Future Ancestors is the first single from Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra's second album'Towards Other Worlds'. The UK-based 7 piece have built on the success of their debut album, described by BBC Radio 2's Jamie Cullum as one of his 'sounds and albums of 2010'. Although their music uses Afrobeat rhythm and language, they also owe part of their sound to the space Jazz pioneers of the 70's and the free jazz trailblazers of the 60's. The band have been quoted to credit James Brown and Tony Allen for having a large influence on their music.

Back in 2007, Still Music broke new ground by releasing 'Think Africa', the first 12' from Fela's son Seun Kuti with Egypt 80, Fela's legendary band . This year, we're back in Africa via Lubeck, Germany and we are proud to present Mr Raoul K's first full length for Still Music titled 'Mande'.

Mr Raoul K is well known for his productions that mix original African instruments with techno and deep house 'Made in Germany'. His releases, on his own imprint Baobab Music and for Mule Musiq, have spread his unique sound worldwide with great acclaim from Joe Claussel, the Innervision crew and many other DJs.

For 'Mande', Still Music sent Mr Raoul K back to his roots in Abidjan - Ivory Coast, where Raoul K reunited with his band and started working
on this fantastic album.

We took this opportunity to document his journey in Africa with a video documentary that demonstrates the extent of Mr Raoul K musician's sheer talent and can teach you a thing or two about African music (only available on the DCD release).

'Mande' is the fruit of collaborations with musicians from Africa and Germany and Mr Raoul K's supervision and superb production skills. It is a complete 7-track album that dives into original African 'Manding' music all the way to techno via a superb mixdown from our favorite producer, Deetron, for the track 'Sierra Leone'.

Mr Raoul K is an important artist in today's blend electronic music world, he brings a diversity that can only lift a dance floor to a new level. 'Mande' has a soul that comes deep from Africa and reaches out all the way to Detroit and Chicago via Germany.

Strut announce a groundbreaking project for November 2012, a unique fusion of Afrobeat and Moroccan Gnawa music from respected French Afro collective Fanga and leading Moroccan maâlem (Gnawa master), Abdallah Guinéa with his band Nasse Ejadba.Curated by the excellent, forward-thinking Détours du Monde festival in Montpelier, France during 2011 in association with Nueva Onda, the collaboration re-interprets Fanga classics, cherry-picking tracks from their 15-year career. "Our objective from the sessions was not so much to create an entirely new flow but more to bring the real Gnawa sound and trance feeling to some of our songs - we wanted to make the songs work so neither group's sound was compromised. For us, it was also a human and cultural meeting. We represent two continents but also two ways of thinking and two completely different styles of life."The two styles prove to be naturally compatible throughout. Leading out front on the tracks, Burkina Fasso-born Fanga bandleader Korbo and Guinéa share lead vocal duties. Guinéa builds his trademark 'Fusion Trance' through spiritual evocations, rolling, hypnotic rhythms and gimbri melodies while, by turn, Korbo serves up food for reflection, touching on the right to be different and promoting harmony between man and nature whilst denouncing the social injustices that result from an economic system out of control and designed to benefit the few.
Rich, thought-provoking and effortlessly funky, 'Fangnawa Experience' is an ambitious piece of work and another significant chapter in the open-minded and cross-cultural climate for modern world music. Fanga and Maâlem Abdallah Guinéa will be touring Europe during 2013.

Bukky Leo, one of the most prolific UK jazz innovators, returns with a strong musical and intellectualstatement. His new album Anarchy is not only a convincing, fresh translation of afro-beat for the 21st century, but these thirteen new songs also close a very personal circle for Bukky Leo, spanning nearly 30 years. Musically Anarchy digs deep in afro-beat's foundations, expertly laid down by Dennis Bovell at the controls: When I toured with Fela and then with Roy Ayers I met Dennis. I am very honoured to have him as a producer. Apart from being one of the originators in modern British reggae with Matumbi, Bovell worked with everybody from The Slits to Bananarama, from Sade to Edwyn Collins. With Gilles Peterson and DJ Simbad on remix duties for the first single Skeleton, Anarchy features two other protagonists of highly innovative music. It was a long process though. I recorded the first demos with my keyboard player Kishon Khan (a key figure in the British Bangla-Afro-Cuban-Jazz circle), we tried various studios and ended up in this great place in Battersea. The result is a refreshingly flowing, instantly accessible but still tight and edgy album with a nononsense, highly musical approach. The topics Bukky Leo touches on Anarchy are universal. While Fella Fella is an observation of everyday street life in Britain with a parodique twist, ''Man's Dilemma'' touches a common theme in gender relationships. Bukky explains with a big smile on his face: Sometimes you have to be a mind reader to know what your partner is up to. Funnily, I think women play this game more often than men. Rhythemic and Don't Gag Me drop as powerful pleas for the freedom of body and mind. ‚Jahfrobeat' (recorded with London DJ Koichi Sakai, known for his unique style between jazz, reggae, house and afro) actually is about African and Japanese cuisine, a plea for a more life sustaining, nourishing diet. We tend to forget the importance of these things, Bukky puts the message of Anarchy in a nutshell and adds a simple truth impossible to ignore: The power of music can't be ignored!

Harry Keyworth is a singer songwriter from West Wales. His first EP Flux has been recorded at Mwnci Studios in Pembrokeshire. Harry has been touring the UK recently with shows across Wales and England. He has picked up fans across BBC Wales including Adam Walton from BBC Introducing. He recently played at the 40th anniversary of the Old Grey whistle Test hosted by Whispering Bob himself at the Brighton Centre.
BBC Wales have compared him to John Martyn and Tommy Emmanuel. Keyworth also has been influenced by Jeff Buckley and Jose Gonzalez. Flux is a 4 track EP and becomes the 36th release on Jack to Phono. A tour will follow and with an album in the pipeline. There is also a limited edition CD single available of the release. Harry has in recent months played The Bedford in Balham, The Larder House Sessions in Bournemouth and The Queen's Hall in Narbeth supporting Jodie Marie.

Sonidero Choridub version has percussive breaks & cumbia shout-outs; remix by Mexico's Kay (NSM PSM, Mexican Institute of Sound) & Sonido Caballero cranks the BPMs to 105 w/some hard-hitting beats.

Singers and composers JAMES GADIAGA & SECKA will guide you through the sweet melodies, wicked rhythms and vocal traditions of Senegalese music, in a fabulous performance that combines MBALAX with AFRO-JAZZ.
While many bands in the world claimed the title of "Pacesetters" none can stand next to ROYAL BAND de THIÈS. The 9-member band with its dynamite percussion and horn sections will twist you like tornado! Tracks like "HOMMAGE À MBAYE FALL" will take you on a musical journey to the cultural crossroads of Senegal, West Africa's meeting point of European, Latin American and African musical traditions. This real-time, two-microphone recording gives the impression that the group is playing live in front of you, making it hard to believe it dates back 33 years ago! William Bennett - founder and sole constant member of Whitehouse - earned considerable acclaim for his reincarnation last year
as Cut Hands and the release of the album Afro Noise Vol.1. His sophomore full-length in this guise, Black Mamba, is due out
on Susan Lawly in Autumn; to herald its arrival, Blackest Ever Black is releasing it's thunderous title track as a 12" maxi single.

A new series of vinyl and download only releases, "from the archives...". Islands Inbetween was originally released on cassette in 1983 [Touch # T33.2]. 3 tracks, by John Keliehor & Orlando Kimber, have been removed from the cassette edition for copyright reasons. The second in this series, "Drumming for Creation" [Touch # T33.3V] will be released in the autumn...

Indonesians often use the name 'Nusantara', meaning 'the islands in-between', when referring to the archipelago that forms their Republic. This cassette covers only some of the cultural activity on Java and Bali, the best known islands out of the 13,700 counted by statisticians, so it is not intended to be in any way definitive. The selections are more like musical postcards of two cultures balanced between tradition and tourism.

A House Safe For Tigers is the soundtrack to one of the seven TV movies Lee Hazlewood made with the director Torbjörn Axelman during his period living in Sweden in the early 1970s. Hazlewood had moved there to lay low and to help his son avoid the draft, but wound up finding happiness and creative freedom. Many of the albums recorded in Sweden made their way no further than Scandinavia, but of them all, A House Safe For Tigers is the holy grail for collectors, often changing hands for hundreds of dollars.
*Originally only available in Sweden, this marks the first time Tigers has been reissued and available the world over. The movie was a 'semi-documentary' featuring Hazlewood and his friend Axelman, looking back to childhood and contemplating the meaning of life. In it, Hazlewood runs a marathon, tells anecdotes about a bum who cured his stutter and convinces a group of Swedish children to take sides against Richard Nixon. 'It's strange, very strange,' Hazlewood said, 'But we meant it to be strange.

First Word are very excited to present a brand new 7" from Border Crossing. Born out of the melting pot that is Ladbroke Grove, West London with it's unique tradition of merging musical styles, Border Crossing's sound emerged in 2004. Their critically acclaimed debut LP 'Ominous' expressed this diverse range of influences, drawing upon reggae, soul, rock, jazz & hip hop. The second album 'Freedom of Speech' signalled a harder sound with more vocal collaborations, before a venture into the purely instrumental sound of their third release, 'Starlines & Stellagrams' in 2010.

This 12" contains six brandnew remixes from forthcoming Double CD album ALIEN NA FAVELA.

Touki Ba Banjul is a compilation of the Gambian psych sensation Guelewar who played a major part in the development of the Afro Manding sound. From 1979-1982 the band released four albums, featuring some of Gambia's best funk tunes. This official first time ever reissue features the highlights of their career.
Before Guelewar, Laaye N'Gorn, the lead singer of the band, was already one of Gambia's most celebrated artists. He was the centre figure in The Supreme Eagles, with whom he played as the main act in one of Gambia's succesful clubs 'The Bambo No.1 Night Club'. In return for the succes the clubmanager offered them instruments, after which they renamed their band to the Super Alligators. Due to the mixture of western influences such as soul and funk with traditional and regional rhythms like boogaraboo and sawrouba, The Super Alligators had a unique sound. The result of this blend is known as the psychedelic sound of Gambia (Senegal).
In 1973 the Super Alligators decided to rename the group to Guelewar, Wolof's for 'noble warrior'.
