Hidden away in the North East of England, DJ Chris Tarn and double bass player Phil Smith discovered they shared a fondness for sampling long forgotten or never discovered dusty vinyl and decided to hook up
and bounce around a few ideas. These ideas took a life of their own as they started to work with other musicians and the sound of the band took on more of a live feel. The songs were passed around friends and ended up getting radio plays on Craig Charles' Funk & Soul Show (BBC 6 Music) and Pete Isaac's Jelly Jazz Show.

Chicha is a sort of psychedelic cumbia-based music from the Amazon basin in Peru, w/incessant twangy surf guitar playing montunos alongside propulsive, percolating percussion. Greenwood Rhythm Coalition provide the remix on the B.

New label 'Supafrico' kicks off with a fantastic sampler 12' EP that unearths four stunning funky Afro rarities from the vaults. First up is an awesome extended edit of Harari's classic 'Party', a floor-filling cosmic groover with killer vocals from 1980. Next up are the wonderful Lijadu Sisters with their beautiful duet harmonies. Featured here is 'Not Any Longer', one of the stand outs from their uber rare Nigerian only LP 'Horizon Unlimited'. Side B features the mega obscure 12' version of Eko Roosevelt's breathtaking Afro disco odyssey 'Kilimandjaro My Home' followed by Ezy & Isaac's 'Take Off', an incredible Afro funk work out taken from their impossible to find 1974 LP 'Soul Rock', one of the the holy grails of the Afro genre. With all tracks loving remastered, this is a must for anyone with a taste for those amazing Afro grooves - wonderful stuff.

The legendary SABOR DO BRASIL compilations are back, presenting the very best "Brazilian Comic" music. Volume 6 of the series continues to mesh spacey bits of synth and syncopated beats with Brazilian rhythms. Expect a fusion of cosmic dancefloor grooves and elements of Samba and Bossa rather than a straight roster of Brazilian music. The collection is including rare edits and long versions. Titles include "Partido Alto", "Chosen Ones", "African Roots", "Roda", "Drumm Drumm", "Hey Rio!" and more. A must for all discerning disco and Latin DJs!!!...

Having played host to the first two Daphni Edits 12's, Resista return with the label debut of one Tom Croose.

One half of NY duo Worst Friends, Tom's previous discographic output was a limited & stamped 7' that featured a killer edit of the Mac's "Never Going Back Again". For Resista No. 3 he delves into territories Brazilian, with "Cho Chua", a faultless rework of a certain Tropicalista, designed for discerning dancefloors, circa AD 2011. He loops up the swinging guitar intro, which combined with the vocal hook makes for a heady mix. It's an uplifting, joyous ode to all things tropical!

On the flip the 'Dukes Dub' is a subtler more restrained version that makes greater use of effects and surprisingly brings the songs percussive elements to the fore... Not quite as direct as its sibling on the a-side but definitely as effective!

Resista are back with their second release and another helping of Daphni's studio prowess...

Fantastic and incredibly rare Afro-disco album from 1978. Originally released on the seminal French disco label Barclay, this album seamlessly blends elements of African, Afrobeat, Funk and Disco styles, with segments continually morphing and evolving into new tracks. Irresistibly funky and percussive, this album's drumming patterns and melodies grandually hypnotise the listener, with only outbreaks of African chanting breaking up the grooves. The B-side is effectively one long drum track broken down into 7 segments that never drop a beat. This album really takes the listener on a journey to Africa, via 1978 New York, and is a real one of a kind. It's also a samplers dream with no end of complex drum patterns and basslines to recycle.

KINGDOM AFROCKS from Japan! Featuring Tony Allen, this one is sure fire...FIRE! the single precedes a full album! TIP!

The second release from the Teranga Beat label is a live mash of psychedelia and moog madness from Gambian band Guelewar. Formerly known as The Alligators, a group led by Bai Janha, a leading light on the Gambian music scene, the band became Guelewar when Janha was joined by Laye N'Gom. Guelewar fused the Bougaraboo and Saourouba sounds with soul and funk, with a nod towards Gambian traditional singer Moussa N'Gom. Guelewar was the biggest band on the Sene-Gambian music scene. This is their last recording. live at the Canari Club de Kaolack in Senegal in 1982.

After years, this vinyl-wielding 4-piece originating from Brighton — the one and only Soft Rocks — have finally committed their collective wit to a slew of original tunes. 'We Hunt Buffalo Now' is a punky dub monster serving as the first single in a series surrounding their = imminent debut album, 'The Curse of Soft Rocks'. In an age where any laptop-savvy poseur can upload their bland nu-disco or faux-Chi-house directly to the cesspool of digitally downloadable fodder, it is more than refreshing to hear this cheeky bunch blending a mixed bag of instrumentation and obscure influences so recklessly. Guest vocals are provided by San Francisco post-punk hero Jorge Socarras (vocalist of Indoor Life and songwriter for Patrick Cowley). In case that wasn't enough, flip her over for the genius remix by Andrew Weatherall, a bonafide glam stomper that slaps you across the face with a fuzzy bassline and greaseball guitar chords. Pure class.

A slice of sunshine as Chris Read gives us Latin beats for the dance floor. Breakin Bread take another steer in the direction of the Latin diaspora to follow up the success of the DJ Zeph Batidas Latinas releases that were the sound of the summer in 2010.This time round the Breakin Bread crew head from Cali, via Birmingham to join forces with London based DJ and producer, Chris Read.

Detroit's Mike Huckaby (Deep Transportation) is a massive Sun Ra fan. Renowned for his DJ sets, edits and productions he was the perfect choice for re-working highlights of the Sun Ra catalogue. On the A-side is a DJ friendly version of one of Ra's few disco tracks 'U.F.O'. The flip contains an edit of 'Antique Blacks' turning it into something altogether more 'playable' and 'danceable'. . . go on, have a go! This issue comes with exclusive artwork by Stephen Serrato and a silk-screen printed plastic insert. Limited to 500 copies!

David "Papi" Fimbres is a multi-instrumentalist who takes an exploration of anccient & future musics into a realm where blissed out club music hits exotica. It's an ethnic musical stew rooted in the tropics, & beating the bass. F/Gulls remix. Yellow vinyl

Smashing dub-meets-techno burner from Tokyo. Meditation Stick by Japanese Mystica Tribe is a deep and spacey dubtrack, layered with catchy melodica vibes and warped out effects. SD Records label bosses Syncom Data got their hands on the track and made the Syncom Dub with the African toms at the core of a long and stripped down version. On the b-side is the Syncom Data Remix: a true dub-with-techno dancefloor smasher. The Hague style technobeats flowing with spacey melodicas and tripped out effects. One for dancing and spacing at the same time.
