Auf seinem dritten Album, "The Steam Age", widmet sich der Düsseldorfer Kreidler-Schlagzeuger Thomas Klein mit Hilfe eines stillgelegten Klaviers als Klangquelle einer maschinellen Ästhetik jenseits des allgegenwärtigen Binärcodes. Klein klopft, scharrt, kratzt und zupft - das Bearbeiten von Holzkorpus und Stahlseiten sind die Bausteine eines weit gefassten Klangspektrums, das er später im Sampler gegen den Strich bürstet. Alle verfremdeten Patterns und Sequenzen dürfen anschließend auf dem typischen SølystSchlagwerk-Groove tanzen und verschmelzen mit ihm zu einem hypnotisch treibenden Maschinenfunk. Dabei folgt Sølyst keinem Muster oder einer Chronologie. Der programmatisch gewählte Albumtitel verweist auf einen imaginären Überbau, der versucht, eine in Klang und Grooves gegossene Studie von Abnutzung und Gebrauchsspuren widerzuspiegeln. Die Musik ist durchsetzt von Zeitspuren wie Staub, Patina und Rost aus der Welt der Maschinen und ihrem Zusammenspiel und Ineinandergreifen von mechanischen Bauteilen wie Zahnrädern und Kolben. Auch Lärm, Hitze und Dampf gehören zu diesem assoziativen Inspirationsfeld.

Dexter clearly know a thing or two about creating dance floor moments, with each track exhibiting a classiness that belies his age. Have It Like That kicks things off with a chugging, hypnotic feel and crisp drums providing the basis for a cool vocal hook and thick, warm bass. No Time gets a shade deeper and no less funky, while Get To This points a little further towards the center of the dance floor. Closing track 120 goes even further into the late night vibes with a seriously infectious groove.

Front the roots of I Records comes the very first and original release of Somore "I Refuse (What You Want)".
The vocals resonated by Damon Trueitt as his bridge of "What You Want" has gone on to strike chords in people's hearts almost 20 years later.

This first release came with NY deep remixes by Wayne Gardiner (best known for his work on Strictly Rhythm & Nervous Records). It also featured production work by the original "Filthy Rich".

Released in 1996, the record went on to spawn a list of UK influenced remixes.
