Urulu - Play Something With Words Ep (12")

INT. BURGER SHOP. SECRET DJ HIDEOUT. NORTH LONDON SOMEWHERE DJ Taylor 'Urulu' Freels speaks to the Waitress behind the counter. URULU Get me a Burger; hold the cheese, and a side of fries too doll face. WAITRESS Sure thing honey Urulu turns around and leans back on the counter, he slowly casts his gaze over the DJs and vagabonds who call this place home. WAITRESS Here you go sugar, number 32, why don't you get yourself a seat, I'll bring it over. Urulu turns and grabs the receipt out from the waitress' fingers, briefly looking down to confirm the number before flashing a wink in her direction. He leavers himself away from the counter and begins a slow walk over to the corner of the restaurant, noticing a free chair on the way. Just as he approaches the free chair a shrill voice shouts out SHRILL VOICE So... we meet again... OOO-ROO-LOOO Urulu, swivels on his heal, a bolt of terror and adrenaline rush through his body. He knows that voice... It's his nemesis... Algorithm Man. URULU Of all the Burger Joints in all of North London, you had to come to this one. ALGORITHM MAN Let's throw down bitch From no where 'Clear' by Cybotron starts playing. Algorithm Man starts popping and locking to its crisp and clean 808 beats... he is so good at 'The Robot' people start applauding and cheering. URULU You've got no game Algorithm Man... let me show you how it's done Urulu launches 3 burgers at Algorithm Man's head, each one meeting with its target whilst perfectly timed with the still blaring 'Clear'. Urulu flips himself into a 'Suicide' landing on a large table; he then propels himself into the 'Windmill'. Fries, Burgers, Sodas and Onion rings from the table get caught up in the updraft of his crazy-quick 'Windmill' and begin to relentlessly pound Algorithm Man. WAITRESS *Screams* Algorithm Man's 'Robot' is no match for Urulu's super human 'Windmill'. The sheer amount of greasy food now stuck to Algorithm Man weighs him down so much he topples backwards like a felled tree. ALGORITHM MAN OKAY, OKAY... You win this time OOO-ROO-LOO... But I'll be back, mark my words... I'll be back With that Algorithm Man flees the Burger Joint, leaving a trail of fries, ketchup and shame in his wake. The music stops. Urulu dusts himself down. Flicking a single fry from his shoulder he sits down in the free chair and eats his burger & fries. Urulu mops his mouth with a clean serviette, gets up and throws a L50 note on the table. URULU That should cover the damage He walks out the door goes home and writes four tracks for Manucci's Mistress. THE END

Boysnoize Pres. - A Tribute To Dance Mania 2x12"

Retreat
24.04.2014

Retreat celebrates its fifth birthday with a very special edition of the infamous »Treats« series! Volume 5 is the label's first double vinyl in a carefully designed gatefold sleeve and features exclusive music from all the Retreat regulars as well as exciting new guests: Session Victim, Quarion, Iron Curtis, Mr Beatnick, Kim Brown, Jamie Lloyd and many more. »Treats Vol. 5« is a fantastic collection of tracks that stands on its own as compilation while offering some of the most heartfelt House music for 2014 and beyond. »Treats Vol. 5« begins with Jamie Lloyd's »Spiro Hustle«, a slo-mo burner that will definitely put this talented Australian native back in the limelight after a few years of radio
silence. Retreat's hottest property, Session Victim, are next up to bat with the dancefloor-approved »Much Too Strong« which sees them experimenting with percussive instruments while keeping their funk firmly in the pocket. The back-to-basics rawness of »Co Co Jam Boo« from Frank Music's Johannes Albert closes the A-side with a bassline that will stay in your head long after the needle hits the run-out groove. Flip the record over for Reverend G's »Pam's Cleavage«. The secretive priest is on a mission to save lost souls and his jazz-fueled dancefloor offering should motivate everyone to attend service at the Church Of The Lord Jack in Neukölln! »I Am Batman« from deep house heroes Kim Brown is an emotive ride through Gotham city. It's another fine example of the duo's faultless artistry and closes the
first chapter of »Treats Vol. 5« in a delightful way.Quarion introduces Retreat's first ever C-Side with »Enter Coordinates«, a bass-heavy yet uplifting track that promises to reach the confines of the galaxy with the help of gorgeous chords and a freaky arpeggio. Mr Beatnick follows up with the acid-tainted »Hold On To Your Dreams«. ...

Oskar Offermann & Edward - Verses

Oskar Offermann&Edward

Verses

12inchTHEMA036
Thema
15.07.2013

Oskar Offermann and his frequent collaborator and label mate Edward are two of the brightest rising stars in contemporary deep house music.
As head of the esteemed WHITE imprint, Offermann has an envious catalog spread across his own label, Aim, and Japan's storied Mule Musiq; Edward has mostly confined his releases to WHITE apart from a single drop on the mysterious Giegling, and some outstanding remixes on other powerhouse labels. Since their appearance in 2007, the pair of Berliners has only one collaboration record between them in spite of a close association, large individual discographies, and frequent pairings behind the decks. It is thus with great ceremony that THEMA announces their North American vinyl debut with the four-track EP, Verses.

We've been following Oskar and Edward for quite some time now, and even given our familiarity with their music, the ominous, shadowy chug of the intro track 'What Have We Become', is a contrast to the studied, Smallville-esque deep house that they're better known for. Aside from a lonely keyboard melody and an occasionally- comprehensible monologue low in the mix, the throbbing bass and druggy feel of the opener are left remarkably alone for the duration. 'Paranoid' is similarly darkened,a slowed-down, droning house piece that begins in unnerving, acidic ambience and steadily brightens by its end as more traditional deep house melody enters in the pads. Two contrasting versions of 'Sunrise' fill the second side: the first an old-school leaning minimal acid track, and the second an 'Underwater Dub' that's unexpectedly the most extroverted of the four. The repeating sequence of the original version is echoed in a high-pitched acid line that slowly changes timbre over the duration, with the only major shift occurring at the midpoint with the addition of a single-syllable vocal sample. It's heady stuff best suited for deep afterhours but unashamedly tailored for the floor. Centering itself around crunchy, slowly jacking percussion, the haunting acid takes center stage for the dub mix, and again vocal samples provide a subtle impetus and change while the circling drums power to the end.

Surely this is music whose origins are found in unending Berlin nights, but we at THEMA are proud to bring it across the Atlantic for new ears. Here or there, Oskar and Edward's talents stand unquestioned and their reputations entirely earned.

Firm fixtures of the underground, Gran Canarias's finest Hanfry Martinez & Javier Carballo join forces to suitably release their 'Vamos Mi Niño EP' on the unstoppable One Records. With two seamless cuts of driving deep house, plus on point remixes from Matthew Styles, jozif and Jack Wickham it's guaranteed to be a hit.

Knowing exactly what works on the dance floor, Overall Music co-founders Hanfry Martinez and Javier Carballo get straight to the point with title track 'Vamos Mi Niño'- deep, driving and seductively delicious with heaps of groove and sonic mischief. James Fox - Holding On

Holding On

NEEDWANT
09.12.2013

Newcomer to the label, James Fox makes his stamp on Needwant with the sensational 'Holding On' featuring the smooth and soulful voice of Cardiff's Vanity Jay.

James displays his diversity by delivering two versions of the track. The 'NYC Mix ' is a clear tribute to the old sounds of Henry Street Music and Strictly Rhythm aimed directly at the dance-floor incorporating some clever piano play against a rolling bass and kick. The 'Slow Jam Mix' is more of a contemporary piece of electronic music and rides a more subtle flow where a broken beat is held together with warm pads and a thick sub heavy bass-line.

Wolf Music's Medlar takes the reins on the remix front, using unmistakable old school elements on a impressively fresh tip. He completes the perfect package with his deep and flawless 'Dub' version making this release one not to miss and yet another fine release by the Needwant team.
