Ray films. Not a traditional musical accompaniment but a kind of appointment in space with Man Ray. In space, music responds to only one law: truth. Here the relationship between the music and the films is perhaps the most intimate ever achieved by the composer and it is significant that it takes place with silent films in which the director cannot be present. The silent film directors are all dead, missing for decades, and must be intercepted in the cosmos, through the dreams, desires and emotional legacy of their works, like stars shining with their own light. The music is a constellation in a mysterious and seductive world and documents the experience of encountering Man Ray"s art. The project, recorded between March 2014 and May 2015 in Teardo"s Rome studio, mixed and mastered by Boris Wilsdorf at the Anderebaustelle studio in Berlin, was initially conceived for live performance. Presented at Villa Manin, the Maxxi in Rome and the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin, as well as the International Arts Festival in Galway, the album also features Joachim Arbeit (Einsturzende Neubauten), Joe Lally (Fugazi) and David Coulter. The three films by Man Ray that inspired Teardo are "La Retour à la Raison" (1923), "Emak Bakia" (1926) and "L"etoile de Mer" (1928) were also screened during the concerts that followed the album release.

‘Les Cigales’ takes its’ sonic cues from the structure of film and TV music from the 1960s and 70s, channelling the influence of film composers such as Francois de Roubaix and David Axelrod, whilst also sitting somewhere between the washed out, sun-soaked sonics of Surprise Chef and Robohands. As the EP unwinds, its narrative reflects a love story, full of longing, melancholy and drama, connecting with the story of Gyptis and Protis – the founding myth of Marseilles – whose love broke convention and welcomed the arrival of foreign people on French soil.

The project follows The Offline’s debut album ‘La couleur de la mer’, released in November 2023, which saw him create his own soundtrack to a film yet to be made. Inducing images of manorial, fog- swept villas at the seas edge, silhouetted sailing boats and cigar-chomping villains attempting to thwart the mission of an imaginary hero, the record is a masterfully composed sonic journey. ‘Les Cigales’ sees him continue to build upon a distinctive sound that moves from dramatic cues to fragile romanticism, incorporating psychedelic spaciness, retro soul and hip-hop sensibilities informed by his extensive record collection.

"The Night The Zombies Came is Pixies’ tenth album, if you count their classic 1987 4AD mini LP Come On Pilgrim, and first new music since 2022’s acclaimed Doggerel LP. 13 new songs that find Pixies looking ahead to the most cinematic record of their career. Songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Black Francis explains: “Fragments that are related and juxtaposed with other fragments in other songs. And in a collection of songs in a so-called LP, you end up making a kind of movie.” Druidism, apocalyptic shopping malls, mediaeval themed restaurants, 12th century poetic form, surf rock, gargoyles, bog people, and the distinctive dry drum sound of 1970s era Fleetwood Mac are just some of the disparate wonders that inform the new songs. For the new album recording sessions the band returned to work with producer Tom Dalgety, who drummer David Lovering refers to as “a fifth Pixie” after producing 2016’s Head Carrier, 2019’s Beneath the Eyrie and 2022’s Doggerel. Early on in the recording process at Guilford Sound studio in Vermont, the band noticed the new songs were dividing into two camps: what they came to call the “Dust Bowl Songs” - country-tinged, ballad-esque numbers such as ‘Primrose’ and ‘Mercy Me’, and on the other side, the album’s furious punk numbers such as ‘You’re So Impatient’ and ‘Oyster Beds’. Only ‘Jane (The Night the Zombies Came)’ keeps its feet in both camps — reminiscent of early 60s Phil Spector, the band hitting the sweet spot between mushy and abrasive, it’s a track that Black Francis allegedly likened to being chased by a swarm of bees.
The Night The Zombies Came sessions also saw Pixies welcoming new bass player Emma Richardson (Band Of Skulls) to the line up; the first British band member to join the group. There’s also an expanded role for guitarist Joey Santiago. After contributing his first-ever Pixies lyrics on Doggerel, for the new record Santiago wrote the words to ‘Hypnotised’ by completing a complex lyrical riddle of sorts, known as a sestina.

A RADICAL HORIZON is comprised of a series of duets between cellist Lori Goldston and pianist Stefan Christoff, recorded on a late Fall afternoon in Brooklyn, NY. A conversation between friends, these improvised excursions reflect a willingness to be open to the spirits in the space and between the notes; a spirit of communion that, as Stefan writes, "guides and dances with our dialogue together".

Stefan Christoff is a Canadian musician, community organizer, and journalist based in Montreal, Quebec. He has collaborated with artists such as Sam Shalabi and Adriana Camacho, performs with his brother Jordan as a duo in Anarchist Mountains, and has released music on labels such as Moon Villain, Shimmering Moods, and Aural Canyon.

A lifelong community activist, he helped establish the Musicians For Palestine project and has engaged in street-level solidarity work in Lebanon and The Philippines as well as closer to home in Montreal. This is his second appearance on Beacon Sound after 'In Sofia', an album of piano improvisations recorded in Bulgaria, was released on the label in 2023.

Classically trained and rigorously de-trained, possessor of a restless, semi-feral spirit, Lori Goldston is a cellist, composer, improvisor, producer, writer and teacher from Seattle. Her voice as a cellist, amplified or acoustic, is full, textured, committed and original. A relentless inquirer, her work drifts freely across borders that separate genre, discipline, time and geography.

Legendary singer-songwriter Dana Gillespie, with over 70 albums to her credit in a career spanning six decades, adds a new chapter with the release of her stunning new album First Love, available on Fretsore Records. While First Love is a deeply personal album, it marks a shift for Dana who teams up with close friends Marc Almond and Tris Penna who together produced the album. Born in 1949 and raised in London in an era of unrivalled experimentation and artistic rebellion, Dana began her recording career at 15 with Pye Records. Her journey in entertainment is marked by significant milestones, including collaborations with icons such as David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Elton John. A project of refined integrity, recordings including the first single "Spent The Day In Bed" (a Morrissey song) showcase a diversity of influences that only those who have lived the experience could so masterfully convey.

Flame is Slow collects together three acclaimed seven-inch EPs (originally released on the Noisebox label in 1996 and 1997) by the mysterious, mercurial Navigator. The post-Loveless UK underground of the early 1990s was a vibrant place, despite what music biographies may tell you. What might now be lumped together as “post-rock” was in fact a varied and forward-thinking group of artists creating inquisitive music in the wake of the grunge goldrush. Contemporaries such as Hood, Flying Saucer Attack, Movietone and – of course – Mogwai and Arab Strap are rightfully seen as timeless nearly thirty years on but they’re really just the tip of the iceberg. Navigator might get mentioned less but their story is every bit as intriguing as any of their peers. Navigator formed in Norwich in 1994. Their music was consistently introspective and melancholic, but their brief existence of five years saw them move rapidly from traditional song structures towards noise, found sound, free improvisation, electronics, primitive instrument building and – ultimately - silence. They were an enigma back then and they remain so now. They released four seven inches before a solitary album Nostalgie (1997, Swarf Finger Records). Each release felt different to the last but always intimate and peculiar. Their use of sound and space is nothing short of magical. Rough and unsettling textures rub against each other, selected and mixed instinctively. Another band’s discarded mistake becomes a key element in their hands. The band received much acclaim and some genuine commercial success when single When the Wires Fall ended up in the indie charts. They shared stages with Low, David Thomas, Aerial M, Stars Of The Lid and Labradford and toured with Mogwai and Arab Strap culminating in the now-notorious, equipment-levelling performance at The Garage in London. The original version of the group played live for the last time in 1999 before quietly disappearing. It was perhaps inevitable that a band so committed to exploring and refining their sound should end by removing themselves from it entirely. Aside from a brief (and excellent) reformation in 2006 and a CDR compilation of those early seven inches, Navigator have been quiet for over 20 years until now. Flame is Slow assembles the blue, red and green Noisebox EPs into one cohesive album-length collection, remastered with care and reassembled by the band. It rightfully places Navigator where they belong – as one of the most curious, adventurous, and beautiful groups this island has ever produced. “Whenever I think of bands that more people should’ve heard than did, I always think about Navigator. Released on October 25th as a limited-edition double AA 7” on limited edition “Death Grey” vinyl, "Death Grip Kids" is The Lovely Eggs at their most punk rock. Kicking and screaming and stamping their way through three minutes of righteously pissed off fury. With more out of this world artwork by illustrator Casey Raymond, the Double AA features a re-release of their digital single “Memory Man” (which has not been previously available on 7” vinyl until now). ‘Memory Man’ shows the Eggs at their hypnotic, Can-like best. David’s drums lock into a flawless Krautrock inspired groove, whilst Holly’s vocals hang ethereally over the song’s swirling, mesmerising psychedelia. The strictly limited edition 7" also features one of the band’s first ever songs “True Grit” from 2005 which will not be available digitally and can only be heard by buying this vinyl. Both A-sides come from the band’s new album Eggsistentialism, released in May 2024. Recorded by the band at home in Lancaster with production work from Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann, the results are without doubt the most expansive, mind-melting ten songs the band have delivered yet. Vanishing Twin furthers their exploration of decidedly experimental territories with Afternoon X. Crafted with a playful balance of humour and rigour, with each member embracing the role of the multi-instrumentalist and process, over outcome. Following a series of line-up changes, Vanishing Twin is now the tightly honed collective of singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas, drummer Valentina Magaletti (Holy Tongue, Tomaga, Moin) and bassist Susumu Mukai (Zongamin). Harnessing the diverse touchstones of its members; Lucas’ left-field song-craft, Magaletti’s singular approaches to experimental percussion, and Mukai’s long history in the production of electronic music, the band has refined a hypnotic sound at the juncture of minimalism, kosmische, post-punk, and dream-laden, psychedelic pop. These eight fluttering abstractions, culled, collaged, and built upon from a vast constellation of instruments, samples, and unclaimed sources. Lucas employs her voice as an instrument and a generator of raw sound, weaving surreal imagery and uncanny juxtapositions amongst the dance and propellant drive. From infectious grooves of the album’s title track and the constrained minimalism of “Subito”, to the ambitious heights of pieces like ‘The Down Below’ and Lazy Garden, which unfurl a psychedelic avant-gardism on the scope and scale of David Axelrod and Scott Walker. Veteran comrade Joyce Rooks adds texture with her trademark cello to Mia’s ‘Albino Dog’, whilst privates’ Nigel Gwennap (‘The Day that David Bowie Died’) and Whitehall Rec’s Joel Baldwin contribute electric guitar and drum programming respectively. But it’s the work of the captain that captivates this whole package. Tim Newman (Love is a Ghost), arranger, sound alchemist, mixer and lunatic. Tim’s work with David is best savoured via their ‘Analogue Excavations & Dream Excavations’ 2002 Glass Modern set. ‘Loner’ offers the listener a kaleidoscope of sounds best experienced with headphones, the journey from David’s simple ‘Albino Dog’ strummed acoustic demo to ‘Crescendo’ is quite staggering. Joel’s synth on ‘Cold, Cold, Cold’ and the glitch added to Mia’s vocal (‘Loner on the Range’) for example take the song into an altogether different direction. But it’s ‘Crescendo’ though that sits atop the apex. Building, as the title suggests, into a blistering array of guitars, bass and drums with a gorgeous, ethereal repeating low vocal motif from Mia wrapping itself around the cacophony.

Don Heffington was a musician's musician. Starting his professional career in the late 70s and early 80s as a part of Emmylou Harris' Hot Band and seminal alt-country pioneers Lone Justice, Heffington went on to a session career that included work with Bob Dylan, Dwight Yoakam, The Jayhawks, Dave Alvin, The Wallflowers, and many, many more. Heffington was also a prolific songwriter, and here, his colleagues and friends pay loving tribute to those songs in a benefit for the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund (Heffington passed away in 2021 from Leukemia). Artists such as Jackson Browne, Fiona Apple, Buddy Miller, Dave Alvin, Watkins Family Hour, Peter Case, and others interpret Don's quirky songs. In the words of Jackson Browne: "I think of (Don) as inhabiting the same Los Angeles as Warren Zevon, Lowell George and Tom Waits.”

Originally released following Deep Purple’s split in 1976, David Coverdale’s first two solo albums will be available on vinyl for Rocktober 2024, newly remixed and presented as Whitesnake records. Featuring future Whitesnake lead guitarist Micky Moody, and produced by Deep Purple’s Roger Glover, these long out of print albums are a key part of the David Coverdale and Whitesnake story.

Wie der Song selbst angelegt als eine 'Ode an die Freundschaft', kam es bei den Dreharbeiten, bei denen er Studenten während der letzten ausgelassenen Tage ihres Semesters begleiten wollte, zu einer dramatischen Wendung, die dem Song im Nachhinein eine ganz neue Bedeutung gab. Ein bewaffneter Einzeltäter erschien auf dem Campus, erschoss einen Freund der Gruppe und verletzte zwei weitere Menschen. Nach reiflicher Überlegung beschlossen die Beteiligten, die Dreharbeiten fortzusetzen und den Opfern mit dem Video ein Denkmal zu setzen.

Zur Feier des 10-jährigen Jubiläums des gefeierten Debütalbums „Islands“ von Bear's Den aus dem Jahr 2014 wird das Vinyl in einer neuen limitierten Farbe veröffentlicht. Das Album enthält Fan-Lieblingssingles wie „Agape“ und das für den britischen Ivor Novello Award nominierte „Above the Clouds of Pompeii“.

After seven years, Japandroids have returned with Fate and Alcohol, their fourth and final full-length. Written in part while the Vancouver duo-guitarist-vocalist Brian King and drummer-vocalist David Prowse-were touring behind their 2017 ANTI- debut, Near to the Wild Heart of Life, the album is at once a return to form and a thrilling step forward, testament to the sort of chemistry that they"ve honed over the course of 18 years and hundreds of shows side-by-side. Their aim was simply to write songs that they"d enjoy playing live, without sacrificing any of the nuance or ambition that marked their previous effort. Nowhere on this record is that more deeply felt than lead single "Chicago," a song whose sheer momentum feels inevitable and true-from the inherent romance of its opening chords to the series of snare-led explosions that see it through. Like the rest of Fate and Alcohol, it was recorded in Vancouver with longtime collaborator Jesse Gander, who also engineered 2009"s Post-Nothing and 2012"s Celebration Rock. "The very first demo we have of "Chicago" was recorded in our jam space on February 4th, 2020," King says, "and if you listen to that, it just sounds like a rough version of what you hear on the record. But it"s all there. That, in some ways, is the most ideal circumstance for a band like us: just having something that really rips in your jam space, something that feels good, something that you"re excited about."

BLIND EGO ist zurück! Der Gitarrist der deutschen Vorzeige-Artrock-Band RPWL Kalle Wallner hat sein Versprechen wahr gemacht und ein neues Album aufgenommen. "The Hunting Party" drückt im Vergleich zu seiner Hauptband RPWL das Pedal deutlich zugunsten von Rock- und Metal-Elementen durch. Seit dem Debut aus dem Jahre 2007 ist der neue Longplayer bereits sein fünftes Studio-Album. Dazu erschien 2017 ein Live-Album und 2022 sein "beinahe-Instrumental"-Album "Voices" unter eigenem Namen. Wallner scheinen die Ideen und die Lust am Produzieren nicht auszugehen - trotz seiner Hauptband RPWL, dem eigenem Label Gentle Art Of Music, seinem Tonstudio und vielen weiteren Projekten als Produzent und Gitarrist. Dabei stand die Tour des letzten Albums 'Preaching To The Choir' unter keinem guten Stern. Für viele Fans waren diese Konzerte im Frühling 2020 die letzten unmittelbar vor dem Corona-Lockdown und für viele Monate die letzten Konzert-Erlebnisse. Zum großartigen Gesamteindruck des Albums trägt neben Wallners außergewöhnlichem und markantem Gitarrenspiel vor allem der talentierte und erstklassige Sänger Kevin Kearns bei. Kearns, der bei seiner eigenen Metalcore-Band Cyant normalerweise ganz andere Töne anschlägt, entpuppt sich als Idealbesetzung: er interpretiert die Songs auf 'The Hunting Party' ganz besonders emotional, nimmt einen durch alle leisen und lauten Passagen mit - mal schnörkellos, mal filigran, aber immer höchst ausdrucksstark und voller Energie strotzend.?Dazu gesellen sich erneut Ausnahme-Drummer Michael Christoph und Wallners langjähriger musikalischer Weggefährte Yogi Lang (RPWL), der dem Album nicht nur als Mitproduzent und Keyboarder seinen Stempel aufdrückt, sondern sich auch für den glasklaren Mix und das Mastering verantwortlich zeigt.
Kevin Kearns führt hier den Hörer atemberaubend durch alle emotionalen Höhen und Tiefen, ehe die Wogen ruhiger werden und der längste Song des Albums mit einen wunderschönen Gitarren-Solo schließt. The songs on A Lover Was Born reconfigure the spliced and sampled DNA of hip hop (extracted by crate diggers like Dilla and RZA) to create something new, underscoring both the spectrum and depth of soul while making a case to the timelessness of Finnigan's sound.

Pianist Aaron Parks returns to Blue Note—where he released his influential 2008 album Invisible Cinema—with Little Big III, the third studio album from his acclaimed band Little Big featuring guitarist Greg Tuohey, bassist David Ginyard Jr., and drummer Jongkuk Kim. Co-produced by Parks and Don Was, the collective’s concise, accessible writing and vibrant, empathetic playing elevate the band’s powerfully modern, post-genre concept for improvised music in the 21st century.

Nour Mobarak’s Dafne Phono is an adaptation of the first opera, Dafne, composed and written by Jacopo Peri and Ottavio Rinuccini in 1598. Drawing on the myth of Daphne and Apollo from Ovid’s Metamorphoses—a story of unrequited love, patriarchal possession, conquest, and transformation—Mobarak’s multimedia and multispecies reimagining splinters the opera’s Italian libretto. Alongside English and Greek versions, it is translated into some of the world’s most phonetically complex languages—Abkhaz, San Juan Quiahije Eastern Chatino, Silbo Gomero, and !Xoon. In this process, the narrative—and an artifact of Western culture—is dismantled, metabolized, and rendered into unruly utterances that shape the sensorium as much as they do the capacity for sense-making. These voices are given material form by a cast of mycelium sonic sculptures whose rhizomatic compositions and broadcasted recordings resemble the formation and mutation of language over time, reconstituting speech into a new, polyphonic body politic, composed of voices whose striking, poetic utterances transfix and transcend meaning.

The A-Side of the record presents a stereo version of Mobarak’s 15-channel sound installation, Dafne Phono. The B-Side uses a recording of a portion of the translation process the libretto underwent in Namibia, live-processed by the artist.

The LP is published on the occasion of Nour Mobarak’s exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York (October 26, 2024–January 12, 2025), with support from Sylvia Kouvali.

Contemporary Art Centre, Riga; Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York; Hakuna Matata, Los Angeles; and Cubitt Gallery, London. Exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Castello di Tivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turin, are forthcoming. Kumar, former lead singer of GRAMMY-nominated roots reggae band Raging Fyah, meets Switzerland's The 18th Parallel on this album filled with classic Roots Radics-inspired riddims and positive roots lyrics and energy. Four years in the making, going back and forth from Kingston to Geneva, TALES OF REALITY is a tribute to the golden age of Jamaican roots music done in a modern way. Kumar has recently appeared on a number of releases, including as a guest on Jesse Royal's GRAMMY-nominated ROYAL and Winta James' Gratitude Riddim EP. The 18th Parallel, based in Switzerland, is the house band for Fruits Records and recently released music"with Max Romeo, Big Youth, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Derajah, Micah Shemaiah, and Joe Yorke. The album is mixed by Tippy I and JAH David of Zion I Kings. Kumar's and Fruits Records' story together goes back to the foundation of the label in 2015. " The 18th Parallel first invited Kumar to sing on 'Pass It On' (2016). At the same time, Kumar and his band Raging Fyah were exploding on the reggae scene. A couple years later, starting his solo career, Kumar was invited to sing on Najavibes' song 'This Dust' (2019), another offspring from the Fruits Records stable. In 2020, Kumar teamed up with The 18th Parallel on 'Message In The Radio.' After three singles, Fruits Records felt the need to push the collaboration further by producing a full showcase album pairing Kumar with The 18th Parallel.

Following on from last years's "Mondo Organico" compilation, the latest Invisible Inc compilation EP "Mondo Ritmo" sets its sights firmly on rhythm and percussion.

Featuring a global array of artists hailing from Argentina to Senegal and everywhere in between, the influences and styles featured include latin, afro, dub, dancehall, experimental, acid and more.
Proven and tested dancefloor bombs are Mytron & Balam's opening track "Cabasa Loca" which label boss GK Machine has been spinning at his Wrong Party nights and elsewhere for the last 6 months or so...and the house/dancehall hybrid floor filler "Wicked Can't Run" by LA producer Tom Chasteen (Exist Dance/Dub Club) featuring legendary Jamaican DJ and toaster U Brown, and mixed by equally legendary producer/keyboardist David Harrow who first came to our attention through his regular keyboard contributions to all things On-U Sound related in the 1980s.

The rest of the tracks may not be peak time bangers but they are sure to please the more esoteric and adventurous dancefloors out there...it's an honour to have on board Calypso Records head honcho Thomass Jackson, Thomash (Voodoohop) and GATS (Suçuarana / Curuba) who together as Changa Boys bring in Senegalese drummer Ndiaxo dal Jaam, and last but not least a certain Machine with assistance on percussion from the mysterious Congo Caveman.

Artist, composer and producer James William Blades" score Pare De Sufrir will be released via AD 93. Today Blades will be releasing a preview of the album with the single Alma Germela. Pare De Sufrir (translating to "End of Suffering") is the official soundtrack to A.G Rojas" film of the same title.

Dublin based label Awareness Systems returns with their Combination 2 EP which is a split EP between label boss Pineal Navigation and the prolific Stanislav Tolkachev. After great support for Combination 1 EP from Marcel Dettman, Dave Clarke, Kaiser and Charlton to name a few, the second release continues it’s progress with four analogue live cuts furthering the label’s aim to heighten the energetic state through cerebral techno music.
With a track a piece on each side the record moves from the hypnotic machine rhythms of Stanislav Tolkachev’s A1 track "Battleground" which paints an apocalyptic landscape
with relentless bass heavy drum programming, into two tracks by Pineal Navigation which are both trippy and moody with heavy mo-town vibes. Lover's of Rob Hood and early Underground Resistance take note. The EP is rounded out by Tolkachev on B2 who delivers a relentless driving track of acidic machine funk.

In Cornish slang it is said that things get done ‘dreckly’; that is, not now, not necessarily tomorrow, but, at some indefinite point...in the future...soon...

Fitting then that when Bristol’s Langkamer decamped to their de facto home-from-home in the picturesque south-west seaside town of Falmouth to record their third album in as many years (with an EP thrown in there too) - there was no particular need to rush things: “The process was much slower and more considered for Langzamer.”, drummer/vocalist Josh Jarman explains: “The first two albums felt pretty urgent, and each was finished in about 6 months, but this one feels a lot more deliberate. It’s taken us two years to get this done.”

Equally fitting too that Langzamer kicks off proceedings with ‘Heart of Tin’: the first bars are languidly lugubrious, so deliciously plucked-out and scuzzed-up that they linger in the air like passing smoke, magically, slowing time down to their own assured and steady will. And in so much time, that also feels like no time at all, comes an opening line of such stark, disarming confessionalism as might be found in the David Berman/Silver Jews songbook: “Do you want the good news or the bad news first? // They’re both bad news, but the bad is worse” It’s Langkamer in a nutshell: embattled, heart-on-sleeve Slacker Rock slaked with twinges of fret-sliding Americana, yet deeply embedded in the folk mythologies, colloquialisms and experiences of the band’s West Country roots.

Throughout Langzamer, confronting the listener again and again is this conflict between the band’s breezy, melodic charm, and the threat of something more sinister lurking in the undergrowth. While those more familiar with Langkamer’s oeuvre to date will have already come to know and love their often self-deprecating yet witty lyricism, the songs on Langzamer take this trademark ebullient gloominess to more challenging plains: “Principally this is an album about grief, and everything that entails...” explains Jarman. “in a sense death brought these songs to life.”

This thread is felt no more so than on ‘Salvation XL’. Inspired by a “particularly bad batch of food poisoning I had in Morocco”, Jarman explains, and beginning with the memorable opening line, “Jesus came to me a Burger King in Marrakech”, the band wind their way through the ‘big topics’: death and God.

“This trip was shortly after a few of my friends had passed away, and I think a lot of my thoughts and actions at that time were being influenced by my grief without me realising it.”, he explains, “Whenever I dwell on grief, and how death has given my life a new context, I come back to that. The ongoing battle between agnosticism and atheism. I wasn’t raised in a very strict religious home, but I come from a long line of methodists, and it’s interesting to think about the way theism and religion have shaped my life without me knowing it. I think that’s being channelled on this album a lot. The uncertainty that comes with disbelief.”

Our collective mortal frailties are also felt on lead single ‘Richard E Grant’. With a trademark bittersweetness, a track that begins as an appreciation of the actor’s humorous social media presence unfolds as a study on “finding healthy coping strategies to deal with loss.”. Elsewhere, ‘At The Lake’ - to the tune of mournful, folk-like balladry - explores binge-drinking culture and the troubled association between unhealthy behaviour and creativity. The listener is left in no mind as to the meaning behind the references to James Joyce and Janis Jopin as “souvenirs stolen from the dark”.

With themes as weighty as these strewn across the album’s 10 tracks, It seemed like a particularly astute move then for the band to personally approach Ben Woods, founder of the Golden Dregs, to assist on production duties. Not only would the delicate intimacies of Woods’ main project - see 2023’s On Grace & Dignity for reference - add an appropriate moodiness, but Woods was also born and raised in Cornwall, where the album was recorded; amidst “eating pasties” and breaks by the sea, Woods and the band transformed the vaults underneath iconic Falmouth venue The Cornish Bank into a makeshift studio for a weeks’ worth of recording. Occasionally friends would drop by to lighten the load; Zander Sharp tracking violin on ’Double Island’ and ‘Flight’; Josh Law and Ben Sadler of Breakfast Records labelmates Getdown Services, both of whom contribute to the soul-stirring ‘mountain’ chorus on ‘Aberfan’.

When compared to the brightness of 2023’s The Noon and Midnight Manual, Woods’ influence on the record seems indisputable. On the aforementioned ‘At The Lake’, for instance, which features backing vocals from Woods. Or, most acutely, on the piano strains of harrowing closer ‘Bluff’, a track with such chilling, spectral severity as to effect the band’s most heartbreaking effort to date. While it’s particularly sombre note on which end proceedings, it's also an appropriate one: Langzamer bravely stands tall as their most restrained, matured, and sincere collection to date. And almost by virtue of its impeccable honesty, those moments of sunshine-joy that creep through the cracks feel that much more golden.

US House Music legend Teddy Douglas of Basement Boys and Jasper St. Co. fame gets set to unleash his first solo artist album, ‘I’m Here’, on the iconic label, Nervous Records. Baltimore’s Teddy Douglas has produced everyone from Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Crystal Waters, Erykah Badu, Martha Wash and Ultra Nate’ and was an important figure in the development of the Baltimore “House” Sound. Teddy has held down a long and successful DJ career since 1983 staring out in Baltimore and spreading his wings globally gracing the decks at clubs such as Yellow in Japan to London’s Ministry of Sound and beyond. In 1985 he met Jay Steinhour and Thommy Davis, who later formed The Basement Boys production company. The Basement Boys have produced countless dance classics like Crystal Waters’ 1991 Gold single, ‘Gypsy Woman’. In the mid 90’s Teddy Douglas and Jay Steinhour opened Basement Boys Records and released club anthems from Teddy Douglas, Jasper St. Co., Ann Nesby, Those Guys, DJ Spen, Byron Stingly, Karizma, Kenny Bobien, Taja Seville and more

In collaboration with musicians and parody artists Auralnauts, Stumpy Frog Records has pressed the soundtrack to their ongoing series of ‘As Seen on TV’ parodies known as the ‘Infomercial Wars’. During an unspecified point in time, a faceless dystopian company pushes out products under the guise of improving the quality of life for humanity. The commercials have a sexy presentation to them, designed to lull the viewer into a hypnotic state and gloss over what is really being sold to them: enslavement to an evil entity. The true purpose of these products is clear to anyone with an iron will: to imprison your mind, strip away your humanity and weaponize what remains. Humanity’s only hope is a scrappy group of freedom fighters whose key to success is convincing you to buy their products instead of the enemy’s. May the best infomercial win. Beyond humanity. Beyond Copper. The parody series is made up of real life infomercials with complete audio makeovers. The products themselves vary from one commercial to the next, but a popular trend in these ads is the seemingly unlimited uses for copper, which is taken even further by the parody versions. The bubbly pitchman from the source material has been replaced by a soothing, yet vaguely threatening alien presence. This mysterious voice paints a picture of a world that would make David Cronenberg and James Cameron blush, and all of it is held together by a dystopian soundtrack that is perfect for ushering humanity into the next step of this forced evolution. …Into a Real Thing is the first record David Porter produced by himself, and it sounds like an important checkpoint in the invention of progressive R&B as a genre, an album that bent the space-time continuum around R&B and willed it into something new altogether. It’s in conversation with Isaac Hayes’ own output of the era — Hot Buttered Soul especially — but where Hayes blew up the R&B form by throwing a bomb into it, helping create funk in the process, Porter worked more firmly in R&B’s space to build something new from within. …Into a Real Thing is a six-song powerhouse that manages to cram an 11-minute cover of a garage rock hit by the guy who’d later write Hulk Hogan’s entrance song alongside gut-bucket ballads with intricate string arrangements, and metaphorical tracks that compare grocery delivery to lovemaking. Its 33 minutes feel more like a fever dream than most other collections of 33 minutes.

'Star People,' the blistering 1983 album from Miles Davis, is the VMP Classics Record of the Month for November 2022. It's here on 180g black audiophile vinyl pressed at RTI with AAA lacquers cut from tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.

The sacred mushroom played rock music heavily influenced by the blues. Their only self-titled LP released in 1969 on the audio fidelity records label, has be remastered and released again by Akarma Records. The original album is reproduced beautifully and a colorful story about the group by an unknown historian is included on the back cover of the LP.

All the songs are originals with the exception of a Ray Davies song titled 'I'm not like everybody else.' Considering the date that this was recorded, it sounds surprisingly vibrant and hardly outdated. In any event, this is great music. It's a splendid tribute to the blues and how rock music gave the style the respect and admiration that it justly deserved.

This is crank-it-up-loud blues rock that you will surely enjoy if you happen to get into either style of music.

Und wo du bist, ist es nicht gut, es sei denn, du kannst davon wegkommen". In Goats ewigem Jetzt der Erneuerung und Offenbarung gab es nie ein wirksameres Mittel zur Flucht. Nach langer Wartezeit ist "Scott Matthew" - das selbstbenannte Debut des Singer-Songwriters aus 2007 nun endlich wieder erhältlich; und zwar nicht einfach nur wieder da, sondern als limitierte Special Edition in Blue colored Vinyl. Mit diesem Album wurde Scott Matthew schlagartig zu dem Namen, den man kennen muss - die FAZ sprach sofort von einer Ausnahmeerscheinung, der Rolling Stone zog den Vergleich mit dem frühen David Bowie, die Süddeutsche Zeitung fand diese Musik sanft, entrückt und hoch fliegend und ging soweit zu schreiben, hier ziele jemand auf das Universelle. Dass diese Einschätzungen richtig waren, kann man heute auch daran erkennen, wie gut diese Musik gealtert ist, nämlich gar nicht. Immer noch enthalten diese 11 Songs die Quintessenz dessen, was guter Pop-Musik ihren Unterhaltungs- und kulturellen Wert gibt: dass sie eingängig ist und gleichzeitig Tiefgang hat, dass sie Authentizität mit musikalischer Qualität verbindet, dass sie kleine und große Gefühle anspricht und aber sich und uns die Didaktik erspart. "Scott Matthew" ist zudem Startpunkt und Zeugnis dessen, was diesen Musiker zum Unikat macht - wir finden die sensiblen Arrangements, die traurig schönen Balladen-Texte, das tief-persönliche, die Ukulele, das akustische zarte und die Streicher, die Eleganz und den Schwulst und das Bescheidene, das Langsame. Eigentlich kann man Scott Matthew nicht verstehen, wenn man dieses Album nicht kennt. Und es ist zudem der heimliche Star und quasi Soundtrack des Films "Shortbus", der inzwischen zu einem Lieblings-Kultfilm der Independent-LGBTQ+ und Sex Positivity-Szene avanciert ist und zudem die Hommage an die Arty-Community des New York der Nuller-Jahre ist (und damit heute bereits nostalgiegeschwängertes Retro-Kino). Nun ist die Zeit reif für ihr neues Album: *Some Still Dance* enthält 14 Tracks, davon 10 Songs auf Englisch und vier auf Rumänisch, darunter vier neu gemasterte ältere Favoriten und der legendären ,Patrula"-Song.
