The Collective Rhythm Network (Hamilton, Canada), is a weekly radio show that focuses on underground dance music past and present. This EP was produced in celebration of the radio show's 20th Anniversary, featuring tracks by Detroit's Rick Wilhite, Ron Allen and Terrence Parker !

Rick The Godson' Wilhite is a Detroit born producer/label owner/record store owner/DJ and founding member of Detroit's 3 Chairs. Rick also releases music under his Vibes New & Rare Music label. For this release Rick has provided us with a brand-new track entitled Mind Control' - a thumping late night dance floor stomper
reminiscent of early 3 Chairs, that is sure to keep the crowd jumping!

Ron Allen is a Toronto based JUNO Nominated music producer/songwriter/DJ and founder of legendary dance music label Strobe Records that was instrumental in developing the house and techno genres in Canada in the early 90's. Whispers' by The R.A.S.E. (Ron Allen Sound Experience), features melodic keys, dreamy vocals and a groovy, head-nod inducing bassline that sounds just as fresh now as it did when it was originally released in 1994.

Terrence Parker ( TP') was born and raised in Detroit and has become legendary for his skillful turntablism style of playing House Music. Terrence has released more than 100 recordings on his Intangible Records & Soundworks label and various other international record labels. With lush keys, and soaring vocals, Embrace (The Original Melody Vibe)' is one of the deeper cuts in the Intangible Records & Soundworks catalogue.

Following his first ep for Accidental Jnr in the summer Bambooman is now back with something entirely different. The downtempo experimental designs of the 'Feel EP' give way to his latest offering 'Shudder'. Available on 12' and digital the 4 tracks of Shudder weave through a club music tapestry like a chainsaw through custard. The opening and title track is hard to describe, a mix of off kilter synth stabs and hammering snare that routes you to the floor - it's one of those tracks to whip out of your bag to remind the crowd they have no idea what is coming next. Track 2 'Grasp' with a blissful Detroit groove under deep rich melting chords is a perfect blend of early funk house style and super crisp new production.Side B opens with 'M1' a lazy floor track with washes of bells, static and detuned synth above a bed of solid kick and shuffling bass. Finally 'Kyrian' closes proceedings, another club friendly slice (despite being in a 7/8 time signature), the track could have led the EP in its own right but feels like the perfect bookend with its shifting almost garage like 2-step feel and glancing vocal hook.Bambooman wields refined live recordings, warm exquisite melodies and a silvery vocal into the track's rich musical fabric. It's hard to suppress the emotions with this one' - Boiler Room on 'Feel EP'

Franck Roger reunites with vocal powerhouse Mandel Turner for one of the year's most infectious tracks, 'Through The Motions'. The product of a melting pot of inspirations, 'Through The Motions' features a hilarious spoken-word sample, Mandel's ultra smooth vocal contribution and louche, hypnotic atmosphere underpinned by a laid back BPM.Franck and Mandel first got together on one of last year's dancefloor smashes, the superlative 'After All'. The twosome found common ground through their love of eighties and nineties New York musical culture. Mandel being one of the fortunate few to have spent time at Larry Levan's Paradise Garage, where the magic really happened week in, week out for over a decade between the mid- seventies and mid-eighties. When WPH boss Red D heard 'Toriton' being played by Ken Ishii during a WPH radio takeover on Belgium's Studio Brussel radio station he ran to the booth and knew this track had WPH written all over it. Not abiding to any trends, just devastatingly beautiful house music.

Some licence negotiations and months later Satoshi Fumi agreed and made 'Lalalalaland', a brand new track to go along with 'Toriton' and make up this E.P.

The title track has that unmistakable Detroit feel that takes you from melancholy to euphoria and back, while 'Lalalalaland' has been described by people hearing it in Red D's sets this summer as 'Japanese sunset trance' or 'end of the night eyes closed hands in the air stuff'.

Toribio is Cesar Toribio, a Dominican American living in Brooklyn by way of Tampa, Florida. He's an alumni of Berklee's School of Music, and recorded 'My Dear' in his college dorm room in 2011. It's difficult for me to find the words to express how proud I am to be releasing out his first recorded works. Especially in a physical form. The music is honest, vulnerable, and exposes parts of his personality that even those who are fortunate to know him, have never seen before. JJuan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald - the two indispensable protagonists of the Electric Garden - plug back into the wilderness. Transport - the new full length effort of the Borderland collaborative project - brings together a new set of studio-refined sequences aimed at colonizing some of the dark energy that pulsates through those areas that are thoroughly electrified, even if not 'on the grid'. 'Riod' is the first streak to bolt through.

The Detroit-Berlin axis triangulates to a third point which, like the atomic particle that lives in two places at once, flickers between a form of techno-charged ambience and a futuristic club-jazz which cannot be broken down into constitutive parts. Borderland remains caught in a state of enraptured stillness, invisibly moving between every
imagined future for electronic sound making. The result: a font from which springs serene and exhilarating musical ideas that vibrate with refined energy for sixty seconds in every minute.

Classic Detroit Techno at its finest give a Chicago twist by Nick Simoncino and Slowburn. Label Boss Costelloe supplied the first two Basic Channel style cuts on the local label under the alias 'Subsignal' and has provided here two cuts of classic Detroit. Included on the release is a remix by much talked about producer, Nick Anthony 'Simoncino', putting his classic Chicago style signature down alongside Costelloe's spacey Detroit cuts. Simoncino has racked up an impressive string of releases on top labels such as L.I.E.S., Aesthetic Audio, Skylax, Mathematics and Balance among others. Also on remix duties will be local boys Slowburn, whose latest EP on Lunar Disko caught a lot of well deserved attention. Their experimental analog house sound should add plenty of extra interest to what is set to be the biggest release on Signal Code to date.

One of the most busy and consistently excellent producers in all of electronic music is Boris Bunnik, and now he is back under his most loved alias, Conforce, on his most regular home, Delsin. As well as releasing as Versalife, Hexagon and many other monikers, the Dutchman is best known for his serious deep and underwater tracks that are part dub, part ambient and part techno. Opening up this new EP is title track Depth Over Distance. Driven by buried deep kick drums, up top are thin lead lines that leave trails like beams of light as ticking percussion and more widescreen synths flesh out the airwaves. Plateau is less spacious and has more detail in its midst including clacking hits which reverb off into the distance, supple and subtle bass notes and a general sense of aqueous fluidity all characterise this brain soothing bit of music. On the flip, Rendez Vous is more directed at the dancefloor with big drums, cold and edgy chords and gentle acid lashings. It's vast in size and scale once more, and drives along with a sense of muted menace. Finally, Closer is another airy and cavernous bit of ambient music that is sombre and serious. Swathes of echo and reverb make for an immersive, underwater soundscape once again and close out the EP in devastatingly emotive style.

Find Your Own Records launches with Ceri's 'Life Holstee E.P.' and includes a Fred P Reshape.A strong debut for this new label, a record that fuses the darker and deeper sounds of Detroit, Berlin and London.Fred P aka Black Jazz Consortium delivers a timeless remix, his reshape of the title track tantalises the drum grooves, adds his trademark atmospheric ethereal synths and reworks the bass in such a way that is unexpected yet astounding.The B side 'We Do' is the deeper of the three tracks, fusing mysterious vocal stabs with minimal funky drums and deep rolling bass.Whilst the music is at times deep and dark, the message of the EP is positive, the title track drawing it's inspiration from the Holstee Manifesto, a manifesto that producer Ceri aspires to live by. This message is echoed by the lyrical content of the vocal snippets used in 'Life Holstee'. This is juxtaposed with haunting eerie moog synths, alongside variating funky analog drum rhythms and sub-bass.

With early support for the label coming in from the likes of Mr. G, D'Julz, Paranoid London and more besides, Find Your Own Records is off to a flying start, we can't wait to see what else they have in store for the future.

Floorplan is already well known as Robert Hood's house outlet, which this year evolves into a family affair with co-production alongside his daughter, Lyric. 'Victorious' is the second Floorplan album and follow-up to 2013's 'Paradise' which spawned 'Let's Ride, 'Baby Baby' and the massive 'Never Grow Old'. The new album itself is preceded by the double-headed single 'Music' / 'Tell You No Lie'.

As Robert once again extends his minimal techno sound via his 'Paradigm Shift' project on Dekmantel, he also returns his focus to house, disco, funk and gospel to the Floorplan show, which now takes a surprising twist. Having watched her father DJ the world over from the shadows and numerous appearances in the Floorplan DJ set Lyric Hood comes centre-stage alongside her father.

The Floorplan project first came to light in 1996 when Hood used it to announce his Drama imprint with the highly sought after 'Funky Souls' EP (subsequently re-issued by Rush Hour in 2010). Lying dormant for over a decade, the late 2000's saw a revitalized Hood re-establish Floorplan into what may well now be his most widely known musical outlet. This year, with his daughter making Floorplan a family affair, the duo's 'Victorious' album is primed to set the world's dancefloors alight.

Launching with the heady house swirl of 'Spin', Robert and Lyric then drop the deeper stylings of lead single 'Music' which builds into a hypnotic, bass-driven anthem. Picking up on Hood's trademark razor-sharp percussion 'The Heavens & The Earth' brings the Bible to the floor (with added funk) and 'Good Thang' shows the strong influence of Chicago as a simple refrain turns into a house missile from the pulpit!

'He Can Save You' continues the Chicago/Gospel theme but with a more driving techno edge whilst 'Mmm Hmm Hmm' marries powerful chords to trumpets, dynamic bass, booty refrains and skilful sampling creating yet another hands up anthem. 'Ha Ya' has that stripped back minimal feel we all know and love and perhaps the closest we get to touch on the classic Hood sound whilst 'Tell You No Lie' is pure, un-adulterated disco-string drenched fun(k) and already tearing down dancefloors as we speak.

'Push On' takes us back to the tight, knife-edged percussion of Chicago's house vanguard, reminding of the tougher sounds of DJ International and DJ Deeon, DJ Funk and Boo Williams. 'They Can Tell' kicks in with a no-nonsense, foot stomping kick drum as Floorplan chop up the vocal refrain into what becomes the main hook of the track and finally 'Sun In the Sky' brings the disco back with yet another string-laden anthem to bring the Floorplan show to a fittingly, uplifting end.

Seattle's 214 (TwoFourteen) is next in line for some HCS ear candy. His Miami roots are clearly present in his strong booming beat programming but Puerto Rico born Chris Roman has more tricks up his sleeve as his style crosses many borders.

In their fifth release, DC label Partial Magic welcomes four friends and producers from the Knoxville, Tennessee based collective TEKNOX. Alex Falk opens the record with an upbeat slammer, looping cocky vocal samples over brash, noisy textures sure to please those familiar with his sound. Second on the A side, Saint Thomas LeDoux follows with an introspective track perfect for building or releasing dancefloor tension. On the B side, Nikki Nair brings back the raunch with a cheeky breaks-and-bleeps acid track. Dialectic Sines closes out the record with an ethereal cut backed by a hypnotic, tropical electro-techno groove.

JTS005 bursts in delivering two timeless productions by Santiago Salazar, both cleverly reinvented by DAHRAXT, a new Mannella's project. The whole EP is the result of inventiveness musically merging and melodies into a wonderful tapestry of sound.

The original version of NBS2-19 is a dreamy driving loop beat, built on a fat kick drum, that becomes raw and biting due to that squeezed synth on DAHRAXT's version.
On the B side, both versions of NBS2-15 have a strong hypnotic drift, although the original mix is a dancefloor killer theme.

Pupil Dilations - new EP by Russian producer Kausto (real name Kuzma Palkin) for Roots United records.

The Solar Phenomena label welcomes Achim Maerz for its fifth EP. The Hamburg producer is an associate of labels like Don't Be Afraid, where last year he released his mini-album of rough and ready house tracks that are improvised and innovative. The four cuts he serves up here are just as special and have an ethereal air to them.

In My House opens things up with serene synth work and lush Detroit stylings. It's a deep and widescreen track that encourages you to dream. Fresh Air is a little more upright, with rattling hits and pixelated, long tailed synths lingering above the rooted drums. As the title suggests, Leaving This Planet is a cosmic exploration, with ambient keys and meditative atmospheres joined by only the most subtle and suggestive sense of rhythm way down below. Last of all is Two Times, a beautiful deep house track with deft synths drifting, bleeding and wandering off into a starry night sky. All in all, then, these are truly thoughtful house tracks.

In 2014, Ultramajic's Jimmy Edgar received information about an East Detroit storage unit auction containing vintage recording equipment and historical items of Detroit Techno descent. We were only able to take a 1 minute peak at the dark and dusty unit before the bid, it was clear there were at least 1000 vinyl records and some miscellaneous recording equipment. ULTRAMAJIC came into the possession of over 100 DAT and 1/4" reel tapes. One box contained meticulously dated tapes from 1995 -1998 with sharpie inscription "ASHTAR LAVANDA". We had never heard this name and google search didn't bring back many results. We had uncovered a hidden treasure of Detroit Electro. The Ashtar Lavanda tapes led us on a journey to find out who the producer behind the sound was, and furthermore how did this music never get released After nearly two years, we managed to connect with Ashtar Lavanda to present this music to you. Like others during this time, Ashtar Lavanda was sharing lesser known analog studios that catered to electronic music artists during the late 90s. Studio time was expensive so the tracks had to be recorded same day. With this release and upcoming archives of his music, he will be known as one of the true pioneers in late 90s Detroit Electro alongside artists such as AUX88, Ectomorph, Dopplereffekt, and Drexciya. "I just wanted to see my music on New Dance Show, I wanted to hear it on 97.9FM but I didn't have the hustle to get the music out there" Ashtar Lavanda resides in Detroit to this day and currently works in the medical industry.

The label's latest once more arrives at us from the label owners, who combine witH aplomb on the quite expertly named '(I've Seen) Love From Tokyo'. For the first time ever, Fuckthegovernment.Ltd call on a remixer to give the package an extra sheen. In a move that's befitting of the standing for which the label is held, the guys have only gone and nabbed Chi-town legend Boo Williams for remix duties. A killer DJ tool that takes the listener on a proverbial journey of sound, his effort - not a million miles away from classic Williams productions a la 'Mortal Trance' - is sure to win plaudits from discerning house jocks aplenty. The original is an Intricate and deep number that's laced with clever cowbells, warm pads and a sporadic vocal that really brings the heat. With such adept producers on show, it's perhaps no surprise that Fuckthegovernment's latest serves up a masterclass in beautiful house music.

SNIPS delivers the first vinyl release on Houseology. The Barbershop LP is a tongue in cheek play on the production techniques Todd Worsnip aka Snips normally uses when making his Hip-Hop work. This 8 track LP is meeting of the two worlds of House and Hip-Hop tapping into Snips' raw ability to find the best cuts and chops needed for any genre.

DJ Snips began his career at legendary London record store Deal Real', where he ran the open mic night alongside British host and comedian Doc Brown, Snips' years at Deal Real saw him DJ'ing alongside performances from several US heavy hitters including Kanye West, Mos Def and the Black Eyed Peas.

Snips' knack for manoeuvring through a wide range of Hip Hop oeuvres has seen him play around the world, Specifically in NYC where he has been a guest at legendary parties including Everyday People, Bible Study, Mobile Mondays and Ginny's Supper Club. As well as being a regular in NY, Snips has also headlined events in The Philippines, Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, Qatar, France, Norway and Spain. When Snips isn't touring or on the Club circuit, he's known for churning out beats for some of the most talented MCs on both sides of the Atlantic. His production work includes tracks for several major US recording artists including M1 (Dead Prez), Capadonna (Wu Tang), Sean Price.

Work on the Houseology record label allows Snips the opportunity to articulate himself even more so within his skilled production, by drawing a definitive line between the House/Hip-Hop relationship which has existed for years.

New talent from Detroit. HazMat's Infinite Silence ep is as deep as they come, and is the first release in a new series of Detroit artist releases from Third Ear. Following on from Third Ear's landmark Detroit Beatdown series, the New Detroit Deep series of releases is just that. HazMat has played keyboards for artists such as Bilal and Mary J Blige, as well as Detroit legends Kenny Dixon Jr, Amp Fiddler and Delano Smith. Along the way, he started to make his own beats and his own tracks and is now ready to take things to the next level. He also plays keys with Motown legacy artists' touring bands, such as The The Four Tops, The Detroit Spinners, The Gap Band. It's not all about the beats and the synths, though. Solar Phenomena welcomes singular rhythm master STL for a new EP that offers four fantastic tracks of dubby house. It is the label's fourth release and finds the Something label boss in a typically inventive mood.

First track 'Spy vs Spy' opens things with shuffling drum loops and eerie synth details that hypnotises over seven minutes. 'Atomsmasha' has wooden hits and rough shakers peppering a soft, imperfect groove as awkward chords bring an unhinged edge to the mix. On the flip, 'Summer Breeze & Brotherhood' has loose keys doing an off kilter dance over STL's trademark low-key drums where 'Freebird' zones you out with long held chords and detuned keys as cloudy, dusty kicks bring a barely-there groove deep down low. You know what to get from STL by now, but at the same time you can never get enough.

The UK House legend Sir Lord Comixx is back 20 years later...Splendid 90's House music taken from his old DAT. Member of the classic label Ugly music & half of Future Monument with Justin David, he created an unique style of House music that goes across time. Back in the days his music has been enjoyed by many known names, such as Derrick May, Carl Craig, Blake Baxter and Danny Tanaglia. He delivered here 5 timeless tracks with the strict idea of taking your shoes on to dance and spiritually travel !

DUANE: the former Teenage Weirdo, the current Brand New Dog, presents a three-track single full of funky electro-pop from the musical motor city of Detroit. Lo-fi freedom, Casio keys + Casio key drums: the digital sound is here no more. DUANE's sound merges with the slick production skills of Brett Cimbalik on the Rollhaven Refunk' remix of DUANE's classic Brand New Dog, Same Old Tricks."

Rob Amboule is a relatively fresh name on the scene, the young artist stepped onto 2020Vision's radar following the London based producers self released white-label, KERRI01. A record which put Amboule on the map and was heavily supported by the likes of Paul Woolford, who closed the Space Terrace with one of the cuts last year, and Heidi on her Radio 1 show. This introductory single has now led to a full EP of original material for 2020 here, joining the likes of Ejeca, Huxley and Maya Jane Coles on the roster.

The release kicks off with 'Kerri', a raw deep house cut, embracing a classic aesthetic, the record employs an amalgamation of cutting chords, blooming pads and vocal snippets, running alongside swinging 909 drums. 'Pushin' On' follows, displaying a more understated, reserved approach to Amboule's productions, as he tightly blends swirling pads, resonant synths, and shuffling percussion, with sensual vocal lines uttering the tracks title. Amboule adds a further musicality to the track in the centre stages, throwing in a tension building synth string for good measure.

Last up to close the single is 'Part Three', taking on a retro US House approach, with its crunchy claps, warm, evolving Rhodes melodies and stabbing bass hooks, these elements build the foundations of the record while subtle nuances in the drum programming and background atmospherics add character.

After Zine's 'M--E' EP started the climb to the peak of the 'Mind Everest' the crew's journey continues with this versatile four track EP by fairly unknown but up-and-coming producer Lowshore. His debut record provides a fine selection of superb crafted house with a not to deny touch of funk and jazz influence featuring a tooled bassline cut, a drum infected sampler session surrounded by an emotive peaktime jam and an ambient run out on the flipside. Each release comes in a black screenprinted sleeve with an embossed photographic fine art print.

Number six emerged deepest Devon, UK! Jimmy Winkles, the most notorious chap on the south shore, has been troubling up with Midlight at BAR Rotterdam, Intergalactic FM, GCW Radio & now in the foreverness with his well tripped out tribal house of tomorrow. Mark du Mosch did the fix on the flip. This mighty West Coast cat has been a fav of the Midlight brothers since they moved to the Harbor city of Rotterdam. Finally we welcome him to the imprint. Matthew Puffett, the artist most commonly known as Future Beat Alliance, presents a retrospective of selected works under his most lauded moniker. The name - taken from an Afrika Bambaataa sleeve - may have been a nod to the early-80s hip hop that was his first musical love while growing up in Oxford, but the music bore the unmistakable influence of the Detroit techno that had become his obsession. 'Collected Works 1996-2017' maps an illustrious discography over two decades and will be released on the artist's own imprint - FBA Recordings. Preceding the compilation, a brand new track entitled 'Chemical Cloud' will also be released. Blake Baxter is undoubtedly Detroit techno royalty. His unique style and sound has always found fans around the world since his first releases back in the late 80's. We decided to reach out to Blake here at Mint Condition HQ and we were hugely under-prepared for the reply we'd get back from him. 'Master tapes!' we said - 'Yes' said Blake. OK, who wouldn't wish to hear unreleased mixes and versions of some bonafide Detroit techno classics we thought That's what you're going to get with Mint Condition number 12, some unheard, unreleased, straight from Blake Baxter's 4 track tape stash HEAT. As you're all aware, 1991's seminal 'Prince of techno' EP originally came out on Underground Resistance and we've been given exclusive permission to reissue the EP (almost) in it's entirety, the only difference being that this pressing doesn't include 'Vision of truth' and features unheard versions of the other tracks that appeared on that EP as well as the original, classic mix of 'When a thought becomes you'. Yes, Blake dug deep for us in his archive and we are proud to present this important document of classic Detroit techno, never before heard - until now. Exciting stuff!

producer and fundamental part of 'Los Hermanos' and 'Galaxy 2 Galaxy', from Underground Resistance. "000056" is the dawn of this launch, illuminates a new positive road with warm tones, which delimits the outline of large buildings in Detroit. A hopeful look translates into music through harmony, melody and rhythm, fundamental characteristics of this composition.
"000056 Orlando Voorn" captures the essence of the sun and places it directly on the dance floor. "000052" shows the versatility of which E110101 is capable to. The dark side of the moon, the other side of the coin, are only adjectives that promise to describe an easily perceived aggressiveness. "000052 Santiago Salazar", reinterpreted through Groove, a smooth and
friendly version for your ears. Hijacked AM recently incorporated E110101 to their booking roster as "Young Promises", sharing a worldwide booking team with renowned artists like DJ Pierre, Paul Johnson, Orlando Voorn, DJ Skull, Four313 (Blake Baxter, Eddie Fowlkes, Santonio Echols,
Thomas Barnett). Their classic but unique approach won full support of these electronic music pioneers, it's fair to tell that with E110101 and Detroit Classic Gallery a new generation of seriously
skilled artists will rise. 'Back to Basics' EP will be released in early March and they will be promoting their album all over Europe during their tour in July of 2017.

Future Times is feeling super blessed to announce a reissue 12" featuring two hard-to-find cuts by John Selway and his Seltav project with Andrea Taverna. A Side "Shimmerdown" has been a rare grip for a long time on the original CSM wax, due to its status as one of the finest Rhodes-soaked, late-into-the-function cuts ever made. "SPQR", on the flip, is a massive house tune. Heavyweight action on both sides for the Deejays. Both tunes remastered by Dietrich Schoenemann at Complete. Yes!

Berlin based Arttu has been dropping his dusty fat beats across numerous techno labels including Philpot, Clone and 4Lux for a few years but it was 2016's track 'Hoodies' on Arttu's own imprint Cyblo that caught the attention of Accidental label boss Matthew Herbert (and which remains firmly in Herbert's record bag). Arttu was invited onto the Accidental Jnr roster and has delivered a chunk of techno with so much swing it made Donkey Kong blush.

Arttu takes the most simple of jazz bass hooks and loops across a rigid kick, it's when those hats kick in that the groove goes fucking wild. The presence of US native Roberto Q Ingram on vocals brings a full Detroit gangster flavour to the party. Initially Arttu and Roberto had an idea to record a simple and sweaty track with Roberto on the mic and Arttu at the control of some dusty old machines. The result, 'Bass Trakk' is exactly that: Roberto dropping lyrics over a raw beat and a massive bassline. The EP is rounded off with a deep bit of techno 'Debris' with all the trappings of the darkest hour of a Berlin winter in which it was recorded.

It's not everyday that pianist and composer, Francesco Tristano, joins forces with one of the Belleville Three - the godfathers of Detroit techno - and yet, anyone who's followed the Luxembourg artist will know that expectation is not a currency he deals in.

Set for release on Transmat, the groundbreaking label from said techno pioneer, Derrick May, Surface Tension is not just the latest album from the prolific Tristano, but perhaps the most significant in his ongoing explorations into electronic music. Described by the man himself as his "most techno and synth-based project yet," the eight-track effort is both a celebration of electronic instrumentation and the first record May has worked extensively on for the better part of two decades. "I had to lure him into my studio," Tristano says of May with a smile, "he was like Alice in Wonderland when he saw the synthesizers."

Originally developed as a way create new material for Tristano's p:anorig project - a unique live set-up debuted at Barcelona's Sónar festival earlier this year, which finds the artist surrounded by large array of keyboards, synthesizers and other equipment (although ironically, no piano) in full view of the audience - Surface Tension grew into a project in its own right. Now 34 years old, Tristano explains that he is only now at a time in his life where he has a studio he can truly call his own. "I can hook up all these synthesizers that I've picked up over the years," he continues, "it's the fulfillment of that." With an instrumentarium of analogue, digital, classic and modern gear - ranging from Prophets to Moogs, to Rolands and Yamahas - at his and May's disposal, Tristano has aimed to keep processing to a minimum from the word go. The pair aren't just using these synths, they're paying tribute to them, honoring the rich, recognisable sound palettes that have made them household names.

The result is an album that feels, at once, nostalgic and fresh, that feels like an old friend, but one who never ceases to surprise. From the ambient vision of 'Esoteric Thing', drifting along to the sound of birdsong, to more beat-centric pieces such as 'The Mentor' and the quirky 'Xokolade' , the equipment, and the love it's been treated with, shines through. Both Tristano and May's individual presences are obvious too, yet work in a way so complimentary to each other as to blur the lines at which they cross. 'Pacific FM' is a lesson in uplifting techno, keys fluttering over padfoot bass, the futuristic Detroit dance of 'In Da Minor' is undercut by eerie, unpredictable glass synth-work, 'Rocco's Bounce' is free-form jazz tugged into line by structured four-to-the-floor, there's even an itchy, jittering, Decca Records-sanctioned remix of Japanese pianist and general Renaissance man, Ryuichi Sakamoto's classic 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence'.

Those hoping for a Francesco Tristano piano album: be duly warned. "The piano is there, but it's more like the shadow of the piano. We don't have the mass of that sound, it's more like the reminiscence of that sound," says Tristano. But it's this which gives Surface Tension the aforementioned significance. Tristano hasn't abandoned his roots - they're deep, but there, for those who wish to find them - yet has simultaneously transcended what it means to be a pianist in the 21st century. Tristano and May have brought together old and new, within themselves and on a wider musical level, and in doing so, rekindled the spirit of futurist expression that techno was first founded on all those years ago.

VINYL ONLY. Iban Montoro & Jazzman Wax are one of the most successful combos of the current house music scene. It is very common to find them on all the most important house charts, with their releases on top notch labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Robsoul, I Records or Madhouse. After debuting on Cyanide in July with their awesome ep Freaky Deep Day', now is the time for a proper vinyl release.

Chains' defines what a house music piece should be. A solid funky groove, a fat bassline, subtle jazz arrangements and a catchy black voice, resulting into a catharsis of pure adrenaline and black sweat. The first remix comes by Matt McLarrie (Material Series, Younan) who has added a good dose of groove to the
already epic original track, obtaining a massive peak time bomb.

When we flip the vinyl, we find a superb remix by Dave Pad (Highway, Plastic City) who comes back to Cyanide, after his huge successful rework of Queemose Promise'. This time, Dave has joined his buddy Anjei, to delight us with a crispy piece of deep house, with a playful bassline and a subtle and elegant acid touch.

The icing on the cake, comes by the Spanish young talent Keepin' Soul (Pocket Money)...who has made an analog and raw dub version of Chains. So deep and fat that it hurts.

This year, 2014 - Playin 4 The City is back, 3 brand new tracks released on the deeply respected US label - Plastik People. Side A delivers two soulful edged tracks with a reprise at the start of A1 which keeps the roots of P4TC from back in the day - both tracks include live bass by Slikk Tim. Side B "Good Groove" is a black & white track, It has the feel of the early Bouge & Shuffle track that came out on Olivier's Straight Up label, deep & groovy elements, 16 bit samples & keeping it four to the floor. Bristol based producers Behling & Simpson take on remixing some Kerri Chandler classics this August with the 'Heaven' EP, set to drop via Kerri's very own Madhouse Records
imprint.

Madhouse Records boss Kerri Chandler needs no introduction having been one of the most prominent names in underground house music for over two decades now. While rising talents Behling & Simpson's collective output has been championed by the likes of Claude von Stroke, Derrick Carter, Ralph Lawson, Modeselektor and many more over the pairs 100+ previous releases between them (under various guises), this stands as testament to their undeniable ability to craft forward-thinking electronic music.

First up on the release we have 'Heaven' featuring Christopher McCray on vocal duties, Behling & Simpson's prevalent low-slung, dropped tempo rhythms take the lead, alongside hypnotic lowend tones, while the duo capture Chandler's warm musicality with style utilizing the original's bright chord progressions and smooth vocal licks, creating an intricate, intelligent slice of house. 'Peace Of My Mind' follows on the flip side, a track originally released on Madhouse in 2011, though returning to the label in 2014 with an intriguing reshape courtesy of the Behling & Simpson, again taking on the pair's niche slo-mo feel, setting the tone and radiantly showcasing why their sound stands tall above many of their
contemporaries in such an effortlessly cool way.
