“RPG” is composed entirely with one hand. Despite breaking his other arm and being unable to play his synthesizers, Wijnands did not give up and created the EP, showcasing his determination and passion for music.

Wijnands says: “I have been listening to Nintendo soundtracks nonstop while creating this LP, and it really cheered me up when I just broke my arm.”

Besides Retro Video Game Music, “RPG” draws heavily from Japanese environmental, ambient and new age music from the 1980s.

“RPG” showcases Wijnands’ skill as a composer and his ability to create evocative and immersive musical landscapes. The songs have a similar minimalistic aesthetic, where less is more, and the focus is on creating a serene and meditative atmosphere through the use of delicate piano melodies, subtle electronic textures, and synthesizer sound recordings to mimic the sounds of nature.

Despite the challenges Wijnands’ faced during the creation of “RPG,” the LP proves that he is still pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

Wishbone Ash reigned supreme through the 1970s — centered on inspired musicianship, joyful spirit and inventive songs. Their concerts were uplifting and their recorded work sublime. Argus remains a stunning high point in the band's startling repertoire. Argus was a 1972 tour de force, a hard-rocking masterpiece that has gone on to have a huge impact on rock bands moving forward. If you've never heard Argus, you've surely heard music that it inspired.

The British quartet's trademark harmony guitars became a touchstone for many: Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Opeth, and Lynyrd Skynyrd have all acknowledged an Ash influence, and tracks such as Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back in Town," Maiden's "The Trooper," and even Steely Dan's "Reeling in the Years" all have twin-guitar moments that hark back to Argus. But Wishbone Ash were different from the start. They were never strictly a hard rock band; their soaring vocal harmonies and musical grandeur placed them close to progressive rock.

But they weren't strictly prog either: They had no keyboards, no real classical influence and weren't into side-long suites. Their roots were in the blues, and their calling card was twin lead guitars in harmony (played in the original lineup by Ted Turner and Andy Powell). Even the hardest Ash rockers — like "Blowin' Free," the most famous track from Argus — had an ethereal touch. They could rock the big stages, but they did it with subtlety and grace. This is reflected perfectly in the classic album sleeve by prog-associated designers Hipgnosis: The front cover shows a Greek sentry — the "argus" of the title — staring off into the distance. It's a mythic, old-world kind of image until you look closely at the back cover, and see that he's heralding the arrival (or perhaps watching the departure) of a spaceship.

Two worlds colliding. Exactly what the band and album were all about. By the time of Argus, Wishbone Ash were stars in England and cult heroes among Anglophiles in the US. What made Argus a step forward was its flow of moods. The songs don't run together, but there's an emotional connecting thread from the album's somber beginning to its heroic end. The band insisted at the time that lyrics were something of an afterthought: Shortly after its release, main lyricist Martin Turner told NME that he wrote them mainly to fit the mood of the music: "The music that was coming out was very English, very medieval, and the lyrics had to reflect that." Added Powell at the time, "The expression comes out in the guitars. We wouldn't play it if it didn't express something." LP1: Kicking off in magnificent style with signature songs from legendary artists: A #2 in 1976, Queen’s ‘Somebody To Love’ is first up, followed by Electric Light Orchestra with ‘Livin’ Thing’, Fleetwood Mac with ‘Say You Love Me’, and 10cc with ‘I’m Mandy Fly Me’. Dr. Hook had a huge hit with ‘A Little Bit More’, and Chicago hit #1 with their all-time classic ballad ‘If You Leave Me Now’, while the side closes with Eric Carmen’s enduringly popular ‘All By Myself’. Flip the LP over for huge hits from the year – including 4 #1s: 14 years after making their UK chart debut, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons enjoyed their first chart-topper with ‘December 1963 (Oh What a Night)’, whilst Leo Sayer reached #2 in the UK, and #1 in the US with ‘You Make Me Feel Like Dancing’. More pop nuggets follow from Billy Ocean and Dana, before the side finishes with R&J Stone with ‘We Do It’ and the sublime ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’ from Gladys Knight & The Pips. Over on the second side, ‘Silly Love Songs’ gave Wings a UK #2 and became ‘76’s biggest seller in the US and opens a run of great vocalists; Neil Diamond, Daryl Hall & John Oates with ‘She’s Gone’, Paul Simon’s ’50 Ways To Leave Your Lover’ and a trio of the year’s classic rock smashes: ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ from Thin Lizzy, ‘Squeeze Box’ from The Who, and closing with the epic ‘Music’ from John Miles.



LP3: Celebrating ‘76’s dancefloor with a stunning collection of disco and soul gold: First up, Donna Summer with her debut smash ‘Love To Love You Baby’ before ‘More More More’ from Andrea True Connection and Candi Staton’s timeless ‘Young Hearts Run Free’. Melba Moore with ‘This Is It’ comes ahead of Diana Ross with the genre-defining ‘Love Hangover’, and the side is completed with huge floor-fillers from Tavares and Barry White ahead of The Isley Brothers with the soul standard ‘Harvest For The World’ and over on the final side country music is represented with Dolly Parton making her UK singles chart debut with ‘Jolene’ three years after it was a hit in the US, but it was a Dutch band, Pussycat, who hit the top with their country-pop track ‘Mississippi’. Bonnie Tyler made her chart debut with ‘Lost In France’, and ‘Forever And Ever’ gave Demis Roussos a ’76 chart topper, and an easy-listening classic, whilst Guys N Dolls had a second Top 5 hit with their cover of ‘You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me’. The LP ends with a trio of the year’s most beautiful ballads: Gallagher And Lyle with ‘Heart On My Sleeve’, ‘Love And Affection’ the stunning singles chart debut for Joan Armatrading, and finishing with a second peerless single on this collection from Elton John with ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’.

My man delivers a super dope and groovy number from a not so well known jam from the 70's . Just get down and boogie on this. Kurt Adam - one of the new faves of the Hamam camp, delivers a taverna cut in a housey affair. Don't be fooled by the electronics, I drink raki to this any day at the drinkery. Hold me down if u can m gonna dance in euphoria, hear the wolfman roarrr.

Soul Media, led by Jiro Inagaki, played a part in the development of jazz rock in Japan. This work, "Memory Lane" recorded in 1980, was the final work under the same name. Inagaki said about this work, "We tried to create this work while predicting the fate of fusion music" and it is true that the sound is completely different from ordinary fusion. The mellow and emotional "Memory Lane" the stormy and refreshing "I Will Give You Samba" and the groovy and edgy "Take My Hand". The sound that was created with his ally Norio Maeda, which looks , is of an extraordinary level of perfection in the songs, arrangements, and performances. It is a masterpiece that is still vivid and fresh when listened to today.

Mit "I Hope We Can Still Be Friends", seinem Einstand bei Saddle Creek, geht Dean Johnson einen Pakt mit den Hörern ein: Er wird Ihnen seine Wahrheit auf die herzlichste und charmanteste Art und Weise singen, die möglich ist, wenn sie versprechen, unvoreingenommen zu bleiben. Der Titel rührt von der spielerischen Art her, mit der der Singer/Songwriter/Gitarrist aus Seattle mit seinem Livepublikum kommuniziert. Im Mittelpunkt steht der Archetyp des 'Energievampirs', der nervtötende Schwätzer, dem wir alle schon mal begegnet sind, und die Texte sind zugleich intellektuell bissig und unverkennbar urkomisch. Seine zarte Stimme klingt wie der Geist von Roy Orbison oder ein Everly Brothers-Außenseiter.

Im Alter von 50 Jahren gelang Dean mit dem Debüt "Nothing For Me Please" 2023 der Durchbruch. „Rivière Noire“ ist das erste Album von Reginald Omas Mamode IV auf dem Kölner Label Melting Pot Music und sein erstes Solo-Projekt seit 2022.
Reginald Omas Mamode IV ist ein anglo-mauritischer Sänger, Produzent und Multiinstrumentalist. Geboren und aufgewachsen in Großbritannien, pflegt er eine enge Verbindung zur afrikanischen Insel Mauritius, der Heimat seines Vaters. Seine musikalischen Wurzeln reichen von Süd-London bis zu den Maskarenen-Inseln (Réunion, Mauritius und Rodrigues), wo seine Familie einst an den legendären „Electric Sega“-Aufnahmen der 1970er beteiligt war. Musik liegt den Mamodes im Blut: Auch seine Brüder sind als Musiker aktiv.
Reginalds Stil vereint Elemente aus Golden Era Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul, Afro, Funk sowie den traditionellen mauritischen Stilen Sega und Maloya. Ob Nazi-Stress, Liebe oder machtgeile Studie-Punker, die Thematik wird auf den Punkt gebracht und die Kernaussage so oft wiederholt bis der Letzte es versteht. Der Sound von THE COCKHEADS ist zwar schlicht, aber genau das macht ihn gefährlich, er setzt sich fest und lässt nicht mehr locker. Noch Stunden nach dem Konsum wippt man in seinem Takt. “Great Doubt” is the third full length LP by Danish composer Astrid Sonne. Throughout her acclaimed discography, Astrid Sonne has been carefully crafting different moods through electronic and acoustic instrumental endeavours. On “Great Doubt” this skill is refined, now with the distinct addition of the composer's own vocal in front. The tone of each track is unmistakably Sonne’s, structured around contrasts through an impeccable sense of timing. Lyrics on the album are sparse, merely highlighting different scenes or emotional states of being, leaving the music to fill in the blanks. Yet they also form a pattern of ambiguity, consolidated through the album title, searching for answers through looking at how and what you are asking, questions for the world, questions of love. The viola, a trusted companion since Astrid Sonne’s youth, appears effortlessly throughout the album, fully integrated into the sonic universe; through a pizzicato driven arrangement in the poignant track “Almost” or along with booms and claps in mutated cinematic stabs during “Give my all”, paraphrasing Mariah Carey's 1997 ballad. Yet the string section also gives way to explorations of woodwinds, counterbalancing the bowed movements with digital brass and airy flutes. Finally, beats and detuned piano are fresh additions to the soundscape, cementing how Sonne’s practice is always evolving into new territories. In fall 2022, Astrid Sonne relocated from Copenhagen with its peers of artists such as ML Buch, Erika de Casier and Smerz, to live in London, where musicians of the South-East London scene like Coby Sey, Lolina, Still House Plants and Mica Levi provide a new inspirational framework. “Great Doubt” bears witness to both of those geographical locations, yet finds itself in its own unique space, in many ways due to the presence of Sonne's voice throughout. A voice that has always been present in her work, but never fully explored as a solo instrument before now. Astrid Sonne elaborates on the wish to work more in depth with the voice: “I come from a tradition of choir singing where I’ve used my voice as a way of creating unity with other voices. I’ve disciplined my voice in a certain way and this album is an exploration of me trying to find my own voice as an instrument, as a communicator, as a new way of being honest.” Questions take up a central role throughout the album. The doubt is both a blessing and a curse, always lying in-between, acting as both what holds back and drives forward. A metamorphosis not going anywhere. Finally back in print on vinyl and CD after having been unavailable for several years! First released in 2013, Euporie Tide has become the quintessential Causa Sui record over the years. For many fans this 2LP has served as the perfect entry point to the band's multi-faceted oeuvre. And with good reason – from the first notes of ”Homage” to the peaceful closer ”Eternal Flow” the listener is taken on a beatific ride. The band manages to condense an impressive range of influences into these ten tracks. Previous albums were largely centered around lengthy freeform jamming, but on Euporie Tide, this side of the band is carefully dosed to balance concise, almost proggy song structures. Everything fans of the band cherish so much is here in abundance: the fuzzy downtuned desert-rock riffs, the blissed-out, motoric krautrock, the dynamic builds, and the fragments of electric jazz and kosmische that are woven into the compositions.

Euporie Tide was created following collaborative albums with members of Sunburned Hand of the Man (Pewt'r Sessions) and Tortoise (released as Chicago Odense Ensemble), which certainly had a cross-pollinating effect on this set. Rarely does a band from the European stoner rock scene embrace such a wide range of stylistic influences, and twelve years after the album's initial release, Euporie Tide deservedly stands as Causa Sui's crowning achievement.

LA-based composer/arranger E. Lundquist (aka Eric Borders) returns with ‘Art Between Minds’. Having cut his teeth in the LA hip-hop and beats scene and explored realms of cosmic-funk under previous monikers, E. Lundquist’s music displays a rich tapestry of influences including the cinematic & experimental jazz-infused library music that influenced his previous LP ‘Multiple Images’. Now he is back with another ample helping of his hallucinogenic sonics, utilizing a bevy of vintage gear to replicate that warm glow of ’70s jazz-funk. From the Fender Rhodes MKI to the ARP Odyssey, to the Mellotron, the keys and synths he employs on these tracks display a genuine appreciation for the groove-driven music of The ‘Me” Decade.

The album plays like the score to a cult classic B-movie. The sun-drenched haze of “Soliloquy” could easily be what you hear during the calm before the storm in a Blaxploitation flick and the laidback crawl of “Euphoria” seems ripped right out of a fuzzy ‘70s blue movie. But there is a certain sophistication here, like the way the horn section, slinky guitar, and trippy synths combine on “Escape” to sound like liquid one moment and like a summer breeze the next.

While E. Lundquist’s artistry will eventually take him to new plateaus of sound, where he is right now is undoubtedly a high watermark in his career. He has become a torchbearer for jazz-funk in a new jazz revolution, updating the sub-genre with his delicate balance of digital and analog elements that will easily appeal to fans of Kamaal Williams, Surprise Chef, BADBADNOTGOOD, Khurangbin, Robohands and similar.

Gleichzeitig verkündet die britische Formation Einzelheiten ihres ungeduldig erwarteten, vierten Studioalbums „The Clearing”, dessen Release für den 29. August 2025 angekündigt wurde und das weltweit auf ihrem neuen Label Sony Music erscheint.

Alle Songs wurden im Nord-Londoner Stadtteil Seven Sisters geschrieben und im vergangenen Jahr mit Grammy-Gewinner und Hauptproducer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Miley Cyrus, Beyoncé) in Los Angeles aufgenommen.
Mit „The Clearing“ legen Wolf Alice eine maximal selbstbewusste Songsammlung vor, die vor Ehrgeiz, ungewöhnlichen Ideen und Emotion nur so zu strotzen scheint und die eindrucksvoll veranschaulicht, wo sich das UK-Quartett im Jahr 2025 soundtechnisch verortet.

The mighty Ron Sexsmith, will release his wonderful new album Hangover Terrace. Ron is one of Canada"s most accomplished singer-songwriters. He has collaborated with Daniel Lanois, Mitchell Froom, Ane Brun, Tchad Blake, and Bob Rock. His songwriting appears on albums from Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris and Feist. Film-maker Doug Arrowsmith made an acclaimed documentary about Ron in 2010 called "Love Shines". In 2017 Ron published his first book, a fairy tale entitled "Deer Life".

Das zweite Album von Runnner, A Welcome Kind of Weakness, entstand aus einem gleichzeitigen Riss im Körper und im Leben des Songwriters Noah Weinman. Während der Monate, die er im Bett verbrachte, um sich von einem Achillessehnenriss und dem drastischen Umbruch einer Trennung zu erholen, schrieb er die 11 Songs auf diesem Album, die Weinmans stärkste sind und die vermeintliche Verletzlichkeit des Albumtitels bereitwillig aufnimmt. Aber zur gleichen Zeit sind diese Songs die präsentesten von Runnner, trotzig und selbstbewusst, eine Erinnerung an die Entschlossenheit, die aus der anmutigen Unterwerfung entstehen kann. Die Masken wurden straff gezogen. Die Erforschung der surrealen Wahrheiten, die in unseren Herzen schlummern, hat etwas Tiefgründiges, dass das Traurige und Alltägliche so mühelos mit dem Absurden und dem Schönen spielen kann, um etwas Eindringliches, etwas Auffallendes zu schaffen, Lieder, die stechen und aufsteigen und gleichzeitig zum Tanzen auffordern. Aufgenommen in den Jamdek Studios von Doug Malone (mit zusätzliche Aufnahmen von Nick Broste bei Electrical Audio) und produziert in Partnerschaft mit dem langjährigen Verbündeten Angus Andrews (Liars) zwischen Januar und März 2025, ist Animal Hospital ein Meisterwerk von Gansers Handwerk. Songs, die ihr Leben als Notizen begannen, die bereits im Jahr 2020 gekritzelt wurden (mit Ausnahme von ,stripe", einem Demo, das 2021 überarbeitet wurde), wurden hier auf Band geschliffen und in Wachs gepresst. Ganser haben ihren Sound ausgebaut, Mauern errichtet, die sich zu neuen Höhen auftürmen, und Charlie Landsman und Dove Hollis haben sich auf dem Album zusammengetan, um das Fundament zu stützen. Nach zwei Jahren unermüdlichen Tourens und zahlreicher Festivalauftritte kehrt die finnische Melodic-Death-Metal-Band Suotana mit ihrem bislang ambitioniertesten Album zurück: „Ounas II“, dessen Veröffentlichung für den 29. August 2025 geplant ist.

Als epische Fortsetzung von „Ounas I“ aus dem Jahr 2023 hebt dieses Album den charakteristisch frostigen Sound der Band auf ein neues Level und liefert eisige, zugleich mitreißende Melodic-Death-Hymnen, die das Genre neu definieren werden. Nach dem Erfolg ihres letzten Albums begab sich Suotana Anfang 2024 auf eine Asientour mit Kalmah sowie auf eine Europatour mit Finntroll und brachte ihren energiegeladenen, atmosphärischen Sound einem neuen internationalen Publikum näher. Auch bei namhaften Festivals wie Summer Breeze, Ragnarök Festival, Nummirock, Tuska und dem Hellsinki Metal Festival konnte die Band ihren Ruf als ernstzunehmende Größe der Szene weiter festigen. Die Rückkehr ins Studio mündete in einem Werk, das Aggression, Melodie und monumentales Storytelling meisterhaft vereint. Ounas II ist ein eindrucksvolles Zeugnis für Suotanas Weiterentwicklung – epische, frostklirrende Melodic-DeathHymnen mit Einflüssen aus Black und Power Metal. Songs wie „Twilight Stream“ und „Winter Visions“ demonstrieren das gereifte Songwriting und die eiskalte, zugleich elektrisierende Atmosphäre der Band. Das unbestrittene Herzstück des Albums ist jedoch „1473 Ounas“ – eine zehnminütige Melodic-Death-Odyssee mit einem atemberaubenden Gastauftritt von Zoe Marie Federoff-Šmerda (Cradle of Filth). Ihre eindringlichen Gesangslinien verschmelzen nahtlos mit Suotanas Signature-Sound und machen den Song zu einem sofortigen Klassiker.

It’s the first time something like this has happened for months and months; the first glow of an approaching summer, whatever date the calendar is currently saying it is. The whole thing acts as a curative meditation, miraculously wiping away all the greyness of the past few months. Right now, optimism abounds, outlooks change and your daily soundtrack has shifted from spiky and uptight into a kind of cosmic space where songs ebb and flow and drift on like rivers run on forever towards the glimmering sea. Bliss, right?

If you’re reading this, we’re assuming that you’re the kind of person who views summer as a state of mind rather than a good looking day on the BBC Weather app. With that in mind, we reckon you already know all about Heavenly Recordings’ series of untouchable, utterly essential Balearic Breakfast compilations, each one lovingly compiled by visionary DJ, producer and broadcaster Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy - the genius club legend whose radio show of the same name (broadcast 10am to high noon every Tuesday via Mixcloud) began as an escape route from the pandemic before rapidly building a global community of dedicated Balearican listeners.

Each Balearic Breakfast album has provided a spiritual getaway from the greyness of the everyday through a handpicked selection of glorious, psychedelically coloured, expansive music. It doesn’t matter where on the planet the music hails from, or when it was made, it just matters that it fits like a jigsaw piece into the musical whole. Due for release this August, the fourth Balearic Breakfast compilation sees Cosmo take this head trip further than ever before. Students of Decay presents The Dip, a new full-length recording by Berlin-based artist and composer Thomas Ankersmit, marking his debut with the label and sixth album to date. Comprised of two expansive, sidelong pieces composed entirely on the Serge Modular synthesizer, it signals a subtle yet significant shift in Ankersmit’s trajectory, imbuing the hyper-physical, psychoacoustic intensities of his live performances with introspective, atmospheric, and even melodic elements.

Primarily known for a site-responsive approach to sound, often realized in the moment of performance, Ankersmit’s turn toward the studio in the last few years has opened up a new dimension within his practice. It is in this quiet rupture that The Dip emerged, a study in internality and suspended states, rich with cinematic undercurrents and ghostly spatial suggestion. Here, electricity itself feels transfigured – becoming supple, even organic – within an environment shaped entirely by analog signals.

Over the past two decades, Ankersmit has established himself as one of the foremost practitioners of the Serge, the notoriously idiosyncratic and expressive instrument that has remained central to his work. On The Dip, he harnesses its potential not for brute force or disorientation, but for spaciousness, resonance, and lyrical abstraction. Without resorting to additional processing or effects, he draws out tones that feel simultaneously raw and refined, articulated and blurred – intricate structures that seem to breathe and evolve of their own volition.

The result is a kind of auditory hallucination, a “cinema for the ears,” wherein impressions, emotional arcs, and imagined topographies unfold. Each side of The Dip plays like a single gesture unfolding in time – a spatial narrative constructed through vibration, density, and the movement of air.

Canadian singer-songwriter Marissa Burwell creates moments of warm musical tones featuring thick harmonies wrapped around gentle guitars and drums, while other moments showcase cathartic bursts of energetic alternative rock. Burwell"s sophomore album "Before the Hour"s Up" was born from a push and pull from within. The record is titled after the closing track, which explores the hopeless desire for all of life"s issues to be solved by the end of a therapy session. The creation and release of this album echoed this sentiment; there was a hope that by the time it was released, Marissa"s questions would be answered and her feelings resolved. Instead, she is humbled (yet unsurprised) by the reality that no matter how many topics you address in the hour, they do not simply disappear.

"Wao" ist das spontane und traumhafte neue Album von Joseph Shabason, Nicholas Krgovich und dem legendären japanischen Duo Tenniscoats. Subtil welcomes back French producer VENDi for its 29th release, Zndya EP - a three-track collaboration featuring BH2M and T.N.O.

Maxo releases his new album Mars Is Electric. Earlier this week, Maxo released a third haunting video, directed by Vincent Haycock, from the visual world of ‘Mars’ for the title track. Maxo previewed the album with the release of singles “Human?” and “Donahoo’s Chicken” this spring, which arrived with equally raw, inventive, and unnerving music videos.

Mars Is Electric is Maxo’s first official release since he dropped two critically acclaimed albums in 2023 with Even God Has A Sense of Humor and Debbie’s Son. His fifth full-length album finds the Southern Californian artist self-aware and mature. Having lived the last decade of his musical life intentionally creating specific bodies of work rooted in imagery, observation, and capturing moments, Maxo spent this previous year freely creating without a specific plan, relieved from all obligations and restrictions.

“This is the first time that I really didn’t care, I didn’t approach things so seriously,” the artist shrugs off, meaning that without expectations or specific goals, his creativity flourished. This opening finds the artist having conversations he’s been avoiding, having lived silently in the pain of those topics for the past few years. Exploring uncomfortable themes about personal life, relationships, and family fractures, life before and after the loss of innocence, and an abundance of existential spirals.

The exploration was not only thematic but also musical in nature. During the creation process, Maxo was immersed in a wide array of music from past to present - France Joli, $amaad, Steve Spacek, Cherelle, DJ Quik, Lisha G - influences that seeped their way into these songs. The album opens in a loose, dreamlike state—experimental and searching, mirroring the emotional fog of someone looking for something real to hold onto. But as it progresses, so does Maxo’s energy as he fiercely rides and weaves on songs with a contagious confidence, producing some of his most kinetic and lyrically impressive music to date.

As the work and vision coalesced into a body of work, Maxo found that he was unlocking a creative language with his collaborators that felt wholly new - a new understanding of why and how he was making art for this world. What emerged from this year-long process was a new musical journey and a future where Maxo refuses to be another bad example of what could be, refusing to mind the blueprint set down. Julius Asal bringt anlässlich des 150. Geburtstags von Maurice Ravel Werke des französischen Komponisten in einen lebendigen Dialog mit eigenen Improvisationen. SIENA TAPES vereint Ravels „Jeux d’eau“,
„Prélude in a-Moll“, „Menuet sur le nom de Haydn“ und „À la manière de Borodine“ mit Asals „Prélude

After their first LP, in 1987, Pedro gathered his usual band, Carlos Sousa on keyboard, Bulimundo on drums, Nuno Santos and Zézé on lead and rhythm guitars, Augusto Rasta on bass, Daló on sax and finally Dalú on percussions, for yet another project, one that carried both their names: Jacinta Sanches - Pedro Ramos. Eight days, no more, that’s all Pedro Ramos and Jacinta Sanches needed inside the Estúdios Musicorde. The process was natural, as with all their music, memories recollected and arranged by Pedro on café napkins, rehearsed and perfected at home with Jacinta. Together they imagined music where Cape Verdean saudade could dance together with Kingston’s skank, two island hearts beating inside European concrete.

His name is Pedro Correia Ramos Varela, born in Praia, Santiago, Cabo Verde on April 6th 1954; her name is Jacinta Lopes Veiga Varela, born in Cidade Velha, Santiago, Cabo Verde on January 22nd 1959. The two met in Praia, where a few exchanged words turned into long evening conversations; conversations into friendship; friendship into love; and love into six wonderful children. After the independence of Cabo Verde, they got married in 1978 and moved to Portugal, where Pedro started working as a welder for Lisnave and playing the guitar in a band in Ramada. Trading shipyard sparks by day for the after-hours pulse of Cova da Moura, his love for music proved harder than steel. And in 1982, after seeing Bob Marley and Peter Tosh in Rotterdam, he opened his own Dancing Bar just below their house, a pioneering space for the promotion of reggae music in Portugal.

Their Dancing Bar kept its doors open from 1982 to 1994, seeing the release of two albums and more singles. To this day, Pedro and Jacinta are still making music, one the inspiration of the other. They define themselves as simple people, living happy without prejudice, friends with the world.

Released exclusively in Germany in March 1966, "Black Monk Time" by The Monks has become a cult classic -praised as a groundbreaking forerunner to punk and krautrock. Though the album was overlooked at the time, its bold sound and sharp lyrics have earned it lasting influence and critical acclaim. The Monks were five American G.I.s stationed near Heidelberg, West Germany. Originally performing as a typical beat group under the name the 5 Torquays, they evolved into something far more radical. After discovering guitar feedback by accident and embracing a raw, percussive approach, they caught the attention of two German ad men-Walther Niemann and Karl Remy-who became their managers and helped reinvent their identity. Dressed in monks' robes with tonsured hair and noose neckties, the band developed a confrontational, rhythm heavy sound. Nowhere is this clearer than in the album's opening track, 'Monk Time,' which captures their entire aesthetic in under three minutes. A pounding, repetitive groove of bass and drums anchors the track, layered with distorted guitar bursts, percussive electric banjo, chaotic organ stabs, and unrestrained, shouted vocals. It's a declaration of intent-urgent, jarring, and unforgettable. Their sole studio album, produced by Jimmy Bowien and recorded in Cologne in late 1965, defied musical norms. From the explosive opener 'Monk Time' to the fierce 'Complication,' "Black Monk Time" rejected flower power for something more urgent-anger, humor, and innovation. At the time, Polydor Records deemed the music too radical for American audiences, delaying its U.S. release. Despite its initial commercial failure, the album is now seen as a pivotal moment in rock history-loud, strange, and unapologetically ahead of its time. The Monks' story is as unlikely as their sound: five ex-soldiers and two ad executives creating one of the most daring records of the '60s. The band never sparked the revolution they hinted at, but decades later, "Black Monk Time" still resonates. This is your chance to experience the album that dared to be different - don't miss it.
