Tom Trago is back, giddily dancing out of the studio into the dizzying light of a European summer. Tucked under his arm are the masters for his third album, The Light Fantastic.

Since his most recent appearance on Rush Hour last autumn, Trago has spent most of his time in the studio. Over four memorable months, he constantly jammed, recorded, tweaked and produced tracks, until he had enough strong material to put together what might just be his best full-length to date.

Along the way, he was joined by an impressive guest list of guests and collaborators from Amsterdam and beyond, all of who were roped in after 'popping into the studio to hang out'.

You'll have to wait to hear the album, but the good news is that there's an enticing teaser of what's to come in the shape of this formidable three-track taster. One of the tracks, the chiming, loose-limbed, bass-heavy workout 'Avenido', is exclusive to this 12'.

When he sat down to make The Light Fantastic, Trago was keen to recapture the essence of his early work, and particularly the melodic warmth, kaleidoscopic chords and robust grooves that characterized his 2009 debut album, Voyage Direct. This time, though, he wanted to rely less on samples and apply the lessons learnt from four years of largely acclaimed production work. As a result, The Light Fantastic oozes a gleeful sense of fun, whilst retaining the depth and definition that has always been a hallmark of Trago's work.

The two album tracks featured on this sampler confirm the rich dividends that this new approach brought. 'True Friends', featuring the combined talents of Brit-in-Amsterdam Ben Westbeech and local hero San Proper, bristles with loved-up positivity, all bubbling electronic melodies, fuzzy vocoder vocals and jaunty, bottom-end bounce.

Then there's the small matter of 'Two Together', an extra large helping of the kind of loopy, feel-good deep house funk with which he made his name. Expertly teased, tweaked and produced, it sees nagging hooks, darting synths, jazz keys and disco stabs riding a relentless, full-throttle groove. Co-produced with Berlin-based Dutch producer Steffi, it's nothing less than a wide-eyed late night rush. If it doesn't have you tripping The Light Fantastic, nothing will.

Fourth release on the occasional Is It Balearic.. offshoot IIBR Remixes series, sees label bosses Coyote take the Almunia track Meaning Of Time and add their trademark touches. Previously only available digitally the boys create two remixes on this ltd edition 10" vinyl. The Coyote Sunrise mix is sun kissed chugger, with looped vocals and layers of guitars all dancing arms aloft as the sun comes up. The Coyote Sunset Mix pushes the synth arpeggio to the front and strips the track back to push the vocals to the front. Deep soft drums take the track to an epic guitar drop. soft strings wrapping their arms round you for beautiful sunset moment

Psychemagik are back with a bugged out mix of super psyched out cosmic disco, space funk, holy grails and freaked out club monsters! Marcel Vogel's Lumberjacks In Hell welcome the disco master Al Kent into the fold with the two track Yes I Can't 12". Al Kent is a true original. Not interested in anything but Disco. Dying his hair in a truly unique fashion, to match the sparkle of disco balls and having recently hired an Octopus to help him chop up those records. Both "Yes I Do" and "Can't Stop" highlight the Glaswegian's importance to keeping the true spirit of disco alive, deftly and tightly edited in a manner that would impress Messrs Hardy and Gibbons were they alive today.

Volume 2 in the "Coco Bin Classics" series is dedicated to American Vocal Disco, resurrecting more of JCG's classic digital #1's onto vinyl.
The opening track was JCGs first ever Re Edit, and also his first ever Junodownload #1.
Phantasy is the ultimate unreleased extended version of EW&F's "Fantasy".
With elements from an old Canadian 12" mix combined with the immortal original and some sonic action. You can play the entire 8+ minutes, you are guaranteed to see smiling faces cheering in front of the DJ booth when it's over.
"Don't Stop Dancin" Is Jean Claude's Re Edit of TJM's "I Don't Need No Music".
Starting with a massive percussive break intro, then slickly drops into the vocal relief, taking your crowd straight to Disco Heaven.
While in Disco Heaven, comes track 3 (B1).
"Let Yourself Go" by The Supremes is considered to be the holy grail for many disco vinyl collectors around the world.
The original 12" is almost impossible to find, and as amazing as the original track is, it's originally only just over 4 minutes, with a very quick intro & swift instrumental breaks.
JCG's clever Re Edit is Longer & Louder, brilliant remastered sound and smooth chops for a perfect disco ride.
The 4th and last track is JCG's Re Edit of "Check Out The Groove" by Bobby Thurston.The original instrumental edit was a massive digital hit, but for this Vocal EP JCG created an exclusive vinyl only extended vocal mix. So here we go guys, the 12" mixes you always wanted but was afraid to ask for, now, finally, on a bangin' 4 track loud & proud 12".

After being on top of the Juno charts time and time again for his unique Re Edits, Jean Claude is Introducing debut release on Coco Bin Originals, his new label.
The debut EP is titled "Nite Dubbin", containing 4 brand new tracks, produced and played by JCG.
The title track was a big hit in the digital underground Nu Disco scene, now available for the first time on vinyl.
All 3 other tracks are completely exclusive to this release at this point.
"Dusty Crates" (a2) is an piano house peak track, "Sequencial" (b1) is a classic 90s oriented instant garage classic, with Hammond solo by Jean Claude, Jazzy chord stabs, and wicked drum beats.The last track, titled "Soul F" is a bumpy Jazzy track, like the rest of the tracks, very old-school, with intense funky Rhodes by Jean Claude on top of some well-crafted addictive beats.
This is a step up for Jean Claude, showing that he can work his magic from scratch as well.

The Two Mamarrachos drop a limited edition 2 track 10" on Is It Balearic.. En Calma is a laid-back balearic shuffler with soft drums and dreamy lead guitar. drenched in Mediterranean sunshine. on the flip Trip to the Light is a slightly more uptempo percussive groove layered with folky strummed guitar. Perfect remedy to the winter nights. Play this and drift back to warmer times.

The third release for tici taci is a double A side - Peach / Deep Blue from label boss Duncan Gray. Both tracks feature the trademark tici taci sound of live bass and guitar blended with synths and audio treatments. Peach (side A) has been a feature of Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johntson's ALFOS nights for the last few months, and was included on Andrew's Death Metal Disco Club mix on soundcloud - with more than 5,000 plays. It's a dark blend of moody funk and churning sequencers, wobbling analog synths and slo-mo house beats. You can hear Peach in the mix via the following link -
Deep Blue (side AA) is a growling slice of dark disco, insistently chuggy with a menacing beakdown and a synth driven hook which sounds like boys-town on acid. Also a feature of summer ALFOS mixes, Deep Blue will appeal to slo-mo house and old-skool acid fans alike. Duncan continues to provide guitar support to Andrew Weatherall's remix work including Moby and Wayne Coyne's "Another Perfect Life".

Hollis P Monroe is responsible for classic songs in both the Deep House and Funky Breaks genres. Since 1994, Hollis has made sporadic but significant musical contributions on highly respected labels including Ovum, Defected, West End, Stickman, Soul Candi and Jive Electro. Since early 2012, Hollis has been refueled by Noir Music's highly acclaimed remixes of his timeless track 'I'm Lonely' and rejuvenated by talented music veteran but newcomer to House music, Overnite.

Overnite brings his vast experience as a vocalist and producer into the musical direction, DJ sets and live performances as they swiftly move forward as The Black 80s.

Initially billed simply as "Hollis P Monroe and Overnite", The Black 80s have already made a big impression on the House community, starting with stand out collaborations with Rampa for Keinemusik, Trickski for Suol, and KiNK and Sierra Sam for Upon You.

As well, they have well-received releases on Noir Music, Nau and forthcoming appearances on Freerange, Stranjjur, and Noir and upcoming collaborations with Bloody Mary, Trickski, Flash Mob/Dirty Channels, and Coyu.

Ibi Vaughan grew up a stones throw away from the heart of east London. The sounds of Fela, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Ritchie would play from the living room every Saturday afternoon, as she wrote and performed songs with her year older sister.

From the age of eight, she had already crafted songs about love, friendship and the love of the 'beat'. Almost a distant memory till she revisited her first love just before leaving university. A wonderous time exploring elements of jazz, soul, acoustic and African genres. She would compose songs about change, reflection, rebirth, poverty and love. Inspired by Lauryn Hill, Jessica Care- More, Amel Larrieux, Common, Joni Mitchell and so many other artists and poets, music became an existence. A reason to dream, and to strive.

In 1998 she performed on stage with hip-hop group Supreme Beings at the Jazz Cafe, and various other venues in London, and lent her vocals on various other artists tracks. Her love of writing and collaboration would take her on an eclectic, spiritual journey of song writing, jamming, performing, producing, and recording leading her to Philadelphia in the early part of 2002. Surrounded by the extraordinary sounds of Jill Scott, The Roots, Musiq and the enigmatic, entrancing sounds of pure, undiluted House music. An impromptu song-writing invitation by Hollis P Monroe to his wonderful track resulted in the conception of 'Nothing Better', a fitting title to her love affair with music.

DJ and producer Denis Rubini, better known simply as DJ Rubini, started his career in the early '90s, totally involved in the new italian house-underground vibe of that moment. Towards the half of '90 he enters in contact with the Bologna house-scene and in particular with the Pastaboys (first inspiration and good friends of DJ Rubini) and performs frequently at 'Kinki', historical and influential club of the underground dance movement. During the same period he plays in important clubs in the Center and North of Italy. In 1993 he found the City of Saint Studio, his recording studio and began networking with different people from the music industry leading to a collaboration with Gabriel Covacich aka Glitch (Nano Rec) and to the Sub-7 project, signed by Emi with the track 'Tokai'.

Currently based in Berlin and inspired by the city's explosive dance scene he works from his new recording studio at some disco-house tracks. At the same time he organizes and plays number of events in Italy and abroad for Nano Records, DJ Spiller's own recording label. Out soon on "Time for House", a compilation on Ladies & Gentlemen Records, Phonique's own imprint.

MB Edits continues to dust of the classics. This time it's one of the most famous club tracks of all time!

Stardust (Alan Braxe, Thomas Bangalter & Benjamin Diamond) - Music Sounds Better With You, done 1998. It created a buzz that never been seen before and most likely never after as well. People were literally fighting for the Roulé Vinyls in the stores that time. They were gone in seconds. I'm sure you all remember those crazy days. Those were the days, huh

With the connection to Thomas Bangalter and Daft Punk with their new album, we felt it was nice to do a tribute to their work. First out is Martin Brodin (Nang, Eskimo, MB Disco) who kept true to the original and did a nice Nu-Disco edit of it.

Flipside offers a different approach from Rare Wiri founder Rayko. He mixed Music Sounds Better With You with Bucketheads 'The Bomb'. So here you have two of the most famous House tracks from the nineties cleverly mixed together.

This year sees Dj Uchikawa celebrate 30 years in music. In that time he has been a driving force in Japan for quality soulful music from jazz through to techno, tirelessly working to push, promote and support the scene.
His Loftsoul imprint has fast established itself as a label of musical excellence in the dance music realm with releases thus far featuring Glenn Underground, DJ Spinna, Lisa Millet and the Latin Soul Brothers.
Release #4 continues in this rich vein with another fine example of emotive music for the dance floor. Wait For You features the vocals of Carla Pratha over a typically driving groove from Uchi and production partner Hide Koyama, merging the electronic and organic to devastating effect.
The remix comes courtesy of Chicagos very own Cordell Johnson and Tim McAllister under their Excursions moniker. Cordell is
possibly Chicagos best-kept secret having been one of the citys smoothest and most knowledgeable DJs since 1981. The Excursions Mix takes the track deep into Chicago House territory, giving us an alternative yet equally compelling take on the song.
Finally, Earth Song sees Uchis original groove laced with a killer guitar workout from Hideki Ikeuchi, completing the package.

Resonance is the stage name for Javier Pérez Rodríguez, a Canarian electronic artist and producer who live in Tenerife.He started his career with dance floororiented techno and convincing sounds to late move to ambient and experimental beats. Skygaze, is an album that contains a variety of sounds and melodies in which the artist explores his inner side in a sweet-sounding journey of songs, instrumentals and electronic beats. It swings from Shoegaze or Krautrock to pop and nu disco without setting aside his devotion to electronic beats.

People Must Jam is our Sydney based warehouse party that we have been running for five years.

The ethos behind the night initially, was to bring DJs to Australia that we wanted to hear but that had never been, and to put them on in intimate spaces and let them dig deep into their collections to play whatever they wanted.

Over the years we have brought Rahaan, Al Kent, Leo Zero, Mark Seven, Trusme, Frank Booker and more to Australia for the first time to play.

First up is a killer funk track, cut up by the mysterious Bastedos. The slap bass driven track is a guaranteed floor jammer.

Secondly is Out In The Sticks with an older cut that the Revenge had championed previously on his cd only 'L.E.S.S Productions' label.
Next is Frank Booker's straight up party track Dance Woman. Frank reworks Crown Heights Affair into his trademark chunky, funky house sound - a perfect dance floor destroyer.

Al Kent rounds up the release with a peak time rewire of a bona fide paradise garage anthem.
The record is pressed on 180gm vinyl and strictly limited to 300 copies.

Schneeweiss II Presented by Oliver Koletzki: a collaboration of neighbours. Over the years, Oliver Koletzki has continuously cited Berlin as a point of reference and, more importantly, a source of inspiration. Two of his albums - Großstadtmärchen and Großstadtmärchen 2 - have been a direct ode to the capital. Friedrichshain, one of Berlin's vibrant districts, has always held a special place in Oliver's heat. This is where he started out when he first moved to the city, and this is where he lives now. Moreover, the Stil vor Talent HQ is situated in the centre of the bustling Kiez. So is Schneeweiss, one of Friedrichhain's best and most loved restaurants. Over the course of eight years, the stylish eatery has impressed many a Berlin foodie with its contemporary take on alpine cuisine and attention to detail. Music is part of the experience here, which is no surprise due to one of the owners' extensive background in Berlin's club scene of the early days.

Chicago's AL & TONE are back with the 3rd in their edit series and it's disco time! AL edits the foot stomping "PARTY TIME" and the funky gospel cut "KARMA" while TONE edits the gospel cut "TEACH THE PEOPLE" and the "WHATCHA DOING TO ME" both made for the dancefloor. A party essential!

Next up on JD Records is Fix feat. Orlando Voorn & Blake Baxter. Some more classic house is on the menu here. Starting off with 'From The Ghetto' which is a strong hypnogroove house banger! On the remix you'll find Barcelona's man of the moment 'Baldo". On the other side is 'Here We Are", which is a deep groovin' and warm Detroit sounding house track. The remix treatment is from another one of Barcelona's new emerging talents 'Clip!". Here he gives us a brilliant new version featuring all the right Detroit elements.

Gator Boots Volume 1 comes at you live n' direct representing a sonic snap shot of contemporary American pop music, fused with an underground application. "Prototype" might not be the one, but it certainly comes close, leading to ecstatic dancefloor reaction. "Umi Says" shine your light on the world with a deep 4x4 cut that fills the crowd with emotion aka that warm fuzzy feeling. "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" insists that its time to clean up the pimps and the pushers at the same time with breakbeat house beat that's rough and ready for primetime. "Done It Again" explores the softer side of Grace Jones is edited and expanded into blissful moments of psychedelia.

My recent sets have become something of a Tici Taci megamix"... Andrew Weatherall

A brand new label with some old hands on deck, tici taci is bringing the funk back with this first release - Electric Plum. Producer Duncan Gray (ex Sons of Slough, veteran of many vinyl labels) has gone back to basics, slowed things down to 110bpm and plugged in the real instruments.

The A side - Electric Plum - pays tribute to the might of P-Funk, Bootsy 'n' Bernie's unison bass stylings coupled with a big unreliable analog synth calling the crowd to party. On the B side Purple Ash evokes the days when synth pioneers just wanted to make funk tracks. Look out for the big mood swing - the only thing missing is Chaka herself.

The good news is that these tracks have been given a thorough road testing by the Chairman himself - Andrew Weatherall has been playing these (and a big bunch of other tici taci pre-releases) over the last few months - check tici taci's soundcloud page for links to AW mixes. Duncan is also Andrew's favoured bolt-on guitarist for remix work having played guitar on some recent remixes including Craig Bratley's Obsession.

There is plenty more to come from this new label so now is the time to go out and get the perfect grey leather jacket so you can roll the sleeves up and look totally cool while you groove to the tici taci sound.

Sophomore EP by Brooklyn's new house prodigy Willie Burns, who has been honing his craft under various guises for the better part of a decade. Expanding on the foundation laid on his L.I.E.S. EP earlier this year, here we see Willy take a more aggressive approach towards more commercial territory... errrm as if... in any case, classic house tunes with a NY twist.

Grass Green's first foray onto vinyl has called on the services of two leaders in their fields at different ends of the experience spectrum.
Greg Wilson has been involved in music for more than 30 years, chiefly as a DJ and producer and is riding the wave of the (new) disco boom.
Andy Hart is a relative newcomer, but one who is fast carving out a reputation through his work with the Melbourne Deepcast crew.
Each was asked for a new version of a track from Monkey Boots' number one * Whitworth Strut EP. Each has delivered. And then some.

Well they don't come thick and fast from us but when they do they are pure golden magic!


It is with great honour that we present to you the one and only Shit and Shine. We can't believe how much of a score this is for us. He's not an easy fellow to track down - locked away in his bunker in Austin, Texas - but sure enough he was into it and has graced us with five stone cold killers.

Forget what you think you already know about them. Yeah they can be noisy. Yeah there can be loads of them. Yeah they just play one long song live... this turns the page yet again! Following hot on the heels of his recent killer Diagonal release, 'Find Out What...' is unadulterated dance floor mayhem sprinkled with that Shit and Shine magic. You may think you've heard them before, but you haven't. Not like this.

Side A finds 'Panther Piss' roaring into disco action layered with a persistent groove and a vocoder full of soul while 'Stop Being Sexual' strips everything back to just a minimal sizzurp pulse. Side B drops some 'Darth Vader Flavor' which jerks and jumps with kraut magic and an almighty throb. Then onto 'Corvette Museum', loaded and sexy with it's synthesized italo magic and last but definitely not least is the raw distorted swagger of 'Public Display Of Pussy Whipped'.
They don't come anymore perfect than this.

1. Klic - Wanna Be Your - finely cuts up some US funkateers into a tight bright house jam with booming bass line.

2. 2nd Sun - 'Falling' - one of soul's greatest voices harmonises with himself at varying pitches over immediate sounding yet imaginative deep house.

3. East Court feat Donga - 'As She Stands There' - a sub and breakbeat powered refix of a garage-house classic. It totally works.

4. Groucho Marx - 'He Loves Me' - a modern-day soul queen rides a lush and symphonic broken beat groove. Swoonsome.

After a superlative EP from Chicago's DJ Rahaan, Dublin's Fatty Fatty Phonographics is back with another installment of Pablo and Shoey's 'Rejigs', which have had support from the likes of Hot Toddy, Bicep, Get Down Edits, Leftside Wobble, House of Disco and Rub'N'Tug.

'No Good (Start The Jack) sees them take on Kelly Charles' 'You're No Good', a late 80's New Jersey house bomb and source of the infamous vocal hook from The Prodigy's 'No Good (Start The Dance). After one of the great 80's dance music clichés - an intro where some sassy mama gives her boyfriend shit down an old school telephone line - they go straight for the jugular with that big big hook, spinning the whole thing out for 10 minutes with lots of hypnotic piano loops and large chunks of the great song at the heart of it all. This is one that the crowd will be immediately singing right back at ya at 2am!

'Gonna Get Ya', meanwhile, goes for some Greg Wilson 'Edit The Edit' style shenanigans, taking on Barna Soundmachine's sly, slinky funk loops. The Barna man's original had a whole heap of Diana Ross' vocals from 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me' at the centre but never let rip with the big hands in the air chorus. The lads have rearranged it here so it's alot less teasin' and alot more ease-in!

The 3rd track is as important to Pablo and Shoey as it is to Moodymann, so 'Funky Rump (Tribute To MCA)' pays tribute to the sadly deceased Beastie Boy by looping up some busy jazz drums from 'Paul's Boutique' and splicing it with a very fitting in concert tribute from the one and only Flava Flav of Public Enemy. The full track, when it eventually arrives, is a relentless clav funk monster that just keeps going and going....

Montreal dream pop duo Footprintz have already captivated the world with their magical debut album on Visionquest 'Escape Yourself' and next single 'Fear Of Numbers' is about to keep the fire burning. As much a vehicle for a true remix master as a light shone on this album highlight, Leo Zero filters 'Fear Of Numbers' through his own Balearic vision and fuzzy warm lens across one remix and two alternative Dubs. Unveiling laid back percussive rolls and expansive grooves, the Zero remix is a slow, chugging masterpiece while the Alternative Dub imbues a digital folky pop feel with playful keys and a searing melodic synth-line.

The 'Leo Zero Remix' has already been named Pete Tong's Essential New Tune on BBC Radio 1 and the Visionquest crews have called it one of their favourite releases so far on the label, hammering it in their sets on the Visionquest Thirteen Tour.

DJ/Producer Leo Zero has become one of the hottest remixers in the UK working with Lana Del Ray, Florence and The Machine, Azealia Banks, Paul Weller and Bryan Ferry to name but a few. Leo Zero's extensive hand in the scene of underground disco / acid house has included running cult disco edits label Easter Bay, setting up the Faith brand and party series with Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson, Bill Brewster and Dave Jarvis and currently involves collaborative projects Mountain of One and Zarrylade. A solo album 'Acid Life' was released on Leo Trax in 2011.
Clarian North and Adam Hunter aka Footprintz released debut album 'Escape Yourself' on Visionquest this March, to wide critical acclaim. On an alternative solo path Clarian released 'The Chemical Gardens EP' on Visionquest earlier this year.

NYC (via Paris) based DJ and producer Sid Vaga returns to Nickodemus' Wonderwheel Recordings with another 12" full of exotic deep house vibes sure to light up dance floors everywhere. It's an impressive follow-up to his genuinely well-received "Brazuca" single from last year.

On the A side, Sid delivers "Na Na Ye", a driving cut with a pulsing bass line and hypnotic African chant that pushes the tune forward before getting flipped into a percussive section alongside deep and subtle synths. On the flip "Manouche" can be found, a late night house tune with psychedelic Balkan guitars and swirling Gypsy vocal samples punctuating the track. Rounding out the single, Valencian producer Oscar Barila (Plastic City, Kling Klong) gives "Manouche" a truly funky remix with a squelchy '80s "new wave" style bass line, thumping house beat, and irresistible synth work coming together for a real after-hours nightclub workout.

New label Back To The Balearics follow up the superb Maricopa EP with a stunner from Berlin based live music collective Spleen.
Part one in their musical odyssey 'Fusionary' consists of live jams and instrumentation over computer-based syncopation, their music has a strange yet organic flow to it, which is both hypnotic and rhythmic.
Think Kraut influenced, psychedelic dub funk with a touch of alt pop and you'll be on the right road, but still miles away.
Music is better than words...Spleen prove that.
