It was unlikely that an artist from Austria would become world famous back in the eighties. Falco was one of the few who actually made it internationally. With numerous of hits under his belt, he topped the charts with almost all his releases during 1984 - 1986. He's the best selling artist ever from Austria with over 20 millions album sold. What about tracks like Jeanny, Rock Me Amadeus and the earlier Der Kommisar. But we're here for another reason, and it's the uber cool Vienna Calling that he made in 1985.

Martin Brodin made an edit especially for a Vienna gig last year, and it went down with a storm. So he decided the rest of the world also should have the chance to take part of it. We also invited the up and coming Norwegian artist Jarle Bråthen (one part of Ytre Rymden Dansskola. He's part of the second wave of the Norwegian Nu Disco scene that is n it's uprising.

Another exclusive Cooperation of Internasjonal / Full Pupp and Friends. This time we took three tracks from the second album of italy´s fine cosmic/kraut duo CRIMEA X and Bjorn Torske wich was originally released on Hell Yeah and gave them an extra special Prins Thomas Diskomiks twist. The result is as for me, especially convincing in 'Dream Is Gone' which almost sounds like a warm late 80´s Club version of a NEW ORDER track. Guy Andrews has been a prominent name on the underground circuit as of late, racking up a reputable back catalogue with releases and remixes for the likes of Hotflush, Hemlock and The Vinyl Factory. Andrews has seen heavy support on the aforementioned singles from the likes of Lorca, The Black Dog and A1 Bassline, testament to his classy, understated take on house and techno. Here Guy joins the FINA Records roster, following a release from DFRNT, a striking indication of the attentive A&R approach of the label so far this year.

The release opens with 'Divide', a brooding house cut employing punchy organic drums, smooth ethereal synthesizers and dubbed out chord progressions as its driving force. Andrews throws in a modern drawn-out bass hook to add a contemporary touch to the otherwise classic format, resulting in a classy, understated opener for the EP. Up next we have, '7AM', embracing a similarly natural percussive edge, with rolling toms, heavily reverberated claps, and shakers taking the reins, while emotive melodies and bulbous low-end tones drive the musicality.

First up on the B-Side is 'Fixture', taking on a more direct 4/4 approach with raw distorted drums, gritty electronic synth hooks and a blossoming atmospherics. The record builds in this state for several minutes, before Andrews reverts back to the punchy drum groove and hypnotic pads to tail things out. Lastly to close the EP Guy offers up 'Tapes', tipping the focus towards an off-kilter, deep aesthetic, with broken kicks, claps and shuffling hats, while swirling synths, vocal snippets and heavily delayed Rhodes build a profound depth around them.

It's been a breakthrough past year for the family known as Cómeme - the collective / record label / radio station helmed by Matias Aguayo and Avril Ceballos. With a firm foundation of emerging artists from around the world propelling the label forward, Cómeme knows no musical boundaries and fits no specific genre but their releases have found their ways into a full spectrum of DJ's crates ranging from techno tastemakers Michael Mayer, Tim Sweeney and Optimo to Erol Alkan and Boys Noize. The Rothmans label combines an unlikely link between football statistics, some of the best (or worst) haircuts to grace the European version of the game, with jacking drums and acid-based rhythmics. The label dedicates its third EP to French striker Dominique Rochetea, with a various artists EP as strong as the back four of Arsenal's '98 FA cup winning side. The Nigel Winterburn of the release is Coyote's "Without The E", a squelchy and Balearic groove with psychedelic vocals not too far off from Dj Koze "Mrs Bojangles". Aimes and Scott Fraser provide the EP with the composure of Tony Adams and the brute force of Martin Keown with their respective synth-led productions "The Kontemplation of Kosmic Order" and "Heat for Dust", while on the right - a would be Lee Dixon - Drvg Cvltvre, supplies "The Master Builder", an EBM and industrious dancefloor workout.

With his first release for Disco Bloodbath, London based Scottish producer Objects Of Illusion offers a powerful statement of intent.
The 'Private Games EP' features four tracks of raw emotional club music that, while there are nods to early Chicago and Detroit, go beyond mere pastiche and are instead something heartfelt and sublime. A stunning debut from an exciting new talent.

The Revenge is at the helm for the first release of his new label Roar Groove. The Body Fusion EP continues to pair disco's groove with the deeply contemplative musical roots that have earned him worldwide respect. The 4 featuring tracks fit between the lines of live electronics and more endearing deep slow burning club jams bringing inspiration from Graeme's pre-Revenge band project.

Glasgow based Graeme's sterling association with quality productions, various endeavours of evocatively analogue and forward thinking releases saw him rise to prominence in 2010. The Revenge solo output, though few and far between are worth waiting for when they do arrive. Historically finding homes on labels such as Needwant, Pokerflat and his own, now defunct yet heavily cherished and much sort after, Instruments Of Rapture.

Definitely not a producer to rest on any success, Graeme has over the past few years forged several aliases and collaborative projects for his prolific production and experienced engineering demands. As 6th Borough Project alongside long time DJ, Craig Smith, the partnership has already turned out a stunning full length album for the respected UK label Delusions of Grandeur alongside a selection of low slung remixes.

Future releases from the label will showcase The Revenge and close others, exploring the electronic and house territories with ambiguous raw grooves.

Geordie pairing Last Waltz mark their Tusk Wax debut in illustrious fashion with the first of two releases for the label; hand stamped, individually numbered and weighty 180g vinyl only release this may be, but there's still room in the sleeve for the concluding chapter. Tusk Wax 11a is opened by "Glamour Thing" which pairs motorboat arpeggios and interlocking kick-hat manoeuvre with playful synth fades. Sharing the A-side is "Tipping the Gulf", which sounds like a detuned version of music from Nintendo's arcade classic Cruis'n USA, while Jamie Blanco's remix makes use of the original's sustained leads, edging up them up in octaves to create extra tension. The final track ""Beholden (part 1)" is the record's ambient piece, with Last Waltz sampling, reversing and effecting the high pitched guitar plucking of UK indie band Foals.

"Sundog" by french producer Johannes Regnier was a massive but bloody underrated track this summer - when i heard it recently at the Innervisions-party on the Berghain-floor i felt confirmed about this dude's big potential. Meanwhile he moved from Paris to Berlin and his first studio in town was located in a street called Wiesenweg. There Johannes met Alexander Antonakis, an excellent and well known DJ from Frankfurt for some sessions - the result you can hear on this "Wiesenweg EP": Even deeper but with the same forcing elegance. "You can't buy happiness" is a detroitish chord-monster with an amazing vocal-loop as main theme. A true jam for the peak time. "Wiesenweg" slips more under the surface while catching you with beautiful strings and a balearic synth in best "Sueno Latino"-tradition. I still love the break after a thousand hearings, emotive! "Deep Voices" is a slow and pure house tune for all 909-lovers out there. In a stoic manner it goes on and on and you wish it will never stop. More is less! Since "Wiesenweg" would be called in english literally something like "meadows way" it is obvious that THC 02 comes in a nice green sleeve and extra thick green wax - a special postcard included. Enjoy summer in wintertime ...

Paris based DJ and producer Reverend P have been on the GAMM radar for quite some time.
But its not until now that we managed to get his wonderful edits released through GAMM.

Spread out over two EPs Reverend P delivers soul, funk and boogie reworks that sets himself up there with all the big players on the edit scene.
On part 1 we find a hot selection of Marvin tunes and a soulful Chi-Lites track.

File Under Disco return with another set of cracking remixes of JKriv & The Disco Machine, whose 6 track digital EP 'The High Fidelity Sound' drops in late June.

100% original disco music is again the name of the game.

For this edition, long-term stalwarts of the UK disco scene Faze Action step in to remix 'Disco Rocket' in two very tasty flavours - main mix and dub mix. Both are bang on the money and ready to rock the dance floor.

Meanwhile on the flip side, Disco Deviant Dicky Trisco is back at the controls following his heavy hitting remix of Drop Out Orchestra's The Blue Train' at the end of last year.
The results are again 100% guaranteed to raise the pressure to boiling point in any discotheque.
File them all under disco and dance.

So we begin with "SO STRONG" which is full on cosmic odyssey and which samples NINA SIMONE. "BLOODY MARY" is a trippy downtempo cut. On the flip, "DOWNTOWN NUBIAN" gets it going with a catchy tech house groove. And to finish, "WRONG WIRE" brings back the funk to life.

New Sheffield label Shabby Doll Records makes its debut with Nail's 'Donks' EP

We love music for what it does to our minds and bodies don't we It's the music that matters, not the number of units shifted.

Except... occasionally a figure comes along that does raise an eyebrow.
For instance, when London's Fear of Flying released the 'Ode Rammel' EP by Nail back in February, they sold out their vinyl pressing in a week. Not downloads or tracks streamed, but actual treacle-black vinyl.

Nail is Nottingham-based Neil Tolliday, a producer who spent the last decade creating deep downtempo joy as one half of Bent - their debut album 'Programmed to Love' helped ease the world's ills back in 2000.
However, 'Ode Rammel' is a flashback to pre-Bent days, bringing together four of Nail's much sought-after mid-nineties house tracks, originally released on the legendary DIY Discs imprint. It's music firmly in the tradition of the celebrated Nottingham party scene in which Nail made his first moves.

Now, with love for Nail's solo manoeuvres truly reignited, Sheffield's Shabby Doll label is taking the next step with his first new solo material for years.

Lune d'Afrique ups the tempo with swinging Afro drums, mbira and swirling arpeggios before a choral refrain takes it up and beyond.

Sympatry was originally written for a timelapse film - lilting acoustic guitar, glockenspiel and Mini-moog lines drenched in reverb that shimmer with a homespun beauty.

House Is OK! House Is OK! House Is OK! Third and last part of the 'We Make Music' series has finally arrived and just right on time as Janis, Oliver Achatz and Homeboy deliver the perfect soundtrack for the summer, accompanied by a new friend, east-coast disco honcho Sleazy McQueen, assigned for remix duties. Homeboy opens with one of his most cheerful works so far. 'Hula Hoop' is a lot of things: it's Disco, it's House and it's as happy as Croatian dance music specialist can get. It starts with a heavy piano riff that gets doubled by the occasional disco synth, which works since Tee Scott first went into the studio. The chorus gets really cheesy. So cheesy, that the fat almost drops from it, yet the rough 707 drums and distorted bass keeps things on the floor. After the psychedelic breakdown, keyboard virtuoso Alexander Ismailovski shoots you right back from space to heaven. This is where you meet Janis and he takes you even further with 'Movin' Up". The stomping house beat strikes like thunder as the filtered swirling under it makes you open up your disco shirt and raise your arm like Travolta. This is no song for the shy dancers; this is peak time dance floor craziness! Do your boogie and shake that booty like your momma told 'ya! The flip starts with 'Express", Oliver Achatz' love train. Arpeggios chuckling like a locomotive, drums tight as the railway and the ueber-funky bassline invites you to the disco wagon, where the air smells of sweet perfume and the music is in control of your body and soul. This combo drives you safely to the break, where the vocals take over and prove once more, that Oli is a lover, not a fighter. Just be careful when you drop this bomb on the dance floor, the endorphin explosion might be heavy. As with the first two parts, the compilation is closed by a guest

A quick listen to the radio suggests that disco is back, not that it ever went away here at Retrospective and over the past few months we've been proud to work with some of the biggest names on the scene including Heion, Hardway Bros and Ajello. Still there's certainly something in the air and so what better time to welcome back to the label's Spanish King of the Re-Edits, Rayko, with a stunning new 4 track EP.


Since he last graced us with an EP he's gone from strength to strength, clocking up an impressive run of releases on labels such as Lumberjacks in Hell, Rare Wiwi and an album soon to be released on NANG. Throw in a relentless touring schedule and it's easy to see why Rayko is fast becoming one of the most loved names in modern day disco.


So here we have the 'Can't Get Enough' EP, an apt title we think as the second the needle hits and the title track, a trademark boogie dancefloor smash, kicks in you'll be up on your feet. The hypnotic bassline, the 80's synth breaks and soulful vocals all combine to stunning effect guaranteeing this a place in the record boxes of the scene's leading players.

BARN 011 is an EP from our Polish friend SLG who delivers his finest work to date. Five perfect tracks ranging from sample flippin' modernist house to 808-laced lullabies and back. Guest artists are equally Polish supastars Catz'N Dogz and DJ Mo. Artwork by Studio Barnhus' new in-house art director Makode Linde, the record is limited to 450 copies worldwide.

From the tropics comes Whiskey Disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from

latent disco perpetrators. It's loosely connected to Sleazy McQueen and his assorted cohorts.

Whiskey Disco #20, Swimwear EP marks the second EP from YSE Saint Laur'Ant. We here at Whiskey Disco HQ have a strong

appreciation for sunny weather and the appropriate soundtrack, and why not, we're based in Florida and never too far from sand and

sun. YSE is a kindred spirit with his glowing boogie down and disco jams, each one is top notch and we know regardless of your
geographic whereabouts, this EP will work for you day, park, pool, beach and early night sets. Go grab your suit, the water's warm and
the drinks are cold.

Just like London buses, you wait ages for a new World Unknown 12 and then two come at once. George Thompson does his Black Merlin thing on side w. Fans of his releases on Bird Scarer and New Jersey will know what to expect and anyone not familiar with his work needs to get up to speed straight away. On side u White Lodge (aka Chris Bauer, a highly valued member of the World Unknown dancefloor family) rolls out a 6/4 time wobbler replete with the opening salvo in this year's snare roll revival.

Jack Fell Down are a fast rising duo that have turned plenty of heads recently. They have solid releases and remixes on labels like Home Taping Is Killing Music, Manucci's Mistress and of course Southern Fried Records. They have moulded deep house grooves with various different moods to create something quite unique. Here they team up with the equally impressive Stee Downes . Stee is a renowned vocalist who has worked with Nicholas on 4Lux and The Lovebirds.

The EP's opening track 'All We Got' is a sparse affair that still manages to pack a hearty and emotive punch. The considered synths and tactile percussion ride on an elastic beat, as Downes does his heartfelt and stirring thing up top.

'Just Begun' is a little more playful. The drums ping that bit more and the synths are a little more restrained. It's well produced stuff from all angles, with it's fine understanding of tension and release and a poised placement of vocals marking it stand out from the competition.

Next track 'No Way' steps it up again. It has a well rounded analogue baseline riding up and down beneath squelchy details. Stee takes the vocals on again and sings with more fluidity up top. There are some fine examples of machine made funk throughout, as various baselines swell and spray around.

Closing out the EP is a dub mix of 'Just Begun', this is the most jackin' track on the EP and without the vocals exhibits more of a neck snapping groove.

By this point you can see (and hear) what all the hype is about... Stee Downes is quickly becoming the new Robert Owens of house music and Jack Fell Down continue to serve up fine quality House Music, further cementing their position as quality producers and artists.

Monitor 66's arrival onto the scene with last summers 'Triscuits' saw them pop up on a lot of top dj's radar's, such as The Magician who opened his Magic Tape 22 mix with it. It also saw their first release on House of Disco, their adopted home. Since then the two boys from Sweden have been honing their sound through a series of lauded remixes for Tempogeist, Kolombo & Rythm Operator. Now after some painstaking studio time they are ready to release their next original work, their first solo EP, Vitae on House of Disco Records.

'Vitae' starts with the title track, which firmly re-enforces their manifesto of making music for sunsets. Bit's haunting vocals are given a different context with some invigorating melodies and bright positive basslines.

Next up is 'Virago', a slightly more sultry affair featuring some rebuilt but familiar vocals that progressively open up as if bearing their soul and plenty of shifts and depth to keep sneakers on the dancefloor.

Third on the EP is their most house orientated track to date 'Nyx'. Hi hats keep the tempo as this one gets a little harder, again their vocal treatments are a signature of their sound but this time with a more 90's feel.

Finally we have 'Cur' featuring Oh Deer. A truely unique end to the EP this track plays out like a love story, a fitting sunset to an accomplished and long awaited solo EP from the two young swedes. The first of many by the sounds of it
