Returning to the artist (and label design) from our 4th release a couple of years back, here are two more N'awlins bangers from the undisputed Crescent City King.

This fantastic double header 7" single contains songs from Lou's Epic 1974 album "I'm In Need of Love", regarded by some as the best modern soul album ever made.

Lou was a Detroit artist who established himself in the 60s where he first worked as a writer and producer with Barbara Lewis. In the 70s he was signed as an artist to legendary producer Jerry Ragovoy's Rags label through Epic and these recordings have been internationally regarded by soul fans ever since.

*Factory Benelux presents the first CD edition of In Movimento, the debut mini-album by Italian ambient funk group Surprize, originally released by Factory Benelux in April 1984.
*Formed in Bologna in 1980, Surprize issued two singles in Italy (Nu-Clear Dance and The Secret Lies In Rhythm) before supporting New Order on tour, and joining Factory Benelux in 1983. That same year the sextet travelled to Manchester to record mini-album In Movimento at Revolution Studios, produced by Bernard Sumner of New Order and Donald Johnson of A Certain Ratio. Surprize also played shows with New York hipsters Konk; three members later formed Slava Trudu!!, a conceptual art project produced by Yello.
*This 2013 remaster also includes all six tracks from their early Italian singles. The CD booklet contains archive images and a short essay by guitarist Luca Patini. Cover art by Igort.

Strut complete a duet of rare italian library reissues for Records Store Day with the 1979 concept gem "Desert" by composer / arrangers Antionio Vuolo an Elio Grande, originally released on small Italian label, Cardium.
Using early electronics and setting a drifiting, cosmic tone throughout, the album regularly recalls early Tangerine Dream and features some intricate composition work. Tracks include the gorgeous, haunting slo mo breakbeat "Leaving", mellow-electro-scape "Transvesuvian" and the solid jazz fusion jam "Take Flight". For Record Store Day 2013, Strut reissue the full album, mastered from the original reels for the first time since it's original release. Artwork comes fully restored from the original lithographs.

One of the few surviving links to the pre-Soul/R&B era, Bobby Womack - who was originally discovered as a teenager singing Gospel music by the late Sam Cooke - nowadays enjoys full-blown 'Living Legend' status. Blessed with one of the warmest, most readily-identifiable voices in Soul music, he carved out his reputation with a series of classic albums and singles in the early 70s, re-emerging again in the 80s with his career masterpieces, The Poet and The Poet II, the latter achieving platinum status in Europe alone.

David Hill began his music career in 1994 as a member of the Ballistic Brothers, together with Ashley Beedle and Rocky & Diesel of X-Press 2. In 1994 he co-founded the Nuphonic record label that also produced the
Sony award winning London Xpress radio show for Xfm. He continues to work as a music consultant to several record companies and on personal projects such as Rootikal, the monthly roots reggae night, and has a
number of reissue and compilation projects currently in production. He is also currently overseeing the production of a book and an accompanying touring exhibition that will showcase Bill Bernstein's photographs
of New York nightlife in the late 70s.

Almost impossible to get hold hold of, this 1982 album on the tiny US Chocolate Cholly's label is rammed full of bad-ass boogie, funk and early rap gems and until now has been a fiercely-guarded secret weapon of choice for any DJ lucky enough to own a copy of the ultra-rare vinyl original. A true definition of the maxim 'All killer, no filler', every track on the LP is superb - jam-packed with storming percussion, grooving bass and lilting flute lines (the Pied Piper's pipes of choice) - but stand-outs include latin-tinged funk workout Clap Song, spacey disco-rap cut 'Blow Some Funk This Way', cool groover 'Today Is The Day', and the P-funk rap swagger of 'Drummer Boy'. Venezuelan-born Miguel Toro is an impulse generator: a versatile drummer and percussionist. Rhythm is his motor, but rhythm here does not just denote a motion within a certain beat. Rather it means a fundamental, ever changing pulse, vibration, resonance. Inspired by aesthetic forms as intense and diverse as the jungle of sounds ascending from his royal dust, Miguel Toro succeeds in giving them an extraordinary voice. Imagine a mixed chorus of Tom Waits, Morphine, Talk Talk, Stan Getz, bass sax player Colin Stetson, Canonball Adderley, Mulatu Astatke and a bit of Emil Richards in a Film Noir setting in the desert under the stars: It's the spirit of their collective poetry that soars up.
A sound designer for famous artists and institutions like Olafur Eliasson and the Bauhaus Dessau, a remixer for Tony Allen's Afrobeatmakers, and a collaborator with exceptional artists like epic chanteuse Aerea Negrot and Mambolectro project Mambotur, Miguel Toro accumulates a lot of experience and expertise. In a most sophisticated way, the result of his work marks the birth of a vibrant musical lifeform that exists in Selva Swing time.
