After a successful debut last year on Redux the Machete Savane duo are back with two new tracks, gracing Felix Dickinson's Cynic label with the double A sided 12" Widowmaker / Afterburner. Lead track "Widowmaker is a pumping psychedelic rock disco power piece that has been doing the business to dancefloors all summer for the select few who have managed to get their hands on it. Driving bass and rock chords layered with arpeggiators and finished off with a sublime keyboard solo from Matt Watson. "Afterburner" is a house remake of "Widowmaker", although it's so far removed you'd not recognise it as such. It still has the same late night vibe, but more stripped back and electronic, with tinges of acid. Both tracks received support from the likes of Tim Sweeney/Beats In Space, Lee Douglas (TBD) and Simon Lee (Faze Action).

The Vinyl Factory celebrates Jeremy Deller's widely acclaimed 2013 British Pavilion at this year's Venice Biennale with the release of a dancefloor-orientated remix of his cover version of A Guy Called Gerald's acid house classic 'Voodoo Ray'.
The Vinyl Factory collaborated with Deller on the musical soundtrack to his film work exhibited in Venice, the soundtrack to which is composed on three cover versions of classic British songs - 'Voodoo Ray', 'The Man Who Sold The World' (by David Bowie) and 'Symphony in D Minor' (by Ralph Vaughan Williams) - by the Melodians Steel Orchestra, an English/Trinidadian steel band, produced by Deller and recorded at Abbey Road.
The Melodians Steel Orchestra performed at both the pavilion's official inauguration on the 29th May and later that evening at now legendary The Vinyl Factory & British Council party on the Isla Vignole, Venice, alongside Scottish DJ/duo Optimo, long-time friends and collaborators with Deller.
Inspired by this party, JD Twitch from Optimo has now remixed 'Voodoo Ray' into a joyous piano-house stomper in a vein similar to the now hard-to-find Frankie Knuckles re-work from back in the day, with vocals from the Melodians.
Featuring cover artwork by Deller and pressed on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl, the 12' will be released by The Vinyl Factory on November 4th. A digital release will follow two weeks later.

Next day, beer with orange juice and hours of plastic surgery on the screen. A black river, a dog from outer space and a sonic laboratory as witnesses." Speaking of names, you have to know that what is here called "black river" is actually a distinguished circle of friends, all engaged in shaping the gloriously contorted darkness of this stirring 10-track epic. There are: Lord Byron (the Alchemist, former Lord Byron Maiden), Glad Secret Kazuka, Little Chucharita, Cornelio (the spirit himself) and - you already know this man - Diegors. Not to forget Wilson, the dog from outer space, capable of the most moving bark ever heard in a techno track ("Boquerón"). Who can resist such splendid company We know Sano is a devoted underworld utopian having realized his nightworld fantasies with clandestine parties at Medellin´s ghostclub Perro Negro, a place reminiscent of Medellin's golden age demimonde. For a whole year Alex Barck was living on the Pacific island La Reunion. The plan to record here his solo album was soon established. It will be released later this year on Sonar Kollektiv.
The three preliminary 12inches (- Re-Set' with Pete Josef, - Don't Hold Back' with Jonatan Bäckelie and
- Skydancing') already accelerated the expectations for Barck's debut across all audio blogs and the respective music press. And now follows the fourth and final vinyl 12inch before we finally can hold the album in our hands.
With the already released Reunion-12inches Barck clearly proved how the Indian Ocean, the life on an island and its forces of nature have influenced him musically. - Oh Africa' is more than inspiration though. It's the actual processing of the native Maloya and Séga sounds which Barck learned about and come to appreciate at his weekly residency at - Potiron's' in Saint Denis. It was at one of these Wednesday nights that he met Christine Salem. The probably most famous singer of La Reunion soon became a friend and one of the results of this musical fellowship is - Oh Africa'. The track is a tribute to Barck's temporary adoptive home and a declaration of love to a whole continent. After half of the playtime Barck's Berlin origins push through and we are treated with a proud hybrid of traditional African folk and soulful percussion house. La Reunion has a new national anthem!
If a song has so much soul like - Oh Africa', a remixer has to pay close attention not to burn his fingers. That must have been one of the main reasons why Barck consigned his old acquaintance Osunlade to fulfill the task. The New York based producer and label boss (Yoruba Records) is on a roll with flawless, sophisticated releases and remixes for almost twenty years now (his album - A Man With No Past Originating The Future' released in January of this year is another highlight). And this guy surely knows how to take African elements and lots of Soul to build an ambitious dance track. That's exactly what he does with his remix for - Oh Africa' and thus makes Reunion No. 4 one of the absolutely essential release of 2013.
A further treat is the remix of - Don't Hold Back' by Copy Paste Soul. The London based producer established his reputation with remixes for Pepe Bradock and Photek. Known for his slightly left, sometimes broken deep house his approach corresponds perfectly with the one of Alex Barck: Lots of bass, even more breaks and a reliable sense for the things that work on a dance floor without a doubt.

Neil Higgins and Richard Sen return as Padded Cell with a brand new single, `Guardians of The Night' due to be released through Different Recordings.
It's been a few years since previous Padded Cell single releases, which have been championed by a wide range of DJs such as Harvey, James Murphy, Erol Alkan and David Mancuso.
In the interim period they have produced remixes for LCD Soundsystem and Bryan Ferry, performed live laptop sets in dark corners of the world from Rio de Janeiro to Istanbul, and seen their music infiltrate mainstream entertainment such as Grand Theft Auto and HBO comedy Eastbound And Down. In 2012 Richard Sen put together a compilation of early UK house & acid from `87-91 called `This Aint Chicago', which was released to great acclaim through Strut.
New single `Guardians of The Night` employs vocalist Free Disco alongside a live sax, bass, guitar and percussion skilfully arranged by the hands of Padded Cell.
B-side Deviancy Amp heads straight to the dance floor with its repetitive dark synth stabs and live freestyle percussion.

This time we play tribute to Swedish pop/rock band Eskobar with their world wide major hit back in 2002. Someone New features Heather Nova on vocals. The song was in TV commercials for Peugeot 208 and mobile operator 3. The first edit comes from Sweden's high rising stars Copycat and Martin Brodin. Their slow electronic-disco chugger is simply put as a beautiful adoption of the original with the hook line working just sublime. Once the song is over you'll will play it over and over. As you'll notice, the original is such a feel-good track. They both lately finished remixes for Nang and LaBelle. Second out is Danish René Kirkegaard alias Cemetary. A producer who likes his Deep/Tech House. And his remix is nothing but a true slow Deep House builder for over 9 minutes with the vocals of Heather Nova coming in just as sweet as we want it. We'd be very surprised if this track wouldn't be rated as one of the best underground remixes of 2012!!!

The Light Fantastic is a dancefloor orientated club album with a range of influences like - deep house, vintage synthesizers, classic boogie, disco, Chicago jack, acid house, and even a dash of full-throttle rave revivalism.
There are many ways to move forward as an artist. You can reinvent yourself, keep track of fashions, or try bold new things. Tom Trago has spent the best part of 10 years pushing his sound in impressive new directions. Yet on his new album, the well-regarded Amsterdam-based producer has done things slightly differently. This time round, his influences come from much closer to home, and he has admitted to being inspired by the dancefloor-focused style with which he made his name.

Trago is an old hand at this kind of thing. Back in 2009, his debut album, Voyage Direct, impressed with its warm, disco-centric blends of full-throttle deep house and boogie-influenced synthesizer funk. He cast his net wider on 2011's Iris, choosing to work with a wide variety of international collaborators on an album that laid bare his myriad of musical influences.
On the Light Fantastic, he's decided to 'step back to move forwards' with a warm, involving set that puts the simple pleasures of the best dancefloor moments at its heart.
'I tried to go a bit back towards the style I was doing on Voyage Direct, so dancefloor beats with deeper impact,' Trago admits. 'I was trying to male tracks that work on the dancefloor, but also move your heart.'
In some ways, The Light Fantastic is Trago in 'back to basics' mode. Partly inspired by his ever-increasing travels around the world to DJ, it melds together a range of influences - deep house, vintage synthesizers, classic boogie, disco, Chicago jack, acid house, and even a dash of full-throttle rave revivalism on the raw funk of 'The Elite' - on a set that sounds like it was painted in vivid colours by an artist at the top of his game.
'I'm like a professor in a lab, trying to make little ideas work,' Trago enthuses, warming to the theme. 'The tracks are all there in my head, like a puzzle, and I have to make all the pieces fit together.'
The 'back to basics' theme extended to his choice of collaborators. Whereas Iris was notable for featuring an impressive cast list of international singers, musicians and producers, The Light Fantastic is more of a homegrown affair. While plenty of people lent a hand during the recording process, they were trusted locals from the Dutch electronic music scene, rather than outsiders.
'This time, I thought 'whoever walks in the studio can get involved',' he says. 'If they walked in, they could sing, play some synths or do some mixing. A lot of people came to hang out and ended up lending a hand. It's a much more fun way of working than sending your track to somebody across the other side of the World.'
There are many collaborations on The Light Fantastic, but listen out for contributions from Steffi, Ben Westbeech, 'studio neighbour' San Proper, Makam, vocalist Holly Wood and, most surprisingly, a local club owner who just happened to swing by the studio. 'Using my friends was a big part of the process,' Trago admits. 'One of the points of the album was using people who were close to home, part of the family almost.'
It's an approach that definitely paid dividends. Certainly, this celebration of Amsterdam's blossoming electronic music scene adds a little extra frisson of excitement to The Light Fantastic's impressive vibrancy.
By the time the rush-inducing positivity of 'The Wrong Right' gives way to the mutant alien funk of album closer 'Desire', you'll be ready to listen to it all over again. That's the thing with The Light Fantastic - it's a trip you'll want to take again and again.
