A strong look for Errorsmith, Evol and Peder Mannerfelt heads - Reece Cox debuts a charmingly daft and animated style of syncopated, technoid dance music on iDEAL.
Berlin-based, ofc, Cox generates playfully raving and nutty results from a concept-driven approach on ‘Clang’, which takes its title in tribute to what he describes as; “…a term coined by American Composer, James Tenney to describe a musical unit composed of discreet elements that come together to form a cohesive and singular
sonic event… a sonic cartoon aimed not at as sophisticated sonic experience, but sophisticated perceptual one”.
So yeah it’s less PLUR oneness and perhaps more techgnostically centred on the body, but the results are dead effective and cohesive, lending his own spin to the whole sound designer techno paradigm in standouts like the warped UKF/Soca-house of ‘Clang 2’, and a gnarled sidespin on Errorsmith tekkers with ‘Clang 5’ and ‘Clang 7’ that come spaced out nicely with the lurid cutesiness of ‘Clang 4’ and a dose of Belgian hoover headfloss in ‘Clang 6’.
Call it braindance, hooligan computer music, conceptronica (lol) or whatever you want, it’s just dead good fun if you like this sorta craic.

Japanese sound sculptors Steven Porter (aka Katsunori Sawa and Yuji Kondo) sign two striking productions to Kynant, with a pair of remixes completing the 'Reservoir' EP. 'A Need For Distance' on the A-side is abrasive and hard-hitting but not without moments of melody. Fellow Japanese purveyor of tripped-out techno Iori mines a lean, highly-effective groove on the remix. 'Romance Tip' takes a slower, endlessly-detailed approach with sharp percussion and mindbending atmospherics; Max Durante, who recently released his debut LP on Kynant, contributes a broken-beat workout to finish the record. The second release on Raw Basics is a solo single from Basic Rhythm that brings a summery Techno vibe to your turntable.

The A side opens with a bright lush pad lowly panning from left to right, coupled with a bouncy kick drum and light percussive hits, before unleashing a heavyweight bass line designed to rattle your sub stacks and knock the air out of your chest. Cha is a stepper that draws from, and combines Dancehall and Detroit Techno with a deftness that only Basic Rhythm can bring to the dance floor.

The B side is a more subdued affair, invoking clear blue skies and a warm summer breeze. Opening with a lush chord and muted 4/4 kick drum, the layers of tape hiss obfuscate and add a little lo fi fuzziness, while gradually building layers of percussion in that unique Basic Rhythm style, adding hints of sub bass before finally opening up into a straight stepper around the half way mark, with a solid kick drum and warm bass line that compliments the lush airy chords. This is one for the summer!

London based producer Christian Piers has a decade of production experience and a discography that spans house, techno and drum and bass. He is a long-term friend of 17 Steps, and became the second artist to release on the label after label heads Dusky back in 2015. Acclaimed releases on Curle and with Leon Vynehall as Laszlo Dancehall have sustained Christians' reputation as a truly versatile producer.

With ‘Virus’, his debut LP under this alias, Christian puts himself forward an exceptional and compelling voice in UK techno, drawing on his experience in drum and bass and breaks, a sample heavy hip-hop inspired approach to production and a dubbed out, industrial techno aesthetic.

Opener ‘Extrinsic’ lays the foundations, combining cavernous drones and rattling breaks over submerged kicks, conjuring up images of chasmal warehouses, dusty basements and rattling window frames. Elsewhere delay soaked stabs bounce off combative breaks. A dialogue between Christians’ influences ensues that’s as captivating as it is individual.

Christian creates passages of intense energy without breaking a sweat. Cold atmospheres are navigated with an unhurried authority and confidence that prevents them from becoming desolate. Behind the gritty haze and forceful bassweight Christian hides the playful, agile rhythms that have become his signature – percussive sounds stumble and roll in the background, whip like snares slice through the fog.

‘Virus’ is an exhilarating ride; right up to the final bars of the teasing, anti-climactic dancefloor weapon ‘Resource Depletion’. The infinite rising tones of the closer are a bold and forward looking statement of intent from an artist whose evolution continues to unfold.

Damon Zucconi is a visual artist living and working in Philadelphia. He frequently uses custom software to create his work, and has spent the past decade working as a computer programmer, producing pieces which are typically accessible online. Some of his projects include 'Fata Morgana' a reworking of Google Maps code that hides everything except text elements; a website for the Arca site-specific performance-installation Tormenta; and recent solo exhibitions with Veda in Florence and JTT in New York of physical and digital works. This is Zucconi's debut music release.

Ian Tocor is a smiling ambiance man, into ambient ,deep, dub and techno, half of « Outlander Wax Theory » and « Drnchd » bands, he signed his first vinyl on the American label Love What You Feel in 2014. Played by Fred P, this Ep oscillates between a dub House in lace and a deep and colorful deep house. It has been found on the first compilation of Simple Music Experience with a dreamlike journey called "Blue" or on Label Vastechoses, the latest project built with his friends Sevyce and Lostsoundbytes, adventurous music, intrepid grooves and editions of all kinds are on This platform with evocative name.In short, music is for Ian an outlet, deeply anxious to provoke in various forms links between moving bodies, his dj sets are as rough and strong as they are surrounded by sensitivity.

Our 3rd artist EP comes by way of Jus Nowhere and Jackson Ryland from our nation's capital. Both featured on previous V/A releases, their Foldin' & Rollin' EP packs driven, techno influenced beats with a flair that's all their own.

Taken from a Detroit Underground CD on FAMILIAR RECORDS (FMLR 001) first issued in 1999. Only available direct from DETROIT, USA as part of a very small run of self released CD's. All music is by local Artists. The original FORWARD Album was 10 tracks. We selected our favorites and remastered four tracks for release on the Preservation Sound label in 2020. Do you believe in conincidences

I don't - anymore. I used to believe in conincidences but I've learned that evertyhing happens for a reason. And that everything in life happens for you, not to you.

So, I have been busying myself with the idea of an remix album of classic tracks of mine for quite some time. But I struggled with the selection of tracks and which remix artist to pair with which track. Until certain people entered my life. Some of them I only - met through their music on social media and never in person, others I met briefly, like in a car to a festival and some I started to hang out with and they became real life friends. All of these people connect with my music and I feel drawn to their music and in many ways we insprire each other. As a natural result this remix EP took shape and I am excited to present it to you. The record contains four remixes of tracks from my back catalogue that cover a period of 20 (!) years, from my early days on Bush in the mid 90s to my first label Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten in the 00`s up until now, where I run Electric Ballroom from Berlin. Over the past 20 years French producer Vitalic has worked on redefining the very idea of electro ‘à la française’ by imposing his distinct style (energetic and melodic) with tracks that became cult classics within the club culture.

As soon as his EP ‘’Poney’’ was released in 2001 on Gigolo Records, a label always about scouting new talent and run by famous artist DJ Hell, Vitalic was comfortable with his influences: synthetic, sensual, mutant disco, in the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Cerrone, Lime or Gino Soccio.

Vitalic with his energetic, powerful sound claimed top spot among the electro artists and charts of the time. Belgian brothers 2 Many DJs, experts in blending rock, pop, techno and disco, called all the shots within the dance realm and included the track ‘’La Rock’’ in the ‘’Radio Soulwax’’ compilation. Meanwhile, other star DJs such as Aphex Twin, Richie Hawtin, Erol Alkan, Tiga and Laurent Garnier took every opportunity to play the track in their sets. The Vitalic craze and ‘’metal disco’’ at the time took off and went far beyond the French borders. He was invited to perform live in Spain, Germany, Eastern Europe, Japan, Canada, the USA, and South America. More generally the “Poney’’ EP made a breakthrough on the French Touch scene.

On his 2005’s debut album ‘’Ok Cowboy’’, speedy and rushed electro met brass music, leaping electric guitars, and teary-eyed slow, sad pop songs.

It was the start of a seamless career and a series of 4 studio albums, all different but the same at the core. 2009 witnessed the very effective, dancing release of ‘’Flashmob’’ that, while relating to his debut album, expressed Vitalic’s limitless love for new wave. In 2012 ‘’Rave Age’’ followed. It was a violent, harsh, twitched record that led the EBM movement (taking over the USA years later) and radiated power and conveyed electronic ardor on stage. In 2017 Vitalic pulled out ‘’Voyager,’’ nostalgic of retro-futuristic mood inspired by re-imagined disco ambiances of the ‘70/80s, a record that was largely acclaimed by the press.

While keeping his musical identity, Vitalic worked on reinventing himself with every album.

That is what sets him apart and reveals his true identity: mixing disco, electro sounds, new wave references, EBM, punk rock, rave sounds, power pop with catchy melodies, physical energy, reaching beyond his own idea and vision of disco.

The producer’s strength definitely lies in his ability to constantly renew himself, to explore every possibility and every facet (much like a mirror ball) of ‘’metal disco,’’ or in plain words ‘’fuzzy disco.’’

The record opens with Fall To Ruin where Farrago continues to develop his industrial yet trancey production, delivering high levels of energy to the dance floor. It is with great pleasure that we welcome Victor Ruiz to Electric Ballroom.

Victor Ruiz is on the front line of a new generation of Brazilian producers and DJs. His unique, to the point, modern Techno has won him a huge audience in Brazil and across the globe. Draco and Serpents are two superbly crafted cuts of the finest Techno fresh from his studio in Sao Paulo.

When Joakim aka Cray76 moved back from NYC to Paris in 2019, he knew he wouldn't have access to a studio for a little while. And although he welcomed that forced pause in making music, he felt the need to take at least one piece of gear with him in his suitcase. It was the legendary Roland TB303, one of the simplest and quirkest synth ever made and maybe the one that had the most important influence on electronic music since the mid 80s. Having recorded a few beats on his Roland TR808 before he packed his studio in Brooklyn to be shipped back to France, Joakim decided to make a record only using those 2 machines, an « exercice de style » that is a tribute to 30 years+ of acid house and techno and a way to make tools that he could use in his DJ sets. This is the fourth release on the 6-volume Surgeon reissues label,
SRX.
Originally released on Ideal Trax in 1995, Dynamic Tension EP
established themes that went on to become central concepts to
much of Surgeon's later work. It also marked a refinement of his
sound that lacked none of the intensity of earlier releases.

A few words from Surgeon about the SRX series:
While searching through old DAT tapes I was shocked to find how clear
and dynamic many of my early tracks sounded, not the way I remembered
them from the vinyl releases. Those early tracks, recorded 20 years ago,
were mastered and cut by people who had no understanding of electronic
music. I actually remember cutting a dubplate back then and being asked if
my track was "supposed to sound like that" The engineer was so
disgusted at my music that once the cut started he left the room until it was
finished.

Although some of these releases have been repressed many times over
the years, they have always been from the original plates from those early
cuts; none have ever been re-mastered and recut in their original from. So I
began carefully transferring everything from the original DAT tapes and
working closely with Christoph Grote-Beverborg from Dubplates &
Mastering in Berlin (who's been cutting my all my releases since 1996) to
present this early material as it was originally intended.

Along with the early Downwards releases, I found high-quality unreleased tracks from that time as well as
releases that had only been issued in limited pressings; those too are included in this project. For the
packaging I commissioned Ken Meier and Yoonjai Choi from the New York design firm Common Name to
create some sumptuous sleeve art.

Jannowitz Records' label boss Lars aka BOHO is busy this year. Never in the world would he have thought that after an amazing 2018, the pace he had been going could actually accelerate. But 2019 is already a huge success.

Gigs in many parts of the world and more than huge releases are in the pipeline at the legendary Octopus & Yoshitoshi Recordings. On top of that: constant charting with Jannowitz releases !

This is why BOHO thought now would be the perfect time to release a banger EP he had been working on for several months. As always, BOHO sat down with some friends and produced three peak time hits - just in time for festival season.

Number 1 is beloved Heerhorst who has many releases in his catalogue on prestigious labels such as Octopus, Tronic or Stil vor Talent. He impressed the whole crew at the JAW headquarter with his sound and qualified immediately for working on the main track “Pinkfinger” - a powerful techno track with distorted synths pushing down on you. And there's something to look forward to: You will be hearing more from Heerhorst who joins the family as main artist.

BOHO and Xenia Beliyeva's collaboration “Violet” is something for the groovy dancefloor shaker. Its monotonous vocals sung by the Russian electro goddess fit perfectly to BOHO's bumpy techno side. Because is not only a stellar DJ, but also a great singer. Give it a listen!

Another Jannowitz Records favourite rounds off the three original tracks: Vazik is back. The Mexican power producer has done a lot for the success of our label - and we're more than thankful for that. He finds his way back to the label with a straightforward techno belter “Human”: “You are human. You will die. I will not.” - These super dark robotic vocals will spiral through your head and lead you to a powerful drop that won't be easily forgotten.

Russia, Mexico, Germany - as always a very colourful mix of superstars. But beware of the Italian powerhouse Christian Bonori who joined in to the party and made his very own version of BOHO x Heerhorst's “Pinkfinger”. Just as with Mr. Heerhorst himself, you will be hearing more from Christian Bonori as well. If you haven't checked out his work: do it. We're convinced!

Channel yourself or let yourself get channeled by a minimal techno essence out of Coeter's creative mind. A five minute running techno track made for the floor subtle but with a breakless presence. Advanced Human's Remix intensifies and compresses the sounds. Banger!

Ellora label bosses Hush & Sleep join Joseph Capriati’s Redimension imprint with a melodically charged techno release entitled ‘Angeli E Demoni EP’.

Following on from previous releases on Etruria Beat, Virgo and Kraftek, the Maastricht-based duo Hush & Sleep kick start their year by showcasing their fiery fusion of dark, emotive energy with bounding techno rhythm. Since forming in 2014 the Netherlandic pair garnered early support from Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens and Charlotte de Witte while also playing alongside the likes of Claydrum, Slam, Nicole Moudaber in amongst their local scene and further afield.

'Abaddon' opens with tight kicks, panning strings, rapid hats and a luscious synth break until ‘Haborym’ pulses with moody bass, syncopated plucks, harrowing horns and industrial-sounding cymbals. On the flip, ‘Amorth’ continues the dark direction with cantering melodic lines, evolving pads and rattling percussion before ‘Elohim’ punches in with arpeggiated keys, subtle chords and a euphoric break to close the release.

Jocelyn is next up on the ESHU label with three tracks of deep and smoky techno that mark his solo debut. He is one of the co-founders of the ESHU collective and has contributed collaborative tracks as ESHU, as well as working as J&L (aka Tom Liem and Jocelyn Abell) on Field Records, Deep Sound Channel and this label before now. Opener 'Other Heights' is eight minutes of deeply absorbing dub techno that is stripped back to only the most essential elements but still has a very real presence. A warped, soft edged acid line eventually takes the lead as calming pads stretch out to infinity. 'Maox' is more drum lead, with crisp electro stylings and more mind melting acid lines working you into a trance as the cosmic pads flash things out. Last of all, 'Utan' hits harder but is just as warm and cavernous, with call and response pads and bass leading you off on an intergalactic journey that is cerebral and cinematic. It rounds out a superb EP of immersive techno in fine style.

Melodious tribe kicker, minimal and offering a bit of an electro eaesthetic.

Italian producer and Fine Human Records label head Dino Lenny lands on Crosstown Rebels for the first time this November, bringing his distinct and personal style to the label on the absorbing Doctor, also featuring a remix from Nuiton. The haunting, emotive vocals of Dino impress throughout on Doctor, chugging groove moves alongside waves of dark electronics and panic-struck, devilish synth. Having established herself now firmly within the techno scene as Lady Starlight, she continues to do so on her EP for Figure, presenting a statement of bold and pounding beats. 'Which One of Us is Me' showcases a completely intuitive approach to making music, with every track coming together as a direct stream of creativity, channeled straight into the solely analogue hardware. Electro label A.C.E.W celebrates its tenth release to date since its inception in 1999. Founded by Emilio Urbano, the Roman imprint comes with a very special collaboration between A Credible Eye Witness & his partner in crime Ghost Ride. Essential 'Sync Execute' signs four tracks of pure no-non sense electro madness with the usual quality you could expect from the Italian squadra. Frantic 'Enjoy The Music' kicks things off with metallic hits over pounding beats, slithering woofers and crystal clear synth sounds to make your body move. Let's figure this hypnotic song as a straight uppercut in your face, in particular when robotic lyrics start to chant the title track, and you will know how cash you will pay! Next is 'Dark Science'. Madrid Underground and boutique label Ovnie delivers its 2nd release hiring Techno veteran Dan Piu for a split EP alongside labelhead Pohl.

“Dusky & Piuish” on A1 from Dan Piu is a crooked groover that piles his 27 years old Roland TB 303 bass generously and keeps the swing tight and in combination with warm chords and spacey electronics making it indeed a very Piu‘ish track.

A2 “Depresismatica” dives into deeper and emotionally waters. Piu knows how to create a melancholic atmosphere without losing sight of his dance ocean he created over all the decades being constantly in the studio producing hunderts of tracks.

The B-side belongs to Pohl. “Mello Phone“ is a spacey and freaked out, synth-heavy and filled to the brim with orignal Korg percussion and beats. Musically it is definitively a retro-futurist affair.

B2 “Space in the distance“ is a killer exercise in dark mellow Techno and it clearly underlines Pohl‘s huge talent creating colorful soundscapes.

EMEX is the emergent project of George Apergis who is the owner of Modular Expansion and is based in Athens & Berlin. EMEX "Mimas EP" includes two original tracks "Mimas" a hard kicker with minimal synth-lines, percussive rhythms followed by trippy arpeggios and "Andromeda" a hypnotic, minimal track with deep Berlin influence chords, which progresses into darker territories while the dark strings come. The Tel-Avivian Berlin Based duo TV.OUT are back on Parallax Records with a beautiful 12' and a fresh Florian Kupfer remix.
It strikes right after their album debut on Dark Entries,

What started as a one-off record in 2018 now becomes a steady project. With a second release on the ominous WSNWG imprint Rødhåd keeps building a platform for collaboration tracks that emerged from exchanging ideas and intense hours of working together in the studio.

For the second installment Rødhåd invited Dystopian member Alex.Do to his Berlin studio. The two producers share a long friendship and now release their first EP together. “WSNWG 002“ contains 4 tracks, self-paced mindbenders evoking subtle mood shifts against a somber backdrop. The moment before everything turns dark is set to music here.

The latest transmission from the world of Gunnar Haslam, Kalaatsakia wildly sprawls across the intersections of techno and more abstract sounds to take us on a wideranging journey from the subterranean to the coastal, from blown-out dub tones through fractured rhythms. An incredible work that is not easy to pigeonhole, Kalaatsakia is a full length album that navigates and sketches landscapes where new languages are created from old, dead ones to emerge as the lingua franca of interconnected immersive zones.Haslam is an avid home listener of dub, dancehall and calypso, and that influence is quickly felt as Kalaatsakia launches with a tight electro snap and dubwise crash. Kalaatsakia advances and retreats seasonally, tightening up for the floor with the chrome-plated 'Broadcast' and 'Kjolle' while splintering apart on 'Kalapuyan' and 'nxbound'. Its constituent parts are often left to collapse in on themselves, smearing themes into residual trails. As the narrative of the album disintegrates and unfolds into more deconstructed territory, it stretches out even further with a striking skittering mental tease, settling into burbling sub-audible vocals and resonant spaces that all form a part of Haslam's self-created subconscious language.

Clear White-Coloured Vinyl - Techno don Reinier Zonneveld looks set for a massive hit with his latest track, which reworks the stunning melody made famous by PPK's 1998 smash 'Resurrection'.

Techno don Reinier Zonneveld looks set for a massive hit with his latest track, which reworks the stunning melody made famous by PPK’s 1998 smash ‘Resurrection’.

Zonneveld made his remix of the trance classic to play in his live sets, and it proved to be so popular that he felt it simply had to be released. He and his team set about trying to find the rightsholder of the original melody so that they could license it.

This journey led them not to PPK, but to the original composer: the now 82 year old Russian electronic music pioneer, Edward Artemiev. He wrote the melody for the soundtrack of a 1979 movie called ‘Siberiade’. Zonneveld wrote him a letter asking if he could grant him permission to release his take on the melody. Listening to Reinier’s new interpretation of ‘Resurrection’, Artemiev was immediately sold and approved it to release.

One of the earliest composers to adopt the synthesiser, Artemiev has a pioneering legacy that lives on through this new version that has been so skilfully crafted by Zonneveld.

Moving on to the track itself. Pummeling old skool hardcore techno kicks thump under filtered layers of bubbling synths as an ominous tone is set early on. The melodic elements tease in tense fashion as layers of hissing percussion build on top. Flashes of the distinctive riff are sparingly deployed. Then suddenly the swell comes, rising pads and dramatic synth riffs fuelling the fire as cymbal rides urge us forward. Snare rolls and acidic textures build the tension further before the rug is pulled from under us and we’re thrust into the dream-like sounds of that famous riff.

Sounding as enchanting and otherworldly as ever, these cute interweaving melodic lines soon transport you to another dimension. Filtered kick drums and heavily reverbed pad sounds interplay with percussive builds and rising acid tones, suggesting an explosive drop. Instead, the minimal approach is chosen, stripping the track down to its bare melodic basics and letting the famous hook shine. Further glorious melodic subtleties lift the track again and snare rolls push higher, but the track never reaches for excess and continues to tease throughout.

Drumcode has become a label synonymous with some of the most-cutting edge and forward-thinking techno over the last 20 years. Their artists include both emerging and established names, and one of those well recognised is Enrico Sangiuliano. Now announcing the very first concept album of his career.

iomorph is born. A very special concept album designed to take the listener on a journey of evolution. A musical adaptation describing how biological and technological advances over numerous generations of time have all started from the same first step in our own biological journey.

Divided into 4 parts, Organisms opens with atmospheric tones, gradually blending complex textures and timbres to begin the evolutional process. The beginning of this section combines full sounding arrangements before stripping it all back to basics. From here it dissolves into the atmosphere. Organisms then progresses into a break-beat influenced, down tempo track using synths to add complexity to the straight, broken rhythms.

Galactic, futuristic elements are found in both tracks in Cosmic Forces. Upbeat, groovy, electronic synths resonate, before 'Hidden T' brings the tension to get things pumped up with stratospheric swirls and twirls to lay down one of the most mind meltingly deep drops.

Metamorphosis is mysterious, its opening beat is a deep and piercing tone that sends the listener into a sensory awareness of their surroundings before breaking into a fully charged, techno track, with Enrico's trademark sounds and textures.

All evolution has an ending.

Two Probabilities shows the positive, starting out evocative and emotional, with a gentle harmony, gazing towards a 'New Dawn'. On the other side of the spectrum lies the negative. This is influenced with a rhythm that articulates the beat of death, mathematical, cold and metallic in texture, it shows the unsustainability of its nature, with a hectic, anxious break beat influenced ending.

For the first record of the new decade Outer Zone welcomes Modus’ triumphant return for this second part of his “Triple M” sequence.

Standing in direct contrast to the stasis much of modern life has been held in, this EP offers up an opportunity to vicariously enjoy a world, where the futuristic vistas that techno promised at its genesis seem present. Machinic cycles, looping escapism and understated funk are the axes in which this space is rendered, a space that for a moment allows us some respite from stillness.

Kin-Ben LABEL's latest production definitely comes as a pinnacle of its catalogue. It includes deep, heavy, driven, hypnotic tracks by Unknown Thoughts, who is an unidentified producer, and an exceptional remix by Evigt Morker.

The 4th and final sampler taken from Swedish Silver Vol 2. Patrick Siech then steps up with the next track, 'Kill Room' that also uses atmospheric percussion and stabs to build into a funky drum groove. The final track by Cari Lekebusch called 'Xylopeggiator', conveys a dark, pounding 5 AM rhythm that uses vocal samples and a melodic synth to create a hypnotic drum pattern.

Wata Igarashi's debut release on Omnidisc is exactly what is needed at this moment. Escape from reality with mind altering LFO'd modulated everything. The EP is made up of 3 tough techno cuts balanced out by 'Homecoming', the closing track looking to a more positive future

Long-term Soma collaborator Tony Scott drops his debut album with the label under his Edit Select alias, the perfectly crafted experience, 'Cyclical Undulations'. Having released with Soma under his Percy X moniker for years and having countless hits under his belt, Scott reinvented himself as Edit Select. Known for his dark, expressive and expansive music, Edit Select has become once of the most well respected and renowned artists in the genre. With this latest full length, he continues to explore the furthest reaches of the Deep Techno spectrum.

The Cyclical Undulations journey begins with Insta Grain, a mesmeric odyssey of ebbing pads and sparse percussive elements that seem to drift of into the expanse. A perfect opener before the first foray into more 4x4 territory begins with Above Ground a pulsating affair before Two Step Phase, a more stripped back affair, reminiscent of earlier Percy X works in it's 90s heyday. Undulation, more propulsive in it's approach, melds warping synth hooks alongside spectral tones. Horizon#1 follows in a similar vein yet drift into slightly more hypnotic territory as recurrent tones lead the track. Scott flourishes with yet more machine-throb crafting Close Up & In The Beginning She Was, both stacked with subtle nuances of his stylised percussion lost across dream like states. The later half of the album has a distinct minimalistic approach yet seem to provide maximal output with every beat. Horizon#2 is dark and ominous yet still characterised by a tough percussive element. Contact, produced in collaboration with Claudio PRC, delves into more submerged sounds with heavy sub bass and echoed drums, finishing of with Towards The E; a shuffling broken beat affair with after hours vibes and an endearing ethereal quality.

Cyclical Undulations demonstrates a mature sense of production from Edit Select. An assured collection of material, each track providing a striking insight into a true artistic mind.

BRVTAL has started in 2018 and after several gigs and episodes of the podcasts series at last we arrived to kick off our dream project: the music label!

There was no question who would be on our first release, because we have been following their music since the beginning and we had a banger nights and great times with both of them at LARM and in Budapest. These awesome producers to whom we thank BVR001 are Niki Istrefi and Draugr!

Niki Istrefi is a rare precious star in the Danish techno scene, everyone can recognize his music in the first minute, this mindfulness, fast, harsh and tight sound with the essential melodies of melancholia. Niki is pretty determinant in BRVTAL's life, because we noticed him since his first release and it was obvious that we invited him to our first LARM's event!

Worldspawn gives the first push on his side of the vinyl. This catatonic sound is the enter to the darkness, what we can accept from the whole release. Blood Run is another step, much faster, much harder with an iconic spooky melody that will haunt us through our nightmares.

But we don't have to be afraid of Draugr either, he isn't joking at all. He became one of the unavoidable figures of Parisian techno over the years. It wasn't a surprise how he totally bombed the LARM to the delight of us and our audience in 2019. We fell in love for the first time when we heard XB71. This track is the real taste of Draugr's music, the uncompromising, tough sound with cruel hammering and flooding energy like an atomic bomb. Lastly we get to the final track of the vinyl that is dedicated to us, so the title is Brvtal. It's a great honor for us that this more galloping banger with killer dark melodies has the same name like our label and event series!

After the very successful ABS 004 EP, Ruffneck Prime returns with the second installment of the so-called HEX series on the Absolete imprint.

The vinyl release features 4 tracks all with a different vibe.

The A1 made by Ruffneck Prime & STLTH focuses more on the trance side of the acid techno spectrum with a very hypnotic melody line with a twist here and there.

Ruffneck Prime also remixed one of his own (originally hardcore) tracks made under his DJ Ruffneck moniker. The gabber tune was carefully ported over to a hard techno version!

Then on the B1 side, we find a solid collaboration with Tresor resident Esther Duijn. Deep kicks combined with a raw acid line are keywords for this fine tune.

The B2 side truly shows the more dark side of Ruffneck Prime and his love for broken beats as this tune is dark, grimly, and aimed towards the pits!

"Icons of Destruction" shows Ruffneck Prime's love for artists like Headless horsemen, Ancient Methods and the likes.

All in all once again a VERY solid 12 Inch release!

Stanislav Tolkachev, oft lauded as one of the shining lights of the genre, debuts on Token with his unique take on contemporary Techno. The five track EP, titled There Is No Cure, highlights the producer's infamously idiosyncratic style, showcasing his ability as an artist to draw in disparate moods to his work whilst maintaining a powerful sense of cohesion.

Deconstructed opener Two Treats Right Now, instantly recognisable as Tolkachev's music, sets the tone for the record. A single, curiously disharmonious patch waxes & bends for just under three and a half minutes while off kilter rides and hat patterns are introduced (and occasionally removed) to add to the delicious cacophony, the result being a kind of sonic palette cleanser. Follow up Whole Life Order maintains that sense of reduction and disharmony, but places the listener firmly on the dance floor - heavily saturated, delayed kicks drive the work while a live lead sequence sits atop. To some degree A side closer Delayed Gratification does what it says on the tin, holding the listener in stasis - a perfectly executed bridge piece designed explicitly for DJ use.

If the A side of There Is Now Cure is characterised by a kind of brutish darkness, the B offers a lighter approach to Tolkachev's work. Title track There Is No Cure is nothing short of anthemic. Built around those same components so favoured by the Ukrainian - the driven kick drums and isolated, singular sequences, There Is No Cure is crisp and playful, communicating a palpable sense of hope, all the more compounded by what has come before. About Time, the EP closer, continues these thematic concerns, but appears gentler still in its articulation. Soft but still dense, and beautifully produced, it's a deeply moving piece of music built sparingly that ties up a fantastic first offering for Token.

After Sw. contributed heavily to Kimochi 13, 14, and 15, he's taken a little sabbatical to travel the world - releasing sounds for LOVEiT, R&S sublabel Apollo, Night Defined, Acido, and of course his homebase at SUED. Now, a triumphant return to Kimochi Sound for #44, where Sw. takes the opportunity to really spread his wings. From the instantly catchy UK garage stylings of inCOMPlete to 90s hrdcr supreme to the jazz-inflected percussion workout of rOAch rOAd 0.1 X-LOOSE to the industrial spatial noise exploration of herbperp, this is an auteur who dares you to name the genre.

The Story Itself

On the 12th of April 1961, Yuri Gagarin was launched into orbit for the first and - so they tell us - the last time. Upon returning to Earth, Yuri became a global hero, travelling the world to tell of his adventure.

Secretly, he was plagued by strange hallucinations and a persistent glow around his vision; a cornucopia of colour in a constant corona. In 1964 - following a silent coup by Leonid Brezhnev - Yuri was banned from embarking on further manned missions into space. At first fearing madness, the cosmonaut came to see these apparitions as a signal, an invitation, a welcoming beacon from a distant lighthouse blinking across the cosmic void.

On the 27th of March 1968, aided by trusted friends within the space program, Yuri Gagarin swapped places with another cosmonaut on a secret test flight and was once more blasted into outer space. Knocked unconscious by the extreme velocity of his experimental craft, Yuri awoke a mere 15 minutes later in view not of the rapidly shrinking Earth, but an entirely alien vista; he was elsewhere...

Asa member of the DimensionsDJ Directory three years running, some know Jefferies for his notorious DJ sets—whether he’s playing new wave or booty bass; as Tony Neptune or Yuri; solo or alongside Mark ‘Turbo’ Turner in another peak time marathon b2b, it doesn’t take long for crowds to catch on to his deep knowledge of all things riddled with Hi-Tech Funk and Soul. But this isn’t the only storm he’s cooking up: in his visual work, Jefferies uses oil paint to unveil the surreal and celestial adventures of the original cosmonaut and space pioneer, Yuri Gagarin, capturing every aspect of their dream-like surroundings with an eye devoted to detail and depth.
