Alfie - Uncomfortably Numb / About Midday

Blah Blah Blah are having a bit of a break through year with sets at Glade & EXIT Festival confirmed, and their labels most recent release from Blacksmif gathering support from a number of respected sources, among which Disclosure, South London Ordnance, BrEaCh, Mary Anne Hobbs, Laurent Garnier, Audiojack, XLR8R, and Beatportal can now be considered keen listeners. Their 5th release looks set to further establish the labels growing reputation with 2 tracks of deep techno inspired house from 17 yr old music enthusiast Alfie. Born in the village of Oxted, home to a number of electronic dignitaries, Alfie has been raised on a balanced diet of Garage, Dubstep, Jungle, DNB, and Hip Hop which he has further infused with his personal love for old school Ska and Jazz. Taking key elements from each of these styles Alfies music is deftly relevant in your ear and on the floor. Lead track Uncomfortably Numb is a high energy throbbing slice of techno laced deep house, with a reverberating bassline driving an almost industrial main hook, whilst layers of clinical percussion and pads snap and swirl throughout the mix. About Midday punches through the enveloping gloom with an inescapable rave inspired main hook which intensifies the tracks pulsating wall of manufactured sounds. Having already played at Fabric aged 16 and with a number of shows pencilled for 2012, including his Glade debut and Eastern Electrics festival, this double a-side is set to eclipse the work of a number of his more senior peers.

Felizol - Our Team Never Won

Felizol comes with his 3rd e.p for Ntrop recordings.
'Our Team Never Won' of 3 tracks, attempts to bridge experimental hardware music with programmed club-oriented grooves.
Randomness and roughness straggle with elegance and balance. 'Our Team Never Won' is a deep techno song with foggy vocals, aggressive kicks, distorted bass and side-chained melodies.
'11 Years' minimize latin harmonies and guitar timbres while the dry house beat and the warm poly-analogs follow the repetitious vocals. The Promise is an experimental dub with jazz fragments and minor piano chords constructed around the field recording of a Finish lunatic old man talking to himself.

DiKSO Start 2012 with a stunning remix 12 !

Welcome to Dikso's unbelievable before-and-after-show. Four contestants and four remix teams, four original stories
that had to be continued and four results that had to be pressed on vinyl.

A1 / Autodeep & Romorri - Make You Mine (KRL Remix)
I'm gonna make you mine, I'm gonna make you mine... That's what Romorri said on Super Sound Single #4. And KRL,
well known from the almighty Wolf Music Recordings label, beams him in a situation that made all dreams come true.
The courtship has succeeded and Romorri, Autodeep & KRL are going mad on it. Definitely the most crazy piece of
house music Dikso has ever released!

A2 / Larse - So Much Fun (Roberto Rodriguez Remix)
With 'So Long' Larse is in everybody's record case, Traktor playlist or download queue at the moment. On Dikso's fifth
Super Sound Single he delivered with 'So Much Fun' his probably most disco- and funk-influenced track for years.
Roberto Rodriguez from Finland added some straightness and a cool nordic attitude. So much rolling...

B1 / Duff Disco - I Won't Forget (Homework Perspective)

Also more straightness for Duff Disco. Homework from Amsterdam touched his original in a very respectful way and
present their deep and dope dancefloor perspective on Duff Disco's original.

B2 / soho808 - Turning Slow feat. Lydia Caesar (Daniel Solar & Andi de Luxe Remix)
The hosts of Dikso take the back seat called B2. They sent Lydia and the boys from soho808 to the classic NY house
scene before KBE Giuliani cleaned the city...

Rekids
27.07.2012

Home to a selection of the globes most cutting edge talent, the Rekids imprint is proud to present the debut full EP from one of the scene heroes in Toronto, Nathan Barato. Backed by remixes from Oliver $ and masked talent 808 Fake, 'Back Up Queen' is set to burn through dancefloors with its pumping old school drive and rough edged soul. Featuring a sample from a late 70s classic and some 'Jack Pot' reverb, chopped and scattered over a rumbling acidic bassline, the original 'Back Up Queen' is a proper workout for the floor with warehouse vibes all over and thick, heavy drums immersed in analogue warmth. Delivering some seriously chunky percussion in his remix, Berlin born and raised Oliver $ puts all emphasis on the rhythmic groove, forgoing some of the sampling and merging tribal drums with the spoken words and deep stabs. Oliver was one of the biggest selling artists of 2011 with various Beatport number ones and smashing it on the end of year charts. Third up on remix duty, a new and unidentified Rekids artist, 808 Fake, strips 'Back Up Queen' to a naked snare allowing the rest to blend in a backdrop of analogue fuzz underneath the understated pulse of the bassline.

Reese / Chez Damier - Kms 25th Anniversary Classics - Vinyl Sampler 1

2012 sees Detroit label, KMS Records, celebrating it's 25th Anniversary.

Founded in 1987, by Kevin Maurice Saunderson, his first release was 'Triangle Of Love' produced by, 'Kreem', (just one of his many guises), little did Saunderson know, at that time, that two and a half decades later, he would still be releasing music on his KMS label.

Let's go back to the beginning... Born in Brooklyn in 1964, Saunderson moved to the picturesque Detroit suburb of Belleville, when he was nine, a different world to the urban decay of the city itself.

Saunderson has an enviable dual reputation. To the dance cognoscenti he's one of the 'Belleville Three,' (with Saunderson being the 'Elevator', Juan Aktkins being the 'Originator' and Derrick May being the 'Innovator'), the trio of friends invented Detroit Techno.

The trio met at Belleville High School where, Saunderson befriended Juan Atkins and Derrick May, who introduced him to the eclectic post-disco playlists of Detroit radio DJ Charles 'The Electrifying Mojo' Johnson. ' Johnson played disco, funk, Prince, Parliament/Funkadelic, Kraftwerk, the B52's and Tangerine Dream, to name just a few. Saunderson already had a serious love for music, but he didn't realise he was going to produce music, until then.

In his first year at East Michigan University, where he studied telecommunications, he gave up football to become a DJ himself. He took inspiration from visits to Larry Levan's Paradise Garage in New York and Frankie Knuckles' Warehouse and Music Box in Chicago. Saunderson, Atkins and May, played at campus parties, until setting up their own club in Detroit, the fabled Music Institute.

Of the 'Belleville Three' Atkins was the first to make a record, with electro group Cybotron's 'Alleys of Your Mind' in 1981, then May, with Rhythim is Rhythim's 'Nude Photo' in 1987. Inspired by his friends, Saunderson bought some basic equipment and made his own debut in 1987 with 'Triangle Of Love'. 'I just had a good ear and a good heart for music,' he says. 'Juan Atkins led me into DJing which led me into making extra beats to play in my set. Then I started learning how to play basslines, putting a lot of work in, just elevating it from there'

Undeniably, Saunderson is a gifted producer (going under guises such as Reese, E-Dancer, Tronikhouse and Reese Project), remixer and a tireless international DJ. To lovers of great pop music he's also one third of Inner City, who made regular visits to the Top 20 in the late 80s with jubilant hits like 'Big Fun' and 'Good Life', paving the way for hundreds of underground-to-chart crossover records to come.

On a visit to England in 1988 Saunderson realised that a mythology had built up around the 'Belleville Three'. To his even greater surprise, 'Big Fun' became not just a massive club record but a pop hit. He also helped to revolutionise remixing when he worked on 'We Know It' by Wee Papa Girl Rappers. Over the following decade Saunderson would continue to produce imaginative remixes for the likes of New Order, Pet Shop Boys, The Shamen, Paula Abdul and the Lighthouse Family.

Even whilst travelling the globe, djing or touring with Inner City, Saunderson continued to produce and release not only his own tracks on his KMS label (with tracks such as 'The Sound' by Reese, 'Rock To The Beat' by Reese, 'Truth Of Self Evident' by Reese & Santonio, 'Let's, Let's, Let's, Let's Dance' by Keynotes and 'Colour Of Love' by The Reese Project), but he also released tracks by other up and coming artists, releasing classic underground gems, such as 'Flash' by Fix, 'Can You Feel It' by Chez Damier, 'Soundscape' by Kosmic Messenger, 'Definition Of Love' by Kaos and 'Use Me' by R-Tyme. The list is endless.

Fast forward to 2012 and it's hard to believe that KMS is still releasing records. With such a long history, what better way to celebrate than to release a special CD Boxset. The 'KMS 25th Anniversary Classics' will be released on CD, Digital (and for those vinyl collectors, there will be 6 x 12' Samplers). Each format includes a plethora of gems which have been released on KMS over the last 25 years.

KMS may be celebrating it's 25th Anniversary, but there's no slowing down for Kevin Saunderson. He's still producing, remixing and djing (all over the world). Here's to the next 25 years....

No Use is the first collaboration between long time friends and house music veterans Steve Conry and Iain MacPherson.
And their fine debut 'No Use' is the first release on what promises to be a quality outlet 'MAGIC FEET'

Iain is perhaps known best as Funky Transport and has released records on labels such as 20/20 Vision, Playhouse, Classic, Chez and Brique Rouge.
Steve previously ran The Ten Lovers Music label , has released records as Community Housin' and was also resident at Manchester Deep House night 'Hot Water Music'.

The original mix is a warm, mid-tempo, acid laced House throbber, perfect for those early hours sessions.
Taking care of the remixes are Craig Bratley (Instruments Of Rapture, Foto Recordings) who amps up the atmospherics, makes the whole thing a little chunkier while adding some space to the whole affair.
Finally OOFT! step up with a rolling and mesmerizing electronic House workout

High quality and a stunning debut

22.05.2012

Retrofit is proud to announce the appearance of two of our favourite artists making their Retrofit debuts and stepping up to remix two classics from our back catalogue.
First up we have Polish duo and Retrofit buddies Catz N Dogz taking on one of the best known of our tracks 'Add Arp' from the Retrofit # 1 EP first released back in 2010. Weaving their trademark sound over the distinctive original bass line and adding a killer trumpet driven breakdown the mix is deep while retaining an underlying punch in the clubs, a perfect end of the night track for us!
On the B side Berlin based Iron Curtis, best known for his work with the superb Retreat label, gives his interpretation of String Theory from Retrofit # 4. Subtle hints of the original strings and a reworking of the bass come together with his raw deep house production to great effect.

Deep Space Orchestra - Mongolian Nights, Krl Rmx

There's no need to do a big introduction of Deep Space Orchestra. Si Murray and Chris Barker have releases on a number of heavyweight labels (e.g. Delusions of Grandeur or Use of Weapons) and regular guest appearances at club nights and radio shows throughout the UK and rest of the world. Their second EP for Quintessentials is some raw and analogue business topped with the DSO funk! Wolf Music hot shot KRL adds some piano and old school power on his remix and we must admit we're delighted!

Thanks for purchasing a real copy!
