the in-demand duo chaos in the cbd is back on mule musiq with another breath-taking ep.
this time the new zealand natives present different atmospheric spheres. the a-side tune 'comfort zone' is a slow house burner enlarged with bird sounds, flute melodies and super warm bass power. on the opposite, their track 'educate the hear' marries dub atmospheres and four-to-the-floor grooves, without giving up the hotness that dub music got to offer.
their third tune 'pressure' brings in, what is always needed in a club: funk that shakes the booty. and this wrapped in a gentle house track that stays calm while spreading hard to resist dance emo-tions.
a heartfelt produced ep with three kind heavy hitters that come around for good.

Industrious Polish DJ, producer and live performer Szafran is summoned to Thabo's Berlin-based house imprint Home Again, debuting a new alias and sound in his arsenal as he reaches the spaces between house, breakbeat and acid house. The label's third release, Thabo grabs revered Parisian producer Leo Pol for a killer remix.
Previously releasing and performing as Oskar Szafraniec, he broke through under the mentorship of acid house legend A Guy Called Gerald, touring extensively together and developing his live show. His releases have come through notable labels Rawax, Deset and Cyclo, while collaborations with heavyweights Ricardo Villalobos and Pier Bucci brought more discerning ears, and basing himself in Berlin ensured that he'd play across the city's hallowed haunts, including Club der Visionaere, Watergate, Tresor and Salon zur Wilden Renate.
"After eight years in Berlin, I relocated to Croatia's Dalmatian coast last year. There was the enforced break from touring, but I also took a break from producing. I wanted to step back and find new inspirations. I was listening to a lot of Warp Records, feeling hugely inspired by the melodies in Aphex Twin and Squarepusher's '90s releases. My musical direction changed and I wanted to present these influences with my own touch. I feel my music is more emotive through the way I'm contrasting analogue, digital and organic elements and I hope people feel that." - Szafran
Packing punch and propulsion in equal measure is 'It's Just A Feeling', a striking, emotive track that cuts through with the sonic signature of the Roland TB 303. Prolific mastermind Leo Pol picks up the pace, giving the track a rerub with all the bang and bustle to vitalise a dancefloor. Prodigious outing 'You Don't Know' enters the field full of vigor with the breakbeat drum loops and 4 X 4 kick drum sequences giving it a propulsive, rousing pace, while 'Infuse' reaches through and closes the EP with a laidback flex.

Bedouin rework tracks by Ukraine’s DakhaBrakha for the latest release on Human By Default.
DakhaBrakha is a quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine, experimenting with Ukrainian folk music since the group's inception in 2004, combining an array of instruments from around the world with powerful and
uncompromising vocal performances. For the latest release on their ever-impressive Human By Default imprint, label heads Bedouin rework four tracks from DakhaBrakha’s catalogue, fusing the captivating vocals and instrumentation of the quartet with their pitch-perfect production.
Leading the A-side is their reinterpretation of ‘Salgir Boyu’, with shuffling percussion and organic loops providing the backdrop for stunning elements of the original to shine. The rework of ‘A Doshchuk Nakrapaye’ follows, with DakhaBrakha’s vocals fading in and out of the background as Bedouin’s gentle synthesis and evolving drums carry the track. On the flip, ‘Svyryd’ sees hypnotic drones and bright shakers evolve alongside a rolling bassline before closer ‘Yahudky’ seeks more electronic territories, bringing tense strings and unfurling synths together to see out the release.

Escapism is a theme that runs through the very heart of music. We listen to be transported, removing ourselves from our immediate surroundings as our senses relax and the sonic experience washes over us. During times of hardship, such a sensation is naturally magnified. Music gifts us a way out from our challenges, allowing us to choose how we feel in response to the sounds we hear. This theme has been explored meticulously by Audiojack over the past four years, resulting in the release of their second album, Surface Tension, on Crosstown Rebels this April.
The journey sets off with Subterranea, a futuristic breaks-inspired cut that features shimmering female vocals throughout. It feels both euphoric and spacious, taking us to a world far removed from ours. The first collaborative effort comes next in the form of Under Your Skin. Released as the album’s lead single in February, Kevin Knapp’s weighty lyrical offering takes no prisoners, paving the way for the track’s punchy, percussion-heavy backbone.
925 Shift ups the pace, pairing resonant kick-hat combos against a myriad of robot-like synths whilst gentle keys chime softly in the background. Surreal yet familiar in one, it opens smoothly into Easy Rider, a groove-led, minimal-laced dance number that transports us to brighter days with upbeat piano rolls and dream-like chords.
Psychoactive pt. 1 continues the warming theme, delving further into tropical realms. Ethereal pads blend into pulses of acid to form an immersive auditory piece. Psychoactive pt. 2 resumes proceedings, this time featuring Scottish poet William Letford. Beginning with weighty snare patterns, the track’s soundscape soon changes with the advent of William’s delicate vocals. It builds to a poignant crescendo, as changing piano tones marry up next to emotive violin strings to pull deeply on our heartstrings.
After teaming up with label-head Damian Lazarus on Into The Sun last year, established singer-songwriter Jem Cooke collaborates with the pair on Feels Good. The UK-vocalist is no stranger to Crosstown Rebels, having had her and Made By Pete’s So Long remixed by Audiojack in 2018. It’s a real peak-time number that melds prominent clap combos with Jem’s touching lyrical contribution before First Dawn brings things to a tender close. The whispering voice of The Silver Reserve amplifies the track’s profound nature, captivating us in a haze of starry-eyed reflection. We are left to meditate on our own musical voyage, leaving us in a state of quiet contemplation.
Through Surface Tension, Audiojack paints an auditory picture that connects us to the deeper themes of the album. Utilising sensory samples throughout creates a feeling of immersion, helping us to feel a part of the cinematic experience.
UK-duo Audiojack have remained at the forefront of electronic music for over a decade. First rising to prominence on 20:20 Vision in the mid-2000s, the pair have continually developed during their career, launching their own label Gruuv in 2010 before debuting on Crosstown Rebels in 2016 with Turya. This natural evolution helped drive the album’s early formation in 2017, whilst the events of last year inspired the Isolation Tapes series, a selection of releases that delved into the feelings created by lockdown and seclusion. Providing an escape from the anxiety and uncertainty of these environments, the likes of Eli & Fur, Polarbear and Lady Vale appeared on the series as vocalists, bringing together a community of artists and listeners alike.

Emerging Irish talent Lukey makes his debut on Hot Creations next month with the three-track Less Is More. Achieving such a feat so early in his career signals a major milestone for the young artist, setting the tone for a highlight year ahead.
The title track kicks off the release, showcasing the Irishman’s signature style with a minimal, four-four led bassline that features a rolling synth throughout. Already an established presence in his home city of Dublin, it’s no surprise Lukey is beginning to take the wider industry by storm. Imagine there is a seven-headed rythmic beast with a percussionist, drummer, bassist, keyboardist, two horn players, and a DJ up on the stage embracing the musical totality of the world without any folklore kitsch, its subtlety and urban club grooves crossing various divisions in musical genre. Feindrehstar is standing on the stage. The studio recordings of this unique Jena-based band have long been known to capture the live energy of their onstage performances. And now Feindrehstar presents their second album named - Love & Hoppiness - fve years after their brilliant debut - Vulgarian Knights . A lot has happened in the meantime: countless club and festival gigs, an inspiring African tour as well as countless hours spent working in the studio. - Love & Hoppiness matured over three years, a musical puzzle that was composed at different locations - the frst recordings developed in the fall of 2012 with Michel Baumann (Soulphiction, Jackmate) and Nik Reiff in Stuttgart. Further overdubs with a trombone, violoncello, guitar and vocals followed at various home studios and conservatories. That's right, vocals have been brought onboard this otherwise instrumental band. Owing to these vocal tracks with Dave Aju, Ebo Taylor and Tina Keserovic on the microphone, Feindrehstar's sound continues to develop. Jazz, soul and funk vibes shine through on tracks like - Antelope , a track featuring the vocals and guitar of legendary Ghanaian musician Ebo Taylor. however in the end, things got mellow and he had so much fun that he recorded guitar tracks with enthusiasm. It was clear right from the start that everything clicked with Dave Aju - the smooth soul-soaked hiphop of - From Bob To Stevie standing out on the album. Feindrehstar call their music Krautclub, and the reason brought to become clear in - Caje Sukarije : a classic Balkan funk sound taken over by wild synth loops that become fused together in a haze of electro-funk. It is in act a Roma anthem sung by Tina Keserovic. The album akes a chiller, newer direction with - The New Ballad, - Blues For Bagdad as well as the completely acoustic ballad - Love & Hoppiness Int. with cello and clarinet, anchoring the album in a captivating calm.Despite the many new directions, the genre defying yet danceable club sound of Feindrehstar remains. - Love & Hoppiness , - Deep Horse , - Shake That und - Night Rainer Diskodub show once again that after 15 years of rocking dance foors, Feindrehstar's energy hasn't diminished. Feindrehstar will ensure that clubs and festivals will be well supplied with their estatic performance into the future.

Master minimalist Guido Schneider links with Daniel Dreier for two new tunes on the Opulence label that come with tasty remixes from Martin Buttrich and Ostrich.
Opener 'Liquid Summer' is a fluid deep techno cut, with rolling rubbery drums and spooky vocal echoes. Woozy synths lead your mind down a rabbit hole and the result is perfect dancing music. Studio wizard Martin Buttrich remixes it into something more dry and stripped back, with driving drums and off kilter piano notes bringing a freaky feel.
The next original is 'Behind the Curtain', a punchy cut with the sort of warm drums that really make you move. Curious synth details, alien life forms and sci-fi motifs all colour the groove and make it a perfect late night jam, while Ostrich remixes it into seven minutes of restless and kinetic minimal tech with spangled synths and sci-fi details that bring real charm.
Buttrich then offers a Sub Fire Dub of 'Liquid Summer' that's designed for melting minds and latching intoxicated bodies onto the smooth, endless grooves.
Supported by:
John Digweed, Joseph Capriati, Mathias Tanzmann, Dubfire, Damian Lazarus, Reboot, Steve Lawler & more.
LTJ Bukem (Kinetic, Good Looking) - Feeling both mixes of Liquid Summer
Timo Maas - Liquid Summer Orig is cool...nicely trippy....My fav is the Buttrich Rmxs... both super dope
Reboot - superb ep with fantastic remixes.
Joseph Capriati - nice, will try soon
Fabrice Dayan - Voyeur Music - This one will seriously cure a lot of dance floors. ..Pure vibe, big groove, Freaky but not too much: Perfect one

Heavy House Society keeps up the pressure with another hugely effective EP, this time from the esteemed Locklead with a standout remix by Sakro. Dutchman Locklead has been making waves with his rock solid grooves for years. He has released them on the likes of Hot Haus, Pleasure Zone and Unknown to the Unknown and they always mix up raw drum programming with plenty of machine soul.
Opener 030 barrels along on warm, rubbery but punchy kicks with lush pads and trippy little synth effects, as a spoken word vocal layers in extra drive. Farikitek is more stripped back and minimal, with a high tech scene of funk in the kinetic drums and sci-fi sounds that weave in and out of the groove.
Ontitled is then a masterclass in drum programming, with warped bass and closely stacked kicks rumbling along beneath a sleazy vocal. It's street wise, hardcore house music designed to blow up the club.
Last of all is a remix from Sakro, the long time champion of slick minimal house on labels like Pleasure Zone, Half Baked and Vatos Locos. Here he ups the ante, speeds up the drums and makes Ontitled into a perfectly slippery and infectious late night house groove that brims with character.
This is another vital EP from this essential label.

Next up in the Delsin house series is a man who's been perfecting it for years - Düsseldorf's Andy Vaz. The boss of Yore and Background Records, Vaz has released two full lengths and many EPs to date, always exploring a heartfelt brand of electronica that draws on house, techno, Detroit and Chicago in equal measure.
Here he serves up two versions of the same track - 'Don't Lose Your Mind'. Both feature the sweet vocal stylings of Niko Marks and the first, the Soul Version, is all ditty, bouncy chords, floating, summery saxophone lines and warm, effusive synths.
The second House Dub mix is a little sharper - the claps cut through the soupy sonics like a knife and as a result the groove has a more urgent bite. Still stuffed with plenty of human loveliness, though, both tracks are surely set for many spins this summer given their classy feel good vibes.

Sixth release of Moving Pictures Label comes from one of its founders - Täino. Three originals and a remix from Roman Rai bring a balance between dance-floor material and slow-paced rhythms.
"The white-sanded shore was filled with tranquility. Wind was calming too. From time to time she could hear a lonely wave, weakened and exhausted, washed away on the pearl-like sands. It’s been a while since surroundings sounded and felt so peaceful.
Only occasional flakes of ash were landing on the sand, reminding her of the recent events. She could still somehow spot the smoky trail of the Leviathan, dissolving in the distance. Her sight has quickly switched to the only two objects laying in front of her - a leafy branch and a broken compass needle..."

Darone Sassounian births Rocky Hill Records with a moody cornerstone. The hypnotizing two track 12'' sets the tone for a three part series exploring the expressions of man over a trying few years. These tracks are an ode to the dance floors and the dim-lit basements. Nothing but raw music that encompasses a feeling, a moment. This is Rocky Hill.
For a duo whose youthful energy rejuvenated the world of house music at the start of the 2010s, it seems incredible that Disclosure are now into their second decade of musical life. The incredible vigour of those early records, the spark of invention and ever-onward musical thrust, remains with the Disclosure brothers, Howard and Guy Lawrence, to this day. The emphasis throughout DJ-Kicks is on motion. After a brief ambient introduction from Pépe's Life Signs, Disclosure keep the energy high, in a mix that showcases the wonderful malleability of a house beat in the right hands. From sub bass to disco samples, African funk to 303 tweak, all is welcome in Disclosure's house, with the mix allowing individual songs space to breath even as the pace remains harefooted.

At the vanguard of Melbourne's bustling underground music scene you’ll find Surprise Chef. A band very much on the rise, who with two exceptional albums under their belts, are picking up a rapidly swelling fanbase across the world. Working out of the College of Knowledge stable (their home / studio / record label namesake), the band’s take on instrumental cinematic soul and funk has connected with listeners across multiple scenes and genres. Their intoxicatingly laidback sound, which pairs expertly crafted hooks with a seriously funky, watertight rhythm section, has earned them a wide appeal and made their tracks ripe for interpretation.
When floating ideas for potential remixers, two names came to the fore, Masters At Work and Harvey Sutherland. MAW have a long history with Mr Bongo having remixed the Brit-funk classic ‘Dancing In Outer Space’ by Atmosfear for the label in 1997, and releasing the original track, ‘Brazilian Beat’ in 2000. With their studio collaboration now back in full swing, it was the perfect time to inject the MAW magic back into the label. They picked ‘Crayfish Caper’ from the band’s first album ‘All News Is Good News’ as their choice of track to remix. The ’Nuyorican Broken Remix' sees MAW stepping into their Nuyorican Soul guise. A Latin shuffle meets an afro-beat rhythm and some very chunky broken beats, which all underpins an infectious melody constructed around the original track’s bassline. They pair this with horns and synths that add a flourish and reveal new layers as the track develops. It’s a sound that is uniquely Nuyorican Soul and a welcome return for fans of this aspect of their phenomenal output. The 'Masters At Work Remix’ is straight up vintage MAW in House mode. It takes many of the same elements found in the 'Nuyorican Broken Remix' and points things in a House direction. It’s 4/4, but the beats have that Kenny Dope trademark swing. Tough, but oozing soul. Add to that heavy bass, vocal cuts, fierce horns and saxophone, layered synths, and that undeniable MAW bounce.
Rounding off the package is the remix from Harvey Sutherland. Having made international waves since 2013 with his unique take on dance music, Harvey has long been on Mr Bongo’s remix radar, but until now we hadn’t managed to get that ambition over the line. This time around the stars aligned perfectly. Surprise Chef and Harvey Sutherland are both Melbourne residents and they had already been working on projects together. The band set things up and Harvey chose to remix ‘New Ferrari’ from their latest album, ‘Daylight Savings’. His take on the track sees things venturing into dubby-disco territory. A dreamy, cosmic, bass-heavy, sweeping synth-led workout, that retains yet reinterprets the catchy-as-hell hooks from the original track. A roller with serious muscle!
