Terrence Parker / Iron Curtiss - Rmx 002 - Juju And Jordash / Eddie Niguel Remixes

The second instalment in Midnight Shift's remix series sees Eddie Niguel and Juju & Jordash put their magic touch on already well-received tracks by Iron Curtis (Johannes Paluka) and Detroit veteran Terrence Parker.

On the A-side, duo Juju & Jordash let their love for the jazz and experimental shine through. From a straight-up melodic house number by TP to some form of beautiful ugly, the track leads in with a deceiving pop bassline before turning into a broken, asylum hideout for the deranged. Thankfully for us listeners, it fades off with grace.

'Never Give Up' is Iron Curtis's contribution to the label (Shift 002), which saw two versions of a deeply complex composition and an inclusion in Ian Pooley's Raveline Mix Session. Here, Eddie Niguel of 'Absolute' fame turns the intention into a full onslaught aimed at the clubber's jugular, pausing just long enough for a twisted break. Another hit out of the ballpark by Eddie

Dnaut is a brand new label launching with an EP from the mysterious collective MDEC - Music Dance Every Chance. The first track 'The Treasure' is a spangled fusion of synths that variously rasp to shine, while the percussions lend a rough feel. The rubbery drums and bass line of Riz Jungle' harks back to old school Chicago. 'Hero' is a predatory, creeping and crawling house grove with a whispered voice to add yet more intrigue. 'Desire' featuring Hayley Blackman is a little more playful- Rooted drums underpin elastic, swaggering percussive lines and a little disco dazzle is hiding in the subtle synth patterns. 'Glisten Feathers' feat Billy Love closes the EP heartfelt style with a breathy male vocal. Shimmering synths, lingering pads and tinkling pianos add color to the killer vocal.

ack A Yard is the 4th release on the extremely succesful OPROOF label. Drunk on rum mr. G produces one killer after another. With his trademark analog sounds and basslines to die for he understands perfectly well what it takes to make the people dance all night. Boris Ross is Luxaflex headman and he drops a wicked remix! With great remixes and releases on Luxaflex and Stolen Moments this guy is building a good reputation. His style is just funky as hell. Nuff said, just buy on sight and feel it!!

Sound Of Sound - Son Of Sound 02

Coming off the heels of his Son Of Sound 01 EP and Night Shift release on Basement Floor, Henry Maldonado releases yet another Son Of Sound EP on his District 30 imprint. Son Of Sound 02 features 3 tracks that vary in mood, but just as the power-plant on the artwork would suggest, they're all New York and all business.

The A side sets things off with Majik Triken. The early morning uptempo deep house stomper grooves eerily with a combination of dirty drums and a harmonic synth line. The haunting vocal loop creeps its way into the track and carries the groove with the rest of the distorted elements. It's a prime example of what can happen when you take Detroit chords and combine it with a New York style backing track.

Side B kicks off with Please Stand By To Move. Straight-to-the-point 808 drumming opens up the track and leads into to even more tech-house chord action. This one is a deep groover throughout, with the energy intensity building as you ride it. Definitely a track for both New York and Detroit fans alike.

Kool Kontrol slows down the tempo to break-neck speed and takes you on a blissful, soulful journey. The track delivers a slow-paced, washed out groove laced with soulful loops and arpeggios. Its 4/4 drum track and behind-the-beat baseline give it more of a hip-hop feel while reinforcing the soulful edge and keeping the energy cool. Pop the top!.

Various - Colour Series: Black 10 Sampler

The Freerange Colour Compilation series reaches it's final conclusion this year, and having reached the ripe old age of ten it's time to go Black. The label compilation which has also spawned many of Freerange's bigger singles continues as it first began, presenting the highlights of the years releases alongside four well-chosen exclusive tracks from established producers and newcomers alike which is what we have here on this sampler release. And yeah, we know black isn't actually a colour but we've run out of coloured card options from the pantone book so it seems a seems a suitable point to draw the series to a close as we go out with a bang on Black 10.
Kicking things off we have a killer production from one the most exciting new Japanese house producers we've come across. Sai wowed Jimpster with his 2011 STHLM and recent Ornate releases so when his demo arrived we were all over it. A La Carte is one of those stand out tracks which oozes class and personifies emotional machine-funk with it's simple Detroit chords, nagging bass and raw drums. When the new bass line drops in the break things go up a gear and at the risk of sounding like a right hippy, you really can feel the whole dancefloor come together and share a proper moment. Definitely a special track when dropped at the right time.
Next up next we have yet more fresh young talent, this time from Hamburg and going by the name of Suburb. With just one previous release on Hafendisko the young duo have penned their own sound with clear old school house references but crunched up and sample-heavy for the modern dancefloor. Aspiration keeps the groove shuffling whilst lush rhodes pads loop and a distant tripped out vocal keep the vibe raw and underground.
Two well known and respected producers join forces next with a new project going by the name of Bellavoid. Moments is a high-energy slice of house euphoria laden with spine-tingling chords and reach-for-the-raers strings underpinned with crisp, stripped back beats. We're thinking Milton Jackson meets Orbital at Raindance in 1991.
Closing the EP we have someone who will be a new name to many but hopefully not for long - Mark Hand. On Don't Take It All Away we are treated to an extended soulful beatdown jam featuring the vocals of Vicky Jackson. A perfect last track, this should leave every last one of you blissed-out and heartened by its smokey, sensual groove.

Whoever knows of Toi Toi Musik will know they have become synonymous with underground quality and for keeping things close and personal for their events and agency. Well, with their new label it's no different; they stay very true to their identity (a good mix of English and German) and their quality. The 1st EP is produced by the legendary Mr G. Inspired after playing live at one of their events he wrote the track 'Toi Toi', which was later released on D'Julz's Bassculture label. As a consequence, his relationship with the couple is so personal he nurtured them to open their own label and offered them 3 tracks for TT01 called 'Much Love EP'. The 4th track is a remix by 'HelloRepeat' co-owner Daze Maxim, who has been a guest resident for the party for nearly its entire existence.

REBELLION
18.09.2013

A firm favourite in the Rebellion camp, prolific producer Aidan Lavelle makes his third appearance on the imprint this time with the immense 'Direction EP', comprising of three outstanding big room tracks that will blow your mind. Powerful build ups and epic breakdowns will dominate the dancefloor while trippy FX, rolling grooves and deep tribal undertones will circulate the atmosphere with Aidan's vocoder enhanced vocals adding a real stand out element. All three tracks are to be played loud for full effect and maximum destruction on the dancefloor.

Accomplished composer and producer, Aidan Lavelle has worked with a number of world-class artists including U.N.K.L.E Gorillaz, Ian Brown, Queens Of The Stone Age and Massive Attack.

Having built up an illustrious body of work in television and film music, last May saw him take a step back into the realms of underground dance music with his debut solo release on Rebellion, the 'Tinnitus EP'. While also remixing for the likes of Layo & Bushwacka and Betoko, the highly successful 'Get Yourself EP' followed in December on Rebellion receiving huge support from the likes of Pete Tong on his Radio 1 show. Aidan´s releases are being heavily by a wide range of artists including James Holden, Richie Hawtin, Solomun, Nic Fancuilli, Sasha, Tiefschwarz and Mandy

Aside from building up a busy touring schedule and playing alongside Damian Lazarus at the Rebellion Rave in London and the Crosstown Rebel's Warehouse Project date in Manchester last year, Aidan is also working on a solo album under the name Modal, whilst continuing to create sound design and score for film and planning more underground dance music releases and remixes.

Fantastic Man - Heartbreaker

About 18 months ago, Let's Play House released its most significant EP to date: Fantastic Man's It's Essential. Since then, the Australian producer—whose real name is Mic Newman—has gone on to release a handful of other records, tour the world, and even remix a song for LPH's co-owner/-founder, Jacques Renault. A followup to the 12' that started it all was always in order and it's with great pleasure that we finally present it to you now!

Heartbreaker kicks off with its title track, a spooky, acid-tinged burner that gets the blood flowing. Following that is 'Zero,' a lighter and brighter tune that shuffles along with grace and a certain carefree aesthetic that evokes 80s synth pop. On the flip, Fantastic Man returns to the darkness with 'Keep Out,' a sinister house cut that slowly, patiently boils, bubbles, and stews over the course of six-and-a-half minutes. The EP concludes with a fidgety, swirling remix of 'Keep Out' by Suzanne Kraft, flush with modular synth noodlings and jams.

Johnwaynes & Disconine - Beat My House

Since 2005 Jepe and MrBeat joined forces as Johnwaynes, and they are
very successful with it. From their first releases up to now, they have
produced under the same guise, a widely diverse body of work, from a
very diversity house, to full-on orchestra oriented classics, with the
occasional drift into the more elegant territories of disco. The new EP
'House-o-matic' continues right there.

Outboxx - Outboxx

Outboxx

Outboxx

12inchIDLE018
Idle Hands
22.04.2013

It's been exciting to watch Outboxx take shape over the past two years, chasing their vision for a more meaningful kind of deep
house music via Jake's intense attention to detail, Matt's way with the keys and Naomi's arresting voice. It's been a steady
progression, reaching out to select labels but keeping things largely close to home on Idle Hands, Immerse and BRSTL, while their
tracks have developed in ever more confident strides.
They make perfect sense as a Bristol act, but not because of an externally idealised vision of a Bristol house music scene, but more
because their music taps into the same spirit of adventure and soulfulness that has always characterised the most treasured of all
music from the city. Like many before them, Outboxx have a gift for capturing emotion and anchoring it with just the right amount of
rudeness.
It feels like the right time then for an album from the pair, and upon listening to it you can instantly hear why. Afforded the space of a
long player, Jake and Matt's ideas flourish, both more refined and wilder in the same instance. The tempos move from lo-fi
downtempo skit to pumped up house, via haunted minimal techno and snappy garage, and yet the shifts seem barely noticeable
between the cohesive sound that they have formed.
Most importantly, it's a record that sounds completely out on its own, marrying together disparate sounds and rhythms and making
them sound natural. It's a great testament to how far Outboxx have come in short space of time, and an equally exciting pointer to
what might come in the future.

Phil Weeks - Sharks Looking For Fishes

Real house master Phil Weeks makes his debut on Guy Gerber's Supplement Facts imprint with a trio of dancefloor bombs packed with his signature bump, funk and bass. Title track 'Sharks Looking For Fishes' is a fuzzy, warm affair with warping pads and shimmering cow-bells building with dusty samples combined with a jacking bassline. On the B-side 'Bees Assault' is pure heads down techy business, unhinged and driving it's the peak time banger of the release and an assault on the senses. Lastly, 'Hold Onto The Memories' brings back the French deep touch with another solid jacking groove and faded vox.

Parisian DJ/Producer Phil Weeks is a purist plain and simple and has channelled his unwavering passion for unadulterated house almost exclusively through his own label Robsoul Recordings, established in 1999 and now one of the most consistent and respected labels in the business.

Weeks released his highly acclaimed debut album 'Love Affair LP' in 2011 on Robsoul and the label is also home to releases from house royalty such as Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, David Duriez and Chris Carrier. Weeks has also collaborated on a number of productions with Chicago hero DJ Sneak as well as fellow French innovators Chris Carrier and Dan Ghenacia.

Phil Weeks will be a guest at Guy Gerber's Wisdom Of The Glove party on 28th August at Pacha, Ibiza and it's an honour to have him on the Supplement Facts imprint for this killer release. Bringing a mix of old-school Chicago with nu-school French flair, Phil Weeks has and always will be dedicated to delivering proper house music through his DJing, productions, label Robsoul and now through his Crate Diggin' project that started in 2013 and further proves Weeks as a master of selection.
