The fallen angel. The rebellious soul expelled from the pearly gates and forced to live in hell among mere mortals for eternity. Here they endeavour to condition and corrupt everything around them, a bold middle finger aimed in the direction of its former home in the promised land. Now imagine a soundtrack to this tragic tale. FunkinEven—also known as Steven Julien— has made just that with his debut album Fallen.
Split into two contrasting chapters, Fallen follows the trail of our main character. The first six songs introduce us to utopia, a collection which is matched by the light and airy tones of this initial set. The twist comes right down the middle, where we descend into the project's darker, hellish bogs. Both episodes intertwine seamlessly, and all composed, written and produced by Steven himself.
Julien plays the majority of the instruments you hear on the record, using session musicians — including three appearances from Hercules on bass — sparingly to plug any gaps. All the above choices combine to emit a contagious warmth that blankets the whole record. Within the dozen tracks, he jumps between everything from jazz fusion to techno. It's easily his best work to date.
Steven Julien first surfaced in 2009 with a refreshing sound unlike many of his contemporaries. While his peers flirted with R&B, abstract grime and whatever else, Julien forged his own path, one which partnered an organic, analogue sensibility with the sounds of electro, '80s funk, and acid. Initially affiliated with the Eglo camp, he eventually formed his own label, Apron Records, which has become a reliable outlet in its own right, not only for his own workings, but also as a home base for talents like Seven Davis Jr and Greg Beato. He's also proven to be an avid collaborator over the years, having worked with Fatima, Delroy Edwards, and, most notably, Kyle Hall, with whom he creates the unapologetically raw sounds of FunkinEvil.

Mental Groove Records is thrilled to announce the official vinyl release of the sought-after ambient house / minimal techno e.p. by japanese producer Asian Psilocybe Foundation (APF). Originally pressed on a limited run of 25 handcrafted white label and available only at Disk Union Tokyo where all copies sold out within a minute. Now it's available to the widest audience. APF had raised much attention from the Detroit techno scene since he started producing music. He got remixed by Jon Dixon of Underground Resistance's Timeline on his 1st e.p. Cosmic Dance' that was released on New Heroes Records, the label of legendary producer Orlando Voorn (Fix, Playboy). APF is an eccentric Japanese musician who on this e.p. achieve to translates into sounds the sensations he experienced during his stays in the Doshi forest (Chbu region of Japan). With finesse and elegance his music balances between the real and the surreal, using layers of unprocessed field recordings materials and traditional instruments, creating meditative soundscapes at the emergence of ambient and trance over minimal beats for an unique final rendered. Environmental grooves anyone APF is also part of the insane Optimist monday parties at the (Rey Audio equipped) club AIR in Tokyo where he performs live alongside his dj team Tobi & Jonson. Water Vein starts with a ritual sequences followed by two carefully crafted club tracks for both the feet and the brain, shaping abstract space throughout the listening experience with an extended version by veteran Dj Yogurt to boost. Dj Yogurt got on the wheels of steels while working at Cisco Records, one of the top record shop in Japan and is a regular figure in the city nightlife and headlined several time the famous Fuji Rock Festival. Water Vein has been mastered by Frederic Stader for Music Matters in Berlin. ' 98150,"Syrian wedding singer gone hero of the electronic underground Omar Souleyman is back, this time on The Trilogy Tapes. The original of Yuli Yuweli' appears in all its exotic, Middle Eastern pop glory, with two remixes by label mainstay Rezzett. The first being a typically dusty and rusty rendition with overdriven aesthetics sounding like a lost tape from 1989. The Rezzett Rerezz' is what it's all about though, taking the vintage and antiquated aesthetics into deeper, spacier territories quite brilliantly, much like that other dusty kid Terreke.

Riding high on the success of a second release that introduced A-Scott & Chad to the Constant Sound fold, the third instalment finds Burnski back in the saddle to offer up "Changes", getting into a more techno-oriented frame of mind without losing that warmth and playful sensibility he has made his own over the years.
After strong remixes from Trus'me, Steve O'Sullivan and Cab Drivers on previous releases, Constant Sound 003 gives another opportunity for the label to call upon the finest in the business to reinterpret the original material.
In keeping with the heads-down workout tones of Burnski's original, it makes perfect sense to invite an artist as accomplished as Deadbeat up for a remix. Scott Monteith has long been a stellar example of how to push dub techno in thrilling new directions and it shows on his version of "Changes".
Kris Wadsworth has just as much to say for himself after years spent crafting heavyweight house and techno with a mercenary instinct matched by lashings of machine soul. He reduces the original track into a stripped down techno dub perfect for late at night.
It's yet another step forwards for a label committed to delivering nothing but the highest quality house and techno for those who seek a touch more depth from their music.

Amadeus sees it's catalog graced yet again by New Zealand outfit Chaos In The CBD. The kiwi brothers, birthed Ben & Louis Helliker-Hales, are no new faces to the label, or the wide variety of genre-bending acronyms they encompass. Having recently relocated from tropical Auckland to damp London earlier this year, the two take their productions along with them in their latest efforts, 816 To Nunhead. Title track and aside, "816 To Nunhead," is tinged with what's left of summer. A nostalgic tune built for the sun and soaked in funk. It's a track reminiscent of early french disco, almost as if built for the two robots themselves. Guitar plucks and hi hats flow seamlessly throughout the tune, aided by a glorifying vocal, "I would like to think of my music as just an extension, an extension of me of today or whatever." What emotion of freedom and escape evoked on the Aside can be contrasted on the flip, "78 To Stanley Bay," a tune built behind the every looming theme of loneliness. Accompanied by a live trumpet courtesy of Isaac Aseeli, '78 To Stanley Bay' tells us a story, or rather a journey, built behind dirty hats and delayed keys. This is a track fashioned for everywhere but the club, and we absolutely love that.

After several acclaimed EPs on some of Europe's greatest labels, such as Local Talk, FACES, Mile High and his own Rawthenticity, it's now on the Hong Kong's most prominent label "Fragrant Harbour" that Fulbert has decided to land with a truly raw piece of house music. Meticulously sampled and arranged with the help of analog gears, Days Of Being Wild got this very special saturated ow-fi sound, very characteristic of one of the most promising talent to have emerged onto the French electronic scene in recent times.

General Ludd is Rich McMaster from New Jersey and Tom Marshallsay from Canterbury. The guys met at the Glasgow Art School, where Rich studied environmental art and Tom studied fine art. Their first collaborations were interactive sound installations, but that quickly gave way to all night music making sessions, some of which resulted in this fine twelve-inch. Both tracks have already become staples at Mister Saturday Night parties. Eamon tends to play the heady, "Brothers and Sisters," and Justin tends to play the absolutely crushing, "Woo Ha," but we're sure you'll like them both.

an honest journey, unearthing a serious passion for the
obscure boundaries of house and techno.
'The mix is influenced heavily by how I used to DJ at the
first party I ever promoted, named Seismic, and another
named Monox which was a straight up techno night where
I was a resident from the age of 17. And although it wasn't
my plan, it turned into a kind of tribute to the cities that
really formulated me as a DJ: Detroit, Chicago and Glasgow.

Ataraxia: a state of serene calmness' - and a highly appropriate title for two tracks that epitomise Simon Garcia's singular vision of the hypnotic potentiality of house. On the back of his residency at Madrid's MOTEL club, a busy international tour schedule, and high praise from an array of luminaries including Laurent Garnier, Garcia touches down on Poker Flat for the second time very much on the crest of a wave. The title track's pounding kick and busy hats provide a bedrock for a slow crescendo of drones and parallel, pulsing synths. Skilfully, layer after layer is added to the mix to deliver a heady, reverberating transfiguration. Eschewing the easy tricks of big builds and breakdowns, it's an exercise in serenity through meditative repetition. 'A Hot Drink In the Desert' casts a tropical feel with its bustling beat and dancing xylophone. This is soon disrupted by high frequency, Hitchcockian drones, ominous piano strokes and undulating bass tones, taking the tune into haunting soundtrack territory - a deliciously mysterious and spooky groove.

After the success of his Smack release on Versatile, Maghreban returns with 3 tracks for the label. All of them are quite different. I'm not gonna describe them all here... Here are some adjectives who will help you to catch the vibe : B-Boy house / rough / jackin / early Techno influenced / ESG / deep / k7. All i can say is that Ayman has a special approach to House music, probably influenced by his hip-hop roots as a producer. Lots of cuts, breaks and raw sounding for maximum floor effect.

Poland's Father And Son Records And Tapes presents its probably most adventurous release, four outer space excursions by DJ Sajko. Plock-based Pawel Bartnik is a musician and sound engineer, releasing solo or as a member of kIRk trio, one of the most forward-thinking contemporary Polish bands. Here he presents his highly unique blend of slow motion techno, dub, industrial music, folk, jazz and field recordings. From twisted psychedelic bangers for the late night raves through Eastern-flavoured operatic vocals to clicks and scratches from the deepest bowels of the Earth, "cutman" lands somewhere between precise, conceptual structures and free, open-minded improvisation. Different, fascinating and impressive.

In the past year or so, LPH has increasingly been turning its focus to Sweden, grabbing records by HNNY, M.D.C., and Name In Lights, and remixes from Korne´l Kova´cs and Shakarchi & Strane´us. The label's next release, an EP by Gothenburg-based newcomer, Andre´ Laos, indicates owners Nik Mercer and Jacques Renault have no intention of disassociating themselves from the nation!
The EP—titled Roundabout and loosely themed around traffic signals— will indubitable make its way to myriad spring and summer playlists; it's warm, smooth, juicy, and has just enough kick to make you woozy in the head while you succumb to its infectious hooks as they crawl up your spine and pluck your heartstrings. The fun starts with 'Detour,' a supple disco-infused boogie decked out with punchy keys, fuzzy female vocals, shimmering hats, and carefree drums that are ever so slightly behind the beat. If the track was a drink, it'd be an icy daiquiri, sweating in the sun. Following the original is Session Victim's remix, a decidedly more sultry and patient—albeit shorter—statement. Flush with horns and stuttered synth licks, the Germans' version sounds merrily drunk on wine and a full stomach.
Flip the record and find 'Yield,' another tropical ditty, though, unlike 'Detour,' it's urgent and more intense. Here, the rolling drums are sharp and pronounced, the vocals keenly in focus, and the melodies more rigid, but that doesn't mean the tune won't decimate dancefloors! The 12' is concluded with a melancholic ballad of sorts called 'One Way' that will give you gosebumps as it sways you to sleep (or out the door or into the moonless night, depending on where you're at). A robust and confident final statement, 'One Way' makes it clear that Roundabout is only the first of many chapters to come in Laos' book. Stay tuned.

Art Department announce the release of 'Cruel Intentions feat. Seth Troxler', the first single from the highly anticipated sophomore studio album, 'Natural Selection'. The track will premiere on Pete Tong's legendary BBC Radio 1 show on 17th October, before receiving an official release through No.19 Music on the 10th November.
'Cruel Intentions' is a brooding whirlwind of hypnotic beats, layered synths and off-centre vocals courtesy of Kenny Glasgow. True to form, the track brims with Art Department's signature impeccable arrangement; simplistic perfection, distorted through a murderous bass line and raw textures, topped with hauntingly eerie spoken word verses by long-standing friend and collaborator, Seth Troxler.
Stepping up for the first remix is revered house master and Ibadan Records boss Jerome Sydenham. His 'Deep Space Dub' reinterpretation is just that - it relies on classic sounding drums, seeing Jerome layer space-age melodies whilst permeating the track with a kinetic sense of intergalactic energy. One for the late night hours, it's a sumptuous affair from start to finish.
Completing this most discerning package is Fred P, boss of the Soul People label and a true master of deep house, bringing two mixes to the table with his signature reshapes. Heavy drums, floating synth lines, which hover over the landscaped drums, really take the listener on a trip. Tension builds throughout and the original vocals are reduced to freaky, indecipherable mutters that add another level of intrigue to an already heady track.
'Cruel Intentions' is an exquisite introduction to Art Department's forthcoming sophomore album, 'Natural Selection' which follows their highly esteemed 2011 debut, 'The Drawing Board'. The album represents the music, the story and Art Department's evolution from the projects inception until now, alongside Kenny and Jonny's personal journeys as individuals.
Art Department recently announced their winter world tour which celebrates the release of 'Natural Selection' and will see the duo take their immersive DJ performances to the world's most esteemed venues, festivals and No.19 Music label showcases around the globe from this month until early 2015. Art Department have been installed as residents at CircoLoco, at arguably the most revered club on earth - DC-10 (Ibiza) since 2010 and have performed at legendary venues and trendsetting festivals worldwide, including Panorama Bar (Berlin), Fabric (UK), Warung (Brazil), Output (NY), Ultra Music Festival (Miami), Lollapalooza (Chicago), Tomorrowland (Belgium), BPM (Mexico), Burning Man (Black Rock), Coachella (California) to name just a few.

We've always thought Catz 'n Dogz are well mannered gentlemen. Here they prove it with their ghetto-minded twist on the most important gesture a man can make... Ladies first.
'Booty Comes First' opens with a mid '90s arpeggiated synth hook that pumps with a crisp sense of innocence. This purity is soon corrupted by subtle orgasm moans, gangster vocal loops and a twisted melting trumpet horn blast. Switched up with classic garagey off-beat snares, it carries all the classic Catz 'n Dogz motifs while remaining fresh, exciting and seriously next level.
Unlike the A-side, there are no airs and graces about 'Bones Shakin.'' A swinging, butt-busting groove, this is quint- essential dirtybird thanks to its jacking dynamic, wretched robo-vocals and head-turning noises and FX.
This follows Catz 'n Dogz powerhouse stomper 'Drop It' on dirtybird's lip-smacking BBQ compilation. Seven years deep and this Polish / Californian connection continues to spawn some of the most subversive, exciting house music on the planet. Long may this relationship last!

Taken from the monster compilation "Acid Rain" compiled by UK house pioneer Terry Farley we have Acid Rain sampler #2, A carefully curated selection of choice cuts spanning the many styles of Chicago's Acid House movement.
Sampler #2 and the quality continues, on this volume we are treated to some bonafide Acid House classics! The late, great Frankie Knuckles dominates the A-side with two of his biggest and most loved club tracks, "Baby Wants To Ride" and "Bad Boy", both featuring the inimitable vocals of Jamie Principle and Frankie's trademark production skills. Over on the B-side we have Pierre's Fantasy Club's storming Acid / vocal cut "Got The Bug" and Pleasure Zone's sinister, jacking "Fantasy".
Another truly essential selection!

Despite having numerous aliases, the production quality for prolific Dutch house producer Gerd has always stayed the same. Following his 2013 collection of remixes of MK's 'Always', Gerd is back with a two track debut release on DFTD. Gerd collaborates with Marcoradi on the EP's title track which is based around a classic piano stab chord progression accompanied by a haunting vocal sample. The pair manage to build the track to almost cacophonic extremes before dropping into a delightfully warm bass synth release to start the wild ride all over again. 'Work Da Tool' on the other hand sees Gerd back on solo duties. Opening with a classic house sustained string chord, incorporating reggae like vocal samples before breaking into a pumping, bass synth driven, masterpiece, 'Work Da Tool' definitely 'works' on the dance floor.

Ian Blevins is from England but he's quite the dude. This is his first offering for the ESP Institute. On side A, meet the happy beast named Hannibal, a big room tune that ticks every box your heart may desire — bone dry drum production, atmospheric arpeggios, soaring strings and pads, a beautifully sweeping bass progression and an overall sense of euphoria; goosebumps guaranteed. On side B, Welcome Aunt Poly cools us down a little bit — stripping back the instrumentation, minimizing any superfluous effects, and layering a sparse bassline and droning synths over a laidback 808 — all to a relaxed tempo. Blevins' debut proves that from the right point of view, familiar elements and motifs can take on a new life whilst reminding us just how the rave can feel. These two songs will increase your serotonin levels.

First they had a feather fight. Then they did what's known in the industry as 'the gettup' and proceeded to tear a hole into 2013... Now San Fran / Bristol's finest dynamic duo return with two more beastly jams.
'Steven Jello' takes us on a deep journey into the groove space continuum. Boasting a strutting cosmic bassline, hypnotic percussion, weeping synth flurries and a timeless house vocal shot, it's Justin and Eats at their most con- templative. Heads down, feet to the floor, get busy... We have no idea who Steven Jello is, but as he's inspired a tribute like this, we're already in love with the man.
'Kong' is so monstrous it'll have you climbing the nearest skyscraper for safety. You'll be ducking from the groaning, moaning airplanes overhead. You'll be air drumming to the gargantuan tub-thumping fills. You'll be shaking your hairy booty to the snake-like percussion. You'll be pounding your chest to the rusty organ flourishes. You'll be asking yourself... Where has this tune been all my life!
Few co-lab projects resonate with such distinctive shared spirit and sonic camaraderie. It's a shame Justin and Eats don't live closer together or we'd have an entire album of this high calibre material by now.

Spiritual energy is one of a kind. It's pure, eternal, and soothing. Spiritual energy positively impacts 9 to 5 office workers, athletes and artists alike. A strong spiritual grounding, no matter what religion, is the essence of happiness and positivity.'You Are Everything' from the forthcoming album, 'Louie Vega Starring...' features Jocelyn Brown, an infinitely talented singer and staple of r&b, soul and dance music. The single is a powerful exaltation of our protagonist's deep appreciation for her Lord that she wants the world to hear. And let us tell you...with Jocelyn's golden pipes...the message comes across loud and clear!
She comments, 'This song is a deliverance song. It expresses all that you feel in your heart and soul. I am from the Pentecostal Church and when you give praise for your life, you're giving him thanks for being everything to me. I know that when folks hear this song, their days will be blessed and overjoyed!' Jocelyn and Louie Vega go way back, 'Louie and I have known each other for a long time! He was introduced to me by Jellybean Benitez. Louie and I worked on his first projects together and we have had some beautiful success. So Louie gave me a call to let me know he was doing a new album and he wanted me to be a part of it. Naturally, I was over the moon!'This time around they find themselves collaborating on the Vega-produced 'You Are My Everything' for his latest album. Brown beams with excitement as she talks about the Master of House's strong predilection for inspiring creativity in others, 'Louie has a way that allows you to show who you are and your gift! He introduces the song to you, gives you his thoughts and let's you go! He is a singer's producer!' Any house music and nightlife fan can immediately taste the notes of a classic Vega production upon pressing play. And with the lyrics, melody and background arrangements of Josh Milan, the single is a hit. Vega starts you off with a slow sizzle followed by a steady but patient uptempo beat. Electric piano grooves beautifully coat the slow buildup with a layer of sophistication. Vega's friend, Cindy Mizelle curated the background vocals, which feature herself, James 'D Train' Williams, Sharon Anderson, Paulette McWilliams and Jocelyn Brown. Amidst the frenzy of all these intertwining vocals, there is peace. All the elements are so carefully pieced together that you fail to notice the song ascent. You just want to dance! Afterwards, you're left wondering, 'Wait! What just happened'
The song features the all star cast of David Morales, Jocelyn Brown, James 'D Train' Williams, Sharon Anderson, Paullette McWilliams, Cindy Mizelle, Selan Lerner (keyboards), Josh Milan (keyboards), and Gene Perez (bass). And what would a Louie Vega single release be without a little help from his friends. Vega calls upon good friend, NYC legend and King of House, David Morales to create a remix that has the energy to rip any dance floor apart. Morales' mash-up remix is comprised of a Vega remix of Free by Rhyze (Nervous Records) and Jocelyn's powerful vocals. David contributed another version to this special release, 'Morales Tribute to Frankie Knuckles Remix.' Strictly Rhythm continues its revitalised run of release with "I Love You" from newcomer Obas Nenor, with remixes coming from Andres and Luke Solomon.
"I Love You" intoxicates from its very first beat, an idiosyncratic house cut that wears its disco and soul influences very much on its sleeve. Driven by poignant strings and a heartfelt vocal, it breathes nostalgic life into any room in which it is played. The Andres remix beefs up the bottom end, with cosmic synths and a wandering bassline transforming the cut from poignant to powerful. Solomon's Body Edit further takes the track into dancefloor territory, with sharp percussion and an urgent groove making the track fully suitable for peaktime club play.

Fantastic reissue of Paradise's Deep Groove's seminal 'I Love' EP produced by Nelson 'Paradise' Roman. Originally released back in 91', this is one of the true holy grails of deep house. Kicking things off is the incredible deep hypnotic groove of 'I Love', which became a NYC Sound Factory classic in the hands of Junior Vasquez as well as receiving heavy rotation on the underground house scene. The next two tracks 'Hypnotic Flute' and 'Trance Dance' are both excellent but the other really outstanding track is the deep floating 'Inner mind' with its lush haunting synths and intricate rhythms. Top quality house music at its best!
