Angeführt von Posaunist und Musikdirektor Harry Roche, mit ein wenig Unterstützung von einer
Gruppe von Arrangeuren, darunter Pete Moore (der Mann, der für das unvergessliche Pearl &
Dean-Jingle verantwortlich war), Don Lusher und sogar Stan Tracey, war die Constellation eigentlich
nie eine fest arbeitende Band, sondern eher eine Gruppe führender Session-Musiker.
"Spiral" bietet jazzige, funkige und verrückte, aber entspannte Instrumental-Neuinterpretationen von
Stevie Wonder, The Who und Bob Dylan. Der Titeltrack enthält den Gesang von Claire Torrey, die
auch zu Pink Floyds "The Dark Side of the Moon" beigetragen hat. Das Album wurde bei seiner

Brueder Selke, a polyinstrumental composer duo originally from East Berlin, consistently enriches the repertoire of their two primary instruments: cello and piano. Their independent curator role shines through as they frequently host boutique concerts and happenings, featuring both established and emerging artists during their yearly Q3Ambientfest.

'Go East' marks a significant milestone in the long-term collaboration of Brueder Selke, two brothers who grew up on the socialist side of the Berlin Wall. The tracks are driven by the essential components of a restored Piano-Strings machine, along with two electronic organs named Sandy and the ET6-1, and a E-Piano, all manufactured by Vermona in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Their innate sense of interplay, developed during their upbringing in GDR times, stems from a deep-rooted longing for connection and exchange with like-minded musicians and individuals. Through their music, they convey ideas that embrace a universal duality, showcasing how diverse elements harmoniously complement each other. The album encompasses a wide range of atmospheric moods, from intimate classical chamber music to expansive textural landscapes created by these now rarely intact socialist synthesizers, with their parameters mimicking strings and keyboard instruments. In this ironic and thoughtful manner, Sebastian and Daniel once again skilfully let their main instruments, cello and piano, merge into one another.

'Go East' aptly reflects the artist's profoundly experimental yet accessible approach, making it their 8th duo album. The 2x2 recordings were produced in their Klingenthal Studio in Potsdam in February 2022.

Much has been written and talked about when it comes to producer/DJ Ricardo Villalobos over the years.
The mercurial Chilean-German artist has consistently redefined the boundaries of techno and electronica over the past 30-years as a producer, whilst also traversing the world and expanding minds as a DJ who can equally delight as he does challenge.Like a great jazz drummer (he was a percussionist before discovering mixing records), Villalobos has not so much as broken “the rules” of structure as just created his own unique approach. One that is often surprising, ever open-minded, and clearly lead by whatever happens to be inspiring him at any given moment. Watching him work or hearing him play music always feels live and free. He’s an artist. And that is exactly how this (perhaps unlikely) collaborative album has come to light – but then this is Ricardo, so maybe we should all know by now that anything is possible.
Villalobos explains, “In my scientific search for some electroacoustic musical landscapes, the offer of remixing ‘Black Apple Pink Apple’ was just perfect for me… In general, the song writing is so very good and particular, with all the instruments played into a sequencer, so it was very inspiring to strip down these pop songs into my dubby extensions, taking only the drums, bass, and vocals of the song.” Expanding further, “After delivering the first remix, Mo and myself came up with the idea of reimagining the whole album in a new way, mixed simple with other ears and my inspirations, with a new and different point of view of what instruments are important to hold the song to bare itself.”
It says a lot, and somehow captures the essence of Ricardo’s approach to music (and life), that one remix soon evolved into a whole plethora of reimagined works, driven by a creative slipstream and a clear connection to the songs created by A Mountain of One.
Mo Morris provides more insight into his own connection with Villalobos, “I lived in Berlin back in 2002-04 and used to religiously go to dance to Rici at the after (after) hours parties: little, tiny events. And he just used to blow my mind, I hadn’t heard anything like it before (or since). Ultra-modern and forward thinking.”
Mo continues, “A good friend connected to Ibiza happenings introduced me to Ricardo as it transpired that he was a fan of our early material, so I sent him some demo’s when we were in the studio creating ‘Stars Planets Dust Me’ and he loved ‘Black Apple Pink Apple’. The relationship and collaboration grew from there really, and I hope that this release is still at the start of what we can all create together.”
Focussing in on the album at hand – ‘Ricardo Villalobos reimagines: Stars Planets Dust Me’ – we are treated to a concept listen that guides us from dreamy daytime Balearic pop – staying very true to the original songs – all the way through to completely original deep dubby techno excursions. And to Villalobos fans, it will perhaps surprise (and hopefully delight) how light a touch he has provided to the opening tracks, focussing more on enhancing the sonics, and allowing the originals to shine brighter through remastering and mixing down. It’s in these moments that we see Ricardo as a pure music fan, needing not overly change or alter what’s already been created, but simply doing what he can to maximise what’s already there.
What will certainly delight Ricardo fans are the four full ‘klub’ remixes provided of ‘Black Apple Pink Apple’, ‘Make My Love Grow’, ‘Softlanding’ and ‘Dealer’ that each boldly explore the outer regions of the dancefloor in a way that only Villalobos can.
Mo rounds off, “From an electronic and sonics standpoint he’s kind of out there on his own. It’s such a unique sound. Weatherall also had this, and Harvey has that unique flavour, and also people like Nils Frahm and Max Richter have this gift. It’s not an easy thing to produce. Ricardo has his own personal cosmic trademark.”

After two years, Carl and Andreas present their second album, and once again, it opens up a wide associative space for us. What strikes us initially is the uncommon instrumentation: a church organ, harpsichord, glass tubes, and more. Like their first album (The Aporias of Futurism), it is mysterious and dark. But it also carries a strong touch of rebellion and adrenaline, sometimes quite pointedly. The pieces are now shorter and feature intricate yet irresistible rhythms. The impact is immediate, yet it maintains a sense of solemnity and ceremony. The Apollonian complexity of the rhythms and subtle melodic interweavings is transformed into a Dionysian, ecstatic, hypnotic, and at times tribal context. "Music for Unknown Rituals" oscillates between primitive instincts and avant-garde intrigues.

The process began in Döblitz, a small village on the Saale river in Germany, inside an old church that houses an organ built in 1886 by Johann Adolph Ibach. Carl and Andreas gained access and secluded themselves there for a few days, accompanied by the organ, an instrument made of glass tubes, and a set of modular synthesizers. After recording the basic tracks in Döblitz, the work continued in Munich and Berlin. Carl played electric guitars, harpsichord, bass, metallophone, xylophone, Indian harmonium, and various percussive instruments. Andreas added layers of electronic sounds, noises, and atmospheric drones. He also created percussive structures extracted and derived from recorded material of technical and industrial noises, which contrasted with the acoustic drums played by Carl. The antithetical approach continues with the dichotomous arrangement of the instruments, often panned hard left and right in the stereo field, creating an antiphonic communication. Some parts, especially the use of the electric guitar, evoke memories of the psychedelic sixties. However, this is anything but a nostalgic album—these musical references are merely remnants, set pieces, and fragments used from a contemporary, post-modern, post-youth-cultural, and post-romantic perspective.

Although Andreas and Carl continue on their chosen path of composing music with an almost literary narrative structure, this album is conceptually and formally completely different from their first effort. If “The Aporias of Futurism” was a revolutionary manifesto (in a pataphysical sense), "Music for Unknown Rituals" is more like the implementation in action; it is the practical application of the previous statement. To put it another way, if "The Aporias of Futurism” was the conceptual manifesto of a dark utopia of modernity, "Music for Unknown Rituals" is the staging of free will surrendering to the myths and catharsis of a Greek tragedy. And in response to this, the artwork features a leitmotif of histrionics with hands, the hands being the first and intuitive part of the body to express something: a ritual, a prayer, a defeat...

— Andreas Gerth is one half of Driftmachine, and Carl Osterhelt is part of F.S.K and collaborates with Hans-Joachim Irmler of Faust. Both became connected through their participation in the Tied & Tickled Trio.

Frozen reeds presents the only recorded duo playing of two legendary musical figures. Derek Bailey and Paul Motian – two longstanding pioneers of distinct strains of improvised music – came together for a brief period of collaboration in the early 1990s. Tapes of their two known live performances (one at Groningen’s JazzMarathon festival in the Netherlands, the other a year later at New Music Cafe, NYC) were recently unearthed in the Incus archives, and their contents will surprise and delight fans of both supremely idiosyncratic musicians.

The Groningen concert (1990) is released on vinyl, while the New York date (1991) is included with the digital download, free of charge for all purchasers. A conversation between Bill Frisell and Henry Kaiser on Bailey, Motian, their intertwined backgrounds, and the significance of these recordings is included as sleeve-note insert.

Each player bringing decades of crucial experience to their encounters – with histories taking in vast swathes of the development of jazz and free improvisation – these fleeting shared moments provide some of the most riveting playing in the career of either.

There is precious little recorded evidence of Motian as a free improviser, but his mastery is beyond any doubt in these recordings. From knife-edge precision to textural haze, Motian’s palette is astounding, but perhaps even more impressive is his confidence in the non-idiomatic conversation itself. Pushing far beyond the established vocabulary of free percussion, his playing allows a measured degree of repetition to take form, giving rise to almost song-like structures. The covert influence of the drummer’s work on the post-rock genre (just taking its first nascent steps in the early 1990s) is made overt here.

In turn, Bailey allows some of his most unashamedly melodic passages to unfold without a mote of his trademark contrariness or antagonism. Patterns that would be acerbically disrupted elsewhere are allowed to settle, with variations of note and timbre introduced more gradually than is typical of his playing. When forceful changes in dynamics or tone do arrive, they do so in such close tandem with Motian’s rhythmic and textural transitions as to beggar belief. The guitarist’s duos with percussionists (Jamie Muir, Han Bennink, John Stevens…) arguably provide some of the highlights of his discography. ‘Duo in Concert’ represents a strong addition to the list.

An elegant sense of construction pervades the sets, as the duo ably fulfil the promise of free improvisation: carving out hugely compelling, expertly balanced, and thrillingly paced music as if from thin air.

Harry Romero returns to Crosstown Rebels as he links with vocalist Shyam P for ‘Mind Games’.

With a catalogue as rich as any and continuing at the top of his game two decades after his emergence within New York’s fabled nightlife scene, Harry Romero continues to serve up his own take of Latin-inspired and percussive- driven house music via a long list of the industry’s leading imprints. Having previously remixed Chilean favourite Francisco Allendes on the label last year alongside his collaborative ‘It Hurts’ EP with Jessica Eve in 2021 and his contribution to the ‘Spirits III’ compilation before that, the Bambossa Records head honcho is back on Damian Lazarus’ revered Crosstown Rebels for his latest EP project, uniting London-bon, Dubai based singer/ songwriter Shyam P for the excellent ‘Mind Games’.

Crafting a slick and heady groove before launching into a hypnotic haze accenting by a bubbling bassline, ‘Mind Games’ is an infectious and vibrant house cut as Shyam P’s alluring vocals take hold amongst emotive builds and breaks. Nest, ‘Mira’ is a classic Romero offering as the focus shifts to crisp organic percussion arrangements, carnival-esque whistles and hooky Latin vocals for a bustling terrace number, before ‘Analog Bugz’ takes cues from its title as crisp drum shots and sharp stabs unite to create a no-nonsense builder made for the main room.

Bryan Ferrys neuntes Solo-Studioalbum "Mamouna" wird zum ersten Mal seit 1994 wiederveröffentlicht und erscheint in zwei Deluxe-Formaten. Bennich is one of the most interesting new voices on the Scandinavian scene and presents all-original compositions for his first outing written for his band of pianist Britta Virves, double bassist Tomas Sjödell and drummer Emil Norman. Special guest vocalist Helen Salim joins for one track. The album is based around dream narratives: "I wrote music with different versions of dreams ending up perhaps not the way you want to. Like a winding path that can go in any direction," explains Bennich.

Special guest vocalist Helen Salim joins for one track. The album is based around dream narratives: "I wrote music with different versions of dreams ending up perhaps not the way you want to. Like a winding path that can go in any direction," explains Bennich.

For much of this album, his 16th in 26 years, Hiatt reunites with his best band, the Goners, and takes a giant leap back to his still-hungry days as a jag-edged, Costello-esque rocker while hewing to the soulful, blues-based songwriting he perfected on 1987's Bring the Family. The withering pub rock of 1979's Slug Line--as well as a nod to fallen hero Dale Earnhardt--seeps into the title track, while the roaring guitar, courtesy of the brilliant Sonny Landreth, and tight rhymes of "All the Lilacs in Ohio" suggest the streetwise edge of 1983's Riding with the King. But it's with ballads such as "Something Broken" and "Come Home to You" that Hiatt's musicianship, songwriting, and deeply soulful vocals truly convince and offer the most moving moments on this, his most memorable album in many years.

Matt Berry releases a unique collaboration with esteemed Library Music label KPM. KPM is renowned for providing the musical bedrock for so many classics of British TV and international cinema, using the best British composers such as Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw, John Cameron and Alan Moorhouse to do so. ‘Simplicity’ follows in the footsteps of these giants and is a worthy successor to them. Alongside his formidable acting career, Matt Berry has released a series of acclaimed albums on the Acid Jazz label. With this EP release we kick off MEUK, a new Rotterdam based electronic music collective founded by Denn Punk and Eva Bohnen. 'Meuk' means 'junk' or 'mess'. We both base our music on old school techno and for us techno should be a bit messy. Whether it's junk or not, that's up to you to decide.

The MEUK EP starts with the vocal oriented track 'Lekkere Track' by Denn Punk and really sets the tone of the EP. You definitely hear Denn's old school groovy signature sound: indispensable in every (hard)groovy set. Op z'n Rotterdams: deze track is gewoon lekker!

Especially for this release, Eva Bohnen presents her debut track 'Rauwe Groef' (Raw Groove). With a sharp synth sequence that is central to a hard groove. And of course all finished with a raw edge.

The track 'Achterstevoren' refers to Denn Punk's 'reversed' signature sound. The ear candy of this track really is the pad that gradually appears and floats and bounces harmoniously through the groove.

The last but certainly not the least track on the EP: 'Binnenstebuiten'. Translated as 'inside out'. A real old school track with the recognizable reversed kicks and grooves of Denn Punk. Halfway through the track turns inside out with a thick filter, hence the title. A perfect last track for this (hard)groovy MEUK EP.

On his debut 45, Junior Scaife shows us he's a vocal heavyweight whose prowess on the mic is tantamount to the pen. Backed by house band The Penrose Scholars and co-written by producer Anthony Masino, 'When My Heart Beats' is a bouncy stepper with feel-good vibes and groove in equal measure, serving up a Brenton Wood-esque blast of sunshine and soul. A national musical treasure" The Guardian // Steven Adams, formerly of The Broken Family Band releases new album DROPS on Fika Recordings in November 2023. Since calling time on TBFB at the height of their success, Adams has released half a dozen albums under various names (Singing Adams, Steven James Adams, Steven Adams & The French Drops), his witty, incisive lyrics and melodic sensibilities taking in DIY indie rock, folky introspection, and off-kilter pop hooks. Originally from South Wales, Adams now lives in East London. “Every record I’ve made has been in a hurry of some sort” says Adams of his new album, “and with this one I took my time”. DROPS is the first album to be credited to him as a solo artist since 2016’s Old Magick, his first new music since 2020, and his noisiest record to date. Armed with a new batch of material, he began by upping sticks to the Welsh countryside to experiment with drummer Daniel Fordham and bassist David Stewart - both formerly of psych oddballs The Drink. The trio then took the songs to Big Jelly, a converted chapel on the south coast, with co-producer Simon Trought (Comet Gain, Johnny Flynn, The Wave Pictures) to lay down the basic tracks for DROPS. Eschewing a full band set up (“I wanted to concentrate on one thing at a time”), recording sessions in East London followed with Laurie Earle (Absentee) on guitar and Michael Wood (Hayman Kupa Band, Michaelmas) on keyboards. Adams then took the recordings home and to the French countryside, to work alone. “I finally got my head around home recording in 2020, while things were a bit quiet. Once I worked out how to record things I realised I didn’t have to think about time. I could let the songs evolve and change once we had the basic tracks down. After a while I started to think of them as paintings; trying something one morning, painting over it in the afternoon and attempting something completely different… it was about enjoying the process, making some bangers, playing around... and giving Simon the producer a mess to sort out when it came to mixing the record". Whenever Tom from Fika Recordings checked in to see how the album was progressing Adams would reply, “it’s taking ages but it’ll sound like it was recorded in an afternoon”. The result is a dynamic and spirited collection of songs, with Adams's love of 90/00s US underground rock (Pavement's Bob Nastanovich is a fan) to the fore. DROPS is a sonically compelling piece of work: from bleak/exultant opener Out to Sea and the motorik Living in the Local Void to the weirdly funereal Fascists (where Adams imagines the “little skip in our steps” that we’ll have upon outliving some baddies), and Day Trip's psychedelia in miniature. There are also moments of tenderness: the avalanche of empathy on closing track Cheap Wine Sad Face, and I Tried to Keep it Light’s “worse things could happen… I don’t know how, but give me time”. Adams says: “I'm preoccupied by the passing of time and the way it affects how we feel. Australia post-punk duo The Native Cats - bassist Julian Teakle and singer and electronics operator Chloe Alison Escott (who released solo album Stars Under Contract via Chapter in 2020). Spiritual forebears to the current wave of speak-singing post-punk a la Dry Cleaning and Sleaford Mods, The Native Cats have grown a sizable cult following from their home in Tasmania (Australia's remote and chilly island state) since the late 2000s. Their minimal bass and drums rumble is offset by Chloe's lyrics which twist, confound and linger. The band have toured the US and played Memphis' legendary Goner Fest, been written up by the likes of Stereogum, NPR and Brooklyn Vegan, and performed at the Sydney Opera House. In 2020, they were riding a growing wave of recognition and admiration following their best run of records to date, culminating in killer double A-side single Two Creation Myths. But the pandemic and Australia's extended lockdowns brought with them a period of intense loneliness, isolation and despair. Chloe's confidence as a lyricist, singer and performer was at an all-time low. Even in those low times, the apparition of Native Cats LP #5 just kept on calling out. Julian never stopped recording instrumental demos and emailing them to Chloe. Chloe never stopped writing, and even began revisiting lyrics that had previously felt too raw or revealing to include.. Small moments of inspiration grew into more substantial ones. The band committed to weekly songwriting sessions, started to accept invitations to perform again, and had crowds fall instantly in love with their new songs. Recorded with producer Ben von Fürstenberg, The Way On is the Way Off takes a meticulous, painterly approach to the band's heavy, scorching songs. Every element is chosen for its thematic resonance and emotional impact. KOU is the new project by Apolline Schöser (half of Nina Harker) & Thomas Coquelet.

Apolline & Thomas have been performing since 2022 under the KOU guise with 24 electronic harmoniums. Producing dense layers of tones & overtones. On their debut album KOU steers in another direction. The harmonium appears occasionally, but more prominent are delicate guitar pluckings, distant vocal effects, synths, flutes, piano strokes, a touch of musical magic and Apolline’s jazz not jazz vocals.

As soon as the needle drops it’s clear we are jump-cutting straight to the other side of the mirror. Cats purr, a woman sings as if asleep, drum machines stutter and warp and Alvin Lucier is not 'sitting in a room that is not different to the one you are not in now’. If you’re already confused, join the club. But, it’s the good kind of confused, a bewildering experience akin to the first time hearing the Faust Tapes or watching Inland Empire. Wait though, as pigeons coo and the tape machine clunk-clicks a gorgeous weirdo version of Roger's and Hart’s Blue Moon emerges to let you know this isn’t just dada splurge, there’s a genius pop sensibility at work here too. Side two takes us further into the murk with mournful detuned brass, stoned Joan La Barbara-esque vocalese and a droning Farfisa hymn, before ending with another too-tempting snatch of DIY pop. Some of the references are recognisable. All kinds of 70s/80s European art prog - think early Battiato, Pierot Lunaire’s Gudrun, Lucia Bosè and Gregorio Paniagua's Io Pomodoro etc etc. There’s a strong whiff of 90s us goof-off surrealism too- Bongwater, Siltbreeze, Royal Trux’s Twin infinitives, the damaged folkier side of Alastair Galbraith, Half-Japanese, early Beck even all feel relevant.

Like an oddball group of friends you might meet by chance and end up weirding-out with for days, the minds behind this deliciously odd music allow you to stay for a while in their strange subcultural world. You might not want to live here forever but a short trip, while it lasts, rewires your brain for the better.

Sigrid Horn, Ina Regen, Ernst Molden, Anna Mabo, Yasmo, Mwita Mataro, Julia Lacherstorfer, SarahBernhardt - sie sind vertreten in diesem gemeinsamen Werk, produziert von Felipe Scolfaro Crema und Sigrid Horn. "Paradies" ist ein Konzeptalbum mit ungewöhnlichem Thema: Eine polarisierende Volksabstimmung in 70ern bewirkte, dass es bis heute kein einziges Kernkraftwerk in Österreich gibt. Das Ergebnis ging sehr knapp aus und so wurden keine Atome gespalten, dafür aber Familien und Freundschaften.

The debut album of soul singer, Maiiah is also the third full-length by Hamburg collective, Angels of Libra, following on from the success of their collaboration with Irish singer, Nathan Johnston.

Maiiah is a singer with roots in the Balkans but residing in Düsseldorf, the city of the legendary Unique Club and the label of the same name. Soul left its mark on her early on, and when she met Hamburg producer, musician and composer Dennis Rux (Hamburg Spinners/Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios) during the pandemic, the two realized they shared a similar musical vision. Their common love of soul music and old rhythm & blues brought them together, and they started recording music together in Hamburg with the Angels of Libra. Lo and behold, their first single together "Obey" got into rotation at tastemaker station Radioeins and confirmed them as a winning team.



Following in the footsteps of many a classic soul tune, second single, "No No No (I'm So Broke)" is a social critique and commentary. In it Maiiah literally wears her heart on her sleeve, as she sings about the back- breaking job she was working at the time and the poor earnings as a hotel service employee.



But naturally life has more to offer than just work and so a large part of the songs on this record revolve around love. Maiiah gives her own spin to the classic "I'm A Good Woman", which the spirited singer has performed live many times. The story goes that the late DJ and Unique Records label owner Henry Storch sent Maiiah the original song by Barbara Lynn to comfort her after a heavy heartbreak. The song thus holds a very important place in Maiiah's heart, and it was released as the third advance single, recorded during her tour with Nathan Johnston at Bekegg Studios in Rastede, Lower Saxony.



With Dennis Rux at her side and the powerful arrangements of the Angels of Libra, Maiiah has found the right partners for her personal debut. On "Kava" & "Plenty of Life", Hamburg's jack-of-all-trades Carsten Meyer aka Erobique is featured as a guest on the keyboards, so here the rhythm section of the Hamburg Spinners comes together again. The love for old soul, rhythm & blues and the analog sound of the sixties is also fully expressed on this album. The longings and deep feelings in Maiiah's lyrics are carefully picked up musically, whether as a classic R&B song as in "Please Come Home" or in boogaloo party mode as in the Croatian-sung "Kava", the fourth single. "Plenty of Life" is a song for self-cheering and a call to open up to the beautiful sides of life despite all adversity. In "I wanna go", on the other hand, Maiiah longs for her Croatian homeland. The crowning finale of the album is the intense "Infinity" about life's phases and the recurring ups and downs as the essence of human existence.



The ingredients of Maiiah and the Angels of Libra's recipe are authentic lyrics, to the point arrangements, tight horns, rousing background vocals and the spirit of the golden age of soul music, as it was shaped by labels like Motown and Stax. Recorded in part with original equipment from the 50s. Producer Dennis Rux says, "We wanted to create a record that people would go dance to at the Komet" (a neighborhood club on St. Pauli in Hamburg, the band's second home). The joint album combines the Hamburg soul of the Angels of Libra with the passion of Maiiah, who can fully live out her temperament on the mic.

Orange vinyl. Time is supposed to mellow us, but for Petrol Girls it has distilled their feminist politics into an ever more potent cocktail. Fitting, given that their logo from day one has been a flaming molotov. Since their formation in 2012, the band has been known for playing fast-paced, chaotic punk that takes aim at everything from sexual violence to immigration policy, but over the last few years their sound has evolved in a more nuanced direction. Their 2016 debut album Talk of Violence was a blast of pure political rage, while 2019's Cut & Stitch saw vocalist Ren Aldridge exploring familiar themes from a more personal perspective. Now their latest offering, Baby - to be released through the London-based independent label Hassle on June 24th - sees the band turn another new corner. This time, by embracing irreverence. "We wanted this album to be less epic and less preachy from day one," Aldridge says. "I hate sanctimoniousness. Like, really fucking hate it. But I also know that I have been mega preachy, and felt very pressured to be sanctimonious, because we've always played in a very political punk scene. I lost my fun side, and I really needed to come back to that." Recorded with Pete Miles at Middle Farm Studios in Devon, Baby embraces a more playful sound. A focus on groove and repetition - driven by guitarist Joe York, drummer Zock and bassist Robin Gatt - give the songs a Talking Heads feel, while retaining the band's formative post-punk energy. The lyrics, too, are a departure for Aldridge. While she continues to address heavy topics like burn out, femicide and police violence, the lyrics balance directed anger with tongue-in-cheek humour where appropriate. Angular opener "Preachers" puts the self-aggrandising nature of call-out culture on blast with lyrics like "feeling dead important in the comments", while lead single "Baby, I Had An Abortion" is intentionally puerile from title to finish. On the flip side, tracks like "Violent By Design" see the band kicking back against carceral feminism in the wake of a news cycle dominated by Black Lives Matter protests and PC Wayne Cousins' brutal murder of Sarah Everard. Similarly, "Fight For Our Lives" - a harsh, borderline industrial song - was lyrically co-written by activist and vocalist Janey Starling. Aldridge deliberately wrote the verses to sound like a manifesto, and the lyrics reference Starling's Dignity For Dead Women Campaign with Level Up, which successfully called for the UK media to change the way it reports on fatal incidents of domestic violence. Baby saw Petrol Girls working in new ways - scrapping entire songs rather than trying to force things that didn't feel right, recording to tape for the first time, and deliberately leaving in imperfections. It was a more carefree process, which Aldridge - having gone through a particularly bad period of mental ill-health at the start of 2021 - welcomed. "Our whole thing for a long time, and a big focus of the last record, was making political struggle sustainable," Aldridge says. "And I think having a good time where possible, and things being not totally serious all the time, is really essential."

"The Twits" wurde von der Band im Februar 2023 innerhalb von nur acht Wochen in einem provisorischen Heimstudio auf Mallorca aufgenommen und von Marta Salogni abgemischt. Nach einem Kinderbuch von Roald Dahl benannt, zeigt sich das Songwriting von bar italia in rauen, mystischen, ungebürsteten und gelegentlich düsteren Arrangements. Songs wie "my little tony" mit seinen harten Riffs und dem kathartischen Sound ist ein klassischer Indie-Banger für die große Bühne. In anderen Momenten wagt sich die Band auf bisher unbekanntes Terrain, auf dem sie eine hypnotische Dissonanz ihrer Stimmen schaffen. "Jelsy" zum Beispiel spielt sich wie ein Gespräch zwischen Freunden über wehmütigen, summenden Country-Blues ab, wobei die Stimmen abwechselnd tröstlich, ironisch und hoffnungslos sehnsüchtig sind. Der geschmeidige, langsam brennende Walzer "Twist" besticht durch seine nackte Lyrik und scheint jedes Bandmitglied zu einem individuellen Bekenntnis einzuladen. Während "Tracey Denim" von seinen kompakten 2-3-minütigen Songs lebte, besticht "The Twits" durch seine eher offenen und mitunter uferlosen Kompositionen. "glory-hunter" nimmt z.b. spielerische Wendungen, bevor es an einem völlig anderen Ort endet, als es begonnen hat. Das abschließende "bibs" ist ein seltener Fall, in dem alle drei im Einklang zu hören sind. Eine Prozession geradezu geisterhafter Akkorde mit einer zerreißenden Rückkopplung bildet den Abschluss des Albums. Das im Mai veröffentlichte Matador-Debüt "Tracey Denim" von bar italia wurde schnell zum Gesprächsthema der weltweiten Indieszene. Considered one of the most innovative groups on the Colombian musical circuit in 1973, Columna de Fuego forged its sound by creatively and organically mixing elements of heavy rock with rhythms rooted in the music of the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of the country. Columna de Fuego, the first Colombian rock band to tour outside South America, was the supporting act for Leonor González —La Negra Grande de Colombia— for months and featured members of Los Young Beats, Los Speakers and Siglo Cero. Their only LP, recorded in Spain and released in Colombia only in 1974, was a turning point in the history of Colombian rock, an album full of funk, soul, cumbia and currulao that maintains a fast pace from start to finish. After unsuccessful attempts to establish themselves in Europe, the group parted ways; some members returned to Colombia and others stayed in Europe as part of La Banda Salsa, a vibrant and little mentioned chapter in the history of Latin rock. Roberto Fiorilli, the stand-out drummer of Colombian rock, returned to his native Italy. Over the following five decades, the myth of Columna de Fuego, that wonderful Bogota rock band that dared to experiment with the music of the Colombian coastline, grew. The curiosity of musicians interested in the traditional music and folklore of the coasts since the late 80's, the consequent mixture of different musical genres (modern and roots) at the end of the 20th century and the almost impossible desire of collectors to find a copy of the album or one of the band’s singles, gave it the status it should always have had as a pioneer, milestone and beacon. Tin Fingers takes on a darker, melancholic direction on their second full album. Felix Machtelinckx' weeping vocals, preaching, searching, and trying to understand God, form the leitmotif. With rich melodies, haunting piano sounds, improvisations, first takes and no overdubs, Tin Fingers is searching for pureness and keeping things human and simple. The band is playing together intuitively, without a computer, without ego, just for the sake of music

The creation of the album was very fluent and spontaneous. Singer Felix wrote the backbones of the songs and the lyrics on acoustic guitar and piano. He wanted to have songs ready in order to be able to record and write arrangements fast. With an eye for details but without overthinking, keeping the ideas fresh. 'I wanted to stay in love with the music.' he explains. 'It needed to go fast, very fast, in just two weeks the entire album was recorded and ready to be mixed.'

In the studio, the band especially focused on picking the right mood rather than playing the right notes.

They were fed up with working on a computer for many hours, overthinking production choices, and adding instruments on top of each other as if they were Lego blocks. This time they decided to work in a more traditional way, going for first takes, jams, and essentially working with analog gear. No computers, no screens, no distractions. Only four humans in a studio trying to make a sound together by keeping things spontaneous and raw. They said goodbye to perfection and worked towards an unfinished product, a snapshot.

Tin Fingers also didn't want to sound like any other artist on this record. They decided not to listen to music during the sessions, and to never express ideas by referencing other bands. Just before the studio session, however, bass player Simen Wouters broke the rules and shared Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's, I See Darkness. Its dark and searching sound ended up inspiring the band unmistakably.

Once the recording was finished, the band decided to keep the volatile rhythm going and asked reputable NYC-based mixer and producer D. James Goodwin to finish the job. Goodwin, known for his analog folk productions with a real American punchy sound but a tender touch, proved the right man for the job. He opened up the songs and kept things poetic, minimal but impressive.

Born in Roma in 1959, Guiseppe “Peps” Cotumaccio arrived in South Africa when he was two years old. He was the mastermind behind the band “Sweet Reaction”, singing and playing keyboards.

In the early 80’s, the group used to back various artists including one of the South African top singer “Neville Nash”. Both artists were on the same record label: Music Team. Throughout his lengthy career, Peps has collaborated with Johnny Clegg, Ronnie Joyce, Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, P.J. Powers, Mark Alex, Neville Nash, and Mara Louw just to name a few.

The lead singer of the band, Dion Williamson, started performing in Johannesburg’s nightclubs and got quickly very successful, always in demand! People loved his gravel and sensual voice as he used to sing some of Joe Cocker’s popular songs. Unfortunately, during the Apartheid, the South African Government were not allowing black and white audiences, and the band split.

On this BIG5 Boogie#2, Enoch Ndlela produced 2 Modern Soul killer tracks.
Recorded in 1981, "Take it easy", where the music is evidently influenced by Willie Hutch (Easy does it - 1978) offers Dion a way to fully explain himself doing his own version of the tune. And what an explosive result!

On the same side of this 12”, our 2 Frenchies in Cape Town aka Simbad & Fred Spider enjoyed delivering us a fat broken beat version of the track, while the very “En Vogue” Aroop Roy from London turned it into a funky house summer hit.
Side B starts with a superb composition from the band: “African Sunrise” where Dion Williamson is on top, this tune is a bomb!
To finish this E.P, the well-known Kid Fonque from Johannesburg, who freshly moved to London working for the glorious house record label Defected, couldn’t wait to produce a super groove deep house refix. The result is a second essential dancefloor release from Voom Voom Records!

In The Right Place is the sixth, and biggest-selling album of the late iconic music legend, six-time Grammy-winner, and Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. John. Dr. John, the stage name of Malcolm John Rebennack, Jr., was one of the most original, distinctive and influential voices to ever come out of New Orleans. His career spanned six decades as a songwriter, composer, producer and performer. His unique blend of music carried his hometown of New Orleans at its heart.

His colorful musical career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played guitar on some of the greatest records to come out of the Crescent City, including recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex, Frankie Ford and Allen Toussaint. Dr. John headed west in the 1960s, where he continued to be in demand as a session musician, playing keyboards on records by Sonny and Cher, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin and The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main St. During that time he launched his solo career, developing the charismatic persona of Dr. John The Nite Tripper. A legend was born with his breakthrough 1968 album Gris-Gris, which introduced to the world his unique blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots.

1973's In The Right Place contained the chart hits "Right Place Wrong Time" and "Such A Night." In addition to his six Grammy wins (1989, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008 and 2013), he has received six other Grammy nominations over the years. In 2007 he was nominated for "Sippiana Hericane," his Hurricane Katrina benefit disc.

AllMusic says that with In The Right Place, Dr. John struck mainstream paydirt, especially with his hit single "Right Place Wrong Time" bounding up the charts and initiating listeners into New Orleans-style rock (the song hit No. 9 in 1973 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart).

Also including Allen Toussaint's "Life," and a funky little number entitled "Traveling Mood," which shows off the good doctor's fine piano styling, and with able help from the Meters as backup group, In the Right Place is still a fine collection to own.

Smith direct from the original tape, and two sides of premium 180-gram vinyl (pressed by the best — Quality Record Pressings and RTI), our 45 RPM edition of In The Right Place emphasizes Dr. John's gravelly bayou drawl and sonically creates the hoodoo-infused stage persona he brought to his performances.

After Hurricane Katrina Dr. John immediately stepped up to the plate with generous relief fund-raising concerts and recordings. In 2007 he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and Blues Hall of Fame. In 2008 he released City That Care Forgot, winning him a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album.

His numerous other awards included the Louie Award from the Louis Armstrong House Museum and the Jazz Foundation of America's Hank Jones Award, presented in October 2016 at "A Great Night in Harlem" which pleged $1 million to help musicians recovering from the 2016 Louisiana flood.

Dessner’s former client Sharon Van Etten called This Is The Kit her “favorite new artist” in Pitchfork.  The backing band gathered for ‘Bashed Out’ combines the talents of This Is The Kit’s touring members alongside session players drawn from the Brooklyn music scene: Bryce Dessner, Thomas Bartlett (Doveman, The Gloaming), Matt Barrick (The Walkmen) and Ben Lanz (Beirut, The National) made key contributions.  Since this LP’s initial release Kate made significant contributions to The National’s 2019 album/film ‘I Am Easy To Find’ and became a touring member on subsequent live dates. Auf welchem Album ist das Lied? Eine Frage, die der renommierten anglo-amerikanischen Jazz-Sängerin immer wieder gestellt wird. Da ihre Setlists ausnahmslos eine Mischung aus altem und neuem Repertoire enthalten, lautet die Antwort auch oft, dass der angefragte Song auf keinem Album bislang ist.
Dieses Album ist daher eine Sammlung dieser Lieder. Es ist eine Antwort an all die Leute, die im Laufe der Jahre etwas enttäuscht gesagt haben: "Sie haben 'If You Go Away' nicht aufgenommen?" und so weiter. Dies ist auch das erste Mal, dass Stacey Kent einen Song zweimal für ein Album aufgenommen hat. 'If You Go Away' kam 2018 in das Live-Repertoire, als ihr Mann Jim Tomlinson ein Orchester-Arrangement für ein Konzert in Paris schrieb. Von Zeit zu Zeit sang sie auch Jacques Brels Original 'Ne Me Quitte Pas'. Aber egal in welcher Sprache auch immer, jemand würde fragen, warum sie es nicht in genau der anderen gesungen hat. Einige Sänger haben darauf reagiert, indem sie beide Sprachen in dieselbe Version interpoliert haben. Da beide Liedtexte für sich genommen wunderschön sind und es gleichermaßen verdienen, aufgenommen zu werden, wurde der Song dann halt in zwei Versionen ins Tracklisting aufgenommen. Somit ist 'Summer Me, Winter Me' auch eine repräsentative Auswahl der Songs, die einige dieser Fan-Wünsche erfüllen soll.

"Alles ist nur Übergang": So heißt das neue Album Max Riegers. Man kann dies als künstlerisches Credo betrachten, als Selbstbeschreibung, als ästhetisches Programm. Bei Max Rieger war es schon immer so; es ist immer schon alles im Übergang gewesen: im Werden, im Fluss. Seit über einem Jahrzehnt gehört er zu den prägendsten Künstlern im deutschen Pop, wandlungs- und erfindungsreich wie kaum einer sonst. Mit seiner Gruppe Die Nerven hat er dem elektrisch verstärkten Gitarrenrock hierzulande eine neue Gestalt und neue Schärfe geschenkt. Fünf Alben haben Die Nerven seit 2012 herausgebracht, zuletzt 2022 ihr schwarzes Album, finstere, harte, zugleich nihilistische und ironische Musik, getragen von großer Weisheit und dem Wissen um die Weisheit des Primitiven. Max Rieger ist auch ein großer Klangschöpfer, er ist jemand, der Musik und Ideen zu veredeln versteht, der sich ebenso inspirieren lässt wie er inspiriert. Für eine ganze Generation junger Künstlerinnen und Künstler ist er zu einem wichtigen, prägenden Partner und Mentor geworden, als Produzent und als unterstützender Songwriter. Er hat für Casper 2022 das Album "Alles war schön und nichts tat weh" produziert, Mia Morgan, Stella Sommer, Ilgen-Nur, Jungstötter und Drangsal gearbeitet und zuletzt mit den legendären Noise-Pionieren Swans. Wer die wahre Größe Max Riegers ermessen will, der - freilich - muss seine Soloalben anhören, die er unter dem Namen All diese Gewalt veröffentlicht. "Kein Punkt wird mehr fixiert" hieß das Solo-Debüt 2014, seither sind zwei weitere Alben erschienen, das majestätisch-weiche "Welt in Klammern" 2016 und das kühle "Andere" von 2020. "Alles ist nur Übergang" ist nun sein viertes Werk als All diese Gewalt, es führt die großen Linien des Rieger"schen Schaffens fort und hebt seine Kunst doch auf eine neue Ebene: So organisch, so schwebend hat seine Musik noch nie geklungen, so scheinbar anstrengungslos dahingespielt und zugleich intensiv, mit einem unwahrscheinlichen Gespür für Dramaturgien, für das rechte Maß zwischen dem Treibenlassen der Klänge und dem plötzlich alles ändernden Break.

Mit „Es war einmal…“ beginnen märchenhafte Geschichten, die von fantastischen Welten und von mutigen Helden erzählen. Es sind Geschichten, die uns seit Jahrtausenden begleiten und deren Ursprünge in der Fantasie des Menschen liegen. Passend zu diesem Leitmotiv hat Oliver Satyr für das FAUN-Album „Märchen & Mythen“ einen wunderschönen einführenden Prolog ersonnen, der von keinem Geringeren als Otto Mellies gesprochen wurde, also dem Schauspieler, der seine Stimme schon dem Zauberer Saruman im Film „Herr der Ringe“ verlieh.

FAUN hat sich mit „Märchen & Mythen“ von der Welt der heimischen Märchen inspirieren lassen, sie weben uns ein musikalisches Kunstwerk in dem - wie meist in Märchen - die Traumwelt und Realität immer wieder spielend miteinander verbunden sind. Wer sich mit dem Pagan-Folk - der von FAUN erfunden wurde - auseinandersetzt, erkennt sofort das Leitmotiv der mythischen Naturverbundenheit, das sich zu jeder Zeit in der Musik und den Texten der Gruppe wiederfindet.

Dass dies gerade in Zeiten der exzessiven und ökonomisch motivierten Ausbeutung und Zerstörung der Natur und der resultierenden Klimakrise eine durchaus politische Dimension besitzt, sei hier nur am Rande erwähnt. Nun endlich kommt das Album auf coloured Vinyl raus. Auf einer hochwertigen 180g LP und einem 4 seitigen Booklet in Vinyl-Größe - limitiert auf 1.000 Units

Mommy’s Little Monster, veröffentlicht 1983, ist das erste Album von Social Distortion. Es wurde in einer einzigen Session aufgenommen und enthält die Single ”Another State of Mind”. All Music bezeichnete das Album als ”Inbegriff des kalifornischen Vorstadt-Punks der frühen 80er Jahre und als Inspiration für viele spätere Kalifornier, darunter The Offspring und Rancid” und sagte, dass es ”die Band mit viel Attitüde und Aggression ausstattet, während sie sich durch neun Tracks voller harter, schneller, mit Powerchords gefüllter Tracks mit knurrigen Anti-Establishment-Texten und - Themen kämpft”.

Zu dem 40-jährigen Jubiläum wird es das Album neu gemastert von den analogen Originalbändern und auf 180-Gramm-Vinyl gepresst geben. Enthalten sein wird das Album die neun Originalsongs, darunter den Titeltrack ”Mommy’s Little Monster” und die Single ”Another State of Mind”.

Die Psychedelic Porn Crumpets sind mit ihrem sechsten Studioalbum zurück. Das australische Psych-Rock-Fünfergespann hat seit der Veröffentlichung von "Night Gnomes" im Jahr 2022 an "Fronzoli" gearbeitet - ein Titel, der so viel bedeutet wie "etwas Unnötiges, das als Dekoration hinzugefügt wurde". Dilemma Us From Evil" ist die neueste Singleauskopplung aus dem Album und ein Paradebeispiel für Psychedelic Porn Crumpets' verblüffende Mischung aus schweren, melodischen Gitarren, harmonischen Texten und exzentrischem Songwriting. Es folgt auf die Singles "Nootmare (K-I-L-L-I-N-G) Meow!" und "(I'm a Kadaver) Alakazam", die Anfang des Jahres veröffentlicht wurden. Das Album strotzt nur so vor dem überdrehten, glitzernden Sound der Band aus Perth, der Einflüsse von klassischen Rockgrößen wie Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin und den Beatles sowie experimentellen elektronischen Jazz enthält. Diese Rockeinflüsse sind auf "Fronzoli" deutlich zu hören, mit thrashigen Grunge-Tracks wie "Sierra Nevada" und dem frenetischen "Hot! Heat! Wow! Hot!", in denen die hyperaktiven Gitarren und die schrägen Texte der Band zur Geltung kommen. Die Band, die als Freunde begann, bevor sie sich zusammenfand, ist stolz auf ihre fröhliche und ungeschliffene Unordnung, wenn es um Songwriting und Produktion geht. "Diese Platte ist mein bisheriges Lieblingswerk", sagt Songwriter und Frontmann Jack McEwan, "jede Nuance wurde diskutiert, verleumdet und sorgfältig in die richtige Position gebracht, es wird sporadisch außerhalb der Linien gemalt, so dass diese extravertierten Schnörkel übrig bleiben." Jede LP-Farbe ist auf nur 250 Exemplare limitiert. Die CD ist ein aufklappbares Digipack, 500 Stück gepresst.

Wenn man wie keine andere Band klingt, ist es immer eine Herausforderung, eine Musikrichtung für Presse, Bandinfo und Veranstalter*innen zu definieren. Die Dorks sind zu räudig für Metal, zu melodisch für Hardcore, zu wenig 90er für Crossover, zu anspruchsvoll für Deutschpunk. Unermüdliche Kreativität, Reisebereitschaft und ein Albumrelease - inmitten der von allgegenwärtiger gesellschaftlicher Resignation gezeichneten letzten Jahre - brachten den DORKS im Jahr 2021 mit ihrem Album "Die Maschine von Morgen" genereübergreifende Aufmerksamkeit, sowie hervorragende Rezensionen in renommierten Musikmagazinen ("Meilenstein" - OX Fanzine, Rock Hard, Album der Woche bei Coretex, Süddeutsche Zeitung, u.v.m.). 'Ingis Fatuus' ist das Debütalbum der norwegischen Prog-Legenden White Willow, ursprünglich 1995 veröffentlicht. Es eroberte die Artrock-Szene im Sturm mit Rezensionen sogar US-amerikanischer und europäischer Musikmagazine. 5000 Exemplare waren schnell verkauft und bald saß die Band im Flugzeug nach Kalifornien, um 1995 beim Los Angeles Progfest zusammen mit Acts wie Spock's Beard, Ars Nova und Landberk aufzutreten. Die Songs auf dem Album reichen von fast reinem pastoralen Folk-Rock ('Snowfall', 'Till He Arrivals') bis zu reinem Prog-Rock ('John Dee's Lament, 'Cryptomenysis'). Die Band betrachtete sich damals nicht als Prog-Rock-Band, sondern eher als Folk-Rock-Band, die sich symphonischen Arrangements bediente. Dieses Reissue wurde von Bandmitglied Jacob Holm-Lupo sorgfältig remastert und ist erstmalig auf Vinyl erhältlich. Es ist die erste in einer Reihe von sechs Wiederveröffentlichungen von White Willow auf Karisma Records.

Einst im November 2021 als zweite Hälfte der Doppel-CD Lichterland erschienen, erhält nun das gefeierte Unheilig-Weihnachtsalbum Weihnachtslichter den Release-Rahmen, den es verdient, und erscheint nun endlich – erstmals - als eigenständige 2LP, gepresst auf hochwertigem Vinyl in sehenswerter kristallklarer Farbe und dazu mit imposantem Artwork. Das Cover orientiert sich zwar vorderseitig grob an dem von Lichterland, aber vermag es in seiner neuen Ausführung eine ganz eigene, winterliche Stimmung zu erzeugen.

Die neue Weihnachtslichter 2LP darf in keiner Sammlung eines wahren Unheilig-Fans fehlen, die farbige Vinyl-Edition ist schließlich streng limitiert auf 2000 Stück. Um so mehr Grund sich beim Vorbestellen zu beeilen, um dieses besondere Release nicht zu verpassen.

Up wurde 1998 veröffentlicht und ist das elfte Studioalbum von R.E.M.

Semisonic - eine der meist unterschätzten Alternative-Rock-Bands der Jahrtausendwende meldet sich nach über 20 Jahren mit einem bemerkenswerten neuen Album zurück.
