Following the 10' BURN01 release which dropped in February we're treated to round two with a stellar remix package of the unknown artist to mangle, fire up and hypnotise the Dancefloor in equal measures.

First up Bawrut puts the original through his sonic mangle with the result being a twisted genre-defying slice of niceness. Telfort follows with a deep late night excursion which takes inspiration from the past but ends up sounding like a future classic. Flipping over you have the master of deep, Charles Webster, who flips the original completely and comes up with a sublime rework which is unmistakably his sound, cerebral and dark yet also uplifting and ridiculously warm and enveloping.

Limited 100 vinyl pressure on this one from an undisclosed European producer who has been responsible for more than a few choice cuts over his 25 years of releasing records. Burning Up lights the dance floor by squeezing every last drop of energy out of just a few key elements, a modulating pulsing cross-rhythm bass snakes around driving disco beats with choice vocal samples adding the final bit of ear candy. Minimal, a bit twisted, but hooky as hell.
On the flip we have Becoming Cyclonic, a far deeper excursion where 808 toms dance around a repeating fretless bass melody. An immersive and euphoric melding of drum machines, synths and 12bit jazz-fusion samples, all being put through the sonic mincer and coming out like the proverbial gourmet sausage. Yum!

The second part of various artists samplers featuring numerous gems from the Big Shot archives.

Part 2 is yet another treat and fresh selection of Big Shot sure-shots. Following on from the initial sampler this one is chock full of classics from the label, every house (head) should have one! Mr & Mrs Dale's all-time anthem 'It's You' kicks things off in fine style, this one truly is a classic and those opening bass notes tell you all you need to! Strap yourself in. Also featured is How II House's 'Time To Feel The Rhythm' - some killer piano driven House moves courtesy of the man Ron Allen from way back in '89, showing that Canada was bringing the heat too! Over on the flipside How II House appear again with the 'Acid' mix of 'Unlock The House', another spoken word jammer that does damage. Jillian Mendez appears again, rounding things out, with her 'EZ Mix' of 'Get up' from 1988, another slick piece of Freestyle driven vocal House, perfect minimal production frames Jillian's vocals perfectly and will keep the dancefloor moving! Top notch business all over here!

The brilliant Jori Hulkkonen returns to the French based F Communications to help the label celebrate 10 years in this volatile industry by gracing them with 2 original productions of his own in his A Letter From Cardassia EP. Expect trademark quality house that Jori has become famously known for in his years of producing.

First up on the EP is Fermi Paradox. Retro at its finest, the track features some very nice crisp drum patterns and a bouncy baseline to get very excited about. As the track builds, the baseline forms into a bouncing retro synths, accompanies by fantastically produced drums and percussion. Funky house with a electro and techy edge, it really must be heard to understand the appeal!

On the flip is the Live Version of 7 Strange, 7 Faith. The beats are quirky, and the baselines bouncy in this production that is just as impressive as the tasty a-side. A brilliant groove is created by the low end sounds, and also by the beautiful string patterns that ride the track for the majority of the record. A quirky vocal line doesn’t harm its allure in a track that increases in emotion as it progresses.

We are very pleased to finally present you a new Lorenz Rhode release, for the „Sandpaper EP“ Lorenz Rhode and Jamie Lidell get together again. Their first collab „Any Kind of Pressure“ was followed by Lorenz joining Jamie’s world tour and a remix of „Big Love“ for Warp Records. Jamie performs with an amazing energy, and his
soulful voice is carried by a warm and playful house backing: Minimoog bass, Rhodes piano and just some sparkles of a very old Roland synth that Lorenz had just bought, and which is now broken.
The second new jam „On the Nightshift“ is a fun stabby tune based on a spiraling chord progression. It loops every three-and-a-half bars, just to make life harder for DJs. A real nice warm groover.
The remix for „Sandpaper“ is a true family affair! Sound Support is the all new project by Lars Dales better known as 1/2 of Detroit Swindle and Lorenz himself. They’ve just released their debut EP on Prins Thomas’ “Internasjonal” label in October this year, here they take Jamie’s vocal into a more dramatic and electronic territory touching
electro grounds. To close things out we also added an instrumental on the vinyl and radio mix on the digital version of this new EP. Enjoy as much as we did putting this together for you!

Longstanding Spanish talent Dennis Cruz makes a welcome return to Crosstown Rebels this July with Los Tamales. The single precedes his maiden album, soon-to-be-released on Damian Lazarus’ flagship label this October. It follows on from Ahora Todo Va, the first single released ahead of the LP, that was produced in conjunction with Josh Butler and featured a Gorgon City remix.

The title track sets the tone, manifesting as a salsa-inspired dance cut with plenty of feel-good rhythm. Yazaneth’s signature Spanish vocals dart beneath an iconic piano roll, whilst charming trombone solos march on in the background. Monkey Business completes proceedings, taking the form of a stripped-back, minimal-laced number. With clear dubby influences, Cruz showcases the full breadth of his production capabilities, as low-slung bass elements reside next to punchy kick-hat pairings.

Katia made his debut with La Bohème in Mantua in 1969, performing all around the world, and gets back into the game this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her career. The result is something innovative, a new version of the famous aria ‘L'amour Est Un Oiseau Rebelle’ by Georges Bizet’s Carmen, mixing opera with the electronica, deconstructing its traditional conception and fusing it with downtempo, jazz and house.

The unique trio from Paris, dOP, are back with their eclectic style, speeding the tempo up, and combining the magical elements of the original version with an effective groove, a penetrating bass, and a beautiful strings section.

A nomad of modern times, Nu is back on production after a long time joining forces with Israel Vich, and delivering another modern-day electronic classic. They slow things down into an hypnotic balearic number with trippy percussions, piano and the original guitar parts. Magic!

Shall Not Fade's Season Series imprint hosts Brighton-based DJ and producer Gavinco (Joe Newham) for its first long-play release - Dumont LP; a mellow yet rhythmic collection of jazz house explorations. This is his second LP in a year, and blends organic instrumentation with clubby samples.

Dumont is a polished piece of work, smoothly produced and flowing from song to song imperceptibly like the pianist improvising to entertain punters in an uptown jazz bar. The title track is all swinging, dusty sax scattered with sharp natural keys, although the rough and ready undercurrent suggests something clubbier. It prepares you for the harder "Electronic Feeling" that takes similar jazz stylization but ups the house beat; a bassiness builds into the end of the A-side with "Transit" centering around saxophone loops and elevated percussion that gets hips moving. This is stripped right back for wistful guitar and soulful female vocals in "Sweetness" - "Carry On" acts as a meeting point between this and the danceable rest of the record, summer vibes passing through it as the pulse of house influence builds. Newham plays with Herbie Hancock-style flute trills during "Fusion", vintage funk guitar rising hazily from the rhythm like a mirage. If "Fusion" evokes sun-baked Balearic beaches, "Devouee" is the gentle tide cooling them, fading chord stabs mirroring placid sax.

Digital bonus track "Estrella" carries a layered brass section, building to a euphoric drop - though taking a sound palette from candlelit jazz clubs, this is sunshine music.

Albums often try to evoke a time and place, few manage to do that with such startling effect as the unlikely collaboration, Leave the Bones, between the multi-generational Haitian band Lakou Mizik, and Grammy-winning electronic music artist Joseph Ray. “Haiti'' is a word that conjures up a lot of images, it is a country judged by many, most of whom have never set foot on its shores. But its history is rich, its people proud and defiant, and nowhere is that more evident than in its music. Culture is what defines the country - its drums and Vaksins (traditional horns) are symbols of freedom and pride, liberty and struggle, and represent the escapist joy of dancing. Leave the Bones paints a musical portrait, a fresh glimpse of an oft misrepresented country, that through Vodou chants, chest-pounding Rara dance tunes and contemporary protest songs, conveys the listener to Haiti’s spiritual heart, a place that remains a compelling mystery for foreigners and a source of pride for every Haitian.

After a two year hiatus, DJ Spinna and Kai Alce return to BBE Music with the 5th instalment of their 7” vinyl series ‘Foundations’, this time showcasing Ralphi Rosario &Xaviera Gold’s undisputed club classic: ‘You Used To Hold Me’. With global interest in ‘45s on the rise, ‘Foundations’ aims to fill those frustrating gaps in all our collections by releasing specially crafted edits of classic house tracks on 7” vinyl for the very first time.

The youngest member chosen for Chicago’s ‘Hot Mix 5’ on WBMX back in 1981, Ralphi Rosario is nothing less than House Music royalty, and 1987 smash ‘You Used To Hold Me’ is surely his most enduring hit. Featuring fellow WBMX DJ and vocalist Xaviera Gold, the song has seen several cover versions, remixes and reissues over the years, but has surprisingly never before appeared on ’45. Spinna and Alce have chosen to create special edits of the ’87 ‘Riviera’ version and the ‘(You Used To Beat Me Black and Blue) Bonus Beats’ for this double-sided slice of Dance Music history.

“This is the blueprint to vocal House music and how it should be delivered” says Kai Alce, “and to have the opportunity to present it on 7" for the first time with Ralphi's blessing is overwhelmingly gratifying!”

“You Used To Hold Me seems like one of those anthemic jams that you pretty much heard everywhere- it was massive” recalls DJ Spinna. “I remember hearing it at the Paradise Garage in 1987, but it may have already been a hit on NY radio by that time. It’s one of those classic vocal tracks that impacted the House world as hard as Ten City ‘Devotion’ and ‘Move Your Body’ by Marshall Jefferson. The Bonus Beats on the 12” was a great tool for the DJ. You often heard it used in blends with other tracks.”

B2 Recordings founder Bengoa returns to the label this July with his ‘Sun Dub’ EP, comprised of three originals from the Greek producer and DJ.

The past year has been Bengoa unveil an array of material on his B2 Recordings imprint, ranging through a variety of style under the umbrella of House, from deep and intricate sounds by Peter Grummich, twitchy acid from fellow Greek artist Zak, Disco tinged material from Lex and of course dubbed out sounds from Bengoa himself.

Here, the head honcho returns again with a fresh three-tracker, opening with title-track ‘Sun Dub’, a high octane house workout fuelled by swinging drums, choppy bass stabs, airy dub chords and a classic Hammond organ hook line. ‘Negligence’ then opens the b-side, stripping things back to cavernous low-end pulsations and swirling stabs atop a robust drum machine jam. ‘Physique’ then wraps up the release on a deeper tip, bringing shimmering bell tones, a stab-led bass sequences and murky vocal chants into the forefront, while skippy drum hits and modulating hats carry the subtly nuanced, hypnotic groove.

Jon Hester returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids label with the second instalment of his ‘Converge’ LP, ‘Converge - Part II’.

The second part of 2020’s ‘Converge - Part I’, a body of music which saw enthusiastic responses from the likes of Surgeon, Lauren Flax, DJ Bone, Anthony Parasole and Jus-Ed to name just a few, sees the Berlin-based DJ/Producer and dancer generously expand on and refine his slick vision of techno on one of electronic music’s key labels.

By encompassing warm and soulful textures within club focussed grooves, Hester continues to explore the far reaches of both the musical cues picked up from his years as a dancer and formative time spent in the Midwest US, connecting influences from Chicago, Minneapolis, and Detroit.
Stretched across a double LP, the album opens with the spacious and icy ‘Stealth’ followed by the machine communications of ‘Artificial Intelligence’. The B-side sees a whirlwind of the synthetic in ‘Instant’ before ‘Contact’ swiftly picks up the pace with it’s warbling pads and slippery percussion.

On the second disc, ‘Circadian Slip’, custom-built for dancefloor pandemonium, continues with off-kilter leads and vocal snippets before ‘Shadows’ brings eerie syncopation to the proceedings. In the final stretch, ‘Silver’ maintains steady energy into the twilight hours, and the gorgeous ‘Wonder’ closes out the LP beautifully, providing a soft landing to an exceptional journey through Hester’s sound.

Oscar Mbo is the host of the Monthly Show The Ashmed Hour and is a graduate of The University Of South Africa. He is also a fine DJ who specialises in the worlds of house and hip hop with a distinctly South African flavour. Along the course of his DJing career he has shared the stage with the likes of Kuniyuki Takahashi, Lars Behrenroth, Rocco, Jullian Gomes, DJ Christos and Black Coffee. Here he serves up some super deep and warm house tunes with spiritual pads and lots of dreamy late night vibes. Perfect for those intimate basement clubs.

GALATHEA is the new project by DJ Massimo Napoli, and the title of his first solo album. Borrowing the name from the homonymous Nereid from the Greek mythology, the album is a deep dive into dub, spiritual jazz and African surroundings. Over 12 tracks, the LP conceals a strong personality. Departing from club culture with particular emphasis on electronic dub, Galathea unfolds into many influences and styles, making it a unique listening experience. Berlin based record label Equilibrisme delivers its second vinyl release. The next instalment is a three tracker EP including one original track by Man-L and a special collaboration between Canadian producer Mark Thibideau and Man-L. Once we started exploring the possibilities of Soul II Soul inna house music style, it took four unique approaches to properly capture the essence of house music on the sound systems as they moved their crowds through different moods. First up, Zepherin Saint’s Thunder, eases into its take on the classic as the layers build up underneath a blissful floating trumpet. Booker T Kings of Soul Satta mix steps up the intensity with each crescendo of that famous chorus, Then the first of two DJ Fen mixes is a cheerfully skittery garage dub, celebrating the dance as it hits a peak. After that Back To Life hits the chillout space, as Fen’s second mix is so laid back it’s almost horizontal, giving pause to contemplate what just happened.

Brawther's Negentropy is booting off the year with a return of London's best kept secret, Ron Obvious. The EP is a musical delight formed by three club ready deep house cuts that Ron hs on lockdown. Out Moving Windows is a 7 track LP out early October from Sean La'Brooy, co-founder of Australia's Analogue Attic and one half of Albrecht La'Brooy.

Currently based in New York, La'Brooy presents an emotional and contemplative record that leans on acoustic instrumentation, drawing on collaborations with a range of New York and Melbourne based jazz musicians, and a remix from Other Joe.

Those familiar with the nine records released under Albrecht La'Brooy will recognise the expressive piano and synth lines that feature.
Here, the piano Jazz and Improvisation graduate creates space for long-form solos from himself and featuring instrumentalists.
