Daniel "Blackbelt" Andersen has been active in the Norwegian dance music community for a number of years. He got into electronic dance music in the early 90's, and first started emulating the sound of Detroit techno on his father's home computer. In the last half of the decade he bought his first turntables and a mixer, and was soon DJ'ing around Oslo. His first releases were on Canadian label Restructured Recordings and Prins Thomas' first label Tamburin, under the name Kalle Magnus & Daniel, a collaboration with his childhood friends Kalle Sandås and Magnus "International" Sheehan. Through the last years he's enjoyed success with his releases on Full Pupp, Trailerpark and Claremont 56 and recently remixes for fellow Norwegians Fjordfunk and the lowlands disco kings the Glimmers. His productions has been licensed to a number of compilations like MOS Balearica(yes, a shit name...we know...) The Glimmers Fabric Live 31.
He's a co-resident on the monthly Full Pupp Oslo and has also had a number of international DJ gigs from Berlin to Beijing. The Blackbelt sound can be described as Juan Atkins jamming with Airto Moreira, with a bit of Larry Levan thrown in for good measure.

A few words from Prins Thomas:
The raw material which became 'II' has the same DNA as Blackbelt's debut. His ideas might lay around for 5-10 years before that crucial missing 'middle part' pops out of nowhere(or in this instance:2 old ideas gets combined into a new one) but essentially they all come out with the same colour, taste and smell... and they all sound like nothing but Blackbelt Andersen.
Over a 3 month period in 2011 I invited Daniel into the mess that I call K16 Studios for a hectic but creative reworking of the material that he had piled up.
The idea was to use Daniel's tracks as templates and use whatever kind of tool we had at our disposal to colour in the white fields. Kalimbas, cheap old throwaway synths, guitar amps and effect boxes...
Some tracks needed little more than a sprinkle of eq'ing or some re-arranging and others
where reworked from the bottom up.

I know we might be blowing our cool by blowing our own horns, but it´s hard not to get excited listening to this brilliant masterpiece. Toot toot toot!!!!

After the auditory feast Soft Rocks has served over the past year, we at the ESP Institute thought it would be best to pause briefly for digestion. That said, we've now got a second wind and are pleased to deliver the last in the Revenge of Soft Rocks remix vinyls. Long time disco sorcerer Ray Mang has taken Mirador De Las Estrellas to a beautiful place, utilizing the steal drum as a hypnotic hook and editing Jorge Socarras' memorable Spanish vocals down to an effective sigh. If there was ever a track for your Indian Summer, this is it. On the flipside, the boys from Cage & Aviary sprawl out the original extended version of their tough and dubby bonus beats (this bomb is exclusive to this vinyl release). If you know what's best, you'll not sleep on this one... there is nothing more pleasing than completing a set.

Ditongo is the Batongo's alias for disco editing, less obscure, more groovy.
Not much is to be known about Batongo, previously an active euro dance producer, released a bunch of hits in the nineties. 10 years ago, after a traumatic experience he escaped in Perù and retired from the music business, during this years, on his spare time he made a lot of music, not meant for the public, just for himself. Now he is still in Perù, not willing to move back to Europe but barely broke, he sold us the rights on his entire collection of unreleased recordings with the condition of not revealing his real identity.
We will unveil a series of EPs ranging from obscure deep to psychedelic disco.

This is the third release of Suricate, presenting a new duo from Washington called 'Combine To Define'. They are teaching us that clothes are optional for the homeless bourgeoisie.

From the fuego department of Cómemia comes 'De La Cabeza' ('Off Your Head'). 'Que fuego' they say in Buenos Aires when a particular style is particularly flamboyant. Be it an evening gown, a staggering dancing step, a good phrase or a precious little make-up smear. All these things are part of the wondrous world of DJs Pareja. One portrait shot of them and we all want to repeat the word boy (or better: BOY) ad infinitum. Dedicated extroverts that they are, happily heading over the top is just natural for them. Once in a while they open the gates to their lavish spheres when hosting Fun Fun nights in Buenos Aires, but as DJs they´ve seen so many others. Being major socialites from the very beginning of the Cómemian Society their label debut was already in 2009 on a split 12', together with Matias Aguayo. But what is happening here and now 'The whole idea of this EP is being off your head in another world, a dark, fantastic and unreal world', they tell us about these four unsettling exaltations, probably their most eminently mind sucking works to date. Even though graced by the absence of anything picturesque these pieces unfold themselves as pretty rampant nightlife fantasies. Just like the title track: A straight forward beat is mocking a solid ground while all of a sudden kinetics gloriously start to fail. What´s that fog horn What are these zig zag tones Pleasure steamer gets in troubled waters. Voices, vapor, vertigo. Then your favourite further things start to happen. 'Ladren Ladren' ('Bark Bark') has the aroma of melting bronze. Doggy style Chicago and Acid Rock coalescing in one tall bastard of a statue ready to get vandalized. A lunatic Latin Techno jam called 'No Paren' tells you not to stop. It´s more like: 'Little drummer boy, look how you´ve grown - good Lord, to quite an immensity.' Finally 'Saxo Temor' ('Sax Fear').It´s the grande finale in terms of grandeurishly destilling things. The sax is a dizzy peak-no-peak thing (or as DJs Pareja say: Twin Peaks); the perfect beat also does some historical worshipping; the cowbell is an instrument hanging round our necks.

Formed by Superpitcher and Rebolledo, this tag team is famous for bending time and space, with the boys balancing exotic spices with hearty flavours, enticing any old mood rebel to take a big bite of happiness. Andy has perfectly distilled what drives the Bad Passion dancefloor in the excellent 'Elysian Fields', and who better to put a unique stamp on the track than their main resident guest FELIX DICKINSON. He takes the track into bolder, dubbed out and altogether more Acid House territory, while keeping the live elements to the fore.

Paradise Garage DJ and dance music legend Victor Rosado presents his remixes from the self titled debut LP from Nina Kraviz on three special limited 12"s..
Victor was part of the legendary "Garage" scene and played along side Larry Levan throughout the history of the famed New York club and went onto remixing and re-editing a whole host of stars and his work has appeared recently on the cheeky "East End" records.
These mixes fuse Nina's sultry vocals with the sounds of NYC nightlife....

Endangered Species is the eagerly awaited full-length album from Wolf + Lamb's musically virtuosic No Regular Play, a duo equally at home in the rehearsal rooms of Julliard as in the main room of Fabric. Their debut album was made in early summer 2012, exclusively in the studio of New York City's Marcy Hotel. Over the course of 11 elegantly interlaced tracks, Greg Paulus and Nicholas DeBruyn create a veritable cornucopia of beautiful forms. A steaming hothouse of closed high-hats, rife with the plaintive, fluttering bird-calls of Paulus's inimitable trumpet lines, and unapologetically organic throughout, Endangered Species is as shape-shifting as nature itself. Endangered Species also includes guest spots from close friends Carolina Sevilla and Lisa Bauer on opening track 'Birdfeathers.' Alex Scherber, A.K.A. John Camp contributes additional keys on 'Birdfeathers' and the title track, 'Endangered Species". 'The Answer' features vocals and piano from Eliot Cardinaux, a fellow alumnus of Greg's from the Manhattan School of Music. JT Bates, the prolific Minneapolis free jazz and indie drummer, recorded live drums on 'Kickback.' Mixing for the album was done by musician/producer Francis Harris. The project was mastered by the legend, Joe Lambert, who has also worked with the likes of Animal Collective, Washed Out and Dirty Projectors.

We are back with another panoramic journey. Max Essa needs little introduction, in our circles he is the shining light when it comes to the newer Balearic flavours we enjoy.
M.O.D.F.D.M.V stands for 'Musica Originale Del Film Della Mia Vita' - Italian for 'Original music from the film of my life', and if this is what Max's life sounds like then he is one lucky guy. 'Pow Wow' was described as 'Young American Primitive meets Mood II Swing by Dr Rob on his Test Pressing review which we thought summed it up quite nicely!
'Cloud Chasing' Early '90s Italo House and 'Zosimos on the Shore' sounds like Max jamming with Yellow Magic Orchestra. One word 'Essential'

Transmissions from the Cyber Dance imprint have been sporadic since its inception in 2005, but when they arrive they're always something very special indeed. Ostensibly one of Italo Disco's great lost producers, we suspect that Bandido's Gang may well be a nom de plume for one of the label's many associates. Whatever their provenance, the tracks certainly sound like vintage Italo, with "Marinche" leading with a pulsating bass arpeggio and synth horn melody worthy of Moroder, whilst the Flemming Dalum & Steen Gjerulff remix adds layers of vocoder and a variety of cosmic accents to its sturdy frame. "Last Train to Tucamari" meanwhile takes a more languid approach, pulling in an opposite direction to the speeding train samples, whilst Flemming Dalum & Mike Salta's remix adds some guitar licks, hazy synth atmospherics and even a flute solo which just adds to the classic Italo feel. Killer!

The eight tracks on 'Versus' exemplify a remarkable cross-pollination of genres, a true testament to the intense, 'it takes a village' spirit of collaboration among the artists in the Wolf & Lamb aquarium. The LP kicks off with 'Real Love,' an electronic duet with San Francisco's PillowTalk. A sparse, airy kick and lackadaisical, scale-climbing bass line complement a vocoder-drenched croon, evoking nothing less than an R&B version of Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works. In the album's next track, 'Fo Porter,' butter soft vocals from Voices of Black ("I want it/I need it/I just can't get enough/I hold it/I squeeze it/I just won't give it up") complement lush orchestral arrangements, doing for hip-hop inflected dance music what Metro Area does for disco. 'In The Morning,' an after the after party, hands to the air entry into the house of god, will instantly conjure up for those lucky enough to have visited the Marcy the familiar image of Gadi's hands feeling up the wall in ecstasy while Zev soldiers through the groove. 'Weekend Affair,' perhaps the real standout of an all-round exemplary album, punctuates stuttering, oscillating synths with a ferocious cowbell and moaned vocals, continuing a long-standing New York tradition of sexualized Downtown funk. The gorgeous 'Serpentine,' with it's kettle-drum compression worthy of Phil Collins's 'In the Air Tonight' and atmospheric vocals from French chanteuse Rap Lisa, is rounded out by the it's a perfect ending to the album, a moment of calm before the sharks, always on the move, start circling again.

Three Years ago, before signing Harvey, before those ultra-limited white labels, before anything, there was just one track that I couldn't find a deal for..
International Feel was born out of this frustration and the determination to do things in a certain way, with a certain aesthetic, to create real, tactile 'things' of lasting quality in a binary world.
Now, after 36 releases, I've largely achieved what I set out to do and this compilation is a time capsule of those original aims, together with the desire to say thank you to everyone who's supported us, by putting all the limited / hard to get bits n bobs in one place (with a few unreleased gems as well), to act as a introduction to the label for newcomers and finally (and probably most importantly) to make a great balearic (un)mix(ed) tape !
I've no idea what's next, as this kind of draws a line under everything we've achieved so far, so maybe its time to go away for a while and get re-inspired, but I do know this there is a lot of work for love still to do, so this isn't the end, maybe just the end of the beginning.

Boola (part of (a:rpia:r)) started spinning in the summer of 2005, in Ibiza, where he had the great opportunity to play at the famous DC10. As a producer, he had his first release on the romanian superlabel (a:rpia:r), followed by Lomidhigh Lmtd.,Rekids, Lomidhigh Organic, Innervisions, All Inn, Cecille, Soweso and some tracks on Cabin Fever, including Balada Redo, featured on the Fabric 48 cd, mixed by Radio Slave. In his dj sets, Boola tries to bring back some of the dirty "in yo face" old school sound, warming up the decks for legends like Dj Sneak and Eddie Richards. Performances at Panorama Bar (Berlin), Trouw (Amsterdam) and other european clubs. He represented Romania (alongside Demos, Petre Inspirescu and Praslea) at the Worldtronics 2008 Festival in Berlin and mixed at the famous italian New Years Afterhour, "Fiesta Privada".
