Freerange welcomes Italian via Berlin producer/DJ/label boss Enzo Elia for his debut on the label entitled The Lost Guitar Tapes. Enzo is someone who has been releasing consistently great music for many years, although
often hidden behind a myriad of pseudonyms and underground imprints. For starters he's responsible for a mysterious yet established and very excellent edits label as well as being a member of Balearic Gabba Sound System alongside Bjorn Torske amongst others. Following the philosophy of this collective, Enzo is also producing lovingly and respectfully created re-edits of long lost techno and house tracks as well as many new tunes
for influential labels including Golf Channel and Compost.
But for now we turn to The Lost Guitar Tapes and specifically the original mix of Drifting which opens up the release with a brilliant tension builder. A rolling bassline, crisp minimal drums and a subtly Middle Eastern-influenced melodic line give just a hint of mysticism to this jewel of a track.
For the remix we have none other than the Tel Aviv via Berlin producer Moscoman, fresh from his brilliant debut LP on ESP Institute and releases on Eskimo and his own Disco Halal label. Moscoman's organic, percussion- heavy sound and Middle Eastern roots make him the perfect choice to take
on Drifting and we couldn't have wished for a better outcome. He manages to inject his own identity to the track with newly recorded live guitar and bass parts and taking in elements of techno, new wave and house, he's created a sublime piece of dancefloor drama. Finally we have an alternate Dub version which lays down a firmer four on the floor, extra percussion and dubby stabs for a more driving atmospheric club tool.

Obakodomo (Au Balcon Du Monde) is a soundtrack I created for a piece of contemporary dance, performed by two dancers for a young audience from the age of 4. It is the story of an imaginary journey in Antartica where two explorers go on an adventure. They encounter a colony of penguins and will progressively learn to understand their habits and respect their environment. Essentially, Au Balcon Du Monde is a metaphor of how to exist next to each other, how to share a territory, how to learn to live together and share resources.
The scenography and stage accessories were designed in a minimalistic and non-obvious form to leave all the space for imagination. The penguins were made of translucent material to provide light effects and were programmed to move in a swaying motion, allowing interaction with the dancers and the music. LED system could be wireless piloted.
With the soundtrack, I wanted to create an atmosphere that would immediately transport the children into this terra nova - a poetical space, like a cold sphere, where the strange meets the frightening and the playful. Translating the immense vs the small, the far-off vs the near, the collective vs the individual, the strange vs the familiar or the cold vs the heat. My intention was to follow the thread of the story in a narrative, yet non-caricatural way. Music for children doesn't have to be 'childish'. Children love to be scared or even just challenged. They love to love and react instantly to what they hear through their emotions. Ultimately, the soundtrack aims to provide different levels of 'reading' so that it becomes something more universal. So we, adults, just have to accept the invitation.

Amsterdam-based producer Julien Chaptal delivers another peculiar & consistent EP on FFR !

Gilb'R Gt'R is a great techhouse-tool with a punchy bass-line and psyche-ish atmospheric background. A weapon to wake up the audience when people get tired on the floor!
Ho Bina is a deeper and dirtier vision of what groove can be! Chaptal flirts with acid in a very stylish way and invites the listener to enter his own personal sweaty naughty techno fantasma.
Wabi Sabi sets the balance between Gilb'R and Ho Bina: a psychedelic twist over a bright techy groove and a powerful funky bass-line. Smooth and dance-ish AF.
Lauhaus' remix of Wabi Sabi crosses the border of acid house with a pinch of fresh groove that brings this version its originality and hypnotic flair. Close your eyes and let it be.

Paul Hester created his cult Moon Music label in 1997 as a portal for his own productions and sounds. The label was short-lived, with only 3 releases in it's catalogue, all produced by Hester himself. Those few releases on Moon are now highly sought after among House and Techno aficionados who are forever seeking that deeper groove. The interesting part of this story, beyond the amazing music that was released, is that there are many other tracks that never saw the light of the day, thus leaving the full Moon story untold.

The 'Electric Wig EP' was the first release on the label and is here in fully remastered reissue form, with all racks lovingly transferred from Paul Hester's private, personal DAT stash. Classic, deep UK Techno sounds from the pre-millenium era, re-presented for the first time for 2017's dancefloors. Across these 2 tracks and 2 lock grooves we are treated to a sound that is timeless and will undoubtedly gain Paul Hester new fans while reminding those of us who were there in the late 90's about his subtle and uniquely fresh production style.

Following two monumental releases on Crosstown Rebels, Serge Devant is back onboard the label to deliver one of his best to date. The immensely sensual Thinking Of You sees him team up once again with Damiano and Camille Safiya with invigorating remixes from heavy-weights Reboot and Art Department.
Serge Devant has been turning heads since the seminal Fearing Love feat. Camille Safiya dropped in 2015 on Emerald City, picking up the Best Music Video award at the 2016 Hollywood Independent Reel Film Festival. Serge reveals 'it was so nice to have the same company back in the studio to work on more magic!' Thinking Of You breathes the air of summer with its blissfully smooth chords and deep hypnotic tones it's another winner from Serge.
Welcomed back onto Crosstown Rebels, No.19 boss Jonny White aka Art Department delivers a raw, techno cut in his Modular Perspective remix. Jonny has seen almost unparalleled success in the world of dance music and continues to be at the forefront of the industry with a huge focus on his record labels and his in-demand label showcases that take the name of his vinyl only label, Social Experiment.
Frankfurt's Reboot brings his flavour to the release with intricate percussion and deep underlying pads. Growing up in Sven Vath's Omen Club, the talented musician now spearheads the 'new sound of Frankfurt' and has released on a wealth of labels like Circus, Moon Harbour, Cadenza and Get Physical.

The seventh EP from The Untold Stories, is a collaborative project, beats and keys. The beats coming from Nektar Agu, and the piano from Matias Zurita, aka Cossmos. Both artists from Buenos Aires, and they obviously found a great harmony for this project, because the result is very nice indeed. A1 is a special work, entitled 'Seiya'. It's an enlivening track of distinct attitude, the flow is strong, the percussion powerful, and combined dextrously with the beautiful keys from Cossmos. The effect is very inspiring, very mental - deep and evocative, and very enjoyable. This epic work then get's a remix by Archipel label boss Pheek, who keeps all that made the original magical, and crafts a refined 8 min remix, if you liked the first track then this will be a very awesome further development. The EP is then concluded by a 7 min work by Nektar Agu and Cosmos, this time a more upbeat and trippy affair, again it's beats and keys in a cool harmony, again done with considerable skill, and is a nice end to a fine record.

The Finnish dumpster raider is back with three loud, old school jams.

Some producers regard dance music production as a way of obtaining the tools they need. Others understand creation as a reflection of their vital path. Cleveland clearly belongs in the second group. When talking with Andrea about his music, it becomes obvious that the emotional circumstances that surround each track always outweigh the execution of a purely technical process. "Payback" was born the day before Cleveland's first live set it Brussels two years ago. No wonder it sounds like a call to arms. "Armando The Lizard" has a much more looser feeling. It doesn't pursue an answer, just a little bit of warmth. Created in a small cold studio during the Belgian winter, it's lush and playful as a summer afternoon near the Pacific. Completing the package, illustrious swedes Samo DJ & Pedrodollar join forces to give "Payback" a groove boost and a touch of their trademark quirkiness. Jaime Read is something of an unsung UK legend. An original, unique producer who has been making noise in the underground in his own way, emanating from the South coast of England, since the mid 90's. 'Relief Sevensixty' is a collection of Read's rarer tracks that have appeared in a roundabout way, on a legendary Chicago label in a tale that has by now been widely documented. But that's a story for another time. The real focus here is the music, of course. On top of running his highly respected Hope Works event series in the North of England, Lo Shea's reputation as a producer is unquestionable, with recent years seeing the Sheffield-based artist appear on credible imprints such as Phonica, Never Learnt, SZE, Transit and Dext Recordings.Metallic percussion is blended with growling bass in 'Let's Roll' before introducing spooky synths to generate a mesmerising aesthetic. Michal Zietara the Polish heartthrob turned Bavarian hiker is joined by Voe the mastermind behind Suxul, together they merge to create a drop beat tune. Homeboy's Hadi is the Croatians influence by the Arab World in a culturally appropriate track that makes you wonder the streets of Damascus, leading to Mehmet Aslan our very own Sultan of beats making a sandstorm with this timeless piece.

Unusually for a record (for me, at least), 'Constants' collects tracks written in four very different moments in time: some are recent - so recent I've only had the opportunity to play them out just a handful of times - while others are over one year old. I really wish the story behind this EP would be a bit more interesting so this text could completely blow your mind but I'm afraid there were no dragons, no sex, no drugs and definitely no rock'n'roll involved. All four were mostly produced by me while sipping coffee and wearing boxer shorts in front of a computer. I could somehow try to describe the music on here but it would probably take less for you to give it a listen. However, if you happen to be one of the humans that prefer reading about music, you might want to wait a little bit longer: hopefully some smart blogger will skip through the SoundCloud previews for you and describe them in detail using words he learned a few minutes prior to posting it on the internet. Anyway, I'm really happy to see these finally out, especially on a label I have always looked up to like Vakant. I really used to think Smoke, Kaden and Ozer were aliens at some point. Hopefully you will enjoy this music as much as I loved writing and playing it out. T PS: I was kidding about the blogger thing. Bloggers, I love you.

Middlesbrough's Luna Records prepare for the summer with the 'Preserve The Light' EP, a collaborative release from Luna artist Brett Jacobs and Kabuto & Koji man Patrice Meiner that also features a rare remix outing from Mountain People's Rozzo. True to Luna Records form, this EP from East Londoner, Jacobs, and Berlin resident Costa Rican, Meiner, is all about subtle, trippy grooves. The original of 'Preserve The Light' is a dubbed out, low slung and powerfully bass-driven slice of house that wraps itself around a drawn out vocal sample.

Jacobs goes it alone for the second cut on 'Preserve The Light', the measured modern houser 'El Hadu'. Deep, textured and punctuated with a tapestry of strange, out of place sounds it's a textbook exercise in moody, hypnotic writing.
Rozzo delivers the remix of the title track and does so in his inimitable, heavily shuffled house style. Pacey yet slow burning, it's yet another piece of fine work from the Swiss producer.

'Miles Apart', another solo cut from Jacobs, closes the EP and provides a suitably meaty parting shot that blends old school vox hits with punchy contemporary house vibes.

Following recent releases from Vakula, Alex Danilov and Andrey Zots, Arma turns its focus towards the unique, transcendental sound of Hypnobeat. The project has its roots in the DIY industrial scene of Frankfurt in the early '80s, spearheaded by Perlon affiliate James Dean Brown (Narcotic Syntax) in collaboration with artists including Tobias Freund, Victor Sol and Pietro Insipido. Aside from a few underground cassette releases, the project was mainly a live venture made up of polyrhythmic workouts on an array of drum machines and effects units, long before the practice became so fashionable. After many years in the wilderness, Hypnobeat received a shot in the arm thanks to the increased interest in obscure tapes from the early industrial period. Given her own modern explorations of raw drum machine science, Brown invited Helena Hauff to join him in performing Hypnobeat live with a setup that revolves around three 808s and an assortment of other rhythm boxes, a formidable arsenal of effects, and no preconceived plan. As well as shows at Les Siestes Electroniques and CTM (where the duo shook the walls of Berghain), Brown and Hauff were invited to perform for the Save Festival at Arma17 in Moscow in March 2015. It is from this set that the material on Ritual Fire Dance is gathered, aptly titled as the interlocking percussive rumble takes on a cyclical, tribal quality as aligned with traditional music as it is with contemporary electronics. The recording has been edited into two sections that adorn each side of the 12" peppered with enthusiastic approval from the crowd to affirm the intensity of the moment this incendiary music was performed live. As well as the widespread vinyl release there will be a limited cassette featuring the entire unedited performance, for those seeking the full hit of the trip. 9 years on from their inaugural release from back in December 2004, Saved Records have now reached their landmark 100th release. Ever since SAVED001, Skylark presents Buick Project - "Chancer / Drop The Beat" Saved have stood as a benchmark for quality whilst nurturing new talent and pushing the envelope for electronic music as a whole. Celebrating the achievement in style, the Maidstone based imprint will be bringing together a mind-blowing collection of the label's favourite producers and DJ's, covering all aspects of the musical spectrum; from deep house to peak-time techno and will be available on limited vinyl samplers.

Saved 100 will feature original material from label bosses Nic and Mark Fanciulli alongside Saved mainstays Robert Dietz, Philip Bader, Stacey Pullen, Gary Beck and Alex Tepper. Mouth-watering remixers include Danny Daze, Frankie Knuckles, Joris Voorn and Adam Beyer with the likes of Subb-an, Spencer Parker, Terrence Parker and Mark Broom all also set to feature in a compilation that displays both the depth and dexterity of Saved Record's impressive back catalogue. The compilation will also come with an exclusive mix from Mark Fanciulli, serving up a label perspective from right within the eye of the Saved nucleus.

The Saved 100 tour began at Output in New York on January 3rd before heading off to Mexico for a stellar Saved showcase at this year's BPM festival. Continuing until April, it will then encompass shows in Tel Aviv, Dublin, Montpellier, Munich, Basel, Barcelona, Chicago, Miami, Detroit, Antwerp, Copenhagen, Toronto and many more.

Following their eponymously titled 2016 arrival on Midland's Graded imprint, as well as a recent followup on Dark Entries, Solitary Dancer return to the label on which they made their debut. Once again, this three-track 12' blends electro, ambient, and acid to superb, undeniably modern effect. With a running time of nearly 12-minutes, the title track 'Transmitting To Heaven' is an ambitiously sweeping cut that subtly moves through its various shades, from electro and acid, to strobe-lit 90s rave. The B-side kicks off with 'Birth of Saturn', built around an arpeggiating synth that shifts and morphs throughout the track as the intensity ascends. The 12' closes off with 'At The End Of The Corridor Of Love, A Loss', a slow burning ambient piece that is as sombre as it is cinematic.

After the success of the first A-sides compilation in 2012, Adam Beyer has decided its time to release another. With Adam's stature steadily growing as one of the leading talents in the Techno scene and the rise of Drumcode, the standard of demo's that have been sent to Adam have been top notch. Adam has now decided to release two compilations with 10 tracks each, consisting of tracks that Adam has tried and tested. There are also new artists that have been invited to release on Drumcode for this compilation and others who are a staple in Drumcode's core family. Combining both old and new talents Drumcode have come up with something unique and distinctive to make this two-part compilation something extra special.

Mark Ernestus dubs Equiknoxx to the moon and back for DDS with an irresistibly percolated take on Congo Get Slap backed with a jaw-dropping, Basic Channel style version of Flagged Up. We hardly need to stress that this one's a doozy.
As a big fan of Equiknoxx's teched-out take on up-to-the-second dancehall, it was perhaps inevitable that the venerable Ernestus, owner of Berlin's Hardwax and one half of the legendary Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound, as well as his most recent work with the brilliant Ndagga Rhythm Force, would eventually cross paths with Jamaica's Gavsborg and Time Cow, two of the most exciting producers to emerge from JA this decade.
On both remixes the past informs the present in timeless fashion. The cloud-bursting chords and spaghetti western-esque tropes of Equiknoxx's Congo Get Slap are deftly diffused in the echo chamber, giving the bass an elasticated recoil and sublimating the chords to scudding, skywards dabs with weightless effect for the dancers.
Flipside, Ernestus takes that aspect one step further, distilling the kinetic dub futurism of
Someone Flagged It Up!! into a maze of diaphanous dub chords and rolling, sunken subs that inarguably measures up among his strongest post-Basic Channel works.
Like Shackleton's dub of The Stomper by Cutty Ranks for DDS, the results here triangulate deep-rooted connections between Jamaica, Lancashire and Berlin, speaking to a mutual respect and reverence of style and pattern which has heavily resonated from sub-tropical Kingston into much colder, European climes over successive generations.

He has worked and collaborated with respected techno artists such as Woody McBride, Mike Henk, Tim Taylor, Auto Kinetic, Damon Wild, Biochip C., DJ Hyperactive, Dr Walker, Brixton, Andre Estrada, DJ Slip and many more.

Five years deep into the game, all nine lives fully intact: Utrechtian feral feline Larry De Kat prowls his way onto Pets... And we really don't need to tell you how purrrrfectly apt this debut union is. Fresh from launching his own Katnip imprint (and putting the final touches on a hush-hush disco edit series), Pets have managed to prise four of his finest, broadest creations from his creative claws. Each one floor-bound, each one backing up the hype he's enjoyed from the likes of Axel Boman, Mark E and Laurent Garnier, each one making us feel like cats who got the creamiest of creams... 'I Know You Can Hear Me' takes the lead on a more direct tip that you might expect from De Kat. Big pumps wrapped in a fine vibe balance of Detroit and Parisian house textures, but done with Larry's signature dubby, jacking style, it's the perfect paws-sitive statement of intent. Slinking deeper into the EP, 'Naakte Groove' lives up to its nude name with a lean-but-warm bass riff that purrs with finesse around a straight-up strutting drum arrangement. So much fun in such a tight, detailed groove, you'll want this on loop forever. 'Amlou' stalks up behind with dusty, thumping charm. Rolling and scratching like it was 20 years younger, there's an innate physicality in the drums that snaps you out when the big disco hook rides in from nowhere. Finally we hit 'She Doesn't'. The dubbiest groove of the set, all eyes are on that bulbous sub, rippling synths and precision tuned snare shot. Hypnotic, heavy, unhurried and heads down... These sounds are fur real. Like all the best stray cats, expect Larry to return to Pets as and when he pleases.

Work Them Records founder Spencer Parker presents the first in a trilogy of releases as BROTHERHOOD. The BROTHERHOOD moniker was originally coined as a way of differentiating Parker's Berghain appearances from his Panorama Bar appearances, hence why this series under the alias will be concentrated on techno. Thudding kicks and eerie atmospherics pave the way in Chapter One - a physical techno number that warps and changes throughout its almost 8 minute duration.
Chapter Two then employs a twisted melody that works alongside a remorseless low-end throb until Chapter Three concludes the package with punchy percussion and echoing effects.

Leave all the preconceptions behind and engage with the sound for a moment. Two spaced out sides which drag into a unreal act of travelling, through the dense basslines and visionary synths. Going through both sides will take you to a well aranged after party mode, still going forward in a very solid and well expressed rhythm. This release easily flows into the entourage and becomes something memorable.
