Thule Records camp is hitting it hard these days. This time it's a collaboration between two pioneers within the Icelandic techno scene. On the A-side, we have Static, a hypnotic groove with indistinguishable voices and shimmering dub chords, and Útkall, minimalistic dub techno mantra. On the flipside we have the heavily-rhythmic Sedna, where the drums and bass compliment each other in such a way that it might cause involuntary muscle movements, and at last Timelaps, a delicate minimalistic voyage. Ohm is best known for his releases on Force Inc with Exos. Octal Industries, a veteran who has already gained a respectable reputation within the IDM community under his Ruxpin pseudonym, returns to his origins with this collaboration. Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneer in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland's most renowned electronic musicians.

Danish producer Uffe Christensen returns to Tartelet Records with his second LP 'No!', a deeply personal LP to follow 2015's unanimously unfuckwithable debut 'Radio Days'. Every bit as abundant as his first, it's a record that scales polyrhythmic percussion, improvised jazz, & billowing ballads. This, that and so much more, it's a triumph of one man's instinctive ear -- and should be consumed in one sitting.
A year after his dynamic debut 'Radio Days', Uffe resurfaces on Tartelet with a record cut in the same spirit as the last: a borderless approach to music-making with organic instrumentation at its heart. Genres collide peaceably --off-beat soul with jazz, hip-hop with the heft of house-- and are melded smooth with an earthy warmth. Like nearly all at camp Tartelet, he's a producer who is more interested in cutting loose than playing to the tune of dominant modes in dance music. In that, his album's title is instructive: a 'no' to the tyranny of trends; to slavish Facebook likes; to creative compromise. Beyond the babble of fleeting fads, Uffe enjoys his place on the perimeter -- an outlier searching critically for something closer to a timeless groove. Uffe has all of the intuition of the self-taught instrumentalist, following his ear into unexpected rhythmic and tonal combinations. It's what gives the album its urgent appeal: the sound of tentative experiments being made live; of sequences mprovised amongst friends. Far from a churn of simple floor fodder, the album is a journey through a consummate narrative. Shy guitar interlude 'Fridge Magnet Radio Theme' feels its way out of the warbling jazz breakdown in 'Lesser Known Values'. 'The Fact', an unexpected vocal ballad, follows the broken beat of 'Solo, So Loud'. With the record's pleading closer 'From Me', it's a story with a start, middle, and end. A long player as long players should be.
As Tartelet continue their run of consistently solid EPs & 12"s, it's still these album moments that remain the best gateways into the label's distinctive sound. Alongside Max Graef's debut 'Rivers of the Red Planet' and Glenn Astro's 'Throwback', Uffe's 'No' is a mirror to the Tartelet spirit and sits amongst the imprint's best. Its a bold and brave producer who takes on the task of remixing a stone-cold classic cut from the annuals of House history, but thats just what Joris Voorn, KiNK, Phil Weeks and Ambivalent have done with their fresh versions of DJ Dozia's Ovum debut 'Pop Culture'. Originally released back in 1998 'Pop Culture' rapidly gained cult status on the underground. Created by fellow Philly resident Dozia Blakey, the raw and sparse original, at over ten minutes, was made for the dark, strobe-lit, sweat-on-walls rooms where it found favour. Backed by the equally popular Size-9 remix, 'Pop Culture' was, and still is, a record that never leaves the box for many. Now, with a fresh set of remixes, its set for a glorious return. The original twelve inch is still one of the most sought after twelve inches on discogs. So what did persuade our set of remixers to take on this challenge Well, lets ask them... Joris Voorn - It was a defining moment finding Dj Dozia's Pop Culture in my local record store in 1998. The simplicity of the record was evident, but the few elements in combination with the classic Peech Boys acapella sounded like more than the sum of it's parts. It was the blueprint of forward thinking house music, a sound that would inspire me to make tracks like 'Sweep The Floor' 10 years later. I remember asking Josh in 2007 if I could remix Pop Culture, but the remix offer came in much later. It turned out be an almost impossible task remixing a track so simple and powerful, it simply couldnt be improved. So I tried stepping away from the original sound and create something that is more like a nod to the original. Phil Weeks - This is without a doubt one of my favourite all-time 'classic' records. Since day one. So I was very happy to be asked to come on board with a remix. That's also the reason why I stayed pretty close to the OG version.' Ambivalent - Pop Culture is one of my all-time favorite records, not just on Ovum, but in the history of dance music.

In 2013 Drumcell debut his first full length album 'Sleep Complex' on CLR. Around the time of the album release Drumcell invited three of his close label mates Luis Flores and Raíz Truncate from Droid and Lucy from Stroboscopic Artefacts to create their own interpretations of his music.
