P-Vine Japan does great work once more here by bringing back into print some hugely sought-after sounds from the blues and r&b world. The first release in their new series revives Larry Davis' 1969 Kent Records single, which was originally written by Sherwood Fleming. The A-side, 'For 5 Long Years' delivers a gritty mid-tempo funk-blues groove while the B-side, 'I've Been Hurt So Many Times' (a classic subject for a blues tune) channels Willie Cobbs' signature sound. These will be familiar to anyone who has danced at a Northern Soul event and cannot be slept on.

Rustam is a Ukrainian DJ and producer with a preference for groovy basslines in dreamy spaces. ‘Happy Comby’ serves up a touch of acid on a rough-edged groove, while Jordan Lakofski’s ‘The Heat’ on the A2 is dripping in nostalgia, driven by an infectious 8-bit synth lead and a rolling bassline.

Glasidum set out to deliver the perfect warmup number, and we think he did it on the B1. Groovy, trippy and deep. And Dutch maestros MASI drop a perfect closer with some dreamy, thoughtful house music. Enjoy…

Crafted exclusively with analogue machines, the LP seamlessly melds influences from House, Acid, Techno, Trance, and IDM, for a masterfully curated journey.

‘True Mirrors’ leads the EP laying down airy atmospherics, bright stab sequences, bouncy bass groove and crisp rhythm section. ‘Royal Objects’ follows and leans into deeper realms via an amalgamation of processed spoken word vocals, ethereal pad textures, heavily swung percussion and dynamic evolution.

‘’Ghost Life’ kicks off the flip side next, fuelled by resonant synth licks, sweeping filtered chords, saturated drums and dubbed out vocal lines. ‘Over and Over’ then concludes the release, a nod towards the early 2000’s era of microhouse courtesy of raw, reduced drums, heavy sub bass tones, oscillating organic percussion and warped synth tones.

Today Not Yesterday Records’ fourth vinyl release comes from label founder Jerome T. Music Is The Answer is an exploration of house tracks best described as a personal journey through house music, meant to feel essential, deep, raw, and energetic. The album’s artwork perfectly captures its essence and was created by Jade Jansman.

The record features four unreleased tracks by Robert Calvin, a producer already recognized at the time by the iconic Turbo label, founded by Tiga. Produced between 2001 and 2004, these tracks had been forgotten on old, dusty hard drives, but their sound is definitely relevant today.

Robert unmistakably draws inspiration from Italo-Disco and EBM, finding his own personal way to carry forward a Spanish post-punk tradition with that melancholic Italo-Disco touch that the electroclash years knew how to interpret so well.

The birthday candles are barely out, and Melodize is already back with their 18th release! Label boss Beartrax is in the driver’s seat, with remixes from Massimiliano Pagliara and Eliott Litrowski.

Beartrax stays true to his sound, bringing Opaque and Sanctity—two deep, rolling cuts packed with lush violin melodies and a proper melancholic vibe.

Massimiliano Pagliara flips Opaque into a punchy, bassy rework, infusing it with dreamy textures and an atmospheric depth. Meanwhile, Eliott Litrowski takes Sanctity into a darker realm, fusing indie basslines, electro grooves, and hypnotic new wave vibes for a trippy, heady experience.

Between the shows of their international tour "Transatlantic Tour" and the studio sessions for their third album, the duo Bon Entendeur continues their sonic journey in search of new musical concepts, like the Decade Mixtape released last January: a one-hour dive into the music and historical facts that marked the 70s.

Their label BE Records is also an illustration of this. Each year, the duo unearths up-and-coming nuggets and brings them together in an annual compilation of 12 unreleased tracks. The first two releases were a great success: more than 2,000 vinyls sold and nearly 6 million listens on the platforms.

The third compilation will bring together all of Bon Entendeur's favourites, with a focus on many new French pop releases.

The Bricks boss Anna Wall sets the tone with a masterclass in acid-drenched intensity, while Pily & Lis Sarroca keep the energy rolling with a serious bass-heavy groover. On the B-side, J Air’s ‘Pak01’ brings some delightful tension, and Curity takes us home with some late-night hypnotics.

Experimental dub techno duo Dialog present their first officially released live recording. Captured at the intimate French festival Pe:rsona, from the team behind the Positive Education events, the recording captures Samuel van Dijk (VC-118A) and Rasmus Hedlund exploring mechanical rhythmic impulses and organic tones and textures—malleable metallic and elemental forms passing through chasms of processing and shrouded in womb-like melancholic hum.

Across two sides of immersive, head-nodding sonics, Dialog take the principles of dub techno into forward-thinking territory with a distinctly tactile approach to sound design—a mind-melting listen for casual chillers and committed voyagers alike.

Sunny Crypt’s ninth release - and first ever excursion into the realms of previously unreleased music - is “Ufficio Misteri”, the debut album of Milan-based musical collective UFOBAR, an eight piece digital folk orchestra born from the creative synergy of a group of friends with diverse artistic backgrounds. Inspired by evocative ambient electronica, stoner rock songwriting and industrial soundscapes, the project draws on a wide array of influences, crafting a dynamic and multifaceted sonic landscape. The band’s mission is to achieve and share an emotional state they call “total solar”: a synaesthetic experience capable of forging a profound connection between artist and listener.

The label Mars Frequency Records run by the spanish electro producer Robert Cosmic backs with their 2nd release, another V.A with 4 high quality electro cuts.

Antoni Maiovvi is an artist like few others. “Knights of New Haven” summarises his unique ability and unparalleled range. This return to the Bordello reflects the influence of the West Coast Sound of the Netherlands as well as that machine music of his adopted home of the U.S. “Later Not Lately” bends bars above a throbbing kick, hi-hats ruffling the clean arcs of string. Echoes of Chicago and Detroit penetrate the EP. Melting melodies fold and oscillate under the crashing cymbals of “Slack Blabbath”, staggered synthlines jolted by tight percussion patterns. A brother-in-arms opens the flip, Danny Wolfers drafted in under his Legowelt moniker to turn his magic to “Later Not Lately”. Undulating undertones are sliced by serrated snares before a sordid TB303 is unsheathed, Wolfers’ soulful and squalid retelling of the original. “The Madness in the Method” closes. Fizzing static blurs drum patterns, a taut note piercing the dense bass fog. Teetering between the profound and the profane, Maiovvi pivots his horror disco trademark sound with driving house drums and devil-may-care grandeur. An EP of epic proportions.

Before Zero Records present the Akae Beka Vocal and Version Series. This represents a turning point in the presence of Vaughn Benjamin, the voice of Akae Beka and Midnite’s presence in the sound system world, merging the vocal and version sound system culture with the deeply spiritual music and word sound of Akae Beka and Tippy I Grade.

Two of the deepest thinkers in reggae music, Vaughn Benjamin and Chronixx, trade reflections on their collaboration, ‘Black Carbon.’ Originally released on the 2021 album ‘Polarities,’ the song is available for the first time as a vinyl single, backed by its dub version. Adorned with the swirling flute of Sheldon Bernard (Beres Hammond, Harmony House) and David Pransky’s brittle, Kora-like mandolin, the twin reggae intellects, with their uniquely delicate voices, introspect on how ‘all ah we forward from the same carbon.’ The song’s message juxtaposes the unity that binds us with a critique of the prevailing narratives and structures that weaken this bond. It underscores the universal truth that we all originate from the same elemental blackness—a truth mirrored throughout humanity and the entire spectrum of creation. Yet, it pointedly highlights how this shared essence is often unrecognised or undervalued in the social and political realms, especially for nations and diasporas connected by the original human hue. The A-side vocal mix is followed by Tippy I’s lavish, questing dub, bringing the instrumentation to the fore. Produced by Vaughn and Zion I Kings.

Each 7” vinyl sleeve has the lyrics transcribed and printed on the back. This series represents more than a collection of music; it is a multifaceted, intellectual and spiritual revelation encapsulated in melody, tone and beat. The never before released dub versions complement each vocal mix with grace and innovation, creating the perfect settings for reflection and integration of the lyrics.

Two lyrical and spiritual forces meet, as Akae Beka and Ivorian veteran Tiken Jah Fakoly awaken the profound realisation that all is inherently blessed, encouraging us to accept life as it unfolds. Produced by Zion I Kings, Everything Bless is a gentle yet powerful reminder to embrace the present moment, cherish the divine connection with our spiritual kin, and nurture inner peace and contentment. Vaughn Benjamin meditates on the need for both determination and trust, while the ancient voiced Tiken sings in Bambara, over Mamadou Sidiki Diabate’s cascading Kora, reassuring that Jah will guide. The accompanying dub version pares down drums and vocals, maintaining the same sense of joy. Taken from 2021’s album Polarities, Everything Bless is released as a seven inch vinyl single for the first time on via Before Zero Records.

This series honours both the vocal and version culture of the reggae sound system and the profound lyricism of Vaughn Benjamin. We have consistently received two requests in relation to releasing the LPs: "Can we have dub versions?" and "Where can we read the lyrics?" Our response is the 'Akae Beka - vocal, version and word-sound collection.' Before Zero Records worked with Tippy I Grade to mix a series of dub mixes from a carefully curated selection of his extensive works with Vaughn Benjamin. The vocal and corresponding dub mixes were then cut to wax by Lewis Hopkin of Star Delta and wrapped in a collage made of Ras Marcus's artworks, which he crafted for various LP covers of Vaughn's works throughout the years with the lyrics transcribed and printed on the rear of each sleeve.

It was a true opportunity for Patrick Jean-Marie and his band to showcase their talents, recorded under professional conditions, resulting in a sound of exceptional quality. The meticulous attention to orchestration is evident throughout, revealing a solidly crafted masterpiece.

Following the bold experiments with Atika and a solo album in 1983, “Women” marks a new chapter in Patrick Jean-Marie’s career. The album showcases a more structured approach that allows Kat-Tet to create a magical space for organized solos and climax. The dialogue between Patrick Jean-Marie’s piano and Luther François’s alto saxophone is constantly surprising and some powerful bridges by Patrick Jean-Marie are unforgettable.

A true classic in its genre, “Women” by Kat-Tet LP was an “hard-to-find” treasure in the vinyl world.

In October 1987, four months after the release of their critically acclaimed Sister LP, Sonic Youth showcased their latest work in a blistering set at Cabaret Metro, Chicago. The concert was introduced by Big Black's Steve Albini (who at the time was banned from the venue) and subsequently released as a semi-official bootleg under the title Hold That Tiger on writer/provocateur Byron Coley's impishly Geffen-baiting label Goofin' (years later the band would use this nom de guerre for their own imprint).

Hold That Tiger's sterling reputation among the Sonic Youth faithful is well deserved. In fact, it isn't a stretch to suggest that the album is to the first handful of SY releases what It's Alive is to the first three Ramones LPs – a feral and liberatory public snapshot of a band's blossoming imperial phase. Indeed, HTT is the sound of a group at the peak of their powers, presenting new songs alongside a handful of older ones with the kind of wild, cathartic enthusiasm common to rock 'n' roll's most revered live albums.

Taking nothing away from Sister – inarguably one of indie rock's first true masterpieces – it is reasonable that many fans prefer the live versions heard on Hold That Tiger to their studio counterparts. On HTT, Sonic Youth is a spiky, pummeling and confident force, alternately mammoth and meditative. Sister and its predecessor EVOL notably added an airy, dreamlike reverie to the band's turbulent doom-lurch, a stylistic evolution that seems to crystallize on HTT. Throughout, Kim Gordon's sinewy, sumptuous bass and Steve Shelley's propulsive, tom-heavy percussion provide the bedrock groove for Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo's ferocious barrages of noise-guitar crunch.

By 1987, the band was confidently articulating their dual lexicon of punk-noir dissonance and supernal, psychedelic sonic calligraphy – bending their jagged, streetwise gnarl into balloon animals of dazzling and beautiful songs. This collision of splendor and chaos would become a hallmark of the group's singular alchemy as well as provide a blueprint for the post-SST American underground they would help invent and ultimately nurture.

Hold That Tiger's encore – four songs by the band's beloved Ramones, which Thurston would later astutely compare to "the perfect pudding after a hearty meal" – serves as a reminder that, like any true punks, Sonic Youth never could resist a good, rousing anthem to send the kids home with their ears ringing, their hearts hot-wired.

Spencer FM kicks off his new label Madrugada with a diverse five-track EP of psychedelic late-night house. Kicking things off, "Chicken Billy's Last Stand" rides in with dusty film reel textures and gritty drum programming, while "Good God" pays homage to the upper Midwest’s prodigal son with a spaced out deep cut that’s tailor made for those closing moments. "Alpenglow" wraps a spiraling earworm around ethereal pads and a slamming bassline, with "Miss E" conjuring a world where 90s R&B was birthed in a South London basement. Capping things off, Massimiliano Pagliara's remix of "Alpenglow" adds a touch of acid-tinged Italo to round out the record.
