Simon Popp is back on Squama with his fourth album Trio.
At its heart, Trio is a work about collaboration, playfulness and unification. It is music as a means of coming together, a sonic equivalent to the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, in which broken ceramics are repaired with a visible golden lacquer. Rather than hiding the breaks, Kintsugi embraces them, making them part of the story, a form of delicate transformation. Popp and his collaborators Flurin Mück and Sebastian Wolfgruber take a similar approach: three distinct drummers, three different temperaments, three personal styles. Fused together into a single expressive instrument.
The album is a celebration of timbre, texture, and touch, its sound palette drawn from across continents and traditions. "Mighty Vertebrate" is the International Anthem debut from Anna Butterss (2024). The Adelaide-born bassist/composer has been a first call for LA tour and studio work since relocating there in 2014 - racking up credits with notables across the experimental, jazz, and pop worlds alike - but their most notable contributions to the burgeoning LA scene have been as a member of both Jeff Parker"s ETA IVtet and rising proto-trance supergroup SML, who Pitchfork says "represents the thrilling next phase of a vibrant L.A. community."

Addictive and super-catchy classic Studio One instrumental cut led by the great saxophonist Lester Sterling, a founding member of The Skatalites. Sterling recorded extensively for Clement Dodd and this single was released in 1969 with The Paragon"s killer rocksteady "My Satisfaction" on the flip. The song "Afrikaan Beat" was originally recorded by the German orchestra leader Bert Kaempfert and was based on South African Kwela style of music. "Afrikaan Beat" featured on Soul Jazz Records" Studio One Scorcher.

Brian Fallon reunites with producer Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Green Day) for Not Bad for New Jersey, his first collection of original solo songs since 2020's Local Honey. Fallon is best known as the frontman of The Gaslight Anthem (The '59 Sound, Handwritten). Featuring Brandon Flowers (The Killers), Phil Collen (Def Leppard), Lori McKenna, Donovan Woods, and guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Robert Plant). Out September 10, 2026. Mongolian folk metal band The HU return with a new album on Better Noise Music called Hun, pushing the limits of rock and taking the world along with them. Building on the international breakthroughs of The Gereg and Rumble of Thunder, the band sharpens its fusion of traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat singing with modern active rock production. Essex punk duo The Meffs return with their second album BUSINESS, due this September via Frontiers Label Group, following their 2024 release What a Life. Fünfundfünfzig Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung ihrer ersten Aufnahme feiern Katia und Marielle Labèque
eine außergewöhnliche künstlerische Laufbahn mit „55“, einer wegweisenden 2LP, die neue Aufnahmen und
sorgfältig ausgewählte Archivschätze aus mehr als einem halben Jahrhundert vereint. Das Debütalbum der
Labèque-Schwestern, das 1970 unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Olivier Messiaen erschien, markierte
den Beginn einer der einzigartigsten Karrieren in der zeitgenössischen Musik.
Dieses Album bietet ein intimes Porträt zweier Künstlerinnen, die über Jahrzehnte hinweg konsequent die
Grenzen zwischen Klassik, zeitgenössischer Musik, Jazz, Minimalismus und populären Traditionen überschritten haben.
„55“ legt dabei einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf Komponistinnen, deren Werke einen wichtigen Platz im

Wer wissen möchte, weshalb Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915-1973) bis heute als die “Godmother of Rock and
Roll” und “Original Soul Sister” gefeiert wird, muss nur ihr bahnbrechendes Album “Gospel Train” aus dem
Jahr 1956 hören. Wie keine andere verstand sie es, die Intensität des Gospel mit bluesigen Phrasierungen
und rhythmischem Drive zu verbinden. Dadurch schuf sie die musikalischen Grundlagen, die den frühen
Rock ’n’ Roll und die spätere Popmusik prägen sollten. Bei den Aufnahmen für “Gospel Train” ließ sich
die E-Gitarristin mit der kraftvollen Stimme von einer Band mit Jazzmusikern wie dem Bassisten George
Duvivier und dem Schlagzeuger Panama Francis sowie dem Gospel-Vokalquartett The Harmonizing Four

Avec cet ensemble a géométrie variable qui possède une dizaine d’albums a son actif, et de nombreux concerts en France et a l’étranger, je m’exprime en tant que compositeur mais aussi
arrangeur.
En 2008, nous avions crée un programme au festival Jazz a la Villette, avec cinq musiciens, en privilégiant la musique électronique et les synthétiseurs dans la musique de De Roubaix, pionnier du home studio et des Synthés. En 2015, nous avons enregistré ce programme.
Pour le cinquantenaire du compositeur qui aura lieu en 2025, j’aimerais élargir le programme autour de la musique orchestrale également très présente dans son oeuvre, ce qui permettra d’accentuer l’aspect intemporel de sa musique, tout en la confrontant aux œuvres de quelques autres compositeurs, pour démontrer l’influence qu’il a pu avoir y compris auprès de légendes telles que Morricone, Michel Legrand, ou John Barry.

Revenir sur les compositions de François de Roubaix permettra de mettre en avant la richesse des thèmes, des harmonies, et des timbres qui émanent de ses oeuvres, qui ont traversé les décennies en mettant en valeur leur portée intergénérationnelle auprès de tous les publics.

Over ten years later it became an essential catalogue for DJ's who are into forward-thinking broken and dub heavy techno.
