Almost two years ago we reissued DJ Boom 'Kinda Kickin' with an extra Efdemin remix on CURLE-P06. Because y'all loved it so much, we decided to reissue two more Matthew Herbert deep house goodies. After the very well received Linkwood remix of 'See You On Monday', it's now time for one of Herbert's biggest records; 'Deeper', from the iconic "Part Two" EP, 20 years old but still timeless! On remix duties is Basic Soul Unit, who saw his album released on Dekmantel end of last year. We knew he was good, but his remix exceeded each and any of our expectations. What a bomb!!! First 300 on marbled vinyl.

House Of Black Lanterns is the latest musical project from Dylan Richards, the man behind the King Cannibal and Zilla monikers (on the Ninja Tine and Warp Records labels respectively). With an album and two singles out in 2013 on the highly respected Houndstooth label, Richards returns with a deadly EP for Hypercolour, backed with a very fine Mosca remix.
In its Original Mix, 'The Smack' is a dense and atmospheric production, the slow pace and chugging bassline evoking shades of early Chicago house but with a thoroughly modern UK twist. Filled with tension and drama, 'The Smack' is a big sounding record that cuts through so many genre sounds from dub techno to dubstep but sounds entirely individual and unique.
Mosca steps up to the remix, following on from the launch of his new label Not So Much, and remixes for Alland Byallo and Sweatshop Boys. Taking 'The Smack' up to an altogether skanking tempo, Mosca plummets the Basic Channel school of sound for the aptly titled 'Dread At The Controls' version. Spring reverb all over the joint as Mosca works the droning synths and fire & brimstone vibes over a watertight, dub heavy workout. 'Grey Leather Glass' takes things up a notch, continuing the HOBL theme of dark & shadowy techno sounds with heaps of drama and sinister twists and turns, like some cinematic score to a Wes Craven slasher epic, and '8 Million Stories' cuts up vocal chops, finger snaps and piano stabs over a brooding house production. Deliciously dark music from HOBL here....
J. Wiltshire follows up 2013's Hypercolour single, 'How It Is' with an offering that's quite a leap from his seductive deep house sound, gracing us with a hugely mature sounding slice of brooding electro body popping bizzness!
In its Original Mix, 'False Awakening' opens with delicate pizzicato synth plucks over a deadly electro-tinged beat that gets warped and crushed as dense sweeping strings and digital glitches come tumbling down on the unfolding arrangement. Like a neo-classical Underground Resistance, a funky as you like bass-line heralds in a discordant and haunting vocal line, which really ramps up the melancholic mood. All the while, the futuristic beat really propels this track along at an urgent pace. On his 'Clubby Tool Mix', Wiltshire digs into the mechanics of the track, slapping resonators on the drums and further manipulating the sound with some clever studio trickery.
Tuff City Kids, AKA Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer, come fresh from singles on Permanent Vacation and remixes for Numbers, Crème Organisation and Visionquest with their take on 'False Awakening'. TCK come out guns a blazing with a heavy kick and abrasive hats, looping a fragment on the vocal whilst the stabby bass and 909 hats set the heady vibe here. A growling synth line unfurls and the remix pounds hard and heavy, a little melodic organ line its only respite from the pummeling groove. The duo throw in a beats mix, the 'Dub Copy', just like the old days, as a little tool to keep us all happy, job done!

'Rosenhan Experiment' (named after David Rosenhan's famous study to determine the validity of psychiatric diagnosis, published in 1973 under the title 'On being sane in insane places') takes us on another electro trip into the human mind with Paris The Black FU from Detroit Grand Pubahs once again making an appearance, on the track 'Losquato'.
The EP opens with the wonderfully shimmering 'Wenn' before Luxus Varta makes striking use of his background as a drummer on 'Lizzy'. 'Losquato' is a playful addition with stripped back rhythms under Paris' story telling that bemoans a man's work frustrations and resulting mental state ('I gave up therapy about a month ago. My therapist jumped out of a window'), while closer 'Tempsun' is almost melancholy in its measured minimalism.
Recommended for lovers of Drexciya and Dopplereffekt.

2015 has been a massive year for Hypercolour, with the label releasing a huge range of music from established names (Kerrier District & Luke Vibert, Seth Troxler, Roman Flugel) as well as up-and-comers of the underground music scene (Luca Lozano, A Sagittariun, House Of Black Lanterns). The eclecticism of the laberl knows no boundries, and so it's fitting to end the year with a killer EP from Modini. A collaborative project between techno visionary, Neil Landstrumm, and fellow Scottish producer, Hostage, Modini plunder the deeper shades of techno and electro music, bringing with them years of musical nouse for labels like Peacefrog, Tresor, Origami Sound and Nightshifters. Previous Modini releases have appeared on the Dixon Avenue Basement Jams imprint.
'The Answer (Version)' touches on the classic side of electro, with the infectious "how do you get to sleep at night" vocal hook rolling over incessant bleeps and chugging 4x4 beats, coming over like a pitched down Relief Records cut for the modern age. Its Original Mix makes fine use of broken beats, twisting and loosening the other version whilst retaining the energy of the original.
The impressively titled 'Impressive Pineapple' ratchets up the tempo, rolling beats and head scrambling bleep-work tussles with a hefty bass line and choppy vocals. Final cut 'Saluting Magpies' features more bass line madness and drilling drums, imaginatively off the wall samples jab in between the spaces and we're shown a masterclass in forward thinking dance music from the Modini team.

There is a new label on the horizon and it's first imprint is all about warm heavy detroit influenced deep techno. Another Earth combines 2 acts together in a Split EP series who compliment each others sound. The A-side hosts the renowned US based producer, Myles Serge (MS - RE(FORM)), who, for these 2 tracks, let his machines run crazy beat patterns in a old school detroit techno vibe. The B-side features Dutch based duo Duijn and Douglas (Esther Duijn and Steady Douglas). Their stripped warm heavy padded deep techno influenced tracks are perfect for creating some heat on the dance floor and the B2, Stray, is driven by Berenice van Leer's lush intense voice.
Nico Purman returns to Vakant with his most technoid record since his 2009 VA025 Euphrasia EP. A cut 'The Bubble' reveals the direction Nico is taking with this EP. Contemporary techno with a classic touch and the distinctive twist that is characteristical for Purman's works. B-side 'Blow My Mind' slackens the pace a little bit and gives room for more trippy yet groovy moments on the floor later in the morning. Mind bending.

Quantum Entanglement is one of the strangest phenomena in the Universe, overcoming barriers of space and time and knitting the entire cosmos into an integrated whole. Fin Greenall (Fink, Sideshow) and myself Lee Jones (Hefner, MyMy) met at college in the early nineties and played a lot of chess to the soundtrack of Aphex Twin and Future Sound of London. Fin taught me the guitar. I taught Fin Cubase. We shared our first releases together as EVA on Kickin' Records, then Ninja Tune. I started a band, Hefner, while Fin was mainly a DJ. Then we switched. Fin became a singer-songwriter, I moved to Berlin and formed MyMy with Nick Höppner, then started to DJ. We followed our own paths which have often crossed, remixing each other's music, helping each other with our writing, and releasing on Aus Music (which Fin started with Will Saul), but we've always wanted to really collaborate again. Between my studio in Berlin, Fin's studio in Brighton, and various studios, hotels and airports around the world, that project has finally taken the shape of Quantum Entanglement. Two separate worlds linked by friendship and a feeling that goes back to those early days of ambient, dub, chess and incense, now made possible by the internet. Files, old tracks, samples and words are flying back and forth, eventually forming 2 versions of a song. Heads and Tails. Question and Response. Move and Counter-Move. The game has begun. Lee Jones, Berlin, October 2013

For everything there is a first time: making your first track, releasing a first record, and writing a press-sheet for the first time. One a bit more exciting then the other ;)) As words are not so important, and only the music counts, we still wanted to give you a bit more insight into our tracks. So here we go: 'Seven Changes' came after reading an article of Rudolph Steiner, a teacher of anthroposophy, we believed this suits well for our start as artists. Every Seven Years You Change. Most cells in your body are renewed over a period of time. Does your personality change, too ARE you the same person now that you were fifteen years ago In fact, are you the same person you were just seven years ago 'Moon Waltz' started out by messing around with several jazz samples, without having a real intension of making a track with it. After a while it sounded quite nice and eventually it came out as a sort of rhythm that formed the basics of it all. The name 'Moon Waltz' explains the atmosphere that surrounds the track, giving it a moody alienated feeling at some points.. For a track that's been made almost a year ago, it's very cool to finally see the light. If you're still awake after reading this we want to thank Mathias for his great remix and continuous support and for starting all this!

Buenos Aires based label Unlock Recordings kicks off 2016 with the first of a three Various Artist vinyl only series: Collaborations, a combination of some of the label's artists and friends who joined forces to put out some proper underground house and techno music.
This first release includes four tracks by argentinian heroes Leonel Castillo, Franco Cinelli, Fosky and Jorge Savoretti (featuring Romanian fellow Paco Wegmann).
'Vibraphonistix' is an exquisite peace of music that blends tripness with a refined bass line that makes clear Leonel Castillo's production abilities and dub influences.
Savoretti and Wegmann's 'Din Cartier' heats things up with its super solid groove and modulating synths. Definitely a peak time player.
On the flip, Fosky's 'Benefits' is an evolving, climatic techno track that creates the perfect con- text for Franco Cinelli's 'Mindout', a superb late night techno killer track that will cause some serious damage to the dance floor.
Art cover in all of the series by Argentinian artist Gisela Faure

SK 011, 444, Centralbron, Midsummer Night, Babar, Russian Folksong, Carbon Oxide, I Love Water, all those brilliant Tiga productions... We really don't know what else to say - just try to imagine the history and future of this dance music thing we're all involved in without Jesper Dahlbäck... Nah, rather not, right Being part of Jesper's discography is the greatest thing that has happened to Studio Barnhus up until now and these two tracks, Fransson and DX2 RMX, are up there with all those previously mentioned masterpieces.
Of course the big problem was perpetual drunkenness—people would drink themselves to death. I was born on October 4, 1990. It was a very interesting but critical time for Russia—a time of great change. The Soviet Union was no more, and old values were anathematized because of the reconstruction.
In my early teens no one seemed to understand me in this world (I thought), so I read Washington Irving novels and listened to The Cure. At around 20 years old I felt a real need to find myself, so I entered the directing department of the Moscow School of New Cinema. At the same time, electronic music fascinated me completely.
A small circle of my friends formed around a mutual interest in music. We always went to concerts together, of which were mostly interna- tional artists: Inga Copeland, DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad, Legowelt, Death Grips, Florian Kupfer, Dean Blunt, etc. It wasn't long until we organized the community and DIY record label known as John's King- dom. It's not only about music; it's also a channel for art, videos and lifestyle. Now it's the most alive and honest thing in Moscow.
My music is strongly inspired by Autechre, Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, but with the lyrics and mood of Mazzy Star. I admire con- temporaries Inga Copeland and Laurel Halo, however, my songs are more pop-leaning because of the powerful influence MTV had on my adolescence.
The sinister synths in 'Sgoraet'(Burning Down) are inspired by the otherworldliness of Russian winters. Russia in winter is a terrible thing, but it also has a strange romantic presence to it. The drum and bass coda emulates the feeling of impending death and transition to another state when winter is over one's shoulder.

Nincs, a Hungarian word roughly translating to there is no", is the debut EP of Kornél Kovács, one third of influential Stockholm label Studio Barnhus alongside Petter Nordkvist and Axel Boman. Kovács' latest outing Szikra struck a chord with lovers of quality house music worldwide and as 2014 came to a close it lingered on top of many a year-end-list. But the sheer beauty of Szikra was only the beginning. 2015 is set to be a monster year for Kovács and it all begins with Nincs EP. Leading track Nordic Rave 4 sets the ball rolling with hyper-edited vocals and rolling percussion shrouded in frosty atmospherics and rudebwoy soundbites. Don't sleep on the acidic bassline that sneaks up on the unsuspecting towards the end! Utopia, Ohio is like all the characters of 80s movie classic The Breakfast Club rolled into one modern house track: the pretty tenderness of The Princess, The Athlete's muscular effectiveness, the off-kilter weirdness of The Basket Case, IDM techniques worthy of The Brain and the smooth ruthlessness of The Criminal - jackin' for beats in dusty record bins all over the world. The grandiose pads and descending bassline of Tooth make up a track that is as imposing as dizzying. Slightly out-of-tune samples quiver like a struck drum - thoroughly processed and mangled through Kovács' mutated machine park. Closing track So So Solid surprises by *not* being the ultimate clash between Jermaine Dupree and Reebok-clad grime stylings, although Kovács could probably pull that off as well. Instead we get a beatless loopfest akin to The Field or Gas - pure angst-ridden bliss! Collaborating with studio wizard Matt Karmil has given these productions an exquisite aura depth. On Nincs, the idiosyncrasies of Kornél Kovács' work come into light, always finding the sweet spot between crazy, sexy and pretty damn cool.
feedbacks DJ: Auntie Flo: most excellent!" Christopher Rau: super nice!!!' Deetron: Nordic Rave is amazing!' DJ Hell: great trax!' JammHot are a Leeds and London-based production partnership consisting of Matt Mason and Jamie Adams whose rich blend of house flavours that oozes musicality and sense of adventure is now introduced to the Eyetone imprint with ET 006.
4 terrific cuts form the 'Under the Influence' EP and demonstrate a core ethos at work that allies irresistible rhythms and bold melodic directions that are aimed firmly for the dance floor.
'Set Free' is the standout number here that delightfully drives along at pace and was what initially attracted the attention of label owner DEMi. With an immediate comparison to a previous house classic 'David James - Always' which featured on the iconic 'Back to Basics' compilation by Danny Tenaglia, Set Free is an epic groove train that warms the soul and senses. It simply sounds so good'Get Down, Stay Down' is a matured approach full of a vibe that effortlessly swirls with funk and laid-back vibes. Still very much influenced by the classic sounds of Sneak, Farina and Carter, this is a sleeping tiger waiting to be unleashed.
'Serenity' follows suit and as the name suggests, there is an ethereal mood sprinkled over more funk laden grooves by the duo. Both cuts are vintage B-side numbers that grow on you with each listen and sound relevant today, tomorrow and for years to come.Angelis is the final inclusion and is the deeper cut provided by JammHot. Shades of Vangelis are evident here as the track glides but doesn't drift too far into the unknown.
It's a sound that's both reflective and progressive and which will sound relevant in years to come.

Rough techno versions, derived from Stefan Goldmann's synth-heavy 'A1' film soundtrack. Five cuts remixed into the mighty 4/4 grid (mostly). Free wheeling hardware synthesis and heavy-handed beats line up for concrete-blasting impact on 'Constructor' and 'A-Drive'. The B2's 'Spikes' is a more loose affair around a scintillating analogue synth riff. Contrastingly, 'Inward Slope' features a warped beat layout and wavetable splashes, sounding like a weeping robot fighting with a cat. 'Roadside Lot' is a soothing ambient FM tech tool. That's it. On to the next fifty.

Saved's second release for 2013 comes from label debutant Julien Chaptal who presents the 2 track "Illin EP"Fist up on the A side is "Eat Ya Foe", a track which is built on unique percussion that possesses a warm bit crush effect. These foundations support the bouncing bassline which has an acid feel to it that works well against the potent vocals.Further damage is caused on the flip with "Illin" where the rolling drums build nicely into the engaging lead line that advances through the track with filters and variations.DJ FEEDBACK

Marbod shows up with an adventure into wonderful sounddesigned housemusic. These four pieces of deeply grooving structures might are be influenced of early works by himself. He is coming home to his own imprint prooves once more how modern House Music should sound like: deep, groovy and always surprising
A first foray onto vinyl from Classicworks, the fledgeling label helmed by the mighty Luis Cardopusher. Pulling no punches in their latest installment of retro-futuristic club music, US artists Nick Hook, Vin Sol and Matrixxxman join forces to deliver three tracks of straight-to-the-dancefloor ghetto house and techno. Taking inspiration from the no-nonsense simplicity of labels like Underground Construction, Trax and Dance Mania, each track keeps it simple - no silly gimmicks, drawn out drops or endless build ups, just that pure, unrelenting 909 drive. 'I Can Feel It' rides out the A side with little more than kicks, claps and a Juno baseline, resulting in an absolutely smashing club igniter, while '666 Wayz' and 'High Volume' add dense drum machine work outs along classic rave vocal loops to the B-side. An essential addition to any club DJ's late night toolbox.

Despite the fact Moon Harbour is celebrating 15 years in action this summer, they still have
plenty of time for new music. Next up is label regular Sable Sheep with three brand new cuts
that all continue in his fine tradition of serving up surefire dancefloor bombs.
Before now, Sable Sheep has served up memorable moments like 'Upon Burning Skies' on this
label, as well as others on Desolat and Be As One. As such he now has a large fan base
around the world and both DJs and dancers love his always evolving output in equal measure.
Up first here is the title track, 'Butterflies Drowning', a playful affair that packs a lot in: off a bed
of rubbery, bouncy drums, lots of jangling melodies, glassy tinkles and feel good piano chords
all dance a summery dance. It's a real hands in the air tune, for sure.
'Kushhh' is a much more forceful and physical tune, with raved-up stabs, siren sounds and
bulky drums banging out a pattern. It's one for the peak of the night and is sure to inject tons of
energy into any party.
Lastly, the excellent 'Grim' is a deep, bubbly offering for backroom basement parties This
irresistible groove stays low, with thick, gloopy synths and subtle hi hats rippling along at an
inviting pace.
This EP proves Sable Sheep has a lot of variation in his arsenal, and for that reason is one of
his best offerings yet.
