Third Coast Kings - Give Me Your Love/tonic Stride

This highly anticipated 45 introduces new RK band The Third Coast Kings, a seven element deep funk and soul outfit from the home of many a great artist; Detriot/Ann Arbour, Michigan. In the tradition of the best 60s and 70s funk groups, the Kings detonate with an explosive sonic force that is guaranteed to make you move those hips and let that backbone slip! The buzz surrounding this 45 has been steadily increasing ever since its release was announced, with DJs such as Ian Wright, DJ Andy Smith and Adrian Gibson booking their copy much in advance. The gritty sound of The Kings is the raw concoction of horn-driven hooks, devastating rhythm and an overall tightness that has made them a favorite in the Motor City area and beyond. Both "Give Me Your Love" on the A side and "Tonic Stride" on the flip throw down some heavy grooves intended to rock the livest dancefloors and restore deep funk and soul to its rightful spot on the musical map. The Third Coast Kings are a full-fledged funk force!

V.a. - Jukebox Jam 2

Jukebox Jam 2

12inchJMANLP062
Jazzman
14.11.2013

The original Jukebox Jam Blues & Rhythm Revue compilation album was released in September 2011, a collection which brought together the dynamic and varied R&B sounds of Liam Large's London based club night and reissue label. With an action-packed, all-killer set, it quickly became an instant classic, a comp of vintage sounds which truly stood out in an ever-saturated market.

Two years on, and we are proud to unleash the second volume of Jukebox Jam, another collection of 23 obscure masterpieces from mid-century America. Perhaps even more ambitious than Vol 1, the follow-up broadens the scope of investigation by digging both deeper back into the 1940s - with a couple of jazzy blues numbers, and further into the 1960s - with gritty rock and roll and early Detroit soul both featuring prominently. In between these sounds, there's of course a healthy fill of dirty '50s blues, jumping R&B and swinging popcorn, but it's safe to say that on this set, the surprises come a little more frequently. We're very confident that Jukebox Jam Vol. 2 is another essential classic in waiting.

The CD version of the release comes with a 16 page colour booklet that includes extensive liner notes with detailed info and artist pics, and the super deluxe double LP gatefold with US-style pasteback sleeve contains the same!

Check The Guns - Tape Edit 006

The Guns boys have been firing gems at us recently but this release is possibly their strongest to date.

TapeEdit 006 is a 4 track 12' which is all killer no filler.

First up is David 'Fathead' Newman's 1978 Jazz-funk / Disco killer 'Keep the dream alive' which is a drum and flute driven funk monster, lovingly extended and amended - watch out for the midway drum break, you won't be disappointed. On the inside is the relentless bass twisting, rhythm guitar focused 'Ups and downs' with a vocal line and brass section that will leave you wanting more.

On the flip is the Brit funk inspired 'Pass the music on' which sees the smooth sax and bass of Morrissey Mullen given a massive guns workout.
Last but in no way least is Eastbound Expressways 'Never let go' rework with it's beefed up kick and envelope filtered guitar it will fit nicely into any dance floor set and brings this CTG release to a solid finish.

Roy Ayers - Love Will Bring Us Back Together / Rock Your Roll

Two superb Roy Ayers promo-only Polydor 12' releases reissued here on one slab of loud-pressed vinyl. First up is the legendary vibes player's massive anthem 'Love Will Bring Us Back Together'. First released in 1979, this is Roy Ayers at his undiluted and unsurpassable best - a wildly infectious summery jazz-funk smash, this never fails to rock floors anywhere and is a must-have classic in any collection. Turn over for the lesser known but equally stunning 'Rock Your Roll', a big play for Theo Parrish amongst other discerning DJs. A highly in-demand promo-only 12' cut from 1980, this was mysteriously overlooked at the time despite being a monstrously good funking floor-filler with dirty fat squelching bass and sweet vocals riding a tight groove. Essential purchase.

The Fontanelles - Horns Of Freedom

We're delighted to announce the debut album fromThe Fontanelles. Originally formed to be the onstage band for the London run ofFela! The Musical, the band's natural chemistry was such that they instinctively continued performing together when the show ended. They took the energy of the stage show and started working on original material, addingreggae, ethio-jazzandskainfluences to theafrobeatsource.

Their debut album takes in everything that defines The Fontanelles' distinct sound. There'suptempo Afrobeatthumpers (Gaia's Revenge, the seismic Afrocat and recent single Criminality),mid-tempo dubgroovers (Pinprick & Project 31) and the band's unique take onlo-slung funk(The Wave).

Various - Santa's Funk & Soul Christmas Party Vol.2

To be honest, Christmas music on earthly radio seems to be the worst in the Milky Way. Just imagine an alien picking up our radio waves on his journey through the galaxy - what would he think of our conception of Christmas music Having such an impression of our cultural heritage, would he land on planet earth at all Being extraordinarily tolerant and broad-minded, Paul did - and luckily, I got to meet him.
Paul admits - unlike other extraterrestrials - that the human race might be able to survive on its own. This makes me appreciate him more than other aliens. And when it comes to exceptional musical taste, Paul and I have even more in common. In the past centuries, Paul has celebrated innumerable Christmas seasons across the universe. Of all things, this year it is planet earth that has something seasonal to offer - something the galaxy has never seen before. Yuletide nerd Jan Kohlmeyer has put together an amazing collection of hip-shaking Christmas songs. Despite Paul's advanced age and wealth of experience, he has never encountered such an impressive selection. Not in the entire universe.

Angelo Tinsley - Get Down With Me

'Get Down With Me' by Angelo Tinsley is the fourth release in the series of boogie and modern soul vinyl re-issues on Légère Recordings.
Standing out as a unique piece of groovy disco funk 'Get Down With Me' Angelo Tinsley, originally from Cleveland/ Ohio is still proud of his work today: - I learned the keyboard by being passionate about a variety of sounds and wanting to play dance music. I also learned to record by trial and error. The hourly studio fee was paid out of my own pocket, listened to what I came up with, and the result got better over time. When I worked on - Get Down With Me' there were no other individuals associated with the recording. I used a Casio toy drum machine and a Roland SH-101 synthesizer that my dad bought. He gave me 300 Dollars in one Dollar bills he earned from his street hustling numbers racket and I bought the synthesizer from a childhood friend I knew from piano school. The entire song was finished in two hours, adding some extra keyboards laying around the studio.'

'Get Down With Me' originally appeared on the local Starstream Records from Cleveland/Ohio in 1982 as part of a compilation album called 'WDMT - Sounds Of Our Streets'. 'The song was more attitude for me than music. I needed to express my 'party right now' attitude ...!' Angelo Tinsley adds. And that is exactly the attitude this tune carries to the present day. So let' s get your party started and get down with Angelo Tinsley.

Various - Feeling Nice Vol.2

It's like this - Tramp Records know vintage funk and soul. They know what you want to hear beforeyouknow you want to hear it. Hell, they even know what you want to hear before you even knew it existed. But in a world where the rediscovery of golden era '60s and 70s funk and soul has been ongoing for the best part of a quarter of a century and the careers of contemporary bands reviving the sound has lasted longer than the careers of most of the original artists, how can this still be possible What's left that hasn't already been repackaged, re-released, compiled and covered to within an inch of its life

Itsu Uno - B-boy Rave For The Ageing Hipster - Part 2

'Part 2' - Heavy B-Boy Funk breaks rule the roost, peppered with the dopest samples and a healthy wedge of classic old skool rave synths and that low down booming bass to get the dancefloor shaking. 'The Elephant' is just that.. a big boned hiphop instrumental edit that ploughs along heading straight for the core funk and bloody minded headnodding of the old skool hiphop .. think Cypress Hill/Pete Rock, fuzzed up and punctuated with parpy sax and horn stabs. As the title suggests, this is Heavy !

Various - Americana 2 (compiled By Zafsmusic)

Taking its lead from the Americana Music Association, Wikipedia describes Americana as "contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. While acoustic instruments are often present and vital, Americana also often uses a full electric band." Like its well-received predecessor, the music on this second volume of Americana, showcases a slightly different take on this phenomenon. Contemporary Well, most of these recordings, sourced from the golden musical decades of the 70s and 80s, nonetheless fit very snugly with an interest in all things folk-funk that, while a marked tendency amongst the kind of people who are usually more interested in black music styles since at least the 90s rediscovery of Terry Callier, is very much of the now as we get deeper into the twenty-first century. Roots music Well, most of this stuff has a commercial, professional sheen, redolent less of the back porch and wide open plains than the urban pub and the college campus. The musical syncretism found here represents an easy strain of American popular music that was less lock-up-your-daughters than wow, I think Mom and Pop will like this too. As such, it represents a progressive, adult rapprochement with the civil rights movement, a moment in American cultural life before Reaganomics had fully achieved the backwards march that was a catalyst for the rise of hip-hop and the racial and class-based fracturing of the progressive post-war consensus. Life feels good, if a touch complacent, in these grooves. Its often the reception and not the production that crystallizes a musical style, and the relatively disparate sounds to be found on this album find their home together thanks to the particular aesthetic of renowned crate-digger/archivists Zaf Chowdhry and Mark Taylor. Both steeped in black music, these guys found they shared a penchant for its blue-eyed variant. Blue-eyed soul has of course always been a part of Britains black music scenes, and the discourse has hopefully moved on from the days when earnest record collectors would debate whether only blacks could sing the blues. The quest for authenticity that characterized those discussions really comes unstuck with these kinds of recordings: its precisely their inauthenticity as R&B that makes them authentic. The kind of melismatic, churchy, enraptured vocals characteristic of classic R&B are absent here, in their stead is something cooler and more definitively secular. If they speak to us now, its because were nostalgic for the kind of fit between music and identity that has become so lost with the advent of new recording technologies and brutal commercial realities. Bland, but expressive of new identities, new communities and the searching, reflective self that characterized the singer-songwriter role in the second-half of the twentieth-century, this album deepens our understanding of the influence of black music on American culture, and indeed of American culture more generally on the UKs black music scenes, whilst spreading the love a little wider than the small circles of cognoscenti who have previously cherished these records. This survey of a sound touches bases of all of those aforementioned UK and world-wide black-music scenes too. If the two-step scene has yet to pick up on the likes of Jaye P. Morgan, its been sleeping. Elsewhere, lightly jazzy instrumental funk (Luc Cousineau) jostles the deeper, heavier sounds of Lucy Stone. Southern soul stalwarts Rhodes, Chalmers and Rhodes go disco, TRs Hot Ice fit with the punk-funk/disco-not-disco template, and Hal Bradbury and Steve Eaton can pass muster with the more discerning of collectors as proper soul records. All in all, its another in-depth look at a neglected area of American musical history with a direct line to the eclectic sensibilities of twenty-first century black music collectors.

Deluxe - The Deluxe Family Show

Polishing Peanuts DELUXE's first EP (November 2011) opened the door & created a buzz about the band's future projects. The 3 first tracks that came out in spring, started to tease the audience's interest, especially Daniel the EP's title track (out on May 13th) & the crazy video who came along with it. The long awaited LP drops on September 16th 2013, and goes by the sweet name of The DELUXE Family show.

This first album reflects the maturity acquired by the band during the years, full of tracks as diverse & breathtaking as the fellows mustaches. The jazzy touch, trademark of the band's first discographic adventures can be found on tracks Extra Mile & Bleed On, Indisposed (feat. Cyph4) & Pretty Flaws are melancholic & dreamy ballads, whereas Family Show & Baby (feat ASM) are hip hop bangers. The LP travels through different styles, it also features several mc's (Tumi on Too Me, Taiwan Mc on Blocked) and surprises the ears by easily skipping from dub step fuelled rock & roll vibes, to sweet & sour ballads, and even funky disco sounds. With eclecticism, assumed diversity and an urge to tell a story, DELUXE invites his listeners to immerse in this first album's universe, grooving, moving, bouncing, a real musical melting pot with various horizons.

Extend the summer and party like it's 1977, courtesy of Los Fulanos, Fundacion Tony Manero, Sabo and Oneman.

After releasing their first full-length for Lovemonk in 2012 with "Si Esto Se Acaba, Que Siga El Boogaloo", Barcelona bosses of boogaloo Los Fulanos go back in time to party like it's 1977 on the A-side of this five-track EP. Their friends and fellow Barcelonians Fundacion Tony Manero take non-album track "Fourty Five" to the wonder years of disco, and the boys themselves to the same with stellar "El Que No Esta Se Lo Pierde". On the flip we find another gem that's not on the album, "Inspector Rodriguez", an uplifting instrumental with a Salsoul-Cosmic feel, while master Sabo does his moombah thing with "Sobran Cueros". The final touch comes courtesy of Names You Can Trust's Oneman from Brooklyn, who takes "Kind Of Guy" into house territory.

More info:
Barcelona-based Los Fulanos cut their teeth on the small but very lively Spanish Latin funk and soul scene, where a surprising amount of bands, most of them veteran stage warriors, battle for the attention of a crowd spoilt with weekly gigs by internationally successful local groups like the classic soul-funkers Sweet Vandals, Speak Low or Pepper Pots, or new school mestizo bands like Fundacion Tony Manero and Muchachito Bombo Infierno. Besides playing countless gigs on their own, they're also known for backing Catalan rumba king Peret and Latin soul hero Joe Bataan, both of which they've recorded with as well, on Vampi Soul and Lovemonk.

Paulo Mendonca - Does Anybody Wanna Funk LP 2x12"

The funk king of Sweden is back! After having major success in the 1990s, selling hundreds of thousands of records all over the world and touring with the likes of Tina Turner, Paulo Mendonca returns with 'Does Anybody Wanna Funk'

In the early 1990s Mendonca released three chart-topping albums. Now, his first full length release for eighteen years is easily identifiable by his signature guitar sound and funky grooves, the intense playing and strong melodies topped off with tongue-in-cheek lyrics.

The vinyl version of the album includes two exclusive tracks that are not on the CD version plus a download code for a high resolution 24 bit/96 KHz digital download.
Tracks: BBB / Me and My Friends / Yeah Yeah Yeah / Birds and the Bees / Heaven / Diving In (exclusive to the vinyl version) / 21 Century / On Top / Music is the Power / Honey / Doggystyle / Someone's Lover (exclusive to vinyl version)

Brrd sent me a note, or a musical beacon in a very discreet small corner of the internet a few years ago. I followed it until I found as many tracks of his as I could wrap my head around. 30 tracks later and I have not had enough. Email correspondence and a few phone calls later we decided we needed to release these tunes when the time was right. That time is now and Blueberry Records in many ways has been set up to release his music on Vinyl.

One afternoon we went digging in Brooklyn and I saw a lot more then just beautiful music in Brrd. I'm pretty sure his mind is both ahead and to the side of all of ours, at all times. This first 12" of his, is old music and new but the line can be drawn between both with such ease its remarkable. There is patience and space in Embrace! which will hit you directly in your heart. Dynamics in SCOCJ2 that have been sorely lacking in the post Web 2.0 world. Madness yet a clear musical message in The Anointing, a seamless looping wet pool of warmth in Erase My Future and a goodnight kiss in The Academy pt 1. Imagine a sentence here that just makes no sense at all. And another one that does.

The music speaks for itself really, and its hard to describe the exact feeling I get from it, but maybe that is what we have all been missing for a while now. Take a cue from this producers quiet approach while at the same time clearly post internet influenced music. Whatever that means.

It is with all certainty that this humble narrator emplores you to take time out of your busy day and listen to this music, you will feel rewarded of the highest order.
