After such a strange year of acceleration/deceleration, it now feels the right time for On Danse Comme Des Fous (“Let’s Dance Like Crazies”), Gilb’r’s first solo album. It’s not his first outing, of course; he is the Versatile Records guru, the ghost from Château Flight alongside I-Cube, and a revenant of our Bright Future. All these past records are, in a way, also his. But ODCDF clearly is its own moment.
Gilb’r has been living in Amsterdam for the last 6 years, a voluntary exile, wandering between his past Red Light district studio (Triangle Days) and the dreamed present of Café Del Pijp.
On Danse Comme Des Fous is the final chapter to necessary meanderings, the light at the end of a tunnel of learning: independence and/in process. Far from being the contrived work of a nerd, ODCF mirrors the Luddite commandments: machines become here the tools of freedom. The record is a spontaneous dance de Saint Guy, a record proud of its imperfections. Gilb’r does not have time for the new codes of hipster ambient. Instead, he leads us back to the 90’s riding some smokey radio waves (the album has its roots in his Radio Nova years), preferring immature psychedelism to prefabricated revival.
Lead by Gilb’r, a now incarnated phantom, the trip always is unexpected (Plant Life). We pass fellow travellers, I-Cube on Super Spreader or Cosmic Neman (Zombie Zombie) in a strange Russian ballet (Я не хочу знать), and, that goes without saying, we will end up totally lost.

Jori Hulkkonen was born and raised in a small town named Kemi with a population of 20,000, in the north of Finland. Since the early 80s, his musical influences have been on the side of electronic music, quite eclectic style for a 10-year-old boy who grew up in this period still marked by the seal of the Cold War. At the end of the 1980s, Jori's passion for electronic music was reinforced when he discovered its most abstract and minimal part: techno from Detroit and House Music from Chicago. Excellent DJ, he played in the best clubs and festivals in Europe. Jori Hulkkonen is an artist well known and extremely respected in the Nordic countries for his pioneering status, with his love of music and his involvement in making it known.

When you inject church into soulful house in a most subtle and
effective way, you get the newest release from Kalim Shabazz in
the form of “Joy”. What I like about this track is the fact that it is
not overpowering like a lot of spiritual house tunes akin to this
one. The vocalist delivers and doesn’t try to compete with the
world or themselves. The subtly of Shabazz’s production is
perfect and grounds everything as it clocks in at about 126.5
bpm.
DJ Kemit’s The Lounge Lizards Remix of “Joy” (126 bpm) adds
that ATL sound with a little bit of an extra bounce and groove
but doesn’t take away from the feel of of the tune. The remix
production fits the vocals just as easily as the original. It is a
safe bet for either to be a choice mix for the DJ. Highly
recommended!

Tomoki Tamura's Holic Trax label has long been renowned as a canny exporter of clued in house and techno. Their latest continues in this regard, as Tamura again calls on a series of renowned label friends to bring the heat. With names such as Mr.G, Satoshi Tommie and Tuccillo all appearing it here alongside Tamura himself, it's no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years of the label, is filled with drama and high points throughout.
This is immediately obvious from Mr.G's "Soba Shioyaki". Titled in homage to the label's Japanese heritage, it's a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. Deep but tough, it's a perfect of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. G's "Komorebi" puts a tough emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here.
HT24 comes from Satoshi Tommiie & Tuccillo, two producers whose sounds are perfectly suited to Holic's output. Their four-track contribution starts with "Do It", a spiky catchy number that's exciting from the off. "What Row" sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before "To Ray" ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. Wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only "You Know", a real bumper of a track with Chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes.
It's the left to Tamura himself to close the offering via HT25. A1, the appropriately named "5ive Years' is a techno workout of the type that's notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. Unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it's the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. "Polyphonic Six" displays the producer's more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that's hard not to embrace. All things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from Tamura & co. Here's to the next 5!

Canada's James Teej joins Andre Salmon and Aert Prog's Sagmen with three raw cuts entitled 'Solder Solder' EP including a remix from Superfreq's Jay Tripwire.
With over twenty years of experience, James Teej has released on seminal labels like Rekids, Sasha's Last Night on Earth, Rockets & Ponies and many more. Recently nominated for a Grammy having remixed Paul McCartney (collaborating with Timo Maas), Teej continues to explore all boundaries of house and techno through his productions and DJ sets across North and South America. Berlin-based Marlon Hoffstadt drops 'Coach Mike', the fourth EP on his own Retrograde imprint, featuring remixes from Massimiliano Pagliara and The Friend and following a hat trick of successful releases. The four-track EP is the sophomore release from Hoffstadt on his burgeoning label, which he co-founded with Natureboy Gold and Matteo Luis in August 2015. Previously featuring the likes of Kris Wadsworth and Tuff City Kids, Retrograde provides a platform for the artists to explore music alongside other forms of expression such as art, particularly surrealism. The vinyl sleeve artwork from the first four releases, when fitted together, completes the painting 'Interaction' by surrealist Hermann Reimer. With previous releases on FFRR and Play It Down, Hoffstadt boasts a sound that is both innovative yet authentic, and 'Coach Mike' displays the sonic alchemy that the talented producer, aged only 22, has already become known for. The title track starts as a grooving acid-based cut peppered with percussion before building up suspense to a surprising yet satisfying breakdown. This is his first release without vocals, allowing him to focus entirely on creating pure soundscape. Panorama Bar resident and Live at Robert Johnson mainstay Massimiliano Pagliara's rework of the A side is a Balearic-tinged affair, starting with a solid drum and building to a crescendo of bass, pads and synths, along with the analog synth elements for which he's known. This is an undeniable summer anthem that will captivate dancefloors across the world. 'Broncos' is a club track created for the floor. An acid bassline sits alongside industrial elements and stabbing synths.
MD (Michael Dykehouse) marks his debut to the D3 Elements family with the wonderfully diverse self titled LP, MD. Having previously released on labels Planet Mu, Rushhour, Ghostly International, Black Catalogue and Night Gallery, MD is given the honours of the first full length LP on the French label. From the opening dark and deep house number Wilder Penrose, with a chugging beat and delicate keys sprinkled throughout, to the electro sounds on Key Gen & Unison Dethrone and the G-Funk/Nu-jazz inspired Rat Bucks, this record showcases MD's quality in a myriad of different styles. Esteban Adame aka Frequencia drops the track list for an intergalactic backyard party with the Chicano Boombox EP. Esteban’s music career started as a DJ in L.A.’s East Side backyard party scene, he then stepped up his musical game by collecting gear and studying the piano. His evolution into a professional musician led him to gigs around L.A.’s jazz and salsa scenes. But he never lost his love for DJ culture and electronic music and that led him to join Mad Mike’s Galaxy 2 Galaxy band through his mutual friendships with UR’s Santiago Salazar and Yaxteq’s own DJ Dex. He’s released music on esteemed labels such as Underground Quality, Dolly, Mister Saturday Night, EPM, Jealous God and more. He also collaborates with DJ Dex as El Coyote.
“Rush The Floor” makes you want to do just that with its hypnotic lead synth and a breakdown that will leave the dancefloor wanting more. “Deep Function” flexes musical chops via soulful chords and a perfectly timed solo all riding over a thumping house beat. “Still Here” recalls classic Detroit Techno methodology as a reminder to keep the inspiration flowing. The EP is rounded out with “The Promise” a driving yet euphoric track perfect for watching the sunrise after a long night.
